El expresionismo ¿Qué es y que significa?

El expresionismo es una corriente artística que nació en Alemania durante comienzos del siglo XX. Se le considera una estética que hereda aspectos del romanticismo, pues según David Méndez es "un concepto distinto de lo bello que obedece a la agitación del alma y no a las modas" (p.49).
Este arte, por medio de la literatura, la danza, la música y el teatro, destaca las sensaciones y los sentimientos del ser humano, puesto que busca una respuesta emocional.

Es por ello que es considerada como una reacción en contra del impresionismo y sus objetivos, considerando el nuevo arte como subjetivo, deforme y distorsionado, que refleje las emociones del artista y no al reflejo del poeta sobre el mundo real.

Lamentablemente, durante el nazismo (1933-1945) el expresionismo alemán fue catalogado como un arte "degenerado", por lo que las obras expresionistas fueron confiscadas y destruidas.
Die Brücke y su expresionismo

El expresionismo alemán surge con el grupo Die Brücke (el puente) el cual expresaba su arte con la figura de un puente.
Como sabemos, el puente es una vía de unión entre dos cosas, y para Die Brücke, el puente era el camino desde el pasado hacia el presente. Para ellos, el arte del pasado es considerado como la admiración por los grabados en madera de los artistas renacentistas, mientras que el presente o futuro inminente es considerado como el arte que está fuera de las ataduras de la tradición.
Die Brücke no estaba preocupado ni por físico ni las apariencias, sino que se preocupaban por los sentimientos, lo que el corazón quería expresar en el telar.
¿Cómo sería ser expresionista hoy?
En primer lugar, tal como afirma Méndez (2017) se debe tomar en cuenta que el expresionismo utiliza los desastres, ya sean naturales o de otra índole, para crear arte. Siendo así, tiene un carácter apocalíptico y espiritual.
"Hay pintores que hoy siguen esta senda que explora las miserias de lo humano, por eso la pintura expresionista nunca ha desaparecido completamente, porque incide en aspectos que también forman parte de nuestra naturaleza y que siempre estarán ahí" (p. 38)
En otras palabras, este tipo de temas y estética característica del expresionismo puede seguir en las obras de arte actuales. Tal como se puede apreciar en las siguientes obras:

Se puede apreciar la similitud en cuanto al uso de los trazos y la mancha, además de que el tema es parecido "partes del cuerpo". Es así como nos podemos dar cuenta que, en cuanto al arte, el expresionismo en realidad nunca ha desaparecido del todo.
Mujeres en el expresionismo
Lee Krasner
Fue una influyente artista de Estados Unidos en la segunda mitad del siglo xx, estudió arte en un momento donde la situación era difícil para las mujeres. Fue esposa de Jason Pollock, por quien siempre fue opacada en cuento a su arte, aun así, ambos fueron grandes exponentes del expresionismo abstracto.
La pintura presentada se llama "Nacimiento" (1956), obra realizada por Krasner poco después de la muerte de su esposo.
Alma Woodsey Thomas
Fue una artista del siglo xx, creció en una época y lugar donde ni siquiera tenía permitido entrar a un museo y mucho menos exhibir un trabajo propio de ella. A pesar de la situación, Alma nunca dejó de lado su gusto por el arte, y a la edad de 70 años comenzó a tomarse en serio su carrera artística.
La pintura presentada corresponde a "The Eclipse" (1979).

German Gender and Pronunciation
Hi guys! I’m using this as my notes for a German course I am taking and was thinking I could share with you guys if you are also interesting in learning or if you can correct me/help me with my studies :)
Pronunciation...
German pronunciation is super hard compared to English for me, but I think it is something I will get the gist of soon enough! Here are a few things I noticed on German pronunciation... sp and st in words are changed to shp and sht. V is pronounced with an F sound. If the word ends in B/D/G, the sound it makes is kind of like P/T/K. The E at the end is also an uh sound.
Gender...
German has three noun genders, here are the definite articles: der (dare), die (dee), and das (daas). Masculine, feminine, neuter; respectively. The ability to predict whether or not a word is masculine, feminine, or neuter seems to be kind of all over the place so I think it will be in my best interest to just learn the gendered nouns as they come and hopefully find patterns later on.

das Gymnasium high school (because why gym = hs??)

Did you know that Rubik's Cube has 43,252,003,274,489,856,000 possible combinations? In 1974, Erno Rubik, architect, sculptor and designer lived with his mother in a modest two-room apartment in Budapest, the capital of Hungary. One spring day, he decided to grab small wooden blocks and join them with elastic ropes. I was looking for manual teaching tools to help students understand three-dimensional movements. And that led to the birth of Cube.
When the strings snapped, Rubik applied some simple engineering to make the pieces move independently without the mechanism falling apart. Cut and sanded the small blocks, assembled and marked each side of the Cube with a different colored adhesive.
And, as soon as possible, he started spinning them. Once the prototype was ready, it was obvious that it encapsulated a problem to be solved like a puzzle, he points out. "It was wonderful to see, how after a few turns, the colors blended." After a while, I decided it was time to put the buckets back in order. And, at that moment, I found myself head-on with the great challenge: which was the way back? ".
As much as the Hungarian teacher, at that time, of 29 years old, turned his invention, the colors were getting more and more stirred. He admits that at first, he didn’t even know if the problem had a solution, and describes it as being faced with writing written in a secret code he couldn’t read. After over a month, and after trying different sequences of movements, Rubik was able to show his mother a Cube with his colors in order. "I remember how proud I was when I showed it," he says. "And she was very happy, hoping that, from that moment on, she wouldn't work so hard at it."
