Listen. Listen. Listen.
Stanny has always worn dresses and skirts. There is no in between. But after she moves in with the Toziers, all she wants to wear is shorts. It starts with stealing Riche’s shorts (an obnoxious pair of dad shorts). Slowly they start to find their style, how the fabric feels against her legs, how it will stick to her thighs.
When Bill see Stan in a tan pair of shorts( ofc tan old man shorts), bills got gay panic.
Standing with her jaw wide open, face flushed.
Mike says she’s gonna catch flies if bill doesn’t shut her mouth.

The losers club parents:
*trigger warning use of homophobic words*
*their parents have all noticed their children have been missing together for hours. They start looking in all the spots the kids hang out.*
Mrs and Mr Uris calling out together, their voices echoing together out near the barrens: STAN!! STANLEY!
Mrs Denbrough freaking out and hyper ventilating: We cant lose another child Zack! I can't lose another baby!
Mr Denbrough tries to console her but it feels like empty words: We'll find him. He'll be alright. Its not like Georgie he's with his friends.
Mr and Mrs Hanlon yell out together next: MIKE!!
Sonia Kaspbrak: Your children are never going near Eddie again! You hear me!
Mr and Mrs Hanlon call out again: MIKE!
Maggie Tozier is unfortunately stuck near Sonia, her husband up ahead with Ms Hanscom so they both could call out for Richie and Ben together. The parents have spread out in a big circle near the woods of the barrens. Each calling out their childrens names hoping they'll hear it. Maggie was unfortunately left to deal with Sonia( who they were surprised that the hypochondriac actually agreed to look with them)
Maggie tries to be nice and puts a comforting hand on Sonia's shoulder: Sonia it will be alright. Well find them. It's not any of the boys fault.
Sonia slaps the women's hand away and goes on a horrible tirade: NO! My Eddie Bear is delicate. He should have never run off with any of these boys! Especially your son!
Maggie is finally pissed off(and protective): What do you mean by that?!
Sonia with a cruel smile on her face: You know what your son is like. The whole town knows what a dirty boy he is. But I will not have that little faggot infecting my son with his disgusting feelings!
Maggie slaps the woman hard across her face. Red is in her vision. Her long nails leave scratches along her fat cheek.
Wentworth, goes to stop his wife from full on beating the shit out of Eddies bitch of a mother: Maggie!
Maggie: Our children are missing and all you care about is saying hurtful things about my son! I don't give a shit if my son is gay or both our kids have feelings for each other! As long as they're happy!
Maggie is about to jump on the vile woman but her husband picks her up. She's still tries to kick and hit at Sonia (unknowingly, she looks a lot like her son in that moment).
Maggie: You are a vile woman and your son deserves better. FRANK WOULD HATE YOU, especially for what your doing to your son.
Sonia: YOU BITCH! You take that back!
Sonia is held back by Mr and Mrs Denbrough.
Maggie: Why its not like I'm lying, Frank if he was alive right now would take Eddie away from you and never look back! And it be within his right! Your suffocating your son!
Sonia screams in anger: I'm protecting him! Its because of all your kids!
The two mothers keep fighting. Which causes the other parents to come closer and try to help. Unknowingly their children are at the top of the cliff of the barrens hearing everything.
All 7 of the losers peak their heads over the cliff to watch everything. Like little animals popping their heads out of hidding.
Eddie and Richie both stare at each other in shock.
Bill: W-we need to get down there. I-I can't believe t-the-y ww-were looking for us.
Richie: Do we have to, I'm actually finding it really cool how badass my mom is being right now.
Bill: R-richie! What about Eddie?!
Eddie with a bit of satisfaction for himself: Give it a few more minutes. Mrs Tozier just tackled my mom into the mud.
The losers all look back to see the fight.
Eddie to Richie: Your mom is so cool.
Richie with stars in his eyes: 🤩 I know right.
Richie without thinking moves fully out of hiding to cheer his mom on: GO MOM!
Maggie who finally hears her son, looks up to see the kids on the cliff: RICHIE?!
The other losers: Richie! How are we suppose to explain this to them?!
*This being the fact that they just finished fighting an evil space clown*
Richie: Oops.
Maggie dropping Sonia Kaspbrak back into the mud, yells back up to her son: RICHARD WENTWORTH TOZIER! Get your ass down here now! You know how worried we have all been!
Richie nervous now: Ooooh full name not good.

