And now for something new
So, here's something I was never planning on doing, but I just couldn't shake the idea... Thanks Ken Penders is gaining a sister blog featuring an entirely different comic franchise!
Introducing... Thanks Steve Ditko, a blog where I read the Earth-616 Spider-Man comics, starting all the way back in the '60s! It's gonna be much more casual and less thorough than how I run things here on TKP, though, which I'll explain in a sec.
If seeing me post weird bits from old Spider-Man comics sounds fun and you need no further info, then just head right on over to Thanks Steve Ditko. But for longtime TKP readers, I know you probably have questions...
Number one: Why?
Spider-Man's always been my favorite superhero, and with the Spider-Verse movies kicking ass and my excitement building for the new Insomniac game, I've been in a Spidey mood. Inevitably, a thought occurred to me: Maybe I should actually read the comics that everything else is built off of and see the wildly varying contributions of all the original creators, rather than filtering them through big budget adaptations. If I can power through One Piece and all these other manga with hundreds of chapters, it can't be that hard... right?
And, well, after a few issues I quickly realized that my options were to either clog up my other accounts with random Spider-Man panels for years, or to just make a side blog. And so the side blog was born.
Two: Will this blog replace Thanks Ken Penders?
NO!!!!!!!!!
Okay but prove it
To allow the two to exist side-by-side, Thanks Steve Ditko will have a different format than what Thanks Ken Penders developed. Rather than an in-depth guided tour that critically analyzes every story beat of every issue, TSD will just be a place for amusing panels and brief thoughts as I casually read the comics at my own pace.
If you've seen me make a few tweets about reading Spider-Man recently, I'm basically just moving that to a dedicated Tumblr. It's a place for me to dump these things so that it doesn't fill up my media tab on Twitter for the next decade. (You know, assuming Twitter is still around in a decade.) There will be many issues where I only post two panels that I thought were funny. There will be issues where I don't have anything to say at all. Maybe I'll reach a run that I just cannot get into, and I start skipping around more. Who knows!
This may sound similar to what I thought this blog would be before it blew up. Aside from the simple fact that there's already mountains of Spider-Man commentary out there and therefore less of a void for me to fill, one of the main steps I'll be taking to avoid repeating the past is not enabling an ask box on TSD. I do not need people to ask me to go into ten times more detail on everything. I do not need to write seven essay-length responses to questions about Spider-Man minutiae every day. I do not need a place for people to chide me for not covering certain scenes, issues, or ancillary series.
It also won't have any kind of update schedule. I'm trying to keep it very casual. I'm reading these comics at my own pace, and if I feel like sharing a moment or commenting on something while doing so? It goes there. That's it.
(On the subject of format changes, I'm also listing the issue, writer, and penciller in the body of every post. This is a thing I wish I'd done on TKP so that people didn't misattribute every weird Archie Sonic panel I post to Penders.)
Three: So when will TKP come back from hiatus? You said it'd come back after you finished SLARPG!
I don't know! Sorry. I have a couple things on the backburner right now for TKP, but I'm not sure when I'll get back to proper updates where I read more comics.
I wanted to bring TKP back this year, and that's still possible. The main hurdle is that I want to reread my own archive (again) as a refresher, which is, uh. A lot of posts. I've developed a high standard for myself on here, and I feel like I wouldn't be doing my job right if I forgot half the ongoing subplots and character arcs and didn't bring them up in my analysis. Especially when I'm discussing the work of an author as obsessed with continuity as Ian Flynn. Unfortunately, the nature of this blog means that every time I go on another long hiatus for Life Reasons I have even more comic continuity to catch up on than last time.
(This is a big part of why I'm making Thanks Steve Ditko an extremely casual blog instead of promising to become a Lore Expert on 60+ years of Marvel.)
Mostly I've just been very burnt out this year after having finally finished a video game that took almost eight years to make. I haven't really had the energy for any creative projects, including TKP. But I feel a little bit of a spark here with Spider-Man, so I'm chasing that feeling to try to get back into the swing of blogging about comics - no pun intended.
So, basically, bear with me on this as I start this low-energy side project. But hopefully folks will enjoy Thanks Steve Ditko as its own thing, too.

Yandere! Professor Aizawa couldn't care any less about his students.
He is solely there to make sure they pass and keep it pushing.
But he doesn't make it easy for them either.
He's known on campus for having ridiculously high standards for his students, therefore he's a tough grader.
So when you showed up, you were no different from his other students.
Anxious whenever you stepped into his class. Worried that you'd maybe fail or do something he wouldn't approve of.
You made sure to not step out of line in any way. You'd never ask questions when you needed to, scared of being degraded. There were times when you even had to use the restroom but held it because you knew that if you stepped out for even a second, you'd miss plenty of information that he wouldn't be willing to repeat just for you.
His obsession (unbeknownst to him) began when he noticed that you often visited the cafe he did.
A small cafe that barely anybody he knew personally went to. It was a cozy, dimly lit cafe that nestled in a quiet corner of the city.
It was nearly always empty, with only a few patrons scattered about, absorbed in their own conversations and treats.
Most importantly; none of his students went there.
He purposely avoided going to places he knew his students went to in order to avoid small talk. He found it to be stress inducing.
It also gave him some peace and quiet. A chance for him to relax on the weekends.
Every Sunday, he would go in, order the same coffee, and sit down in the same corner booth by the same window. Usually fixated on a small notebook filled with incomprehensible scribbles.
His unruly black hair would be up in a ponytail, strands falling messily in front of his eyes.
Every Sunday, you would come in, order the same tea, and sit down in the booth across from him.
From what he saw, you never noticed him. Once your head was in your laptop, it never came out.
Whenever he would walk by your booth, he would see clearly what you were so focused on.
You were studying the material for his class.
He was surprised since majority of this students turn in work only a couple hours before the due date every Monday morning.
He hated rushed work.
But you took time out of your weekend to actually get things done.
He respected it.
Not long after, the sight of you became... delicate to him.
During tests he gave the class, he would sit behind his desk, appearing to be busy with a stack of papers.
His attention wasn't on the papers.
It was on you.
His diligent, hard-working student that sat in the middle of the classroom.
His favorite pastime was pretending to grade assignments when in reality he would steal glances at you. Gawking of your cuteness.
The way you bit your lip in concentration, or the subtle tap of your pen against the desk when deep in thought, he couldn't forget whenever you'd glance up at the clock and a hint of worry would cross your face as you realized time ticked away.—it all fascinated him.
So imagine how much he hated putting in your final grade for that test; A D.
That next Sunday at the cafe, you sat alone at the booth again. This time, you were just resting your head on your hand, forcing yourself to eat a whole bunch of pastries in an attempt to make yourself feel better.
Your hands trembled as you clutched the sheet of paper with the big D in the top corner in red ink.
Tears welled in your eyes, blurring the harsh feedback on the test you'd received not too long ago. The harsh reality of your impending failure in Professor Aizawa's class weighed heavily on your shoulders.
You bit your lip to stifle a sob, your breaths coming in uneven bursts. As the tears streamed down your cheeks, you barely noticed the figure approaching the table you were sitting at. It was none other than Professor Aizawa himself.
It was him. His appearance was difference, you almost didn't recognize him. You couldn't tell if it was from the fact that you sat so far away from him majority of the time, maybe you just weren't used to seeing him up close.
You'd never seen him with his hair out of his face either. The scar under his right eye made him look more intimidating than he already was. But he was still handsome.
"May I sit down?" he asked softly, his voice more comforting than you'd ever heard it in class.
You nodded, unable to trust your own voice. You quickly wiped your tears with the back of your hand and tried to hide the crumpled test paper, but it was too late. He'd already seen why you were in so much distress.
He settled into the chair across from your, his eyes fixed on your face. He was still very intense, but the way he spoke, you could tell that he was being nice.
"I thought you could use some company."
You attempted to smile, but it came out as a quiver of your lips. "Professor Aizawa, I... I don't know what to do. I'm on the verge of failing your class."
He leaned forward, his gaze unwavering. "Failing is a part of learning, darling," he said, his voice carrying some tenderness. "It doesn't define your worth."
You nodded, your tears subsiding slightly as his words offered a glimmer of hope. "I'm just so embarrassed..." you admitted, your voice trembling.
He leaned back, his arms in his lap. He contemplated on reaching out and gently placing a hand on yours. He needed to know if your skin was warm and soft. "Don't be," he said. "I believe in your potential more than you know. You just need to focus on how you're going to rise from the defeat."
You looked into his eyes, your heart fluttering as you saw a depth of emotion you'd never expected to see from the man.
That vulnerable moment seemed to draw the two of you closer.
Whenever you struggled with any assignments, you wouldn't hesitate to approach Professor Aizawa for help.
Surprisingly,, he offered to tutor you outside of class hours. Your first study date being at the cafe of course.
Opposed from his usual style of teaching in the classroom, with you he would patiently explain the work until you were able to grasp it.
Weeks went by and the tutoring sessions became a regular occurrence. Aizawa's hard exterior cracked more little by little with every meeting.
You found yourself not only excelling in his class but also developing a bond with him.
Soon enough boundaries were broken between student and teacher when you found the interactions not stopping at academic matters.
You both shared interests in books, music, art, food. And naps.
One evening, after another successful session of studying, he suggested you both go to a local jazz club to unwind.
You agreed with a smile on your face.
He was thrilled at the thought of spending more time with you.
His little secret.
Sometimes he believed he was way too old to be crushing on some girl. Let alone a student of his.
But those thoughts didn't threaten to bother his mind when he was watching you. Nor when he was in his bed at night, his cock in his hand, pumping up and down to the thought of ruining you.

