Oh Natasha/Andrei brainrot we’re really in it now, aka Natasha/Andrei playlist annotations!
Honestly the age gap is so inherently uncomfortable it’s difficult for me to really ship this but I think in terms of the REALLY low bar of W&P marriages/almost-marriages, it’s one of the better ones because they at least mutually care about each other. It’s also just devastating on principle!
There are several distinct sections of song on here, this is one of the few I’ve actually put in a significant order, so I’m going to break it down into that.
Part 1: Initial Meeting/Falling In Love The First Time/General
Absolutely Smitten - dodie
“She wants to dance around the room, kiss you until her lips turn blue”
This song really reminds me of their first meeting when they’re both like 👀 at each other. I like how it captures the excitement but also nerves of the girl, which I feel like is an important feature of Natasha’s part of the relationship.
Helpless - Philippa Soo
“Tryin' to catch your eye from the side of the ballroom”
Sorry to all the ex-Hamilton stans I jumpscared with this, but it’s about the Philippa Soo Singing About Falling In Love vibe. Also the quoted lyric reminds me of their iconic dance scene, or at least the bits leading up to that.
To Noise Making (Sing) - Hozier
“Honey, the look of it was as sweet as the sound; Your head tilt back, your funny mouth to the clouds”
This reminds me of the scene where she sings for him and he’s like WAAAAAAAHHHHHHHHHHHH im in love! I paraphrase, but you get the idea.
Golden Years - David Bowie
“Look at that sky, life's begun”
This is objectively the stupidest song on here. It’s here because I think it’s funny to imagine the iconic Natasha/Andrei dance just being the Golden Years dance from A Knight’s Tale, HOWEVER the quoted lyric is in fact Andreicore.

“And I know we got places to go, we got people to see/Think we both oughta put 'em on hold”
‘Wren there are several songs that are on this playlist AND your Andrei/Pierre playlist’ Thank you for noticing it’s because if Tolstoy can recycle the same lines of dialogue for these relationships I can recycle the same songs! This song is just. I Hate Everyone Except You :) which is deeply Andrei @ both of them. But also like wanting life to stop so you can just hang out with Your People.
Strawberry Blond - Mitski
“I love everybody because I love you”
I’m pretty sure someone once pointed out how this lyric fit Andrei/Natasha once in a post and I cannot for the life of me remember who but that made an impression on me. Mystery person, thanks <3 Also I forgot this was a Mitski song??
The Anchor - Bastille
“Bring me some hope by wandering into my mind”
One of Thee things about their relationship that sticks out to me is how Natasha is so lifelike and her very existence gives Andrei hope for the world. It’s so. It’s so much!
Something After All - Starry
“You’ve turned my world around”
Like I said above, falling in love with Natasha really changes Andrei’s entire worldview! I also think “I've spent years building up walls” is very Andrei, and Natasha kind of brought them down, like what happens in the song.
Cosmic Love - Florence + The Machine
“A falling star fell from your heart and landed in my eyes”
IT’S ABOUT THE SPACE METAPHORS FOR LOVE. THIS IS NO ONE ELSE FROM GREAT COMET’S FAULT.
Cold Cold Man - Saint Motel
“I know I am a cold cold man: quite slow to pay you compliments or public displayed affections”
It’s about being generally not very emotional or expressive but being devoted to the person anyway...very Andrei-ish.
Ophelia - The Lumineers
“I don't feel nothing at all and you can't feel nothing small”
The quoted lyric just seems like a really good summary of their dynamic, but I also think “Heaven help a fool who falls in love” works well for bitter post-elopement vibes, so this song was difficult to place.

This song is VERY much Andrei about Anatole. “Now you're with this asshole, you expect me to believe it's going to last” really works because her relationship with Anatole was never going to last, whether or not she knew that. And “I'm not so much afraid of being alone, just kind of feel I've had enough/And time and time again, time reminds me you'll never be my own/We'll never have a house to decorate, a place that we can call our home” as an Andrei thing makes me very sad!!!
Ruins - First Aid Kit
“Ruins, all the things we built assured that they would last”
I think you can safely say their relationship was in ruins after the elopement attempt. I also think “I lost you, didn't I? First I think I lost myself” is something Natasha would think about the whole scenario
Half of My Heart - John Mayer
“Half of my heart's got the right mind to tell you that I can't keep loving you with half of my heart”
I think this is supposed to be more of an “I don’t love you anymore and that’s on me” song, but I like to mentally frame it in the context of Andrei after the elopement refusing to take back Natasha. I also think all the bits about the singer’s love interest changing the singer’s outlook on life before really fits, like “Lonely was the song I sang 'til the day you came, showing me another way”
Love Like Ghosts - Lord Huron
“You don't want me baby please don't lie/Oh but if you're leaving, I gotta know why”
It’s all about the singer being haunted by a love that doesn’t necessarily reciprocate on the same level, and I think that really fits Andrei’s mindset. It breaks my heart to think about him trying to figure out what he did wrong, why he wasn’t enough for Natasha, and so that quoted lyric really makes me just. :(
Cold Day In Heaven - Delta Rae
“Keep thinking bout when we started, so innocent/Your heart was a mess and I was lost in it”
This whole song is so good for them, it’s essentially just a couple being disappointed that their relationship didn’t work out well. The quoted lyric is so. AAAAHHH. because both of their hearts were messes but for different reasons, Andrei was so hopeless and bleak but Natasha was so naive and not ready for it and it’s so. It’s so Much. Also “We watched, the stars fell, and oh you know we let them/We said it’ll never happen, we said it’ll never happen to us/But it’s a cold day in heaven my love” gets me because 1) star/sky references :( and 2) Natasha especially did say it’d never happen to them, she was adamant that she’d love Andrei forever and that uh. I think we all know how well that worked out!

