So, while I was playing Reload (great game 10/10), I was brainstorming about using the android that kills Shadows in P5. So, I came up with an AU where Akechi is an Anti-Shadow weapon. Well he is inspired by one.

Of course, there are fanarts (better than mine) or fics where he is that Anti-Shadow weapon, but I have never really seen anything dwelling into lore that much? I just saw the concept being thrown around or Phantom Thieves just being a part of Shadow Ops (feel free to correct me, I haven't been everywhere in Persona fandom ehsjskks) So here's my take, which contains spoilers for Persona 5 (obvs) and some angsty themes:

Spoilers obvs!!!!!!!!

-Wakaba killed Akechi during one of Metaverse's experiments (oops),

-she felt so guilty about it that she secretly retrieved his consciousness from there,

-using plans for an Anti-Shadow weapon

by the Kirijo Group that she somehow got hold of (maybe she stole it, maybe she just got it idc), she rebuilt him as an android and put his consciousness there (although it exists with the programming, because she wasn't that knowledgeable about robotics - she was a cognitive psicentist at heart, after all),

-was it a good decision? idk but Wakaba kinda strike me as a scientist who would think that was an excellent idea,

-Akechi disagrees, he hates her for that because now he is forever stuck as a thing that is forced to listen to orders (being forever stuck in one body also doesn't feel right I suppose),

-but they have a neutral and professional relationship that revolves around exploring the Metaverse (Akechi can still use Loki, just like Aigis can use Palladion),

-Conspiracy, learning about this, hacks Akechi-android to use him as a weapon in the Metaverse (so he still is a Black Mask, although everything is done completely without his input),

-Akechi then kills Wakaba, which she anticipated and before that she had given Futaba a copy of her research and Akechi’s plans - although she said to never use them without a really serious reasoning,

-yada, yada, yada we're in original game timeline,

-Akechi as a Detective Prince doesn't exist,

-but he does exist like a obstacle in Palaces/Mementos that hunts down the Thieves,

-let’s just say they would be able to fight him back around the time their lvl in Okumura's Palace,

-Morgana doesn't know wtf Akechi is,

-Joker has some suspicion that Akechi isn't just a machine, but he doesn't really voice it at that point,

-when they are in Futaba's palace, on one of the wall arts (the one where Wakaba works on something and Futaba is begging for her attention) they notice that Wakaba was working on one of Akechi's parts (probably his arm idk),

-so they ask Futaba (post-change of heart) what’s going on, but she has to do research,

-when Futaba joins the team, Akechi always targets her (due to his resent to Wakaba),

-they finally learn what Akechi is and that he is malfunctioning (y'know being a serial killer weapon) due to being hacked, so they decide to help him (bonus point if they can get him on their team),

-so in Okumura palace arc they set on changing the CEO heart and capturing Akechi (who is also there, because he has to get rid of Okumura),

-during the fight in that Palace, Futaba manages to free him from Conspiracy’s control (bonus point if he awakes to Robin Hood),

-when they get him back to Leblanc's attic, Futaba repairs him (because I feel like she would be into robotics just like her mom) and they learn that even if he is on their side now, he doesn't remember who he really was (even first his name, only Akechi).

So, my AU would revolve around Akechi re-learning about his past (he can bond over his amnesia with Morgana) and being as human as possible.

I have a few ideas that I probably will draw (or write, who knows), but that's all for now. Thanks for coming for my ted talk.

Persona 5 hcs!!

Lol I had to rewrite this TWICE bc I use ctrl-z a lot and tumblr deleted my ENTIRE FUCKIGN POST

Anyway

I’ve been reading fanfic all day and the p5 brainrot is strong lol I wanted to do all the PTs + Akechi and Maruki but I got bored of writing this

Notes:

Not all of these are positive (esp Futaba)

There will be nsfw, so mdni pls :D

Some are reader insert, some aren’t

Reader is gn unless I fucked up somewhere and didn’t notice lol

Characters: Akiren, Ryuji, Ann, Yusuke, Makoto, Futaba Triggers: mentions of abuse of all varieties, panic attacks, dissociation, past homophobia, Kamoshida being himself, self image issues, eating disorders, obsessive behavior, needle phobia, blackmail, hallucinating.

╰┈➤ Akiren

→ The man is TOUCH STARVED. He’s so used to being the shoulder for people to cry on when you offer to cuddle with him without expecting him to comfort you he fucking reels.

→ To elaborate on the above; in public he’s pretty subtle, usually just holding your hand or letting you lean on him when the trains are packed and you can’t reach a handrail. But in private he’s the walking definition of clingy. He has on more than occasion begged you to sit in his lap while he does whatever task he needs to do just so he can feel you near him.

→ Whether his name is Ren or Akira is an ongoing joke that Sojiro knows the answer to because of having done all the probation paperwork, but he won’t spill no matter how much the PTs beg him to

→ Despite his maxed proficiency stat and the amount of time he spent playing video games prior to moving to Tokyo he is entirely mediocre at mario kart.

→ He can draw! He doesn’t do it often and is unwilling to admit that he’s actually pretty okay at it.

→ He bluffs his way through the first time you sleep with him because he is a virgin somehow even with almost every living human in Tokyo throwing themselves at his feet.

→ The fact that he’s a quick shot is a closely guarded secret that you unearthed because you noticed he makes a point of making you cum on his fingers at least once before fucking you and when confronted about it he went very quiet and tried to stay stone faced despite the comically bright blush that painted his cheeks.

→ Awful phobia of needles post 11/18 to the point where he avoids seeing Takemi because the cartoon needle on one of her posters is enough to trigger his panic attacks.

→ He has frequent nightmares, and won’t tell you why. But they worsen significantly post 11/18, with him calling you at least once on most nights to help him through his panic attacks.

╰┈➤ Ryuji

→ He has a reputation for being desperate, and he definitely is, but in reality he’s far less shallow than it seems.

→ When you ask for his help dying your hair he practically leaps at the idea, and you learn that he’s really fucking good at it from maintaining his own bleached hair.

→ Ren got him a super sonico figure as a gift once and it lives unopened under his bed. Not because he has shame or doesn’t like it (he very vocally loves it actually) but because he’s worried about his mom accidentally seeing it one day.

→ THE PUPPY DOG EYES OMFG

→ The smell of alcohol gives him panic attacks, and he makes a point of avoiding the trains at night because of this.

→ Despite his initial reaction to conflict being fighting, he crashes hard after and often isolates himself for hours after while he dissociates.

→ He smokes more than he’s willing to admit, and thoroughly hates himself for it bc he can feel it fucking up his lungs and making it harder to catch his breath when he’s running.

→ He is bi, but is very defensive and unwilling to talk about it because he’s still working through the homophobia instilled in him by his father.

→ He is also a quick shot, but isn’t really good enough with his hands to compensate.

→ He does however really like watching you get off without him while he waits for you to finish so he can fuck you.

╰┈➤ Ann

→ Women <3

→ She often asks you to model with her, and should you agree she beams like you’ve just given her the best gift she’d ever received.

→ Her love of sweets seems to be contagious, as the more time you spend with her the more you find yourself enjoying them.

→ Really hates being touched, it takes her several months of gentle encouragement to let her hold your hand because the only person who ever had was Kamoshida.

→ Extremely anxious around men, and often gets you to stand between her and any dudes on the trains/in public in general.

→ Horrific self image issues, she covers it well with faux confidence, but she is deeply insecure and tends to hide herself away when she’s doing poorly.

→ She cries a lot, just in general. It doesn’t even need to be sad, she’ll cry just as hard over a really cute dog as she will a heart wrenching scene in a movie.