That's why he loved to sleep.
He loved to dream.

He was a little bit of a nerd, you couldn't lie. You had no interest in him, so you rejected him as politely as you could. He often watched you from afar, admiring your dedication and kindness.
Today, curiosity had gotten the better of him. He'd seen you and Aizawa from a distance, and unable to control his urge to know more, he approached you two, unaware of the true nature of your relationship with the older man.
"Hey!" Midoriya called out with a friendly smile, causing both you and Aizawa to look up in surprise.
Your cheeks flushed slightly as you greeted him awakrdly, "Hi, Deku. What brings you here?"
His smile widened as he approached. "I was just passing by and saw you."
Aizawa couldn't hide his annoyance. He had been enjoying a moment with you only for another student of his to come and ruin it. He shoud be more worried that he's being seen with you outside of class, but he was more bothered that the green-haired kid couldn't take a hint.
Nevertheless, he maintained his stoic demeanor.
You tried to defuse the tension by coming up with a lie. "Yeah, I was walking in the park and saw Professor Aizawa so I decided that instead of waiting till Monday, I could ask a question for an upcoming assignment..."
Aizawa nodded, his eyes narrowing slightly. You were a terrible liar.
Midoriya took a seat beside you. "Oh, you could've asked me too, y'know! Do you still have my number?"
You hesitated for a moment, unsure of how much you should reveal. "Um, no, Deku-"
Aizawa's irritation grew, and he decided to steer the conversation "Midoriya," he started, "Shouldn't you be studying for that retake? You wouldn't want to have an F in my class, would you?"
Midoriya's eyes widened and he shook his head, bowing a few times. "Of course not, Sir! I'll be sure to not disappoint you!"
He excused himself, leaving you and Aizawa alone once more, but not after handing you a piece of paper with his number on it.
Aizawa knew he needed to act sooner than later.
Beneath his calm exterior, a dark obsession was slowly taking hold of his heart.
Aizawa’s initial admiration turned into something much more sinister when he found himself becoming possessive of you, unable to bear the thought of you being with anyone else.
He began to watch your every move, studying your interactions with other students and teachers.
With time, his actions became more extreme. He started to manipulate situations to ensure that he was always the one by your side.
Asking you to stay after class, keeping you out for longer than you’d hoped.
Out of seemingly nowhere, his obsession reached its peak.
The thought of you being away from him any longer, he finally made the decision to keep you.
He snuck into your dorm, his heart pounding as he’d never don’t anything like this before. But he trusted himself.
He didn’t pay to watch those kidnapping tutorial videos for nothing.
He picked the locked carefully and silently entered your room.
You were sleeping peacefully. He touched your hand and you were so warm.
Just like he expected.
His hands went up to caress your cheek, then you stirred. Your eyes fluttering open, only to be met with the sight of your professor looming over you.
Fear gripped your heart as you realized the danger you were in. You tried to scream, but he swiftly covered your mouth, his grip firm and unyielding.
He whispered in your ear, his voice dripping with affection.
“I really wish I could love you the normal way. But you’re gonna have to get used to… whatever this is.
“Now behave and I’ll let you keep that A+.”
You wished that was the least of your worries.

howdy, i'm mabel! it's the 3 year anniversary of unorcadox today, so i've prepared a decent bit of surprises. (and yes that means i started this blog in 2020, which is terrifying to think about.) i'll go into those new things under the cut, but first... check out the carrd linked in the header text of this post :3c
sooo soo so so so where on earth do i begin. uhh honestly let me just break down the new stuff first since i can talk about that more easily.
THE NEW LOOK! ok so like truth be told, i've been a faceless blog on purpose up until now. it wasn't until this summer where i actually liked how i looked or had any solid sense of my own aesthetic or what i wanted to look like. it also made it easier to protect against dysphoria and transphobes in the same breath, as no one could ever comment on any aspect of my appearance, or even the mere suggestion i even had one to begin with! but that all changes now, i'm going to actually have a presence on this blog, as it is MY blog and tbh i'm tired of being so faceless on here. that's why i've been doing more asks and non-edit posts recently, and those will increase in frequency. check out the carrd for more info, my sona's ref, and art credits for assets on here <3
mondays -> MUSIC MONDAYS! so it might come as a shock i'm actually a musician in addition to making stuff on here! i've promoted my music a couple of times by now, but nothing all that substantial. sooo, considering that, i'm going to be replacing monday oc posts with a music post! just a link to a song on my bandcamp and a little description about it. i don't really care if these perform particularly well, but i want to give people a chance to actually hear it without having to deep dive through my entire internet history to get it. i also will be releasing more soon-- whether via compilations of older work or new stuff altogether :3
MORE IN THE FUTURE! i have a couple other ideas up my sleeve, we'll see how they pan out but i wanna keep trying new possibilities on here. i think at this point i've proven my consistency, and it's about time i let myself have a little fun and explore my options. these will be announced individually but probably added here over time as this is the new pinned post lol.

ok so anyways, i do wanna have the mandatory sappy segment because of course i do. i want to say a couple of things but i'll split them into bullet points again bc yeah i do that.
this year has been really good for me and the blog, in most ways it's been the straight up best year of my life uncontested. not everything has gone perfectly, i had other plans that fell through, but hey that's just how life goes huh. at one point, i was easily projected to hit 20k by the end of the year, and now i'll be happy if i hit 17k lol. tumblr has not been that kind to my blog's growth this year and it's making me consider other options in the future, but everything's so scary rn i don't wanna commit to anything.
as for the blog itself, i've kinda been in a weird spot with it for a while. i've been scraping by on here intermittently for the entire year on and off, and i might have some ways to help keep me on top of the ball during the next year, but i also do wonder how long i can really keep doing this, and how long people will still like weirdcore and my work in particular. i've been considering branching out in terms of my presentation, or format, or style, but i feel incredibly weird about doing so.
in my personal life, this is the year i finally started transitioning and seeking treatment for my most pressing issues. i've finally started dating the love of my life, my best friend of 10 years, and despite some interpersonal turmoil all around me, i think i'm finally finding safe ground and knowing what i wanna do next. i don't really talk about it on here because i'm very private about it, but i've been kinda slowly becoming like a Real Adult Person this year. i didn't really have much of a chance to prior and i still am struggling a lot, but hey i know what i want now!
it's really silly to say but this blog still means a lot to me! it's seen me through the craziest times in my entire life, it's brought me so much perspective and knowledge and opportunities i wouldn't've had otherwise. i wake up every day and go on here and never stop feeling starstruck that people chose to follow me. i know tumblr success means nothing but to me it's the only community i've ever actually belonged to, so thank you all.
ok so like i really just don't have much else to say anymore, so i think i'll end it there! thank you all again, i can't wait for year 4 as it's going to definitely be a crazy one lol. let's hope it's a good one too!

