my encanto analysis/headcanon that no one asked for
so, i was just looking through some encanto fanart and headcanons and came across this piece (artist: https://mobile.twitter.com/ye_enc):
Tumblr media
abuela had triplets - julieta, pepa, and bruno. both julieta and pepa had three kids - isabella, luisa, and mirabel for julieta, and dolores, camilo, and antonio for pepa.
what i noticed is that for each batch of three, each individual falls under a certain category, and it seems to follow by age.
julieta was, as this lovely fanart shows, likely depended on quite frequently for her ability to heal via her cooking. her gift would have been the most useful and therefore she likely would have been praised the most as “the perfect one”.
this, of course, next falls to isabella, who we see this with the most frequently. abuela very clearly is living the life she wished she could have lived through isabella, and is viewed as the perfect golden child by everyone around her.
dolores is a little different, but i believe she still fits the trope. she is basically the physical embodiment of “seen but not heard.” she keeps quiet on the things she knows would upset her family and doesn’t make herself heard, even when she is in pain, whether physical or emotional. she doesn’t tell anyone that she knows bruno has been living in the walls for the ten years he’s been missing; she doesn’t tell anyone about her feelings for mariano, because she knows that will upset abuela and her cousin’s “perfect for the encanto” arrangement; and one can only imagine how loud certain things are to her, that are endurable for us (fireworks, for example).
next are the middle children: pepa, luisa, and camilo. all of them have some kind of pressure on their shoulders. (and - just a fun thing i noticed - while luisa’s literal pressure is the many things she carries, pepa’s pressure is atmospheric pressure, because she controls the weather. but anyway, lol).
all three of these characters are told in one way or another to bottle up their emotions and keep them buried inside. with pepa, we see this very directly as she is constantly told by the other characters (especially abuela) to, as the fanart above shows, calm down and essentially turn off her emotions because of the damage she can cause with her weather powers. this kind of reminds me of the “conceal, don’t feel” thing that elsa had with her gloves. both pepa and elsa demonstrate the same growth throughout their movies, too - learning to accept themselves and their abilities and thus being able to control them instead of being controlled by them - but, i digress.
luisa, by contrast, is indirectly told to keep her emotions at bay. she is treated as something of a useful tool, both by the town and by abuela, and seen in a very masculine light despite her relatively feminine personality. because of this treatment and the expectation that she will always be strong that comes with it, she falls into the same category as pepa.
camilo, like dolores, is a little different, but still fits. we don’t see much of him in the movie, but i imagine he is depended on as being the funny one. if anyone reading this is into k-pop or bts, think of camilo as like the j-hope or the jin of the group. he’s always expected to be funny and smiling, lifting everyone else’s spirits - but who lifts his spirits?
and lastly, we have the youngest siblings - bruno, mirabel, and antonio. they fit into the roll, of course, of the scapegoat, of family disappointments.
bruno was rejected by the town and by his family, seen as a harbinger of chaos and horror, a bad omen - all because he can see the future, something that he obviously cannot control. but, of course, it’s easier to simply blame someone else than accept the truth or take responsibility for your own actions.
mirabel, of course, is treated in much the same way. she is seen as a bad omen, as well, and is quite literally feared to be the one who will destroy the family and the encanto, because of bruno’s vision.
antonio does not quite fit into this category, but i think if he had not gotten a gift, he would have been shunned in much the same way as bruno or mirabel. it can also be argued that his gift isn’t really very useful, and we can see abuela struggle for a moment to think of how they could put his gift to use at the breakfast at the beginning of the movie (”i told them to warm up your seat”).
anyway - this is all to say that each of the siblings in each of the batches of three appears to fill (or almost fill) the same rolls. i’m sure someone else has already noticed this and i’m just late to the party - but i thought it was cool.

Tumblr media
summary: when meeting eddie’s family, things don’t go over as well as y/n hoped; that doesn’t change all of the things he loves about her.
eddie diaz x reader
i have state testing and finals coming up so i will be editing this as soon as i can, but i wanted to get it up anyway :)) also i love spanish so this was so fun to write, hopefully it was accurate!
y/n was sitting in the passengers seat of eddie’s shiny car, with christopher in the back. one of eddie’s hands was on the wheel, the other was laying on her thigh. his deep, black sunglasses were shielding his eyes from the bright morning sun. looking back at chris, he had a shining smile on his face with a game in his lap that he had convinced eddie to let him bring.
the group had been down in el paso, visiting the family as they were having a get together. eddie figured it was the perfect time to introduce y/n to the people who grew up with him. obviously, it could go either way, but eddie absolutely admired her and couldn’t see how they wouldn’t either.
y/n’s knee had been bouncing up and down through the slit of her floral dress. it was black with magenta flowers, and her hair had a few casual pieces in the front hanging out. that was one of the things eddie loves about her. she can wear a nice old dress and have her hair blowing in the wind and look radiant. despite the worry free look on her face, the body language gave it away to eddie.
“you nervous?” he asks, looking over at her when stopping. she peeks back over to him.
“a little, honestly. i’m excited, though. i’m looking forward to meeting your tía,” she says, coming up with a response. “i mean, i would get nervous meeting anyone’s family.”
“they’re going to love you, and my abuela has been talking about you non-stop and she doesn’t even know you yet,” eddie tells her, trying to calm her nerves. y/n laughs and thinks about all the stories she’s been told about his family. she feels a little better in the moment, but still anxious for the moment when her character becomes involved.
they drive up to the small texas house, and eddie’s abuela was waiting by the door. “pepa! ¡están aquí!”
eddie and y/n open their doors, and y/n goes to help chris out while eddie greets his family. “hola, abuela,” eddie says, pulling her in for an embrace. his aunt had arrived before him, and she ran out besides his abuela.
“¡Ay, edmundo!” his tía announces. “we’ve been waiting all day for you three,” she says, pointing to y/n walking up patiently with christopher. “hola, mis amores.” she plants sweet kisses on christopher’s head before passing him onto his bisabuela. she takes a hold of y/n’s hands, and pulls her into a hug. “you must be y/n!”
she pulls back, taking a look at y/n as eddie watches with a wide grin on his face. he knows they love her already as she can mesh in so well. “¡qué guapa eres, edmundo!”
y/n blushes at his aunts words, and says, “you guys are so lovely, thank you for inviting me!”
“you are welcome any time, y/n!” his abuela says.
“i brought you these flowers,” y/n hands her a bouquet of yellow and orange flowers. “i grew them at my house and picked some out for you.”
“eddie, i love her already.”
walking around the comforting home, christopher leads y/n and eddie through, showing her around and introducing her to various diaz family members. eddie stops her in her tracks and turns her around. “i told you they would love you.”
even though y/n tried to hide it, she was scared to come. eddie had opened up about his relationship with his father and even with his relationship with shannon. he was scared too, worried about how he would react after what happened with shannon. eddie wasn’t sure if he was ready for a relationship, but after meeting y/n and being confronted with her elegance, he was already falling for her. she carried herself around with grave and empathy for everyone she meets. at work, she was the sweetest to her patients and her co-workers. everyone loves her, and eddie more than the rest. watching her play with his son and treat him like any other kid was the best thing he could ask of her, and he didn’t even have to. the second she met him, they were laughing together and she never once thought of him as a burden or something eddie had just been left with. being the most important thing in his life, eddie always makes sure christopher is happy, and watching his happiness grow when she’s around makes his heart soar.
“i’m glad they like me, they seem lovely, eddie.”
“they are, i really lucked out having them. but i will say none of my past relationships have gone that well in the first 10 minutes.”
“i guess i’m just special then, no?” she asks, jokingly while throwing a little grin on her face. eddie lands a quick kiss on her lips before showing her through the rest. when he finally greets his parents, they give y/n respectful smiles, but nothing more.
“i’m y/n, i just wanted to say thank you for having me,” y/n decides to break the silence and tell them.
“it’s no problem, y/n,” his mother, helena, says.
after sitting down for a while outside during the gathering, eddie has a comforting hand across her shoulders. they both had beers and were watching chris play in the distance before their peace was disturbed.
“so, y/n?” his father starts. “what do you do for work? eddie tells us you are at the station as well.”
“i am, im a paramedic,” she informs, raising the corners of her mouth slightly. “i’ve been working there for about a year more than eddie has.”
“and you like it?” he asks, almost interrogating her. she understands though, she would do the same thing if she had children. although, she was also aware of his relationship with eddie, and eddie having to deal with his absence for work sometimes. his father is a respected man, and definitely an important figure. despite these qualities, y/n can’t help but feel intimidated.
“i love it, it’s very rewarding being able to help people in their moment,” around the table, tía pepa and his abuela are looking gently at her, smiling.
“you didn’t think of anything else?”
“papí…” eddie warns.
“edmundo, he’s allowed to ask!” his mother defends back, still having mixed feelings about her.
eddie was confused as they couldn’t have heard bad things about her. internally, y/n was panicking. she had tried so hard to try and make the best impression she could, and this was just a little hill she had to get over. she was hoping to really hit it off with his parents, but it seemed more complicated than she hoped.
his parents had liked her to an extent, but worried her kindness was an act. eddie knew they were thinking this, and he was ready to fight back in defense of his girl. nothing y/n ever did was an act, and every one of her intentions was pure and out of the good of her heart. she seemed like a good person, but not as much as she might come across. she fought for validation from her parents every single day, battling with her siblings for their affection. she always tries her best to grow that kind of relationship with other people, or make sure they know that she will be there for them. eddie and y/n had different childhoods, but they’re so similar in the way they can connect through them. she tries her best to open up about her parents and how she decided to move away to him, but it still gets hard. she tries to portray that in other ways, and showing her love for others is one.
“eddie, it’s alright!” she says, not erasing any smile from her face but not being able to conceal her uncomforted mood. “i, um, decided to move away from where i grew up. so i moved to los angeles and started my training.”
“so, you left your family and went across the country?”
y/n mumbles a bit, not knowing what she should say. she looks at eddie for help, who gives his father a stare in hopes to take the spotlight off her. he knows how overwhelmed it makes her to talk about her family, let alone with people she’s never met before. he gives her hand an encouraging squeeze and brings it up to leave a kiss on her knuckles.
“well, it is a great place for opportunity! i’ve heard many people succeed from moving there.” pepa adds.
“uh, my parents didn’t support my job, but i knew it’s what i wanted.” she says, trying to explain her situation. his parents nod, almost in a disapproving way that brings her back to her parents. the stress becomes a lot to deal with, just from sitting on the back porch of the families house. she blinks rapidly, covering up any tears and being able to beat them away. luckily, no one noticed, but eddie is able to see through it. the noises from everything around her, but especially the silence from eddie’s elders. her knee begins to bounce again and she tries to stop it with her shaking hands, removing them from eddie’s grasp. “hey, can you show me to the bathroom, love?”
“yeah, of course,” eddie stands up and leads her inside, bringing her to the hallway so no one can hear them.
“¡ay, ramón! ¿por qué lo dices?” eddie hears come from the backyard, the familiar voice coming from his loving aunt.
“i’m sorry, y/n,” he starts. “i don’t know why he would say that, i told my abuela-“
“no, eddie, stop. it’s ok, i understand!”
“it’s really not ok, they have no clue what you had going on at home.”
“they’re allowed to ask questions, i cant avoid it forever,” she finishes, her eyes beginning to well up before she wipes them away and shakes her head. “i’m just going to take a minute, i’ll be back out.”
eddie nods, pulling her in and placing his hands around her waist. “i’ll be outside.”
walking back out, eddie throws out his empty beer bottle, and sits back down after grabbing a new one. the tension between him and his parents is thickening by the minute and everyone can feel it. “you can’t even ask if she’s alright?”
“eddie, she just stormed out, what do you expect us to say?” his mother says.
“because you made her uncomfortable!” he shouts, but trying to keep his volume down. “you have no clue what she’s been through or why she left home because she is not going to tell you everything. your immediate disapproval is what reminded her of her own parents. she was so excited to come here and meet you, she spent hours picking those flowers out for you and you spend this time nit-picking her. i’m not going to put her through that, i can’t watch her suffer in the shitty memories of her parents again.”
his parents faces had dropped slightly, regretting their aggressive questions, but still not fully understanding. they didn’t want her to feel bad about herself, but eddie grew up with very passionate parents. they want to keep their children safe and make sure they’re happy.
“i think we’re going to call it a night,” eddie says, standing up to go get his son. “chris! cmon bud. adiòs.”
his aunt and his abuela follow him outside, going to show them out. they didn’t fight it, because there was no fighting eddie. he knew what he wanted and his passion for y/n made the decision to leave the gathering final. he was upset, but he wouldn’t be forever. he knew she needed some time to refocus.
y/n had come out, eddie holding her hand all the way to the car. the light orange glow from the sun was making her skin shine and pointed out her slightly red cheeks.
“y/n! we are so sorry, amor,” his abuela says. “we would love to have you again sometime, you were absolutely a delight.”
“thank you so much, i’d love to see you again sometime!” she says quietly but thankfully before departing to the passengers seat of the car.
before starting the car, eddie leans over and hugs her. she wraps her arms around his neck and breathes slowly. “that could’ve gone worse, right?”
“i don’t know what their problem was tonight, that was so uncalled for.” he says in a whisper so christopher doesn’t ask questions. “but i still love you. that’s never going to change no matter what they say. because their words will never change the way i see you and your beauty,” he pauses, taking a moment to peck her cheeks and forehead. “your kindness,” he adds, “y tu corazón.” he leaves a little wink and smirk at the end.
“it’s ok,” she laughs, and eddie is relieved to see the smile return back to her face. “you know i love you so much, too.”
several days later, still on their trip in el paso, y/n and eddie hear the ring of a doorbell on their rented home. y/n walks out of the door, looking at the massive bouquet of flowers sitting on the front steps in the scalding texan sun. she scoops them up and carries them inside.
it was quite early, christopher was still fast asleep and would be for a while. eddie was yet to be out of bed after y/n left his hold. however, when he heard the door open, he pulled himself out of the shared bed. when he walked into the small kitchen, y/n was examining the flowers with a peaceful expression.
she was reading the tag attached to the pot, which said
“un regalo para ti <3
Lo siento, y/n,
- helena y ramón”
a grin grew on y/n’s face. she was taking in the true effort they’ve put into this. eddie stood behind her, placing his hands on her waist and his chin on her shoulder, reading the note. “i didn’t really know they had that in them,” eddie says.
“that means a lot, though,” she replies. “they didn’t have to do this, i should call and say thank you!”
“we can later, mi vida,” eddie starts, smiling at his girlfriend. “let me go make up for yesterday evening for now.” he says, picking her up and carrying her back to their rented bed.

