(masterpost of all speeches)
Taylor Swift before playing mirrorball (guitar) in Glendale, AZ on March 17th 2023
I was thinking we could have a little acoustic moment, just you and me in this very intimate venue. So my plan, and who knows if I'll stick to it, but the plan, the goal, would be to play different songs every single night and never repeat one, okay? So that when you heard one on this tour, you'd know it was the only time I was ever going to play it in the acoustic set, unless—caveat—I mess it up so badly that I have to play it again in some other city. But send your best wishes toward me that I don't do that. So um, I was thinking about the first one I would play for you, and by the way, I wanted to check on everyone up top, because I can se e you so well. Is everyone doing alright? So the reason I like having the bracelets is because it lights you very, very nicely and I can see everyone in this stadium of 70,000 people I can see every last one of you. I was thinking about what song to play first, and I was thinking about one of the songs I wrote with you in mind during the pandemic, it was one of the first songs I wrote on folklore, and it was me writing about how badly I craved the connection that I feel from the care that you have directed in my way. I'm trying to tell you I love you, and I'm babbling. I was trying to think of an eloquent way to say that I love you, and I need your attention all the time, and I came up with 'I'm a mirrorball.'
Taylor Swift before playing Tim McGraw (piano) in Glendale, AZ on 17th March 2023
The way that you decided to show up to this concert, you really, really decided to show up to the concert. I have seen like 17 people dressed as mirrorballs. I've seen really amazing specific visual representations, of lyrics or weird online inside jokes that we have, or I've seen someone dressed as a whole entire willow tree. I've seen an alarming number of adults dressed as sexy babies. I was thinking about tonight and how special this is. It's just special for me. If it's special for you, that's awesome. You have certainly led me to believe by your behavior that it's special for you too, so it's really nice that it's mutual. So I thought it might be kind of fun to play the very first song I ever put out?
Taylor Swift before This Is Me Trying (guitar) in Glendale, AZ on 18th March 2023
Do you care about if my sleeve is perfect, or do you just want me to play music? You get both! We get both! I was just going to come back and visit with you guys here, and here, and here, if that's alright. Is that okay? Just doing a little vibe check, because I did notice there was an extremely loud noise coming from the back, and now I know that that's you. So I was thinking we could have a few songs where it's just you, me, and a guitar and a piano, and we could all just sing together. One thing that strikes me, as I'm walking around looking at you guys, and seeing you singing and connecting to different songs, or just being yourself, is that everybody in the world has something going on right now, had something going on in the past, has had to go through a lot of things, overcome a lot of thing. And we have absolutely no idea when we're walking around, in a stadium of 70,000 people, we have no idea what people are covering up. Or what they're really working hard to overcome at this given moment. And I think that music has really, really—it conjures something for you. Music is like when you smell somebody's perfume or cologne or something that you used to know. It just brings everything back up. And so I don't know, I was thinking about that tonight, and I was thinking how everybody here is trying, you know?
No speech for State of Grace (piano) in Glendale, AZ on 18th March 2023
Taylor Swift before playing Our Song (guitar) in Las Vegas, NV on 24th March 2023
Just checking, how are things back here? Are we okay? It seems like things are excellent back here. So, you know, I was thinking this tour, it might be fun to have a section where I would just play different songs every night, just me and you and a guitar or a piano, an we could just go by honestly what I feel like playing. And I'm going to decide based on what I hope you might want to hear. But I do get ideas from places. Like I saw, I actually saw an interview that Beabadoobee did, who is our amazing opening act tonight. And they were saying. 'Oh, you're opening the Eras Tour! What song might you want to hear?' And she was like, 'Well, I grew up listening to songs like, on her first album' and she named a specific song. So I figured, you know what, for her first song for us, I'd play the specific song that she said she would want to hear. So this is a song I actually wrote I think for my ninth grade talent show. This is Our Song.
Taylor Swift before playing Snow On The Beach (piano) in Las Vegas, NV on March 24th
So there's something important that we need to talk about. So we're going to talk about something, but I just have to tell you, first of all, that I'm going to talk about another artist, but that artist is not here, okay? This is not a bit, I am not going to bring somebody out, you are stuck with me. We do not have guests at this show, okay? I'm not going to talk about her, and then be like, 'She's going to come out!' I'm not lying to you. I would not do that. But I do want to talk about something, because Lana Del Rey put out a new album. And it's called Did You Know That There's a Tunnel Under Ocean Blvd? It's so good, guys. It's so good, but you probably already know that. It's just extraordinary, and I just feel like—I think she's the best that we have, so I think we need to make it a priority as a group to stream, buy, support this album and this artist. She knows I'm obsessed with her, and she was kind enough to make a song with me on Midnights. She's a generous, giving, and she did that for me, and I will never forget how nice she's been. It's just so cool when you have favorite artists and they turn out to be so nice to you. So I wanted to do some promo for her, and also in honour of this brilliant album that she just put out, I want to play Snow on the Beach!
Taylor Swift before singing cowboy like me with Marcus Mumford (guitar) in Las Vegas, NV on 25th March 2023
So what if I were to come hang out here with you in the back for a little while? Is that alright? Good, good, because I'm excited about it too, but I wanted to check. I have a story to tell you. Would you like to hear a story? Fantastic. Okay, so take yourselves back to 2020, and I put out folklore, and I just kept writing. I just wanted to write more. I didn't want to stop. The more I thought, the more I thought, 'Let me just make a sister album to folklore and call it evermore.' And so I just started immediately—Aaron, Jack, and I were just writing remotely. And the challenge at the time was trying to figure out how to record things. Most studios were completely shut down due to Covid, understandably, and so we were trying to figure out—I could not find a studio, essentially. So Aaron is like, 'Let me call around to see if there is anyone who is cool, and nice, and generous, and might be willing to offer up their home studio if we do the right amount of testing, we're totally locked down, and quarantined.' And I was like, 'Okay, please, I really hope someone comes through.' So he calls me up and is like, 'I have really, really good news. Marcus Mumford said that you could record at his home studio.' So I first of all, am so excited that he's saving us, because without this trip, we wouldn't have recorded five or six of the songs on evermore, which came from me getting in a car, driving six hours out into the country past thousands of beautiful sheep, to Marcus Mumford's beautiful house where he has a studio. So I got to do this, we get there, and the whole time I'm thinking, 'Okay, wouldn't it be so cool if he would sing on something?' Because I'm such a Mumford & Sons fan. I just think he's brilliant, and has one of the most gorgeous voices in the world. So I'm like, 'Will he sing something, please, please?' But I didn't want to be weird about it, so I'm like, 'I wonder if he'll wander in, if fate will have him wander into the studio at the right time.' So sure enough, we're recording a song, and he wanders in at the perfect time and just kind of started humming a harmony. And I kind of turned to him as if I hadn't been thinking of it the whole time, and I was like, 'Oh! You sound really good on that harmony! I wonder if you might, um, sing on this song?' And he said, 'Yep, I would love to!' So essentially because of Marcus Mumford, we have a lot of the songs that probably we wouldn't have been able to put out evermore when we did, as quickly as we did, And we also have a gorgeous harmony on a song called cowboy like me. Las Vegas, Nevada, we are so lucky because we do have a special guest with us tonight, and that is Marcus Mumford!!! Would you honor us with a performance? Would you sing cowboy like me with me please?
Taylor Swift before singing White Horse (piano) in Las Vegas, NV on 25th March 2023
I was thinking about, okay, what song should I do on piano? Would it be cute if something came out and went along with Cowboy Like Me in some weird lyrical way. And I was like, 'Oh, cowboys ride horses? Should I do White Horse?'
Taylor Swift before playing Sad Beautiful Tragic (guitar) in Arlington, TX on 31st March 2023
“How’s everyone faring back here? Are you good? I had a feeling but I just needed to check, you know? So this is like, this is a part of the show I love so much because it’s different every single night. Some people love surprises and some people hate surprises. People will like, say, ‘Oh yes, I love surprises,’ but they—surprises are an interesting thing. But that’s why I love this part of the show, because it could be anything. Not really anything—it would be one of my songs, but I was taking a chance with this one, because I’m not sure if you guys love this one or not, or if you just like it, or if you’re obsessed with it—it could be anything, really. I love this one, and when I love something I don’t really care what the feedback is, so I didn’t check. This is a song that I wrote that’s just like a simple, wistful, sad song that I love: It’s this very sad, beautiful, tragic song. I’m not sure if I’ve played this song ever live before, but if I have, it would be like one time before. Always think before you speak—something to learn from what just happened.”
No speech for Ours (piano) in Arlington, TX on 31st March 2023
Taylor Swift before playing Death By A Thousand Cuts (guitar) in Arlington, TX on 1st April 2023
“Hi, hi, hi, hi, hi. I’ve been checking in with you all night, but I feel so impolite. I haven’t greeted you. Are you having a good time back here? Good! You know, this is like, this is one of my favorite parts of the show because, it’s just you and me and an instrument in this very intimate venue, and I get to play a song and hear you sing it so loudly because it’s just me and you in this intimate venue. So what I do on this tour so far, is I’ve been playing diff songs every night, like I’ll do one on the guitar and one on the piano, and the goal is to not repeat one so that every single time I play a song on the acoustic set, it’s the one time I play it, unless I mess it up in which case I would have to do it again at some point to redeem myself—you understand. I do take requests, if they are phrased in a polite way. Not right now, I’ve already decided, I’m so sorry, that was false advertising, I didn’t mean to—I have to practice all day, you know, I can’t take chances, there are 70,000 people here. You get it! This actually came from one of my closest friends, and my collaborator of dreams, who is actually here tonight. Jack Antonoff is here tonight. And you know, I was telling him, I’ve played this one, I think once live, and everybody screamed the bridge so loudly that I kept telling him about it, saying, ‘I wish you’d been there, it was so insane,’ because we wrote this song together because we wrote this song together and I really want him to hear you do it. I’m really hoping you know the words to this song. I’m gonna take my chances. This song’s called Death By A Thousand Cuts.”
Taylor Swift before playing Clean (piano) in Arlington, TX on 1st April 2023
“This is another request from someone who’s here tonight. This is a request from Gracie Abrams. I texted her and I was like—we text—and she was like, ‘I’m so excited, I’m so excited for this tour,’ and in her very adorable way, ‘I’m dying, dying, dying, I’m dead, I’m crying all day,’ she talks, you know her, she’s very adorable, the way she speaks in hyperbole. And I mentioned the acoustic set, and she was talking about the setlist, and she was like, ‘Would you play Clean?’”
Taylor Swift before playing Jump Then Fall (guitar) in Arlington, TX on 2nd April 2023
“Just checking on the state of things back here! Are we good? So this is the part of the show where I get to pick different songs to play, and try to surprise and delight. I’ll try my best to pick songs that hopefully you might like. This is a song that I wanted to play tonight because when I was re-recording Fearless, I fell in love with this song again, and I thought, you know, I’m going to play it and see if they sing along! It’s called Jump Then Fall!”
Taylor before playing The Lucky One (piano) in Arlington, TX on 2nd April 2023
“Well thanks guys! This is a little one that I re-fell in love with while re-recording. It’s about how horrible being famous is.”
Taylor Swift before playing Speak Now (guitar) in Tampa, FL on 13th April 2023
You guys are so cute with the chanting! The chanting is very adorable. It's very precious you did that. I was going to come back here and check how everything is back here. How are things here? Phenomenal, so good, but you know, I don't know if you know this, but you have these light up bracelets on you, did you notice? Good! So those, they serve many a purpose, but one of them that I love the most is that I can see all of you all the time because of that. I can see all of you, all the time, which is a really great experience for me because you're all lit up, so I've seen you guys dancing and doing this a lot and jumping, and very passionately screaming lyrics, which is honestly just the gold standard for one of my most beloved crowds. And it's just so great to back in Tampa, Florida. So I've been thinking a lot about one of my albums recently. One of my albums has been on my mind a lot. I've been thinking about it, lots of thoughts going on in my brain about it, so I thought I might play the title track of that album!
Taylor Swift before playing Treacherous (piano) in Tampa, FL on 13th April 2023
So this, we're just going to play one of my favourite songs right now. I love this one. I'm so proud of this one. So we'll see if you're excited about it too. I don't know that I've ever played it on piano, so that's a piece of boring information for you. I'm just going to play it then!
Taylor Swift before playing The Great War (guitar) in Tampa, FL on 14th April 2023
Jut coming back here to check on how this gorgeous back section of the stadium is doing! Well, good. This is the part of the show that honestly is just, it's such a fun one for me, because it's you and me and this very intimate venue, singing a song together. And it's a different one every night—it's actually a different two every night—which is fun, and also terrifying for me, but mostly fun. And I think that I would just like to start by saying that I, in the last couple of years discovered sort of like the collaborator version of a soulmate. I met a guy named Aaron Dessner, and he's so incredibly brilliant. We have made so much music together in the last couple years—it's actually ridiculous how much music we have made together. We started with folklore, then went onto evermore, and he's been so helpful with the re-records we're doing. And we are so lucky tonight, Tampa, Florida, because Aaron Dessner is here! Look at him! It's a long walk so you've got to keep going. Wanna say hi to them? [AD: Are you guys watching the greatest performer on earth do the greatest show of all time? You are so lucky?] That's so nice, that was a nice thing to say. We wanted to perform a song for you that we did together that's cool. And you know, this song really took on a new meaning when you guys made enough jokes about how you tried to get tickets for this tour, and it felt like surviving The Great War?
Taylor Swift before playing You’re On Your Own, Kid (piano) in Tampa, FL on 14th April 2023
So like, here's the thing about having a stadium tour. There's many things about it, but one of them is that you can just make up rules, and then you can just change them. You can just be like 'We're doing this!' and then be like 'We're not doing that.' It's honestly one of the best things about it other than all the sparkles, because my favorite color is sparkles. So what I'm referring to is that when I started the tour, I was like, 'In the acoustic section, I'm never repeating a song. I'm never doing songs more than once.' But now I'm like, 'There are so many songs I want to do more than once.' So I'm making a little caveat to the rule, which is that if it's on Midnights, I can do it as many times as I want. Because Midnights is like, the most accurate picture of my life to-date. It's the most recent album. I feel really connected to it. I'm really proud of it. So I was thinking, you know, if I want to do songs from Midnights more than once on this tour—and I'm feeling very Midnights-y tonight. So I thought, in this section, in the acoustic set, I usually do songs from different albums. But I'm so in a Midnights mood right now that I thought I'd do one that I've never played before.
Taylor Swift before playing Mad Woman ft. Aaron Dessner (piano) in Tampa, FL on 15th April 2023
Just doing a bit of a checkup on this part of the stadium. How's everyone feeling? Is everyone okay? Fantastic. You know, you guys are really, really blowing my mind tonight. I love you so much. You are singing so loud, you are just thrashing around, hurling your bodies. It's really like, it's more than dancing, what you're doing. There's a lot happening, and I don't want you to think I don't notice it. You guys have these light-up bracelets on, and I can see everything that's happening. And you're doing the most, which is the only amount that I really have respect for. So you know, this is the acoustic section. This is also like, just a great hair transformation for me. I'm just really doing well from the humidity. I don't care though, I'm having so much fun. What I was going to say is that I have a really, really, really wonderful, incredible person in my life who I've been making music with since folklore, and he is so talented, and kind, and has become such a great friend, and we are so lucky, because Aaron Dessner is here in Tampa, Florida with us! Here he is! Rising from the ground at his piano, as if from nowhere. And so we wrote this song—do you want to say hi? [AD: Hello, hello everyone! I'm more excited for this than the last time we played together, when we won the album of the year for folklore, this is even more thrilling.] Well this is better! Oh my god, you just threw so much shade at the Grammys! That's crazy. You're so crazy, what you just did. You're going to get so canceled. What's going to happen to you now? No, he's just telling you he loves you. So basically, when we were writing folklore, we wrote this song that I really love, because it allowed me to get a lot off my chest, and now we're going to sing it for you, because who doesn't love a Mad Woman?
Taylor Swift before playing Mean (guitar) in Tampa, FL on 15th April 2023
So I've been having thoughts tonight, and one of the thoughts I've had is that you're incredibly vocally talented. The singing! I really can't rave about it enough. It's deafening, it is so loud, and that makes it so fun for us onstage—like all of us. That makes it a blast. I want to sing something that maybe you might know and might sing along with really loudly. I just thought it would be nice, which is the opposite of Mean.
Taylor Swift before playing Wonderland (guitar) in Houston, TX on 21st April 2023
Just thought I might come back here and check on my friends back here! How's everybody doing? This is a major, major party zone back here, I've noticed. I don't know if you've seen this, but you do have these light-up bracelets on, yeah? And that's for a lot of different reasons, you know: There are cool shapes, it makes us all look like we're in a galaxy. But also, really, selfishly, I like to be able to see you guys, and that helps that happen. So if you think you're at the top, and you think I can't see you, I can. You're looking great. You're looking crazy great. So this is a part of the show that I always just get all excited about, because it's just me and you and an instrument in this very, very intimate venue. And I've been doing different songs every night, which has been really, really fun—really fun—because you know, it's the Eras Tour. We've gotta be having some surprises from different albums. I don't know why, I just really wanted to play this one tonight. I haven't played it in a really long time. I kind of based it off of a twisted Alice In Wonderland kind of deal.
Taylor Swift before playing You’re Not Sorry (piano) in Houston, TX on 21st April 2023
You know, I've been actually re-recording my first six albums! And that's something thats happened since I saw you last, and I've been doing that and I've just been genuinely loving it so much because, I don't know, you go back, and you revisit things, and you remember how proud you were of something, and also like, the only reason I'm able to do this—re-recording my first six albums, that was an idea that pretty much everybody thought was like, 'That.s not going to work, right? The fans aren't going to be into that!' Like, 'Nobody wants that. What is she thinking?' But you guys were like, 'No, no, we got you. This is going to work. We'll crush this.' So thank you. I will be thanking you for your support on these projects that I've been re-recording and putting out, I'll thank you forever. I'm never going to stop doing it. And I'm sorry if you get bored of it. It's just never going to stop. This is a song that I really, really re-fell in love with when I was re-recording Fearless (my version).
Taylor Swift before playing A Place In This World (guitar) in Houston, TX on 22nd April 2023
Oh hi guys! How have things been going back here? Every time I come to visit back here, I just think, 'Wow, that's a whole vibe. I need to spend more time back there.' So that's what I'm going to do right now. I'm going to hang out with you for a bit. You're so awesome. I was thinking, since this crowd is so vocal, you seem to know every single possible song. And it's okay if you don't know this song, but if you do, you get bonus points. So this is a song that I wrote when I was like 13 years old and I was on my first album. And I'm sure I related to it when I wrote it, but I think I relate to it more now 20 years later. And I very rarely ever play it live, so I decided to play A Place In This World.
Taylor Swift before playing Today Was A Fairytale (piano) in Houston, TX on 22nd April 2023
How are we doing? Super exceptional, over here. That's amazing. That's great to hear! I just love this tour. I just do. It's like, I've never felt this way about a tour. And that's—no shade at the other tours, they were great—but this one is not, this has become my whole personality, this tour. I missed you so much that it just feels crazy to—you know when you're building something up in your head, and then it's like, when you get it, you're not as obsessed with it? This is the complete and total opposite of that. I missed you so much, and I was so excited for the tour. But then when we started doing it, it was 50,000 times more fun than I ever could have dreamed it would be. And so that's kind of why I feel like I wanted to play this song, because you make every day on this tour feel like a fairytale.
Taylor Swift before playing Begin Again (guitar) in Houston, TX on 23rd April 2023
So we've come to the acoustic era! So this is like, you know, I look forward to this part of the night so much because it really keeps me on my toes, because every single night, I do two completely different songs that I haven't done before on the tour. I'm trying to go through all the eras and just kind of like, it's crazy combing back through all these songs, it's just so fun to think about trying to pick something that you might like to hear. And then I practice it, and then I really hope for the best. But I just wanted to play this one tonight, and I hope that if you know it, you'd sing along.
Taylor Swift before playing Cold As You (piano) in Houston, TX on 23rd April 2023
So I've been really trying to go back through just tons of different times in my life, in my music, to pick these songs, and so it's been really—sometimes I forget what key they're in, but I just remembered—so there's a song on the first album that I released, and like, no shade to the other songs on that album, but I do think that Cold As You is the best song on the first album, so we're doing that.
Taylor Swift before playing The Other Side Of The Door (guitar) in Atlanta, GA on 28th April 2023
So uh, just checking, things seem to vibing back here. Is that correct? It's correct to assume that you are vibing as hard as I have suspected you are vibing. This is such a great section back here! I just came to spend some one-on-one time in this very intimate venue, just, an instrument, and me, and you, and you, and we're just going to spend some time, because I love you, and. you've been killing it all night. And this is one of my favourite moments of the show, because it kind of keeps me on my toes. I do two different songs every night. So far on the tour I have not repeated one. And tonight, I wanted to play a song that is like, when I was re-recording my album Fearless, I just, I was listening to this one, and I remember when I wrote this one, I was so obsessed with this rant I put at the end of the song. And I never, I don't think I ever really got to perform it live. If I ever did, it was not enough times. So I would really love to play this song. It's called The Other Side Of The Door.
Taylor Swift before playing Coney Island (piano) in Atlanta, GA on 28th April 2023
Okay so, really, any time I'm even going to talk about, or reference another artist, I feel inclined to tell you that they're not here. No one else is here, it's just me, you're stuck with me. But I am going to talk about another artist, because I feel like stadiums are huge, and it's important to really communicate, so that's what I'm doing. I'm going to talk about another artist, who has an album that just came out, and it's so cool. The National just had an album come out! This band has influenced me beyond my ability to verbalise how much they've influenced me, just lyrically, their ability to set a scene, their ability to tell stories. And obviously Aaron Dessner is in The National, and he has completely changed my life. Yeah, so I was lucky enough to be able to write a song with them for their new album, which is called The First Two Pages Of Frankenstein. Check it out, stream it, buy it on vinyl! And I love them so much. They've been so kind to me, and so I'm not going to sing the song that we have on this new album. It's called The Alcott—check that out, though. But I am going to sing Coney Island.
Taylor Swift before playing Gorgeous (piano) in Atlanta, GA 29th April 2023
Wow, you guys were really into that song. That made me so happy. I saw have been made aware, that there are actually people keeping track of the songs that I'm doing in the acoustic section. And like, its sort of like, almost like it's sports or something, which is so cool, because I've never—I've been accused of a lot of things, but I've never been accused of being sporty, or athletic on any concept. I think people are charting and betting on what songs are going to be happening. It's probably only like 12 people that are doing this, but the fact that it's happening at all just makes me really excited, the level of engagement, the organisation—and so it was brought to my attention that I didn't realise this, but I haven't played anything from reputation in the acoustic set yet. And I didn't do that on purpose, for any reason. I just think that reputation, I think of that as my most metal album, just harder to do acoustic. But that's sort of weird for me to say, because most of the songs on that album I started out writing just acoustic, so I should play one from reputation. This is a song about the universal fact that you will act stupid around someone that you think is hot.
Taylor Swift before playing High Infidelity (guitar) in Atlanta, GA on 29th April 2023
Oh hi, guys. So I just thought I would come hang out with you guys back here, for a second. You know, this is the part of the show that is so much fun for me, but also just really keeps me on my toes, because I just like learning, and rehearsing, and just choosing songs, like every song—oh my god, I have just started 37 different sentences. Does that ever happen to you, where you just can't figure out talking? What I'm trying to say is I get really excited about this part of the show because it's equal parts really, really fun, but also a challenge, because I'm playing two songs that I have maybe never played acoustic before. So it's really fun to get to have this unique experience with you guys. That's what I was trying to say. So yeah, this part of the tour is a blast because I get to have this one-on-one moment with you, on one instrument, and that's how my career started, and it's kind of my favourite thing to do sometimes. We have a lot of pyro now, we've got confetti, all sorts of cool stuff, but I do just really love hanging out with you and an instrument so. So you know, I was thinking about what song to do tonight, and then I was like, wait, I know it's a Saturday, what's the date today? Does anybody know the date? Is it April 29th?
Taylor Swift before playing I Bet You Think About Me (guitar) in Atlanta, GA on 30th April 2023
Well hi guys! So one of the fun things about this tour is that we, I don't know if you've noticed this, but you guys have a bracelet on that lights up. Did you notice? Yeah, you did! So one of the best things about that is obviously we can do really cool patterns and make it look like stars in here. It's just so fun. But it also means I can see absolutely every single person, so if you think you're in the last row of the top upper section, and you think I can't see you, that would be incorrect. I can see you. I see you thrashing around, jumping, dancing, being incredible. Thank you for your support, because I see that it is on the level up there! You guys are incredible. So I was like, you know, I pick these songs out of just little batches of things that I think, that I hope you might like, but I wanted to do one that I've never performed live before! I made this decision—after the shows, I cannot go to sleep for a very solid bunch of hours, because I just get so, I get so excited and wired through the show that going to sleep is something that, it happens into the morning hours, when that happens. So I just kind of don't really fight it, and I plan out what I'm going to do the next day, and I was trying to figure out what song to do, and I looked at the clock, and it said 3am, and I was like, oh, maybe I'll do...
Taylor Swift before playing How You Get The Girl (piano) in Atlanta, GA on 30th April 2023
So I was like, um, I was just thinking about the last couple nights, because there's no wrong answer to these questions. I don't want to you to think there's any pressure with the questions I ask. Is there anyone who has seen the who this weekend before tonight? Is there anyone who is seeing the show for the first time tonight? So like, you know, a city tends to either be like, on fire—like they tend to kind of bring that with them—and Atlanta, from the first show, we were like, 'You guys are on another, new level.' You're so great, it's crazy. So I was like, it's my last night. I really want to give them songs I like a lot. I don't know if you like them a lot—we're going to see in a second—but I like this one, and I just want to say thank you for the way you've acted towards us. It's been really great, so...
Taylor Swift before playing Nothing New ft Phoebe Bridgers in Nashville, TN 5th May 2023
We are firmly ensconced in the Red era, if you couldn't tell from all the color-blocking. Are you having a nice time? So the Red era is actually something I've gotten to record and release that album twice now, because a few years ago, I decided to completely re-record my first six albums. I have to be honest with you guys. That was something that really started out as just a passion project that I wanted to do for me. I wanted to own my work. I wanted to own my art. It's something I've cared about since I was a teenager. And I did not really care very much how it did commercially, because it was for me. It was a passion project. And that's where you came in and were like, 'No, we got you. We got you. We'll support yours.' Which honestly, you consistently keep doing the nicest things anyone's ever done for me, and I can't thank you enough. It's just the craziest thing to watch the re-records happen. But the Red album, honestly, that was a really special album for me when I originally wrote it and when it came out again. It was like, I do these things called vault tracks—they're from the vault, right? And a From The Vault track means that it's a song that I originally wrote for that album when it came out, but for one reason or another, it didn't make the album at that time. So when I re-record, I make a Taylor's Version album, I go and release those songs from the vault, and I give them to you because I think you should have the full story, the full picture of what that album was, right? And so there was a song that I wrote when I was 22, and it was a song I wrote in the middle of the night, and I was really, really feeling, I was really afraid of the idea of aging, and the idea of you guys getting sick of me? Which, by the way, thanks for not doing that yet. I really, really appreciate it, you have no idea. Both 22-year-old me and 33-year-old me really appreciate that. Thanks for sticking around. I really, you know I didn't. And so when I went back, and you know, re-recorded this song, I really wanted to invite one of my favorite artists to sing on it. And she said yes, you guys! Isn't that insane? So Phoebe, do you want to come out and sing this with me? [PB: Hey, hello everyone!] This is normal, right? [PB: This is a regular day, in my life]. I feel the same way, just getting to sing this song with you, for the very first time, in a sold-out stadium in Nashville, Tennessee, right? Nashville, is it okay if we sing Nothing New for the very first time?
Taylor Swift before playing Sparks Fly (guitar) Announced Speak Now TV in Nashville, TN on 5th May 2023
How are things going back here? You seem great! You guys are just vibing, it's amazing. I wanted to let you guys know that you might notice you have a bracelet on. It lights up. Have you noticed that? A cool thing that that does is it lets me see absolutely every single person in this stadium, so if you're at the top, if you're over here, or you're over there, and you think that I can't see you, that would be incorrect. I can see all of you thrashing around, and bouncing, and dancing. I love you so much for that. And I really look forward to this part of the show. I look forward to all the parts of the show, but this one for a different reason, because this one keeps me on my toes, because I always do two different songs, every single night, and I try really hard not to repeat, I haven't repeated one in the tour so far. So all these songs, every time I've done this part of the show, but there's also a different reason why I'm really excited about this part of the set tonight, because I've been planning something for awhile, and you know how I love to plan things, and how I love to surprise you with the things that I have been planning. It's just, it's my love language with you. I plot, I scheme, I plan, and then I get to tell you about it. So, I think, rather than me, like, speaking about it, I thought I would just show you, so if you would direct your attention to the back, big screen, behind me, Speak Now is out July 7th.
Taylor Swift before playing Teardrops On My Guitar (piano) in Nashville, TN on 5th May 2023
I'm having a blast. You guys are on fire! Sorry, that was so loud, the singing! So playing in Nashville, it just brings back so many memories. It just brings back so, so, so, so many memories. And I just always go back to being a teenager writing songs when I went to my job. I moved here in 8th grade. And I'd been writing songs since I was 12, but just, when I think about Nashville, I think about writing all the songs that would end up on my first album. So you know, it's crazy. I have people here who were friends with me, and welcomed me into my school when I was in 8th grade, and would tell me to keep going when I played them my songs and stuff. So it just makes me want to play something that I wrote when I was in school, and I was going to school during the day, and my mom would pick me up from school and she would drive me downtown to write songs at night, and then I'd get home from that and I'd do my homework, and then I'd do the whole thing again the next day. And it was really, really fun, and those are memories that I cherish so much. SO I wanted to play one from my first album.