Lonnie's in her freshman writing seminar when her phone chimes. It's a distinctive chime, not the usual half-second ping that means she has a text from one of her new school friends. Not the ding-a-ling sound of her mother's text tone either.
No, this chime is a special one. One that she set ages ago, shortly after receiving her first cell phone as a going-away-to-school gift, at the start of seventh grade.
It's Audrey's chime.
It's not like Lonnie's close friends with her anymore. Going evil, trying to destroy the entire country, and also just generally being rude to anyone who exists outside of the pretty Auradon princess mold will break a friendship faster than Lonnie's been breaking her wooden practice swords. She's talked to Audrey a few times since the whole world domination incident, but they're not close anymore. Not like they were as kids.
She can't take her phone out in class, but Lonnie slips the ringer to silent and makes a note in her planner to respond to whatever Audrey wants from her later. After class. Once she's got a handle on her old feelings again.
It's so inconvenient, having a crush.

So, they text sometimes now. Just a little bit. And yes, Audrey comes to her fencing competitions. Just a few of them. Audrey's doing a princess gap year before she goes to rule Auroria with her parents, and she doesn't have too many places to go on the weekends.
It's not a big deal. Lonnie just has to squash down her teeny, tiny little crush on the prettiest girl she's known since high school, and ignore the way that her stomach flips over every time she hears Audrey's special text tone, and remember that Audrey isn't flirting with her, she's just a good friend.
A good, bubbly friend who sometimes says how much she loves spending time with her.
And said she loved her. One time.
They were drinking.

How I'd Make Tumblr More Profitable
Yes, this is going to be controversial, since I know nothing about the behind-the-scenes spending, economics, and all that jazz. But I've been on Tumblr for long enough to have a rough idea of the userbase wants - which is what positions Tumblr in a niche other sites don't really utilize. Most of the points I list here are about improving the experience of existing users, as keeping users might be harder for tumblr than attracting new ones.
Please note that this posts reflects my personal opinions and some stuff I've seen people complain about it. Do not attack me over anything I've written here, it's not worth my time and I will resort to blocking if I'm being bothered. Constructive criticism is fine and encouraged!

Features to Add
Block posts. Xkit has/had this feature, it was great. Sometimes I just don't want to see a specific post, and others probably agree with that.
Send asks and replies from sideblogs. Would literally make a lot of things easier and better.
Delete individual reblog additions from a post. Sometimes, you have a post where there is one"relevant" addition, multiple "irrelevant" additions ("yes!", "[repeated phrase in bold]", "this is a must reblog"), before there is a "relevant" addition again. But right now, you can only remove all reblog additions, not just individual ones. I feel like this would be a neat feature.
Direct blocking of anon hate which also tracks the IP and blocks the associated account(s). No rights for cowards, that's all I'll say.
Features to Bring Back
Reblog chains. Prev tags are the backbone of lots of interactions on here. If I click on someone's username in a reblog chain, I want to see that post on their blog, not their blog starting from the newest post. The loss of this feature is one of the things people constantly complain about in the replies of @changes.
Several text formatting options. As a theme maker, it would be nice to have proper preformatted text again - it makes code so much more legible. Other formatting options I miss are marked/highlighted text and text lines, which are really helpful to visually break apart passages of text.
Features to Ditch
Tumblr Live. There I've said it. If I want to see stuff like that, I have TikTok, IG Reels, Pinterest Reels, and YouTube Shorts. Twitter also has something like this. It's oversaturated, and aparently there are still enough cyber security concerns that it's not even accessible outside of the US and Canada.
Ads in lightboxes. Especially on mobile, there are already more than enough ads on the feed, no need to add more nested inside other elements.
Features that Make Money
Pay for NSFW. If this site allowed full nudity etc. again but hid it behind a paywall, we'd kill two birds with one stone: The site would probably still be allowed on the App Store, and the money influx would be huge. The userbase would also increase again.
(If Tumblr Live is kept.) Pay to snooze Tumblr Live permanently. It's the most complained about thing in changes' replies, so I feel like people would pay on a subscription base just to not see TL anymore.
Pay to increase limits. 250 posts per day is the maximum that can be posted - and there are people hitting those limits. If there was an option to buy a higher limit (500p/d, 750p/d, etc.), people might generally use it. Like those add-on charges for mobile data. Same goes for posts in the queue, posts in drafts, images in a photoset and so on.
Pay to pin posts at the top of a tag or search result. Ebay Kleinanzeigen has this neat feature where you can push your small ads to the top of a search query so that more people can see it. This could be a cool feature to try, as it would work in a more content-aware way than Blaze does.
Pay to buy inactive URLs. There are some really cool usernames on here that are taken by blogs that haven't updated for 5+ years and only have one post (or none at all), and I feel like it would be neat to be able to buy one of these cool usernames attached to an empty account. To make sure that usernames attached to redirect or something else don't get bought, tumblr should send an e-mail to the username owner - if the user doesn't react to that for 3 months, the usernames changed owners. [added 13th July 2023]
Existing Features to Improve
NPF posts. I feel like a combination of legacy and NPF would be neat. Think selecting a main element like in the legacy editor (e.g. video, image, audio) and then adding a caption that can add different content types like NPF does. Or at least create a better overview over NPF variables and release the full base code with documentation to make things easier for the web designers on here. There are more issues with the NPF format but I won't list everything people dislike about it here.
Block people. The block feature should make sure that the person being blocked doesn't see any posts made by the person they were blocked by, even if those posts were reblogged by another user. Also, like IG does, there should be an option to block either just a specific blog or the IP address attached to block side-blogs and other accounts of that user.
Color palettes. The color palette options for the dashboard are generally a nice idea but I think it would be better if there was a dropdown menu to choose a palette from rather than having to click through all the different options. For example, if I want to go from Cement (light mode) to Dark mode, I have to click through 10 options until I reach Dark again. There has to be an easier way. [added 20th July 2023]
Other Improvements Needed
Nuke spam bots. Users are reporting all the spam bots, yet, it doesn't seem like they are dwindling in numbers. Also - at least this is how it's being perceived by the userbase - tumblr isn't doing enough on their end to reduce spam bots. This is definitely something that needs to be fixed.
End hateful and criminal activities. It's the year 2023, yet there are still outright N*zis, violent tr*nsphobes, literal p*dophiles, and other people committing to the daily bit of hate speech and other illegal activities (fraud too considering all those fake GoFundMe sites) on this website. I'm not saying free speech should be banned but there is a bright red line between what is free spech and what is hate speech (or should get you jailed considering fraud and p*dophilia).
A through-out, perhaps even interactive, beginner tutorial. "The site is too complicated to use for new users!" – then explain how it works in easy terms, with examples, images, and videos. Every other application or web app has walk-throughs, just do the same here.
Improved ad relevancy. The ads I see on tumblr are usually so out-of touch with the userbase, and many of them feel like the sort of stuff you see on a spam-ridden torrenting site. I feel like increasing the relevancy of ads to what the users usually blog about would cause a higher click-rate and turn-over-rate than the current ads do.
Summary

