What is the most underrated satirical song about the music industry, and why is it Alan Jackson's "Gone Country"?
"Gone Country" is the pinnacle of scathing country-music-industry songs. Plenty of country artists from at least the '60s onward could and did record whiny, self-righteous songs that explicitly state things like, "Those guys aren't writing real country music. We're what real country looks like."
"Gone Country" takes the much subtler approach of providing three scathing character sketches of artists who are getting into country music purely for the money, and letting us judge their hypocrisy for ourselves.
The aging Vegas star taking the flimsiest excuse for identifying with the demographic: I'm a simple girl myself, grew up on Long Island.
The folk singer looking for a more lucrative genre even though he looks down upon the audience: He's been writin' songs speakin' out against wealth and privilege. He says, "I don't believe in money, but a man could make him a killin'." and I hear down there it's changed, you see. They're not as backward as they used to be.
The pop-music executive who wants to get out of a faltering genre: It sounds so easy, it shouldn't take long. Be back in the money in no time at all.
Plus, the instrumentation changes subtly for each verse, making use of instruments that are better suited for the original genre of each artist.
It's brilliant, brutal satire, yet that part of it gets overlooked because you can also line dance to it.

Okay, friends, I’m back again to discuss more seasonal music!
Since we’re less than 24 hours to Christmas at this point, I want to know what some of your favorite holiday songs are. Again, I’ll share some of mine, too. Starting with:
Shake Up Christmas by Train:
Funny about this song: I first discovered it in a Coca-Cola commercial several years ago. It’s got a really uplifting tone to it, and an overall good message: Christmas is a time to be happy, and you gotta spread it.
Driving Home for Christmas by Chris Rea:
This song really hits me right this time of year: the feeling of going out on the road, coming home for a few days, and noticing all the other people doing the same. The instrumentals really tie it all together.
Christmas Wrapping by The Waitresses:
This one just screams 80s. It’s a potpourri of madness, but in the best way. And it’s very relatable: the holidays are rough to deal with, especially with all the people to face and all the tasks you gotta check off. Sometimes you just need some time to yourself during the holidays.
Let It Be Christmas by Alan Jackson:
Yes, more Alan Jackson. This song is a nice little snapshot of all the different places around the country/world that celebrate Christmas, and everything that makes Christmas so special.
And there you go! Some of my favorite Christmas/holiday songs. How about the rest of you? What are some of your favorite songs around this time of year?

even now i have always thought it was a shame that maria, clyde & alan weren't in the stolen earth / journey's end with sarah jane, luke & mr. smith. i just know that maria would have loved meeting the doctor & probably would have been low-key having the time of her life saving the world on such a scale. clyde would have give us the most legendary lines & absolutely would have ended the daleks & davros entire career with roasts that they never would have recovered from. also maria's dad would probably have been hit on by jack whilst also being the first human in history to upload a computer virus to a dalek all the while ✨panicking✨ & fearing for the safety of everyone like the ultimate tv dad he was.

Lyrics:
Well, way down yonder on the Chattahoochee
It gets hotter than a hoochie coochie
We laid rubber on the Georgia asphalt
We got a little crazy but we never got caught
Ah ha
Down by the river on a Friday night
A pyramid of cans in the pale moonlight
Talking 'bout cars and dreaming 'bout women
Never had a plan just a livin' for the minute
Yeah, way down yonder on the Chattahoochee
Never knew how much that muddy water meant to me
But I learned how to swim and I learned who I was
A lot about livin' and a litttle 'bout love
Well, we fogged up the windows in my old Chevy
I was willing but she wasn't ready
So I settled for a burger and a grape snow cone
I dropped her off early but I didn't go home
Down by the river on a Friday night
A pyramid of cans in the pale moonlight
Talking 'bout cars and dreaming 'bout women
Never had a plan just a livin' for the minute
Yeah, way down yonder on the Chattahoochee
Never knew how much that muddy water meant to me
But I learned how to swim and I learned who I was
A lot about livin' and a little 'bout love
Well, way down yonder on the Chattahoochee
It gets hotter than a hoochie coochie
We laid rubber on the Georgia asphalt
We got a little crazy but we never got caught
Well, we fogged up the windows in my old Chevy
I was willing but she wasn't ready
So I settled for a burger and a grape snow cone
I dropped her off early but I didn't go home
Yeah, that's right
Down by the river on a Friday night
A pyramid of cans in the pale moonlight
Talking 'bout cars and dreaming 'bout women
Never had a plan just a livin' for the minute
Yeah, way down yonder on the Chattahoochee
Never knew how much that muddy water meant to me
But I learned how to swim and I learned who I was
A lot about livin' and a little 'bout love
A lot about livin' and a little 'bout love
