i'm slowly circling around hermitcraft (i keep telling myself i'm not going to get into another minecraft smp thing, i did my days in the yogscast mines) and it's so compelling. i won't lie. what would you, personally, suggest as a starting point for someone who hasn't watched any of these people before? even without knowing these characters, your hermitcraft fic is so good that i want to learn more about them
yeah see, i told myself that too and then dsmp and 3rd life and hermitcraft happened and. here i am. back in the pits again!! having the time of my life about it ngl.
so, okay, my first caveat would be: fandom does a lot of heavy lifting re: it having a plot. like... i'd say they're less plotty than the yogs were, with season 8 being an honourable exception. so don't go in expecting that my fic has uhhhhh. really any relation to canon lmao. (though to be fair, it didn't really in yogs either, so...)
first option: watch an episode of Hermitcraft Recap (a channel that does a weekly "what happened on hermitcraft this week" highlights video), see if any of the things mentioned take your fancy, and then check out the channel of the hermit that did it. this is good if you're hunting for someone doing a specific Thing in minecraft, rather than streamer personality.
second option: see the rec list below, and check out one of those people's season 8. season 8 is now over, but it was very short compared to regular seasons - so a lot of the excitement gets compressed and amped up, and it's a good way to really get an idea of what people are about. it will give you an unrealistic idea of how plotty hermitcraft gets, especially the end, because they went absolutely off the shits with that one, but it's a great season.
third option: see the rec list below, and jump straight into season 9 - either at the beginning of someone's series, or at the current point, or skip around through various people's things. we're like 20-ish eps in, depending on the person, but honestly it's pretty easy to dip in and out; we just had a big Plot Development with rendog getting crowned king of the server, so it's a good time to start! rec list (biased to the people i watch, obvs! the others are great too, but these are my faves), to help you decide who to pick:
Literally unhinged impossible redstone, constantly on his villain arc, (and tomato plants?): DocM77
Very good redstone, also extremely funny: TangoTek (also makes excellent noises), MumboJumbo (on break atm. i miss him :( ), Zedaph (he's doing. weird shit this season, but i support him in his quest to be a lunatic)
Incredible building, but also chaos-gremlin energy: BdoubleO100 (excellent noises pt.2), Grian (main character energy, tumblr's fave), PearlescentMoon (i am kissing her s9 base directly on the mouth)
Incredible building, really nice voice: GoodTimesWithScar (tumblr's other fave)
Building but also like. weirdly chill-but-horny vibes: Keralis (deliberately), Rendog (on accident)
Literally no idea but you should watch him: Joe Hills (very odd, currently hyperfixated on pinball machines, i find him very soothing for reasons that escape me, writes haikus for his episodes????)
fourth option: some of what you've seen from me will be from 3rd / last / double life, a bunch of semi-hardcore "death games" series run by grian and involving a bunch of hermits (plus some other friends, including inthelittlewood from the yogscast!). these are great, and i watched these before hermitcraft, and then based who i was watching in hc on what i'd seen there. double life is happening rn and we're only 3 eps in, so it'd be easy to catch up! it's basically a soulmate au but in minecraft, because grian is insane; i'm really enjoying BdoubleO100, PearlescentMoon, Tango, Rendog, and Grian (Scar is on a weird zookeeping arc, godbless, so he's in my bad books until he starts killing again. otherwise, the go-to rec is Grian or Scar's pov of 3rd Life, which sent me fucking insane.

10, 12, 17 and 18 if you like ♥️👀?
wow this got so long....thank you jay sorry jay <3
10. Top three favourite fic tropes
oh god ummm i love a long timeline for sure, like following characters at various points in their lives...i enjoy the fake marriage for the sake of like, a heist or an infiltration or whatever (esp. if one party has been like nursing a crush for ages and finds this arrangement excruciating)....what else...yeah the in vino veritas one. no further comment
12. If you write in more than one language, what’s the difference?
for real i've been thinking about this literally my whole life, like how many authors are there who spoke multiple languages but didn't translate their own work/write original works in their other languages...imo it's because you basically start from scratch for every other language. in my case dutch is my first language and i have the same command of it that i have in english except in the arena of creative writing. i haven't even tried it since i was like, 12 (and a 3 page screenplay for an assignment in like 2018) but i know that if i did it'd just be a bunch of trite, clunky nonsense.
there's that quote like "true ease in writing comes from art, not chance, as those move easiest who have learned to dance" - so my feeling is that you have to learn to dance (from zero) for every language like: what tools are at my disposal, what does the literary canon look like for this language ie what works am i in communication with when i write.........it's a lot
feelings-wise though reading english and dutch impacts me differently. reading a work in english i'm like looking for the aesthetic beauty (which is no less moving, to be clear), but in dutch everything feels more...idk. tactile and geometric is the best explanation i have?
as for french i would need to do a lot more reading to be able to feel the difference. i know that "je ne voulais pas être connu par lui - je ne voulais pas être connu par quiconque" hit me harder than "I did not want him to know me. I did not want anyone to know me" but i couldn't tell you why lmao. maybe passive vs. active voice?
