rambling abt neuvillette and furina under the cut bc i am so full of thoughts and i do not want to bother ppl w them

i am so unwell over them

ok so like i am admittedly someone who stans a lot of (harmless) m/f out of a potentially misplaced sense of bisexual spite. so like i love neuvifuri and the shippers have my full support (except for the really weird ones 😭) but i am kind of unsure abt how to feel abt them as a ship

i was definitely drawn to neuvifuri pre-4.2 because they had such a good and fun dynamic. neuvillette is kind of an anchor to reign in furina shenanigans, they’re essentially co-rulers, and they’re the only two in fontaine who share longevity and eternity. and the end of neuvillette’s story quest where furina leaves a note for him just made me feel so sappy. like furina can teach him things too!!!

which is what makes the reveal so heartbreaking. everything that would have ostensibly brought them together was actually things that further isolated furina. like the whole point is that furina was truly and utterly alone in her situation. and it’s so tragic to think that the person who would ordinarily have been closest to her was the one who hurt her the most

and it’s even MORE tragic that neuvillette’s one and only request for the “trap” was that it not hurt furina, and yet it still had to play out that way, traumatizing her deeply in the process!! and he couldn’t have known, so it’s wrong to villify him for doing so, but you can’t change the distance that it furthers between them

and then you have furina, living as a regular human, and the only two who know what she went through are neuvillette and the traveler. we have already seen how the traveler reacts to this (they’re a fucking asshole) but neuvillette really sympathizes with her when focalors tells him all of this. he um. he doesn’t say sorry at the end of the archon quest but i think he’s nice enough in her story quest so. you’re on thin ice buddy

the way i’ve phrased this makes it seem like i think of all of this negatively bc it doesn’t feed into my ship. pls let me clarify that’s not what is happening here. like their dynamic is so fucking good none of this is a complaint in the slightest bc this is all so much more compelling

now that furina has a human lifespan any romance between them is destined to end in tragedy, and i don’t think romance is really what furina needs right now? i mean maybe it would help idk but i think she just needs to do her own thing for a while. the only person who can understand what she’s been through is neuvillette but i don’t think she feels anything romantic for him

the more i write the more i kind of like unrequited neuvifuri on neuvillette’s side. it is so deeply funny and so deeply sad

idk where i was rlly going w all of this but i cannot stop thinking abt them romantically or platonically i need more of it. most importantly i need neuvillette to gently hold furina because SOMEONE has to and it might as well be him
