So doing D&D prep and I've got two different NPCs the party might choose to fight on the way to finding the Dragon Turtle's lair with the artifact they're hunting. And the need to create complete dungeons around each potential boss fight to keep the players from just brutally novaing their way through them has been surprisingly good at making me come up with, like, a supporting cast for each potential boss.

#the rakshasha-in-human-skin pirate queen has a chain devil fence and slaver who runs her palace on the side #and a 6'8" berserker subordinate captain whose her current favorite and favorite muscle #and a chained up fey monstrosity with a cursed third eye she uses for all Sarlac Pit needs #the secretly-a-bronze-dragon elven artificer/military genius has #a stick-up-her-ass veteran pirate-hunter actually commanding the squadron babysitting him #a hobgoblin research assistant/fellow scholar/paramour who said (ever so slightly racist) captain *hates*#and a guardian construct he's tinkered and enchanted so much it's basically a beloved pet that sometimes levels several buildings instead #of knocking down the door like it was told #D&D #it's 2am and i'm rambling #rpg