Julieta & Bruno headcanons
Tumblr media
for @hectic-hector we both know these two are the best!
They're 15 minutes apart
Julieta gave Alma a heart attack because she was born calm, without crying or noise.
But she was the healthiest baby. Bruno was born weaker and smaller than his sisters.
He couldn't sleep alone, he always had to be between his sisters, but over time Pepa became more independent, leaving them alone.
It never bothered Julieta, and even after getting their own rooms and gifts, she would always leave an empty spot next to her on the bed, knowing that Bruno would appear at any time of the night.
While Pepa preferred to play outside and explore, Bruno and Julieta were home children. They would play chess, cards, puzzles, or read together.
They were the ones who could pretend to be each other, which greatly bothered Pepa. They stopped when they realized that it really hurt her not to look like her siblings.
Bruno was Julieta's guinea pig while she learned to cook. He trusted his sister, and no matter how bad the food looked, he would eat it and be honest about the taste.
Because of this, Bruno actually learned to cook and is really good at it, he just prefers to leave the hard work to his sister.
But he doesn't hesitate to take over if Julieta needs to rest.
Bruno was the baby when they played. Always. Sometimes it was hard for him to know when the game ended because Julieta would treat him like a baby anyway.
He's a gentleman and he was since he was little. He would open the door for his sisters or help them cross puddles or give them the hand when they went down the stairs.
Again, with Pepa more interested in exploring and being independent, Bruno stopped doing it with her, but he always did it for Julieta, even as adults, he still retains those instincts and makes sure to be a total gentleman with her.
Pepa complains about this, saying that he was never "good" to her and that it was obvious who his favorite sister was.
Bruno simply agrees and hugs Julieta while he sticks his tongue out at Pepa.
"As if she wasn't your favorite too" (Yes, yes she is. Julieta is the favorite sister of her two siblings, but they still love each other…in their own way)
Julieta just laughs, but she hugs Bruno back while she smiles evilly at Pepa just to annoy her.
"Mamá!! Your children are evil!!" "I don't remember any of them breaking my vases as kids, tho" "I can't believe this family treats me like this, betrayal after betrayal." (Pepa's the drama queen, you can't change my mind)
Bruno was not very good at school, he was better than Pepa, but he still had a hard time understanding many things. Julieta spent afternoons patiently explaining to him what she had understood.
For that reason, Bruno got used to going to her when he had doubts, even after returning to the family.
Julieta's the secret keeper for both her siblings. In a way, she knows them better than Alma (or Félix in Pepa's case) ever will.
When Julieta felt too pressured by the expectations of her mother and the town, she hid in Bruno's room.
He never questioned it, he simply sat with her, listening to her without interrupting and offering hugs from time to time (he didn't know what else to do).
She knew that she didn't have to be perfect with him, that she could make mistakes, do stupid things, scream, jump, just be herself, without fear of being judged.
Bruno loves those moments. He got used to seeing his older sister as a perfect doll, it was nice to be able to see her being human again.
Julieta was the only person Pepa couldn't beat in a fight (the woman is strong, okay? We don't give her enough credit just because she's the calmest of the triplets), which is why Bruno hid behind her every time Pepa intimidated him.
She cooked whatever she was in the mood to make, but it was more common for her to spoil Bruno with food than her sister and mother. But she would never admit it.
When the grandchildren were born, Julieta's daughters immediately chose him as their favorite "mom's sibling".
"It wasn't enough for you to steal my sister, now you are also taking my nieces from me?!" "Pepa, your cloud!"
When his sisters started dating, instead of trying to seem intimidating, he would simply tell the suitors that if they hurt any of them, he would give them a horrible vision (he knows his gift doesn't work like that, but it was his way of protecting Pepa and Juli).
His favorite niece is Mirabel. No questions, no doubts. I'm not even going to argue this point, I'll just say that she was his favorite from the moment she was born (probably because she looked so much like Julieta and in a way he felt like he could repay her for all the love and care she had for him through Mirabel).
The night he disappeared, the only person he had time to write to was Julieta. He didn't tell her where he was going, he just asked her not to hate him and that he promised her he would be okay. He thanked her for everything she had done for him and said he was sorry for not being the best brother to her.
It was the worst pain Julieta had ever felt. It was as if she had lost one of her babies, and she refused to leave her room for weeks, clinging to that letter.
In the end, only Pepa was able to get her out of there, reminding her that she still had her, and that she needed her. The two became closer in those years because of the fear they had of losing each other too.
Julieta hated her mother and sister's unspoken rule not to talk about Bruno. She hated it with all her soul, but she knew that she couldn't do anything about it if she didn't want to make things worse for Mirabel.
She didn't say anything when Pepa went to vent to her and inevitably ended up cursing Bruno, she simply sat next to her and hugged her, even if she didn't agree with what she said.
Still, she couldn't be mad at Bruno. Hurt, sad and desperate maybe, but never really angry.
She could never hate him, she could not curse his name nor could she harbor resentment in her heart for having left her. He was still her brother and even though she didn't know where he was, she still loved him and refused to say a single bad thing about him.
Bruno not only chose the hiding place near the kitchen because of the free food, but because it is the place where Julieta spent the most time, and being with her (even if she didn't know it) calmed him down and made him feel better.
He sometimes wondered if what he did was worth it, as he listened to Julieta break down little by little.
There's no way in the world Julieta left him out of her sight for more than a few minutes when he returned. There was simply no human power that would make her turn away from him, for fear of losing him again if she looked away.
Bruno didn't care, knowing that he had years to make up for hurting her.
Curiously, rebuilding his relationship with her was more difficult than with Pepa and Alma or anyone else.
Perhaps because he had never been as close to them as he was with his older sister, and it broke his heart to realize that the reason the miracle had broken in the first place was not just because of Alma's expectations on the family, but because he himself had broken the strongest bond he had as well.
It took a few months for them to start trusting each other the same way they had. Bruno had to learn to talk to her freely again, without sounding like he was walking on eggshells around her.
And Julieta had to learn to give him space, to trust that he wouldn't leave again and take his word that she hadn't been the reason he left in the first place, that she really had done enough and more for him.
It was a slow process, but they managed to make it work and that was all that mattered to them.
And that's all for now because I could go on and on about these two and we would never leave this post. I just love them so so much!!! (and Pepa too)

Yandere Reactions: Having a nightmare about their darling getting hurt/losing them
Tumblr media
Julieta Madrigal:
The dream stuck with her for weeks.
She knows it's silly but every time her darlings come to her with a new wound that dream floods back full force.
This then leads to her going just a little overboard when caring and keeping an eye on her darling.
It will start to fade after a few months, but it will be a very…. cautious few months.
Pepa Madrigal:
Like Julieta…. but way more intense.
The dream really put a shock to her system making her gentler with her darling, yet she will be clingier than before.
She is going to drag her darling with her everywhere she goes believing that she can protect them from everything if they are with her.
In truth she knows she can't protect them from EVERYTHING but it's a comfort for her knowing that they are there with her.
Like Julieta, it will take her a while before she starts calming down (although it will be double for her than it would be for Julieta.)
Bruno Madrigal:
He is going to constantly be checking up on them both in person and using his future vision.
He is just a bit calmer since he can see if anything is going to happen or not.
That doesn't mean that he won't be on alert.
Being on edge makes him look into the future more often than needed but it’s a way for him to calm his nerves even if it’s for a short time.
Because of his power he will start to calm down just a bit faster than his sisters yet that doesn't mean he will never stop looking after his darling in his own way.

mirabel headcanons?
Absolutely! Here’s Mirabel headcanons:
Mirabel’s full name is Mirabel Teresa Rojas Madrigal
She is named after Saint Teresa of Ávila
Her birth was a disappointment as everyone had been expecting a boy
As a baby, Mirabel was very easy to please/soothe and didn’t enjoy being fussed over
Her first eleven words were all colours, starting with “purple” for Luisa
She had no interest in walking or crawling, until Agustín accidentally knocked a book off a shelf and she had to move to put it back. This started a long game of Agustín (and later Pepa) throwing books and Mirabel stopping what she was doing to walk over and put them back
Young Mirabel use to cry at mess
Subsequently, she had to eat separately from Camilo
Mirabel had her first eye test after Camilo’s ceremony, as she had been unable to see it
She has myopia in both eyes
The green frames are not for Bruno (who had no relationship with her), they are for Pepa because young Mirabel wanted to have green eyes like her Tía
Agustín taught her to play the piano very early on
Julieta taught her to sew
When stressed, she over cleans - a habit she picked up from her mother
The most popular theory of what her gift would be was sight, ironically. The family figured she was very observant and similar to Dolores, hence similar gifts
As she gets older, she gets mistaken for Julieta more frequently
Like her mother, she’s never had any desire to leave Encanto
Like her father, she burns very easily in the heat and therefore tends to carry around an embroidered parasol (that matches her skirt) during particularly hot days
She is known to be the most intelligent among the Madrigals
The biggest history nerd
Will find a way to make anything into a history lesson. Seriously ANYTHING. Definitely associates particular historical figures with her family members
Mirabel is the biggest bookworm in Encanto
She also has a fondness for philosophy
Her philosophy knowledge can be a bad mix with her overthinking, anxious mind. When she’s anxious or paranoid, her philosophy books are placed on the highest shelves in Casita
She is closest to Luisa
She didn’t start helping with Antonio until he reached the toddler stage/moved into the nursery with her, as she is uncomfortable around babies
She use to read to Antonio when they shared a room, so much that she unintentionally memorised the stories. She use to be able to recount them word for word while they were out and about town to calm him down
She can play the piano and accordion
She loves knitting. Never leaves home without some knitting needles and wool, just in case
She has no interest or skill in making clothes. She just likes the more decorative elements (embellishing), such as embroidery and beading
Probably gets a job as an embellisher in the future
She learnt French for the sole purpose of reading originally French books. She is fluent, as far as reading and writing goes. She is pretty terrible at speaking
She has very bad stage fright and hates public speaking. She also can’t act, like at all. If Tío Bruno or Camilo want her help with a show, she’ll only accept a backstage role
She is the shortest Madrigal and always will be. She uses it as a bragging right, as oppose to a weakness
She is aromantic asexual
She doesn’t want children. Maybe just a cat. Or three…. Or twenty.
Is a real old lady at heart
She has PTSD - that’s pretty self-explanatory
Is a bit of a workaholic, and therefore can be hypocritical to Luisa
Don’t argue with her. She will write an entire six page essay to prove you wrong with full evidence
Does have a habit of needing to be right, she gets it from Dolores
Mirabel does not want to be Alma’s successor