Someone You Loved - Lewis Capaldi
“I let my guard down and then you pulled the rug”
This is kind of a generic betrayal/breakup/I-miss-you song, but I think it works. Especially with “I kinda liked the way you numbed all the pain” and the focus on the singer’s lover getting them through difficult times and then abandoning them.
The Night We Met - Lord Huron
“Take me back to the night we met”
I think people are legally obligated to have this song on any playlist for a couple that doesn’t end well. It’s generic but it’s good! The entire Strange Trails album my BELOVED!
Careless Whisper - George Michael
“I should have known better than to cheat a friend and waste a chance that I'd been given, so I'm never gonna dance again the way I danced with you”
UNIRONICALLY THIS SONG. I think it’s the focus on dancing as like a significant marker of the relationship for me, especially given how heavily adaptations focus on their dance at that ball. The quoted lyric reminds me of Natasha’s mindset after all of this. Also “We could have been so good together, we could have lived this dance forever, but now, who's gonna dance with me? Please stay” reminds me of Natasha asking him to forgive her. Not to actually get sad over Careless Whisper but. :,(
With Or Without You - U2
“And you give yourself away”
The quoted lyric is in reference to the elopement in my head, and “I can’t live with or without you” is like. Andrei can’t continue on and let her back into his life, he admits that he can’t forgive her, but he also has no real will to live after she betrays him and goes off to die in war.
Atlantis - Seafret
“We've built this town on shaky ground”
“This town” is in reference to their relationship, and I like the acknowledgment that there was never a great foundation to begin with. And “maybe I’m not built for love” as an Andrei lyric is a little heartbreaking! Other than that it’s just a Breakup Song.
I Don’t Wanna See You Cryin’ Anymore - Adam Melchor
“I don't wanna be the reason you can't trust me like before/My head's in my hands as I'm shaking on the bathroom floor”
This reminds me of Natasha’s deep guilt over her betrayal of Andrei. The implication that Andrei would ever let anyone see him cry is a bit much for me, just ignore that HFJAHDHSH
Part 4: Reconciling While Andrei ✨Dies✨
Fake It - Bastille
“We can never go back, we can only do our best to recreate”
This whole is song is about trying to move forward from bad things in the past with your lover which is the whole vibe! But I also think it shows some reluctance on the part of the singer to forget, and a bit of a desperation to be able to leave the mistakes in the past. “Help me turn a blind eye” really captures that. I like this as the early stages of them reconnecting, because I think it’s realistic to have Andrei especially be wary but wanting it to get better.
Bad Blood - Bastille
“All this bad blood here, won’t you let it dry?”
Letting go of a grudge and trying to move on vibes!
Let It All Go - Birdy, Alvaro Soler
“We’re strong enough to let it go”
All their hurt surrounding the elopement is the Thing they’re letting go of in this case.
Flaws - Bastille
“You have always worn your flaws upon your sleeve and I have always buried them deep beneath the ground”
The quoted lyric just feels like their general dynamic to me. Natasha is so open about everything and does indeed wear her heart on her sleeve whereas Andrei represses every emotion he’s ever felt. I think this is a post-elopement song because of “Dig them up; let’s finish what we started”. That feels like them reexamining their relationship and what went wrong and trying again.
Moscow - Autoheart
“All I need’s a fraction of your happy heart”
This song is so 🥺. “We both know what we’ve got to do: head back to where the magic grew” reminds me of them accepting their reconnection and moving on and trying to rekindle whatever was between them. And “Let’s get a dog, an Irish red setter, it’s all we need to get better” feels emblematic of them looking forward to domestic happiness as the solution. And the quoted lyric screams Andrei about Natasha.
The Heart Is A Muscle - Gang of Youths
“I will look at love as more than just an instrument of pain”
Not to be off topic but this whole album is so good every single song makes me feel SHRIMP EMOTIONS god. Also the whole thing is very Andreicore and I had to stop myself from adding every song to his playlist. But I digress. This song is all about having been hurt by love in the past (“I let bad love betray me once”) but deciding to open your heart again which is very them! “I haven't had enough and I wanna love someone” AAAAHHHH. “I am human now and terrified, but want it all the same” Mr. GangOfYouths im going INSANE! “I just ask you to be patient if you’ll have me still” HELLO? Not to quote the whole song but “I wanna be loved, I wanna be whole again, so tuck my hair behind my ears and touch my soul again” as an Andrei/Natasha lyric...I need to sit down. Can you all tell this song makes me go all kinds of crazy. And this isn’t even my favorite song off the album!
Shrike - Hozier
“I couldn’t utter my love when it counted, ah but I’m flying like a bird to you now”
This song feels very “we tried to have a relationship a while ago and it didn’t work out that well but I still love you we could try again” to me which fits this time very well!
Part 5: Andrei Goes Splat :( [And The Aftermath]
Work Song - Hozier
“No grave can hold my body down, I’ll crawl home to her”
I can’t say what it is exactly, but something about persistent love framed around the death motif works for me here.
Dancing After Death - Matt Maeson
“As the sun waits to eclipse and the taste teases my lips, I'm too tired to wrestle with it”
The quoted lyric reminds me of Andrei giving up and shutting down when he realizes he’s gonna die :( oh ALSO my brain always mentally fills in “and no one else” after the “you and I” that ends the chorus which does NOT help with my depression!
One Last Time - Jaymes Young
“Could I feel your skin on mine before I have to say goodbye?”
SCREAMS SO LOUDLY. The whole song is like. Someone dying and wanting to see their person one last time and AAAAAAAAAAA. I am a little incoherent maybe. “I'm leavin' this cold world of mine, no pleadin' is gonna turn back time” really Gets Me in the context of Andrei accepting his own death and withdrawing and it’s so. Anyway.
Oblivion - Bastille
“When oblivion is calling out your name, you always take it further than I ever can”
I don’t think this is exactly what the song is talking about, but the quoted lyric in the context of Andrei dying and Natasha watching him fade and withdraw...good Lord. I need emotional support.
Haunt - Bastille
“I’ll come back to haunt you/Memories will taunt you”
Natasha being haunted by the memory of Andrei!!! Help me!!!! Also “I will try to love you/It’s not like I’m above you” as a callback to Andrei’s feelings for Natasha when they start to reconnect is so mental illness inducing. OOOH and “Questioning why as you look to the sky that is cloudless up above our heads and thoughts come to mind that our short little lives haven't left the path that they will tread” any lyric ever about looking at the sky is Andrei’s now.
Without You - for KING & COUNTRY
“What do you do when you don't get better/Strong arms get too, get too weak to hold her”