This is all actually on purpose, you know? Because we only save the rain shows for the most worthy of crowds. A rain show only chooses a crowd that can handle a rain show. You're truly a remarkable group. We also never, ever, ever forget rain shows. Like, when we're up here, and we're just dancing in the rain, and you're dancing in the rain, and we're singing in the rain, and you're singing in the rain, this is something we're all doing together, it's like such a bonding experience, like we have this for life, just so you know. We're all gonna leave here tonight looking like we've just been put through five car washes. It's gonna be so good. People will be like, 'Where were you? Several wars?' And you're like, 'No, I was just at the Eras Tour. It's fine, it's fine. This is normal.' We are in the Red era, at the moment! And the Red album is an album I've actually gotten to record and release twice in my life, thanks to you! And when I put out Red the first time, I was 22, as I just said, many times, in that song, but when I put it out the second time, I got to make my version of it. I got to show you all of the songs that you didn't get to hear the first time, because I always write more osngs than I put on the album. And so when I put out my version of an album, I like to show you the whole story of it. So there was a song on my version of Red that I really loved, and I loved it so much that I really wanted to ask one of my favorite artists to sing on it. And she said yes! So would Phoebe Bridgers like to come to the stage, please? Paging Phoebe Bridgers!
Taylor Swift before playing Would’ve, Could’ve, Should’ve ft. Aaron Dessner (guitar) in Nashville, TN on 7th May 2023
Welcome to the acoustic section of the Eras Tour show! So you know, you guys have been through a lot tonight, I mean, we all look like we've been sprayed by a garden hose, we all look like we're river otters, so I wanted to bring out someone amazing who, working with him changed my life. He's an incredible collaborator and a kind, wonderful genius. We are so lucky tonight, because Aaron Dessner is here! And he has to come out right back there, out of that, look where he is, you have to cheer until he gets here, or else he won't play the songs with me. He was warned about the rain, and he did accept the challenge anyway, so don't worry about us. We've already talked about this. We knew this was a possibility. Your hair's going to look just as good as mine pretty soon? Do you want to say hi? [Aaron Dessner: Hello! I was lucky to see other shows on this tour, but in the rain, it's even better so.] We have a song that we did together that was one of our favorites when we made it, and it's actually on the—well, it's on Midnights, so it's one of our favorite songs we've done together. We hear you guys request to play this one all the time, so we figured we would just wait until there was a really special moment to play it. And you guys have earned it. This is a song about just looking back at your life, and thinking about stuff you wish you just like, would've, could've, should've not done, you know?
Taylor Swift before playing Mine (piano) in Nashville, TN on 7th May 2023
Wow, so, you guys were so amazing. You knew every word to that! That was so wonderful, oh my god. So the other night, we had a really fun time with some news that I shared, which is that Speak Now (my version) is coming out July 7th. And you know, that album—I talk a lot about how folklore was the first time that I was writing in characters, but actually Speak Now, I was inventing scenarios that definitely weren't happening in my life. Like I wrote the song Speak Now about interrupting a wedding of an ex, and I was 18 when I wrote that, so none of my exes were getting married. I had never interrupted a wedding. It was just a fantasy. And I think that's one of my favorite things about Speak Now, is that it was so fantasy, or so fantastical. And I think that was the first time I did really start thinking in sort of cinematic, 'This isn't my life, but what if it were?' or watching a movie and trying to write what those characters might be feeling. I say this because I want to play a song that when I wrote it, I was writing about all these relationship things that hadn't happened to me yet, like there was a drawer of my things at your place, and things like that. And like working through fights and not breaking up—sorry, there's a hair in my mouth, that's so gross. Anyway, those are things that I was not partaking in at 18 and 19 when I wrote these songs, but they're things that, it's been such a privilege and such a treat to go back and re-record them, because relating to them now— it's really crazy to go back and listen to these songs that at the time were fantasy but now feel really relatable to me. So this is called Mine!
Taylor Swift before playing Nothing New in Philadelphia, PA on 12th May 2023
So Philly, if you couldn't tell by the aggressive color-blocking, we are currently in the Red era. Are you having a nice time? You know, the Red albums is actually an album that I've gotten to record and release twice now in my life. So the reason for this being that ever since I was a teenager, it's been really, really important to me to own my art, to own my work, to own my recordings. It's just something that I've always been really passionate about. However, it's not something that I expected other people to be passionate about. You know, that's the thing about a passion project. It's something that you would do, even if no one else cared about you doing it, and so a couple of years ago, I decided to re-record every one of my first six albums. And so I really have you to thank for so much, because when I announced this, a lot of people in the music industry were like, 'That's a terrible idea. Can't wait to watch this terrible idea flop! This is going to be fun for us! Popcorn, just like, love this.' And you guys were like, 'No. That's actually not what's going to happen, because we're going to support this project with everything we have.' And I was just like, 'Thanks guys, you're the best.' So when I go back and re-record my albums, something that I like to do is I re-record songs that didn't ever get released, because to me, that's the full picture of it. That's the full album. And I call those songs From The Vault songs, because it's like they were in a vault. On Red, there was a song that I had never released that I was so proud of, and so I really wanted it to be— I really wanted to get it right when it went out into the world. And so I asked one of my favorite artists to sing on it with me, and she said yes. So Phoebe, would you like to come out and sing Nothing New with me? You look incredible! Wow! Philly, honestly, she must like you so much because of this outfit that she chose to wear for you, and she's smiling a lot. Are you having a good time in Philly? [Phoebe Bridgers: Can't help it. I'm having the best time.] Same, same, same. My dad came into my dressing room earlier. He's always my little spy. He came into the dressing room earlier after watching your set and he's like, 'Tay, Tay, Tay, they're on fire. This is probably the hottest crowd yet. It's the craziest crowd yet. They're on fire tonight.' That's my Oscar-winning impression of my dad before the show. Would you like to sing Nothing New with me? [Phoebe Bridgers: I think so]. Let's do it.
Taylor Swift before playing gold rush (guitar) in Philadelphia, PA on 12th May 2023
So this is actually a part of the show where I play two songs acoustic, and they're different every night of the tour, which is—yeah, anything could happen, really. Not anything, I mean, an acoustic song is going to happen. But we don't know—you never know which one it's going to be! I wanted to start out with this one in Philly because there was sort of a, I don't know how large the debate was, but I did see the debate about, I have a lyric that says, 'With my Eagles t-shirt hanging from your door.' And I saw some people wondering if it was the band The Eagles, or the team the Eagles. And I love the band The Eagles, but guys, come on. I'm from Philly. Of course it's the team.
Taylor Swift before playing Come Back, Be Here (piano) in Philadelphia, PA on 12th May 2023
So I take requests, if they're polite. If they are polite and decently worded. But I got a request from Phoebe Bridgers, so like, obviously, I would just do whatever she wanted me to sing. And she said, 'Could you sing Come Back, Be Here?' And I said yes!
Taylor Swift before playing Nothing New in Philadelphia, PA on 13th May 2023
"So we are currently traveling through the Red era. Are you having a nice time? I've actually gotten to record and release the Red album twice in my life. I'm really hoping we don't have to do it again a third time, but I'm pretty sure we won't. The reason that I got to put out Red twice was because a couple of years ago, I decided to re-record all six of my first six older albums. And the reason I did that is because ever since I was a teenager, it's been really, really important for me to own my work, to own the things that I've written. Thanks guys! And you know, that's, deciding to re-record my first six albums, that was a passion project for me, right? A passion project is something that you do because you're passionate about it, but you'd do it even if you wouldn't have been successful. You would do it even if you knew for a fact it wouldn't be commercially looked at as a victory or whatever. So I decided to do this. There were a lot of people in the music industry that were like, 'This is the worst idea she's ever had. Can't wait to watch this flop, hard.' There were just kind of a lot of skeptics and cynics about the whole idea, which I was like, 'You know, I'm used to that, sure.' But what you guys did was so impressively—I just think it was so surprising to me because I didn't expect you to just be like, 'Alright, we got you, we're supporting your versions of your albums,' right? You completely, completely backed me up on it, and I appreciate that more than you could ever know. So when I go back and I re-record my albums, I put these songs on that would've made the album when I originally did it, and I call them From the Vault tracks. They're songs that haven't been put out yet, but you know, I want you do have the full picture of what the album was—the whole experience and the whole creative process. So there was one song on Red called Nothing New that I was really, really proud of, and I was so proud of this song that I really wanted it to be right, and I just kept imagining this artist that I love so very much singing on it with me. So I asked this artist to sing on it with me, and she said yes! And now we're friends, so that's even cooler, like so exciting. And she's so nice that she agreed to come out and sing it for you tonight. Phoebe, would you come out and sing for us? This dress! This is the most amazing dress ever! How are you doing? [PB: Uh, I just have to come up here every night and pretend this is normal.] So do I. It's just three-and-a-half hours of pretending like this is, I'm not completely freaking out that you guys sold out a stadium for us in Philly on a Saturday night. We're trying to keep it professional, but you're making it really hard because you're being so cool. Should we play Nothing New?"
Taylor Swift before playing Forever & Always (guitar) in Philadelphia, PA on 13th May 2023
"So how are things going back here? You guys look beautiful! Just vibing back here. I was, so this is an extraordinary crowd. I just love you guys so much. You're just dancing so hard, and just, I don't know, there are these nights where you have a million moments with people in the crowd, and this is one of those very special crowds like that. So I just love you guys, thank you for just—you guys are performing. We're not the only ones on the stage performing. I love watching you guys, and because you have these light-up bracelets on, I can actually see every single one of you. Like I can see how hard you're dancing. I just love you so much. You're just giving 150,000%, and I love you. I have a request that I'm going to do. And this is the acoustic section, so I do two songs with me and just an instrument, and I don't ever, so far on the tour, I haven't repeated one, so every song that I've done has been the only time I've played that on this tour. So that's fun and terrifying and exciting and challenging. So this is a request from my friend Lena, who it's her birthday today, and I'm absolutely going to grant that request and also wish her a happy birthday, Lena! She wanted to hear—and she's here tonight, that's also important—she wanted to hear Forever & Always!"
Taylor Swift before playing This Love (piano) in Philadelphia, PA on 13th May 2023
"Oh, I love tonight. I love tonight, I love tonight, I love tonight. That's how I feel, just thought I would tell you. You know, this is like one of those shows where you're like, 'Why does it have to end?' It does have to end, at some point. But I just, when I'm up onstage with my band and my dancers and we're all kind of just looking at each other with this silent acknowledgement that we don't want the night to end, because you guys are lit. So..."
Taylor Swift before playing Nothing New in Philadelphia, PA on 14th May 2023
"“So we’re currently in the Red era, if you couldn’t tell from all the Red. And this album, this album was one that I got to actually record and release twice! The reason for that being that I decided a couple years ago to completely re-record my first six albums. Honestly, that was something that, ever since I was a teenager, it’s just been very important to me to own my work, to own my art, to own the music that I’ve written, And you know, that’s what we call a passion project, you know. A passion project is something that as an artist, you care about it, but you can’t expect other people to care about it. And that’s how I went into this project. I went into it thinking, ‘You know what? This is just something that I’m doing for me. It’s not mandatory that my fans follow me down this path.’ But you guys were like, ‘Nope, nope. We’re going. We’re going. We have your back. Let’s do this.’ And so I re-recorded—I’ve re-recorded quite a few of them—and I call them Taylor’s Version. And so when it came time to re-release Red and redo that one, there was a song. So I have these songs that didn’t ever get released when the original album came out, but they’re songs that were part of the process, and part of the story, and I’m really proud of them. So I call those songs From The Vault songs. And so there was one song like that that I was so proud of, and that I really wanted to get it right when I put it out into the world, so I asked one of my favourite artists if she would sing on it with me, and she said yes. So I think if you were to make enough noise right now, Phoebe Bridgers would come out and sing it. It’s wonderful to see you in this context [PB: It’s good to see you.] Good to see you too, you know, with like 70,000 other people who are just phenomenal. This is a song I wrote about, I was 22 when I wrote this, and I wrote it about being scared that you guys will get really sick of me, and just be over me, and never want to hang out with me again. So just, you know, I don’t know, the sort of ten-year update: Thank you for not doing that yet. I appreciate it, because this is great. This is way better than the prophecy I was afraid of. So this one’s called Nothing New, should we play it?"
Taylor before playing Hey Stephen (guitar) in Philadelphia, PA on 14th May 2023
"Well hi guys! How are things going back here? Phenomenal, phenomenal. I’m currently about to start the section of the show where it’s just me, and you, and an instrument, for two songs, and this is a section that I get excited about every night because it’s both thrilling and terrifying for me, because every single song that I’ll do during this section I haven’t done on this tour before. It’s all completely a one-off. So I think long and hard about what a certain show, what a crowd might want. I try really hard to get it right, and to guess right. And sometimes I have people close to me that make requests. And I actually had a few really nice, fun people ask me to do this one, so I’m hoping it might go well. So I don’t know, the only way that I would know if it was like, going well with you, is if you sang along. So maybe we’ll start with ‘hums’…."
Taylor before playing The Best Day (piano) in Philadelphia, PA on 14th May 2023
"So we were talking earlier about how it’s Mother’s Day. And so, I think the time in my life that I will never be able to beat in terms of presents I’ve given my mom was, I secretly recorded a song on Fearless, and I didn’t, and this was harder then, to do, because I was, I think I was 16, 17 when I recorded Fearless, so secretly recording something, writing something, recording something away from your mom when you’re that age, and you’re me, was actually pretty difficult. So it was very sneaky and fun. And I wrote this song, just compiling these sort of core childhood memories of not just her as a mother, but her as my friend, you know? And she’s just been such a wonderful friend to me and so I wrote this song, and I recorded it for her, and I compiled all of this home movie footage, which ended up becoming sort of a music video for it that I put out on YouTube—you can like, watch it—I made that for her. I found all this footage and edited it on my laptop and set it to this song she hadn’t heard. And I played it for her, and like, played her the video with the song, and she’s watching it, and she’s like, ‘Oh, this is us! I love this footage!’ And I get to the end of the song and I’m like, ‘Did you like the song?’ And she goes, ‘It’s such a beautiful song! Where did you find that? It sounds exactly like the things that we went through. That sounds like our memories.’ I was like, ‘Mom, I wrote and recorded it secretly. It is our memories. That’s about us.’ And she just was like, ‘Oh!’ tears just immediately. It was the sweetest thing ever, because I just think she couldn’t have comprehended that I would write a song about the two of us, but I have done it. And it’s really, really, just, I get very—I’m gonna try to play it. I don’t know what’s going to happen."
Taylor Swift before playing Nothing New in Foxborough, MA on 19th May 2023
"You know, I really, really am enjoying this very Red era, Foxborough, Massachusetts, tonight. It’s like autumn. I very much correlate autumn, and fall, with the Red album. And I actually, the Red album is one that I’ve gotten to, it’s an album I’ve gotten to record and release twice now in my life. And the reason for that being, ever since I was a teenager, I have had this long-term goal and dream of one day owning my work, my music. And so a few years ago, I decided to completely re-record and re-release all of my first six albums. But I’m never going to stop thanking you, because this was something when I set about doing it, it was a passion project, and it still is. And by definition, a passion project is something you would still do whether or not it was successful, or did well commercially, or whatever. But you guys were like, ‘No, no, no, we got you. We’re gonna support these versions of the music. So thank you, thank you, thank you forever for doing that, because it’s just been such a joy to revisit these albums with you. I loved redoing them. I loved going back to the original groups of songs and finding these old songs that were supposed to be on the album at one point and didn’t end up making the album—songs that didn’t get to be released or heard before. And I call them From The Vault songs, From The Vault tracks, and when I was getting ready to re-record Red, there was a song that I rediscovered that I just loved so much, and I loved it enough that I really wanted to get it right. And to get it right, I really had this dream of getting one of my favorite artists to sing on it with me. And she said yes! So I think if we are going to make enough noise right now, Phoebe Bridgers would come out. So, here we are, Foxborough, Massachusetts, are you finding this as phenomenal as I’m finding all this? [Phoebe Bridgers: Yeah, this is incredible.] You guys, you’re on a level that’s above the other levels. Would you like for us to sing a song called Nothing New for you?"
Taylor Swift before playing Should've Said No (guitar) in Foxborough, MA on 19th May 2023
"So um, how are things back here? How is everyone doing? I just wanted to come hang out with you for a second. This is a part of the show here I play two different songs every night, so it’s like surprise songs. And so my goal is to, I just really wanted, if it’s the Eras Tour, the reason I wanted to challenge myself to not repeat songs is because I wanted to play as many songs on this tour as I possibly could, and people have different favorites, and I never really know which songs they are. Being that it is the Eras Tour, it’s been so much fun to go back and revisit songs I wrote when I was in high school, for my first album. This one, I had so much fun performing this when I was on my first album. I just would thrash until my head would come off my body. It’s called Should’ve Said No!"
Taylor Swift before playing Better Man (piano) in Foxborough, MA on 19th May 2023
“There was a song that I wrote originally for the Red album, and it just narrowly, narrowly didn’t make the cut. And then years later, a band that I love so much, Little Big Town reached out to me. And they said, ‘You know, we’re recording our new album, do you have anything that you think you it would be right for?’ And I just immediately, immediately knew I was going to send them a song called Better Man. It was really, really, really important for me, and it just came at a really nice time in my life, where it was so amazing to be recognized just as a songwriter by another artist who just wanted to record a song that I had written. And they took it all the way to number one, it got CMA Song of the Year. They were so wonderful to do that."