YO IDK IF U TAKE AU REQUESTS BUT WHAT ABOUT AN AU WHERE THE WARM FAMILY AND BLUE FAMILY SWITCH PERSONALITIES!??
Pepa-Julieta
Felix-Agustin
Isabela-Dolores
Luisa-Camilo
Mirabel-Antonio
THE SWITCH UP WOULD BE CRAZYY!?
I DO AND YEAH⁉️⁉️⁉️
Switch up is definitely something 💀 not anything bad, but you know. Different dynamics, some stuff def changed. I also changed some hair and clothes. Nothing major, but I just wanted to <333
Julieta is constantly worrying over people, a little too much, especially Agustín and he always calms her down. Pepa is pretty chill, she always gives the best hugs and calms everyone else down. Felix, he’s so reckless, but like he means well 🗣️🗣️
Isabela is little more closed off, but she’s not nearly as quiet, though it is a little hard to get her to open up. Not as mean to Mirabel. Dolores is basically the opposite to Isabela, and though she doesn’t like invading privacy, she uses her bit more openly, and doesn’t hide from Mariano lol. Luisa likes doing tricks for people (like she did when she first got her gift), and isn’t so much of a prankster as an entertainer. Daredevil maybe??
Camilo uses his gift pretty much strictly to help, he doesn’t really do pranks to be honest. Mirabel is a bit more timid, and though she does help, she’s not as hyper and jumping around; she doesn’t really mention or feel the intense need of wanting to prove herself, mainly cause of Agustín. Antonio, on the other hand, is always jumping around. Like a super hyper five year old basically 💀

Bonus I also swapped Alma with Bruno and Pedro, because I might as well 😭
Bruno is straight forward with his visions, and doesn’t let anyone talk him down, it’s insane. Bro locked in 🦈 Alma is very secretive, especially about the gifts. I think she would’ve even tell the town, she tells the family to use their gifts in secret basically (Bruno is always by her side).
Pedro is a prideful but?? Humble, he cared very deeply for his family, hence why he sacrificed himself. Willing to anything; also a major perfectionist. Alma always tries to see the brighter side of things, and always puts her family first, the miracle is like. Barely even second. (Very similar to canon Mirabel).

7x04 Thoughts
This is a long one, if you read to the end, know that I love you and appreciate you 😂
Obviously, I’ve been a little… unhinged in my reaction/behavior following Buck’s kiss with Tommy (I mean Buck KISSED A BOY!). I’ve been extra annoying to my friends and sending them most (all) my firsts since Buck kissed a boy. It started as something that just made me giggle then it turned into something I was doing cause I knew they (one in particular - if you found me on here you win. Congrats, you know can access my writing) were getting annoyed. It’s been fun for me 🤷🏻‍♀️
ANYWAY…
It’s been a few days and I am moderately more calm about this and I’ve seen plenty of other feedback/commentary on the episode. Thankfully mostly positive, which is amazing ❤️ The negative, some of you need to get over yourself.
The negatives saying this came out of nowhere or it’s part of some “agenda”, I would gentle suggest you rewatch the show and pay closer attention. There has not been anything that was necessarily blatant but there have been several moments over the seasons where there are things said that lead to speculation. Things that always had me thinking “yeah, I could see it.” Stuff that could be brushed off or explained away as a joke if this wasn't the road the writers or Oliver decided to take Buck down. But the moments, also help to support this slower discovery.
If you need some examples:
The first him Buck even sees Eddie, the other man is pulling of his shirt with his and on full display and “Whatta Man” by Salt-N-Pepa is playing. That could be written off as just a manifestation of Bucks insecurities about his place with the 118 and the fire fighter calendar coming up, he’s experiencing issue with his girlfriend too so he’s in a bit of a vulnerable place. But it could also be taken as almost an inner monologue, Buck seeing and appreciating an attractive man. If he wasn’t in touch with his truth, not fully aware of his sexuality or was straight up in some kind of denial, it would also explain his hostility toward Eddie as well. But it can easily be explained away as a sort of completion.
Maddie commenting on Buck’s “boy crush”. Typically a straight man will get at least a little defensive, saying no or it’s not like that or even get a little annoyed at the suggestion. Doesn’t have to be in a toxic way but there will be some sort of protest to the thought or idea they have a “boy crush”. Buck just kind of laughs and says “cute”. Not entirely damn, but makes you wonder. It’s also two siblings messing with each other so I can see where some may over look that moment.
We again have a moment that involves Maddie when Buck, Eddie, and Chimney are helping her move into her new place. She makes a vague comment “he’s cute”, not specifying who she’s talking about but she clearly believes Buck understands who she means. Buck tells her “he gets that a lot, you should see his kid”. Buck was not following what it was Maddie was saying, and he actually seems confused as to why Maddie would think Chimney is cute.
Buck goes with Eddie to bring Christopher to see Santa. They’ve known each other maybe 3 months at this point? It’s hard to know really since we rarely get any sort of dates. Christopher finishes with Santa, comes back to Eddie who picks him up and leaves. The helper elf stops Buck, having seen him walking up with Eddie when he picked up Chris, and says “you two have an adorable son”. An innocent enough mistake, one that most would correct in some way. “Oh he’s not mine” or something to that effect. It’s odd that Buck looks like he’s about to correct her but says a simple “thank you”.
There’s a poker night at Chimneys apartment where Josh and Buck are invited. Josh says “if I didn’t know better I’d think you were trying to set us up” meaning Maddie setting Buck up with Josh. Maddie says she likes Josh too much to do that to him to which Buck gets a little defensive. It’s light, not truly offended and could be brushed off as a joke but it also makes you wonder.
When the 118 is in Texas, TK Strand agrees to meet up with Buck if he’s ever in LA but makes sure to mention that he has a boyfriend and it’s pretty serious. Leaving Buck confused, now here he does look like he might be about to protest but it does also look as if he wants to question TK as to why he felt like he needed to warn him of any potential advances.
Buck himself has said women “flee” him when talking about his relationships.
Times where Bucks attraction to men is touched on, he does not react as you would expect. No it’s not a neon sign saying “Evan Buckley is Bisexual” but it’s enough to have you wonder or see where that could be a potential for him. But also, innocent enough where if his story wasn’t taken there, it’s easily explained. It’s the crumbs of Buck’s story that Oliver has mentioned in interviews about the 100th episode.
The negatives within the positives have been criticizing Bucks claim that he was seeking Tommy’s attention not Eddie’s. And to that I think it was both men whose attention he was looking for.
We see Buck going to Tommy first, and there are certainly some moments there (on both ends) that look a little flirtatious. Buck seems a little nervous for some reason when he asks Tommy out for a beer, and gets more disappointed than most would consider normal when Tommy says he has to take a rain check because he has plans. Eddie shows up, and I think Bucks abandonment issues really start to flair up and this is where I think the confusion begins for him. He was there for Tommy, not even thinking about Eddie (okay he was thinking about Eddie a little bit), but then Eddie shows up and now he's seeing that him and Tommy are building this friendship. Tommy, the person Buck specifically sought out, is leaving with Eddie, Bucks best friend. Buck acts a little strange as the 2 men leave, Tommy telling him he’ll take him up in the helicopter and Buck says something like “yeah I’ll do that … sometime” like he’s shy about it, stuttering and even looking like he's about to blush. He’s just acting weird. He was there to see Tommy but Tommy’s attention is on Eddie because they’ve made plans.
Eddie starts talking about the time he’s been spending with Tommy, the person who Buck had wanted to get to know and hasn’t been able to reconnect with for one reason or another. But, now he’s also seeing his best friend is connecting with a new person who has some of the same interests as him, his insecurities digging their claws in even more. He gets excited when Eddie asks if he’s free the night of the karaoke trivia, thinking he’ll be included in this outing with his best friend and this new person he’s been hoping to get to know only to be completely disappointed when asked if he could babysit. This feels like more of a brush off, and I’m sure Buck takes it that way.
Buck complains about Tommy to Maddie in a way that’s very elementary school; I wouldn’t be surprised if he threw rocks at him. He can’t stop talking about Tommy, everything about him bugs him. Finding out about the basketball game, a game Eddie has BEEN inviting Buck too, has him starting to spiral. Eddie’s been going to these games, building friendships with the other first responders who go and it hasn’t been an issue. But when Tommy’s shown to be going, it’s an issue. Because Buck wants Tommy's attention, he doesn't care about the other people going to the game or even the fact that Eddie goes to these games every other week without him. If Tommy's there, he need to be there too.
Buck showing off in the gym, letting out a loud breath and grunting to get Eddie to notice him, was about getting Eddie’s attention focused on him, sure but also if Eddie is focused on him he’s not focusing on Tommy who he seemed to be talking with on the phone. It would also be the chance he needs to try to insert himself in whatever activity the 2 are planning next, which would bring Buck BACK into Tommy’s orbit.
Buck shows up with Chimney to the pickup game. I think Buck's waring with himself throughout the episode about what is actually bothering him. Eddie finding a new best friend is certainly one thing I have no doubt he’s concerned about. But he’s also trying to figure out why he can’t get himself in front of Tommy, he’s doing all the wrong things to try and get this persons attention on him to be given a chance. It makes sense, with his childhood, that his brain thought acting out was the best approach to gain the attention that he was seeking (I mean, it worked). I don’t think he intended to HURT Eddie just knock him over or make him stumble. He’s looking to impress this person he hasn’t even been able to have a conversation with again since he took off to Vegas. Eddie has just taken the ball from him and Buck just snapped.
I think Buck kept trying to find a ways to get himself in front of Tommy, but essentially Eddie was getting in the way. But he also was seeing his best friend find this person he could relate to in a a whole new way. So Buck was battling with himself and genuinely could not figure out what it was he was trying to do or accomplish with his antics.
I see a lot of people saying Buck was never trying to get Tommy’s attention, that it was all about Eddie. Eddie was Buck's pass to Tommy in a way, he was trying to get himself in front of Eddie so Eddie would extend an invite to an activity he was doing with Tommy. Maybe he even hoped Eddie would talk him up a little. Getting Eddie’s attention meant getting Tommy’s too.
I also don’t know that Buck was conscious of his desire to have Tommy’s attention and that talking through the whole thing in the kitchen was what lead him to figuring it out. I recently had a moment like that myself. I was in a negative headspace but I could not for the life of me figure out what it was that was causing it. Talking with a friend, stuff started to just kind of come out and all of a sudden it clicked. It hadn’t know until that moment what was going on. It seems to me that it was very likely Buck simply thought that he was jealous of his best friend finding a new friend but through talking it out, he realized “oh, maybe it was him I wanted to see me”.
There was plenty of flirting, I think Buck is just a naturally flirty person. But there was a moment where it seemed to really switch, right when he said that he didn’t know Muay Thai. I thought things seemed to shift between them when they were just a couple feet apart but when they talked about Muay Thai, I knew there had to be something coming.
I still very much ship Buddie, and hope they find their way together, but this to me was just so much more satisfying so see unfold rather then it jumping right to Buck and Eddie together. Honestly that might have been weird, that sudden jump. Prior to the 100th episode it was canon that both Buck and Eddie had only dated women, or at least that all we saw. Their sexuality needed to be addressed, there needed to be confirmation that at least one of them is interested in men. At this point I don’t know that Buck is even aware that he has feelings for Eddie (and I do think he has feelings for him). He never knew he was allowed to have feelings for a man let alone his best friend. I think once he settles more within this new self of his, he’ll slowly start to realize that he no longer sees Eddie as JUST a friend.
I still have hope for Buddie, I could see there being some very strong canon hints this season, things that aren't up for debate. Maybe Eddie has a conversation with someone who’s not Buck and he comes to a realization of his own, or there’s a moment shared at the end of the season. I think there’s a possibility for a strong build up for Buddie with it actually happening by episode 3 or 4 in season 8.
But if it doesn't, I'm okay with that too. I want to see where things go with Tommy and what comes after for Buck. I could see the show runners leaving things with just Buck being Bi, it was a huge thing for them to take a main male character like Buck and give this coming out arc. Will they be willing to take another risk with Eddie? I don't know that they would do that this season, but they've certainly opened the possibility with 1/2 of the ship being queer now.