HSMTMTS 1x02 Review
The Read-Through was a great ep that surpassed the already high bar set by the premiere. Let’s dig in!
I had read about it in reviews but wow that Ashlyn and Nini duet was amazing. Julia Lester has a very powerful voice. It really was a wise decision for to show to film the kids singing live as much as possible
‘Wondering’ the song really highlights that although the show knows how to poke fun at itself and the movies, it is a deeply earnest show. It’s hilarious that Miss Jenn decides that the drama teacher of all characters needs a power ballad and of course Ms. Darbus herself was never a very important character in the movies but rather than play the whole situation for laughs they actually deliver a really moving song that gives a lot of depth to the role of Ms. Darbus in the musical and ties in beautifully with Nini’s conflicting feelings regarding Ricky
I’m pleasantly surprised at how they’re already giving Ashlyn some depth. I wasn’t sure if I’d like her that much based off of the little we knew of her before the show premiered but she really brings a lot to the table. I’m very glad they’re not going the cliche route of EJ is embarrassed to be seen publicly with his weird cousin. I like the little touches we get with her like her wearing her grandma’s glasses and her over exuberance at the read through. I’m curious to learn more about her and EJ’s families because although they’re cousins they are very different people
A really strong ep for Ricky and one that sure’s to please Nicky shippers. Dousing himself in cologne because he thinks the ‘pheromones’ in it will please Nini was such a teen boy thing to do (and loved the brand name throb). It’s good that Nini called him out for not taking the musical very seriously, for having auditioned just so he could be close to her, and for not being able to commit to things. He really needed that wake up call and it led to some good character growth when he buckles down and learns the choreography which was a funny scene and it reminded me of Phil Dunphy doing the same thing on Modern Family
Strong work by both Joshua Bassett and the writers with the glimpses we get of Ricky’s home life. It was a sad but realistic detail when Ricky didn’t want Big Red over because of how tense things have been at home. And I liked that Mr. Bowen sat down and watched Ricky practice rather than just going back to bed or berating him. I’m sure Ricky’s mom isn’t trying to hurt Ricky by staying in Chicago but just ghosting her family like this is only delaying the inevitable conversation she’’s going to need to have with her husband and Ricky
So far the show is doing a good job of balancing angst and drama and romantic moments for Nicky. Nini was clearly impressed by seeing Ricky performing the choreography in the library and she then avoided EJ on her way out. She definitely had a bit of a moment when she made eye contact with Ricky during Wondering and again she avoided telling EJ what was up. Kourtney bluntly asked her if she really wanted to be with EJ and Nini’s answer didn’t sound all that convincing. I don’t blame her for being torn, she and Ricky had gone out for a while and it was only a little more than 6 weeks ago in universe that she told Ricky she loved him
The show took a big step towards making Nini’s choice easier by somewhat villainizing EJ. I’m glad that Ashlyn correctly called him out for being scary and for pointing out that he doesn’t own Nini. Him saying that he wanted to stay with Nini because she made him a better person right after asking Ashlyn to steal her phone so he could read her messages sure was something
It’s true that as Ashlyn said EJ is being paranoid but as the old saying goes, just because you’re paranoid doesn’t mean that they’re not out to get you. Ricky really is trying to win Nini back and breakup her and EJ and Nini really does still have some level of feelings for Ricky. That of course doesn’t justify his bad actions but the motivation for his jealousy and insecurity are there. And we also get an important line from Ashlyn about how EJ could stand to not always get what he wants. He clearly expected to win the lead and be with Nini for a long time only to have Ricky waltz in at the last moment and pull out the rug from under him
In a way I’m glad that they’re starting to unravel NJ now because that will ultimately make things less messy when the show starts guiding Nicky back together. As I’ve said before, love triangles usually devolve into someone cheating on their significant other in some fashion and the less emotional cheating we get on this show the better imo
Miss Jenn continues to be a G rated April Rhodes and I’m here for it. It’s wildly inappropriate for her to basically nudge Nini and Ricky back together because it will help the show and she believes in their chemistry but it’s exactly the kind of stuff she needs to be doing in her role as an agent of chaos. Her going hard with the solo during the read through and making such a big deal out of Gabriella’s 2006 phone was too funny. We got another phone call with her mom about money problems, we’ll see what comes of it.
Gina made a big splash this ep. I liked that her plot involved convincing Ricky to stay as an indirect way to get Nini out of the way, that was clever of her. We get a little glimpse of how being a transfer student and her desire to make a place for herself colours her actions and we get to see how observant she is. She went full on villain at the end though when she took Nini’s phone and put it in EJ’s bag. Gina has no way of knowing if there actually is anything on Nini’s phone regarding her and Ricky but she’s clearly picked up on the spark that’s still there between them. EJ would be a fool to work with her because they are not in fact after the same thing; EJ wants to be the Troy to Nini’s Gabriella but Gina wants to be Gabriella in place of Nini and I doubt she cares who plays Troy. Those are mutually exclusive goals right there
Good ep for Big Red as well, his cult line was funny and his awful readings of the stage directions was hilarious. He continues to be a steadfast friend for Ricky, they’ve got a good bromance going on
A pretty funny ep all around, lots of great lines. I think my favourite is the exchange between Miss Jenn and EJ where she said he was lurking and he says he was going for loitering
Not quite sure what to make of Carlos thinking that Ricky was going to assault him in the library. I did like the start of a possible friendship we see between him and Ricky. Seb gets some lines and we learn he’s a piano playing farm boy with milking glasses and he’s a sophomore like Carlos. It will be interesting to see when they start something with Seblos and how far that relationship will go this season. Seb is in all 10 eps this season if Joe Serafini’s imdb is accurate which puts him above all the other guest stars
It wasn’t romantic of course but just seeing a bunch of guys holding hands with guys and girls holding hands with girls really shows how much further HSMTMTS will be able to go than Andi Mack was. There’s just no way a mass hand holding scene like this would ever have been allowed to happen on Andi Mack. And the casual way Nini referred to one of her moms sending her fortune cookie sayings in a regular ep instead of one of the two or three designated textual gay eps per season that Andi Mack was allowed was refreshing
I really liked the skate park and shooting at an actual high school continues to pay off for the show
Looking Ahead:
It’s looks like most of the clips we’ve seen on various trailers came from the first two eps so we’re in largely uncharted waters going forward. Hopefully someone uploads the next ep promo
We know EJ has an apology song coming up so he likely gets caught sooner rather than later and I wonder if Gina gets exposed with him or if her breakdown scene we saw in the promo relates to something else

