When Yuuta enters the french-style bistro café and you wave at him excitedly with both hands, the first thing his eyes are drawn to is the catching of light on the facets of your new engagement ring.

You notice this, too, and the thought of it makes you almost sheepish. Yuuta looks somewhat exhausted as always, dark circles a natural feature of his visage much like Kento’s harsh cheekbones or Megumi’s frown, but he smiles when he sees you, approaching quickly and taking a seat across from you.

You lean in, grinning. “I was worried you were going to ghost me!”

Yuuta offers you a soft smile. “I’ve never ghosted you, I’m just busy. I figure you know what that’s like once in a while?”

You frown, deciding that you’re not exactly a fan of the jab, although it’s something to expect in your catching up. You’re usually the one who starts the teasing, and it’s been in that arrangement since your days together at Jujutsu High, but over time as your relationship developed, Yuuta became far more adept at teasing you back, and you realized quickly that you’re not as great at accepting what you dished out.

“I can still be busy without fighting curses 24/7,” you whine. “You know I was never meant for this shit.”

Yuuta doesn’t reply, instead turning his attention to the waitress who now that you’re no longer effectively being stood up, comes by to provide glasses of water. Yuuta orders a coffee and a sandwich, and you splurge with a pasta dish.

“In the meantime, I guess I’ll just take all your missions,” he says flatly. You jut your lip out at him again.

“You’d think you’d actually be nice to me considering you haven’t seen me in person in six months, Yuuta-kun.”

Yuuta pauses, then tilts his head. He’s not exactly sure why he’s giving you such a hard time, but he won’t pretend any longer he doesn’t know why you called him out specifically. His eyes flash to the ring again. Your lips are still sealed but he can see the excitement practically on the tip of your tongue. Maki’s already told him over a week ago.

“Congratulations on your engagement, ___.”

You beam and thank him, and Yuuta remembers how quickly and easily you express your emotions, how fast you cry, how loud you laugh, and how bright the light in your eyes grows when you think of Yuuji.

“I didn’t expect it, actually,” you add. Yuuta laughs as warmth sets in your cheeks and you wrinkle your nose.

“Considering you threatened to kill me if I killed him back then, I’d hope that this would be the outcome.”

You blink, and the scene returns to your mind. Yuuta squashing the ladybug curse you’ve sent to spy on him; you in angry tears pleading for your new friend’s life, for the absolution of a kind boy who liked you just a little too earnestly from the very first glance. You’d told him that night that the higher ups would use Yuuta to execute not just Yuuji, but the three of you - you, Yuuta, Yuuji - the children whose executions were staved off by the same man, in one fell swoop. You’d told him he’d die too, even if you never developed the strength to become his executioner in turn.

“I still wish you had told me the truth,” you murmur. You’d said more than was right that night, thinking endlessly of whether or not your technique could really seal Rika if it came down to it, thinking of what it would be like to miss one of your best friends, but bygones are bygones.

“Probably should have.” Yuuta replies. His sandwich arrives and he thanks the waitress politely. You sprinkle black pepper heavily on your pasta before turning it on your fork. He bites into his sandwich and you watch him, slurping up your own noodles. Yuuta is quiet by nature, but this silence is heavily pregnant and makes you uncomfortable. The distance between you has grown, whether you like it or not.

You swallow your noodles and finally break the silence.

“Do you think I’m making a mistake, Yuuta-kun?” you ask, finally. Your voice is small now as if someone were to overhear you, enough that he just barely catches as he looks into his coffee mug, his reflection just barely visible on the surface of the drink. He looks up at you and forces his dark blue eyes to soften.

“Of course not.”

You breathe through your nose as your eyes meet his. “Is that all you think?”

Yuuta chews and swallows and holds your gaze.

“He loves you,” he replies, simply. You try to find a lie, a flicker of something repressed in his features, but find nothing. You’re not sure what exactly you’re looking for, but your heart stirs.

“I know,” you reply.

There’s another pause. Then your shoulders sink. You sigh and it’s light but Yuuta can tell when you’re trying not to cry.

“I don’t think my heart is a good enough match,” you finally admit. Yuuta knows exactly what you mean by this - he understands your penchant for negativity more than Yuuji does, he knows what it’s like to feel darkness, something Yuuji constantly fights against. Yuuta’s hand moves slowly and pats yours on the table. It’s gentle and kind, but not intimate. He’s lost that right by now, and probably for good reason.

“You’re the best thing that will ever happen to him, ___,” Yuuta reassures you.

After all, you’re one of the best people he’s ever known.

A tear makes it past your lash line and you laugh, embarrassed as you pull your hand back to wipe it away. Yuuta thinks about how your hand feels to hold for just a few moments longer. He hasn’t held your hand ever, he thinks, but he knows Yuuji has. Many times over.

“I can’t believe I dragged you out to complain about my engagement,” you shake your head and slurp up more pasta. “I’m not talking any more for the next ten minutes, so you better tell me everything about Fukuoka.”

“Kill count first or sightseeing?” Yuuta jokes, and it makes you laugh. He smiles too, and fiddles with the ring on his own finger. Rika’s ring, a binding vow.

He hopes Yuuji’s curse of love will be strong enough to protect you forever.

about Gojo, Geto, Shoko, loneliness and love

spoilers for 220

written by my local monkey friend that i got permission to translate! don't take it as actual fact though, this is from our overall perspective from reading the latest chapter.