I MUST KNOW MORE ABOUT YOUR BOY, CALEB
I really wanted to draw some responses to this but since I've got a feeling I'm gonna be busy in these weeks running up to Christmas and new year you'll just have to have some facts. However I can offer this doodle of baby Caleb and Animal, for some reason this didn't upload in the first post I made with him?
-He's literally vine energy, so many vines fit him so well (Kid Caleb: "Lookat all does chickens!" // Older Caleb "Road work ahead? Uh, yeah, I sure hope it does"). I can go on but I don't wanna fill this with too many vine quotes, I've been wanting to draw a little comic of kid Caleb and Floyd to one vine but that'll likely have to be a newyear thing I work on
-Gas station sushi is his life and blood
-As a child he tried to eat things he wasn't supposed to, a lot. Dirt, flowers, coins, guitar plectrums, rocks, bracelet beads. Floyd more often than not spent his time trying to pry something nonedible out of Caleb's hands when he was little
-No thoughts, head empty, only vibes
-He will and has followed a snail around the theatre for three hours
-Haircutt?? Hairdressers?? No thanks. He's terrified of hair dressers
-He was a bit of a crybaby as a kid
-He likes to collet shiny rocks/crystals and give them to people he likes
-All of his good genes went to his looks and his singing voice Caleb has a total of three braincells, those braincells being the ones that successfully ate dirt when he was a kid
-He can sleep standing up
-Is a natural on the bass and the drums (Animal was excited to show him how to play them) but naturally he leans more towards the guitar
-As well as playing the bass Caleb can also play a ukulele, harmonica and acoustic guitar
-He likes kids, finds them easy going but they can stress him out sometimes
-Talk to him about literally anything and he'll just sit there, you could talk about rock formations, and he'll sit there nodding and humming. He will not understand a word you're saying but he'll listen
-I made a doodle about this in the post I made with Caleb's design but when he was a baby he was terrified of the rest of the band, except for Animal. It took him a while to warm up to them, but he loves them now, the band probably tease him about it sometimes, but they never mean any ill will
-Mama's boy and isn't ashamed about it, it took him ages to call Floyd pa, and when he did call him Pa it was probably right in the morning when the band got up and Floyd didn't even realise until minutes later
-I don't know if I'll make this cannon or not but I've been entertaining the idea of Caleb having some form of stage fright. He's totally fine preforming with his parents and the band and even to some of the other muppets, but to a live audience and infront of a camera?? This might sound silly but I've had the idea that Caleb first goes on stage to preform alongside his folks when he's 13 - Floyd and Janice where super excited as was the rest of the band, Caleb got many pats on the back cuz he was "offically part of the band!". While the band are waiting to go on stage Caleb peaks a glance at the audience through the curtains and he realises just how big the audience is, how many eyes are going to be on him, how - if he messes up - the WHOLE world is going to see on their TV's. Then right as Bobo gives the band the go ahead to go on stage Floyd turns around to Caleb to ask if he's ready to rock, only to see that Caleb is gone - leading to the band having to quickly improvise on stage cuz Caleb isn't there to play or sing his parts. Again this is all a loose maybe idea
-His favourite animals are snails, but he also likes sloths, manatees, penguins and cats
-Sunflowers are his favourite flowers
-He likes it when people braid his hair, he finds it therapeutic
-Out of the band he probably vibes with Pepe and Rizzo the most
-Totally chill with having his nails painted he's down for a spa day

Secret Life Tarot Reading no. 4!
Impulse's turn! And new post format :D
You don't need to know anything about Tarot Cards really... Just that I'm using them to make predictions for Secret Life. If you're curious though, I made a 5 card spread specifically for these readings. I'm also putting all the cards I draw in italics.
First Card - Start
To describe how the beginning of Secret Life goes for Impulse I drew the Knight Of Wands. This card is about passion and readiness for the upcoming adventure. What a wholesome card for this one! It's saying for the start of the season Impulse should go forth with confidence. It could also be explaining excitement, which, again, wholesome and made me go 'aweeee' so...
Second Card - Individual
This card is meant to describe how Impulse is gonna play this season and I drew the Four Of Pentacles. This card talks about stability and control. I'll be honest, I haven't gotten around to watching Impulse play the previous seasons yet but this does seem like something he'd do. Impulse is going to work hard for his "wealth" and he'll get said wealth. What that wealth is? That could be anything from resources to hearts to strong alliances. Although that last one doesn't seem so likely with our third card...
Third Card - Social
This card is meant to describe how things will go in the social aspect for Impulse... And I drew The Lovers in reverse... Yeah... RIP Gem & The Scotts according to this reading. This card is basically saying he's going mess up his alliances or at least an alliance. It might not be Gem & The Scotts (I hope not ;-;) but he's going to do something and ruin an alliance. That or he'll make/have an unstable one
Fourth Card - Big Impact
The fourth card in this spread is meant to say what is the most impactful thing this season for Impulse. I drew the Nine Of Swords. He's probably going to get very worried and anxious over something. That something is likely his health.
Fifth Card - End
To describe the end of Secret Life for Impulse I drew the Seven Of Wands reversed. This card is about how things that are already overwhelming getting more so when you feel like you're being judged. Here I think it's saying that if he let's that get hinder him he's gonna fail... or lose. What's he being judged for? Well my theory is something task related but it could very well be something to do with unstable alliances back in that 3rd card.
My final thoughts and theories:
Overall it seems to start well for Impulse but then things fall apart... If I had to make a guess as to what happens based on this I'd say I've got couple ideas. One thing I'm thinking he's going to get too worried over losing hearts, try some hard tasks that could mess up his unstable alliances, and then said alliances take him out for it. There's also a theory here that he fails to do a hard task because he'd worried about how it'll affect a fragile alliance. Who knows if that's what the cards are describing here or not. There's honestly kind of a lot of ways you can take this and those are just the two I'm choosing to write down. I think he ends up alone though in the end.
Guess we'll see! 'Til next time :D

This is for a fic where Fierce Deity Dadity ends up possessing each member of the LU chain for a chapter, and the idea is that each chapter will only be losely connected to each other and very short because I need to train on keeping things short again. Might end up trying a mix of text and comic panels just to see how i like working with that format, it seems interesting.
And I hate to ask this, but if you have LU interested mutuals and don't mind, could you also reblog this? No pressure! It's just that barely a handful of my mutuals care even a little about LU and I'm gonna need a bigger sample if the poll is gonna work ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

Week Four of Commute Radio. This time I listened to a couple long items.
Lord of Spirits, specifically the "Land of Giants" episode. LONG. Very solid though. Clear and extensive answer to "what the heck are nephilim, then?" which goes beyond the basics into general Old Testament history. I found it convincing, and may come back for more episodes.
Swan Lake, Acts 2-4. Very good! Obviously not getting the full experience, since I can't track the story through the music alone, but I liked it and would listen again Also, *meme voice* was anyone going to tell me John Williams borrowed from Tchaikovsky or was I just supposed to listen to this myself.
Artifexian The second episode had less focus on actual worldbuilding, so I wasn't as interested, but it's still fun and I'll come back for more. Might start picking and choosing my episodes once I have a better grasp of their content, we'll see.
Sacred and Profane Love on "Transfiguring Love in the Brothers Karamazov." I haven't read it, but the episode was very good stuff.
Vivaldi's Four Seasons I have come to the conclusion that I like Vivaldi, which is nice to know. :) Also reminded that there's a Hayley Westenra song that borrows from this. I should listen to her stuff again.
Reply All Another glimpse into someone else's world via the medium of Odd Internet Things. Still interesting and entertaining!
Out Alive Again, a survival story like the last one. I think this podcast is probably a really good resource for getting some idea of how real people actually process near-death situations - during and after - which is something most of us probably don't encounter a lot in the wild.
Presidential John Adams! My fave. Not a lot of new information about him but I liked hearing it anyway. Also emphasis on his whole frenemy thing with Jefferson, which never gets old. (Though I have to register a complaint because they DID mention that the two died within hours of each other on July 4, but they DIDN'T mention the BET. Which I was waiting for!!)
The Good List Another Catholic-talks-about-good-things podcast I'm trying. Listened to an episode talking about Father Brown (not a deep dive, but nice), and half of an episode about morning routines (genuinely interesting, actually). Will keep trying this one, but I think it might be smart to skip ahead to when they changed the format and made them longer. Will see