→ The local Romance Expert despite never having been in a healthy relationship.

→ You can tell when she’s struggling because it’s the only time she could be caught dead in sweatpants.

→ The pink highlights from her P5D outfit are canon to me, argue with the wall.

╰┈➤ Yusuke

→ He asks to paint you often, but rarely actually does. Often breaking down into fits of insecurity about his “inability to capture your beauty” as he puts it.

→ So very autistic, he is easily overwhelmed and carries a little notepad that he uses for communication when he inevitably goes non verbal, and for little doodles to help him ground himself.

→ He really awkwardly asked you out after a long conversation with ann about the difference between romantic and platonic feelings

→ “Ah… So my urge to include them in every single one of my paintings in some way is not platonic?”

→ He borders on obsessive about you once you & him start dating officially, and often cancels plans with the PTs to spend time with you.

→ Shy of losing himself in his painting he will drop anything he’s doing regardless of its importance on the off chance he can see you.

→ He asked at one point to paint you nude but for the first time in his life got so flustered at the sight of you that he had to excuse himself, and never asked again after that.

→ Past the first time asking him to hold your hand, he’s very casual about physical affection. Often attaching himself to you in one way or another unconsciously.

→ The only PT besides Akechi who isn’t a virgin.

→ Everyone was fucking appalled when they learned this ^ because how did yusuke end up with bitches and akiren didn’t???

╰┈➤ Makoto idk much about her I’m so sorry makoto enjoyers

→ Really fucking weird music taste? Like her study playlist is 90% breakcore and the first time akiren heard it he got fucking whiplash.

→ Teetering on the edge of gifted kid burnout and only manages to survive because of the terrifying amount of black coffee she drinks

→ She’s got an eating disorder and has a really bad habit of talking about her disordered habits like they’re normal.

→ Then is shocked when everyone is like “girl what????”

→ Haru was her lesbian awakening and even though they’re not dating anymore she still loves Haru dearly

→ That can be said about most of her exes, she tends to fall in love quickly and never really fall out of it, thankfully the rational part of her has prevented her from being seriously hurt.

→ Absolute pillow princess, despite the ongoing bit about her pegging ryuji there is not enough money in the world to convince her to be any kind of dominant.

→ almost kissed ann once on a dare and was so nervous she literally started sobbing, which caused ann to also start sobbing, they never ended up kissing.

╰┈➤ Futaba

→ She has bugs on everyone’s phone, and listens in on them constantly even after they change her heart.

→ She’s really creepy in general, and has a massive stash of audio clips and videos taken from security cameras and the bugs that range from mildly entertaining to blackmail worthy levels of incriminating

→ Has a document dedicated to everyone’s taste in porn.

→ She is autistic in the opposite direction as yusuke, she’s perpetually underwhelmed and needs to have 5+ different stimuli going at any time for her to be able to do anything

→ Likes akechi a little too much literally just because he likes featherman as much as she does.

→ Didn’t stop hallucinating after her heart was changed, they just became mild enough to ignore.

→ Had a really weird crush on akiren before her heart was changed, in hindsight it was probably just because she has a voice kink and she spent a lot of time listening to him talk.

The first time Ann hears about Akira knowing gas chamber is from Ryuji. So its no surprise that she thinks he's full of shit and Akira would 100% commit to the bit and never confirm it. Everyone else will similarly follow suit and also think Ryuji is trying really hard to convince them that not only does Akira totally know gas chambers on a personal level but tatsujun isnt just PR. Theyre married and are Akira's adopted parents. It gets to the point that Ann and Ryuji start arguing about it publically. It becomes a running joke among there classmates.

Most of their classmates are pretty ick about it (they dont really think positively of Ann Ryuji and akira as is so they joke about how the deliquent is really out here trying to convince everyone he's related to celebrities). Mishima on the other hand believed it the instant he was told:

Ryuji: *points to Akira* This guy is the love child of tatsujun from gas chamber

Mishima: *sideeying ryuji* reaaaaally?

Akira: *straight faced knowing he looks like he knows you know hes lying* yep.

It was enough for Mishima.

Futaba already knew. She found out while doing a bg check on Akira before he moved into the cafe. She also doesnt tell anyone bc she also thinks it's fucking hilarious that no one else knows.

Haru initially doesnt believe them but she once met Jun at a charity function when she was younger. He had tatsuya with him and she did get the impression that they actually were romantically together. One day she corners Akira to find out the truth but it very much goes similarly as it did with mishima (Akira confirms but is he *actually* confirming it or just messing around??) Haru is eventually able to get a crack in the facade when she tells him how he met the two before and how she thinks they might actually be together. How encouraging it was to see a queer couple who were so in love that they couldnt really hide it. Akira breaks and ends up sharing family photos with her.

If youve seen my flower child au comics theyre kinda inconsistent with how and when morgana and Akechi find out. Earlier comics had them knowing during the events of the game while my more recent comics have them finding out post game. But i think I prefer them knowing during game cause it just makes better sense for me timeline wise so....ignoreing my own comics I guess

Morgana would technically be told the same time as Ryuji except Morgana would have 0 context as to who tatsuya and jun are or even who gas chambers is. So from Morgana's perspective Ryuji thought Akira's dad (who morgana saw pictures of from when Akira was a kid) was a girl. (He will never let Ryuji forget this). Ryuji would later be talking about gas chambers with Ann and she would be the one to show morgana their music and recordings of interviews and live shows. Because theyre fully dressed like a v-kei band Morgana wont put 2 and 2 together until after he actually meets them.

Even though he would also do a background check on Akira, Akechi doesnt know that about who Akira's parents are. (Jun and tatsuya couldnt legally adopt Akira so technically Katsuya and Maya would be Akira's legal parents but everyone in sumaru knows bc Jun and Tatsuya never hid their relationship. Also all the members of Gas Chambers go by a stage name for privacy reasons)

Like Ryuji Akechi also grew up familar with Gas Chamber bc his mom was a fan (side note: I think both Ryuji and Akechi would have young moms who couldve been good friends). Akechi, gun to head, would never admit this to anyone especially not akira but Jun would be his gay awakening. Akira only finds this out after Akechi meets his parents. They dont break up over this but they get close to it. Akira would refuse to talk to his dads for a week when he finds out leaving his parents panicked bc their bby boy is big sad and might have broken up with his first bf but doesnt want their help. They stay together and all is good but lord help Akechi if he ever points out any similarities between Jun and Akira.

Yusuke has no fucking clue who Gas Chambers is. But when he meets Eikichi he will go to stalker level to get a chance to draw him. Luckily for him Eikichi finds out about the little weirdo thinking hes beautiful and is all about it. He keeps every piece Yusuke gives him and even has Yusuke's paintings in the family restaurant as well as his home.

Sorry this is rambly!

Edit: I forgot Sumire!! I'll be honest, I have no clue. I dont believe she would know who Gas Chambers is. Futaba would probably only know bc she's a gremlin and constantly online.

Sumire most likely would think Ryuji is trying to tease her and not believe him either. She would be with the squad when they go visit Akira and find out Ryuji didnt lie. Shed be glad that Futaba and Akira got the pleasure of their long con going through without failure.

Also the p2 squad will realize that the metaverse was a thing when they hear Morgana talk.