Taylor Swift before playing Nothing New in Foxborough, MA on 20th May 2023
"Wow guys. Man, this one’s for the books. This show is so—I want to say a quick thank you to my crew for essentially making sure that our stage was waterproof and we could do this show exactly the way that we wanted to do it for tonight, with full production. So we are firmly ensconced in the Red era, currently, right now. The Red era is an album that I’ve actually gotten to record and release twice now, in my life! The reason for that is that ever since I was a teenager, it’s been really, really important to me personally to own my work, to own my music, and to own my art. And you know, I made a decision a couple years ago to completely re-record my first six albums and re-release them. And when I re-released them, I called them Taylor’s Version, because that means that I own my work, which is really, these things, something like that, that’s what we call a passion project, that’s something you do just because it’s important to you as an artist. And I did this knowing, assuming that it wouldn’t be a commercial success. I just assumed that that would never happen, but that’s when you guys came in and were like, ‘No, no, no. We’re going to get behind these ones. We’re going to completely support you in this, and we’re going to make these ones outdo the originals,’ so thank you, thank you for that, I’ll never stop thanking you for that. It’s unbelievable what you’ve done for me, just across the board, but especially for that, because it was just so generous of you, and so caring to care about the same thing I cared about. So when I go back and re-record an older album, one of my favorite things to do is to go and get these songs that almost made the album—songs I had written for it, songs I had recorded for it, and re-record them and put them on my version on the album, just to give you the full picture, the full story of what that album was. And I call them From The Vault tracks. And for Red there was a From The Vault track that I was really excited about and I had this dream that it would sound amazing with one of my favorite artists singing on it with me. So I asked her to sing on it with me and she said yes! So, if you were to make a big deal and scream a lot, I am sure that Phoebe Bridgers would come out and sing Nothing New. So we’ve been having a bit of weather out here, as you remember from your show, how was that? [Phoebe Bridgers: Well I’ve just been hiding under the stage this entire time, so I’m dry] So I think we still have time for it to kick back in. We’ll see what happen. So how would you guys feel about Phoebe singing Nothing New up here, with me up here?"
Taylor Swift before playing Question...? (guitar) in Foxborough, MA on 20th May 2023
"This is the rainiest rain show that ever rain showed, ever, ever, ever. Oh my god. We have every single person on the stage—is this going to work? It’ll be fine. I hope it works. It’ll be great.—all of my fellow, like, dancers and everybody else on the stage is just sort of like, ‘Oh my god,’ no one ever expects you’re going to basically perform like in a shower. It’s really very exciting. Yeah. Are you having a nice time too? So you know, you’re standing in the pouring rain with people, and you just kind of feel like this romantic sense of camaraderie. I was thinking about what song to play with you tonight and I was thinking, there’s this song from Midnights that I love so much, and I haven’t played it on this tour, or ever, so I figured, that could be fun to play with you. And I just—oh my gosh, this is insane—I kind of just feel like telling you, I don’t know, I have just never been this happy in my life, in all aspects of my life, ever before. And I just want to thank you for being a part of that. Like, you know, I don’t know, it’s not just the tour, it’s like. I don’t know, I just sort of feel like my life finally feels like it makes sense. And so I thought I’d play this song, which brings me a lot of happy memories."
Taylor Swift before playing Invisible (piano) in Foxborough, MA on 20th May 2023
"So I was thinking if I was going to play a song from Midnights, then that’s my most recent album, so I figured it might be kind of interesting, maybe, to go back and go to the complete other end of the times, and sing something from my first album? And this is a song that I wrote, I think I wrote this when I was like 13 years old or something, it’s going to be interesting. The acoustic set is always a really fun, sort of terrifying, but sort of exciting challenge for me to just like, try to play something I’ve never played live before in a stadium of 70,000 people, and in this situation, like, in a water park, like underwater. So thank you so much for bearing with me. I’m going to try my best. This is called Invisible."
Taylor Swift before singing Nothing New in Foxborough, MA on 21st May 2023
"One of the cool things about being on the Eras Tour is that it really takes me back just on many trips down memory lane to these albums. Like the Red album is an album I’ve actually gotten to record and release twice now! And the reason for that being a couple years ago, I decided that I was going to re-record and re-release my first six albums. Why I did that is because ever since I was a teenager, it’s always been very important for me to own my work, to own my art, and my music. And you know that’s sort of a, you know, you file that under, that’s a passion project, right? Like re-recording your first six albums. I think when I announced that I was going to do that, there were quite a few music industry experts that were like, ‘Oof, this is gonna be fun to watch, because this is not gonna work. This is going to flop so hard. Let’s just watch this flop’ And you guys were like, ‘No, no, no, no, no, no, no, we got this. We’re gonna support her versions.’ Because you’re the nicest people in the world. So what’s actually been so amazing about going back and re-recording and revisiting these albums is when I put out my version of an old album, what I’ll do is I’ll go back, and I’ll look at all the songs I wrote for that project, songs that didn’t make the end album but songs that I really loved, and were part of that entire chapter of my life, so I’ll call those songs From The Vault songs. And I’ll re-record them, and put them out and give them to you so you can get the full picture of what the album was, and what it almost was, because that’s all part of it too. So when I was re-visiting Red, and I was thinking, ‘what do I want to include as From The Vault tracks?’ There was a song I was so excited about that I wrote when I was 22, and it was about me being like, deathly afraid of you getting tired of me, bored of me, sick of me, et cetera, et cetera. And so thanks for not doing that yet. But the song, I was so proud of it, because I don’t know, it felt like a really kind of vulnerable song that I had written and I wanted to put it out and I really wanted it to be as good as possible, so I asked one of my favourite artists to sing it with me, and she said yes! So Foxborough, if you were to make a big enough deal, I think Phoebe Bridgers would come out and sing it with me. [Phoebe Bridgers: Oh hey]. So here we are, having an extraordinary experience with these wonderful people who have been like, screaming and being nice to us all night. That feels really cool. It feels really fun. [Phoebe Bridgers: Very normal.] Very normal, so normal. Did you have a fun time playing for them earlier? [Phoebe Bridgers: Oh my god, you guys are the best.] YThis is crazy! [Phoebe Bridgers: If you’re like, they feel differently about this than you would, we don’t.] We know that this is crazy. Every time we see each other after the show, we’re like, ‘Was that the craziest thing that’s ever happened?’ Just being with you and getting to sing together. So I guess we’ll sing together now, but we’re just having the best time. This is called Nothing New."
Taylor Swift before singing I Think He Knows (guitar) in Foxborough, MA on 21st May 2023
"Okay so on this tour, this is the section where I have a guitar, and I have a piano, and those will be the only instruments played. And I do two different songs every night of the tour. I have not repeated a song yet! And this is a song, tonight, that I have never played live before. It’s a song that was just so fun to make, I remember being in the studio with Jack and just bopping to that one. It’s from Lover, and it’s called I Think He Knows."
Taylor Swift before singing Red (guitar) in Foxborough, MA on 21st May 2023
"I think there’s something wrong with the piano, because it’s playing keys that I’m not playing. Do you hear that, just going bonk like that? I’m not touching it. Here’s what happened. Here’s what happened. So it rained a lot last night. We had a monsoon, to be exact. It rained for three-and-a-half hours straight, and it just kept getting more, and more rain. Literally it was like a water park under the stage. You have no idea. Did you hear the piano? Are you able to hear that? It just went bonk. I didn’t even play that. So that means—oh my god, do you hear that? Is that happening for you? I’ll do another song on the guitar, it’s fine. So long story short, I get to my acoustic set to play last night, and you know when you’ve been in the bath for too long and your fingers are too pruned, I looked at my fingers trying to play guitar and it was like I’d been in a bath for two-and-a-half hours of lukewarm water, like pruned. Another thing that has happened is that this has broken my keyboard. It was literally underwater. I didn’t know how any of the instruments were working last night. So I’m just going to get my guitar, and it’ll be fine. Luckily, this is a song that I just will play it on guitar. So I practiced on piano, what key is it in on guitar? You’re just watching my brain just like, my four brain cells are trying to do this. Maybe I’ll do this—one second."
Taylor Swift before playing Nothing New in East Rutherford, NJ on 26th May 2023
“Is everyone enjoying the Red era so far? Good, same, honestly. The Red album is actually an album that I've gotten to record and release twice now. The reason for that being, when I was a teenager, ever since I was a teenager, basically, it's been really, really important to me to own my work, own my art, own my music. And so basically, a few years ago, I decided to completely re-record and re-release my first six albums. And like, when I embarked on this project, I knew, in my head, I was like, 'This is a passion project. This is by definition, this is a passion project. This is something I'm passionate about personally, but I can't expect or require or demand that people get onboard with it.' That's not something I would ever expect from you guys. But the craziest thing happened when I started putting out these versions of my albums, called Taylor's Version. You guys just decided that those were the versions that you loved, and those were the versions you cared about. I will be thanking you for that for the rest of my life. It's just something that's still really honestly, it makes me really emotional when I think about it. It's so insanely generous of you to have embraced something that for me, I had already decided was just, this was just my thing. I don't need them to, I'm not going to be mad at them if they don't join me. But you guys were like, 'Oh no. We're with you on this. We got this one. We got you. We're onboard. Let's go.' So when I do these re-records, it's so much fun because I get to delve more into the project than what you originally heard, or what I was originally able to release. I do these things where I go back to the project, and I look at everything I wrote for the project that didn't make the album, and I look at the ones that I love, and I re-record them, and I call them From The Vault tracks. So when I was re-recording Red, there was a song that never made the album that I wrote when I was 22, and it was actually about being afraid that you guys were going to get sick of me, so thanks for not doing that yet. Just, I thought, you know, I really want to put this song out, but I want to have another female artist on this that I love, and her perspective, you know? And I asked one of my favourite artists, one of my favourite songwriters. This person is like, just everything to me, you know? And she said yes! She said she would sing on it with me. So um, Phoebe, do you want to come out and sing with me? I love your dress so much! [Phoebe Bridgers: I love your coat!] Thanks, it's the same one I wear every night. I'm so glad it looks good in Jersey. [Phoebe Bridgers: It's magnificent.] So would it be cool if Phoebe and I sang Nothing New for you, and you sang with us?”
Taylor Swift announcing the music video for Karma ft. Ice Spice in East Rutherford, NJ on 26th May 2023
“So guys, these are my dancers. Do you want to say hi? Sorry, one second. Somebody is saying something in my ear, and I want you to say it again because I didn't hear it. Okay, can you say it again, if it's a message for me? Sorry, this is just, all the voices in my head, you know what I mean. You understand. Basically, this is a moment in the show that has not been in the show, because it's the first time we're doing something like this. Is that exciting to you? So last night, around midnight, I had a new deluxe version of my album came out, called Midnights (The Til Dawn edition), and I had some cool stuff on it. Something that I really want to talk about is the fact that there is an amazing artist who did a feature on Karma, and I want to explain how this came up, because it just felt like Karma, or like fate or something. Because, basically, at the very beginning of the year, the very beginning of the year, when I'm just starting to, I'm just starting to train for this tour, I was fully in it, I got reached out to by Ice Spice. And she reached out and said, 'You know, if you ever want to do a collab, I would love to.' What she didn't know at the time is that when I was training for the tour, I was listening to pretty much exclusively just her music every single day, all day, getting in the mood, getting in the zone to tour because of her. So I said, 'Absolutely. When can we do it?' So we immediately went in the studio, and when we went in the studio, I just not only fell in love with her, but just decided she was the entire future. She is so, I have been around so many artists and so many artists that are starting out, but I've never been around someone who is that prepared, curious, focused on what she wants. I was absolutely blown away, and I said, 'Would you ever want to do a music video for this?' And she said yeah! And so we did a music video for Karma featuring Ice Spice. But here's the thing: No one's seen it. No one has seen it. I wanted the dancers to be out here, because they're in it too. And what I was thinking, is that for the first time, I've never done this before, but for a couple minutes, we could turn this stadium show into a world premiere of a music video? Because we have a really, I was thinking, 'Where can we find a screen big enough?' And I was like, 'That's a very big screen. We could just watch it there.' This isn't like a movie premiere, where you have to be quiet. I want you to feel your feelings, always. This will be out at midnight on the internet, but it'll be out right now, just for you. This is the world premiere of Karma featuring Ice Spice.”
Taylor Swift before playing Getaway Car ft. Jack Antonoff (guitar) in East Rutherford, NJ on 26th May 2023
“So I was thinking about what song to do. This is the acoustic set, this is where we are in the show. This is a part of the show where I'll do two different songs every night, have not repeated a song yet. Cause the idea of the Eras Tour is we're trying to explore all the music, and I really didn't want to just play some of the songs. I'm trying to get to as much of it as I possibly can. But with this song that I'm about to play, it's a song that I, I'm sorry, I know that you have wanted to hear this one. And so I wanted to bring out someone to play it with me who I wrote it with. He's been my, just one of my best friends, and we've worked together for 10 years, but he feels like a family member at this point. We're so lucky that he is here tonight, and he's actually from Jersey. And so if we make enough noise right now, I think Jack Antonoff would come out and play. [Jack Antonoff: New Jersey!] We were thinking about it. We were like—we've written so many songs together. [Jack Antonoff: But there's one.] where we had, do you remember when we had like a really magical experience with a song? It just flowed. [Jack Antonoff: Sometimes we do that thing where we're shouting shit at each other. Where's the one where] we're just like, 'Idea, idea, idea!' [Jack Antonoff: It goes, it starts with you], 'It starts with...'”
Taylor Swift before playing Maroon (piano) in East Rutherford, NJ on 26th May 2023
“Off he goes. Great guy, great guy, solid guy. Jack feels like a cousin of mine at this point. He feels like an honorary cousin. So this is a song that I haven't played off of Midnights, but it's one of my favorite ones on it. And Midnights is all about all of these nights throughout my life, like things that kept me up, memories you keep going back to. So this one was a memory, just something I wrote about from a long time ago, but it took place in New York. There might be some people from New York here. It's called Maroon.”
Taylor Swift before playing Nothing New in East Rutherford, NJ on 27th May 2023
"The Red album is actually, it's an album that I've gotten to record it and release it twice now! And the reason for that being that ever since I was a teenager, it's been really, really important to me to own my work, to own my art, to own my music. And a couple of years ago, I decided that in order to do that, in order to own my work, I would completely re-record and re-release all of my first six albums. And you know, when I went into that, I knew that that was a passion project for me. That was something that I was going to do whether it was successful or not. It was just important to me personally. And so when it comes to things like that, I don't like to put that on people, because it's my thing. What's personal is personal. I wasn't going to demand that you like the Taylor's Version albums better, right? I wasn't going to demand that you support them. I asked politely for you to support them, but I didn't expect it of you, because I understand music is a really personal choice. But the most unexpected thing happened. When I put out my first re-record, which was Fearless, you guys went in. You were like, 'Nope. We like these ones. We support you. We want you to own your work. We got you.' And that was the nicest thing in the world. I'll never stop thanking you for that, because, yeah, it's really important to me. And the fact that you've decided it's important to you too is just the most beautiful, wonderful, incredible surprise. And when I go back and redo these albums, it's really fun for me, because I get to revisit that time in my life, and I get to revisit all the work I made that almost went on the album. I think that when I put these out, and I put Taylor's Version on it, I want you to have the entire story: all of the songs, not just the few that we put on the album. So when I go back and revisit these albums and re-record them, I find the songs that almost made the album, and if they're songs I'm still proud of, I'll put them on the album and call them From The Vault songs. And so when I was re-recording Red, there was a song that was really one that stuck out to me as one that I was really proud of, and I could really relate to it. I wrote it when I was 22, and I thought, it's a song kind of about, from my perspective, it was about you guys getting tired of me, and just being over it one day, and being like, 'Well, see ya. That was fun. You had some good songs. We're going to go over there.' So thank you for not doing that yet. I really appreciate it. But because it was from my perspective as an artist, I really wanted another artist who I really love and believe in and care deeply about it to sing on it with me, from her perspective. So I asked this artist that I just absolutely adore, and she said yes! And so I think if you were to give a really, really loud Jersey welcome to her, Phoebe Bridgers would come out and sing it with me! [Phoebe Bridgers: This is incredible]. This is incredible, and I was just thinking about how, guys, Jersey is Phoebe's last city on the Eras Tour! This, honestly, genuinely, I'm not being dramatic, that's devastating. That's insane. So I'm just basically soaking up every single second of getting to play with you. I love you. [Phoebe Bridgers: I love you bro.] Okay, we're going to sing Nothing New for you."
Taylor Swift before playing Holy Ground (guitar) in East Rutherford, NJ on 27th May 2023
"This is the part of the show with just you and me for a couple songs. And you know, in this acoustic part of the show, I have never played the same songs. I've done two different songs every single night of this tour so far. I'm continuing that tradition tonight, because I'm going to do one that's one of my favorites, and hopefully you like it too. But yeah, I feel like this is a pretty good choice for tonight. I'm pretty confident about it. It's called Holy Ground."