The Book of Spells by Ella Harrison (150 magickal ways to achieve your heart's desire)
Procrastinated on reading a new metaphys book by opening an easier one. Hah! Take that, executive dysfunction!
This book seems to try to strike the balance between a beginner's read and a reference book, which...is a hard balance to strike. It starts off with sections like "What is a spell?" and "Who can perform them?" and "How do spells work?", all things I would expect from a 101 book and not a reference book, which I would have assumed this book would be from the title and tagline. It then goes into "How to make an altar", a section which is almost too fat and in-depth compared to the assumed familiarity level of the earlier sections, and then... Runework and Sigils? There's a hodgepodge of different things sort of all mushed together in this book, all on different spots on the spectrum of the reader's familiarity with witchcraft, all different strains of modern witchcraft and pagan/pagan-associated practices. Such as:
Runes! (Seiðr, presumably)
Sigils! (Chaos magic)
Floor washes! (Hoodoo/other ATRs)
Consistent rhyming in spellwork! (Wicca)
"So mote it be!" (Wicca)
Shadow work! (Jungian psych/New Age)
Black Salt! (Hoodoo/ATRs)
the K in magick (Crowley/Crowley's cronies)
And, presumably, there's other stuff I didn't spot in the process of reading this book. Listen. It was 11pm. I was tired. I was over it.
So keep this all in mind when I say that in general, overall... It's certainly not the most racist book I've ever read. I don't think it'd hit the top 30. There's a section in the book about how to prevent cultural appropriation in your craft and other ways to keep your craft ethical. That's a new trend in 101 books! That's a positive! But notice how, with such a hodgepodge of sources when it came to the spells, there's still a slippage when it comes to widely-appropriated parts of ATRs, because they are so widely associated with witchcraft that most people find them indistinguishable from the rest of modern practice. I'm giving it an 8/10 on the racism. The author made the effort, and I didn't see any overtly racist statements in the book like I occasionally might from older books.
The book, however... Listen. I don't think there are enough spells in here to be a good reference book, and I don't think it goes in depth enough into the 101 stuff to be a good beginning book. It's not a good intermediate book because it assumes you know absolutely nothing, and yet it still overloads you with way more stuff than you would need or want without going in depth enough to give you enough to make them... Meaningful, I want to say. Everything feels a touch superficial.
I do like how the spells are formatted within the book, though.

It makes the entries really easy to read and simple to browse when you need to decide which spell to utilize. The font isn't ridiculous and there's no aesthetic colors which detract from focus or readability. The illustrations are nice and add, not detract, from the book's contents.
Overall, this isn't an outstanding book, but it's not something I would dissuade people from reading. It's fine. If this was your first book, I wouldn't pry it out of your hands and sobs. It would give you a squat foundation you could build upon, and spells you could feasibly try at home.
If you wanted a real reference book to compare this to, I would recommend one of the Judika Illes tomes. They're certainly not better in the cultural appropriation department, but they also don't really expect you might use every one of the spells in the book, either. It's for reference, not teaching. Once you hold this little thing of 150 spells and then the massive book of 5,000 spells...hoo boy. You'll never compare them again, haha.
Overall? I'll give this a 7/10. Inoffensive, new, and probably worth a checkout or two at your local library.

Heyy, my name is Lumi and I'm new to Tumblr :)
I'm a reality shifter. I have been in the community since around September 2020. Since then I have taken many breaks, some lasting for months. But I always came back. And I hope that I will keep coming back. Simply because I think the concept is amazing. I mean, just imagine being able to laugh with your favorite fictional characters, being friends with celebrities, living in a fantasy world, going on adventures, having a perfect life.
I didn't shift yet, but I believe that I am close. Personally, I have a difficult time motivating myself, that's why I tried starting to talk about my DRs online. First I've posted some videos on TikTok (see end of post) but came to the conclusion that everything is so fast-paced there. I just feel stressed thinking about how long I haven't posted anything there when I see my mutuals content. I also find it hard to organize the topics, everything is kinda muddled up. That's why I decided to try out a different format. I haven't used this platform for anything but reading fanfics yet, so I don't know much about blogs and such. But I definitely want to give it a try! Let's just see how this goes . . .

The Liyue and modern GI are my main DRs. I've also been rewatching shows and anime that I loved years ago hence my Haikyuu!! and MHA DRs. They are my main focus as I'm writing this. I change my race in some DRs. I don't see why I shouldn't shift to realities where I have a different race or ethnicity if that reality already exists.
I also usually change my age to be younger. Since I'm legally no longer a minor some may not like the idea. I am childish and don't feel like most people my age. Most of my friends are 14 - 17 and I still feel like a kid. I want to have normal, fun teenage years since I didn't have that in my CR.
I think that's it. If I forgot anything I'll just add it later.

Heaven and Angels Headcanons
((First off, I'm doing this mobile so my options are weird such as no title? Boo. Anyway, I kind of ended up having to format this minimally so it's more in essay/paragraph form rather than more digestible bullet points. As mentioned before, won't likely actually use any of these because any threads with angel or Heaven characters would be using their headcanons. But since I had thought about making a fic of Sir Pentious getting used to Heaven that I then scrapped, I had all of these anyway. So I'll put everything under a Read More for y'all to peruse as you see fit.))
There are two main philosophies that Winners have when going about their afterlife. The vast majority of people don't fully go to either extreme but operate somewhere in the middle (though there is certainly a vocal minority espousing the ideals of either end).
The first is to treat the afterlife as an extension of the mortal life. The more extreme of these views take this to mean that one must actively remain pure to "deserve" Heaven. However, evidence against this is the fact that no Winner has been known to be cast down like Fallen. The majority of people instead use this in the sense that being good to one another is encouraged. There is not a form capitalist society and all needs are met. Also most people tend to like an idea of peaceful familiarity and just go about their days in what is essentially an ideal version of their previous lives.
The other philosophy is that the afterlife is a reward or a permanent vacation from the mortal life. You did your time doing what was needed to get here, so you celebrate! Let loose! Do what you couldn't or wouldn't before! The most extreme of these do basically anything and everything, ESPECIALLY stuff that would be considered sinful. The reason being is that they refrained from such things in life and nobody has been sent to Hell after the fact, they can indulge now. Though once Sinners start manifesting in Heaven, there will be a major shakeup in this. One of the key differences between how Hell operates and the extreme end of this philosophy is that there's a feeling that the acts are not permanent, consequential, or "real" in some way. If someone dies, they just come back! Anyone operating or living in this part of Heaven is also well aware of the fact that in this section, anything goes, and gives implicit consent. For example, they wear some kind of notation of what things they consent to in the otherwise PVP zone. So even in all that chaos, there's an underlying organization to it.
Most Winners though don't go nearly that far, or at least not long-term. They might try things here and there, or maybe a lot of things for a short time, but end up going back to a "normal" way of life after. Again, like that side of things are a vacation.
There are also three main zones of Heaven. The Entry which consists of the Gates, Heaven's offices, a residential area that serves new Winners until they find a more long-term living situation, and a small commercial district mostly advertising the other offerings in Heaven or serving those living in this zone.
Then there's the main Residential Zone. This is made up of multiple areas. A lot of people like living in groups similar to their own time and place on Earth, and areas reflect that. Other like living in more timeless or fantastical areas with different themes. There are also different size homes/lots depending on if you want to live with your family/descendants/ancestors, or in smaller groups or even on your own. This zone also has commercial districts, but often in the individual areas to fit the needs of those specific residents. Most people settle down, but there's nothing against moving from area to area to try something new.
The last zone is the Recreational zone. It houses all the entertainment areas, including the PVP area mentioned before, beaches, shopping centers, concert venues, etc. It also includes an Education Center where Winners can learn skills they've always wanted to try from the various experts through time. Similarly, there is a Simulation Center where you can try out new experiences or lifestyles in an even more temporary fashion. For example, if you wanted to pursue your dream of being a rock star, you could either learn the instrument in the Education Center and try to make it, or fake the skill and move right onto the success fantasy in the Simulation Center. In the former, you learn for real and the success isn't guaranteed. In the latter, you don't need to out any work in, but it doesn't exist outside the Simulation.
As mentioned previously, Heaven is very organized. Almost suffocatingly bureaucratic if you want to do more than simply enjoy Heaven's offerings. Based on Lucifer's abstract flashback about his fall in More Than Anything, I've determined that there are six main angels that have their own departments. Sera being only one of them.
1. Admissions/Hell (Sera)
2. Earthly Communications
3. Winners
4. Transcendence
5. Infrastructure
6. Heavenborn
Admissions/Hell
These are together since when this department was originally formed, it was under the idea of "who is or isn't accepted into Heaven?" With Sera coordinating efforts as needed. But over time, the communication with Hell became less of a priority until Sera really feared sudden population boom would threaten Heaven. It makes most sense that this happened during the Flood and all of Earth's population was cast down. Shortly thereafter, the Exterminations began and communication lulled besides the Hellborn pass negotiations. At least until the events of Hazbin Hotel. The main durites of this department is getting new Winners situated, including becoming orientated with Heaven. There is a partnership program where certain experienced Winners can volunteer to show new ones around until they get comfortable with things and settle in. (My OC was in this program).
Earthly Communications
This department mainly dealt with anything on Earth itself. This includes C.H.E.R.U.B. and any other "divine interventions" that may be called for. It also allows for Winners to see or intangibly visit locations around the world for those who had always wanted to travel. Winners can also watch their living friends or family from this department.
Winners
This department manages affairs for Winners. Managing disputes, making sure to set up whatever recreation they want, and just making sure things run smoothly on their end.
Transcendence
For Winners when they are ready to Transcend or move on, this department facilitates it. It's billed as either reincarnation or "becoming one with the universe" and so on, but just like how Sera and them don't actually know what it takes to get into Heaven, this department doesn't actually know what happens when you fade. It would be a really big scandal if it were to get out.
Infrastructure
Mostly just makes sure that any buildings needed are made and maintained. This department also manages the resources used by it's inhabitants. It's not quite as limitless as they let on.
Heavenborn
Simply manages the creation and behavior of purely Heavenborn beings such as the cherubs, etc. Just like how Sinners can't reproduce, Winners can't either. This department takes things very seriously in order to try to prevent anyone from Falling.