1. Do you remember the episode/scene/chapter that you first started shipping 6?
Oh man...that was soooooo long ago. I played Twilight Princess for the first time when I was about 12 I think, so Midna x Link is the oldest ship on here. But I think I started shipping it after the first third of the game when Midna tries to protect you and nearly sacrifices her life because of it. You get this section where you have to sprint back for help as a wolf with her on your back in the rain as she’s dying and “Midna’s Lament” plays in the back and it was the first time I really felt myself get so worried for a video game character. And after that, she’s a lot more caring towards Link and you can see them grow closer and closer as the game progresses.
2. Have you ever read a FanFiction about 2?
Merlin x Morgana was the reason I started writing fanfiction actually <3 And I have read quite a lot!
3. Has a picture of 4 ever been your screen saver/profile picture/tumblr?
They have not actually!
4. If 7 were to suddenly break-up today, what would your reaction be?
OUCH™. This question came for my life a lil bit. Ow :(
*SPOILERS* But Solas does fucking break up with you in the game regardless of what you do and we’re basically doomed to face our lover and try to stop him before he destroys the world in the next game. That route/relationship is known as Solavellan Hell. Worst/best? part is that he still loves you and you him. But as for my reaction? Despite knowing it was going to happen somehow, I still sobbed and felt like I’d gotten broken up with in real life. BioWare really knows how to hurt us.
5. Why is 1 so important?
Strap in. I’ve only been into Nygmobblepot for almost exactly a year at this point and I can’t remember being *this* attached to a ship like this for a long time. Part of why it lingers in my mind is because there’s still that slight feeling of disappointment that they were so close to being explicitly canon on screen but homophobia got in the way, and yet they really are still canon in all but sharing a kiss and explicitly stating their mutual romantic intent. These two have checked off almost every box in regards to tropes because they went from strangers to friends to almost lovers to enemies to tentative allies back to friends with their mutual feelings being pretty transparent under the surface. There’s so much to play with in regards to story because you can have your pick of dynamics depending what season it’s set in and the creators in this fandom are next-level. They’re two people that are continuously ostracized from everyone around them and they consider each other their best friend, something neither of which has had before. They’re weird and pretty nasty people, but somehow are canonly so Soft™ when they’re around each other (unless they’re enemies and then helloooooo sexual tension). Both have said in so many words ‘I love you’ to the other and have been beaten, tortured, and thrown their lives on the line to protect the other. They’re stylish evil villains in love with an adorable height difference and their incredible chemistry really makes it impossible not to root for them.
6. Is 9 a funny ship or a serious ship?
Funny! They do have serious moments, but since they are both companions (and don’t have an *actual* side romance) they’re mostly there for humorous banter when you have them both around.
7. Out of all of the ships listed, which ship has the most chemistry?
That is really hard. I feel like it might be a tie between both sets of Murder Husbands: Nygmobblepot and Hannigram.
8. Out of all of your ships listed, which ship has the strongest bond?
Again, I think I might say Nygmobblepot and Hannigram.
9. How many times have you read/watched 8’s fandom?
Twice! I watched the show as it aired and then I rewatched it when my best friend was getting into it!

MakoHaru! They’ve been best friends since childhood <3

Damn all the painful questions keep coming for the doomed ships. So, Merlin and Morgana have never officially been together EVEN THOUGH THE WRITERS GAVE US THIS WHOLE THING ABOUT HOW THEY WERE EACH OTHER’S *DESTINY* AND DOOM and yadda yada. But while Merthur is the most popular ship in this fandom, I’ll always have a special place for Mergana because they could have been something really special had the writers not made stupid decisions and had him not tell her about his magic. (this show in general makes me so bitter lmao) But they were really great friends in the beginning and him poisoning her would probably uhhh be the breakup and then it just got worse from there :(
12. If the world was suddenly thrust into a zombie apocalypse, which ship would make it out alive, 2 or 8?
Definitely 2 because they both have incredibly powerful magic.
13. Did 5 ever have to hide their relationship for any reason?
They are in the early stages of their partnership ;) The game takes place over the course of 24 hours so they aren’t quite there yet, but I doubt they’d hide it once they did get together.

Yes it is, in my world state at least. They broke up for about half a year after the events of the second game but have been together ever since and Hawke gets to talk about his bae when you meet him in the third game ^_^
16. If all 10 ships were put into a couple’s Hunger Games, which couple would win?
Uhhhhhhh there’s like 3 people in this list that are ‘the most powerful magical being in their universe’ so. It’d be down to Merlin/Morgana, Korra/Asami, and Lavellan/Solas. I feel like due to the fact that neither favor underhanded means typically, Korra/Asami would be out. But Merlin, Morgana, and Solas are real bastards so it might be down to raw power mixed with what sabotage is laid out.
17. Has anybody ever tried to sabotage 10’s ship?
Not really, everyone in universe kinda knows they’re a thing.
18. Which ship would you defend to the death and beyond?
This is like my fourth tie but it’s gonna be between Nygmobblepot and Mergana. Nygmobs because they’re meant for each and have said so. And I’m currently obsessed. Mergana because it was one of my very first ships and even if it still ended tragically, I’ll always mourn the boatloads of potential they had for some really intriguing stuff between the two of them and never touched any of it.
19. Do you spend hours a day going through 1’s tumblr page?
Thankfully I’ve calmed from when I first got into it but I generally have a daily check on here and AO3 <3
20. If an evil witch descended from the sky and told you that you had to pick one of the ten ships to break up forever or else she´d break them all forever, which ship would you sink?
Well since Mergana is DEFINITELY broken up forever, I’ll pick that one.

