Chicken OCS??? Oh hell yeah. What are their favorite foods?
ohh that’s a tough one. I haven’t really thought of it much…
Umbra would probably like a lot of seafood, given she grew up near the ocean. Her favorite would probably be shrimp, especially if it’s paired with rice or grits.
Dia will eat just about anything you put in front of her, but he especially likes dumplings and corn. Also she has a bit of an appetite for burgers and pizza.
Clover has a major sweet tooth, but sweets and candies are luxury for her since she lives off the grid. So she would probably love sweet breads and berries, since those things are more accessible to her.
Maggie likes really plain foods. They would probably be fine if you made her eat plain pasta for the rest of her life. Easy Mac and instant ramen are their favorites. She knows she likes them and they are quick and easy to make. Tho they can get a bit expensive.
Rosetta likes more flavorful and homemade food than her sister. She eats a lot of roasted bugs and other forms of protein because she usually works jobs that require a lot of physical labor. Her girlfriend is a really good cook and even Maggie has taken a liking to her food. Rosetta’s favorite meal is probably roasted moss patties on rice and Alfredo sauce.

I prefer the book of life i find the whole "these people that look like wooden dolls are meant to be the ones from the history while real people outside of the history don't have the wood look" amazing and a great detail and LA CATRINAAA??? gorgeous woman (also I should say that idia could be the xibalba in the Catarina and Xibalba dynamic there is just this vibe yk yk)
Book of life came before Coco (plus Disney didn't own the century whatever company that book of life originally was from) and when Disney did make their own Dia de los muertos themed movie they tried to TRADEMARK EL DIA DE LOS MUERTOS TO MAKE MERCH? Insane.
(Making Pastel de choclo and other chilean dishes like pebre but it just isn't the same with regular ingredients instead of your country ingredients yk? LIKE HARVESTED ON YOUR MOTHER COUNTRY it doesn't taste the same I would include that as a step in the recipe that I am giving Azul totally knowing my country doesn't exist in twst and Azul is taking that step seriously lmao)

Oooh so I didn't have time to answer this yesterday since I was busy at work. But my general thoughts are that while I enjoy both movies and their portrayal of Día de Muertos, the book of life feels (and is) a story made for and by Mexicans for other Mexicans. You can tell from the music styling, the humor, and the artistic style itself! There are for sure some liberties taken (Xibalba is not a god in mythos it's the name of the underworld roughly) but it feels very true and faithful as an experience. Coco, while I enjoy it, feels more like a group of well intending white Americans wanting to make a movie about Día de Muertos, though I'll give credit they did have Latino artists and cultural workers involved. The style of the movie just also feels more American and, as part of a study I did in undergrad, most Mexicans and other Latinos in general feel that it was made with a very general audience in mind rather than Mexicans or Latinos at all.
La Muerte in the book of life is a very interesting version of her and her design is beautiful! Los muertos in general in the first movie have a more fun, varied design to them, while the second movie just looks and feels like another Pixar film. I don't think it's a bad movie, I loved it and the music is wonderful, but it doesn't feel as genuine, especially watching as a Mexican.
If you like the book of life, the creator also has Maya and the Three (set in the same universe) but also created the nickelodeon show Le Tigre and the CN show Victor and Valentino. He's a Mexican animator, so all his shows are set with that background in mind, but it's very enjoyable for anyone to watch! If you're a fan of the music the composer is Gustavo Alfredo Santaolalla, who also did the music for the Last of Us games and show, Brokeback Mountain, and also Maya and the Three.
As for the Disney trademark thing, I know their request was either revoked by Disney themselves or denied due to the backlash. For anyone not super familiar with Latin holidays and stuff, Disney trademarking Día de Muertos is the equivalent of Hallmark trying to trademark Christmas. The only thing they can trademark now is their specific characters and imagery associated with their film, but there's a lot of drama surrounding that and using the likeness of real people and their art in the film without permission.
(I feel you about the food tho, I can't make certain dishes without a very specific brands and items sometimes. I would actually refuse to cause it won't turn out right, and I'm not damning myself or my cooking abilities lmao. Azul would probably get so stressed out with both of us aslkjdalkj)

