#mp#asks#what's funny about finch is that while i hated him for most of the show#all of the show really#i still thought he was a really interesting character#and if they'd done something different with him in s5 and completed his arc in a way that was satisfying#i wouldn't have been as annoyed#s5 really did none of the characters any favors#could write a whole thing about not only shoot but john#and how having a character who is self destructive and suicidal at the start#and finds purpose in life (and therapy!) end up sacrificing themself is just....not great!!!!#i feel the ending attempted to be Deep and Meaningful at the expense of the characters and that was a huge mistake#it could have achieved those things in other ways and it's a real shame#for all the characters even the ones i didn't like