Awkward Silence
Word Count: 4,000
Angst/Fluff
Summary: So maybe you’re in love with your best friend. And maybe telling him you hate his girlfriend isn’t the best time to tell him how you feel.
Spearmint. Chris Bang always smelled like spearmint, clean and refreshing. It was a scent that you had become unable to disassociate from your best friend. Hours spent in his room while he wrote and you did your homework, the lingering scent of it on your clothes after a too long, too tight but somehow not tight enough bear hug. It was a comforting scent, his arm over your shoulder as he listened to you rant on his front steps, as he gave you his shoulder to cry on after an awful breakup, a college or internship rejection letter, homesickness. Spearmint was Chris Bang and Chris Bang was home.
Of course, you would never tell him any of this. You liked to believe that he knew how much you cared about him and that just being together, being around each other in the way that the two of you always were would show him how important he was. But you also believed that saying it would carry too much weight.
Your mutual friend, Woojin, had caught onto it before you had. The three of you had made a habit of meeting for coffee in the mornings before work or class or Chris’ long studio hours with the rest of 3RACHA. Chris had gone off to order you all’s drinks—he was in a good mood because their newest mixtape had gotten the most streams out of any of their other project—and you hadn’t noticed that you were watching him. Or rather, you hadn’t noticed how obvious it was.
Woojin chuckled slightly and waved a hand in front of your face to pull your attention away from Chris. “So,” he said, a knowing grin on his face, “how long have you been in love with him?”
Your breath caught in your throat and your eyes widened at the sudden question. Love? You? Chris? That was ridiculous. How could you ever love someone as loud and goofy as Chris, especially when you two had basically grown up together. There was no way. You tried to explain that to Woojin, but you were flustered and could barely put together a complete sentence. When Chris came back with your favorite drink and a few pastries, Woojin’s question was still lingering in your head.
Love? You? Chris? How long had it been?
After much pondering on your end—and a few distressed calls to your friend Minho—you decided that it would be best not to tell Chris. You had been friends for years and telling him would only ruin that. You decided that you would rather get over—you could get over it, right?—instead of possibly making your relationship with him awkward. You decided. Until you met Ava.
Chris had invited you to the studio to watch 3RACHA record a new song, partially because you were his best friend and he liked your feedback, but mostly because he liked watching how nervous Jisung got whenever you came around. Changbin was playing a new beat for you and Jisung was trying to find something to do that wasn’t staring at you or nervous rambling. Chris had been looking over the lyrics when his phone chimed. Checking the text, a large smile spread across his face.
“I’ll be right back, guys.”
You watched as he practically bounced out of the studio and laughed once the door was closed. “He has friends that aren’t us?” You asked jokingly.
“Oh, I’d say Ava is a little more than a friend,” Changbin smirked. You started to ask what he was talking about when Chris returned, arm slung around the waist of girl you hadn’t seen before. She was average height with long, black hair, brown eyes and a body most girls would kill for. When the two of them entered, they were laughing, some joke the rest of you weren’t in on.
“(Y/N),” Chris said, still laughing, “This is Ava, my new girlfriend.”
If you had doubted it before then, at that moment you knew you definitely had feelings for Chris because those words felt like bricks. They came at you in slow motion, but the impact was still rough, heavy and uncomfortable. He hadn’t mentioned anything about seeing someone, certainly no one that he liked enough to make his girlfriend. He was supposed to tell you everything; he always told you everything. You were taking too long to say something, and you were sure that the expression on your face wasn’t the one Chris had been expecting. Changbin nudged you lightly.
“Uh, wow. It’s really nice to meet you.”
“A girlfriend, Minho! He has a girlfriend!”
You were pacing around your room, kind of cleaning but mostly just moving things from one pile of mess to another. You couldn’t focus. Your laptop sat on your desk, video chat open with Minho who watched you, slightly amused and slightly concerned as you moved around your room.
“So you’ve said at least three different times,” he said. “I’m sorry, I thought we had agreed that you were just going to leave it alone. Why do you care that he has a girlfriend?”
You stopped, hanging up the jacket you were holding before plopping down in your desk chair. “This is and isn’t about me having a crush on him.”
“I wouldn’t call being in love with someone a crush, but please continue.”
“ANYWAY,” you said, rolling your eyes, it’s not just about that. It’s the fact that he never once mentioned this girl. Like, okay, am I upset that he’s with someone else? Maybe.”
Minho muttered a “definitely” under his breath, but you ignored him.
“But I’m more upset that he didn’t tell me about her when we’re supposed to be best friends. I mean, he’s never kept any of his old relationships from me, so why couldn’t he tell me about little miss Gangnam?”
“Are you mad they’re dating or are you mad that she lives in Gangnam?”
“BOTH.” You sighed. “I’m just scared that we’ll end up drifting apart whether I tell him about my feelings or not…”
Over the next couple weeks, this became less of a fear and more of a reality. Chris had started skipping your morning meetups to spend time with Ava before she had to go to class and, when he did show up, he had either brought her in tow or the conversation seemed to center around how amazing she was or their latest date. And you wanted to be happy for him, you were trying your best, honestly. But you couldn’t say you didn’t miss how things had been before.
It was Changbin and Jisung who invented you to their showcase. Chris had somehow forgot to mention it. The other boys attributed it to nerves and how busy he was getting everything together. It was nothing big since they were still starting out, a gig at a local bar, but they were all excited because it was theirs. They were headlining their first show and, even if it was a hole in the wall venue, nothing could take that excitement away from them.
You and Woojin showed up early, Woojin helping with tech and you giving your best pep talks. Jisung blushed furiously when you told him you were proud of him and ruffled his hair. Combing his hair back into place with his fingers, Jisung muttered, “Cut it out” through his smile. Chris sat on the edge of the stage, running lyrics. You could tell from his posture that he was nervous and was probably scolding himself for a slip of the tongue or skipped syllable. You hadn’t seen him like this since the high school talent show. You wanted to go over to him, give him a hug and tell him to breathe, that no matter what happened tonight he was still one of the best artists out right now and, if he didn’t believe you, soundcloud and twitter could gladly confirm. But just as you were getting ready to head over there, Ava came bounding through the door, throwing herself into his arms. Sighing, you turned back to Jisung and Changbin and told them you were going to the bathroom before the show started.
As you were heading back to the stage, you could hear laughing coming from the hallway. Ava was leaning against the wall, on her phone. “No, of course not, have you seen the kid? He’s cute, but definitely not my type.”
You froze.
“He’s getting all sorts of press because of his music, but that’s basically the only attractive thing about him. For the few weeks that we’ve been hanging out, I’ve already gained like a thousand Instagram followers. His brand goes up and so does mine.”
The realization that she was talking about Chris left you with a strange taste in your mouth. On the one hand, you were glad your intuition about her being awful hadn’t just been fueled by jealousy. On the other, all you could think about was how crushed Chris would be when he found out. Regardless of how you felt about either one of them, he genuinely had feelings for this girl. And she didn’t give a shit about him.
Being CB97 was the only good thing about him? What about his stuttered laugh when he’s embarrassed or the dimple that always forms in his lopsided smile? What about how caring he is and how he’ll do anything to make other people happy, even if it means embarrassing himself? What about his eyes and his hugs that are always too tight but never tight enough? What about him?
You were angry, but you couldn’t tell him this now, not when he was going on stage soon and this was his night. You would deal with this later. Storming past her, you could see the look of panic on Ava’s face. She knew that you had heard her. Quickly, she told whoever was on the line that she had to go and followed you.
“(Y/N), hey, wait.”
You turned on your heel, glaring at her. “What?”
She smiled but it was fake and overly sweet. “I just wanted to make sure you didn’t have the wrong idea about me.” Ava started to say something else, reaching out to hold your hand but you swatted her away.
“Thanks, but I think I’m a pretty good judge of character.”
Taking a couple deep breaths, you tried to push it from your mind. Right now, your friends needed you to be there for them.
Doors for the show opened at 6 and it was packed almost instantly, the bar filled with the low hum of people talking all at once. You managed to find Woojin and Minho at a table not far from the stage, two baskets of fries and a couple drinks spread out in front of them. You took a seat between the two of them.
“What’s wrong?” Minho asked almost as soon as you sat down. Aside from Chris, he was probably the person who knew you best in the whole world so, even though you looked completely fine to Woojin, Minho knew better. You smiled and told him not to worry about it.
“I’ll explain later. Right now..” You caught sight of Chris who was still very obviously nervous. He had turned his attention to nitpicking at the other boys clothes and microphones. “Right now, we just need to be here for them.”