Uncle Wayne Munson & his Mexican Nephew
Because I have to put these hcs somewhere!
x When Eddie arrives at Wayne's house he doesn't want to speak English, just to annoy Wayne and let him know he isn't happy in this place, at this moment, so he spends months speaking Spanish and being an asshole, until one day he says (in Spanish) he doesn't like his breakfast and Wayne, with all the patience of the world. Still, stern face says "¿Entonces qué quieres?" (then what do you want?) and Eddie just gets astonished. It isn't good Spanish, but it is Spanish because Wayne spent the last week with a cheap dictionary and getting help from coworkers. He still practices it to the point he can have conversations with Eddie, and this kid decides is enough and speaks English to him.
x Later, he tries to contact other Latin/Mexican people around or in the capital to learn more about traditions and such. When Halloween finishes and young Eddie goes home with candies, saying goodbye to his new friend Nancy, Wayne has already an altar with pictures of his mom and other family members. Even a small space with a picture of Eddie's cat Mr. Meow. It's his first Dia de Muertos out of his house, and without his mom, so ofc he cries a bit. But they enjoy the candies and turning the candles on
x Wayne always tries to have some Mexican candies or Mexican food recipes, talking with someone from Eddie's family or just checking around on books. Eddie isn't great at cooking but is fantastic with pastries, Mexican snacks, and desserts. At least once a week, they do something new or their favorites.

Os 50 anos da conquista invicta do Campeonato Paulista de 1972 pelo Palmeiras contada pela revista Grandes Clubes Brasileiros, da Rio Gráfica e editora (baixe aqui esta edição histórica na íntegra)

Há 50 anos, no dia 3 de setembro de 1972, no Estádio do Pacaembu, o Palmeiras (que tinha a vantagem de um ponto e precisava apenas de um empate), empatou em 0 a 0 com o São Paulo e levou o título daquele ano da 71ª edição do Campeonato Paulista (organizada pela Federação Paulista de Futebol) de forma invicta. Curiosamente, o São Paulo também terminou o campeonato invicto, um feito inédito nos campeonatos promovidos pela Federação Paulista, que até hoje não foi igualado.
O Palmeiras que amargava seis anos sem conquistar o Paulista (o último havia sido em 1966), ainda impediu, de quebra, e pela terceira vez na história, que o São Paulo conquistasse o tricampeonato paulista (isso já tinha ocorrido em 1947 e 1950 e ainda se repetiria em 1993).
A segunda academia palestrina, comandada pelo técnico Oswaldo Brandão, tinha jogadores a compor um elenco dos sonhos, perfeitos em cada posição: Leão; Eurico, Luís Pereira, Alfredo Mostarda e Zeca; Dudu e Ademir da Guia; Edu Bala, Leivinha, César e Nei.
O São Paulo, comandado por Alfredo Ramos, não ficava atrás, tanto que terminou com o mesmo saldo de gols (25) e apenas uma vitória a menos (14) e portanto um ponto a menos (37, lembrando que naquela época a vitória contava dois pontos) em um total de 22 de jogos: Sérgio; Forlán, Samuel, Arlindo e Gilberto; Édson Cegonha e Pedro Rocha; Paulo, Terto, Toninho Guerreiro e Paraná.
Para celebrar e capitalizar a ocasião, a revista Grande Clubes Brasileiros, da Rio Gráfica e editora S.A., do Rio de Janeiro, pertencente às Organizações Globo, da família Marinho, lançou uma edição verdadeiramente histórica, que meu pai Katsuia (1937-2020), um palmeirense fanático, adquiriu nas bancas e que tive o cuidado de preservar. Foi por esta revista que fiquei ainda mais apaixonado pelo Palmeiras, e isto na época da fila, que começou em 18 de agosto de 1976, quando o Palmeiras ganhou o Paulista vencendo o XV de Piracicaba por 1 a 0 no Parque Antártica, com gol de Jorge Mendonça, e só foi terminar naquele inesquecível 12 de junho de 1993, já na época das vacas gordas da Parmalat, quando sob o comando de Wanderley Luxemburgo, derrotou o Corinthians na finalíssima do Paulista por 4 a 0 no Morumbi, com gols de Zinho, Evair (2) e Edílson.
E é a todos os palmeirenses e/ou amantes do futebol e da história, que trago esta primorosa edição na íntegra, que não se limitou a contar em detalhes, jogo por jogo, como foi a trajetória do alviverde até a decisão, mas reconstituiu em minúcias a história do Palestra Itália e do Palmeiras até então, não deixando inclusive de falar sobre a famigerada Copa Rio de 1951, alçada tardiamente ao status de mundial interclubes e não reconhecida como tal e tida como uma bazófia pelos principais rivais (para pôr fim a essa polêmica, fiz um estudo a respeito que publiquei aqui no blog).