Taylor Swift before playing Nothing New in East Rutherford, NJ on 28th May 2023
"So we are pretty far into the Red era at this point! And Red is an album that I've actually gotten to record and release twice now. And the reason for that being ever since I started putting out music, when I was a teenager, it's been really important to me, personally, to one day own my work, to own my art, to own my music. And so what ended up happening was a couple of years ago, I announced that my plan was to completely re-record and rerelease my first six albums. And when I would do that, I would call them Taylor's Version, so if you see Taylor's Version on an album, that means I own it, and it's mine, which is great! And you know, this is sort of the definition of what we call a passion project. This is something that is personal to me, and I said to myself, 'I cannot demand or expect them to care about this as much as I do, because this is my thing, and this isn't something you see very often in the music industry.' So I went in with the expectation that this was just going to be my personal, little thing. And then as soon as I put out my first re-record of one of my albums, you guys rolled up your sleeves and went, 'No, we care about this too, actually. We're 100% in with you on this one.' So guys, I'll never stop saying thank you for that, because it's been really, it's been one of the most fun things to do for me, because I get to not only revisit my old music, and appreciate it more now that I'm older, but I get to go back to these projects and what I'll do is I'll look at the songs that didn't make the album that I wrote for the project, that were all supposed to be part of it, but didn't make the album for one reason or another. If I'm still proud of the song, I'll put it on the album and I'll call it a From The Vault track. So there was a From The Vault track on Red that I was really proud of, and I wanted to get it right, because I really loved it. And I wanted to ask one of my favorite artists and singer-songwriters to sing on it with me, and she said yes! So Jersey, I want you to make as much noise as humanly possible because Phoebe Bridgers is going to come out and sing for you. So I don't even know how to talk about this, but this is our last night together on this tour! I don't know what to say. I'm really sad. [Phoebe Bridgers: I'm so sad]. It's sad. [Phoebe Bridgers: You are my hero]. What are you doing to me? [Phoebe Bridgers: You are my hero. I love you so much, you will never know.] What are you doing? I love you! You're just honestly, I'm going to like—okay, thank you for being the friend that you've been to me. This is really something that we could have written in a note to each other, and just been like, 'Thank you for being the friend that I will never, ever stop confiding in and trusting. I love you with everything.' But this is the last time that we're going to get to sing together on this tour, so I feel, I just, what are we doing? We should have planned this better. Just thank you for everything, thank you for being on this tour, thank you for being my friend, thank you for making the best music ever. [Phoebe Bridgers: Thank you for changing my life]. This will go on for three-and-a-half hours, if we don't play the song. This is called Nothing New!"
Taylor Swift before playing Clean (piano) in East Rutherford, NJ on 28th May 2023
"So it's a bit self-explanatory, but this is the acoustic section of the show. And all the bells and whistles go away, and you're stuck with me. Just me and you! So I've been doing this thing on the tour where I try to not ever repeat a song, like I'll do two songs in this section, but I'll try to make them two different songs than I've ever done on the tour. However, I do have stupid little rules that I come up with that I change periodically, depending on my feelings. So basically, one of the rules that I created was that if I mess a song up, I'm allowed to do it again. So I didn't really mess this one up badly or embarrassingly, but I did play it before, and I thought that I could have done it in a higher key. And I want to do it again because I love you. This crowd is really special, and I had a feeling you would be. So I thought, 'You know what, if they're as special as I think they're going to be,' and this is so, just important, and meaningful for me, for everyone on this tour, when we get to play in this stadium. It just, it is. And you guys always show up like 113%—I'm sorry, but you do. That's the exact number of enthusiasm that you give us. So this is a song that I felt like, just based on what I've seen from you guys, that you might want to hear. It's called Clean.”
Taylor Swift before playing I Wish You Would (guitar) in Chicago, IL on 2nd June 2023
"So welcome to the acoustic set! This is a part of the show that I've tried as hard as possible, since this is the Eras Tour—I've done it again, don't look at that, don't look at that, it's perfec. The quick-change is in the dark. I get it right like 70% of the time. So acoustic set, I've tried, because this is the Eras Tour and I'm trying to play as many songs as I can that I don't usually play, I'm trying to do new ones every night, I'll do a song on the guitar and a song on the piano, and they're both completely new songs that I've never actually played this one acoustic live before, so that's a challenge. It's from 1989."
Taylor Swift before playing The Lakes (piano) in Chicago, IL on 2nd June 2023
"You know, people kind of ask me how I'm picking songs for this section, and it's a very, very imprecise science. And sometimes it's really as simple as this: I was thinking about this weekend, and I was like, 'Oh, I love Chicago. I love the people. I love the crowds. It's just always such a great vibe when we go there, and it's so cool that they have lakes near there. They have lakes there that are so big, and kind of give off a vibe of like, oceans instead of lakes.' And so I've never played this one. This is called The Lakes."

