1990 - Nelson Mandela speaks about the ANC's support for the Palestinian fight for freedom from the Israeli occupation.
"As far as Yasser Arafat is concerned, I explained to Mr. Siegman that we identify with the PLO, because just like ourselves, they are fighting for the right of self-determination."
This interview was held a few months after Mandela was released from prison, where he had been locked away by the South African government for 27 years, for being one of the leaders of uMkhonto we Sizwe, the paramilitary wing of the ANC, which violently fought against the South African apartheid government. Back in South Africa in the era of Apartheid, what was the problem? Was it that some members of the Black Resistance, including the ANC but not only the ANC, took up arms against the South African regime and sometimes killed innocent people? No, that was not the problem. The problem was Apartheid. Apartheid, whether it is practised in South Africa or in Palestine-Israel, is always going to procure violence because it is a violent, misanthropic system. Any human being living on the wrong end of Apartheid will either die a terrible, silent death or rebel and, often, take with them innocent people.

Reader-Friends, thank you so much for your support! I'm experiencing some level of seizure almost every day now (my meds are very late, ty insurance). So I'm working slower. Taking naps. Cooking good food. I'm so happy I don't have a Real Job, quote unquote. I could never make it work with cancer. I'd fall apart from the stress and fatigue.
I feel your love. you make me feel like it's all gonna be okay.
i have enough funds now to pay for my site space, photoshop etc. Thank you all so much!
today is 2.10.2024. birthday on 2.14. i'll be 33. been fighting cancer for 8 years now! there have been so many days i thought i wouldn't make it. but i keep waking up in the morning.
may my comic bring you joy, strength, understanding and ultimately, confidence to keep going, no matter how broken the road is. And it's not you that is broken. It's the road before you. Maybe someone in the past took a sledgehammer to it. Maybe the broken road is your only choice available. Go slow. Step in the footsteps left behind by others. If you fall, let others pick you up.
love you.

More evidence that the ANC-led government is aligned with Hamas can be found in the country’s actual complaint, which requests a provisional measure calling on Israel to unilaterally and immediately suspend its military operations, before, evidently, even the Israeli hostages are released.  They also allege that, under international law, Israel has no right of self-defence against Hamas – evidently unmoved by the fact that Hamas has pledged to repeat their Oct. 7th pogrom again and again if given the chance.
The Guardian editorial continues:
In addition to the bombing, which has killed at least 23,570 people according to Palestinian authorities, mostly women and children, South Africa’s lawyers cited bodily and mental harm including through the blocking of life-saving aid.
The “authorities” whose death count they cite are of course Hamas authorities, and the figures don’t distinguish between civilians and combatants. They also don’t include the number of putative civilians who were nonetheless involved in military activities at the time of their deaths, or those killed by misfired terrorist rockets.  Further, when the Guardian/Hamas uses the word “children”, they’re including Hamas or PIJ terrorists aged 15, 16 or 17.  Naturally, the editorial also neglects to include Israel estimates that around 10,000 of those killed were terrorists.
As you can see, they also give credibility to false claims that Israel is blocking life-saving aid.
The editorial also adds the following, in an attempt to show ‘intent’ to commit genocide by Israeli leaders:
They [South Africa] argue that there is “chilling, overwhelming and incontrovertible” evidence of intent, citing statements by Mr Netanyahu and other ministers and key figures that dehumanise Palestinians or refuse to distinguish between Hamas fighters and civilians. The prime minister and others have invoked the Old Testament tale of Amalek: God commanded Saul to kill its people without sparing anyone. The defence minister, Yoav Gallant, spoke of “human animals”
The Guardian is being dishonest.
In the Oct. 28th speech by Netanyahu in question, he also said “IDF does everything to avoid harming noncombatants” and that the army was calling on the civilian population to evacuate to safe areas in Gaza.  Further, Gallant spoke of “human animals” two days after the worst antisemitic atrocity since the Holocaust, and there’s no indication that he was referring to anyone else other than the perpetrators of that barbaric massacre.  Further evidence of the unserious nature of the accusation – which editors omitted in order to advance their pre-determined conclusion of Israeli guilt – is that the IDF has consistently mitigated civilian harm in Gaza by warning of attacks in advance, thus forfeiting the strategic advantage, working with hospitals to provide assistance and urging evacuations in advance of military operations.
The Guardian then continues in its deception by purporting to ‘prove’ Israeli leaders’ geocidal intent.
Mr Netanyahu’s 11th hour announcement that Israel had no intention of displacing civilians permanently, and was fighting Hamas and not Palestinians, was entirely cynical – and arguably irrelevant: much of Gaza is now uninhabitable.
The claim that “much of Gaza is now inhabitable” doesn’t prove anything, and it certainly doesn’t show that a few stray comments in fact mean that the state is engaged in genocide.
Much of the country’s infrastructure has been damaged as the result of Hamas’s cruel and illegal decision to place key military assets all over the country, in homes, schools, mosques, hospitals and within other sites considered civilian infrastructure, as well as their booby-trapping of buildings.  The fact that the Guardian doesn’t even once call out the proscribed terror group’s role in the suffering of civilians in the territory is just another example of the outlet’s refusal to assign Palestinian leaders agency.