Ramble#11
This month's episode we focus on Naoki Urasawa, a living manga legend, a true goat of the medium and my number 1 favourite mangaka. Ever since I started this podcast, at least one episode on him was inevitable and even if I don't stick the landing I hope this encourages someone to go check out and even support his brilliant pieces of art.
I'll be following the usual format of things read this month and then going over older reads, this time going from least to most favourite. Afterwards in what I'd call a part 2 I'll be doing a bit of off the cuff ranting.
So without further adieu, let's get into it!
Urasawa works read this month:
Asadora! (2018 - present with 37 english translated chapters):
A young girl named Asa has her home town destroyed by a Kaiju that only she saw. For those unfamiliar with the term Kaiju, it's basically the genre of film centered around giant monsters, think Godzilla. Anyways, years later, after training to be a pilot so she can track the monster down as she's its only living witness, she's approached by a certain organization that's been tracking the beast, so she can be trained to defend the country.
Not really a first time read but the first time I checked it out in 2020 there was only like 15/20 chapters out so with there being like twice that now I figured I could put it as new + bite me
Not much to say as again there's not that many chapters but it was my first time seeing a female lead from urasawa and I thought it was cool that the first page of the first chapter set the time frame for this world threatening disaster as 2020, which was when I picked it up and around the time COVID kicked off, even though that chapter itself came out in 2018.
Yawara! (1986 - 1993) 331 chapters total but only 92 in English:
Trained by her 8 time national judo champion grandad to get an Olympic gold, Yawara has been doing judo since she could walk. But as she enters the springtime of her youth, she just wants to be a regular, cute and fashionable girl.
Now I figure some of you may be wondering "What's the problem? Why can't she have both?". Well firstly, you know fiction, there's no story without conflict no matter how ridiculous. But as the mc would put it, judo just isn't cute!
She thinks she'll be unapproachable if she becomes known for grappling and throwing people around which tbh is fair but if you know anything about training to be an athlete, especially an Olympic level athlete, the time dedicated to training is no small thing. In the manga her grandad makes her train every day starting at 6am before she goes to school then after school they train again at 6pm.
Again not the very first time I read it, basically I started like a year ago but only read like 5 chapters then got upset that it wasn't fully translated. Cause I figured if it's been complete since 1993 and in 2022 there's only 92 chapters translated I'd be blue balling myself to hell with what I assumed would be another urasawa great (side note, more reason for learning Japanese so I can be a translator)
And I'm feeling bittersweet in being correct in my thinking because I really really dug it. Very neat aesthetic I've gotta say as urasawa plays up yawara trying to be cute and dressing up and so forth. It was also my first time seeing urasawa not doing mystery, as Yawara is a fun light-hearted slice of life but it still has a great cast of distinctive characters with brilliant dynamics just as I've come to expect from all of urasawa's works.
Master Keaton (1988 - 1994) 144ch:
I'm just gonna go with the final volume's description here as it's pretty spot on
When the wall that separated the East and West falls, the twentieth century comes to an end and brings radical changes to the world. During this turbulent time, Taichi Hiraga Keaton has difficulty finding a job in archaeology even though his long line of cases as an insurance investigator doesn't seem to end. As he navigates through dangerous adventures, Keaton encounters some bittersweet lives…
If you glazed over for a minute there, basically the mc loves archeology, wants to be a professor and have his own dig sites and such but because of skills he picked up in the army, he has much better luck being an investigator.
Great scenery, neat characters but pretty episodic to the point where I'd want to call it an anthology as characters don't really carry forward much. There's a lot of nitty gritty details about wars, factions and etc. around the world in that time period which can be a bit overbearing at times but that's what give the characters and situations the impact they would have gotten if they stuck around longer.
Also gotta say it's pretty educational, not just in the mc basically being macgyver and building self defense weapons out of whatever is on hand kinda way, but it takes a good look at Europe and how fucked it was during that cold war period as it indirectly and directly references many real world events. Maybe it's just my lack of exposure but I haven't seen that much media outside of documentaries really pinpoint Europe and the effects of war there and not on a large high level country scale, I mean like really looking at the lives of civilians and how they lived and died during that time.
Lots of variety, as I said it's very episodic as almost every chapter has a different subject ranging from finding a lost animal to settling spats between holocaust survivors or proving a statue is fake
I also have to mention something I've always appreciated about Urasawa's works that really stood out in Master Keaton for me and that's the diverse and well done racial representation. There's people from everywhere and it doesn't have that feel manga tends to have of like a Japanese person drawing what they think other people look like or something, it just looks like a person drawing other people, feel like I'm wording that weirdly but that's how I'm wording it.
Happy! (1993 - 1999) 254ch:
One day a high school girl, Miyuki Umino that takes care of her 3 younger siblings on her own, is approached by Yakuza who tell her that her older brother ran out on loans amounting to 250mill yen, approx. 1.8M USD) and now she needs to pay up or be sold into prostitution.
While wondering what to do she sees on the news a tennis player earned that amount in winnings so she decides that despite the difficulty she has to try.
Pretty dark premise and I'm telling you she goes through some dark shit but it's a great story, brilliant characters as usual, loveable idiots abound, antagonists that you can really really hate. You don't have to be a fan of tennis at all to appreciate the heartwarming n heart wrenching ups and downs. Teared up at least twice.
This was my favourite Naoki Urasawa work I read for the first time this month, this manga really showed me Urasawa really has THAT range fr.
Older Urasawa reads:
Monster (1994 - 2001) 162 chapters, this was my 3rd read:
A promising young doctor, Kenzo Tenma, ignores his superiors orders to operate on their mayor and instead operates on a young boy called Johan, that came in first, as he firmly believes all lives are equal. The mayor dies and the boy is saved but this leads to unfair treatment by his superiors and being left by his fiance. Soon after, not only does the young boy disappear but his superiors die from poisoning, leaving him, staff and ofc the police baffled.
10 years later during a string of serial killings, a key witness ends up being a patient of Tenma's but is killed for trying to reveal this by Johan, the real killer, now a young man who reappears in front of the doctor. Even more shockingly, he reveals himself as the one who killed Tenma's superiors all those years ago. Because of similarities in the murderers then and now, police pin it all on Tenma so he goes on the run across Europe to find the young man and clear his name.
Undeniably engaging from the jump, the ever building draw being who the fuck is this Johan dude? where'd he come from? why the fuck is he killing all these people? etc. etc.
Great side characters as usual with interactions that I can only call truly genuine whether they were sweet or sour.
There's a lot of nice interplay on the meanings of life and death, the notions of fear and hope, humanity and the inhumane, all weaved into every intricate thread of this story.
Not to be a hater but personally its relative popularity, as in relative to his other works, is a little upsetting. I get that it was his first critically acclaimed banger but he's done so much since then that isn't talked about enough for me. His later stuff not having anime adaptations doesn't help but if you've read and watched enough media adaptations in general you know that tends to mean diddly squat in terms of the quality of the source material . The industry unfortunately runs more and more on fan service every day.
Pluto (2003 - 2009) 65 chapters, read 3x:
The destruction of one of Earth's greatest robots and the murder of a leading figure in international robot rights seem unrelated at first, but both bodies were made into some bizarre collage with the central motif/pattern being a pair of horns placed by their heads, making them obviously related. The confusing thing is that the only thing that could destroy one of Earth's greatest robots is an even stronger robot, but could a robot really be related to the murder a human? Gesicht, a robot detective is put on the case and eventually comes to realize that all of Earth's greatest robots, himself included are being targeted.
As you can expect with any futuristic robot media there's an exploration of the concept of humanity vs the artificial but it's done so tenderly for lack of a better word and I'm not sure how often it's done that way in these noir type beats. Especially from the viewpoint of a robot mc.
I've probably said this for all his works so far but there's brilliant cast, great dialogue, great art that the context pretty much demanded and even though it's based on an arc in Osamu Tezuka's tetsuwan atom, better known as astro boy in the west, the greatest robot on earth arc to be specific, Urasawa really rose to and in my mind completely surpassed the challenge of adapting the work of he who is called the God of manga.
Also like man it's so crazy good for how short it is, please read this.
20th century boys (1999 - 2006) 249 chapters + 16 in the wrapup sequel 21st century boys, I've read both 2x:
The story follows a group of childhood friends, now adults who are trying to patch together their memories in an effort to uncover a conspiracy that seems to be based on games they used to play about saving the world from destruction.
It's pretty difficult to describe the events of the story further but it definitely stands out in my mind as the grandest scale of anything Naoki Urasawa has ever done though I wouldn't put it past him to go further.
As I said the story follows friends trying to patch together memories so the time period goes back and forth quite a bit. It can be pretty jarring trying to follow it strictly by year so I'd recommend just thinking about it in three tone periods, namely; childhood, present day and miscellaneous flashbacks. Separating childhood from miscellaneous flashbacks as their childhood remains within a constant range but as the story moves forward and present day changes so does the range of flashbacks they have.
That should hint a bit at the scale of this whole thing but outside of the breadth, there's a depth of characterization and dynamic that I haven't seen elsewhere.
Side note, if the length is frightening it's the type of read I'd recommend savouring anyways.
Billy Bat (2008 - 2016) 165chapters, this is my 4th time reading this:
A Japanese American mangaka/cartoonist, Kevin Yamagata, suddenly has his workspace taken over by police claiming they're investigating one of his neighbours for being a Soviet spy. In the middle of protesting this, one of the officers sees the comic he's working on, Billy Bat. He says he's seen it before in Japan, basically calling Kevin's work a copy. Kevin takes offence but admits he was stationed in Japan for some time and may have seen it and subconsciously copied it. As one of the lasting lessons his father taught him was that you can't steal people's stuff, he goes to Japan to seek out this potential original creator.
The story unfolds as he meets an artist that tells him the bat is actually something passed down throughout history, throwing him right into the middle of several conspiracies concerning real key incidents throughout modern history.
On top of everything, the bat starts talking to him, urging him to find a supposedly important and immensely powerful scroll.
My favourite piece from urasawa, brilliant in every respect, please please please please read this.

