It's just... odd to me, I suppose, going from "what is in my pants is completely irrelevant to most anybody else's life" to the expectation that you must be completely open, essentially, about what is in your pants.
I think a lot of people understand the general idea of why it's bad decorum to demand people offer explanations for private information like this, but they don't analyze exactly why it's bad besides, "asking directly is just rude" and not "asking in any way still enforces the often violent nature of gender and sex, and putting people in the 'right box' is a part of that violence."
It's especially odd when seeing other trans people enforcing the idea that "what's in your pants?" is a genuine, good-faith basis for interacting with others.

i've slowly been dipping back into writing my comic lockstep after losing interest during the pandemic. here's a lil redesign of the mc, li :)
some folks may remember this character from like. 2019 and prior before tlou eclipsed everything but many things have changed abt them, the biggest being they're not a cis guy but a nb butch dyke now lol
here are the concepts from when i first lesbofied them last year, oldest to newest, with me rethinking how i was approaching the character:

I know we are begging for scraps and the context is not…quite the same but I cannot express how fucking cool it is that Gen V has a bigender character and that that word has been said multiple times aloud.
For those who don’t watch, Gen V is a spinoff from The Boys, one of those big-critiques-on-superheroes shows. It’s set in an American college and the characters are very heavy metaphors for a bunch of the pressures pushed on that demographic: football/legacy athletes, grooming young adults for specific industries, parents who have kids with the intent of them being a cash cow for them, eating disorders, self harm, kids from rough backgrounds being exploited as a sob story or pushed to be a weapon. It comes with like a million potentially triggering situations and a wild amount of gore so look into the warnings more, but I would really recommend the show.
On the show one of the characters has a few different powers, and one of them is the ability to gender-swap and is then played by two different actors. They most frequently go by they/them, the show refers to them a few times as bigender, and while it could be another time we grasp for straws in characters like robots or aliens or what have you, the show actually does get into bigender-related issues!
It deals with parental expectations, it deals with the struggle of expressing attraction and wondering which side of you the person wants (because it can’t be both, can it?), and it goes into an unexpected territory of: if the switch was a choice, does that still make it authentic?
I’ve heard so much about how being gay or queer or trans isn’t a choice for people, and that’s fine if it isn’t, but the assumption that everyone feels that way reinforces the idea we are prisoners to our identity and given the choice we would not choose to be this way. But I would. Many would.
They do.
I’ve joked for a long time about how trans folks love shapeshifter powers, but this is the first I’ve ever seen shapeshifting as a plot device BE about queerness, not as a distant headcanon by fans, or even a quiet ‘yeah it can be queer if you want it to be’ by creators, but as a textual actual bigender character.
That kicks ass!

hey yall
wesley/viagra here
since kosa on twt is kinda dead as hell rn ive decided to come to tumblr for the time being (still follow my twt for updates and reminders @/zesty_wesley_)
i have this to say:
STOP THIS MADNESS
IT WILL NOT STOP AT MINORS OR AMERICA
IT WILL EFFECT ADULTS AND QUITE LITERALLY THE ENTIRE INTERNET ACROSS THE WORLD
IF KOSA GOES INTO EFFECT WE CAN ALSO BE 1000% SURE TRUMP WILL WIN AND P2025 WILL TAKE HOLD
DO NOT STOP FIGHTING UNTIL KOSA IS GONE FOR GOOD
tags are to boost it across everything
i want the word to spread like wild fire in a dry field of wheat
and above all else
DO
NOT
PANIC
panicking will make matters worse for all of us and will only cause mass hysteria
calmly and firmly stand your ground so they listen

As someone who found the word for how they knew they felt inside since they were a tiny kid, but had their identity immediately denied and outright refused when coming out (the first time, because let’s be real, you don’t get to just do it once)—
Jordan’s relationship with their parents, and consequently, the very real fear they hold on whether or not they have the permission to be who they want to be (who they know they are) and still be loved by the person/people they care about???
Let’s just say it hits very close to home!
“I’m not a boy. Not all the time.” & “I’ve never changed. I’ve always just been me.” will always get my emotions going!!!
Because it’s just that.
And that nagging paranoia that comes with not knowing if you’ll be accepted as you are when the way you express your gender or navigate it isn’t the norm is so suffocating.
Especially when you get to know the person and you can’t genuinely shrug off their potential response because you care about what they think.
Anyway, it’s genuinely amazing that it’s a topic of conversation that’s being brought to the forefront in such a mainstream way when it’s a lot of people’s reality. Not just mine. (While also throwing in dumb shit at the end to not let it stay too serious because we’re still in The Boys’ universe after all)

Jordan's Gender Expression
I like how Jordan's feminine form exhibits the more stereotypically masculine traits like aggression, snarkiness, and stoicism, whereas their masculine form exhibit the more stereotypically feminine ones like emotion and vulnerability. It really shows how fluid gender is as a concept.

I've been watching the newest episode of Gen V (Episode 5) and at around the middle where Marie and Emma are talking about Jordan I started wondering what pronouns they use for them in the German version (my native language, but I prefer to watch movies and such in their original language) cause German is a horribly gendered language so I go back and rewatch the part in German and!! they're using the neopronouns dey/dem/deren which a lot of non-binary people in Germany started using as a German version of the gender neutral English pronouns they/them and!!!! my little non-binary heart can't take this, maybe we'll actually have accepted gender neutral pronouns in German one day!!!! this is such an important first step and it makes me so happy, omg I love this show :')

People in this fandom will really look at The Fool, Patience, Lacey, Carson, Sedric, Hest, Davvie, Lecter, Kennit, Ash/Spark, and yes, even Fitz himself, and still have the gall to call it queer bait.
These characters are explicitly queer, their actions impact the narrative, they are well written, and their identities are treated with respect. That is the best possible queer representation you could ask for in any story.
I've seen people on tumblr basing the likelihood of if they read this series on whether or not it's "actually gay" and I'm here to tell you that it is. There are queer characters. There are queer protagonists. And no matter what you see people in the fandom say, Robin Hobb wrote some amazing queer representation in a genre that rarely sees it at all.
EDIT: and I think it's pertinent to note that, no, characters who are questioning or struggling with their feelings about sexuality instead of knowing 100% does not make something queer bait or "less gay"
TLDR;
Queer bait = disrespectful marketing ploy that exploits queer audiences
Queer bait ≠ "my two favorite characters never have sex"

Being Ace: An Anthology of Queer, Trans, Femme, and Disabled Stories of Asexual Love and Connection edited by Madeline Dyer
goodreads
Tumblr media
From a wheelchair user racing to save her kidnapped girlfriend and a little mermaid who loves her sisters more than suitors, to a slayer whose virgin blood keeps attracting monsters, the stories of this anthology are anything but conventional. Whether adventuring through space, outsmarting a vengeful water spirit, or surviving haunted cemeteries, no two aces are the same in these 14 unique works that highlight asexual romance, aromantic love, and identities across the asexual spectrum.
Mod opinion: I haven't read this anthology yet, but I'm very excited for when I get around to it.