10 Characters, 10 Fandoms, 10 Tags

Thanks to @cleflink for the tag!!! Picking only 10 characters was really hard!!! But, I think this is a good selection: 1. Goro Akechi - Persona 5 - It’s literally a meme between my friends that I love this man way too much lolololol. His complex personality and dynamic with Akira is just so good!!! My ultimate favorite character of all time!!! (Still waiting for the Akechi to my Akira) 2. Joshua Kiryu - The World Ends With You - For those who can’t tell, I love the cocky cunning assholes. Ever since I played the original game on my DS back in the day, I’ve loved this man so much!!! An intriguing individual with an excellent dynamic with Neku. (I hope we get another sequel someday!!!!) 3. Kazuya Miyuki - Ace of Diamond - THE CATCHER OF MY HEART!!!! When I first started watching Ace of Diamond back in like 2015 (? I think?), I wasn’t sure if I would stick with it because Eijun gave me so much second hand embarrassment (we are too alike lololol). But then Miyuki appeared and stole both of our hearts and I’ve been a fan since (They hugged in the latest chap!!! IM SO HAPPY!!!!!!) 4. Kaito Kuroba (Kaitou Kid) - DCMK - One of my earliest crushes that I still have to this day lololol. Detective Conan was one of the first animes I watched on my own (before that, I watched whatever my mom and sister showed me like Cardcaptor Sakura), so the series holds a special place in my heart (and I think Kaito probs highly contributed to me having the Type I have today lololol). I also love the contrast between Kaito and Shinichi (Kaito seems easy-going but is actually always considering his options vs. Shinichi seems calculating but is actually really impulsive). 5. Damon Reznor - Andromeda Six - I LOVE THIS MAN!!! I’ve played many dating sims over the years, but Damon’s character and route legit takes the crown for being my all time favorite. His character is honestly perfect (and even when I streamed the game with friends, we were legit directed by fate to do his route because every time we had a choice the random number generator we used always picked him lololol) 6. Dimitri Alexandre Blaiddyd - Fire Emblem: Three Houses - When Byleth mentioned that Dimitri has a darkness within him, I was immediately intrigued and decided to go for the Blue Lions route. This choice absolutely paid off when I got to the scene where he discovered the truth about Edelgard and went absolutely feral!!! His character development was so good, and I legit can’t play the game without romancing him!!! (Also, when he was the only house leader to comfort Byleth when the tragedy happened, I ended up actually crying because I had recently lost one of my cats and his words impacted me strongly. I’ll never forget them) 7. Jason Todd - DC Comics - One of my favorite robins (along with Tim Drake)!!! He deserved so much better than the treatment he received from the writers when he was robin, but his character development as the Red Hood has been excellent. Tho i miss his and everyone’s iterations from before the New 52 happened. (Gotham Knights better do both him and Tim justice!!!) 8. Arsene Lupin - Code: Realize - THE BEST BOY!!!!!! Since I love Kaito, it’s no surprise that I would adore other versions of Lupin as well, and Code: Realize’s version is absolutely perfect. His and Cardia’s relationship is so cute, and I found myself wanting to smooch him anytime he was on screen. 9. Yang - Piofiore - ONE OF THE BEST ROUTES I HAVE EVER SEEN IN AN OTOME!!!! Yang’s character development during his route was honestly one of favorites of all time!!! It was so well-written (and I was honestly disappointed that the other routes never reached the same level). I also loved how Lili was directly involved with most of the action in his route. 10. Volo - Pokemon Legends: Arceus - HIM HIM HIMMMMMMMMMM!!!!! Although I still love N and Pokemon Black and White will forever be my fav games in the series, Volo has officially become my ultimate favorite pokemon character!!! His final battle during the post-game honestly shook me to the core (and I hope we see more of him someday, tho I doubt GameFreak will ever try to expand the narratives again like they did with Black 2 and White 2). Warlords are protective fathers.

Oda forces.

Nobunaga Oda.

Nobunaga is the kind of father that wants to be near his children 24/7, specially to his baby daughter (even if she isn’t a baby anymore, he will stubbornly continue to see them that way. That goes against his own ideals as he believes that people change and grows, but when it comes to his daughter... he just can’t. If a boy get even near her, give a single glance, Nobunaga will try to hide her in his cape. Seriously, he will try and scare the boys away (which succeeds).

You will obviously look at him with your arms crossed as he does that, pulling on his ear. Poor man will be scolded again if he continues being too protective.

Hideyoshi Toyotomi.

Hoho, this mom-dad is a complicated person, he is protective about everything and anything, specially when it comes to his daughter. “Boys are bad wolves, be careful around them!”, he will have a heart attack if his daughter talks about wanting a boyfriend, and you will have to calm him down. He just wants to be protective and make sure that his daughter is safe, he is afraid that she might have her heart broken.

It will be very difficult for him to let her go and let her have a lover, try comforting him and telling that she is still their baby daughter. He will need that.

Masamune Date.

Although he is a cool dad, he can be possessive about his family. Specially when it comes to your daughter, he is supportive! He really is! The thing is... the boy will have to prove himself worthy of having his baby daughter. Masamune will give the boy a lot of impossible tasks to see if he really loves your daughter and it’s willing to fight for her. You try to stop him but there’s nothing that can easily change Masamune’s mind. If the boy give up, Masamune will be disappointed and won’t let him near his daughter again, but if he stays and do the tasks... he will have one final task, fight him!

For this last one, you will have to pull his ear as hard as possible to make him stop with the insane tasks. He is just doing that to make sure his daughter has the right person.

Mitsuhide Akechi.

This man? He is very possessive and jealous, with you and your daughter. He will be very, very protective of her, he knows how men can be and all he wants is for his daughter to be safe from them. He will either blackmail them to stay away from her or give them a scary smile. Of course, you stop him from being a bit too much about it, but he will laugh it off like it’s nothing. He will know when a boy is really good and well intended, and even then he will scare the boy.

This one will need a big scolding from being too harsh and protective, pull his ear and ban him from kissing you for two weeks, believe when I say that it will teach him to not be too harsh.

Here's a Ryuji and Ryukoto appreciation post! (super long post but it's worth it)

One big problem (that everyone has already noticed, it's nothing new) is that the writers aren't really good at writing a good friendship between Ryuji and the other members of the phantom thieves.

While many say that his place in the group is used as a "comic relief", (which btw doesn't work because we feel bad for him), I also think that they're trying to make a fun friendship. Kinda like when you and your friends call yourselves "hoes" and "stupid bitches" but obviously don't mean it and it's just a joke, an affectionate way to say "I feel comfortable enough with you to say dumb shit".

However in Ryuji's case it doesn't work because not only does it go in only one way (the phantom thieves towards Ryuji but never Ryuji towards them... except maybe for Morgana but they're just quarreling) but also because Ryuji doesn't like it and doesn't take it as a joke.

The biggest example of him being mistreated was when he literally saves everyone's ass only to get beat up afterward while we know very well from his confidant that his father used to beat him and his mom, also his legs got broken by Kamoshida. The saddest thing is that he's not even trying to be dramatic about it.

He's just like "uh... yeah. My dad used to beat me up and my mom but whatever, I'm past that" while we get hours and hours of Futaba's palace showing us that "oh no her mom is dead those adults suck". No offense in any way to Futaba btw, I like her and there's nothing wrong with her arc but I just find that sad how while we got a whole big ass backstory for her troubles Ryuji's abuse gets downplayed the whole game and made fun of.

O-kaaaaay let's move on to the main point: Ryukoto.

This is something that seemed really obvious to me and I'm surprised that there's not many people talking about it. This ship has SO much potential if done right. (Emphasis on DONE RIGHT.)

I know it's super cliche because Makoto is supposed to be the typical "super intelligent girl with a badass side" and Ryuji the "lovable and reckless idiot" so this type of ship is overdone everywhere. Movies, games, TV series, manga, books, etc. I know.

But did any of you realize that both of them have many similarities?

