Shirley haters are soooo boring.
#okay to be fair if you grew up with a homophobic parent I can understand her making you uncomfortable#but whenever I see people acting like she's Satan or something it's just so absurd#like EVERY character in this show has done really bad stuff#it just doesn't make sense to hate Shirley over a few throwaway lines about her being homophobic#also Shirley may be homophobic but I don't see her as the type of person who would be a DANGER to LGBT+ people#like if she met me she'd probably be weird and make a not great remark but I wouldn't really feel unsafe around her per say#and I think she has it in her to learn to be more accepting#also I just legit think she's super funny and adorable#all in all I think it's usually really weird when people try to apply moral judgments to the actions of comedy show characters#like sorry my guy but comedy is kinda built off of people being messy!#like I dislike Pierce and s6 Jeff because the show actually expects us to sympathize with them a lot of the time when they do something bad#but the show doesn't really do that for Shirley's homophobic remarks which makes them a lot easier to swallow#community#shirley bennett
