「live around the bunker」

Due to its strategic importance as a naval base during World War II, Wilhelmshaven has a particularly high density of bunkers. While the city with its civilian architecture has grown around these bunkers in recent decades, the facilities have largely fallen into disuse. Today they look like foreign bodies in the cityscape, traces, scar tissue of a past that was thought to be closed.