The first was 'The greatest mangaka of all time' by the masked man and second was 'A guide to manga's greatest master' by the omnibus collector.
The first video is about 10 minutes long and uses the quality of Monster, 20th century boys, Pluto and Billy Bat as their rationale for why Naoki Urasawa is the greatest mangaka of all time.

The second is 20 minutes and pretty much covers Naoki's entire career and body of work, giving pretty rad descriptions of all his pieces, inspirations for them and a bunch of other really neat info. Bonus For those of you who are int that sort of thing, they also show the physicals they own off all the manga they talked about. really appreciated that. thank you omnibus collector.

Now! Onto the cool shit! Jk armour is also cool shit. But still.
Regarding my new format, I wanted to do shorter posts, but I'm still on the fences. This would entail one sword or set of armour per post. Let me know if that's something you guys would prefer, or if you like my longer posts.
Furthermore, I'm going to try to include the specs of the swords I review, (length, weight, etc.) I will be doing this to the best of my knowledge/what I can find, so don't come at me if your dude bro who thinks katanas are the greatest sword in history is like "actually, Aragorn's sword is-", I don't care.
Speaking of Aragorn's Sword first up is Andúril, for obvious reasons.
Length: 52.8 inches, or 134.1 centimeters
Weight: 3.9 pounds, or 1.81 kilograms
These are the only two important measurements (/j).
Firstly, this thing is heavy. Ik, "duhh, it's longsword," but still, it's heavy. I personally wouldn't use this in any fight ever, but that's just me.
Other than the weight, this thing is fucking amazing. I've held a replica before, and damn if it doesn't feel good. My only issue was the ends of the crossguard somewhat get in the way if you use it wrong.
I do like the grip being half leather, I think it's an interesting idea. Normally, I'd say bare metal grip is atrocious, because it normally is, but this is a nice balance.

Next, we have Thorin's sword, Orchist:
Length: 37 inches, or 93.9 centimeters
Weight: 3.7 pounds, or 1.71 kilograms
Firstly, I think it's so fucking funny how petty Thorin is. He sees a perfectly preserved sword lying in a cave, and (rightfully) goes to take it. Gandalf says it's elven and the look of pure *disgust* that crosses the sons of Thráin's face is golden.
Anyways, onto the actual sword. If I remember correctly, it’s a one-handed sword for elves, but since Thorin is a dwarf its two handed. That's where my biggest problem comes in, as a two-handed sword, I hate it. The fact that it's single edged and shaped like *that* just horrify me. That’s only if I'm looking at it as a great sword. I could just critique it as a one-handed sword, but that's not how it's used in the movies, soooo
Another thing, the grip is a really strange shape imo. Firstly, I don't like that much taper, it looks as though it'd be unwieldy. And again, the shape of the grip and crossguard just encourage a one-handed hold.

Next, The Witch King's sword, unnamed:
Length: 54.6 inches, or 138.6 centimeters
Weight: 4.4 pounds, or 1.93 kilograms
This sword has a really bare bones design, and I am all for it. These dudes don’t care about flashiness or anything like that, they care about getting the job done. They might benefit from some sword care though, that blade looks a little rough.
Okay now to focus up; I think this design is fabulous. The handle is rather longer than I’d have expected, but I don’t actually mind that much. In fact, I’ve always been rather partial to extended grips. The thing is, I meant it when I said it was bare bones, but there’s not a damn thing wrong with that.
For fear of being repetitive, I’ll just say that it’s an overall good design, and that I’d love to use it.

Next up, Aragorn's Ranger sword, unnamed:
Length: 47 inches, or 119.38 centimeters
Weight: 4.4 pounds, or 2 kilograms
I'll be honest, I wasn't going to put this one on here, but then I bought the sword. It feels great in the hand, and the grip is really nice. Again, it's a very simple design, so it's hard to say a lot without being redundant.
I will say that for what its purpose is, it's a great sword. Definitely one of my favorites. Appeal does get a lower rating because it's a little bland comparatively.

Next, there's the ringwraith sword, unnamed:
Length: 53 inches, or 134.62 centimeters
Weight: 12.1 pounds, or 5.49
Okay really quick, I'm a little skeptical about the weight here. My usual method is to look at the swords available for purchase and see how much those weigh, and this seems wildly heavy.
Anyways, as far as the sword itself goes, it's definitely...unique. It's cool looking, no doubt, but it looks really uncomfortable to hold honestly. The crossguard is my main concern, it seems like it could easily hurt the wielder. Other than that, it doesn't seem so bad.
It's clearly meant to be used like a single edged sword, and it very well may be single edged, which is another part that confuses me. Most two-handed swords - because let's be clear this *is* a two-handed sword - are double-edged, and symmetrical, so this particular sword doesn't make much sense to me.
Ignoring those two aspects, I wouldn't mind using it to be honest, if not just because it's cool looking.

