Beetlebabes dni (seriously fuck off)
So, my current hyperfixation is Beetlejuice, movie, cartoon, and musical. But I have all the Beetlejuice cartoons on file so as I was watching, I decided to redesign Lydia and Beej in the show’s style for my own fic I’m working on. I added silhouettes of the show’s designs as a comparison. And I finalized my OC as a bonus. So here’s some info about Bj and Lydia. I’ll explain my OC some other time.
Beetlejuice:
I used all iterations of him as inspiration, but in terms of visual, it’s mostly the musical and cartoon. Gave him his green hair and also a mullet cause... Idk I think it looks good. But in terms of personality, it’s a nice combo of all three. He’s a lot more nastier and violent than his toon counterpart, but still retains some of the sensitivity showed in the show. For example, he’s still protective of Lydia, but instead of simply putting beetles in a bully’s hair, he’ll genuinely traumatize them with a scare or straight up try and kill them. He’s still a handsy and overtly sexual being like in the movie/musical. Instead of responding to emotional rejection (outside of flirtatious contexts) with a depressive episode like the show, he gets very angry and vengeful. He’s petty, selfish and a conniving ass like all three iterations. But he’s not as dumb as his toon counterpart. He’s irrational and acts before he thinks sure, but when it comes to being a trickster, he’s more thoughtful and malicious like the movie version.
His relationship with Lydia is a big brother/little sister type. She’s one of the very select few who’s ever gotten past his walls. He’s protective of her and always encourages her interests in the gross, rude, and dead. But he’s less affectionate than the show/musical. He’s not a big fan of pda and just barely tolerates her occasional hug. He and Lydia are the type of friends that exchange insults and petty barbs as a way of showing how they care.
A brief note on his most common alter ego, Bettyjuice. I modernized her into an egirl because the aesthetic is perfect with all the stripes. She’s pretty much the same as the show; gross, rude, and impulsive. But I made her too pretty unfortunately. I kept leaning towards cute with certain attributes like the added beanie and her adorable tummy, so that’ll probably be tweaked in the future, but we’ll see. I do like this design a lot even though it’s not gross enough.
Lydia:
Again, all iterations were an inspiration. Her Netherworld design is just a more aged up version of the original poncho, but I added a touch more purple at the forefront to reflect her personality. And her normal design is more muted just as a contrast to the Netherworld to make it seem mundane in comparison. In terms of personality, she’s got the character development of the musical. She’s still deadpanned and sarcastic like the movie/musical, but she’s much softer and more sweet like her toon counterpart. She’s a little more mature now that she’s 18, but not by much cause she’s still a young, developing girl. She only has a few friends her age since most of her peers at school are put off by her goth aesthetic and macabre interests. It also doesn’t help that she hangs around a weird egirl who likes to throw bugs at people (Bettyjuice of course). She does have two friends, Becca and Pamela (loosely based off Bertha and Prudence) and of course, her family. She still loves the Maitlands and hangs out with them a bunch. She has a better relationship with Charles Deetz now that she’s a little older. The one she has conflict the most is Deelia, but there’s still clear love there. She fully accepts Deelia as her mother now, while, of course, still keeping Emily Deetz in her heart as well. But they tend to bicker and argue the most because of their different worldviews, but much less so than before now that Lydia regularly spends time in the Nethworld.
But of course, Lydia’s best friend is Beetlejuice. They pull pranks, get into mischief, and regularly get revenge on Lydia’s main bully Claire Brewster.
But yeah, that’s it. I’ll explain my OC later, but I’m too tired rn. I’m working on some more art for Beetlejuice, but the main inspo is the cartoon since it has a lot more to work with in terms of story and world building.

Rating the Ganondorfs over the years, because I’m bored.
The Legend of Zelda; Ocarina of Time
5.5/10
This ganon is very much the staple for the OG ganondorf. Hes a more lean and oddly shaped version of ganondorf. His armour is a little odd, with a strange colour palette and a design that feels confused at times. This ganon is fine, but I think he would spend a lot of time fixing cars and talking about dad things and I’m not about that vibe.
The Legend of Zelda; Wind Waker
4/10
This ganondorf is not my favourite. He wears no armour, what will protect him from his many haters :(( his heritage feels a little lost here too, but it’s understandable because we don’t see the gerudo or any mention of the gerudo desert in wind waker. His long sleeves remind me of an egirl :( he gets points for effort.

Now we’re cooking! This ganondorf has a lot more detail to him, he has a cape to add to his epic badassery, and a crown to show us that he’s here for the throne. His gloves are fingerless so he can play games on his phone now. Very cool choice of weapon, since he uses the sword the sages tried to kill him with, petty revenge anyone? This ganondorf is not your friend, and he likes it that way.