Something Wicked This Way Comes
Tumblr media
Special thanks to @ice-mint for creating the art for this fic and working with me on this adventure! ❤️
Warnings: Swearing, Angst
Here’s a teaser at my submission for the HOTD Big Bang:
Jace raised his hands defensively, “No, I mean, I think we’re reading him wrong. Daeron talked about this thing, Hanlon’s Razor.”
Baela’s brow quirked, “Which says?”
“Never attribute to malice which is adequately explained by stupidity. Something he learned in college.”
Baela scoffed, “Does he think his brother is stupid?”
Jace shook his head slowly, “I think, thanks to Daeron’s therapy session,” Baela chuckled and Jace gave her a knowing look, “-that we are all still kids, trying to navigate young adulthood, college, life… and we have shadows of a past that was heavily influenced by our parents looming over us. I don’t think we are all reading each other correctly; we are all attributing to malice where the true cause of strife is stupidity.”
Baela closed her eyes and scoffed, “That’s too smart of a sentence for you Jace Velaryon.”
Jace laughed quietly, “Yeah, no, that was a plagiarization of Daeron Targaryen’s words. But still, I think he’s right. I think we are holding on to things that happened in our past when we were dumb kids and now, we are dumb adults thinking that for some reason, our actions as children, heavily influenced by our parent’s own disconnect, define who we are now.”
Baela furrowed her brows, studying Jace, “And who are we now?”
Coming to @hotd-bigbang in November ‘23!

I HATE THIS ADAPTATION WHY DO ALL THESE ADAPTATIONS DO MY CHILDREN SO FUCKING DIRTY!!!!
MIKE HANLON DESERVES BETTER
And besides that, I just have so many other questions??
The Losers are barely friends in this. They spend the whole summer either apart or constantly being traumatized! What about the dam? What about the smoke lodge? What about the kids going to see the movies together? What about playing army guys? What about the Ritual of Chüd? Why is Ben the historian--why is that role taken from Mike, the only black kid in the cast? The Black Spot's clientele was almost exclusively black people? Why is that not something Mike gets to share with the audience? Why did they kill Mike's parents? His dad was one of like... the two decent adults in there. Why did they make Ben so cowardly? He was fat, but he was brave. WHERE IS SILVER??? Why did Eddie find out about his placebos from some rando teenager instead of Mr. Keene? Why would he believe her? Mr. Keene was an adult he trusted, that's what makes it such a big deal when he gets told. Why didn't they let her have her moment using the silver slugs and the slingshot? Bill wasn't coping well with Georgie's death in the book but at least he admitted Georgie was gone. The fact that he did and his parents didn't was a huge part of the strain on their relationship. Why is he in denial here?
Just... This is terrible. The 1990 miniseries abridged some stuff, and when I found out how long this one was, I thought great! This one can go into more detail about this stuff! APPARENTLY NOT THOUGH. Like I get why they couldn't include just how fucked up Patrick Hocksetter was (do the fans on here know how fucked up Patrick was? do they have any idea?) and the Ending of the summer of '67 for obvious reasons, but just.... I can't tell if I'm autism-mad because Stephen King's works have been a special interest for just shy of 20 years and they changed something, or if other, more normal fans of his stuff are this upset too.
WAIT IS RICHIE SERIOUSLY CHEWING BILL OUT HERE????? NO NO NO I HATE THIS
I'm just so mad about Mike though. He was one of the major characters and he's barely even there.

Librarygate addition from the time-unrelated side
Tumblr media
Richie's joking. But I'm not.
We know that the Duffers are huge Stephen King fans.
There are three significant library arcs in Stephen King's works which I can remember (add if you can, please): the novella "The Library Policeman" (1990, one of the FOUR HOUR STRIKES (the third) in "FOUR past midnight" collection); and two belong to "It": Mike Hanlon was a librarian, but also Ben Hanscom has a big arc with the Derry Library.
I will start with Ben (he is a part of our love triangle parallel after all). Ben's ties to the Derry Library are shown both in miniseries and in recent movies, but to know the full story you of course need to read the book. I've read it two times and the last one was about 15 years ago, so forgive me for any wrong memories (pun intended).