____________
I'm excited to finish writing Chapter 18 because there's a lot happening as Buck and Eddie get closer to their secret wedding day.
For anyone who hasn't read Chapter 17, here's a brief overview: Eddie and Chimney were in an accident and as expected, Buck didn't take it well but he had Eddie's back like he said he would and he took care of everything. After almost two weeks, Buck finally received a response from his bio dad but it wasn't the type of response he expected and Chris asked Eddie what would happen to him if Eddie would have died in the accident. He told him about the legal guardianship and the fact that Buck's moving in but they didn't tell him the rest.
They'll tie the knot before Christmas 2023 but they are NOT getting married in the U.S. and they won't have a wedding ceremony until May 2024. They revealed their relationship, their engagement and the fact that they're going to Europe to their found family during the 118's Thanksgiving dinner but they didn't tell them everything. No one knows they're getting married in six weeks, not even Chris because they haven't told him yet.
Who are they going to reveal their relationship, engagement and European vacation to in Chapter 18?
___________
Here's a snippet from Chapter 18 of Buck and Eddie being romantically fluffy.
___________
It’s the morning of Thanksgiving Day and Buck’s the only one in the house who’s awake.  He’s staring at the ceiling and as he lightly traces his fingertips up and down Eddie’s back, he tries to calm his nerves as best he can.  He glances at the clock again, sees it’s 3:02AM and deeply inhales.
When he feels Eddie stir, he figures he felt him slightly move because he lifts his head and in his sleep laden voice, he asks, “What’s wrong?”
He kisses his forehead and replies, “Nothing, I’m ok.  Just go back to sleep and I’ll wake you up in a few hours”.
He knows something’s wrong because Buck’s awake at dark o’clock in the morning and he can tell by the sound of his voice that he’s been up for a while since he can’t hear the faint sound of a British accent when he talks like he usually does.
He runs his thumb over Buck’s bottom lip and whispers, “My love… I can’t go back to sleep because if you’re awake then I’m going to be awake too so… talk to me and tell me what’s wrong.”
He meets Eddie’s eyes and admits, “Honestly, I’m kind of nervous.  I just hope everyone else in your family likes me”.
He can see the trepidation behind those ocean blue eyes he loves so much and he can see the nervousness in his small smile.  He knows he’s serious about wanting all the Diazes to like him and he didn’t have to say a name for him to know who he meant when he said, “everyone else”.  He was talking about his mother since she walked out of Tia Pepa’s living room when they told her and Ramon they’re in a relationship and they’re engaged to be married.
His dad is happy for them and so are his sisters, his abuela and his aunt and they all said they had been waiting for the day when they would finally admit they’re in love.  Since they all saw it, he can’t understand why his mother didn’t or maybe refused to see it too.  His younger self would have cared but the man he is today doesn’t give a rat’s ass about what his mother thinks because his only concern is for his fiancé and their son.
“My dad, my sisters, my abuela and my aunt already love you.”  He places a soft kiss onto his chest and continues, “And the ones you’ll meet today are going to love you too”.
“I just wish… you were going to be there with me and Chris.  I—I mean I um… know you have to work and you’ll be there after your shift but babe… they’re your family and what—what if they don’t like me?”
“Not only will they like you; they're going to love you because I love you.  You’re mine and Chris’ family which means you’re already part of the Diaz family.  We’re just making everything official in 24 days when we get married and we become Mr. and Mr. Diaz.”  Eddie replies as he moves up so his face can be right in front of his fiancé’s.  He caresses his cheek then he leans in and places a gentle kiss onto his lips.
After they pull apart, Buck beams a big smile and says, “You’re biased because you love me”.
“You’re right I do and I’m also in love with you so I can afford to be biased.”  He replies with a big smile of his own then he kisses him again but this time, the kiss is long, deep and slow.  It’s syrupy sweet and filled with passion and flashes of their future as husbands.
Buck’s gasping and moaning like he can’t get enough and the truth is, he can’t. Eddie's his everything and whenever they kiss like they are right now with their tongues tangled and their bodies pressed together, it settles something deep inside of him.
What will happen at Tia Pepa's when Buck and Chris spend Thanksgiving Day with them while Eddie's at work?👀
___________
Fic Summary: Months after Buck and Eddie were hit by the same lightning strike; they’re still struggling with the aftermath of it.  But before they make their love confessions, they’ll spend time getting to know themselves as individuals first. Eddie learns to enjoy the simple things in life as he participates in activities on his own and with new friends while Buck learns the rest of the 31-year-old deep dark family secret about his conception and birth. Their journey to forever is still a work in progress but once they finally admit they’re in love with each other, everything that follows their love confessions will be cataclysmic.

Chapter 17 - As Buck and Eddie get closer to departing Los Angeles for their international adventure, a moment in time will remind them; life is fragile, tomorrow isn’t promised and every second of everyday should be cherished because everything can change in an instant.  The result of that realization will cause them to hold onto each other even more.