Here we see a much different approach, this Ganondorf has long flowing hair, and he uses maybelline for sure. We still see his crown, but now it’s becoming a bit obnoxious. His armour is very detailed, and he for sure checks himself out in the mirror. He is very cunty. This ganondorf does look like he is a warrior, and I’m salivating.

Oh damnnnn there he is. This ganon doesn’t wear armour but that’s because his rock hard abs provide all the protection he needs. He opts for flowing and comfortable clothing that lets him move around easier in battle. This ganon has styled and long hair, and he has forgone his obnoxious crown. He says “I don’t need a crown, you bitches know who I am.” He is very connected to his gerudo culture. Not only does he govern the bitches, but he gets them too.
Phantom Ganondorf: The legend of Zelda; Wind Waker

Technically not ganondorf but he is added because I like him. This ganon has a simple design, and definitely a striking look. He has a big bitchin sword, and a subtle but definitive armoured to him. His cape is very nice, and I’m a big fan of his helmet? Horns? Who cares. This ganon is serving.

Oh wow, this ganon is scary. He is very big, and I’m craning my neck to look at him. He is a great mix of detailed and mysterious, and I think I saw him lurking in my room last night. This ganondorf is not here to make friends or play games. He looks like he’s mean, but he also needs a spa day.

Realistically, it’s not that the US army is actively funnelling trad ideology via a 20-year-old influencer – posting hot girl content as a soldier online benefits Lujan’s personal brand too – but when you consider how enlistment rates among Gen Z have plummeted, unofficial pro-military content like Lujan’s undeniably plays into the US army’s motives. You should also keep the tie because 1950s news anchors worn ties instead of bow ties and the hat is a great way to keep that vintage look even if the outfit is modern.
For Velvet, you can add lighter palms and a dark top lip if you want but your current black features for her are enough. (At least you can tell she’s suppose to be black now and not whatever Viv did) To sell she’s an e-girl/pastel goth look, you can add accessories in her hair like hair clips, beads or bows, and add cute cheek makeup like lil hearts.

Also I did see that post before, which did inspire me to work on my redesigns lol. On top of that, I want to give him that classy 50’s tv show host vibe that he apparently is meant to be while also having him embrace modern culture and technology. I loved the suit examples in the og post esp this one;
This one was the biggest inspo for me as it blends the classic style of the 1950’s and the modern times, which I think vox should embody. Not to mention that it would an even bigger emphasis on Alastor who is stuck in his own times of the 1930’s out of bitterness; so at least vox isn’t a carbon copy of Alastor lmao.
For velvette, I’ll def keep those details in mind, viv’s gotta get better at this stuff cause you have people only finding out that her and Alastor are black coded 💀
Regarding the accessories, I feel like these would help to give her that egirl sort of look esp with her hair and all
I think the choker, hair pins and multiple necklaces would suit velvette a lot, as I see her more as that pastel goth/tiktok egirl type rather than the current preppy look, especially if she’s meant to embody the internet, social media and current trends. Also def giving her that lil heart on the cheek!

finally pulled the trigger & bought a core toralei! (coralei?) people are gouging her like crazy online, including walmart which has her priced in app at $40!! but i got her at my local walmart superstore for $25 so… make it make sense 🤔
honestly i’m glad i did even if it was bcuz of fomo. she’s probably my favorite core doll so far in terms of accessories… the colors actually compliment her (koff koff lagoona) rather than all being the same bright orange! plus the grungy band-kid design is SO cute.
may also slow-shrink her head, as a trial run for ghoul spirit frankie (who i adore & will display forever but they look like a freakin funko pop rn. that head is WAY too big)
but we shall see… i’d also like to give her a coat of MSC and add the orange egirl blush from her box art, i think it’s super cute on her (can’t help but wonder if the artist was inspired by catra since every character on She Ra has the same straight-across-the-nose egirl blush; god bless nate stevenson)
that will have to wait until her head is resized tho. plus i’m paranoid the msc coat might go poorly… which happened on my core lala - not a disaster since i’m not uber fond of her factory faceup. but tor’s eyes are SO beautiful i’d hate to have to wipe her. so no blushing for now!