1.. Ben loved the Derry Library. Not only because he was lonely and it was a place he could spend time. He liked to learn, he had good relationship with the librarian. But most of all he liked the bridge part between the two library buildings (idk how to call it in English, that part joins the children library and the grown'ups one with well-lit warm hall with glass sides and roof, probably?). When Ben grew up, he built a building based on that hall and got an architect award for it. He liked the hall because you could use it to go from one library to another even in the winter and be warm and dry and look at all the cold and snow outside. It is probably a metaphor for that tween period of life King loves so much that most of his kid characters end up being eaten by monsters about 11-12.
Ben had bad things happen to him there as well. I don't really remember the accident with the boy and easter eggs in the book, but Ben was really scared of that photograph and the story of Kitcheners' blow up and killing a hundred of kids. Also when he was staying late helping the librarian one winter night, he saw Pennywise on the ice when Ben was crossing the river by the bridge. Yeah, that same bridge Adrian Mellon was thrown from years after Ben's encounter.
But also Ben wrote that poem about Beverly's hair in the library :)
2.. Mike Hanlon. Mike was a fellow loser to Ben. He was interested in Derry history as a kid and figured out that awful things happen in Derry every 27 years for centuries. He grew up and became a librarian in Derry Library. He was the one with his memories intact and called all the Losers when It came back 27 years later.
3.. Library Policeman. It is a hard story. I've read it when I was a kid myself, maybe 12, 13? Years later I remembered the chill and re-read it. It was still years from now so yeah, I'll do what I can with Wikipedia not helping much.
The protagonist of the novella is Sam. When Sam was a child, he was r*ped in the bushes outside of his hometown library by a man who called himself the Library Policeman who punish children who don't return their books on time. At another place, where grown-up Sam lives, he needs some books from the local library for the first time since his childhood. He accidentaly destroys the books after he uses them and then supernatural stuff start to happen. The entity calling itself the Library Policeman is terrorizing him, and the old librarian who gave him the books is long dead. That woman was not human. It is a monster who is feeding on childrens' fear.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Sam, his friend with whom he falls in love with, and a former lover of the librarian are on the mission to defeat the monster, who wants a NEW HOST to attach itself to, like a parasite. The former lover DIES while helping Sam and his friend, the monster manages to attach itself to the friend's neck and Sam saves her by pulling it off of HER NECK and throwing it under the wheels of upcoming train where it is smashed out of existence. It is a heartbreaking moment: he makes her to look forward and recite a poem or count, I don't remember, while standing behind her he lifts her hair and sees this thing on her neck (which causes some personality changes in her or just a headache I don't remember sorry), and he takes it off when the train is almost there and throws... This monster was compared to a spider too (the flesh form of It was a spider). I like the idea that it is a soteria in Will's neck, but I'm afraid it can be a part of the Mind Flayer.
So we have Hopper and Joyce go into the Upside Down through the Lab gate to find Will. S01 was heavily influenced by Alien and the Duffers don't just do an homage, they use easter eggs and parallels in the plot.
The first thing Hopper finds in the UD (the first thing Ben Hanscom had found in the sewers… was an orange Pennywise pom-pom when he was a child and red Audra Denbrough's purse as an adult) is a busted-out-of egg which is of course an egg a facehugger is grown in.
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
Who was born from that egg in the Stranger Things is unclear. Could be a demogorgon. Dragons lay eggs btw.
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
Then Joyce and Hopper inspect the Castle Byers remnants, go to Byers' house where amazed Jonathan recognizes his mother in the lights and Joyce hear him calling her gently. It is irrelevant here but fascinating. Then they follow the trace of blood into the Hawkins Public Library.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
There is some kind of lair. It is similar to both the egg lair in the Alien and in the Aliens.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
The difference is that in Aliens Momma is still around. Also we have cocooned corpses in the Aliens too:
Tumblr media
Stranger things s01e08:
Tumblr media Tumblr media
It's all of course from the Aliens and It: Hopper and Joyce parallel the couple from Aliens who found the ship with the eggs, the death of the father points to Hopper's future death.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Joyce finds Will like Ripley finds Newt in the lair, cocooned:
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Bill Denbrough finds his wife Audra in the lair, cocooned.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
But whose lair is it?!
Vecna had his lair in his old house, where he was being charged in a dock like an electronic toy...
Flesh form of It (the Spider) layed eggs in its lair which Losers destroyed (sadly, not on screen in both the miniseries and the movies) by stepping on them.
Alien Queen layed eggs in its lair which Ripley destroyed (by fire!)
