Speculation about Mizu's parents pt. 3

Now, to expand even more on the connections between Kill Bill and Blue Eye Samurai, specifically with the Ronin and the Bride play, the last thing I mentioned was how both Brides woke up and quickly went to seek vengance.

Beatrix woke up from a coma while the Bride from the play came back as onryo, a vengeful spirit with blue eyes.

The Bride cuts off the Ronin's head for what he did

And then the play ends with this shot. Notice how there are four bodies, and none of them are the Ronin because they all have their heads. I don't think any of the four white men are Mizu's father, but I do think they knew her mother and betrayed her, like the Bride from Kill Bill expect that she didn't survive.

I also want to clarify really quickly that it is revealed by the end of Vol. 1 to the audience that Beatrix's daughter is alive, and she finds out in Vol. 2 in the final act of the film when she sees her daughter, BB, for the first time.

Now, I don't think Mizu's mother is alive at all, but I do think the love Mizu's mother had for her could have been similar to Beatrix's love for her daughter. I do think, unfortunately, Mizu's mother was killed before she could be with Mizu again.

Now, Kill Bill and Yentl aren't the only two films to influence Blue Eye Samurai

There is also the influence from a few other films, one of them being Lady Snowblood.

Funny enough, Lady Snowblood actually influenced the making of Kill Bill as well.

I will admit I have never seen Lady Snowblood, but I have seen and read reviews, recaps, synopsises, video essays, etc.

Lady Snowblood is about a woman named Yuki who is on a quest for revenge against the people who assaulted her mother Sayo (the woman in the picture below), killed her older brother Shiro, and her mother's husband (I will get into why I refer to him as her mother's husband).

Before she could get revenge against the people who wronged her, Sayo was sent to prison. Realizing she does not have a lot of time to spare before Sayo dies, she gets impregnated and gives birth to Yuki so she can fulfill her quest for revenge after she dies

Yuki is essentially a representation of her mother's rage beyond the grave.

Another interesting thing is that I believe there are some moments in the film Lady Snowblood is compared to a demon, kind of like Mizu. There's also the fact that Lady Snowblood's actually name, Yuki, means snow, like how Mizu means water. Snow is just frozen water, after all. Although I don't Mizu's mother had her out of the purpose of revenge, I think her conception was an accident.

i was going to type out a huge post about the stage since i snuck in one last full watch before it went away but tumblr killed my post as i was making it and i don’t feel like making another one lol

so new encounter thoughts: clifnotes version!!!!! it’s fitting bc that’s what this stage was anyway lol

i enjoyed myself!!!!! i wasn’t disappointed by any performances, tho since i was ride or die for akira ichiro and ayukawa jakurai, i felt those losses keenly lol. i was also surprised how much i felt like i was missing aramaki sasara watching this play lol. there were some changes to the origin stories, ofc lol, but the stage has always had superior bb takes so i really appreciate them changing ichiro’s more shallow dismissal of his bros in canon to him being scared for them after what happened with samatoki and chuuoku. it’s his biggest conflict in these battles so i appreciate them making it a primary focus

i read a tweet from a fan idk who they originally stanned but said they were considering becoming a hama lady after the stage and abso-fcking-lutely LOL uehara-san is incredible as samatoki, yuki-san can also inspire the masses with his looks and dancing and flow and tho stage rio didn’t have much presence in the play, him opening his heart to samatoki thru their battle and then teaming up with the both of them after fighting together is a great slight change to their origin story

*slams thru the wall like the kool aid man* AND THE NEW BAT HAIYUU ARE ACTUALLY MAGNIFICENT like backwards order since i have Things to say about nakanishi kuukou lol but nakatsuka-san’s hitoya is very cool!!!! his voice envokes almost the same amount of hype takeuchi-san’s voice does for me, like it’s deep and rough when he’s going and it’s sooooooo good. stage hitoya in the legends era cared for jyushi certainly, but i don’t think he flat out babied jyushi as much as he did in new encounter like my god lmao. it might be more indicative of the difference between actor’s personalities lol and i suppose hitoya did try to get kuukou to lighten up on jyushi when they first got started. also, there was this look he gave kuukou when kuukou started to goad him into being on his team that exuded cool charisma i think nakatsuka-san might be another actor too cool for hitoya LOL