These past days I have been bombarded by ignorant people trying to explain my own history to me. I am proudly South African and the experiences of my country and the ramifications of it would make me a disgusting hypocrite for not supporting the Palestinian cause.
South African apartheid and Palestinian apartheid have intrinsically connected since their beginning. The exact same rhetoric used during the South African apartheid era to discredit the resistance is being used against the Palestinian resistance.
The ANC were labeled a terrorist group. Nelson Mandela was labeled a terrorist and was only taken off terrorist watch a few years before his death.
The word terrorist should not be used lightly unless you are willing to call despicable people like Golda Meir, Netanyahu, Bush and the innumerable other warmongering, soulless fascists terrorists as well.
I’ve been receiving comments saying I that I think I’m smarter than everyone with regards to this topic. Obviously, this isn’t true but it is a universal fact that outside of Palestine, South Africans have the most insight on the situation.
So DO NOT preach my history to me. DO NOT try to tell me what Nelson Mandela, Winnie Mandela and the ANC were and were not.
Most of these comments come from privileged white people who live in privileged countries and have never experienced a day of real oppression.

I am going to fail at ending A New Calamity.
Today I listened to my parents talk about what kept them from becoming artists, or more to the point, "successful" artists. My Mom's a perfectionist and felt if she didn't get it right the first time, she never would. My Dad blames a girlfriend-stealing high school art professor. They're both real artists, by the way. My Dad, a retired construction worker, draws hyper realistic portraits. My mom doodles, sings opera and fixes computers. They both balk at the notion of sharing their artistic work online. They are in their 70's or almost. A mistrust of technology is not a surprise here.
I am on the autism spectrum. So I start more projects than I finish. I love coming up with new ideas and beginning new worlds. They generally fizzle out before the grand finale, unless I'm REALLY dedicated and doing it primarily for my own enjoyment. So ANC has that going for it.
A professor in college looked at my 2012 final portfolio, beautiful work but missing the all-important photo corners to center the pieces. I'll never forget what he said: You do good work, but you never quite finish it, do you?
I don't struggle with perfection, and I do. I try as hard as my cancer addled body lets me. Then I let it go out into the airwaves, and start the next page or frame or panel or project. I always forget the final touches.
Imperfect is kickass.
If you ask me.
Ever heard of Fail Harder? The basic gist is, try *so hard* that failing to achieve perfection is still an epic win. I'm going to fail at ending this comic in some way. I will put on my sunglasses and watch it burn beautifully.
Not everyone is going to be happy with my ending. I might not even be happy with it. It's based on my fight with cancer, for crying out loud. What kind of ending can we expect? Maybe I'll learn the secret of happiness before I die of cells that went extra. And maybe only my readers will be able to actually put that secret into practice.
I love you all. I love when you let me know how i've inspired or comforted you with this comic. That's what gets me out of bed in the afternoon. (1pm at minimum. Maybe noon.)
In conclusion, dear readers... I don't know what I'm doing, and I shall continue regardless. Peace.