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Who lays those eggs (we saw one) in the UD? Whose lair is in the library???
And just what else I have on the place: Will was FOUND in the library on Nov 12th, but the sign says (Vote here) Nov. 6th when he was taken walked willingly disappeared. So can library be a part of his dissapearance too? Or even in the first place.
Dragons steal princesses and keep them in their lairs too...
Tumblr media Tumblr media
King's prototype of It was a troll from a fairytale, who lives under the bridge and eats children. Do trolls eat princesses? I'm not that familiar with foreign folklore...
And the last but not least:
Team Tigers vs team Falcons:
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
(the shots of the library with pigeons and then pigeons were followed by shots of Joyce in her car arriving at Melvalds s01e02)
Many noticed the stalker shots and Vecna's parallels to birds.
Birds were absolutely the spies in the Duma Key by Stephen King.

This is for Reddie Week Day 6, Post-Apocalypse. There are two chapters available!
The Day the Strings Broke
IT has an eternal cycle. Spinning around and around like the Earth. Some say the Earth is carried on the back of a turtle. The cycle of IT and the turtle are interconnected, spinning around and around like a game of tag played by children. There was just one problem. The turtle was growing tired. He had been playing this game since the beginning of the beginning, and it was becoming hard to keep IT bound and contained. IT was supposed to feed and then sleep, but IT was growing restless. IT didn't want to stay asleep. IT wasn't satisfied anymore.
There were seven brave children. The turtle watched over them. These children were special. They were destined to end the turtle's suffering. To finally help him rest. IT noticed this too.
There was a battle between the seven children and IT. The children felt they were victorious, and they were, for a time. IT returned to its hibernation, and the turtle was able to briefly rest.
IT did everything in its power to keep the seven children away. Fame, fortune, forgetting. IT could sense the children were in the way of its growing power. They had to go. And they did. For a while.
One child remained, brave and lonely and waiting. IT couldn't break him. IT couldn't tempt him away and sever him from his memories and his friends. The lighthouse keeper. He laid in waiting for IT to return. He sacrificed his life to keep a promise to his closest friends. Whether they remembered his name or not.
Then, the lighthouse keeper made a call. His wait was over. IT was feeding again for the first time in twenty seven years. If the lighthouse keeper hadn't stayed, there would have been no chance to stop IT at all.
The lighthouse keeper called his friends and one by one like light switches being switched, they remembered and they knew what they had to do.
Seven children became six, one of them thinking the only solution was to remove himself from the board. Those remaining children made their way back home to join their lighthouse keeper. The loss was felt like shockwaves, one by one through each of the six remaining children, but the friends were determined to avenge the seventh child.
The mythic battle was fierce. Six children fighting against evil itself. Mere humans that were filled with responsibility that couldn't fit in their small bodies, but the turtle was tired. The strings holding IT in its prison had grown thin. Though they were but mortal children as far as the turtle was concerned, they were all he had left. They were the last soldiers left on the front lines against something they couldn't even comprehend.
It should have been obvious the cards were so stacked against them, that they held none at all. They just had empty hands at the mercy of a full deck, and it knew it.
The battle was fought valiantly. The children were incredible. They proved that humans were capable of more than they seemed. It just wasn't enough.
As the story goes,
The compass. The child that always knew the way. He held the secrets needed to save them all, but IT knew this too. IT refused to let that happen. Staring directly at ITs true form was too much for a human mind. It would become scrambled, paralyzed. The compass always instinctively knew the way, but that wasn't enough to avoid the deadlights. He was taken hostage in the deadlights, his knowledge with him, and the other children fell, one by one.
The turtle had nothing left. The strings became as thin as dental floss, fraying and fraying until..
the strings broke.
No Children
Richie Tozier grew up in Derry Maine. He didn't remember anything about growing up until he got the call. Mike Hanlon, one of his best friends apparently, called to tell him IT was back.
Memories hit him like a truck speeding on the interstate. Richie was living in sunny Los Angeles, California as a successful comedian. Things seemed great, but he was never really happy and could never put his finger on why. When his memories hit him, he suddenly understood. There was so much missing from his heart like a hole was drilled into it and no amount of drugs and money could fill it. It was missing his summer memories, his friends, his proof of being strong.