For example, their troubles getting "downplayed". Like I said earlier Ryuji was abused by his dad but we never hear any more than that and in Makoto's case there's something similar happening. We know that her mom died when she was really young and then her dad but she never makes a big deal out of it just like Ryuji. I guess they didn't feel the need to add anything to that narrative because we already have many characters in persona who don't have/lost their parents (Futaba, Yusuke, Akechi, Haru, etc.) However there's something else happening, it's about Sae.

Remember that one scene where Sae just randomly started yelling at Makoto and telling her that she's useless, that she should "aknowledge their situation" and that she "eats away at her life". If it happend once what makes you think that it doesn't happen regularly? Afterward Sae realizes that she effed up, apologizes and says that from now on she'll eat outside which makes me think that this is not the first time this kind of thing happens. Makoto's reaction also comfirms it at the beginning when she wants to bring up their dad but knows clearly what can happen when she does.

Sae is obviously having a lot of stress due to the fact that she's now suddenly the "adult of the house" and she has to bring enough money home for both of them not to mention that Makoto has yet to get into a college (which can be really pricey). So it's understandable that Sae feels on edge and knows that she shouldn't say things like that. But even if she doesn't mean it she's still her sister and her words hurt. I'm hesitating on calling this a borderline verbal abuse situation because we don't have enough evidence for that (and also because many love Sae and I'll get my ass fried if I say anything bad about her, no worries though. I do think that she's an interesting character.)

So let's continue.

Then the whole time Makoto is teary eyed and silent which once. Again. Makes me think that this is absolutely not the first time this happens. Afterward we see Makoto's desperate attempts at trying to be useful to the phantom thieves and make a place for herself where there isn't. Both Ryuji and Makoto don't think highly of themselves, Ryuji thinks that he's a burden to his mother and Makoto to her sister. And so they always throw their lives away/put themsleves in great danger, Makoto when she goes with those strangers in a car to meet Kaneshiro and Ryuji when he stops a taxi by jumping on the road, or the time at Shido's palace when he saves everyone (the scene after that when he gets beat up is still super yikes like wtf do you think you're doing atlus??)

One thing that I always liked about her (that many don't) is that the palace in which she awakens doesn't have "much to do with her" compared to the others. But that's why it's great. Many say it would've been better if the palace was the headmaster's palace instead of "that random mafia guy" however I disagree. The build up to this moment always seems so obvious to me that it surprises me that a lot of people don't see the connection.

The whole build up before her awakening is all the people around her treating her like garbage and using her because she's the goody-two-shoes student council president who apparently only cares about a letter of recommendation and only does all those good things to get praise while we're proven wrong again and again. Does she want a letter of recommendation? Of course. It would be easier to get into a good college and help her sister financially since apparently if you have a letter of recommendation some colleges in Japan will take you for free (if I'm not wrong, I might be saying bullcrap so don't quote me on that). But is she mainly doing this for the letter? No. She does it because it's the right thing to do. She could've easily let those students in debt and tell the headmaster who the phantom thieves are but instead she prioritizes the students of her school.

And that's where all of this comes in: Kaneshiro DOES actually have something to do with Makoto because he attacked the students of HER school. If you get involved with the students of Shujin then you also get involved with Makoto.

But anyway, this turned out so long and I'm not even DONE.

Also how Ryuji and Makoto have similar taste. They're both sports-y, (Ryuji probably finds martial arts awesome I mean come on) and Makoto likes mafia movies which makes me think she also likes "cool" things and same for Ryuji. When Makoto awakened Ryuji was immediately on board calling Makoto an ass whooper, a post-apocalyptic raider and whatnot.

Both of them also get suppressed by their surroundings but for different reasons, Ryuji by the teachers and track team members because he's a ""delinquent"" and Makoto by the students and headmaster because she's the student council president.

Those two just understand eachother I'm telling you. Now just imagine them hanging out with eachother and helping eachother.

Makoto teaching Ryuji fancy Aikido moves he can pull out anytime just in case some crazy teacher has the bad idea to break his legs again so he can defend himself. Ryuji teaching her how to "talk casually" and more like people of her age so she can make friends, and also how to use emojis and play video games. Imagine Makoto saying "for real?!" and sending weird emojis to Ryuji then she has to explain what it means the next day. Like

"Hey uh, Makoto... Is Morgana okay?

-Of course, what do you mean?

-I mean, yesterday at 9pm you sent me this: "Morgana is gonna be delighted *knife emoji* *knife emoji* *cat emoji* *cat emoji* (🔪🔪🐱🐱)" what does that even mean?

-I was cooking something for Morgana since we couldn't bring him sushi yesterday. Is something wrong about that?

- Oh thank God... I thought you were about to kill him.

-What?! That's ridiculous. I would never!"

Ryuji also lends her some shonen and seinen manga because he knows she'll definitely like those (especially the mafia ones). Though they keep that a secret from the others because Makoto doesn't want them to know. But this one time they come into her room and Akira/Ren is like "hmm... I've seen the same mangas in Ryuji's room." So they just nervously laugh it off.

Just IMAGINE the studying scene actually helping Ryuji.

It starts off with Ryuji not even being serious about it and half assing it because he thinks "it's useless I'll never be able to get something better than a low passing grade" because his whole life he's been told that he's stupid and even when he put effort and time into it he wasn't able to get much better.

So then Makoto asks him what kind of method he uses to study and Ryuji's just like?? "What do you mean method? Isn't studying just about reading the same thing over and over again until it gets into your head?"

And so Makoto sighs and explains that there are different ways of memorizing and that everyone has different brains thus different methods of studying. For example she says she's more "manual" so she has to write down the important parts of her lessons a couple of time so she'll remember studying as an "activity/event" of her day thus she remembers what she was writing down because it takes concentration to write something and a councious effort to make a synthesis of all the important parts of her textbooks.

So they make a test to find out what type Ryuji is, Makoto will say 20 completely different words and everytime Ryuji will use a different way to memorize them. The first time around he writes them down then turns the paper so he can't see what he wrote.

He realizes that he was more focused on properly writing down everything she says rather than actually memorizing it so it doesn't work. Then they try again but this time all he has to do is listen carefully to her voice, she says that if it helps him he can also try to make a song with those 20 words.

No good, he's not the auditive type either.

Then lastly Makoto tells him to try to picture every word she says inside of his mind, if it's a tiger he'll picture a tiger. If it's cooking he'll picture someone cooking etc.

And so it ends up working best! He's more of the visual type.

Makoto then talks about the different ways he can study thanks to that. For history he can recreate the stories inside of his mind so anytime he needs to he can play the images in his brain and even if it's not 100% accurate it's fine. Imagine the story you're creating in your mind is a manga based on past events! For math where there isn't much "visualizing" to do, Makoto says he can try to "see" the layout of the page in his mind and if he gets through it a couple of times he can even remember which formula is in which spot of the page which makes it easier to remember them.

Makoto keeps giving him tips and Ryuji listens carefully. She ends her speech by saying that he's not stupid and that disliking studying is normal, having bad grades doesn't make an individual dumb. After seeing that Makoto is serious Ryuji also gets in the "study mood". He's happy because for once he's not being made fun of for really trying his best to get good grades. He feels comfortable with Makoto because she's not looking down on him for having troubles with studying and doesn't mock his efforts.

Thus he ends up having good grades (not Makoto level good but like... B+s and occasional As which seems like a dream for Ryuji.)

Everyone is baffled.

The phantom thieves, the teachers, the students.

It ends up looking really suspicious that he has good grades to the point where people think that he somehow managed to cheat or something. But it's fine, Ryuji doesn't care about what they think and he's super happy at the thought of his mom praising him. The whole time though Makoto is like "I knew it, Ryuji can achieve anything when he really tries." From this point onwards they always study together.