17. Past or present tense? Why?
i think the stereotype is that present is more contemporary and past is kind of a little refined and vintage, so for me it completely depends on what flavor i want the work to have. it's also a matter of consistency ie all the stuff i've written for the true gold-verse is in present tense, so i'd hesitate to change that up unless it was really necessary...but both my original works are in past tense and i admit i was drawn in by that old timey sheen :')
the other thing is it has to serve your chosen format? like is it an epistolary work, is it in the voice of a character recollecting an event, etc etc. most of the time you get your answer that way
18. First, second, or third person?
i think i do a pretty fair share of all three. like tenses it is also a matter of preconceptions ie third person is the least likely to raise eyebrows.
first person is fun in that you can't possibly forget the voice of the narrative - it's the voice of the character speaking. you have to contend with "I" - sometimes it helps, because it distinguishes the speaker from everyone else, you avoid a lot of pronoun confusion, you don't have to name the characters ad nauseam, but it also sticks out. I did X. I said Y. etc etc it's a balancing act
third person again kind of lends legitimacy purely by being what it is, but because you don't get the narrative's voice just handed to you like you do w/ first person it's crucial to develop that for yourself. like who's narrating, how much do they know, how much do they want to reveal, etc etc. how close do you want the reader to be to the protagonist. are we in their head or are we looking down benevolently.
second person...the only published work i've read that uses second person is nk jemisin's fifth season - and that works pretty well, but it's only one of 3 perspectives in the book. i think doing second person for more than the length of like, a novella is kind of unbearable lol...as for myself i've only used it in reader inserts and the only reason i write those is to do a character study without having to bother about serving the viewpoint character. then the "you" is basically a floating pair of eyeballs that exists to perceive the character. you notice there are freckles on her wrist. you catch her smiling. etc etc

Hi,love your work and thoughts behind them.I was wondering if you would answer a few questions. You can skip any if your uncomfortable.
1: Favorite cliche or scenario to write for.
2:What got you into Twst.
3:Any other fandoms your involved with.
4:Who do you hope to voice any character in the upcoming Twst anime.
5:Is there any topic you want to write for ,but don't have the you can pull it off well
6: Thoughts on Grim.
7:Any things you want more of.
8:Are you into the Obey Me fandom
9:If so are you excited about season 4.
10: favorite flower.
That is all have a good day.
I don't know, 10 questions seems like more than "a few" to me--
My responses get a little lengthy, so I'll slap them under a cut!
1. I don't have anything specific in mind, but what I enjoy writing the most are character-focused pieces where the conflict is one's inner turmoil or coming to terms with one's own emotions instead of something physical. (To clarify, I do NOT mean pining or anything romantic here, I mean just a character growing and changing over time from impactful life experiences like Overblotting or losing a friend.) I feel like self reflection is very important, and something that's not often explored because it's abstract and doesn't have a clear answer or a definitive ending. Personally, I really like the open-endedness of these kinds of pieces, as they help me really analyze and understand the characters on a deeper level.
2. I wouldn't consider myself a Disney fan, but I do really enjoy Toboso-sensei's art style and storytelling! I had heard rumors online that she was working on a new project with Disney (which turned out to be Twisted Wonderland), and I've been following it since.
3. I play some other gacha games (since it helps curb the temptation to impulse pull in TWST), and I enjoy various shows/anime and manga/books, but I'm not actually that involved in other fandoms. I'm generally a casual fan that just sits and quietly enjoys content from the sidelines.
4. I mean, I thought the current VAs would just be reprising their roles for the anime? I don't really care to remember or to follow VAs (or celebrities in general), so I don't have anything to add.
5. I think that with enough time and research, I could write anything if I was interested enough in the concept. However, there are certain topics that I would like to avoid writing at all costs (not because I think I can't write them well, but because they are personally triggering). You can find a list of them in my writing request rules.
6. Honestly, I don't know why people find him to be so annoying (well, maybe except for his voice). The only reasonable explanation I can think of is maybe players are annoyed that Grim "steals the spotlight" from MC/Yuu, but I don't mind that because I think it's pretty funny. I really enjoy Grim's snark. He's not as mean-spirited as Ace, but he knows what he wants and how he's going to get it, even if it sometimes backfires on him. Grim is basically my first companion in Twisted Wonderland; he's been with me through it all, the good and the bad. He's really the one I truly consider to be my friend, not Malleus. In fact, I'm way more attached to Grim than I am to Malleus 😂 Grim being a cute, fluffy cat also helps his case, since I really like cats!