i didn’t think it was possible for a jyushi to be even more baby than daigo-san’s but goddamn i think sakayori-san managed it LOL and again i do think some of that is bc of the source material they were adapting. i saw reports that new encounter jyushi was kinda spoiled by his team and i could see the undercurrents of that in the way kuukou would pat his back when getting up or the way jyushi would lean into hitoya and hitoya would actually wrap an arm around him lol. but i’m not complaining ITS CUTE. sakayori-san’s silhouette is so crazy like his build i think is exactly the way i envisioned jyushi’s so i kept vibrating out of my seat whenever he did a flourish and i got to see his figure lmao. i saw a report commenting that he needed to work on his vkei mode voice bc it was hard to differentiate and maybe???? idk i could tell the difference just fine, even if his voices don’t have as much of a gap as sakakihara-san or daigo-san’s

i want to throw up out of excitement thinking about nakanishi kuukou which is how i know he’s officially part of the kuukou brainrot LOL he’s kuukou!!!!!! he is so purely kuukou that everything i feel about kuukou is pushed onto him and i feel like i should apologise rn bc that comes with a heaping dose of objectification!!!!!! but it’s chill!!!!!!! *kicks down a wall* HES GOT MUSCLE ON HIS TINY FRAME!!!!!!!!!!!! like when he gets going going, that jacket starts slipping off and the camera caught just the right angle and lighting to show the contours on his arm muscles and i started yelling!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! thick neck thick calves thick arms HES BUFF!!!!!!! BLESS NAKANISHI-SAN!!!!! and thankfully it’s not for the aesthetic like he’s athletic asf too with jump kicks backflips air somersaults and the like. he is probably the best person to have gotten the role after someone like hirono-san, whose kuukou has shaped the character so thoroughly that even in this new stage, direction choices were made to preserve the hype his kuukou envokes. if the writing on nakanishi kuukou stays the course, it’d honestly be a bonus to have that extra hype kuukou lol. and on that note

I DONT HATE STAGE KUUKOU WRITING LOL🙌🙌🙌

now it’s just an origin story so there’s plenty of time for shit to go awry but rn i’m feeling massively satisfied lol. there were some lines that were raising my hackles but frfr??? that’s just me being sensitive after all these years lol it’s fine. no nod to kuukou’s history with ichiro but tbh i don’t come to the stage for that lol but it made me think of the complaint that nagosaka’s get together story felt rushed compared to the other divisions. and they were lol but i’m not sure if that’s the stage’s fault or the source material. on bat’s side, bc they formed nagosaka alongside the og teams in the stage, ramuda’s development thru bat got axed in favour of jyushi falling for rei’s scam that brought dh together. it’s a choice that further isolates nagosaka so while within the stage narrative it makes sense (does jyushi’s character a disservice tho), it kinda annoys me thinking about the long term lol but it’s probably not going to matter in the long term either so ultimately it’s fine. i guess. maybe lol

one last nakanishi-san ramble and i’m done lol but that fanservice part really showed off his charm lol like when he rolled up on some fans arms spread wide and demanding their ears and attention!!!!!! 😫😫😫😫🙏🙏🙏🙏 and as he was heading back on stage, there was a lone bat fan along that aisle so he paused and leeeeeeeeaned back into that backtrack and flashed the bat hand sign at her and i couldn’t stop my unholy noises even if i tried he’s so cute omfg help he’s adorable like actually 😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭💜💜💜💜💜💜💜💜