I’m sorry if this comes off as a noob ask but who’s Regina Ferrum?
She was a one shot character in early Archie Sonic, but came back yeeears later. She's like a wizard, but only for like tech stuff. (oddly similar to Lazar from SatAM)
Well she's also a queen, who's married to the Iron King, who's just this huge bull guy. Icr his name. I don't think she really likes the monarch society she has herself in, something of the sort, I need a refresher on her motives, but she goes online and meets Snively. We only know they've been talking because a couple panels, and then Dimitri (the octopus in a jar echinda) finds his dms.
So like. They get together. Snively steals a whole queen from this bull I still can't remember his name. Basically he has an Egirl now. Their relationship is far from healthy. It's all mutual hatred and the fact they're neglected. I mean they genuinely love each other, but Regina is really just using him as leverage for her own revolt.
Iccr what exactly happens, but the "good guys" catch Regina, and Eggman won't let Snively go and save her, so she's just trapped at the bottom like a well or something for who knows how long.
Snively eventually pulls his grand escape scheme to round up the only two people to ever show him kindness. (Hope his stepsister, and Regina) Hope's scene sucks. I mean that by it's really depressing. She's hero coded, and Snively is villain coded.
He woos Regina back on his side by stealing a mech from wherever she's from, and they have a robot mech dual with Eggman. They don't stand a chance. They're both knocked out.
Eggman gives Regina a clone of Snively. These are just bomb look alikes that Snively made as a diversion for his escape. Regina can control him, because techno magic. But she doesn't notice it in the last issue she's in. Meanwhile, Snively...he's in one of those animal pod things from the games. Yeah Eggman just left him to rot in there and taunts him about it. And that's the last time you ever see him before the reboot where he looks like Walter White. It makes me comically steam from my ears and make train whistle sounds.
To makes things a little better, Ian Flynn wanted to bring him back, but the reboot stamped out any other chances of any loose ends being tied. Thanks Penders.

I somehow never got around to Amis* despite the overwhelming Anglophilia of the milieu that produced me: I probably should have read him in college, but I was too busy reading the Victorians and postmodernists. His love for Bellow and Nabokov is intriguing though- i’ve often thought that one of the main weaknesses of *American* literature is the opposite tendency, a predilection for periods of extended self-loathing about the fact that we can’t really produce these intricate and elegant novels of settled hierarchal society the way that the English can- so I’m curious to know what the opposite looks like. Right, the complex that starts with Henry James's book on Hawthorne, is carried through those midcentury critics I mentioned in our James-Melville conversation (as well, significantly, both Gore Vidal and Joan Didion), and extends to the late-20th-century laments over the absent social novel of both Tom Wolfe and Jonathan Franzen. The historian-journalist streak, as opposed to the poet-prophet—except that, as we established, both Melville and James are large enough to contain both.
One way to see Amis and his cohort, again with a pop music analogy, is as the literary version of the British Invasion: American "rock" with its diverse influences (mainly Jewish rather than black, in the novelistic case as opposed to the musical) reimagined through the lens of post-imperial Britain. Here they differ from the later and belated phenomenon of Britpop, with its initial nationalist riposte to America's indie-grunge turn, deliberately de-Amerifying rock.
Thomas Meaney, reviewing Inside Story when it came out, distinguished Amis's style from the English realist tradition and made the Bellow-rock connection:
The magnetism of Bellow for Amis’s generation of English writers is well attested: Hitchens, Ian McEwan, and later Will Self and James Wood, all found something in Bellow’s high-calorie sentences that they couldn’t get at home. It was perhaps, above all, the permission to dispense with the rationed intensity of good mid-century British prose – the clean, spare, simplicity of George Orwell’s diction that reached its apotheosis in VS Naipaul and has been gently ironised by Kazuo Ishiguro.
Amis ran farther than any of his peers in the opposite direction: towards a maximalism that he has never abandoned or so much as questioned. His head-swaying to American street-wise rhythms, albeit leavened by English classicism, is the literary version of Mick Jagger crooning “Hoochie Coochie Man” at the Checkerboard Lounge with Muddy Waters, or Daniel Day-Lewis, son of Cecil, shouting, “I will find you!” in deerskin breechcloths under a waterfall in The Last of the Mohicans.
Other than Austen—a genius and so above rules or considerations of taste—the English social novel doesn't interest me much either; I've never gotten anywhere with Thackeray or Trollope, mildly dislike Fielding, cheer on Woolf's polemic against Bennett. I prefer their Romantic visionary prose tradition, which, in figures as distinct as the Brontës and Dickens, as Woolf and Lawrence and Forster, turns what appear to be social novels into myths and gospels. On this basis, I've never read Kingsley either; he doesn't really seem to "export." Martin, however, loved Fielding and Austen and has a definite undertow of the traditional English satirical social novel (Meaney's "leavened by English classicism") for all the visionary coloration he borrows from inherently aclasscal Americans.
Anyway, the chapter I'm now writing in Major Arcana, one of the last, is titled "Et in Arcadia Egirl," so I should probably stop pretending I am not also in part writing a satirical social novel.