Taylor before playing You All Over Me ft. Maren Morris (guitar) in Chicago, IL on 3rd June 2023
"Welcome to the acoustic part of the night! So every single time I’ve done this section, I’ve really tried to play different songs than I’ve ever played before, and that’s a way of me deciding to play songs that I’ve never played live before, or songs that maybe you might have wanted me to. It’s been really fun. It’s been an exciting challenge, and tonight I’m going to play a song I’ve never played live before, so that’s fun. And the backstory to this, so a couple years ago, I announced I was planning on rerecording my entire first six albums. You have been so incredibly supportive of that. The reason I did that is because when I was a teen, that was when I decided it was really important for me to own my art, and my work, and my music, and since then I’ve been trying to get to that place where I could own my music. So you know, this is kind of, by definition, that’s a passion project. That’s something that an artist does because it’s personal to them. I was not, I had decided, ‘I’m not going to be demanding about them liking these versions more, or supporting these versions more.’ I call them Taylor’s Versions when they’re mine. But the craziest and most amazing thing happened, which is when I put up the first re-recording I did, Fearless, you guys just went in. You were like, ‘No, we got your back. We’re supporting these ones. We want these ones.’ So thank you from the bottom of my heart. What I do when I re-record is I pick songs from the project, and I put these songs on the album that almost made the album, like songs written in that time and then somehow in the process of narrowing down songs, they didn’t make it. But if I look back on songs, and I’m proud of them, when I go back and re-record, I put that song on the record, and I call that a From The Vault track. So for these songs, when I was doing Fearless as a re-recording, I was really, really, really—I thought it would be so cool to have one of my favorite artists sing on one of the songs that was From The Vault. And we are so lucky Chicago, we are so incredibly lucky, because not only did that artist say yes to sing on the song with me, but Maren Morris is actually here tonight! They’ll keep screaming! You don’t have to run! Won’t you keep screaming for her? How you doing? [Maren Morris: I’m good. You are killing it. I’m nervous!] Oh don’t be. She shouldn’t be nervous, right? It was so, so nice, and so generous of you to lend your voice to the very first re-record that I had, because nobody knew that this was going to be like, a success, or a very embarrassing project to be part of. It could have been very embarrassing for you! [Maren Morris: It’s one of my favourite records. So, it was an honor to be on it. And also during Covid, it was that weird time.] That multiplies my thank you by like a billion. So thank you for doing it. [Maren Morris: It was honestly such a pleasure, and, was anyone at reputation tour? That’s the last time we did this.] The last time we did this was on the reputation tour. She came out and was a surprise guest with me. She’s one of my—we’re talking about you like we’re not here—you, and she, she’s one of my favorite artists. I just cannot wait to watch everything she does for the rest of her career. Everything she does is so thoughtful, and so brilliant. One of the best songwriters I’ve ever met, and you’re going to sing with your beautiful voice for us. This is called You All Over Me."