After a while Makoto invites him over since her sister is never home anyways and same for Ryuji. Also the daily lessons they have at school make their way into their conversations thus they pay more attention in class so they can talk about it afterward in their study sessions.

Since Makoto is a third year Ryuji asks her about the things he didn't understand and this helps Makoto to re-check her basics from past years since she tends to forget them and Ryuji also gets interested in third year material then starts getting ahead of his classmates.

This one time he was asked to solve a calculus equation/problem but he wasn't paying attention and he's like... wait... didn't I see this type of thing in Makoto's textbooks? He accidently uses the 3rd year formula instead having no idea that they didn't learn it yet and the teacher is like... "That's... correct? Isn't this third year material though?" And oblivious Ryuji thinks to himself "ah shit, am I gonna get scolded for not paying attention?"

But it's all fine, the teacher was just surprised that Ryuji knew how to use that method and everyone starts thinking that Ryuji is actually secretly super smart and all this time he was failing his tests on purpose to piss the teachers off. From that point onwards he doesn't seem as scary to the others anymore and he gets teased by his classmates sometimes, even the teachers. "So Sakamoto-kun is actually smart huh? Who would've thought."

After a while people start approaching him to ask for help with their homework and with his cheery personality he always explains everything in a super easy way to understand, many start coming to him. Even students from other classrooms then suddenly the "delinquent Sakamoto-kun" isn't scary at all anymore. Poor boy gets teased everyday, especially when they see him talking to Makoto.

"Hey dude! The blond hair doesn't suit you anymore, dye it back to black Sakamoto!!"

"So the student council president is your girlfriend? Makes sense, people who are alike get along right?"

"Aww and here I thought that I had a chance with you... Well, if you're just friends then maybe we could meet this weekend? Just the two of us."

Even Makoto finds teasing him entertaining. She does the typical *wink wink nudge nudge* whenever a girl says she's interested in him. Little does she know that he has someone in his mind already...

Persona 5 and how MBTI can expose writing (in)consistency

Disclaimer

We’re studying writing and narratology as self taught, we are passionate about narrative in general and we believe in MBTI as a tool to analyse things and frame both reality and fiction in a different way. These are our opinions on the matter of how MBTI can be useful in approaching plot and character consistency, but don’t take it as a scientific paper;

We’re writing this article after a good 3 runs and various hundred of hours spent in this game per mod. We’ve already analysed the whole main cast and tried to explore everyone of them more in depth, so please don’t take anything in this article as an attack to a certain character or the game as a whole. We love P5 and P5R wholeheartedly - for this reason, we can’t overlook problems when they arise;

Big huge enormous spoilers for both P5 and P5R.

Premise

Characters are the most important element of a story - yes, even more important than the plot. Especially if you consider that a plot is, basically, characters doing stuff to reach a goal. Lots of stories revolve around a particular event or atmosphere, a fictional world to explore, or an issue, but there will always be characters in them because, as human beings, we’re attracted to people, their flaws and their problems.

So, if characters are the basis of a story, going deeper we see how fictional works tell us about how and why people overcome hardships and become a better person in the process (tragedies surely exist, but they aren’t the norm). That’s what is called the transformation arc.

That being said, how do we use MBTI? Since cognition is essential and behaviors mean nothing, we tend to look at characters both from a narrative and metanarrative standpoint. This means putting aside what characters do or what they like, and focusing on how they gain information, make decision and what are their motives. Since stories tell us about people and their struggles, it’s interesting to understand why characters act in a certain way, what really moves them forward.

This approach, inevitably, must compromise with the fact that fiction is made by people, and people can make mistakes. Works of fiction aren’t flawless and sometimes, trying to find what type a character is, is a way to bring light to those problems. Rules are a social construct, they’re fluid and constantly change, but they also provide useful tools to analyze stories, discovering their strength and their flaws. So, stories aren’t defined solely on strict rules, however MBTI can push one to better understand what is a good story or a well-written character and, vice-versa, why stories can fail to amaze us.

Why Persona 5?

Because it’s an excellent case study to show both how our typing process must adapt to face different situations, and what means to analyse a wide cast of characters that aren’t always perfectly written. The cast, though, is diverse enough that you can have characters with similar or opposite types that interact for 100+ hours, and this creates a very interesting setting for comparison and conflict.

Moreover, the confidant system can be a golden source MBTI-wise, because, if properly developed, a confidant can give us great insights about the character, or show other sides of them outside the main plot.

Tropes and typing

Persona 5 offers really great examples of what means to differentiate between typology and tropes when typing. Since we’re talking about fictional characters, we must acknowledge that sometimes there is a correlation between certain tropes/archetypes and certain types (mbtinotes on Tumblr talks about this more in depth here: https://mbti-notes.tumblr.com/spotting#fiction ). This, though, isn’t a rule and mustn’t become a limitation when typing, because cognitive functions work regardless of tropes, exactly as they do regardless of behaviors. P5 has both types that follow the tropes they are often associated with, and types that are completely different.

Ryuji is one of the main example belonging to the first case. He matches the Book dumb and Dumb blonde tropes, alongside with the Hot-blooded and Idiot hero ones. Those traits are usually linked to Se doms: always hungry and with lots of energy. In Ryuji’s case, though, he’s not an ESFP (only) because he’s loud and reckless, but also due to his approach to life and general cognitive process. That being said, it’s also true that he embodies the most common conception of what an ESFP looks like.

A similar example also applies to Akechi: he’s presented as the smart ace detective (The Ace) and later on as the mastermind traitor. He possesses many traits often linked to ENTJs, especially when they’re the villain, antagonist or anti-hero of the story. This doesn’t serve as a limit to his character though, and Akechi shares the majority of a young ENTJ’s cognitive process, alongside with some of its tropes.

On the other hand, P5 also offers characters belonging to the second case, for whom only looking at their tropes and role in the plot can be misleading typing-wise.

It's the case of Futaba: she’s an INFP according to our typing process, however the game always stresses her quirky and antisocial side, something so strong it defines her as a person even after her narrative arc. This is why many people type her as INTP, since those traits are often linked to Ti doms, high Ne users or rationalist types.

Another example is Yusuke: we typed him INTJ even though the community often refers to him as an ISFP. Our main complain regarding Yusuke as an ISFP is about how this type is justified only using the tropes he’s associated with. Since Yusuke is a bizarre artist and a weirdo, he must also be an ISFP in love with painting, art and beauty, right? Well, this is true, but not because he’s an ISFP. His behaviors don’t stem from an ISFP cognition, rather from the one of an INTJ, in our opinion.

Narrative arcs

Narrative arcs define the plot, but (following a shonen structure) they also sadly tend to be too much stand alone in the game, especially when it comes to character development. This leads to a situation where characters shine in their narrative arc, but then just sit in the background for the rest of the game, as a part of the Phantom Thieves. This isn’t entirely a bad thing, since Persona 5 revolves around a large cast of characters and tends to focus more on the group as a whole, so this structure suits the game’s leitmotif appropriately. However, narrative arcs surely enhance what we said about tropes and stereotypes, not always in a good way.

There’s also the problem of characters following the plot/comic gags instead of the opposite. A story may undoubtedly be full of gags and fanservice without it compromising its characters and their purpose inside the narration, but problems arise when said characters must adhere to rules set by the plot, rather than being realistic people freely taking actions and making mistakes.

