Man of the Mundari. © Trev Cole The Mundari cattle camp, seldom visited by outsiders, is quite simply incredible. The dust and smoke intermingle to create an inimitable atmosphere. The tribes' wealth lies in their cattle and there are thousands of them. When young men of the tribe get married the dowry may be as much as 40 cattle. They cover themselves in the ash from their fires to protect against insects. #watuspaces #visitafrica #africa #african #africanlens #africanculture #africanart #africantourism #atlasofhumanity #africanphotography #potraitphotography #tribesofafrica #africantribes #contemporaryart #art #artspaces #africanpainting #hyperrealism #afrorealism #natgeoafrica #natgeoyourshot #photooftheday #photography #quoteoftheday https://www.instagram.com/p/CisfnDXt2SQ/?igshid=NGJjMDIxMWI=

Zanele Muholi's indelible 2006 portrait, "Martin Machapa," is reproduced from new release 'Events of the Social: Portraiture and Collective Agency,' featuring 117 color and 115 black-and-white photographs from the world-renowned @walthercollect Gathering work by three generations of artists—including Sammy Baloji, Jodi Bieber, Mimi Cherono Ng’ok, Alfred Martin Duggan-Cronin, David Goldblatt, Seydou Keïta, Malick Sidibé, Mikhael Subotzky and @muholizanele among others—this volume presents a group of artists who can be seen as "agents of a postmodern paradigm shift" towards "biopolitical reflections, neocolonial critiques, gender-right advocations, ritual reactivations, multi-species theories, and political calls to action through the will of the collective," according to editor and curator @edyanganiose Published by @steidlverlag Read more via linkinbio. #zanelimuholi #martinmachapa #eventsofthesocial #africanportraiture #portraiture #africanphotography https://www.instagram.com/p/CnzTHRZg9j6/?igshid=NGJjMDIxMWI=

Murchison Falls, also known as Kabalega Falls, is a waterfall between Lake Kyoga and Lake Albert on the Victoria Nile in Uganda. At the top of Murchison Falls, the Nile forces its way through a gap in the rocks, only 7 m (23 ft) wide, and tumbles 43 m (141 ft), before flowing westward into Lake Albert. The outlet of Lake Victoria sends around 300 cubic meters per second (11,000 ft³/s) of water over the falls, squeezed into a gorge less than 10 m (33 ft) wide. #murchisonfallsnationalpark #visituganda #safari #africansafari #africanphotography (at Murchison Falls National Park) https://www.instagram.com/p/CakhG2HKljE/?igshid=NGJjMDIxMWI=

"Very few people really know African cultures in depth, due to their diversity, often foreign to our continent, getting to know them up close becomes difficult for a large percentage of the globe. That makes the image manipulation process easier and with it the transmission to the viewer. I work on the concept of individuality and loneliness. This is how I came to the African masks and these characters. The special sparkle in their eyes, the way they live, the marks and lines on their bodies leave their traces and denote their belonging." Felipe complements his original motivation behind his work. © Felipe Bedoya #watu #watuspaces #visitafrica #africa #african #africanlens #africanculture #africanart #africantourism #atlasofhumanity #africanphotography #potraitphotography #tribesofafrica #africantribes #contemporaryart #art #artspaces #africanpainting #hyperrealism #afrorealism #natgeoafrica #natgeoyourshot #photooftheday #photography #quoteoftheday https://www.instagram.com/p/CmMZ-B5sBx_/?igshid=NGJjMDIxMWI=

Seydou Keïta's "Untitled" (1952–55) is from Events of the Social: Portraiture and Collective Agency, African Photography from The @walthercollect @edyanganiose writes: "For the modern subject, the studio is a space of transformation. Individual and group portraiture, both in the studio and on the street, is a space of actively searching for typologies and narrations in one’s immediate context. It was the main instrument available to photographers like Seydou Keïta, Malick Sidibé and J.D. ‘Okhai Ojeikere to break down mythical preconceptions of everyday life and culture in cities across the African continent. For example, Ojeikere’s hairstyles and Sidibé’s portraits are both gestures of taxonomy and serialization that sought to see the poetic in the mundane—a more conceptual than anthropological exploration, which signaled a revolutionary change in the formulation of Black subjectivity." Published by @steidlverlag Read more via linkinbio. #eventsofthesocial #africanportraiture #portraiture #africanphotography #seydoukeita https://www.instagram.com/p/CnzuUOUpj5m/?igshid=NGJjMDIxMWI=