Taylor Swift before playing Hits Different (guitar) in Chicago, IL on 4th June 2023
"I just want to say, there have been like thousands of times I’ve seen someone in the crowd and just seen them like, performing for their life. This crowd is so special. You guys are so amazing, like on a one-on-one basis, I’ve just made so many new friends tonight. You guys are just so amazing. I just, people are going to ask me, ‘Are you tired at the end of the show?’ No—are they tired? You guys are like head-banging, and thrashing, and screeching, it’s so fabulous. I know that. I see you. I salute you. And I don’t know if you’ll know this one, it’s kind of new. But we’ll see!"
Taylor Swift before playing Haunted (guitar) in Detroit, MI on 9th June 2023
"So welcome to the acoustic section of the Eras Tour! It’s gonna be me, you, this guitar, and this piano, and what I’ve been doing on the Eras Tour is I’ve been trying to not repeat songs. I’ve been trying to do like, songs I haven’t played before on the tour in this section. So it’s a really exciting challenge, and slightly terrifying, but also really fun. I’m excited, because tonight, this is one of my favorites to do. We talked earlier about how incredibly supportive you’ve been of me re-recording my first six albums, I call them Taylor’s Versions when I own my work, and something really, really exciting is coming out in a very short amount of time. Speak Now (Taylor’s Version) will be out on July 7th! And I’m so excited about it, and so there’s something I want to do tonight, so this is called Haunted.”