Also, there was a boy. Freckles engulfing a small body, a shrill voice ready to lecture anyone in his path, bandaids in his stupid fanny pack ready to patch up Richie if he were ever to get in a scrape. And he did. Richie Tozier was known for his scrapes. He was always doing stupid and reckless things, falling from his bike after trying to do something impressive, his big mouth provoking bullies that he was too weak to defend himself against, but no matter what he did, little Eddie Kaspbrak was there. Sometimes, Richie was even reckless on purpose. How else was he supposed to get the undivided attention of that angry freckled boy? The cutest boy in the world. He couldn't just ask. He couldn't give the game away. Everyone would have hated him if they knew the truth.
It didn't matter anymore. The world was unrecognizable. This wasn't the world that young, closeted Richie lived in, but it also wasn't the world sad oblivious comedian Richie "Trashmouth" Tozier lived in. This was something entirely new and somehow worse. So much worse. Hiding his sexuality was no longer his biggest burden in life. He had even bigger problems to worry about. Love seemed insignificant. Afterall, little Eddie Kaspbrak was gone.
At first, they thought he'd come back. Beverly was freed from the deadlights as a child.  It seemed likely Eddie would snap out of it too. He didn't. It could have been that Pennywise was more powerful now. They'd lost. Maybe the deadlights were potent enough to scramble the mind entirely. It was possible Eddie was braindead. There were no more hospitals to check for sure.
Then, they thought it was just Derry. Pennywise had always been confined to Derry before, but something was different. The losers initially fled Derry. They went back to LA. It was nearly as far from Derry they could get, still in the United States. Bill and Richie both lived there and Bev and Mike had no desire to go back home. Ben was happy to be along for the ride, and Eddie? Eddie had no choice in the matter. His mouth stayed open, drying. His eyes were completely white. Richie was able to close his eyes, the way people closed the eyes of dead people on TV. So, his eyes were protected from the air, but his mouth wouldn't stay closed, it just hung limply open like the mouth of a fresh corpse.
It was fine in LA, at first. They stayed at Richie's place, sleeping in the living room on the floor like it was a slumber party. Ben and Bev shared sweet kisses under the covers, and Richie pretended he didn't notice. Mike always beat Bill at foosball as if he'd been training for it his entire life, and as far as they knew, he had. They didn't know each other anymore, and yet, they still were a part of each other. For twenty-seven years, they missed each other like phantom limbs. Now, at least one of those limbs had been cut off and one was limp and frozen, dragging on the ground behind them.
Richie spent his time with Eddie. In the beginning, they were all so confident he'd snap out of it. Richie took care of Eddie with such care while they waited for him to be okay again. He'd bathe him, dress him in his old clothes, brush his hair. The other losers watched him do it in a sad way. In a way that made Richie feel like his skin was transparent, and his thoughts were written underneath.
Oh course, there was Eddie's wife, but none of them knew how to get ahold of her, besides, they had no idea how they'd explain what was wrong with Eddie. They thought they'd wait until he was conscious to bring her into the picture. That day never came.
Unbeknownst to any of them, that was when the first of the eggs started hatching. Then, it was only a week after that before the news broadcasts started. Nationwide child abductions were spreading like a plague. Of course, they were centered in mostly Derry, Maine. When they left Derry, it was a black hole. A ghost town. Pennywise had exploded in power in an instant and it was like the town was sinking back into the Earth. They had no choice but to leave, to regroup. They had no way of knowing Pennywise wasn't satisfied feasting on the children of Derry, Maine anymore.
Children went missing, people reported symptoms of mass hysteria, the symptoms were primarily hallucinations, but there were also the people that were becoming frozen, eyes white, mouth slack. Things escalated exponentially in the matter of days. Something was different. It was like Pennywise could be everywhere at once. People constantly reported hallucinations of their worst fears appearing before their eyes. He wasn't hiding anymore. Whatever bound Pennywise to Derry was gone. IT was free.
Now, there are no longer news broadcasts. It seemed the world came to the terrifying realization all at once. It wasn't mass hysteria or hallucinations. It was real. Their worst nightmares were real. The streets were littered with bodies. Many people took their own lives to end the constant fear. One thing was obvious among those left, including the bodies in the streets, there were no children.

Since Billy is compared to him so often for very shallow reasons (including by the Duffers, who don’t seem to understand who this character is…) I do feel the need to say the following…
Henry Bowers is still a complex character, even though he’s done terrible, evil things. He was never a one-dimensional villain, and you can see the layers to his depravity in the book IT. This ties into over-arching themes of systemic hate and fear within a conservative town that does nothing to protect children and Henry was one of those children not protected from his father’s hate or ideology.