Hii! I just started reading ur stuff and love it!❤️❤️
So if u dont mind can u do one where antonio wanders off with his animals and its up to mirabel and the rest of the family to find him?
Thanks!! Keep it up love these😍😍❤️
Hi, thank you so much! I appreciate that a lot! I'm sorry this took so long...I've had some writer's block but hopefully it's over now. Hope you like this!
Dinnertime in the Madrigal family tended to be a chaotic affair. With the various family members busy helping around town or running errands all day, it was a wonder they could eat together at all. But Alma insisted, and Julieta agreed, that they should try to eat together as a family. So, one way or another, they’d find their way back to their casita by dinnertime.
Usually, this involved some level of hunting people down. The Madrigals would rarely all be congregated at home by the time dinner rolled around, as their gifts and abilities were useful around town. Demand for them to use their gifts for others’ benefit had definitely lessened since they got their gifts back; the townspeople had learned how to take care of many things independently in the intervening months and were trying to keep it that way. But there were always new parents who needed rest and appreciated Camilo’s babysitting services for a stint. Or farmers needing some intervention when inclement weather struck. Or people with grave injuries in need of healing (Julieta and Isabela had taken it upon themselves to teach people some more basic healing techniques using plants and herbs after realizing just how burned out the two of them were). Or those stubborn donkeys that just kept getting out…
By the time Julieta announced dinner was ready, the kitchen was usually abuzz with inquiries as to people’s whereabouts and requests to get them back home, all overlapping in glorious cacophony.
“Dolores, go find your brother.”
“Where is he, mamá?”
“I’m not sure…last I heard he was helping señor Gonzalez who threw out his back fix his roof.”
“Wait, why wouldn’t Luisa help?”
“I think she was dealing with some other crisis at the time- where is Luisa anyway?”
“I’m right here, tía, what’s going on?”
“We’re looking for Camilo.”
“Well you found him!”
“Ay, Milo, that isn’t funny! You’re gonna give your poor mamá a heart attack!”
“Camilo, stop changing into your cousins.”
“Sorry, papá…”
“We still don’t know where Luisa is.”
“I’m right here, tía.”
“That’s not funny, Camilo.”
“I’m over here, mamá.”
“Ayyyy, who else is still missing?”
“Well, Antonio was helping me with the donkeys, is he back yet?”
“Antonio!”
Everyone stopped running abruptly, bumping into each other. Camilo winced, rubbing his forehead which had unfortunately hit Luisa’s side in the mayhem. Isabela picked up the shards of the plate she broke after colliding with Dolores. The latter mumbled an awkward apology, cradling her own elbow gingerly. Mirabel was off to the side, assessing the damage. Thankfully, the food had been spared, but otherwise the kitchen looked like a tornado had passed through it.
Judging by Pepa’s erratic breathing, this wasn’t out of the realm of possibility. She leaned against the counter, gripping it so tightly her knuckles turned white, and squeezed her eyes shut. A breeze batted around the loose tendrils of her hair as she tried desperately to calm herself.
“Antonio was helping you with the donkeys?” She repeated weakly, fanning her face with her hand.
Luisa nervously shifted her weight from one foot to the other. “Yeah. It was his idea actually. He figured it would be easier to corral the donkeys if he talked to them rather than having me carry them around town.” She stretched her arm carefully, groaning after a point. “I ran into him after finishing up moving the bridge, again, and he could see my shoulder was hurting me, so he volunteered to take care of the donkeys himself.”
Julieta let out a soft gasp, covering her open mouth with her hand. “You got hurt, Lu? Why didn’t you say anything, querida?” Turning around, she rummaged around the basket by the door and fished out a buñuelo. “Here.” She held it out towards her daughter.
Luisa shrugged, accepting the proffered food and taking a bite. She gave her arm another tentative stretch, sighing in relief when she could actually stretch it all the way. “Thanks, mamá. I guess I didn’t think it was that bad? I figured I’d just take some of your food later, like I always do,” she added as an afterthought.
“Like you always-“ Julieta started incredulously, but was interrupted by Pepa holding up her hand.
“Luisa, I’m sorry you got hurt, and you shouldn’t be trying to hide it, but right now my son is missing.” She clapped her hands to emphasize her point. “Can we continue this conversation after we’ve found him?”
Julieta nodded her acquiescence, but her lips pressed together in a thin line. “We’ll talk about this later, Luisa,” she said, wrapping an arm around her waist. “Let’s go find Antonio.”
Haphazardly, the Madrigals made their way outside and followed Luisa as she led them through town.
“Okay, last I saw him was by señor Martinez’s house, but he was heading towards the runaway donkeys, which were by the church,” Luisa narrated to herself, turning decisively to the right.
“It makes a lot more sense for Antonio to deal with them, seeing as he can just talk to them,” Mirabel commented. “Why did anyone even think it was a good idea to make you haul them around on your back when Antonio could just convince them to go home?”
“Because they are tontos who don’t think, just like they can’t fix that stupid gate once and for all so the donkeys stop getting out in the first place,” Pepa muttered under her breath darkly, nostrils flaring as she continued marching under her heavy cloud.
“Ay, Pepa, don’t speak like that,” Alma scolded halfheartedly. “We should be kind to our neighbors.”
“They can start by being kind and not sending my children on fool’s errands. Then I’ll reconsider striking their yards with a lightning bolt. Idiotas…” Pepa kept up a steady stream of curses and insults under her breath, crossing her arms tightly over her chest.
“She has a point, mamá.” Julieta placed her hand on Alma’s shoulder gently. “That gate has been loose for ages and no one has bothered to fix it. Wouldn’t it be much easier to fix it once than to ask us to bring the donkeys back all the time?”
“The town has kind of been taking advantage of the Madrigal gifts now that they’re back,” Agustín pointed out quietly. “Running to the family for help anytime something goes even slightly wrong. I try not to, but even I go to Julieta more often than I should.” He looked down in shame.
“Shh, amor, it’s not your fault you’re so allergic to bees.” Julieta patted his cheek affectionately. “Or that you keep finding them.”
“They’re everywhere!”
“He is right though.” Félix spoke up. He held Pepa protectively in his arms as they walked. “How many times do people ask for Luisa’s help instead of trying to figure out another way? And how often would people beg Bruno for visions rather than just plan their lives? Or ask you to heal the smallest of injuries? I get that paper cuts can be annoying but they’re not so bad to need magical healing, ¿eh?” He raised his hands with a chuckle, trying to lighten the mood.
“I suppose you’re right…” Alma trailed off, frowning.
“And what about Isa, having to conjure up plants all the time?” Mirabel chimed in. “Or Camilo, pulling babysitting duty constantly? Dolores, always having to keep an ear out for news? And poor tía Pepa! Anytime the weather isn’t what people want, she’s expected to make it up. ‘Make it sunny, make it rain, we don’t care how, just make it happen!’” She imitated mockingly. “Is it any wonder she made a hurricane on her wedding day?”
“I’m about to make a hurricane right now if we don’t find Antonio soon,” Pepa threatened. “Luisa, he has to have brought the donkeys back by now. Why don’t we check back there?”
“Good idea, tía,” she responded, but exchanged an uneasy glance with her mother, eyes darting towards the lightning now lining Pepa’s cloud. Clearly the two agreed that it would not be a good idea to bring Pepa within striking distance of the donkeys’ enclosure.
By this point, night had begun to fall. Pepa’s anxiety became even more palpable; wringing her hands and breaking away from the group, walking briskly in front of them. She stopped abruptly, narrowly avoiding another multi-Madrigal collision. “Dolores. Can you try to hear where he is?”
Dolores furrowed her brow. “I can try. It’s noisy tonight though. I’ll need to focus.”
“Please, Lola.” Pepa begged, shaking her shoulder. “I realize we ask too much of you, of each other really, but this is important.”
“I didn’t say I wouldn’t do it. I just said it’s noisy.” Dolores closed her eyes and screwed up her face, concentrating. “I can make out his voice. It’s coming from that direction.” She pointed.
“By the river?” Alma sounded doubtful. “Why would he go there?” A shadow passed over her face.
Dolores shrugged. “It can be a nice place to go think.”
“You like to go there too?” Isabela asked her curiously.
Dolores nodded. “Wait, ‘too’? You go to the river?”
“I like to look at the plants. Ones I don’t have to create. They’re beautiful.”
“It’s calm and peaceful there,” Julieta said. “Away from the hustle and bustle of town…”
“No one telling you how to feel...”
“No one telling you what to do…”
“You can just…exist.” Mirabel exhaled.
Alma stared at all of them in turn. “Are you telling me all of you like to go to the river? And you never ran into each other?”
“I’d go when I didn’t hear anyone there,” Dolores explained.
“I preferred to go in the early mornings,” Julieta admitted.
“And I’d go late at night,” Pepa added.
“I’d go when people were too busy to notice I was gone.” Isabela shrugged.
“Me too, except it was easier for me. No one really cared if I was gone.”
A heavy silence hung after Mirabel’s admission.
“Mira…” Julieta brushed the hair out of her face. “You know that’s not true, right? Of course we care. Ay, after Casita fell, I almost died of worry.” She shuddered at the memory.
“I know, mamá.” Mirabel smiled at her reassuringly. “Things were different before though.”
“As much as I love this touching moment, can we go find Antonio now?” Pepa cut in, a frantic edge to her voice. “It’s dark, and he’s all by himself.” She started walking again, and the rest followed suit.
“Maybe not.” Dolores tilted her head towards the river. “Someone is with him. I hear him talking with Antonio.”
“Ay, Dios…” Pepa ground her teeth. “Mi pobrecito Antonio, out there all alone with no one to protect him.”
“From tío Bruno?” Dolores laughed. “That’s who’s with him, you know.”
“Wait.” Everyone did a double take. “He’s not with us?”
“How did we all miss that?” Agustín wondered.
“He wasn’t with us at home either,” Félix observed.
“I guess we’re not used to him being back yet?” Mirabel offered in explanation. “Since none of us noticed he wasn’t here?”
“He also liked to sneak off before he…” Alma cleared her throat. “Sometimes I thought his gift was invisibility, the way he’d just disappear.”
Pepa pressed on, undeterred. “Come on, guys. We’re almost there.”
“You heard the lady!” Félix waved his hand as he bounded over the hill and joined Pepa in running down to the riverbank.
Antonio was indeed there, with some very strange company. Bruno sat on the ground, cross-legged, and an assortment of creatures surrounded them. Half a dozen rats danced on what appeared to be a makeshift stage. A couple capybaras were chilling in the water. And, as always, Antonio’s jaguar, Parce, lounged lazily nearby.
“Antonio!” Pepa exclaimed, nearly tackling the child as she enveloped him in her arms.
“Mamá! What are you doing here?” Antonio asked curiously.
“Ay Toñito, we’ve been looking for you for so long! You missed dinner, and it’s dark out now.” She peppered his face with kisses aggressively, pulling away suddenly. “What were you thinking?”
“I didn’t realize it had gotten so late,” Antonio defended, wiping his face off with his arm. “Tío Bruno and I came down here after I finished helping Luisa with the donkeys- which took like half an hour. Those donkeys sure are stubborn!” He shook his head in disbelief. “Anyway, I ran into tío Bruno who was coming down here and wanted me to join him.”
Pepa blinked slowly, eyes drifting from one to the other, trying to absorb all this information. “And the animals?” She asked weakly.
“They just follow me around wherever I go,” Antonio stated matter-of-factly. “Check it out, tío Bruno wrote a new play, and we’ve been rehearsing it together!”
“We?” Félix asked, quirking an eyebrow.
“Me and the animals, of course. Well, I’m mostly helping tío Bruno direct, but I think the rats have a good grasp on their parts now.”
The older Madrigals stifled a laugh at his precociousness.
“That’s great, Antonio!” Mirabel smiled at him encouragingly.
“Do you guys want to see?” He looked up at them expectantly. Bruno swiveled around to join him as the rats continued tap dancing across the stage.
“We-“ Everyone looked around, unsure how to respond. Luckily, they were spared the trouble.
Camilo’s stomach gurgled loudly. “Antonio, hermanito, you aren’t the only one who missed dinner. We kind of all missed dinner looking for you.”
“Milo!” Pepa looked at him reproachfully.
“What? It’s true! I’m not supposed to say things that are true? Obviously we were gonna look for you if you’re missing, but we did all miss dinner.”
“He is right, tía.” Luisa spoke up, almost bashfully. “It’s way past dinnertime.”
“Maybe we should all head back and eat,” Julieta suggested. “Then you can show us the play once all our tummies are full.”
“Okay…” Antonio started walking reluctantly. “Come on, Parce.” He waved the jaguar over.
“Oh, he is not coming back with us,” Pepa proclaimed. “Absolutely not.”
“But mamááá, he doesn’t want to be away from me. He’s like my pet.”
“Some people have dogs. You have a jaguar.” Pepa shook her head, rubbing circles over her temples. “Fine,” she relented finally. “But he is not sitting with us at the table.”
“Of course not,” Antonio agreed.
Pepa blinked, not expecting this to be so easy. “Good,” she said firmly.
“He’s too big to fit anyway,” Antonio reasoned. “Now the capybaras…”
“No animals at the table!”
“Not even the toucan?”
“Antonio!”

Out of Control
Madrigal!reader x Pepa + Dolores (platonic!)
Tumblr media
You couldn’t really figure out what was going on. Everyone seemed angry or confused, and the argument at the dinner table just made everything worse. You tried to suppress how frightened you felt but you made your glass of water overflow, which soon spread to everyone else’s glasses overflowing as well, creating a small puddle of water on the ground.
Your mother, Pepa, gave you a sharp warning look, a thick black cloud appearing above her head. This was why you tried to bottle up everything you felt inside you. Your mother was so emotional so no one had an inch of room to deal with yours as well. You had to hide it from everyone, pretend to be calm and stoic when underneath you were anything but.
Sat with your eyes screwed up as tightly as possible, hands over your ears, you tried to block out everyone until you suddenly heard your sister Dolores' voice and for a moment everything was silent. Reluctantly you lowered your hands and opened your eyes, only to receive a drop of water in them from the rain that your mother was beginning to produce. The awkwardness in the air felt electrified, and before you could add your growing puddle to your mother's storm, you fled to your room.
There you stayed, lying on your back on your bed which was a little rowing boat filled with blankets and pillows until the door to your room opened by itself and you heard raised voices coming through. Soon you found Mirabel and Abuela arguing, with other members of your family also making their way to see what was going on.
Everyone seems out of control, some of your family like Isabela had stronger powers, and some like Luisa were losing theirs. You felt the rumble as a large crack formed in the foundations of Casita, and you couldn't hide your distress any longer. Water gushed out from where you stood, your fear of not being in control of anything in your life anymore only hastened the flood that was being conjured.
Your tumultuous waves helped Mirabel get up to the candle, but in the chaos as Casita came crashing down you got your leg stuck on part of the crumbling wall and you got sucked under by your whirlpool of water. You struggled as best you could, coughing and spluttering when the waves gave you just enough time to take a breath.
Exhaustion soon set in as you fought against your own gift, and you eventually went under the water and didn't come back up again. Casita lay in ruins and the family were desperately wading through your flood water to try and find Mirabel. Dolores, however, quickly noticed that you weren't among the remainder of your family members and called out to you.
With the loss of your powers the water had calmed down, as you emotions were no longer conjuring more or controlling the rough waves. Realising this, you held your breath as long as possible while raising your arms to break above the water and thrash about, desperately hoping Dolores would hear or see your movement.
"We're coming!" Dolores called out as soon as she spotted it, grabbing Pepa's arm and dragging her along. "Keep waving, Y/N! We're almost there!" Your mother was now wading through the murky waters quicker than Dolores, both of them trying their best to reach you in time.
Your waves began to slow as you ran out of air, you arms soon sinking back down into the water as the bubbles from the breath you so valiantly held rushed up to the surface. "No! Hold on!" Pepa cried out, using her arms to blindly fish around for a part of you.
Her fingers soon clumsily grasped your arm and she began to try and tug you free from your watery grave, Dolores soon joining in and helping. Luckily, it did not take long with the pair of them working together to set you free.
You breached the surface of the water and immediately coughed up the water that had began to enter your throat. Pepa rubbed your back soothingly, trying to help you hack up all the water you had swallowed. She was slightly impaired by Dolores grasping you firmly in a hug. "Don't you dare ever do that again, Y/N." Dolores whispered in your ear. "I'll try not to, hermana." You replied, your eyes overflowing with tears.
The following days were scary, and you struggled to continue life and help rebuild Casita without your powers. Soon, however, Casita was rebuilt, the magic was restored and your water manipulation soon returned. Once the celebrations were over, your mother pulled you aside for a quiet chat in her room. It was a well overdue discussion about both you own and her emotions, and how they could both be felt and controlled in a way that didn't suppress them. The knowledge of how to use your emotions to your advantage unlocked a whole new ability in you, and the knowledge that it was okay to release your emotion gave you the new lease of life you never knew you needed.