Taylor Swift before playing All You Had To Do Was Stay (guitar) in Detroit, MI on 10th June 2023
"So this is the acoustic section of the night, and a little one-on-one between you and me and this guitar. This is a section where I've been doing, because this is the Eras Tour, and it's just fun to kind of explore songs that I don't usually play acoustic, or songs that I don't usually play live, and bring them back for a moment during the show. So my goal was to just pretty much never repeat a song, and so this is a song, I really don't think I've ever played this acoustic, but I love this one so much. And I was, it's interesting because it has this like really loud, really high sound in it that's like, 'Stay!' You know? So I don't know, you guys have been singing really impressively all night. I don't know how your high upper register is, but if you could really just get it ready for all the like, 'Stay!' and help us. It's called All You Had To Do Was Stay"

Taylor Swift before playing Mr. Perfectly Fine (guitar) in Pittsburgh, PA on 16th June 2023
"Welcome to the acoustic portion of the evening! Every night, it’s equally what I am most excited and nervous about, in equal parts. It’s 50/50, because these are songs—this is the part of the evening where I do two songs, one on guitar and one on piano, and each of them has not been performed on this tour, or maybe ever. The song I’m going to play, has never been performed before live. So we were, we’ve been talking all night about music, we’ve been dancing through these eras, and I feel like it’s important for me to mention that there are two albums I’ve played tonight that I’ve actually gotten to record and release twice now in my life: Fearless and Red. And the reason for that being is that a couple of years ago I decided to completely re-record my first six albums, and re-release them. I call them Taylor’s Versions, so if it says Taylor’s Version next to something I put out, it means I own my work, so that’s always a good thing. The most wonderful thing in the world is that I went into this as a passion project. I had no expectations or demands that you choose my versions over the old ones. I was never going to put that on you, because music is such a personal thing. But the coolest thing happened when I put out—the first re-record I put out was Fearless (my version), and you guys did the best thing in the world. You just basically jumped on board, and you were like, ‘Nope, if this matters to you, it matters to us. And we have your back on it, and we understand it.’ And one of the really, really fun things about getting to re-record my older albums is that I get to go back to the original work that I had made for that album, and if I’m still proud of a song, then I’ll give it to you and I’ll call it a From The Vault track. On Fearless, there is a From The Vault track that was, I think it was actually, I don’t know why it didn’t make the album. I still can’t remember, because I loved it so much, and I still love it now, and I have decided to play it tonight. It’s called Mr. Perfectly Fine!"

Taylor before playing seven ft. Aaron Dessner (piano) in Pittsburgh, PA on 17th June 2023
"Hey, look, it’s Aaron Dessner! Guys, a lot of you just screamed incredibly loudly, so a lot of you know who this man is, right here. But for anyone who doesn’t, this is like, what I would categorise as a soulmate collaborator. He is the most incredible musician, instrumentalist, songwriter, producer, and without him, folklore wouldn’t have happened. So, say hi to Aaron! Do you want to say hi to them? [AD: Hello! It's so beautiful here. You guys have the best rivers. It's beautiful.] It is such an interesting compliment to give them. [Aaron Dessner: I come from down the river, in a rival city, so.] Wow, usually we talk about sports rivalries, but the waterways, that’s a big one that nobody talks about. This is why you come to a show like this. You really get into the truth. I want to say something really quick, because I did think about, all night, I’m looking out into this crowd, there are so many amazing dads here, who brought their kids, or they just have kids somewhere, but didn’t bring them. Anyway, there’s a lot of people who are either fathers or father figures—to me, it counts exactly the same—but tomorrow’s Father’s Day, and you’re a father, and you’re a really good one! And I was thinking about the song we’re going to play, because I actually, I’m not trying to brag, I have a really, really incredible dad, like hasn’t-missed-a-show-type of dad. He’s just the best, and I love him so much, and the song we’re going to play has to do with really fond memories of childhood, and growing up in Pennsylvania. It also has to do with—it mentions a friend’s father, and it mentions how when someone doesn’t have a good dad, how hard that can be for them. So if anyone here has difficult relationships with their father, or with the concept in general, if you want to think of the people who have played a father figure role in your life, tomorrow and tonight, I’m really grateful for my dad, for you [Aaron], for anyone out here who spent hours and hours preparing to be at this show with their kid, thank you for that. And I’ve always wanted to play this song in Pennsylvania! This is called seven!"
Taylor Swift before playing The Story Of Us (guitar) in Pittsburgh, PA on 17th June 2023
"And basically, this is a part of the show where I’ve really been trying to challenge myself to play songs that I don’t ever usually play, or haven’t played in ages. And so, it’s been a real adventure. You know, I want to mention one thing, about, before I play this next one. So I’ve been re-recording my first six albums. That’s a thing I’ve been doing for the last few years. And it’s been such an amazing experience because you’ve been so supportive about it. It’s, all of it in a quest to own my art, to own my work. That’s always been really important to me since I was a teenager, and so you’ve just been absolute dreamboats about the whole thing, because you’ve been so supportive. And I’m just over the moon, because in such a short amount of time, I have another re-recorded album coming out, and it’s Speak Now. So I’m going to play The Story Of Us!"
Taylor Swift before playing Paper Rings (guitar) in Minneapolis, MN on 23rd June 2023
"Welcome to the acoustic part of the evening, ladies and gentlemen! So on the Eras Tour, something I’ve been doing that I’ve been loving, because it is equal parts so thrilling and terrifying is that I’ve been doing two different songs every single night, most of which are songs I’ve never performed live before! Most of them have lots and lots of lyrics. I don’t think I realized how wordy my songs were until I embarked on this mission to do different songs every single night. But it’s exciting, and I’m excited about this one, because it’s one that I’ve seen people requesting this one in massive amounts like, the entire tour. And I wanted to do it tonight because you, Minneapolis crowd on a Friday night, are fantastic. I knew you would be. You guys are always so nice to us. And also, people have just been, you guys have been really supportive of the Lover album recently. It’s insane. It’s been so amazing, because I just loved that album, and I was so proud of it, and to see it, I don’t know, it’s getting to listened to a lot this summer. It’s so nice of you to do that. So I thought I’d do a song that you guys asked me to do a billion times, and I love you so much, that I think it’s time to play Paper Rings."

Taylor Swift before singing Dear John (guitar) in Minneapolis, MN on 24th June 2023
"Welcome to the acoustic part of the evening, ladies and gentlemen! Guys and gals and non binary pals, everyone here, welcome to the acoustic set! So one thing I always just want to mention to you is that I will never be able to thank you enough for what you’ve done for me in terms of, I’ve been re-recording my first six albums, I don’t know if you know about this? Yeah, it’s been something that’s really, really important to me, and ever since I was a teenager and I started putting out my albums, I knew that my long-term goal was to one day own my art, my work, my music. That’s just always been something I’ve really wanted and dreamed about. And so a couple of years ago, I announced that I was going to be re-recording and re-releasing my entire first six albums, and I’ve put out two of them, and you’ve been unbelievably, supportive is too small a word. It’s just been beyond that. It’s been unbelievable to me, unfathomable really, I’m completely blown away by what you have done for me, because you didn’t have to do it, right? This is a passion project. This is something that I wanted to do personally, because I wanted to own my work, but I went into it knowing that I wasn’t going to put an expectation, or a demand on you guys to like, pick my versions, like my versions of the songs better, but that’s what you did, and it was fantastic and you’ve been amazing. So I want to talk to you a little bit about something I’m really excited about. 13 days from now, Speak Now (Taylor’s Version) is out. So I want to talk to you a little bit about this because Speak Now is an album that is so incredibly important to me. This was an album that I wrote between the ages of 18 and 20, and I wrote it completely alone without any collaborators in the co-writing department, and it was something that I wanted to do, I think to prove to myself, and I ended up writing a really, really intense, magical album that I cannot believe gets to come out in a form that I will own, and be able to call mine in 13 days. So you know, with that said, I get to stand on this stage every single night of this tour and watch the most beautiful things happen. I watch you guys make friends with each other, I watch you bond, I watch you give each other friendship bracelets, it’s like, I see so many beautiful interactions happen, and I hear so many stories about friends that were made at these shows, and I watch it happen every night. It’s the most unbelievable thing to watch. And so I was hoping to ask you that as we lead up to this album coming out, I would love for that kindness and that gentleness to extend onto our internet activities, right? So, what I’m trying to say is, I am putting this album out, because I want to own my music, and I believe that any artist who has the desire to own their music should be able to. That’s why I’m putting out this album. I’m 33 years old. I don’t care about anything that happened to me when I was 19, except the songs I wrote and the memories we made together. So what I’m trying to tell you is I am not putting this album out so that you can go out and should feel the need to defend me on the internet against someone you think I might have written a song about 14 billion years ago. I do not care. We have all grown up. We’re good. So I am saying that because, only because I am proud of it as a song, I am going to play Dear John."