Henry Bowers' racist targeting of Mike Hanlon is not random. It stems from systemic racism in Derry, which is explicitly taught to Henry by his abusive cop father who had once been complicit in racist violence against Hanlon’s family. Henry not only carries his father’s beliefs without apology, but he pairs it with the violence addiction that we can see in young gang members and child soldiers.
Henry Bowers isn’t just what happens when you abuse children, nor expose them to violence. It is the combination of these things with indoctrination into a hateful ideology. The power of that combination for destruction is what draws IT to him, and IT itself represents the destructive forces of the universe. Henry has no reason not to be drawn to that power in return. He is addicted to it.
It’s what makes him a compelling villain, despite being someone you probably would not want to meet in real life. The things he has said and done from the time he’s first introduced until his end are bone chilling. His hate is palpable. He is a mirror of what we see from the radical right wing in America, and it’s really helpful to see a character like that and understand them as such.
Even so, Henry's story is still tragic because no child should ever be raised to hate. There are so many real stories of children who were raised by neo nazis who end up killing their parents, because that ideology is often paired with abuse. It takes a lot of effort to unlearn something you've been groomed to believe, but it's possible with the right supports. Henry is what happens when that doesn't happen.
I don't think the truth of Henry's story is really reflected in Billy's story. They could have done so if they wanted to push the racist narrative, but they didn't actually do that.

My brain won't stop thinking about the Losers' Club as YouTubers, and I know this has probably been done before, but this is my take on the AU.
Starting with Mike Hanlon!
Mike's YouTube channel is called CuriousChronicles where he does video essays discussing history, urban legends, and conspiracy theories.
He started his channel when he was 15 years old, he's currently in his late teens and now has 3.62 million subscribers and he continues to gain more.
The first video he uploaded was titled: "Children of the Corn- The horrors of Gatlin, Nebraska." He uploded it on September 15 2010. It currently has 60,000 views and 55,000 likes
His most popular video uploaded was "The Mystery of the Overlook Hotel" It was uploaded on June 30 2013 and it has over 700,000 views and over 636,000 likes
People like his content because he does in depth research. Sometimes he would have information that you won't even get online.
His fandom is mostly chill, and he encourages online discussions but will quickly shut down any disruptive behavior.
Since he mostly discusses dark topics on his channel, he occasionally does light-hearted videos as a sort of palate cleanser. He would read those two-sentence horror stories from Reddit but the really, really bad ones. And he would often collab with his friends during these videos.
Mike: *reading* and that's when I saw the worm man. A man made of worms
Stan: it was nice of them to clarify what a worm man was.
Mike: cause we were confused for a second there.
Ben: *snorts* worm man.
Mike: a man made of worms
Mike lives with Stan and Bill before they move out to live with their girlfriends but they still live close to each other.
Mike would often be featured in the videos and vlogs of his friends.
This group would often make videos together that the fans see them as a unit.
Every Halloween, Mike would do a special video where he travels to different places that are considered to be haunted. He'd interview the locals there and visit the place if it's allowed
As an April Fools prank he did a livestream in a library saying he's gonna read a book. Except he didn't read it out loud so it was a two hour long livestream of him just reading a book. It got tons of views and comments.

A federal judge has blocked much of Indiana's ban on gender-affirming care for minors
June 16, 202311:28 PM ET By The Associated Press
INDIANAPOLIS — A federal judge issued an order Friday stopping an Indiana ban on puberty blockers and hormones for transgender minors from taking effect as scheduled July 1.
The American Civil Liberties Union of Indiana sought the temporary injunction in its legal challenge of the Republican-backed law, which was enacted this spring amid a national push by GOP-led legislatures to curb LGBTQ+ rights.
The order from U.S. District Court Judge James Patrick Hanlon will allow the law's prohibition on gender-affirming surgeries to take effect. Hanlon's order also blocks provisions that would prohibit Indiana doctors from communicating with out-of-state doctors about gender-affirming care for their patients younger than 18.
The ACLU filed the lawsuit within hours after Republican Gov. Eric Holcomb signed the bill April 5. The challenge, on behalf of four youths undergoing transgender treatments and an Indiana doctor who provides such care, argued the ban would violate the U.S. Constitution's equal protection guarantees and trampled upon the rights of parents to decide medical treatment for their children.