More specifically, we’re referring to:

Ann and harassment

This, in our opinion, is the most emblematic case about narrative arcs and how they tend to be isolated from the rest of the game. Ann’s arc doesn’t revolve around a big issue, differently from others later on where the Phantom Thieves face threats against the entire Japan. However, Kamoshida feels like a real villain and the pain inflicted to his students isn’t less relevant than other issues. The firs arc tells us a story about harassment, how it may lead to victim blaming, social exclusion and extreme actions like Shiho’s attempted suicide. So, the game surely starts with a realist and captivating take, but what lies after it? Sadly, not much. From that moment on, Ann still remains the most sexualised member of the group and is often the one whose body is used as a tool to gain intel or other useful things - Yusuke’s modeling affair and the second letter of recommendation on Shido’s ship are just two blatant example.

And while Ryuji’s confidant is simple and straightforward yet still works properly, Ann’s one can be dull, revolving around characters less interesting and engaging than the ones we see during Kamoshida’s arc. Moreover, her confidant takes place while Shiho is still recovering, so we see her mentioned only few times.

Makoto and duty

Every awakening in Persona 5 is thrilling and moving but, speaking for us mods, we think that Makoto has one of the most galvanizing. Her arc embraces the leitmotif of rebellion and it works even better than the others since she always appears as a diligent and polite student. But is there something more after her awakening? Sadly, as we saw for Ann, the answer is no. Makoto’s confidant is plain, a simple solution placed by developers to show her personality while introducing new characters. It works, but it doesn’t give a further twist to the premise the game showed during her awakening. Not to mention that, despite her decision to less blindly follow the rules, Makoto is often relegated to the mom friend/dutiful student role, reminding others of rules and schoolwork and stuff. Yes, she has a relevant role in Sae’s arc, but we still find her confidant lacking what is shown during Kaneshiro’s arc.

Futaba and self growth

Futaba’s arc is interesting on many levels, especially because we see how a hikikomori undergoing severe traumas can overcome them, thus becoming a healthier person. Even though her arc is one of the most emotional in the game, Futaba quickly resets to a stage where she’s more of a comic relief than a vivid character and she often kicks in just to mock the other thieves or to solve problems tied to computer science and technology. Yes, this is coherent to her character, at the same time it often closes her in stereotypes since Futaba is limited by those roles rather than showing her new and mature side.

Kasumi and Sumire and the lack of closure

Sumire’s arc and confidant deal with finding acceptance and a new balance between her old and new self, since Sumire slowly accepts her sister’s death. Or, at least, this is what the game tries to convey to the players. We love what Persona 5 Royal added to the main game and we played both versions for hundred of hours, however we must admit how both of us mods found lack of proper character development throughout Sumire’s confidant. Her arc does a great job in showing how much pain she had to endure and how she begins to live with her sister’s death. But at the same time her confidant doesn’t give her a new starting point, in our opinion. Why? Because reaching rank ten with Sumire means that she just finds a new way to be tied to Kasumi, and not in a completely healthy way. Sumire admits how gymnastic was a way to be together with her sister and how she loved accessory activities tied to the sport, like eating ice cream after training, more than the sport itself. So, Sumire never really cared about the competitive side of gymnastic and, at the end of her confidant, it seems like she sticks with it just as a way to be tied to Kasumi again. Yes, this is surely a healthier way than the one she took with Maruki’s help, and we know how our opinion regarding Sumire can be controversial, at the same time we don’t think her confidant truly ends her arc properly.

What has typing every character highlighted?

After 3 playthroughs, two platinum trophies and many hours spent discussing this group of punks, we used MBTI to give a structure to our articles and, unexpectedly, we often had to slightly change our approach in typing the main cast. It’s been a huge project of analysis, research, reading online discussions and further learning. In the end, we’d like to write down our own conclusion about these characters. This specific section might be a bit more about our personal opinions, though.

Protagonist (ENFP)

Typing the protagonist was the wildest part of this project. Since he’s mostly an avatar controlled by the player, we knew everything had to be taken with a grain of salt. We separated canon from player’s choices, as a way to find what makes the protagonist a real character (sadly, not as much as he would have deserved). We also tried not to rely too much on gameplay mechanics in typing. In the end, we progressed by process of elimination, discarding the option that surely didn’t fit. We agreed on ENFP for him, but ENTP isn’t a bad match either. Even if a character so malleable by the player can’t be associated to a single type so easily, we do believe that a starting point somehow exists. Our hope for the future is that in new games we’ll get to play a real character, though.

Morgana (ESTJ)

Morgana was pretty hard to type, especially regarding the perceiving axis - which is a pity, because he’s not the stock ESTJ type of character. But since he’s the mascot of the Phantom Thieves, Morgana is often even more stereotyped than the other characters. He decently shows his dominant function during the game, but way less his auxiliary and tertiary ones, since his personality gets subdued by his function as the sidekick of the protagonist.

Ryuji (ESFP)

We talked above how tropes aren’t always detrimental and Ryuji is the perfect example of this concept. He was the easiest character to type, due to his simple (yet defined) personality. Ryuji demonstrates how a character doesn’t have to be complex or multifaceted to be interesting and loveable.

Ann (ESFJ)

Ann is the opposite case of Ryuji: a character driven by plot rather than by being a vivid person. We aren’t saying we dislike Ann (honestly there isn’t a thief we properly dislike), but we must admit how typing her was really difficult, and not because she’s too complex. It’s safe to assume she’s a Fe dom, however the game doesn’t give any solid clue about her perceiving axis - we traced down Si only by elimination and because her confidant show a clear FeNe loop, but otherwise the game offers nearly no clue of her Si (or Ti). Ann’s personality can’t shine properly in a game where, outside her narrative arc, she often has to follow the role of the ‘attractive/supportive character’ assigned to her.

Yusuke (INTJ)

Yusuke is an interesting case: typing him wasn’t easy, but, contrary to Ann, just because he’s more complex than he may appear. Under the ‘artist’ trope (that misled the majority of the community towards ISFP) there’s a character with less predictable sides and a well-written arc. Also, a very nice example of a non-textbook INTJ, since these types are often associated with science and/or greater battles in life. Yusuke was a nice surprise to find.

Makoto (ISTJ)

Typing Makoto was a bit of a slow process, since there isn’t a popular type assigned to her by the community. At the same time, identifying her cognitive functions wasn’t too hard, so we can at least say she’s a relatively solid character, meaning that even if she’s mostly a textbook ISTJ, she still shows the development process of her inferior Ne and tertiary Fi in her confidant. Her growth is pretty linear, and the problem lies precisely in the lack of a proper twist in her personality, since she could have been far more interesting and less predictable.

Futaba (INFP)

Futaba was hands down the hardest character to type, since she’s tied to all the stereotypes of being quirky, asocial and nerd, usually associated with INTPs. Futaba perfectly shows how a theoretically well-written character can’t shine under specific circumstances: she has an emotional and complex arc, which was in fact our starting point in typing her, since it’s a pretty clear example of a FiSi loop. Yet, she acts more as a comic relief or as a source to solve IT-related problems, and her functions aren’t properly shown.

Haru (INFJ)

Despite the meme of Atlus hating her and not giving her the proper screen time (which isn’t untrue), Haru was pretty easy to type. She’s a nice example of how a character doesn’t have to follow his type’s tropes to feel real. Haru isn’t the typical daydreaming INFJ with a saviour complex, and in fact she gets sometimes mistyped as INFP. Unluckily, as for Ann, the game doesn’t do a good job in giving her a well-rounded personality, and in fact finding evidences of her third and fourth functions was pretty hard.