Shisui was one of Akami's first childhood friends and later her first lil love. She goes w Shisui to meet Sasuke when she’s 13yr, he’s only a few weeks old but the second she holds him and his chubby baby hand swipes her chin she falls in love. Bc of her relationship with Shisui Akami spends more and more time around Sasuke— he’d be tagging along after the big kids, but she always made time for him. Even if it was 20 extra minutes before a mission or after a long day of training, she’d hide her injuries and play with him instead. She’s one of many Anbu called to the scene the night of the Uchiha massacre. The second she found him all alone she knew she was taking him home and she quit Anbu that night. Akami never felt heard or seen as a child so she tries her best to make sure that Sasuke has a voice. She didn’t intend to take on a parental role; it just happened over the years. She’s always open about his family and ready to listen when he confides in her, she teaches him every single uchiha jutsu she knows (and eventually kakashi does too) so Sasuke can still feel connected to his Clan. She gets him through his nightmares and defends him tooth and nail, she teaches him how to cook and use a sword. No matter what, he's always gonna be her baby and she’ll be his Kami-chan. There is nothing she wouldn’t do for him. Akami and Kakashi knew each other as kids, they did not get along until their traumas sort of forced them to see eye to eye and rely on each other. But it wasn’t a friendship until their early-mid teens, even then it always felt like more. Shortly after she takes in Sasuke they start a tumultuous FWB only to realize they very obviously love each other. Sasuke approves bc Kakashi makes Akami happy and is always there for her (for better or worse) and Kakashi and Sasuke start to have a very meaningful connection well before he becomes his sensei. Yes parent squad ! Sasuke deserves the world and I love that you love him too!!<3 In ATLA Akami would be a water bender, she’s a descendant of the Yuki clan so it just seems fitting for her heritage! Tho I’d be wary of her healing abilities, she’s more of a fighter and I would not put it past her to learn how to blood bend! (She was Anbu Root for a reason💀) Sasuke is fire bb! Kakashi I go back and forth on but I think he would be fire too .I love love love love ATLA and have tried to make an au for her but I find it hard to imagine Akami interacting w the gang (They all just feel so young lol- though she’d probably like Suki and Zuko best) I think that she would get along really well with Piandao! June, Jet and Iroh too. She’d def feel some sort of kinship for Azula (ruthless + manipulative never taught to love, w similar mommy and daddy issues!🤝lol) Yes Yes! I love snakes, they are so beautiful !! Attack on Titan - Season 4 Finale A Rewatch Commentary

(manga spoilers)

-as far as i've seen, the reactions to the finale have been overwhelmingly positive and my heart is at peace. it’s what aot deserves.

-i've been waiting for this since the manga; to see the beautiful jean/reiner bromance animated

-gosh, our ackermans are so beautiful

-hello yuki kaji's bb <3

-the desperation in annie as she fights hallu-chan

-i just want to know! did eren explicitly tell mikasa about the mouth, ymir, and visiting the others, or did she sense it path-like and they just committed to the living together scenario until the end?!

-i guess there were two paths. one path, eren ends up with mikasa and condemns paradis. the other path, eren ends up with armin. in hell. and condemns the world.

-EREN'S REFLECTION ON THE WINDOW HAS THE TITAN MARKS

-YES ARMIN GRAB THAT LIL BITCH'S HAIR (i love you eren, but.)

-how is aot so heartwarming amidst all this tragedy. there's just these moments that are so heartwarming. that’s the point, isn’t it -it's an excellent choice that they delayed eren telling armin that 80% of humanity dies. it makes sense for armin to chat and enjoy the sights when in his mind the only place that's been destroyed for sure is marley, their natural enemy.

-"ONLY IMYR KNOWS" MY ASS! WE KNOW WHY, EREH! because mikasa was a strong woman who loved deeply the one person who could actually get to the paths and bring about change and cause mikasa to bring about change! idiot to the end. i'm sure armin will explain it to you the next time after the next time.