Indiana's Republican-dominated Legislature approved the ban after contentious hearings that primarily featured testimony from vocal opponents, with many arguing the gender-affirming care lessened the risk of depression and suicide among transgender youth.
Indiana's Republican-dominated Legislature approved the ban after contentious hearings that primarily featured testimony from vocal opponents, with many arguing the gender-affirming care lessened the risk of depression and suicide among young people diagnosed with "gender dysphoria,″ or distress caused when gender identity doesn't match a person's assigned sex.
Hanlon, who was appointed by former President Donald Trump, wrote that he was blocking the law from taking effect because its opponents had demonstrated potential irreparable harm to those undergoing treatment and shown "some likelihood of success" in arguments that it was unconstitutional.
The ACLU had provided "evidence of risks to minors' health and wellbeing from gender dysphoria if those treatments can no longer be provided to minors — prolonging of their dysphoria, and causing additional distress and health risks, such as depression, posttraumatic stress disorder, and suicidality," Hanlon said. "While the State has identified legitimate reasons for regulation in this area, the designated evidence does not demonstrate, at least at this stage, that the extent of its regulation was closely tailored to uphold those interests."
ACLU leaders hailed the ruling as a victory in the fight "to defend the right of all trans people to be their authentic selves, free from discrimination."
"We won't rest until this unconstitutional law is struck down for good," Ken Falk, the ACLU of Indiana's legal director, said in a statement.
At least 20 GOP-led states have now enacted laws restricting or banning such medical treatments for transgender minors after Missouri's governor signed that state's bill into law last week. Lawsuits have been filed in several states against transgender treatment bans. Federal judges have also blocked enforcement of laws in Alabama and Arkansas, and Oklahoma has agreed to not enforce its ban while opponents seek a temporary court order blocking it.
Indiana bill sponsor Republican Rep. Joanna King of Middlebury said as the ban was debated that it would "protect our children from irreversible, harmful, life-altering procedures."
Republican state Attorney General Todd Rokita's office said in a statement it was disappointed in the decision but that "we will continue to fight for the children." The statement said the ruling "recognizes that the State has shown there are good reasons for regulating gender transition procedures for minors."
The office didn't say whether it would attempt to appeal the injunction before July 1. Provisions of the law that were blocked gave trans youth taking medication to transition until Dec. 31 to stop.
A top attorney for the state told Hanlon during a court hearing on Wednesday that risks from gender-affirming treatments during puberty such as future fertility, bone strength, brain development and possible reversibility had not been adequately studied by scientists.
Such factors make it within the Legislature's authority to decide "we don't want our children to be part of this grand experiment," Indiana Solicitor General Thomas Fisher said.
Though guidelines from leading authorities on gender-affirming medical care already say surgery generally should be reserved for adults, with exceptions for older teens who meet certain criteria, the Indiana law calls for an immediate ban gender-affirming surgeries.
The provisions of the law banning gender-affirming surgeries for minors in Indiana will have no immediate impact. Hanlon wrote in his ruling that no medical providers in the state perform those procedures on people younger than 18.
Representatives from Indiana University Health Riley Children's Hospital, the state's sole hospital-based gender health program, told legislators earlier this year that for patients who are minors, doctors do not perform genital surgeries or provide those surgery referrals. IU Health was not involved in the ACLU's lawsuit.

The losers club parents:
Maturin the turtle: Your children are destined to defeat a great evil. My little brother.
The losers club parents(just the good ones, and semi still good ones): * flabbergasted, shocked 🤯*
Maggie Tozier (angry and protective) pushing her way to the front to yell at the big turtle: What do you mean our children?! They're twelve! They haven't even gone through puberty yet!
Maturin the Turtle: I am sorry.
Jessica Hanlon (angry and protective too) coming stand next to Maggie: Why does it have to be our children? Can't anyone else do this?!
Maturin the Turtle: Your children are the only really good decent people in town( everone else sucks). Together they are unstoppable.
The losers club parents oddly proud of that fact, because honestly true, their kids are great: awww 🥺🥰
Andrea Uris: Your saying the fate of the Derry lies in the hands of our twelve year olds.
The losers club parents all together have flashbacks of all the shenanigans their children have gotten together. Especially Richies parents.
Wentworth Tozier starts laughing that turns to crying.
Maturin the Turtle: I have a lot of fate in them.