Goro (ENTJ)

Akechi is probably the most multifaceted and complex character in the game, at least in P5 vanilla - we believe Maruki lowkey stole that record in Royal. However, since he’s a well-written one (even if he still lacks a proper narrative arc, to a certain extent), Akechi wasn’t hard to type. The most interesting thing is that he may seem the classic ENTJ with a psychopath/killer personality, but in reality, he probably doesn’t suffer from any mental illness, and his character revolves around what happens when functions are used unhealthily, or are excessively underdeveloped. For this exact reason, though, we find a pity that the game doesn’t properly address the consequences and aftermath of a teen that had to commit severe crimes and murder people to find a place in life.

Kasumi (ENFP) and Sumire (ISFJ)

There’s a lot to say about Kasumi and Sumire, especially regarding their role in the plot and their confidants. Typing them wasn’t easy, since we only see Kasumi through Sumire’s actions, and both of them have a half-confidant instead of a proper one each. So, with both sisters we had to proceed a bit by process of elimination, since they appear for a relatively short time and without super strong evidences of their types despite a few functions. Sadly, they highlighted how writing characters for plot’s sake rather than by making them vivid may lead to incomplete narrative arcs.

Persona 5: Royal playthrough pt2

I love the fact that you can talk to individuals in safe rooms and they'll have something to say about the thing you just did.

Is it just me or are Yusuke's safe room animations different?

I can't help but imagine that one guy who does "What You Favorite Ship from [Show] Says about You"

Ryuji/Joker - You're always a slut for dumb blondes that can dominate you in the bedroom.

Ann/Joker - You're always a slut for dumb blondes who can dominate you in the bedroom... AND you're hetrosexual.

Ann/Joker/Ryuji - One day you decided what's better then one dumb blond that can dominate you? TWO dumb blondes that can dominate you.

But also- "What's better than one dumbass bisexual? THREE dumbass bisexual."

And I couldn't help thinking it: Makoto/Joker- "You think that a strong female character is a one who punches and shoots things instead of a well written one."

There is only one braincell between Ann, Joker, and Ryuji, and Joker usually has it.

I saw Akechi in a clip and shouted THAT BASTARD

Rethinking my "I'm okay with Kasumi" POV

I need more Ann in my life. I wanna walk under an umbrella with Ann and be super stupid romantic.

Ann and Ryuji were at the Captain Kidd thing in my Thieves den, and she called Captain Kidd cute, inadvertantly calling Ryuji cute, and I was so sure he was about to blush.

Ryuji be defending me against Makoto. "My friend here's an upstanding guy." Nice.

Morgana keeps calling her sharp, but most of the stuff is just like... bitch, you keep walking into this stuff. It's like the shittiest mystery ever. And no one's gonna let down their guard with your upfrotn questions.

Also, I think that Morgana turning into a bus is a reference to 'Totoro' and the orange cat bus?

Honestly, going through the story, I think it's characters like Yusuke and Haru who have it the worst. Their fathers/father-figures betrayed them and used them for their own personal gains. And even Haru had it easier, because she was legitimately her father's daughter and an adult. She inherited everything after he died. What did Yusuke get? A schoolarship to Kosei he had earned by his own merits and severe trauma.

HOSTAGE SITUATIONS HAPPEN AS EARLY AS MADARAME'S PALACE!? I've only have to deal with it once, with Ann in the Holy Grail thing. I think some Black Ooze took her hostage, but that was my first playthrough! Now Ryuji's been taken hostage by Ame-no-uzume. :,(

what about goro’s mom being stripper who was raped by shido? tv tropes has it in their jossed section of the trivia page about fan theories (the goro-futaba half sibling theory with the idea ms akechi worked with wakaba; i just assumed shido and goro’s mom two met in a single bar given the mistress/lover line in regular vanilla persona 5) and the ymmv page on the trope harsher in hindsight about chapter four of the dengeki comic anthology (tldr sae got mistaken for goro’s mom; i just thought she was insulted to being call old). even the fridge section has a small section of the same topic. i know tv tropes are prone to errors and mistakes and are thus constantly updating.

persona 5 is no exception to it, but this...is just confusing on my part. reading these make it seems people are thinking royal content for goro is retconning regular vanilla persona 5 content for goro. the thing is, all of regular vanilla persona 5 content for goro is still there.

and to get something out of the way, goro’s mom is not a stripper, but i can see why. a stripper is someone who dances and strip clothes off to entertainment clients. strippers at times, have a few bad customers trying to assault them. this i can let slide, especially considering atlus west could translate goro’s mom job as stripper due to where goro’s mom work at.

that leads the main subjects: what goro’s mom job is, and what is exact natural of shido and goro’s mom relationship. the first question is easy to answer. from a kind anon explaining to me about a vague translation about goro’s mother in his rank six co-op/confidant when tim barry’s stream was still up and going, goro’s mom worked the nightlife business. what the anon/game gave is 水商売. after looking it up, it translate to water commerce which google says it an euphemism for nightlife entertainment business. like, this i can understand where stripper could come from because it is a form of entertainment.

but goro’s mom isn’t a stripper. goro’s mom is roxanne from the police’s hit song: a prostitute. goro brings up having to go to the bath houses because mom brought customers home; a stripper doesn’t do that they work in clubs or joints (unless strippers in japan work differently than in the west). to make it even clearer this is goro’s mom profession, juicedup14′s fan translation of rank six decides to change the nightlife business to red light district, to doubles confirm goro’s mom is in fact, a lady of the night.

now to the second question. as i mention in the first paragraph how goro called his mom shido’s mistress (with localization calling her shido’s lover). kind anon brings up the mistress translation, which i remember in old fan translations of regular vanilla persona 5.

we have evidence shido is a rapist, or was going to reach rapist status: shido was going to drag that woman into his car and rape her if joker didn’t intervene. while shido was drunk on that night, it took shadow!shido a long time to recognized joker was the teenager on that night, and that was maybe less than or a year ago. however, shadow!shido and by extension, regular!shido, realize goro was his son just by looking at him. goro took after his mother (aka, that woman). shido’s time with goro’s mom was over 18 years ago. if shido is able forgot a regular teen who can blend in with the crowd, shido should be able to not remember a prostitute.

unless shido and goro’s mom broke all the rules of what goes on between a prostitute and her client/john, resulting in her becoming his mistress. and remember, goro is 100% certain in regular persona 5 vanilla mom and shido were in a relationship. everything of regular vanilla goro content makes it way to royal and stays; goro just provided more history of the relationship for us -and joker, and by extension the pt because goro gave them an info dump in the engine room- to include with what we know.

with everything out of the way, it begs the question i asked at the beginning: what about goro’s mom being raped by shido? is there another fan translation that provides this line? i watched juicedup14′s video twice to make sure it.

Random Persona Headcannons

So, here are some of my random headcannons I've come up with. Have fun with them and you can use them as well.

When Mishima was im middle school, he started to learn how to carve. He picked it up as a hoddy, because he was bord one day. Thou he keeped practicing and by the time he was in High School it was a talent of his. Thou he doesn't just go about saying it.

Yusuke keep the two lobsters as pets and named them Picasso and Vinci. Thou he would use his allowance to take care I'd them, so Ryuji started to help. And he acts like the lobsters mom.

Minato and Fuuka are Mishima's parents. I know @ask-the-phan-boy also uses this head cannon, but I remember when I first thought if it it was out of kn ow were and I hadn't even seen persona 3 yet. So I'm putting this on the list.

Minato has a pet crab, and that crab is named Tom. He keeps the crab in a tank in his room. Also in AU were he lives/cames back to life, he keeps the crab in a tank in the living room. And sometimes just had it on his sholder. I got inspiration for this from two comics made by @relxion-kunp go see his awsome work!

Fuuka kept Tom after Minsto dies. Unless it's the AU were he doesn't, Atlus why. Fuuka keeps him in her room and would constantly pet him.