i am just so tired of being dismissed and misunderstood. for someone w adhd who needs to ramble to get their point perfectly across still nobody will understand. i did the lesser of two evils when i was in such an unstable state that doing good wasn’t an option. less than 13 hours later and I’m completely fine, physically. i had a long nights rest and i may still feel the way i felt last night but it’s muted in the background as usual. im not bursting im not spiraling more and i DIDNT DO IRREVERSIBLE DAMAGE TO MYSELF. i never said my choice was smart but you chose to continue to antagonize and yell at me and keep me as far away from you as possible because you are just too busy to deal with my crap! IM VERY GLAD YOU CAN CHOOSE WHEN TO ENGAGE UR GF IN CRISIS BEXAUSE I HAVE NO CHOICE EVER EVERY SINGLE DAY BUT TO FEEL IT AND RIDE IT THROIGU KNOWONG ONCE IT HAPPENS ILL LOSE EVERYONE AGAIN BECAUSE NOBODY FUCKING UNDERSTANDS. warriors: super edition: firestar's quest
date started: 23/07/2022 | date finished: 31/07/2022
i like that the book starts off as pretty much a direct sequel to the darkest hour despite it being published two years after the actual sequel, “midnight”.
it has follow-ups to the battle versus bloodclan and references that sandstorm had helped mistyfoot train stormpaw and featherpaw (now stormfur and feathertail in this book) and they are said to have become good friends after that and sandstorm goes to talk with mistyfoot at the gathering. i just thought that was sweet :)
also some dustpelt sass was unexpected but appreciated. especially because he’s being sassy to firestar who is his leader, i don’t think most cats talk like that to their leaders. firestar got a random vision of skyclan leaving a gathering and he stops walking towards fourtrees and dustpelt just says (well actually he grumbles) “for starclan’s sake, do you have to stop dead like that? any cat would think you’d forgotten the way.”
hehe i just thought it was funnie xD
also i totally forgot that this is the book where longtail loses his vision. i thought he was a warrior for way longer than that. in my memory he still had his vision at least until the power of three. i guess i just forgot. poor boy :(
i was a little disappointed that bluestar was against trying to help skyclan and used the “four trees = four clans” argument again. only the last time she said it, she meant that a clan shouldn’t be driven out of the forest. i do understand a little because there isn’t room for a fifth clan and the clans all end up leaving the forest to go to the lake anyway. and i do think a clan leader leaving their clan for such a long time and potentially not making it back is a bad idea. like in the new prophecy when young warriors/apprentices are sent on a journey it’s a bit more believable.
i do like that skyclan being driven out by the twoleg developments goes right with the story of the series it precedes. even though this book was written after the new prophecy, it does make the story feel more connected somehow. i just like it!
when firestar asks sandstorm to come with him it made me realise that despite being his partner, they have barely talked to each other this book. sandstorm always seems to be the one checking in on him and he’s cheating on his wife with a dead cat kinda. plus the fact that she knows she’s his second choice is really sad. and he just randomly says hey come with me after she confronts him about that and everything is okay now? ugh, and firestar never has to change and be a better cat husband and can still go talk to his egirl on discord woohoo.
skywatcher giving firestar the prophecy about the three was unexpected.
spottedleaf’s presence in this book (and every book) is annoying and mostly doesn’t warrant itself existing. like when she comes to tell them that burdock root can treat rat bites and it causes conflict between firestar and sandstorm. she tells sandstorm that their relationship could never be and that firestar loves her. but after sandstorm can’t hear her, she tells firestar that she wishes things could have been different. like what a big fuck you to that moment and to sandstorm. firestar and spottedleaf need to stop. i’m looking forward to the new povs in the next books and won’t have to deal with firestar anymore haha. also the cats had totally figured out that they needed to take down the leader of the rats but spottedleaf found it necessary to give a dumb prophecy “not many, but one” like thanks but we knew.
i love leafdapple as a name, it’s just so pretty and totally puts an image of her in your head. it’s almost sad that she loses that name when she becomes skyclan’s leader, but i of course support her being leader.
i liked the epilogue just surprising me with firestar going to see sandstorm in the nursery with their two babies. it was a sweet scene.
i’m just looking forward to skyclan’s destiny and when i finally read the new series and skyclan joins the other clans at the lake.
