The two times Rue reminisced the happier, simpler days of being “just Rue”, while Mytho was at the forefront of those memories, Ahiru was seen at the end.
(Emotionless) Mytho is the object of her affection, but Ahiru is the first to have given her unconditional love.
One to love and one to be loved by.
Just like Rue taught Ahiru everything good about dancing, Ahiru taught her that just the act of loving someone can be as beautiful as being loved by them, a lesson she heeded when Mytho was about to get his heart eaten by the Raven.
Her selfless declaration of love did not only save Mytho, but her as well. She then became more comfortable with conveying that feeling.
And the second person who received her “I love you” was the one who had never stopped caring about her.

Not to bring Utena into other shows, but Ahiru and Rues narrative reminds me of Utenas themes “Any girl who cannot be a princess is doomed to become a witch.” Ahiru is not a princess, she is a duck, and for not being able to embrace this, she must die for the story to go on, Rue is the witch because she is not a perfect victim, sitting waiting to be saved by her prince, she is deemed a villain by the narrative, even though she is suffering, it’s so good it’s so good