Akechi likes Mothman. Basically he would hug a Mothman whenever he got the chance. And when Akira would use one he would get all happy.

Akechi dislikes Jack Frost. So it all started when Jack Frost critical hit Akechi, and he tries to get back at him fir doing that. But Jack Frost just keeps dodging. So he just really dislikes every jack frost.

Akechi just has two personas. No wild card, or jester thing. He just has two. The persona is the representation if the wielder, he just has two!!

Minato is the Universe Arcana after he comes back from the dead. Unless it's the AU were he never died, then he just becomes the Universe. It makes sense, the Universe is infanit. And stares are a hug theme. I got the idea from @suswiboo and you should check him out. He's awsome.

When the p4 cast grow up they have normal jobs. But are also all apart of the police as well, exept Naoto, she's just a detective but is apart of the team the others have. They're a special team of investigators!

Minato can play the guitar. I don't knkw why but I feel he just, can. And hes amazing at it!! Wow!

I’m always torn on my headcanons for Goro’s mom. (And I’ve been thinking about this, so I’m going to share.)

On one hand, there’s the one I think might be more likely in which she died when he was very young, young enough that he doesn’t remember her. He knows what he’s managed to dig up, which isn’t very much, but he’s been persistent.

On the other hand, I’d like to think he had a somewhat happy childhood before everything went down. Mama Akechi doted on her son. Loved him more than anything and would do anything for him. (Honestly, think doodleodds Mama Akechi comics. Those made me change my mind on this front.)

In both circumstances, I truly believe Shido had a hand in her death, just like Wakaba’s, (because we know he’s not above it) just that the Metaverse had no play in it. At that point, Goro was too young to know that it was suspicious (like Futaba) and the note left from her death made it seem like she wanted nothing to do with him, to break his spirits down.

I dont know. I’m always torn, because I want him to have had a loving mother, but chances are, he probably barely knew her, but I want to believe she loved him.

>The Fire Station in Pontypandy. The firefighters there have asked Norman Price and his mother, Dilys, to stay because of the calling card we sent.

Not to worry, Dilys. If anything, this is probably some kind of prank. The only way these Phantom Thieves would want to steal your Norman’s heart would be to keep him from cheating on his school test.

True... Then again, I don’t mind if they do show up. I heard that Fox fellow is an artist and quite the gentleman.

(whisper) I wonder if she knows that Fox is already in a relationship... With the leader.

(also whispering) True. But let’s let Dilys dream a little.

(just joining the conversation) I agree... What are we whispering about?

This is no laughing matter! I got a calling card! The Phantom Thieves are going after me!

The Phantom Thieves haven’t strike yet, Norman. We don’t even know how they do it.

>Then, on puppet strings, we slide down on to the stage to reveal ourselves.

Joker: Target: Norman Price.

Me and Ape came in the place of the older members to help them deal with you.

You give kids like us a bad name. But not for long.

We’re not gonna let you continuin’ whatever you want and puttin’ others in danger.

The beauty of this town as been soiled by your own dark intentions. It’s no wonder your poor mother suffers.

Panther: We know a false hero when we see one. You’re definitely a false hero.

Oracle: The time has come for you to make up for the deeds you have done. Big time.

Mona: That's right. We will take the Treasure and you will cease all the hardship you have caused.

Joker: We will take your heart!

Norman: NO! YOU CAN’T! YOU CAN’T TAKE IT!

Warrior: A little late for that. You pretty much just sold it to us.

Ape: Now it’s time to pay the price. You better be ready.

Panther: Now you will atone for what you did.

Norman: Never!

>Then, Norman’s eyes change to a golden color.

Shadow Norman: Sam is getting to old in his age. Time for him to step down and let a true hero do the work.

Mona: A true hero does his work because it makes others happy. You only became a hero for the fame and recognition.

To me, that makes you more villain than hero.

Shadow Norman: You’ll regret saying that to Normanman!

>Then, Norman’s Shadow changes its shape to fight us.

Oracle: Let’s see what we have here. Persona!

>Necronomicon scans the Shadow.

Oracle: It looks like he’s weak to Bless skills. Crow isn’t here, so Warrior, you’re up.

Warrior: Alright. It’s been awhile. Persona!

>Warrior summons her Persona, Lakshmibai.

>I change Personas.

Joker: Persona!

Mona: Persona!

Skull: Persona!

>Nebiros uses Brain Shake on Warrior. Luckily, she dodged it. Then, Lakshmibai uses Kouga. It knocks him down.

Warrior: Now we can do it. Let’s go!

>After the attack, Nebiros is still up. Unicorn also uses Kouga. It also knocks him down. We decide not to do an All-Out-Attack and I simply attacked him. Zorro uses Lucky Punch. And Captain Kidd uses Assault Dive.

Nebiros: You seem like quite the fighters. But it might be tougher than you think.

>Nebiros uses Maeigaon. It was a heavy hit on us, but we were okay. However, I was knocked down. Nebiros attacks me. Lakshmibai uses Kouga again, but this time, Nebiros dodged it. After I got back up, Unicorn does the same, but he also dodges it. Zorro uses Mediarama to heal us. And Captain Kidd uses Matarukaja to boost our attack. Nebiros uses Eigaon on me. But I dodged it. Lakshmibai uses Assault Dive. It took a lot of health from him. Then, Unicorn uses Kouga and it knocks him down.

Joker: Now, we strike!

>After the attack, Nebiros is still up, but now weaker. Zorro uses Miracle Punch. It didn’t knock him down this time. Then, Captain Kidd uses Charge to prepare for the next attack. Nebiros uses Brain Shake on me. This time, it Brainwashes me. Luckily, Warrior learned Harisen Recovery and used it on me. Then, she has Lakshmibai use Kouga. Nebiros is knocked down again. We decide not to do an All-Out-Attack. Lakshmibai uses Myriad Slashes. With that, the Shadow was defeated. He resumes his human form as a light came out of him.

Mona: And there’s the Treasure. This was easier than I thought.

Skull: Well, he didn’t seem that strong in the real world. Guess we kinda overestimated him there ‘cus he was of high level.

>I take the Treasure. It was a Junior Cadet Firefighter’s Badge.

Norman: That was proof that I was a hero. Why didn’t others see me as a hero?

Joker: Because I true hero does his deeds because it’s the right thing to do. Not to be recognized. You were only thinking about yourself rather than others.

Ape: Just try to be more considerate of others before you leap into action... Even my buddy, Kong, knows that.

Norman: ... Okay. I’ll start thinking before I leap. If it make others, even my mom, happy, I’ll be happy. From now on, Norman Price will be more hero than famous.

>With that, the Shadow returns to his true self and we leave as well.

>The next day...

This is Sarah Jones giving you the latest news around Pontypandy. Yesterday, Norman Price, our town... mischief maker, received a calling card from the notorious Phantom Thieves of Hearts. Later that evening, the Pontypandy Fire Department offered to protect Norman and his mother at their station... However, this was futile as this morning, it was discovered that Norman Price... Had a change of heart. He was found lying in his bed in tears about all the hardships he had caused the town over the years. Currently, Norman is checked in at Newtown Hospital for observation. More news as it unfolds. And now, the weather.

>We were watching on Futaba’s laptop in the van which was parked just some ways from Pontypandy.

Jo: Is this really this satisfying? I know I’ve changed some hearts before, but this...

It’s your first successful heist with us. You’ll get used to it.

Danny: Can’t wait to tell the others.

Akechi: Thank you. But I’ll be fine. I’ve already earned enough money from solving various cases to afford a loft in the city to be more closer to campus.