A — Aftercare
what are they like after sex?
Julieta is the absolute queen of aftercare and will go full mother hen to make sure that you’re okay — even if your session was pretty vanilla. She’ll grab a warm, damp cloth and clean you up whilst talking to you in the absolute most calming voice — asking how you feel, if you’re hurting anywhere, if you had fun and if you need anything. If you need a bath to relax your muscles or because you feel grimy, then she’ll run one with your favourite scented candles and might even clean you herself. If your muscles are aching then she’ll give you a massage and hum her favourite songs in a tone that has you drifting off. And if you’re hungry or injured then she’ll grab you something that she made earlier and tend to you whilst you eat. Honestly, she’s the most attentive partner you could ask for.
B — Body Part
what is their favourite part of themselves and their partner?
Whilst she is very humble by nature, Julieta does hold a specific fondness for her hands. They’re thin and soft — softer than one would expect for the family’s main cook — and they’re what allows her to help and to heal people. But she’s also incredibly skilled at using those hands to show affection (cuddling, caressing and playful slapping) as well as to pleasure you, which are also both points towards her appreciation for them.
For her part, though, she isn’t shy about expressing her partialism towards…
(Fem!) your stomach! Whether it’s flat or soft, muscular or defined by a pouch, Julieta just adores your stomach. She’ll take every opportunity she gets to kiss or touch or grope it — bonus points if you’re slightly softer since she just takes it as a sign you love her food. If you wear a dress or some underwear that shows off your stomach then she’s as good as a puddle on the floor, unable to stop herself from staring — much to the amusement of her siblings (namely Pepa, who will never let her live it down).
(Masc!) your hands! Julieta isn’t fussed about whether your fingers are long or short, whether your hands are soft or calloused, nor whether they’re hairy or not. She just enjoys the quiet intimacy of holding hands and having your hands on her waist whilst you’re being silly and in love: dancing in the town centre, swaying together whilst she cooks, cuddling in bed, etc. But she also appreciates how your hands look in hers whilst you’re making love, how they feel on her bare skin as you explore her body as if it’s the first time, and how they feel inside of her or when you’re toying with her clit. So, yeah, she’s generally just a big fan of your hands.
(Neutral!) your thighs! Julieta is a simple woman: she sees your bare thighs and she loses the ability to think about anything other than being between them and making love to you. All it takes is a pair of short shorts or a short dress and she’s gone: mouth agape, at a loss for words, just staring and getting hotter by the minute until Pepa clears her throat and brings her back down to earth. During sex she’ll pay particularly close attention to your thighs, irrespective of how large or small they are: kissing, playfully nipping at them, groping them and using them to steady herself as she pleasures you. And if you happen to wear thigh highs, then you’d best prepare for a long and tiring night — and hope that the others in casita can cook something at least edible for themselves because Julieta is going to be busy.
(Trans Masc!) your hands! The look and feel of your hands aren’t what attracts her to them — but she’s more than happy to reassure you if you’re at all dysphoric about them looking or feeling ‘too feminine’ — so much as it’s what they represent to her on an emotional level. Looking at your hands, depending on her mood, can either make her smile softly as she recalls domestic memories (running hand in hand back to casita after a bad outburst from Pepa, feeding each other fruits and other foods in the kitchen, cooking together, cuddling in her room whilst stargazing, etc.), or leave her flustered and unable to look you in the eye as she flashes back to some less than family friendly experiences she’s had with your hands (them on her chest and her hips, you holding her down, your fingers inside of her, your thumb on her clit, pulling her dress up to take her from behind, etc.). So, in a word, she really, really likes your hands.
(Trans Fem!) your stomach! Soft, muscular, flat or large, Julieta can’t help but stare at your stomach. She adores how it feels beneath her hands and her lips and she’ll take every opportunity you grant her to show you just how much she appreciates this part of you. She also notices how it changes as you transition, impacted by things such as hrt, and she’ll take her time to explore and worship your stomach as these changes take place.
T — Toys
do they own any toys? do they use them on their partner?
She actually owns a few toys and is happy to use them on you, or let you use them on her — though she wouldn’t mention them without you bringing the idea up first. This collection includes: several dildos and strap-ons of varying length and thickness, a few paddles and two vibrators.

“I wanna show you something.”
Bruno gently took your hand and pulled you up the staircases in his room. All of them. After a few months of dating and having become a social outcast in town, you grew weird and a little more distant, sometimes going a full day without letting go of Bruno’s hand. And he was very sweet; squeezing your hand and making sure you were okay.
There were days where you would blankly stare at the walls and didn't eat a thing. You had a small breakdown in the bathtub once where Bruno found you, soaked and wrinkled from hours in the water. "y/n?" You hadn't answered him, simply took his hand and held it to your wet cheek. He'd climbed into the bathtub with you, cleaning your back and braiding your hair until you felt calm enough to get out again. You tried to feel Bruno near as much as possible. He was your anchor - he was your haven through this all.
You climbed the stairs and for the first time in your life, you saw the opening to Bruno’s cave. “Are we going in there?” you asked him but he shook his head. To the side, there was a small hole in the ceiling, the evening wind blowing through it. You followed Bruno as he grabbed some stones and hoisted himself up on the roof. “I am actually – kind of sorry, like I always wanted to eh, to show you this place. It’s where I went when things got a little bit too much for me.”
On the roof there were several pillows and matrasses, as the view was of a million stars in the sky. You mouthed a little ‘wow’ as you sat down. The whole floor was just a soft pillow to lie down in and gaze up to the sky. “What if it rains?” You ask as you take off your sandals and sit down cross-legged on the floor. Bruno sits down behind you, wrapping his hands around your waist and resting his chin on your shoulder. “Casita always puts a little glass roof over it whenever Pepa has had a bad day. That way, it still feels like you’re outside in the rain without actually getting wet.”
You chuckled. “The stars are beautiful tonight.”
“They are,” he answered after which he pointed to the sky. You followed his finger with your eyes. “Those two,” he said, “the ones that don’t shine so bright.”
You did indeed see two little stars, side by side, that were very dim and sad compared to all the other brilliant crystals shining down on you. “That’s us,” he whispered. You laughed and let your back rest against his chest. “We are pretty pathetic compared to the rest of this family.” He pressed a kiss against your neck and you let the feeling tingle through your body. “Yeah,” he chuckled as he tickled you in your side, “we’re so sad.”
You laughed and tickled him back and for a moment; you were teenagers again – tickling and laughing and playing as you rolled over the roof, throwing one pillow after the next. One landed in his face and he pretended to get knocked out. When you rushed to him to check if he was okay, he grabbed you tight and flung you around. You felt carelessly happy again, maybe the first time in months. “My name is Hernando,” he said, pitching his voice lower than it actually was. You rolled over with laughter from this persona. He raised his arms all creepily as the hood concealed his face. “I am not afraid of you. I’m not afraid of anything!”
You put your face behind your shawl, looking like a mighty sorcerer, or something and laughed like an evil witch. “And my name is Nina, I’m a witch and I’m not afraid of the fearless Hernando!”
Then he attacked you, pushing you down to the ground as he pretended to eat you. You both laughed so hard, your stomach physically hurt. He had pinned you to the ground though. He had won the game. After you had laughed your laughs, Bruno also realized he had pinned you. You took his neck and pulled him nearer for a kiss. He wasn’t pulling away, instead, he let his body melt over yours, letting his fingers run through your hair as he kissed little kisses on your mouth and your eyes and your neck and – wow.
He eventually raised his arms and took off his poncho with a little struggle. You lay a hand on his leg. “What are you doing?” You asked as he also unbuttoned his shirt with fidgeting hands. He stopped with what he’s doing and looks at you questioningly. “I just – I thought that-”
“But are you sure?” You ask him. He’s expressed multiple times that he doesn’t need it. That he’s fine without all of that in our relationship. You feel your ears turning red. He nods softly. “I feel like – I don’t know. I want you to see me. Without boundaries or something.” He sniffed. “I’m just eh… I’m not really sure what I’m supposed to do.”
He strokes your face and you stroke his after which you climb out from under him and take the position he had over you. His giant eyes watch you intently as you take off your dress. You both feel it, the electricity in the stars and between you. You lean forward and kiss him like he kissed you, on his eyes, his mouth – you bit his ear slightly. You have no idea what you’re doing either, but after lots of fumbling and giggles, you unbuckle his belt and help him pull down his pants. “You’re so pretty,” you whisper, the words making him whine as he fixed his eyes on everything you were doing. You knew he loved those little compliments, had him eating right out of your palm.
“y/n,“ he almost whined, rutting up against you as your fingers trailed along the waist band of his underpants. His fingers ghosted over yours, a testing press that made you gasp. “So wet,“ he said mostly to himself. You helped him tug down the last scraps of clothing and took off yours as he sat upright, instantly kissing you again once you were near. You sat on his lap, letting your fingers curl through his hair as he nudged his leg up against your now bare cunt as you rocked against him.
“Bruno“ you said breathlessly, pulling away and holding his face in your hands “need you. Need you right now.“
That breathy whimper left his lips again and it seemed to urge him forward. He turned you over with far too much care but you’d expect nothing less from him, before hoisting you up on a square-like couch in the corner. You shivered slightly, the cool untouched fabric of the pillows a stark contrast to the warmth of his lap.
His lips were on you again, but only briefly.
“Can I taste you? “ he asked, eyes wide and practically pleading. You almost moaned just at the idea, nodding perhaps a little too enthusiastically at his request.
“Yes. Yes Bruno please…” He pressed another kiss to your lips before dropping onto his knees, never letting his hands leave you. He pulled you to the edge of the couch and carefully pushed your legs apart.
His eyes didn’t leave you once as he pressed soft, wet kisses to your thighs. You clenched around nothing just at the sight. This man would be the death of you. Your breath hitched in your throat as he drew closer, his own hot breath fanning over you and making you shiver again. His fingers carefully spread you apart, his nose brushing against your clit. Your head fell back with a soft whine.
“Bruno…“ he was still watching you intently as he licked a slow stripe between your folds, eliciting the most beautiful sounds from your mouth.
“So good,” he mumbled against you, confidence seemingly drowning him as he began to devour you as if you were his final meal. He’d never done this before, you’d never felt this before. But it was heavenly. You were now quite certain that to please you, he’d quite happily give you orgasm after orgasm without even bothering about himself. He’d go at it for hours, making you come over and over until you physically couldn’t take it anymore.
“Fuck- Bruno-” you gasped, hands sliding into his hair and tugging on his curls.
When he slowly slid a finger into you, you moaned so loud they probably heard you two floors down, even more so when a second quickly followed. You quickly slammed one hand against your own lips. His mouth was still preoccupied with your clit, and the mix of his tongue and his thick fingers curling up inside of you was too much. You could never get anything going with your own fingers, but his were magic. “Mi amore,” you whined. “So close.”
He curled his fingers again, hitting the perfect spot that was your undoing and barely a minute later you were coming. Hard. You clenched your thighs around his head, moans and sighs loudly falling from your throat. Bruno continued to lap at you gently, helping to ride you though it and make sure every single second lasted as long as possible.
“¿Estás bien?”
You gave a small laugh and nodded. You ran a hand over his hair and then nudged your fingers under his chin and scratchy beard, urging him to stand again. He stood up from the floor and pulled you along. He kissed you, making you moan into his mouth as you tasted yourself on his lips.
“Shower?“ He asked as you lay your forehead on his shoulder, his small figure perfect for the gesture. “Yeah,” you breathed, your body still tingling with sensation. This was perfect. He was perfect.
Bruno grabbed a big blanket from the floor and tried to lift you into his arms, failing miserably. “Come here,” you said as you offered him a place under the blanket with you. He put one arm over your shoulder and held the other side of the blanket with his free hand.
This way, you both tiptoed to the bathroom with a million whispered I love you’s on the way.