7. I'm always hungry for more TWST world and family lore! I'd really like a "parent-teacher conference" event where we get to meet each of the boys' parents and siblings! It would be super interesting to see what the students' dynamics with the family members are like, and how their families would react to hearing about how they're performing in school. It would really help to highlight the differences in each boy's upbringing and background, from healthy relationships to unhealthy and even toxic ones. Also, it'd be hilarious to see Lilia pull up as Silver's guardian--
8. I tried out Obey Me when it first came out, and it... well, it wasn't for me. That's not to say the game is bad, but it just wasn't to my tastes. I was expecting Obey Me to be something that it wasn't, so of course I was disappointed when it didn't meet those expectations. More power to you if you enjoy it, though! I can definitely see why it appeals to a certain demographic or why it's good as just some nonsensical fun. Here are my general thoughts on Obey Me:
The characterization and the jokes seemed repetitive. There's only so many times they can joke about Mammon being "the dumb one" or Beel eating so much before it loses its magic. There's also the problem of each boy being defined almost entirely by their "sin" or really basic character tropes (like Asmodeus's narcissism) rather than having any character outside of that.
In my opinion Barbatos, Simeon, Luke, Solomon, Diavolo, etc. are much better characters than the 7 brothers, because they don't have a single sin to rely on to be their entire personality. I stopped playing before those guys became "playable", so I'm a little sad that I never got to grab them.
I feel extremely weird about the plot twist about who the MC really is, and how all the brothers continue to aggressively hit on the MC despite knowing their true identity. Besides that, I felt like the main story and the events never took themselves seriously. I would have preferred it more if there was something more at stake instead of being 98% fluff.
If you hadn't told me the characters were demons, I'd have thought they were just generic pretty boy designs. Like... nothing about Asmodeus's looks screams "lust" to me, nothing about Satan's looks screams "wrath", etc. Meanwhile, you can take one look at Idia's gloomy face and stooped pose and immediately guess what type of personality he has. I felt like there was so much potential with the characters being angels and demons, but it was never capitalized on and therefore went to waste.
I never understood why everyone thought Lucifer was so hot? Maybe I just have shit taste--
Gameplay-wise, the events and new cards were too frequent. It was a very "pay to win" model, which required constant attention without allowing you enough time to properly save or to plan for new card drops if you didn't spend a cent on the game.
I'm not a fan of the general art style, but those little shadow demon dudes are super cute!
It's hilarious that the anime adaptation depicts the MC as a sheep ashdasidasibdagofuyabsdais;basd--
9. I don't know what "season 4" means, sorry!
10. Lilacs, gardenias, jasmine, and peonies are my favorites smell-wise, but I like all flowers. They're very pretty and calming to look at.

What friendships do you think will (want to) be explored in s3 of hsmtmts?
Friendships that I want season 3 to explore:
ALL. OF. THEM. I love every possible combination of the Wildcats, and ideally they would all be super close. Plus, I'm always here for adding more frienships into the mix between our main characters and new and/or recurring characters! @mazzara already talked about our Nini/Antoine friendship crack theory, for example. Just give me as much wholesome content as possible!
Friendships that I think season 3 will explore:
This is a bit more tricky to answer, since we have very little information on what relationships season 3 will focus on.
It feels like a safe bet to assume that the established close friendships on the show will get some focus. So EJ/Ashlyn, Ashlyn/Gina, and Carlos/Gina. Normally I'd add Ricky/Big Red and Nini/Kourtney, but with Olivia's recurring status and Larry's status being up in the air (guest or not appearing at all), it seems less likely that they'll be featured a lot. Same goes for EJ/Mazzara.
I think it's likely that Ricky and Gina will eventually repair their friendship and give it a stronger foundation this time around. Ricky already indicated he wanted to be friends in 2x06, but Gina wasn't ready for it at the time. Plus, I don't think Ricky was ready to really examine why he never vocally rejected her and what their flirtationship was in season 1, so I think (or rather, hope) that he'll get there in season 3 and finally be ready to apologise to Gina. Only then can they start over.
Season 2 gave us that wonderful Nini and Gina heart to heart and made their friendship stronger than ever in the finale. We probably won't get many scenes between them in season 3 given Olivia's recurring status, but I do think (or again: hope) that Ricky and EJ will reach a similar stage in their friendship. It'd be nice to see them open up to each other and find things to bond over. I'd also really like to see EJ voice to Ricky that he finds Ricky very talented and that he belongs in the theater. I think that could help Ricky an immense amount in his journey of self-discovery.
Carlos and Ricky's friendship has been given at least a little focus every season, so I wouldn't be surprised if that happens again in season 3. I'd love to see Carlos help Ricky in finding out how he wants to define himself. Similarly, Miss Jenn and Ricky have always had important scenes together, so I don't expect that to change next season.
Tim has teased storylines with Jamie for Gina, EJ, and Nini, so I imagine that those relationships will all get various amounts of focus, depending on Jordan Fisher's availability.
That's about all the guesses I have for what friendships I think season 3 will explore. I don't doubt that the show will give moments to a wide range of character pairs and develop their friendships, but right now it's hard to say anything more on what pairs may get more focus than others.