Once the first few notes of Don Quixote started, the low hum erupted into cheers. You watched intently as 3RACHA performed. You had seen them in the studio several times, and you knew probably better than anyone how passionate these boys were about their music. But this was something completely different. These boys on stage were like different people: powerful, charming, flirty. They were leaving everything they had on the stage. The showcase ended with lots of thanks to the audience for attending and then a new song, the applause afterwards practically deafening. Even if no one else could see it, you knew that look on Chris’ face. That was the look of someone who’s dreams were coming true.
“I think I’m going to tell Ava that I love her.”
You had been unloading your dishwasher when he said it. It was absentminded, an offhand comment he made while scribbling in his notebook. You were caught off guard and ended up dropping the plate you were holding, the glass crashing against the floor, your hands still poised in the air as if you were still holding it.
“(Y/N), are you okay?” Chris jumped up and moved you away from the mess, sitting you down at your kitchen table before grabbing the broom. “You really have to be more careful. What if you had gotten hurt, huh?”
You watched as he cleaned up your mess and then closed the dishwasher. He sat down across from you, worry in his eyes. “Are you okay?”
Without blinking, you muttered, “You need to break up with Ava.”
Chris’ blinked a few times, confused, before asking, “I’m sorry, what?”
“I said, you need to break up with Ava.” There was more conviction in your voice the second time you said it.
“And, why would I do that? I really like her, (Y/N).” Chris was speaking slowly, trying to get you to understand. “I think I do lo-“
“Don’t say it again.”
“I don’t understand. Why would I break up with someone who makes me happy?”
You bit your bottom lip, trying to put together your words. You needed to tell him the truth without sounding terrible. You needed him to understand that you were only trying to help him.
“She doesn’t care about the way you think she does…”
Chris laughed. “Come on. There’s no way that’s true. I mean, if she didn’t care about me, why would we have been spending all this time together? Why would she have asked me out?”
“Chris, she doesn’t care about you. She cares about CB97.”
“(Y/N)…”
“Ava isn’t who you think she is. She’s using CB97 for clout and I just don’t want you to get hurt because-“
Chris interrupted you, standing up from the table and grabbing his notebook. “The only person hurting me right now is you.”
“Wait, what?”
“Look, I get it. I’ve been spending a lot of time with Ava. Woojin told me you were upset that I was missing our morning coffee. I miss hanging out with you, too.” No. That look in his eyes. Was he disappointed in you? You couldn’t believe this. “But making up lies about my girlfriend just because you’re jealous? I never thought you would do something like that.”
You gasped in disbelief. “Did you just…Did you just call me a liar?” When he didn’t answer, you couldn’t help but laugh. “You’re joking, right? Chris we’ve been friends for like half our lives and I have never lied to you. Why the fuck would I start now? We’re supposed to be best friends.”
“Exactly.” He said. “We’re supposed to be best friends. So why can’t you just be happy for me that I found someone I want to be with?”
“Because she doesn’t want to be with you!” You were yelling. It wasn’t on purpose. You hated raising your voice. But you were angry and frustrated. Angry that this girl who didn’t give a shit about him was using him and coming between the two of you. Frustrated that he wasn’t able to see it. “At the showcase, she was bragging on the phone about how many followers she had gotten, how much her ‘brand’ had increased all because she knew you. Ava doesn’t care about you, Chris. I need you to listen to me.”
“You’re lying.” Chris said adamantly. “She didn’t even know I was CB97 when we met. There’s no way that’s true. Why are you so bent on getting me to break up with her?”
Twice. He had called you a liar twice. Why were you even having this argument? Why was it your job to tell him that his girlfriend was a piece of shit? Why were you so bent on getting him to break up with her? A small voice in your head said, “Because we’re best friends.” A louder voice, definitely not in your head, said “Because I love you.”
Chris froze and so did you. You had decided that you weren’t going to tell him. You were set on not telling him. And even if you had wanted to, you didn’t want it to be like this.
“Chris, I…”
He spoke over you, probably afraid that you were going to say it again. “I need to go.” And just like that, he was out of your apartment. You slid down in your chair, face in your hands. This wasn’t even close to how you had seen your day going.
Fighting with Chris was the worst feeling because, when you were upset, he was the first person you would always turn to. How could you do that when he was the reason you were upset? So, instead, you turned to Minho who asked no questions when you asked him to come over asap. A pizza, pint of ice cream and a few Disney movies later, you had told him the whole story and gotten everything out of your system. He listened and, despite a few wise cracks here and there, Minho didn’t judge you.
Once you were done, he said, “You need to talk to him. And before you say, ‘but Minho there’s no way I could’ or whatever else you’re gonna say, there isn’t an option.”
You sank down into the couch, a bag of your favorite chips in your lap. “I don’t even know what I would say to him. ‘Sorry I randomly confessed my love for you, but your girlfriend is still a piece of shit’?”
“Well, maybe not exactly like that, but basically.”
You groaned, falling over into Minho’s lap. “This is just so dumb. I can’t believe he made me out to be the bad guy because I was trying to protect him…”
“Can you blame him? I mean, if someone told you that me or Chris or Woojin were only pretending to be your friend, would you believe them right away?”
“…No…”
“Exactly.” He smiled down at you. “Sometimes it’s hard to listen to the truth when its something you don’t want to hear. But you need to talk to him. Sooner rather than later.”
“Yeah…But for now, I wanna watch Moana again.”
Despite Minho’s advice, it was another week before you saw Chris again. The other boys had caught onto the fact that the two of you weren’t speaking. Not in a “we’re both busy and just haven’t had time” way, but that the two of you legitimately weren’t speaking. Woojin noticed when you didn’t show up for coffee three days in a row. Jisung and Changbin noticed from the way Chris tensed up in the studio at the mention of your name. Even if they didn’t know what was going on, they knew they needed to intervene.
Jisung texted you asking you to meet him for lunch. You were hesitant but agreed to go since he hadn’t mentioned anyone else going. Of course, you should’ve known better. When you got to the restaurant, all of them were sitting together, Chris freezing midsentence when Changbin called you over. You were tempted to just leave but, between Woojin, Changbin and Jisung, you knew they would probably drag you back. The boys shuffled seats so that you were forced to sit directly across from Chris, but you looked at everyone but him.
“Jisung, I thought you said it was just going to be us.”
“Sorry…We just…We’re all worried about you two. So, we’re going to go over there,” Jisung pointed at a table not that far away from the one you all were currently sitting at. “And you two are going to talk this out.”
“And don’t even think about leaving until you do,” Woojin added. The three of them moved tables, Changbin letting you know that they were watching in case either of you tried to run. Sighing, you forced yourself to look at Chris.
“Ava and I broke up.” You weren’t sure what to say to that, but Chris didn’t give you a chance to say anything. “That same day, actually…not long after I left your place.”
His voice was ow and he sounded sad. Softly, you asked, “How come you didn’t say anything?”
Chris stared at you for a moment and, for some reason, you felt naked. Maybe because he had never looked at you like this or maybe because he never did acknowledge your confession. Even if you had gotten rejected, at least you would’ve known where to go from there.
“Do you have any idea how unfair you’re being?” he asked. Your eyes widened at the question.
“What? What do you mean?”
“(Y/N), we’ve known each other for like 7 years.”
“8, actually…” you interjected, and Chris couldn’t help but snicker a little.
“Fine. 8 years. And, in all that time, there was never any kind of clue that you thought of me as anything other than a friend.”
“In my defense, this was a fairly recent development…”
“You have no idea how unfair it is for me to have finally convinced myself that I was over my feelings for you.” Chris could see it on your face that you were going to interrupt him again, so he said, “Let me finish first. You have no idea how unfair it is for me to finally think ‘we can just be friends’ only for you to not only tell me that my girlfriend is using me but also that you’re in love with me.”
You had known that telling him that while he was in a relationship would put him in a tough spot and, you honestly hadn’t meant to say it. But it was too late now. He knew and now you both just had to deal with it.
“You were right about Ava…I’m sorry that I called you a liar and for very actively avoiding you this past week. But I had a lot I needed to think about.”
“I know…and I am sorry for just dumping that on you then. I was just frustrated and it slipped out. But we can just pretend I never said it.”
Being around Chris had always felt comforting but, right now, you had never felt so vulnerable.
“What if I don’t want to do that?” Chris asked.
“Then what?”
Chris sat up a bit in his seat and reached across the table to hold your hand. His skin was warm and soft against yours. “Then we can figure out what that means for us.” Us. The word felt weighted and a little scary, but the small grin on Chris’ face made you relax. “Although, I do have one condition.”
“What’s that?”
“I want to hear you say it again.”
It took you a second to realize what ‘it’ was. When you made the connection, you felt your ears and cheeks heat up with embarrassment at the sudden realization that the rest of your friends were still watching the two of you.
“Come on, not in front of the kids,” you whined. Chris just laughed and gave your hand a squeeze.
“Nope, definitely in front of the kids. I want to hear you say it.”
You glanced over at the other table where the other boys were grinning and watching the two of you intently. Turning your attention back to Chris and let out a deep breath.
“I love you.