Change the future part 2
Tumblr media
first
___________________
"Mom...do you think it’s gonna be today?" Isabela asked softly as she watched her mother pacing up and down the room, Luisa looking anxiously out the window.
"I don't know mi vida...I hope so"
Julieta wrung her hands nervously and looked at her daughters. It hurt her heart not to have answers for them, but she couldn't lie to them either, she just had to hope and pray that today was the day.
"Do you think they remember us?" Luisa asked, earning a hiss from her older sister.
"Of course they remember us! They didn't leave so little!" Isabela crossed her arms "besides, we sent them letters, and...they surely remember how we look...right mom?"
The healer smiled at her eldest daughter and tried to appear as calm as she could. She truly understood, she knew where Luisa's fear and Isabela's anxiety came from. More than five years had passed since you left, refusing to wait for Bruno and taking your children and Mirabel with you.
Five years since the last time she saw her daughter, since Isabela and Luisa lost their sister, and despite the fact that you had found a way to communicate with her without her mother finding out, the truth is that there was always the doubt if her daughter and nephews remembered them if you missed them as much as they missed you.
“I’m sure they do, Isa” She smiled, hoping she was convincing enough to calm her daughters down a bit.
Things hadn't been easy since you left. The shock lasted only a few hours for Alma, and then she had completely gone mad. Many things were shouted between mother and daughter that afternoon and it hadn't taken long for the family to find out everything. Of course, the reactions were mixed.
Pepa and Félix had looked at her in astonishment and perhaps a little afraid, she didn't blame them, she knew the burden that her mother had put on them after Mirabel's failed ceremony. Agustín could never forgive her for letting you take their youngest daughter and in less than a month she was signing the divorce. She never saw him again. Yes, she understood that it had been a mistake to make that decision without consulting him, but she did not regret it, it had been the best for her baby, and although his absence still hurt her, she had to be strong for her other two daughters.
The children had all been confused. Dolores and Isabela were quick to more or less understand the situation and her eldest daughter was heartbroken when she asked if she had been the reason she had sent her little sister away, if she had been treating her too badly. Luisa and Camilo had not been better. Mirabel had been her nephew’s best friend and Luisa's favorite sister, and it hurt Dolores to have lost Joaquín and María.
Everyone had mourned the loss of the three children, but it seemed that Julieta herself had been the only one to remember that you were gone too. She knew that Pepa wasn't as close to you as she was, but she would have thought that her sister would have at least cared for you, but she didn't. And for a while, your name was strictly forbidden to the whole family, direct orders from Alma.
Her mother hated you as she had never hated anyone before, she didn't miss an opportunity to remind everyone of the horrible crime you had committed against the family and of which her own daughter had been a part of it. She also began to treat her as she once treated her precious Mirabel, and only confirmed to the brunette that she had made the right decision.
The healer didn't care much that she was no longer Alma's golden daughter, if she was being honest. Without the burden of her mother's expectations, she felt freer, lighter, and a little more in control of herself. She had more time to spend with her two remaining daughters, to really get to know the wonderful women they were gradually becoming, and that in turn saved them both.
Isabela never allowed her grandmother to control her life again, not after seeing how she treated her mother and understanding that she had treated her sister just like that. Luisa stopped leading the whole town behind her back and had been quick to learn and recreate her mother’s icy gaze for when someone tried to abuse her kindness.
The problem was when her mother tried to touch her little sister and her niece. No longer having her and Isabela under her orders, Alma needed other puppets, and her gaze had been riveted on Pepa and Dolores. Her poor sister began to break too soon as her mother tried to force her into the very mold the healer and her daughter had escaped from. There was no night that the rain did not fall hard in the town, while the redhead clung to her sister, crying from the pain that the situation caused her.
Pepa cried with fear, not only for her but for her children. Dolores began to be afraid to leave her room and Camilo didn't want anyone to look at him if he was not transformed, Alma's cruel words had done too much damage to their self-esteem and it broke the healer's heart to know that it was partly her fault. She was always stronger than her sister to bear that... maybe if she had continued to do so, everything would have been better.
It wasn't until Felix approached her one night to tell her that her sister was pregnant, that the brunette decided no, it wouldn't have been better. Pepa was afraid that the baby growing in her womb was going to break as soon as it came out of her like Camilo and Dolores were breaking, and Felix felt powerless and unable to protect his family. But Julieta could do it, she could protect her sister, her nephews, and her daughters. She wasn't going to let anyone touch her remaining family.
The next day, she fought another battle with Alma, one for the freedom of Pepa and her children. It had been hard but it didn't come close to what had already happened when you left with the children. She made it clear to her mother that she wasn't going to hurt anyone else, not on her watch. That represented an unexpected but beneficial change for the Madrigals: they began to think of her as the new head of the family instead of Alma, a change that even Casita seemed to accept since it stopped obeying her mother and only followed Julieta's instructions.
It was hard, having to make the tough decisions, teaching the family to fly free while she herself was still learning to let go of people's expectations, helping solve community problems, etc. But at least she wasn't alone, she had you.
There was no time of day when the healer felt happier and safer than she did when she was in her room writing a letter to you, or reading your almost immediate responses. In the end, it turned out that you had not only taken the children, but also a small part of the miracle, and both Joaquín and María had received a gift, even outside of Encanto.
A selfish little part of herself liked to think that the miracle knew she needed you, so she blessed her with a way to keep you close to her, even if you were worlds away. She didn't think it was a coincidence that Joaquín's gift allowed him to teleport objects and that combined with María's (who could bring everything she drew to reality) they had created the blessed box that she kept locked in her room and whose twin was with you.
It was some kind of portal, one too small for her to escape and see her daughter, but big enough for you and the children to send things and messages to her. Letters were the most common and she already had several albums with all the ones that Mirabel had sent her in recent years, it helped a little to alleviate the pain, and allowed her not to miss so much of her baby's life.
Of course, it was only a matter of time before Isabela and Dolores found out. Surprisingly, both of them had been excited and promised to keep it a secret in exchange for allowing them to send their own letters and gifts. She would never forget Isabela's hopeful look when she received her first letter from Mirabel, saying that she missed her and forgave her for everything. After that, it was you who asked her to invite Camilo and Luisa too.
As a consequence, the four of them spent most of their free time in Julieta's room, but she didn't care and the fact that Alma continued to look at them all as traitors, helped no one suspect anything. After all, where would the children feel most protected if not with her?
Also, it kept her sane. Her mother never knew that she still had contact with you, nor did her sister or her brother-in-law (because Pepa was still afraid of Alma and could have revealed it, so she didn't risk telling her), but you knew everything that happened in Encanto. There was nothing she wouldn't tell you, confiding in you her fears, worries, and insecurities, and you always knew what to say to make her feel better and reassure her that she was doing the best she could. It felt like you never left her.
In the end, it was just that, that bubble of love that you had helped her create together with the children, which allowed little Antonio to be born and grow up in a warm, loving home and, most importantly, out of the clutches of his grandmother. Pepa used to say that her boy would see her as a grandmother instead of Alma and she was quite amused when the baby began to follow his aunt everywhere as soon as he learned to walk.
It had been beautiful. A united and happy family (despite the shadow that had settled permanently in her mother's room), where everyone did the best they could and no one tried to fill each other's shoes,  it was close to perfection…until Bruno came back.
The night her brother appeared at Casita’s door will always remain etched in Julieta's memory. She had been washing the dinner dishes when her sister's scream alerted her and she ran into the hall, only to be met by the pair of green eyes she didn't think she'd ever see again. Of course, she had joined Pepa in the crushing hug she had given the youngest triplet and she had cried with happiness, thinking how happy you would be when she told you. But then her brother dropped the bombshell and had broken something in her and in their relationship. He hadn't left.
For Julieta, it was as if someone threw a bucket of cold water on her and the humidity seeped into her bones while Bruno confessed that he was always in the walls. Pepa had been quick to hug him again and tell him that it didn't matter, that he was back and that was what mattered, but for the older triplet, it drove a wedge between her and her brother.
She couldn't forgive him for doing such a thing, because if he really was in the house the whole time, it meant that he had seen them all suffer, that he heard Pepa and her cry, that he witnessed the cruelty with which Alma treated Mirabel and more importantly: he saw you suffer. He knew how much he'd hurt you, he'd seen you cry yourself to sleep, waiting for him…and he hadn't cared.
She had gotten even angrier when Bruno had tried to explain to her the vision he had and how he had tried to protect Mirabel.
“Don't even mention my daughter” she had growled “do you think you protected her? Letting her be treated like dirt by mom? Letting them blame her for your absence? She was a baby, Bruno! And you only made it worse for her! Do you know who truly protected her? Y/N did”
In the end, Isabela and Félix had to get her out of there to prevent her from saying more hurtful things to her younger brother, and she had been quick to tell you everything. Of course, you had reacted just like her. Mirabel wrote her a letter a few days later to tell her that you had been crying every night since Bruno reappeared.
As the new head of the family, the Madrigals had waited for her to make a decision regarding Bruno's stay in the Casita. It hurt her a little that they thought she would leave her own brother out on the street despite how upset she was with him, especially considering that her mother still lived with them, but she supposed it was a fair thought considering her words to him. The healer received him back, but everyone could see that there was a broken link there.
However, her brother's return resulted in a change of dynamics that little by little began to separate the family. On the one hand, Alma had been quick to put her arm around Bruno's shoulders, taking advantage of the tension between the siblings, and Julieta hadn't been able to avoid it, while Pepa had been caught in the crossfire.
The children had not known what to do or where to turn. Isabela and Luisa were firmly by her side at all times, as was little Antonio, who refused to be away from his aunt, but Camilo and Dolores were torn between comforting their mother, re-establishing a relationship with their long-lost uncle, or supporting their aunt.
In the end, the bomb exploded in their faces. Julieta never wanted it to happen, but when her mother insulted Mirabel and tried to curse your name, she snapped. She had responded with the same cruelty as Alma and that had caused the miracle to break. The cracks had appeared quickly and suddenly, without giving them time to react.
She watched in horror as her daughter and her eldest nephew attempted to rescue the candle, only to be stopped by Casita and pushed along with the rest of them outside, preventing the building from collapsing on them. Fortunately, no one had been hurt, but their gifts were gone. It wasn't until later, after settling in a house that someone in town had lent them, that she realized what that meant: if the miracle wasn't there, there was a huge possibility that your children would have lost their gifts too, and with them, all contact with you, with her daughter, would have vanished. All because of her.
The brunette had cried herself to sleep, a huge emptiness growing in her chest and her guilt threatening to consume her. Silently, she had apologized to anyone who would listen. To her family for failing them, to her daughter for losing the only bond that united them, to you, for everything. Her only consolation was a letter Isabela had managed to salvage, one that had arrived just before everything went to hell:
The children and I talked and after a long time, we all agree that maybe it's time to go back. We will leave this afternoon. Mirabel is very excited to see you (although a little nervous too, despite the fact that I told her and that she had nothing to worry about), and Joaquín and María already want to hug you, just like me. I don't know what will happen when I have Bruno in front of me, but I do know that seeing you again, the family, is what keeps me going these days, so here we go. See you soon, Eta <3
                                                                           -Y/N
That letter had been her anchor ever since. The hope of seeing you, of seeing her nephews, her precious Mirabel, of having them all in front of her after so many years, was the only thing that motivated her to get up every day because, like her daughters, she listened to a small voice inside her that always whispered in the back of her mind: maybe today.
"I wish Dolores could hear them" Isabela whispered, pulling her out of her thoughts.
"Isa" she said with a warning tone.
"I know, I know, sorry" her daughter sighed "it's just that... it would save us a lot of disappointment"
Julieta looked at her for a moment before sighing and hugging her against her chest. She shared her daughter's feelings, it was too painful to wait all day to see if you and the children would appear on the horizon, only for the night to catch up with no trace of you. She didn't know if her heart would take much more.
"Mamá?" Luisa called
The woman looked at her other daughter, worried by the tone of her voice, and both she and Isabela separated when the muscular girl leaned even more over the frame, almost stepping out of the window.
"Luisa?" she asked carefully "Mi amor, what's wrong?"
"Look" her daughter pointed to something outside "I think... it's them"
Julieta immediately looked where Luisa was pointing, and she felt her heart race and her stomach twist the moment she saw four dots advancing towards the house where they were. She had not seen you in five years, but she could always recognize your figure, no matter how many lifetimes had passed. You were really there, you were really back.

Guys, come on. You have to try to understand. Eddie being 'the angry guy' in Buck's dream wasn't bad writing, an injustice to Eddie's character, or racist.
Hear me out.
If Eddie never met Buck, Eddie never met Carla. Which means he's struggling to be a firefighter, raise Christopher, trying to make it work with Shannon, and also probably trying to put up a good front for Abuela and Pepa because it's quite likely that whatever they know will get back to his parents. That's fucking hard for anyone, never mind someone with as much repressed PTSD as Eddie.
If there was no Buck, then, as the episode very clearly states, there would be no Bobby. Buck and Bobby are the first two people Eddie starts to trust in the firehouse. He forms a relationship with them before he gets closer to Hen or Chim. If there's no Buck and there's no Bobby, he probably isn't able to get close to Hen and Chim so easily. And that too is if he even ended up in the 118. We know from 2x01 that Bobby fought to have Eddie from the academy. All of this is to say that not only does he not have Buck, he doesn't have the entire support system that being in the 118 gave to him.
And maybe, even without Buck and the firefam, he would have eventually found someone to take care of Christopher, but that's a very difficult task, and certainly even more so when you've only moved to a new place a only few months ago. He's completely alone out here.
When Shannon died, Eddie's grief turned to anger. Remember fight club? Yeah, he's a war veteran, he's been trained to channel all his emotions into anger, to hit something. So it's not too far fetched to think that her dying and him being burnt out from all of his responsibilities and not having any real friends would turn him angrier. Maybe after joining fight club, he would have kept going. No Bobby to calm him down or coax him into therapy he doesn't want, no Buck to be annoyed at for suing departments, no Chim for Eddie to give sage romantic advice to, no Hen to bond over playdates with their kids.
Pepa and Abuela are probably seeing their nephew and grandson struggling, and while I'm sure they'd want to be on his side, maybe they decide that it's for his own good that they ask Eddie's parents to intervene.
So they come, they fight, and Eddie hasn't yet tried to mend his relationship with them, so they genuinely believe they're better for Chris than whatever Eddie can offer, and when he refuses to give Chris up, they take him to court.
Eddie loses his son. He never gets to meet his found family. He never gets to mend his relationship with his biological family. He doesn't go to therapy, because at least initially, Christopher was his only motivation to go to therapy.
Hence, he's 'the angry guy'.
I get why someone might not immediately get it, because all of this was distilled into one line in the show, but that doesn't mean it isn't true.
Also, it truly isn't a case of the white guy being the brown guy's saviour, god no. Eddie saved Buck as much as Buck saved Eddie. Imagine if Eddie never came to LA. What then? What would Buck do in season 2, when he's lonely and grieving the loss of his first adult relationship? In season 3, when he's recovering in his loft all alone, because there's no Eddie dropping Christopher off every day? He had a best friend, and he sued the department anyway. What if, because Eddie wasn't there to say “Do you know how much Chris misses you?”, Buck never dropped the charges? What if that completely ruined his relationship with the firefam? What if he completely regressed?
Those are very real things that could have happened if Buck never met Eddie. So truly, it is not a case of the nice white boy saving the angry brown man. It is a case of ‘what if this very pivotal character was removed from the equation, how would it affect the lives of the people who love them?’
Thank you for coming to my Ted talk.