Next is the Bilbo's Sword, Sting:
Length: 23 inches, 58.42 centimeters
Weight: 2.3 pounds, or 1.06 kilograms
Okay this thing is insanely small; in my opinion it'd be extremely awkward to wield as a full-size human. I'm aware it was meant to be a dagger, hence Bilbo using it as a sword, but even as a dagger I think the dimensions are wack.
Aside from the weird proportions, it's a nice blade. The shape of the blade is different, but it doesn't necessarily take away from the functionality of it. If given an edge, this blade will hold an edge and work just fine.
The hilt is okay, it just doesn't work well for a sword. And since I judged Orchist as a two-handed sword, I have to judge this as a sword as well. For that reason, I dislike the grip and crossguard. They're disproportional to the blade if it'd being treated like a sword. Honestly, they're disproportional in general.
Realism: 7/10
Appeal: 5/10

Next is the Morgul Blade:
Length: 25 inches, or 63.5 centimeters
Weight: 5.7 pounds, or 2.6 kilograms
Holy hell do I have notes. Firstly, why are all these bad guy weapons so dirty, like guys take care of your weapons please. Frodo was only so messed up because he got tetanus from this thing, I swear.
As far as the actual weapon, the blade is fine. It has a really harsh point, so it'd be more susceptible to chipping and or breaking off entirely. The grip also has a really intense taper, which I've always found to be uncomfortable and unwieldy.
Now for the most obvious problem. The horrible, disgusting, Gods-awful crossguard on this thing. Why, why does it point *towards* the holder!? That's the worst and I hate it. I'd rather fist fight a white warg than use this thing.

Last but not least (because the morgul blade was the least), Thorin's Regal Sword, unnamed:
Length: 37 inches, or 94 centimeters
Weight: 3.9 pounds, or 1.8 kilograms
First of all, there's no way that weight is correct, it's got to be at least five pounds, but alas. I *do not* like this sword at all. It looks more like a wood splitter, there's no way that can hold a good edge. Not to mention how wide it is, good luck wielding it with one hand.
The grip in itself looks uncomfortable, even if it weren't stupidly short. The crossguard wouldn't be very helpful at all, it barely comes out passed the blade. The weird points coming out of the edge, I'll be honest I'm not sure what those are, or what their purpose is.
I've saved the worst bit for last, the massive hole in the ricasso of the sword. That is obviously one of the most important parts of the sword regarding integrity, and they have put a big hole through it. Fools, I hate it.

Hello Steph! How are you? Any plans for this summer? So. The other day I discovered Sherlockbbc-fic on LJ. I love fanfics and most of all I love collecting them on my pc. So I was thinking "damn, I'm free this summer. What if I save some intriguing fics from over there?". So I think I'll use the method you talked about days ago, the copy -paste on Google doc. Do you think this is the best way to do it? And what about the formatting of the page? The fics fills on LJ haven't that much of formatting...

Ah, I'm alright. Feeling SO much more like myself now that there's sunshine and my SAD has subsided for the time being. Just looking forward to spending a lot of my summer outside again and trying to get myself back to FEELING better, you know? My mind is slowly getting better with therapy and sunshine, and now I'm looking forward to my distance walking, which I LOVE doing (I'm talking like 20 KM on the weekends). Need new shoes though, LOL.
Ah, plans for summer SO FAR is going to see my sister who I haven't seen in over 5 years because of work and the pandemic. I miss her terribly and very much looking forward to spending a week with her and her husband. AND I'm thinking of taking August off of Tumblr so I can catch up and finish my FTH pieces, and just... not feel obligated to post daily. I usually take some time off in August because it's my birthday month, but I'll see.
Thanks for thinking of my tutorial for finding a method to make your own ePubs, LOL <3 Ah, yeah, by formatting I meant just, like, line breaks and basic bolding of chapter titles, etc. Basically making it so YOU personally can comfortably read it. Google Docs works almost exactly like MS Word, so you can make it look all pretty and nice, hahah. Like, some people put weird spacing in stories, or like if you're copying from FFNet or livejournal, it's also going to copy-over avatars and maybe some hidden content that you'll want to delete before making it something you'll want to read :) That's all :)
PERSONALLY, probably not the BEST way to do it, but as someone who is very particular and picky and I LIKE the strange monotony of cleaning up files, I wouldn't mind doing it as something mindless to do while watching a movie.
So yeah, it's more all a personal thing. Try a few before committing, and maybe you'll come up with a faster, better method! :) I mean, look at my blog, I have a streamlined method to quickly find and rec fics these days because of the initial monotony I spent doing all of that, LOL.

God I’m trying to imagine the absolute chaos that would come from Brennan getting to do a time loop. Probably would take first place in the time loop list but okay, for this it’s just about the chaos.
Fantasy high
I mean it’s the bad kids, it’s always about the chaos but you know any one of them stuck in the loop would immediately do something stupid and get it reset. I also don’t think it would be possible to just do one kid stuck in a loop given the format so you would have to have all six. Adaine and Riz would be taking notes and seriously trying to break it while also Adaine would probably do things like call the others elves out and be like “this is your oracle speaking, shut up”. Riz would get distracted and use the time to also solve a mystery that’s been bugging him or something while also getting so anxious about the loop because what if it does have an end and that end is the end of the world.
Fabian, Kirsten, Fig, and Gorgug are more just going with the flow. Like Gorgug would either be helping Adaine and Riz or using the time to get to know his dad more. Fig would be making new songs and testing them out and also taking advantage of the time to take Ayda places except I could see her getting frustrated in partway because Ayda doesn’t remember the dates from before since she’s not in the loop. Kirsten is out there trolling as many people as she can and def pretends at some point cause she can tell what they’re about to say that she’s the new elven oracle which Adaine ??? “you’re not even an elf but also okay, please take my job.” Fabian is unraveling the patriarchy within himself still and also just using the time like it’s a vacation (“Oh my god, Fabian, this isn’t a vacation, we can die from this.” “We’ll just reset Riz, relax”)
Starstruck Odyssey
Even more fucking chaos. No one knows how to fix it. At one point they accidentally blow up the whole universe. Margaret has a breakdown because her calendar function is made useless on her planner until she decides that this is fine actually and calls Lucienne every loop. Skip once takes over Aurora Nebbins body for ?? reasons. Sidney keeps starting a robot revolution. Barry somehow never realizes it’s a loop. Riva knows it’s a loop but doesn’t see it as a problem. Gunthrie uses this to make bets and get a big cash sell out cause the ball is rolling up.
Does it get fixed? Maybe. We just don’t know.
Leverage
100% it’s Eliot stuck in the loop and he blames Hardison. Hardison automatically believes Eliot is in a loop every time and is god damn delighted. He keeps asking which type of loop it is and making Eliot watch various episodes of things to get comparisons.
One loop has Eliot perfectly plan out the con they need to do on the bad guy they were working on and Nate believes it’s a loop after that happens but of course it resets.
Sophie thinks it’s the universe telling Eliot he needs to work on something in his life. (“Have you tried acting? With your eyes you’d make a very….intense version of Puck in a Midsummer Night’s Dream.” “Hardison fix this.” “Eliot where are you going?”) She’s also the one he goes to when he needs to complain about the loop though every time.
Parker’s response is “This doesn’t happen to everyone? Hunh.” And then walking away. Eliot doesn’t want to know.
He also proves that Hardison ate his damn sandwich.
“You owe me Hardison so fix this.” “Damn, I’m not a physics major, you’re the one who’s in this. You know what might help?” “I’m not watching the TNG episode again, dammit Hardison.”
The loop just breaks at some point. Eliot isn’t convinced it wasn’t Parker’s doing now.
He still blames Hardison.