All I Want For Christmas Is Stability (MLB Secret Santa Exchange)

AO3 - Six years after graduating high school, Marinette and Alya, amongst most of their old classmates, find themselves in a Christmas party hosted by Chloé. Life seems to be running smoothly...for almost everyone. Sometimes you just need to have a little breakdown!
"Well...the decorations are lovely," Alya commented hesitantly while Marinette and her looked around at the room covered in gold, "they're really, um, festive."
Marinette sighed, she really didn't want to be there, celebrating Christmas in a room full of people she either didn't know or didn't know anymore. She had tried to keep in contact with the people from her middle school and high school days, but as time passed what little contact they had kept thinning until it was none at all. All of them were now around 24 years old, just like her, and six years changed people, maybe not enough to make this a shocking experience (she was an adult, dammit!) but Marinette couldn't help but feel a little...jarred.
"There are so many people here, Alya, where did Chloé even find all these people?" The panicked girl whispered.
"Mari! Don't be like that! Give this party a chance."
"I'm trying!"
Alya sighed, "okay, listen, I feel you. And I'm sorry I dragged you here, but I really do think it'll do you good to get out of the house for a bit. Ever since the breakup, you've been holed up in there..."
"Alya, do you even realize that he's probably gonna be here?" Marinette asked flatly.
"Well...yes. But it's time you face him!"
"I think you should have let me decide for myself."
"I'm sorry." A pause, "but! You came, didn't you? I know that if you really didn't want to come, you wouldn't have."
"Well...! I was just curious! But I'm starting to deeply regret it... Maybe I should just go home, I'm not doing anything here anyway and-" Marinette was cut off by someone patting her on the back with considerable strength. She had half a mind to roundhouse kick whoever had tried to attack her but recognized Kim's voice before she could make the night even worse.
"Hey girls! Long time no see!"
"Hi, Kim!" Alya greeted pleasantly, "how're things?"
"Well, pretty good! I'm getting married in like two months, the opening of our gym went amazing...things are really working out so far. How about you?"
Marinette giggled nervously, she really didn't want to talk about how her life was going. Her online store was faring well, but besides that everything felt like a train wreck about to happen right in front of her eyes, and she didn't know how to stop it.
"Going great too! I'm working on a big story right now," Alya smiled. "Can't wait to see you guys getting married though! Are Alix and Max here too?"
"Yeah! They're off...somewhere," he laughed. "You, Marinette? Everything okay?"
The girl froze, champagne glass halfway to her lips, "oh, uh, hah, you know...things are going, uh, smooth..."
He nodded, looking entirely like he didn't know, "I see. Anyway, good seeing you two, it really has been a while! We should meet up sometime before the wedding! You guys take care, see you!" Kim finished, walking away to talk to someone else.
The three of them knew that wouldn't happen.
"Mariboo, my girl, my babe...you know I love you anyway, right? But you have to get it together, girl," Alya spoke softly, like she might hurt her, and it only made her feel a lot worse.
"I-I know. And I will." She just didn't feel like that would happen right now.
Her friend nodded at her solemnly, "I know."
It had been a rough month, a rough year really, but she would pull through, even if everything felt incredibly overwhelming at the moment.
Alya shook her arm, "oh, look!"
Marinette looked. At the entrance, stood Adrien, someone who she hadn't seen in a long, long time, but still missed dearly. She had gotten over her crush (somewhat) but what she felt for him ran deeper, the admiration and love she had for him never faded, so it sent a tingle down her back to see him again. She didn't think she could ever tire of looking at him, at his kind eyes and soft smile.
She wasn't entirely sure why they had stopped hanging out, after all he and Nino were still friends, but Alya, the girlfriend herself, said she didn't get to see Adrien much either. He was a busy person after all, what with his job as a teacher and as a part-time model for Gabriel.
"Oh, wow. It's been a long time since I've seen him, hasn't it?" She sighed.
Alya rolled her eyes, "yes, it has. I see the crush coming back already."
"Don't even start, I don't have time for any kind of crush right now." She really didn't, which would absolutely not stop said crush from secretly reblossoming.
There was a clinking sound.
"Everyone!" Chloé's called dramatically through a microphone she held while standing on top of a large stage where a band played softly. "I would like to thank you for coming to my Christmas ball. Now that the guest of honor has arrived, we can really get this party going!" Chloé laughed and winked at Adrien, "he's a hero after all."
Marinette glanced at Adrien, noticing that he looked nervous - something that didn't usually happen to him - and frowned.
"What does she even mean 'a hero'...?"
"Who knows? I feel like Chloé has been getting progressively weirder."
"She really has," an amused voice spoke from behind them, making both girls jump.
"Jesus, Sabrina! Don't do that!" Alya choked out, clutching her chest while Marinette laughed it out.
"Sorry, I didn't mean to scare you! I guess I have light feet," she smiled.
"Sabrina, hi! You really do! It's been so long, how have things been going these past few years?" Marinette asked, trying to cover up the fact that she had been bad-mouthing Sabrina's (ex?) best friend just a few seconds ago.
The girl, standing confidently and clad in a beautiful turquoise gown, gave them a knowing smile, "oh, it's been great! I'm still studying, so I'm trying to focus on that. I also have some projects on the side... I can say I'm happy with my life, you know? And you, girls! Update me!"
Marinette once again found herself sipping nervously from her (second) champagne glass, letting Alya take on the conversation as she tried to make herself look smaller.