Taylor Swift before playing I'm Only Me When I'm With You (guitar) in Cincinnati, OH on 30th June 2023
"Welcome to the acoustic section of the evening! This is, this is the Eras Tour, as you know, but basically, one of the things that I wanted to do when I thought of the idea for this tour is that because of you, I’ve been very lucky to get to do this for 745 years—that’s how long I’ve been putting out music, to be exact. It’s a joke, it’s actually 20, no, 17…hmm, how old am I? Basically, I think the reason I’m getting confused is because I’m going to play a song now that I wrote when I was 13. So I don’t even, I wrote this before I even thought I would ever have a first album, so it’s kind of like the self-titled, debut representation of the evening. But it’s also kind of like, middle school era for me. I was like 13 when I wrote this, and I didn’t think I get to play a show for you that even 200 people would come to. This just takes me back, it makes me so grateful for you tonight, and it’s called I’m Only Me When I’m With You."

Taylor Swift before playing ivy ft. Aaron Dessner (guitar) in Cincinnati, OH on 1st July 2023
"So welcome to the acoustic portion of the evening! This is a section of the show that I look forward to and also am terrified of in equal measure, but it’s all very exhilarating. Basically, I play different songs every night of this tour. So the thing about the Eras Tour is like, you know, we’re playing so many songs tonight, but there are so many other songs that I’ve maybe just never played live before? And that is the case with the song that I’m about to play. And there’s something even more exciting I have to say tonight. So, um, I in recent years met a collaborator that I love more than ever [..] forever the craziest, most wonderful thing that he came into my life. And he happens to be in Cincinnati, Ohio! We are so lucky, because your boy is here! Aaron Dessner is here! [Aaron Dessner: Helloo! Cincinnati! I just wanted to say, […] standing up here with the greatest living songwriter, playing songs that we wrote]. So, do you want to play Ivy?"
Taylor Swift before playing I miss you, I'm sorry with Gracie Abrams in Cincinnati, OH on 1st July 2023
"So this is the cool thing about this acoustic section, right? We kind of do whatever we want. And I am going to do a thing that I really, really, really want to do right now, and I don’t think we’ve done something quite like this on this tour. […] So we’re actually going to make this—this is actually going to be a three song acoustic section. That’s exactly what I was hoping that you would say. So, you started this show an hour early because we had weather stuff. We absolutely had to do that, or else we were going to run into some issues. And so one thing that happened that I was really sad about is that we have this amazing, incredible opening act on this tour named Gracie Abrams. She’s one of my favorite artists. And she’s one of my favorite friends, and I love her so much and we’ve never sung together before. So I want to bring Gracie out onstage. Is that okay with you Cincinnati? There’s a song that I love, I love all of your songs, but there’s one I love that I want to sing with you. [Gracie Abrams: I have no words right now]. I’m so happy. It’s really crazy up here. We’re gonna play a song! We’re gonna play I miss you, I’m sorry!"

"Well, things are popping off in KC on a Friday night. Oh my god, that was so fun. That was really fun. Should we do some acoustic songs? Some surprise songs? So welcome to the acoustic section of the show. This is a section of the show where I have done my very best to never repeat a song, and I’m still going. I’ve been doing this tour. I’ve been really trying to play songs from every era. But you have arrived on Speak Now night, so I’m going to do some songs that I’ve never played live before. And now I’ll just do it."
Taylor Swift before singing When Emma Falls In Love (piano) in Kansas City, MO on 7th July 2023
"So if you know this song, then I’m so impressed, because it just came out. It’s one of the vault tracks on Speak Now. And I wrote it about one of my best friends."
Taylor Swift introducing the I Can See You music video premiere in Kansas City, MO on 7th July 2023
"Do you ever get so excited that you need to sit down? I just need to take a second, and I need to sit down because I’m going to show you something that I’ve been planning for years. Okay, so basically, I think about a year-and-a-half ago—I don’t even know what to do. I’m just too excited. Maybe a year and a half ago, I dreamed up this concept for a music video, and so I wrote up the concept and I wrote up a treatment, I knew exactly how I’d want to shoot it, want to do it, and I had a very, very specific cast in mind for this music video. And it was really just all about, ‘How do we get these people who are doing movies all the time to be in this, and to have the time to do it?’ And so eventually, schedules lined up, we shot a music video in Liverpool, and I’ve always wanted, ever since I started re-recording my albums, I always wanted to tell a story visually that symbolically portrayed the ways that you guys have helped me get my music back. And so I want to play you a music video, premiere tonight, nobody has seen this, this is a world video premiere of the music video for I Can See You from Speak Now (Taylor’s Version). Please direct your attention to the big screen!"
Taylor Swift before playing Last Kiss (guitar) in Kanas City, MO on 8th July 2023
“Kansas City, welcome to the acoustic section of the evening! So there is a reason I was going to play this guitar for the particular song I have selected. Not only is the song from Speak Now, but on the Speak Now World Tour, I used to play this guitar, every night when I performed this song. And I don’t know if you noticed what the date is today, but it’s July 8th. It’s very late in the evening July 8th, and so soon it will be July 9th. You know what time it is Kansas City? It’s time to play Last Kiss and cry!“

"Welcome to the acoustic portion of the evening! So this is a new tradition that, I haven’t done this until the Eras Tour, but the fact that it’s called the Eras Tour, and I’m kind of trying to go back and explore a lot of my music that I haven’t played live before, or that I haven’t played in ages, like such a long time, because I feel like, if we’re, I don’t know, in the spirit of nostalgia, we should be exploring all the eras, you know, including like my first album that I wrote when I was like 14? This is Picture To Burn!"

"So welcome to the acoustic section of the evening! So on this tour, since this is the Eras Tour, and I’m trying to really re-explore all these different parts of music that I’ve written and that you’ve been so nice, and encouraging, and supportive of over the last 17 years that I’ve been putting out albums, and so I’ve been trying to do different songs every night, and do ones that I haven’t done in ages or just, I’ve really tried not to repeat any and I don’t think I have—I only have when I messed up. That’s the other rule: If I mess up, I get to do it again so I can redeem myself. But for the most part, these are all just songs I haven’t really performed very often, or at least in like a decade or something. This is one of those songs that I haven’t done in a really long time. It’s called Starlight!"

"Welcome to the acoustic section of the evening! This like, this is equally my favorite part of the night, and also the most nerve-wracking because here’s the thing I’ve been doing on this tour: It’s called the Eras Tour, so really the idea is, shouldn’t I be playing as many songs from as many albums as possible, that I’ve maybe never played live before, or never played acoustic before, whatever—it’s a challenge. And I feel like it’s more fun that way. But I have not, I don’t repeat songs, it’s like, I’m always trying to do two new songs in the acoustic section. So I figured tonight I would do one that I’ve never played acoustic, and see if you know it.
Taylor Swift before playing Everything Has Changed (piano) in Seattle, WA on 22nd July 2023
"I’m always going to be very honest with you about when don’t we have a surprise guest. We don’t, you’re stuck with me. You’re stuck with me, so I’m going to play this as adequately as possible for you. There is no special guest, you are stuck with me, it is only me, there’s not, there’s not a special guest—oh are you clapping for me? That is so nice. I wrote this one with one of my really great friends, who is not here. It’s not a joke, I’m just letting you know. I do love him, and I do love this song."

And the songs that I haven’t ever played live before—that sounds exciting to me, playing something that we had just never done acoustically, or in the case of this song, this is something that I’ve never, I just haven’t played it live since I recorded it. So I hope you like it!"

"And so we have brought the folklore cabin to the Bay Area, yes! So folklore is an album that I’m extremely proud of because it just was unlike any experience I’ve ever had making an album. First of all, I started writing it two days into the pandemic. We were all trying to figure out ways to escape from our reality that we found ourselves in suddenly, and let’s just say folklore was the one productive way that I did that in the pandemic. But I did that also by deciding that even though I may, I don’t know if you know this about me, but I tend to sort of write autobiographical songs. Did you know that? I have done that as a pattern, and as a habit, and this was the first time that I decided, ‘You know what? It would be kinda fun to put a little distance between myself and the songs, and maybe create characters, and these characters can fall in love, break up and betray each other, hysterically cry. And it was actually such a blast, because it was a challenge, and a different type of writing, and equally fulfilling, because I got to like, infuse my emotions into those characters, and some of my favorite ones were this teenage boy named James, and James, let me tell you, he really royally screws things up with the love of his life, sometime around the month of August, you know? And he has to apologise to her and win her back and try to earn her trust back by showing up at her party, and her name is Betty!"
Taylor Swift before singing right where you left me (guitar) in Santa Clara, CA on 28th July 2023
“Welcome to the acoustic set of the evening! This is my friend and collaborator Aaron Dessner. Come say hi! [Aaron Dessner: Hellooo!] We are going to do a song for you that is one of our favorites that we’ve worked on together, but because it is one of our favorites, there’s also more pressure on it. So, this is one of the wordiest songs. I have been rehearsing this for weeks. I have never, ever gotten it 100% right, not even one time. If this is the time that I get it right, you have no idea what kind of celebration I am going to be exhibiting after that. And also, this goes for you, if you can get all the words right to this song, you get to pat yourself on the back, because you’re the best. You win an imaginary prize. It’s yours. We love this song. I hope that I can somewhat do it justice. This is called right where you left me.”

When I thought about, when I dreamed of the idea of the Eras Tour, I thought it would be really fun to sort of go back through all these different phases I’ve had musically, because it’s been a little bit of everything. You’ve been so kind to me, in letting me explore genres, and step outside boxes that are created for us by the music industry, and that’s only because of you that I get to do that, so thank you! Because it’s just so much fun. It’s so much fun to get to play, and to get to experiment, and to get to grow as an artist. But I did want to play a song just to thank the people who liked me when I was a little teenager writing songs for my high school talent show."

"Welcome to the acoustic section of the evening! This is one of my favourites, and if you agree—and I hope you do agree—you should sing it really loudly!"

Taylor Swift before singing Dress (guitar) in Los Angeles, CA on 7th August 2023
"Welcome to the acoustic set! So, when I was putting together this tour, I was thinking about fun stuff that I wanted to do. I was thinking about the fact that I’ve named it the Eras Tour, and I kind of wanted to sort of assign the acoustic set as a place where I would like, challenge myself to play songs I don’t normally play live, or songs that I haven’t played live in a long time, or songs that I haven’t played live in an acoustic way. So it’s been equally exhilarating and terrifying, because it’s a different one every single night—it’s a different two every single night, actually. This is a song that I haven’t played live acoustic. But I have played it live, and I miss playing it live."

Taylor Swift before playing I Know Places (guitar) in Los Angeles, CA on 8th August 2023
"Welcome to the acoustic set! This something that I’ve been doing as a tradition on the Eras Tour, because it just becomes a fun way to challenge myself to do songs that I’m proud of, and that I love, and that I haven’t performed in awhile. And it’s equally exciting and terrifying at the same time, because often times they’re things that I have never performed live or that I haven’t performed in the acoustic way. That is the case with the selections this evening!"

Yes, this really is the 10 minute version. Tissues required, martinis recommended. Consider this my magnum opus.
My “every RomanGerri song is TaylorSwift coded” agenda has reached its peak with this.
