Unpopular opinion #3 (since people seem to like these stuff)

I'm gonna get hate for this but

Hinny feels forced and out of nowhere to me.

They had the perfect set up for a cute romance. Best friend's younger sister whom he's used to take care of, but suddenly she grows, doesn't seek his attention anymore and he slowly gets to know her as her own person instead of his buddie's sister. He find himself drawn to her and feels guilty about it for the typical reasons, only to realize she feels the same way, always has, and boom, their feelings finally clash in a passionate kiss after months of sexual tension and years of mutual pining. Beautiful.

Or at least that's what could have been if we saw them interacting more after the Chamber of Secrets thing, but we don't. Ginny practically dissapears after that, we only know of her through others' pov, and when she finally becomes relevant in harry's radar is when she's dating other boys and shows her skills in the quidditch field. Then suddenly, he notices how beautiful and funny she is, even though they're from the same house and they've surely seen each other often, either at the Burrow or around the common room.

They don't have a proper built-up, or any relevant interactions that hints at harry's interest in her, at least not enough to showcase the epic endgame couple they're supposed to be. It feels to me like the recurring trope that when a girl is in love with the protagonist long enough, she's bound to end up with him. Or the when someone is in love with you for so long, you must give them a chance.

I think one of the reasons it pisses me off so much is ginny's wasted potential. Because we could have had an amazing and compelling story about personal growth with a girl that, sick of being in her brothers' shadow and overlooked, finds the courage to forge her own path and make people recognize her for who she is, not as another Weasley. A story where, instead of fooling around to "make time" until her crush to notices her, she moves on from him and starts to date boys because she actually likes them and enjoys dating.

But no. Instead, all that development from her part is reduced to "hermione told me you might like me if i acted more like myself" "she told me to date other boys" bla bla bla

In conclussion:

Hinny had great potential as a love story, but it was done poorly

(REMINDER: This is just my opinion, and by no means i intend to force it unto other people or offend anyone. if you like hinny as a couple, good for you. I won't attack you because of it)

#i love ginny weasley as her own character #she's a fucking badass and a damn queen #but when it comes to her relationship with harry potter?#EW #no thank you i'll pass #i hate when a girl's personal growth is built around her hopeless crush for a guy #she had all the reasons in the world to want to grow as a person but an unrequited crush WASN'T one #like it could have been great and one of my otps #but we don't see them interacting not even as friends #and suddenly he's completely in love with her?#we know ginny was into him from the start #but we don't see any indication on harry's part until it's already shoved in our faces #it would have been much better if she actually moved on from harry but fell for him again eventually once they became friends #and show us how harry slowly sees her as a girl he's attracted to and not just as ron's sister #as well as his inner turmoil because of it #anyway #thank you for attending my ranting #harry potter #ginny weasley #hinny #anti hinny #aesthetically they're great #but i love more the “what could have been” in my head #hp rants #pro ginny weasley #to remind people i don't hate her

related ramble: genuinely if the part of decked out that appeals to you is "incremental progress in which the players must learn the map bit by little bit and also understand when to turn around and bail to learn more of the map later in another run", you don't mind games that are hard, and you like rpgs. please play etrian odyssey. please they're such good games and no one ever talks about them. please,

#they're largely ds and 3ds games HOWEVER the first 3 were remastered for switch! making them EVEN MORE ACCESSIBLE!#i will warn you the games are slightly notoriously punishing but the recent remasters DO add difficulty settings #which means you can avoid some of the more notoriously punishing aspects #AND THE ART STYLE IS SO GOOD. AND THE /MUSIC/#the aesthetics of etrian odyssey are some of my favorite video game aesthetics they're so NICE #so i am now using my 10k followers to try to convince One Other Person to play my pet rpg series.#my one warning is that if you play rpgs for the story. etrian odyssey expects you to make up a lot of the characters in your head #and tells you the bare bones of a story in second person #which isn't to say that's BAD; it's really good i get attached to my party of five ocs really fast #it's just if you're used to jrpgs you WILL go in and go 'wehre. is the plot.'#its there! the games just expect you to make up much of it! and it's great!#my point is: if you're going 'huh i might like dungeon crawlers' CHECK THEM OUT

Honestly, you could put Sanji and Usopp next to each other and that would instantly make it one of my favorite color spreads. So I'll just tell you about the ones I remember the most:

This one is iconic. Perfect in every way. Love the clothes. The vibes. They're just chilling. Besides, they all look so pretty too!! Usopp drawing is one of my weaknesses. And Sanji looks like he's having so much fun!! My beloveds <3

#james talks #riverdale #miss the whole crew really but Betty especially bc Lili was so magnificent #god as perfect as the finale was (and it really was one of the greatest finales ever) i wish we had gotten another season #they had as good a run as a show on that network could hope for but there are few shows on there that eclipsed the network like Riverdale #like the list includes like. Crazy Ex-Girlfriend and Gossip Girl. and ig The Vampire Diaries. and that's it.#(that list is for shows almost exclusively produced by the CW. CXG DID have other producing companies but it was largely the CW).#no show will ever quite be like Riverdale ever again and no show will ever reach the heights it did.#especially not on their shoestring CW budget.#like honestly i just need more Riverdale in my life.#like RAS and the writing team found such a great way to turn their weaknesses into strengths.#as an article on the show once said [paraphrased]: it was a great show that was really good at pretending to be bad.#even now nobody gets the show like i do.#everyone thinks it's some silly little show about crazy shit with crazy plotlines and pretty lighting and aesthetics but no substance—#when in reality it's an incredible pulpy anti-fascist text questioning the role of authority using those aesthetics for a larger purpose #but i'll save the real analysis for whenever i get around to actually making the Riverdale video essay i need in my life #unless Quinton Reviews or SuperEyepatchWolf beat me to it first. they're the only people who i think will actually understand the show.#like SuperEyepatchWolf's video on the show is already pretty fun even if it's a little dismissive of the substance of the show—#(tbf to him it only covered up until the S05 mid-season finale and S06 hadn't released yet)#but like he at least feels like he gets the spirit of the show. especially with the wrestling comparison.#and i hope i don't need to explain why Quinton would get it.#anyway. i need the Riverdale crew back.

Minor throwaway sentence in a book on corruption I've just finished was talking about 1930s gangsters and about certain organisations in Chicago which the author stated were more ethnically diverse than the Italian mafia, and whose members were said to have included 'Irish, Welsh, Italian, and Jewish' gangsters.

Now call me sheltered but I've seen MANY Italian American gangsters immortalised in film, I've heard of the Jewish mob, and the police Irish American gangs but I have yet to see a movie about the Welsh mob. As a rule I don't go in for gangster movies but I feel there's an unfilled niche here and also I need more info.

#Might delete this in a bit #On a more serious note given the context of the Great Depression and slumps in the coal mining districts of Britain #I can see why Welsh people who emigrated to America might be form an impoverished immigrant community targeted by organised crime #And possibly my surprise comes from outdated national stereotypes and the fact that popular stereotypes of 1930s gangsters #Rarely include immigrant groups that are largely Protestant (at least in the US- in Glasgow and London it's a different story)#Makes me wonder if all those Catholic Aesthetics that directors who make movies about Italian and Irish mobsters are so fond of #Would play the same with Meredith Davies who may be a crook but at least he regularly attends the Methodist chapel #And is a teetotaller and a fixture in various choirs #Welsh accents are often quite soft too I think I'd be fucking terrified of a Welsh gangster in a movie tbh #To be fair real life organised crime obviously encompassed people from all walks of life I'm more interested in movie depictions here #'More Welsh representation!' 'Ah yes how about as gangsters?' 'Er...'#Less surprised if I come across Scots because eventhough they're privileged in the US English media does seem to view Scottish accents #As threatening so Scots often get roped in to play tough guys and gangsters and villains in all sorts of media #And often they will get an Englishman to play a Scot and Scots to play Eastern Europeans which is also weird #But that's off topic; I am not however used to Welsh villains

i think one of my favorite things about chai is that yeah he’s a scott pilgrim/marty mcfly/ben tennyson/generator rex but instead of being solely a power fantasy or the chosen one or some guy you can project on he’s a character that can be enjoyed by anyone, whether you like the previous kinds of characters or whether you just want to watch a lovable idiot smash things with the power of friendship and a trash guitar

#hi-fi rush #listen. lovable idiot characters are the future. look at death flag otome and similar anime #look at that one game whose name i forget i checked out in 2019 #and they're great as protagonists because they always do so deeply care about their friends #but that doesn't stop them from embracing their role as comic relief #and no one ever tries to defend them because they're projecting too hard on them #also he matches my desired blog color scheme and i love the comic aesthetic