"When does Nino get here, anyway?" Marinette asked, exasperatedly, "I really wanna go sleep in the car, Alya."

Alya nodded and she went off, hoping not to find anyone else that wanted to ask her how her life was going since graduating high school. She was already on her fourth glass of champagne and she expected to start feeling them some time.
After leaving the bathroom, Marinette felt better. She had splashed a little water on her makeup-less cheeks and given herself a pep talk, she was ready to-

"Uh, hi Adrien...it's okay, honestly." She made an attempt at laughing it off, "sucks that we had to meet like this after spending so long without seeing each other, but i'll take what I can get."
"It really does," he started, rubbing the back of his neck. "And - obviously - i'll pay for whatever damage I caused! I really am sorry."
That dress was one of her originals and Marinette knew that stain would never, ever, leave. "It's fine, Adrien! I know it was an accident," this time her smile was more real, he was too endearing...
"I'm just gonna go try and do some damage control..." She said, motioning for the bathroom. She knew there was nothing she could do for the dress at this point, but at least she could go bang her head against a wall for a few minutes and pretend like everything was okay.
"Oh, uh, sure! Do you mind if I wait for you so we can catch up?"
And the look he directed at her was so genuinely hopeful that she just couldn't say no.

So that was how Marinette now found herself alone with Adrien in a huge balcony, after months of mutual silence.
"So!" Adrien almost shouted into the silent night, making them both wince, "how have things been?"
Marinette had been expecting this question, she really had! She had been bracing herself for it. It wasn't like she hadn't been asked the same thing a hundred times that night.
But this...this was different. It was Adrien, who she knew had a special place in her heart, no matter what. And they were alone, and it was so quiet out here and, frankly, she was starting to get cold...
"Hey...hey, Mari? I'm sorry," he moved closer to hug her and she realized that, yes, she was crying like a baby.
It only made her angrier. She still hadn't seen Nath - which she had been mentally preparing for for two whole days - Nino was late, and all she wanted was to cuddle Alya on the couch while watching some stupid re-run on TV. She definitely didn't want any of whatever this was! None of this crying in her high school crush's arms in a stupidly big balcony bullshit - in a ruined dress, no less!
"I'm sorry Mari..."
"Why the hell are you sorry?" She spat out. "You don't even know any of what happened for me to be like this, I'm just being dramatic, just- leave me alone, I feel so pathetic..."
But she missed Chat Noir, and she was angry at Nath, and upset over everything, and, frankly, she felt exhausted. She felt like her career was going nowhere. Despite the store not going bad, it also wasn't doing great enough to sustain her. Not that it mattered, who had time for eating when you had to work on commissions, anyway? She missed Tikki forcing her to eat, she even missed Chat's stupid puns. She looked up at Adrien then, remembering that his own father was Hawkmoth, and felt even more pathetic. Here she was, crying in the arms of someone who was probably suffering a lot more than her.
Marinette dabbed at her cheeks with the calloused pads of her fingers, "I'm really sorry. I drank a little too much and I'm being a brat. I really need to get some sleep before I chew someone's head off..."
"Don't say that. What you're feeling is valid, Marinette. Your feelings are no less than mine, or anyone else's. Everyone's allowed to be in a bad mood once in a while. I've never seen you spreading anything if not love, positivity, and kindness..." he paused, still looking into her eyes. "It's okay that you're having a rough time, it doesn't mean it'll last forever. And I know you probably know that, but if it were me, I would like to be reassured so...this is me reassuring you," he smirked.
"We all get overwhelmed sometimes, doesn't make us any less strong. Cry away, scream at me all you want. I promise I'll even like it! I know it would be helping you. I'm in a good place, and I like to try bringing as many people up with me as I can when that happens."
He said all of this with a soft smile on his face, and with such understanding in his eyes, that it made Marinette feel like throwing up. Instead, she just cried harder, and for a long time. She didn't know how long, but enough for her throat to feel raw.
When she finally stopped, her eyes feeling strangely dry and her insides feeling empty, Adrien was still holding onto her, and for a moment he reminded her so much of Chat that she just let the confession escape her.
"I just really miss him..."
He hesitated for a few moments, "who?"
"Chat Noir. I really, really miss him. And you know what's even more upsetting? That that's genuinely the most bothersome, painful thing in my life right now," she inhaled deeply before letting it all out again in one heavy exhale, trying to rid herself of the feeling of heaviness.
Adrien looked at her with something akin to wonder in his expression. For a moment he just stared, his lips slowly parting, making Marinette a little uncomfortable, "Adrien...?"
Then...recognition and disbelief.
"Boy..." he exclaimed breathlessly, "do I have some news for you..."