-lil snek armin wanting to provoke a reaction from eren with his mikasa stuff

-it's so armin, to want to bear eren's sins together with him, and it's so damn heartwarming seeing eren so moved at realizing he's not alone and that he won't be alone and i just, argh, ARGH. eren seeing that he's so unconditionally loved, armin accepting his own responsibility, like, "you're not alone, you were never alone, you weren't driven to this alone, you should not be blamed alone, you should not bear it alone." and they're FINE with that, is the thing. they find peace in that, in the fact that they'll share the burden and be in hell *together.* what's interesting to me is that eren doesn't contradict armin. he doesn't tell him "no, you're not going to hell." either he understands and acknowledges armin's complicity and sins in general, or he just appreciates the thought, i can’t decide, but either way he feels relief. eren and armin, i cry. they always had a strong relationship, but this just elevates them to top friendships of all time. the anime strengthens their bond so incredibly much. through their shared fate, friendship, goals and crimes, they will end up together because they paved this road together - along with so many others, with so many good intentions. it's this relationship that shone the most to me in the anime ending, whereas in the manga ending the focus feels more on mikasa (ofc marina inoue also killed it throughout the ep, so she elevated armin by 110%). -and visually: the hair and teeth on eren's hand vs the seashell in armin's, both covered in blood. armin, in the midst of hell, giving eren a symbol of peace, freedom, life. armin, eren's ride-or-die, who formed eren and eren formed him, showing eren that he will never leave him alone, smiling as he says they'll be together forever. eren finding peace and relief in the fact during his darkest moment. -i respect armin's acknowledgement that he is the catalyst of eren's idea of the outside world, and that he played a role in everything. eren the founding titan didn't sprout off the earth like a cabbage, he was led to this by every single person in his life and by his own personality, everyone is complicit. but armin, bb, that's not why you're going to hell if any of you go to hell. i'm pretty sure pre-rumbling, armin is the paradis soldier with the highest kill count of civilians, out of a plan he orchestrated. he leveled marley's port and everything surrounding it. let's start from there, lil cinnamon roll, yes? -it's interesting to see how differently eren's two strongest relationships play out in the end. for mikasa, he creates a dream scenario, a clean-cut version of himself that's genuine but not his current state, the what would-have-been if mikasa had given a different answer. mikasa needs calmness, kindness, an anchor, and that’s what eren gives her, the part of him that she never fails to see even when eren’s at his worst. to armin, he's his current self in all his glory. scared, pathetic, self-loathing, confused, messed-up, kind (eren's always been kind, that's as non-debatable for me as it is for mikasa), insightful etc. he cries, he screams, he reasons, he loves. he hugs armin so hard. he hides nothing, because armin's always seen eren's ugly side and vice versa. armin needs truth, not kindness. in a way, mikasa sees through eren’s worst self, whereas armin accepts eren’s worst self for what it is, and both are right, and both love him as he is, as they are.

-mikasa has been so alone, man. so alone. i HOPE that's jean. i hope it's jean that’s with her. no one could understand her better than he can -excellent choice that they show what levi et all are doing three years later, instead of where they are. nice that they're addressing the environmental aspect of it all. -i don’t know how to conclude this. aot is a masterpiece, and although in many ways it’s been a torture getting to know it, i love it with all i have. i cherish the characters deeply, i adore the story, i am in awe of the world-building, and it’s affected me so deeply and profoundly that i feel bonded to it. it’s something really close to my heart.

Yuki Himezuru Model Sheets

Time to take another crack at translating some XBlaze material! I wanted to get more out by today, but things came up. I started with the second page because it had less words on it...

As always, do note that I don't actually speak Japanese- I'm learning translation specifically for stuff like this.

The translations I post here are the product of my best efforts, online and IRL kanji dictionaries, and machine translation. It is entirely possible that I've made mistakes here. If you spot any, please correct me!

It is pretty cool that I'm starting to be able to visibly tell the difference between Kanji and Not Kanji, and can switch dictionaries right away instead of wasting (as much) time hopelessly looking for a katakana in my kanji dictionary.

Which servants do you think will star in the Devildom singularity? Possibly some of the religious heroic spirits? Though I have an idea where at some point after the holy grail is dumped into Devildom, Yuki starts talking to Justeaze in her dreams and allows her to possess her body from time to time and act out as a pseudo servant/ruler class/overseer for the rest of the time(like Jeanne and Laeticia from Apocrypha)to investigate and fix the mess someone made

I think Jeanne Alter is pretty much the ideal candidate to be the main servant for people to follow. Only one who would probably call out any bullshit, especially when it comes from the demons.

Then there's Emiya. Like Archer Emiya. We need to keep protagonists together, even if it's a technicality. He might give some insight considering the bullshit he had to deal with.

BB decided to help MC to fuck around and find out. Also to mess with the demons as chaos incarnate.

The Count of Monte Cristo makes a brief appearance. A servant that can probably give both siblings a space to talk alone without interference.