Sixth part of Intertwining Threads of Gold, based on a prompt by @time-for-a-grandkid-round-up.
The one where Mirabel becomes matriarch.
Dolores’ confrontation plan and how the family react to the news.
Not really the “official” sixth part. More of a five and a half.
Previous part of ITOG.
Comments are always appreciated.
~~~~~~
Intertwining Threads of Gold VI
“I…” Mirabel took a breath, trying again. “I don’t want to be matriarch. I never did. I never will. But I don’t feel like I’m getting a choice in the matter. And the tapestry also symbolises my death and suffering, as likely a hummingbird would bleed out and not survive long enough to know the loss of freedom, though why am I adding that?” She rambled, as quickly as possible.
Dolores blinked.
That was a lot of information really fast.
“You might be worse than I am.”
“What do you— never mind, I don’t need to know. Where is Luisa?”
“Not yet. I’m not done with you.”
“But I did as you asked.” Mirabel argued.
“Why?” Dolores asked, ignoring her cousin. “You didn’t explain why you felt like you weren’t getting a choice. Or why you’ve not said any of this. I already know you don’t want to be matriarch, that information is useless to me.”
“I did as you asked! Please? I’m worried about Luisa.”
“Yes, and the longer you refuse to cooperate the more likely she will get hurt. Probably fall in a ditch and die.”
Mirabel looked horrified. Dolores leaned back a little from the anxious beating of Mirabel’s heart. “Why would you say that!?”
That’s when a figure poked their head through the doorway: Pepa.
“What are you two arguing about?” She asked.
“Don’t tell her, please.” Mirabel whispered.
When neither answered - Mirabel turned away and looked like she could keel over and die at any minute; Dolores just stared passively, hoping to catch her mother’s intrigue - Pepa just sighed, entering the room, taking a seat.
Her mother paled when she caught sight of the tapestry.
“This is… Where did this come from?” The woman inquired.
“Mirabel’s room,” Dolores answered.
“Sobrina, why would you make this? It… it is very disturbing.”
Thunder rumbled.
“What if Antonio happened to find it? What would he say? Ay, mi niño… he’d be terrified. And his poor animals.”
Mirabel was shaking in Dolores’ grasp, eyes locked on some spot on the wall in a poor attempt to avoid crying.
“Have you noticed the colours, Mama?” Dolores prompted. “Aren’t they familiar to you?”
There was a brief pause and then a gasp. “It’s us! That makes it so much worse… Mirabel? I’m not a mind reader, you need to talk.”
The girl in question made no move to answer.
“This is essentially Mirabel’s form of a diary, Mama.” Dolores explained. “There is probably more hiding in her room somewhere. But this one is about how she doesn’t want to be the matriarch and how she thinks she’s being forced into it.”
Her mother cursed, almost offended. “But we aren’t forcing you into anything! We would never do something this… this horrible! We aren’t monsters!”
Pepa continued ranting. Mirabel was hyperventilating at this point.
Dolores relented, letting go of Mirabel’s arm. “Luisa isn’t working. She’s just taking a walk. You can calm down, it’s fine.”
Mirabel paused. Momentarily.
She didn’t wait around too long before she then left Casita altogether.
~~~~~~
Isabela had only left her room to use the bathroom when she heard the commotion downstairs.
How could she not?
Everyone downstairs was screaming at each other.
She doesn’t think she’s ever heard the grown-ups all be so loud before.
She briefly caught sight of Félix guiding Camilo, Antonio and a collection of animals into Antonio’s room, clearly trying to keep them unaware of what was going on.
And Dolores walking along to Mirabel’s room, with a cloth hidden behind her back. Looking a little guilty.
God, she hates being grounded.
She misses out on all the fun stuff.
~~~~~~
Luisa holds back a frustrated groan. Of course, that’s all they had gotten from the tapestry or whatever Dolores told them.
(Speaking of, her cousin best pray Luisa doesn’t find her. Because telling everyone else was definitely not part of the agreement).
They think Mirabel is just having doubts.
Each coming up one at a time to explain why they think Mirabel is good at this job and list her many qualities that make her a fitting matriarch. And even Mirabel, thoroughly overwhelmed, has a look of ‘that is not remotely true’ on her face.
“She doesn’t want to be the matriarch,” Luisa finally explodes, gently tugging Mirabel behind her. Still holding her hand. “Why the fuck any of you thought she would because of the past alone is beyond me.”
“Luisa, language,” Julieta chides.
Agustín glances down at Mirabel. “Is this true?”
Luisa protectively shifts Mirabel further around behind her. “What the fuck do you mean ‘is this true’? You didn't consider her PTSD at all when you made this plan? She hasn’t really been lying about her feelings either, which you’d all know if you paid her any amount of attention. She even told you all she didn’t want this when you first told her - several times! I wasn’t even there! That was a big step for her and you ruined it! She was saying ‘no’ and talking openly to you all, why would you just ignore her!?”
She took a breath, trying to calm her temper.
“You are her family, parents and guardians, and you have all failed her.”
The adults looked away in an uncomfortable silence.
Félix took the chance to leave, mumbling some excuse about how he was going to check on Antonio and Camilo.
Pepa quickly followed suit. “It has been a while since Dolores left,” she whispered. “She was probably very concerned after the tapestry incident. I’ll go see how she is.” And didn’t wait to see if anyone would attempt to stop her.
“Nobody has anything to say?” Luisa demanded to the remaining adults in the room.
Nothing.
Or, well, Abuela said nothing.
Her parents clearly wanted to say something, but couldn’t think of what.
Tío Bruno just looked off into the corner, as though it would make him invisible.
“I think… I think we should have a talk,” Agustín said. He slightly gestured to himself, Julieta and Mirabel. Before Luisa could say anything, he added, “Alone.”
Luisa turned expectantly to Mirabel; it was her choice. The girl still looked distressed and maybe even terrified now, but she let go of Luisa’s hand and followed after her parents into a different room.
Bruno tried to sneak for the other exit, while she watched her sister go.
“Where do you think you’re going, Tío?” Luisa snapped.
“Ah, well, you know.. someone really should tell Isabela—”
“I’m not finished.”
Hello it is I!
POV PEPA
She needs to calm down. Gain some control. But it's a little hard to do that when her mind is racing the way it is. She doesn't understand why this is happening. And why to poor Mirabel? She's such a wonderful girl. She doesn't deserve this, and poor Julieta she must be out of her mind with worry and fear.
She needs to calm down her panicking like this isn't going to help anyone, let alone her sister who needs her right now. She focuses on her breathing.
in-one, two, three.
out-one, two, three.
Clear skies, clear skies,clear skies
She isn't aware of how much time has passed around her but she has a feeling it's only been a few minutes. Felix is right next to her whispering sweet things in her ear, dios Mio he's such a wonderful man, she takes another calming breath in, feeling the weather around her calming down as she does. She then takes a look around the room needing to ground herself in the moment. Her mother is sitting at the head of the table like always but she looks tired, not reacting to her storm like she usually would just sitting there. She sees her brother-in-law entering the dinning room with her sobrina in his arms. Finally she looks over to see Dolores and Camilo sitting in their usual spots both looking at her with wide shock and fearful looks. She wants to comfort them but she honestly has no idea what she could even say in this moment that would comfort them so instead she looks for Antonio.
He isn't here.
The wind that just calmed down picks up again.
"WHERE'S ANTONIO?" She whips around to look at her husband barely recognizes her own panicked screeching which she almost regrets doing seeing her daughter flinch from the corner of her eye.
She watches Felix blink in shock then look around for their youngest son only to have panic fill his eyes when he realizes that he isn't there. "I d-don't know I.... He was here just a minute ago!"
Before she can panic even more Dolores squeaks out "He's with Tia Julieta." The relief that fills Pepa is instant and fills her entire being but just as instantly as the relief came so did the heartbreak. Julieta is in the nursery with a baby Mirabel. He didn't go into the nursery looking for Julieta.
She sighs softly trying to mentally prepare herself for what shes about to do "thank you Dolores." She quickly gets up but stops there just behind Augustine and Isabela and Luisa is Julieta with Antonio and a squirm and whimpering baby cradled in her arms.
Julieta's pov
She didn't mean to start crying but Antonio asking for Mirable shattered the small amount of control she had built up. She doesn't cry long just a moment but she feels guilty for doing so. Antonio stands in front of her looking so scared and lost and her crying just makes him feel worse but she can't help it.
"Tia what's wrong? Why did you cry? I'm sorry I didn't mean to make you cry!" Antonio looks so heartbreakingly sad and confused which almost makes Julieta cry again but she keeps her composure this time.
"Oh Antonio no. You didn't make me cry sweetheart.... I am just really sad. Casita did something last night and well... Come here and look." She shifts the now quiet bundle in her arms so that Antonio can see the baby Mirable. Antonio quickly moves forward,practically crawling into her lap to get a better look. Mirable smiles slightly as she looks up at Antonio which makes Julieta smile slightly at the adorable sight the two of them make.
"I don't understand.... This is a baby... Why would a baby make you sad? Shouldn't everybody be happy?" Antonio looks up to her waiting for her answer
"yes usually a baby would make everyone happy. But this isn't just any baby... This is.... Mirable." Julieta stumbles through her explanation trying her best to explain something she herself doesn't understand.
"Mira? This is Mira?" He looks back and forth between her and Mirable a strange thoughtful look on his face.
"yes this is Mira. I don't know how and the why is a little... Complicated but this is Mira tonito." Julieta hopes he doesn't have any questions about it she doesn't know how much more she can take.
He nods his head once before saying "Ok. Is Mira coming to breakfast?" Julieta is both relieved that he doesn't have any questions and slightly shocked at his quick acceptance of the situation.
"I.... Yes. I think Mira and I should go to breakfast now, in fact why don't we all walk to the dining room now?" Pepa is more than likely calmed down by now and trying to delay this will probably only make it worse in the long run. Mirable whimpers slightly from her cradled arms.
Antonio hops off her lap with a quick "ok." He holds out one of her hands for her to take and as soon as she takes it he starts leading her to the dining room. As they make their way to the dining room Mirable starts to squirm and whimper.
All eyes are on her as soon as she's in sight in the dining room she shifts slightly uncomfortable but takes a deep breath before saying a simple "Hi." She finds herself surrounded by well meaning family members asking questions and she instantly regrets leaving the nursery.
Pepa realizing Antonio was gone but only after while is so real. And then when she finally calmed down, she started up again 🌚 or at least she will soon👹👹 But these guys had Julieta stressing 💀💀 Mirabel too. Wouldn’t be surprised if the chaos (and the QUESTIONS) left the poor girl overwhelmed. And she’s not even the one answering them 🦈🦈
All of them need to be cut a break 💀💀
