Are there any fans of shake shingles inside and out? This 1976 Salem, Oregon home is a fixer upper and has a pending sale at $275K. It has 3bds, 2ba.

I don't think I've ever seen a whole house interior done in shingles. But, the home is pretty unique. Look at the levels.

It's unusual, isn't it? I kind of like it. The stairs are dramatic, they look like balconies, and there's a great view from the large windows.

The dining room has an interesting counter. I don't know what that is. Look, the wall art conveys, too.

The kitchen's kind of small and dated, but I it's MCM and I could live w/the blue laminate.

The fairly large primary bedroom is nice, but in bad need of either a new carpet or flooring.

It has a terrace that needs repair, but it's a nice feature.

I can't make out what this is. Looks like a desk?

This room off the laundry room looks like a den or family room, unless it's a bedroom? But, it has built-in shelving.

The laundry room is pretty nice.

This is bath #2 of 2 baths.

This room on the lower floor would make a nice rec room or art studio.

Here's another nice terrace or outdoor deck.

You can see the nice big windows from the outside.

The wooded .27 acre property is in a lovely area. The house needs flooring, but the updating can wait, it's livable. Some say that the wood makes it uninsurable, so maybe you'd have to remove it. I think it's a unique design, though.

It was just as ugly and intimidating as I remembered. Vasily handed the reins of his mount to a waiting servant and headed up the marble steps without a backward glance. ... Inside, the halls of the palace were silent as we passed from room to glittering room. Our footfalls echoed on the polished parquet... ... A long, pale blue carpet stretched the length of the room. At the end of it, a group of elegantly dressed courtiers and advisers milled around a raised dais. Above them all sat the King and Queen of Ravka, on matching golden thrones.

“The reality is finally better than my dreams,” Aleksander said, a hand raised to shield his eyes from the late summer sun. A shriek rang out, the tone clearly one of surprise and indignation rather than any actual harm, but he couldn’t make out what the latest trespass was. The glimpse of scarlet might be a poppy’s petal just easily as a ribbon’s furled end. There were no espaliered trees in the garden, no carefully marked beds and borders, just a riot of color and leaves, of hummingbirds and dragonflies and bees, any paths ones that were discovered in the moment, a maze without walls.

“Ekaterin, they needn’t hear you all the way in Os Alta—” Alina called out. Her own hands were both free as her face was shaded by the broad brim of her straw hat. One rested on the gentle curve of her belly, the ring he’d given her catching the light. She was showing earlier this time, her Summoner’s immortality evidently having little impact on the changes wrought in her by her previous pregnancies; she was apt to remark upon this with some exasperated dismay, but Aleksander loved it and made no secret of it. There was another shout, gleeful this time, and then its answer No fair, Timur! in Kosima’s aggrieved treble.

“Let them have their squabbles, milaya,” Aleksander said. He could never have dreamed such details, the scent of the blossoms mixed with the lemon that sat quartered in its dish on the tray, the argument of the children as they ran though the long grass, the heat of the fading sun on his bare forearms. He could never had allowed the garden to grow so wild, the trees to be so thickly hung with fruit, the stone terrace so broad with its wide windows open to the afternoon, unbarred, the perimeter of the property unsecured by staff out of uniform. 

“It doesn’t sound like anyone’s been stung by a bee, anyway,” Alina said, idly tracing the silver handle of her podstakannik. “Or I should say, not yet.”

“I spoke with the hives,” Aleksander said. He’d gone out while Alina and the children still slept, dawn just broken, the light spilling so fair across the horizon the moon had seemed untroubled by its necessary retreat. He spoke and he sang and there was an accord between them, as incorruptible as casked honey. 

“I still don’t understand how that works,” Alina said.

“But it does. I still don’t understand how merzost works, to find myself here and not in some nightmare, but an interrogation isn’t any use,” he said. 

“I don’t think merzost is the same as telling the bees not to mind our badly behaved children,” Alina said but she smiled as she said it, something he heard instead of seeing. 

“They’re not badly behaved,” he said. “They know they are safe. Loved. They know they can shout and Madraya will not scold all that much—”

“I have to scold them a little, Sasha. They’ll be rude little beasts if we never correct them. Rude little beasts who can control the elements and time,” Alina said. “What Kosima did with the clocks the other day—"

“I know. Scolding them a little is what makes this better than a dream,” he said. “Makes it real.”

“You might have dreamed of an empire, a tower overlooking the sea, glory, perfection,” Alina said. 

“But I wanted a garden, milaya. I wanted my own hives and a wife who tastes of lemon, who makes Ivan do something with his face that is very nearly a smile,” Aleksander said. “I wanted to lose a half-dozen games of shatranj to someone who ate all my favorite tea-cakes.”

“If you would stop opening with the Nagendra gambit, you might win for a change,” Alina remarked. 

“I don’t mind losing,” he said. “I’ve won enough.”

Morro Bay, CA

Morro Bay (Morro, Spanish for "Hill") is a seaside city in San Luis Obispo County, California. Located on the Central Coast of California, the city population was 10,757 as of the 2020 census, up from 10,234 at the 2010 census. The town overlooks Morro Bay, a natural embayment with an all-weather small craft commercial and recreational harbor.

The prehistory of Morro Bay relates to Chumash settlement, particularly near the mouth of Morro Creek. At least as early as the Millingstone Horizon thousands of years before present, there was an extensive settlement along the banks and terraces above Morro Creek. A tribal site on present-day Morro Bay was named tsɨtqawɨ, Obispeño for "Place of the Dogs".

The first European land exploration of Alta California, the Spanish Portolá expedition, came down Los Osos Valley and camped near today's Morro Bay on September 8, 1769. Franciscan missionary and expedition member Juan Crespí noted in his diary that "we saw a great rock in the form of a round morro".

The first recorded Filipinos to visit America arrived at Morro Bay on October 18, 1587, from the Spanish galleon Nuestra Señora de la Esperanza; one of whom was killed by local Native Americans while scouting ahead.