In Shoko's memory, there's an image of Gojo with the loosed white bandages, who said "I won't let anyone be alone (独り/hitori) anymore" so you can see, the memory is around a year before the main events of jjk (~2017), and the time when vol 0 occured.

Speaking of vol 0, there was a scene at the beginning when Gojo was talking to Yuuta when he received death sentence by the higher ups, he said something similar: "But being alone (一人/hitori) is very lonely?"

They (独り/一人) have they same pronounciation (hitori), but 一人 is to count the number, and 独り is the state of being lonely. For example, you are in a room with 10 people => you're not alone (一人), but you can still feel lonely (独り). Basically, you can be surrounded by many and can still feel lonely. And in chap 220, what Gojo doesn't want his students to go through anymore, is being lonely (独り). on top of that, he used もう誰も (no other (person) anymore) which means Gojo himself had to go through that state, or he witnessed someone else going through it.

What Gojo wanted is "I won't let any other person be lonely anymore", not "I won't let anyone be lonely", meaning he doesn't want the PAST to reoccurred, so it's not him just being kind out of goodwill or anything. The reason for it is to make up for the past he went through.

Back to the subject individual of "being alone" state, Shoko, as one of the 2 people in Gojo's beautiful 3 years of youth, has given the right answer: "Truthfully, being in love (愛/ai) with either of you guys (オマエら/omaera) is something that will never happen even if the world falls down. But I was there (with you) too, what do you mean alone, you idiot. There's this bunch of monsters waiting for you to come back".

Gojo himself never mentions who is the individual behind that "loneliness", himself or someone else, but Shoko can immediately realize what he means. And that is because she links "being alone" with "you guys" (オマエら) (Gojo and Geto), and at the same time thinking about them during school. A Geto Suguru who felt alone with his spiral, with the insane ideals that he thinks no one could understand; and a Gojo who felt alone even though he stood among many peers and comrades because he lost the feeling of standing side by side with someone equal during his "first and last blue spring".

Next, we need to pay attention to the word "love" (愛) that Shoko uses.

Shoko uses 愛 (ai) when talking about her relationship (or lack thereof) between her and her two friends. In most cases, this word means romantic love, and it is heavier than the use of like (好き/suki). She is denying to hell and back that never ever in this life that she has feelings for them ("even if the world falls down"), but she "was there" too. It means she admits that she cannot provide (romantic) love for either of them, but she is still there for them as a friend. So, it would be stupid that you can't escape the feeling of loneliness, cannot escape the past.

The above sentence is suspicious, I must say. If you wanna show that Gojo's not going to be lonely with friends and students by his side, then this whole panel and confession of NOT being in love with either of Gojo or Geto are completely unneccessary if you really think about it. And if you want to show that you understand no one can replace a "bestfriend" for Gojo like Geto, then the word "love" is also not neccessary. Not to mention she uses 愛. Yuta uses that word for Rika in the battle. Yorozu said she will give Sukuna this bc she truly loves him.

So why does Shoko use such a term in the negative tone? Why does she want Gojo to know that friendship can also erase loneliness, not just "love"? Isn't it because in Shoko's eyes, Gojo feels that he has lost his "love"? During that 3 years of youth, Gojo never felt lonely because Geto was by his side. So when Geto left, no other person could help Gojo escape that feeling of loneliness anymore. In other words, there's no reason to bring up the idea of love if it's not to underline that it is what Shoko sees in them. Hence the panel is from her POV: it is only Gojo and Geto in that panel, after all.

Shoko confirmed herself. That even though she was "still there", even though "a bunch of monsters" were there surrounding Gojo, he still can't let go of the past, he still thinks that he's "lonely" all this time. "What do you mean alone, you idiot. I was there too". Yes she was there too. Even though she was there. Gojo cannot escape loneliness because Geto has gone. That is the reason why Geto is, and still is Gojo's "bestfriend, the only one he has".

In conclusion (tl/dr):

1. Gojo has not moved on

2. Gojo's current dream/ideal (not letting anyone alone, not letting anyone take away the youth of the young children) is because he wants to make up for the past

3. Shoko knows she can't provide them what they yearn for to truly feel happy when they were together (愛/love), but her and the students can give him care and support and companionship, so he shouldn't said that he's lonely

4. Gojo with Geto by his side is a Gojo who is not lonely

I didn't expect to get more insight into Shoko's POV of the whole ordeal, but I'm glad we did. Shoko's denial of being in love with them isn't just there for no reason. There is no reason for her, of all people, to bring such a topic up under such circumstances: the children are going to fight to the death to save him and others. Shoko is also calling him out for thinking he's been alone, even though her and others are there for him. Which is... very sad to me. Geto is such a huge loss to Gojo, such an irreplacable existence, that when he's gone from this world, he made a huge void, and Gojo keeps gazing into that void, thinking he's lonely. He doesn't want anyone to be lonely like that, when Shoko calls his bullshit out because he has friends!!! He losed his love, and Shoko can't bring his love back, but she and the kids are there to support him in other ways too!!

I'm not saying this perspective is correct and canon, but it just makes so much sense that way for me. Gege has been playing the vague game about Gojo and Geto's relationship since v0, what with the mysterious last words, and now this mysterious love from Shoko's POV. I just love Satosugu and how Gege builds their relationship.

i think while loss is a very obvious theme in jjk i think a more accurate or completed representation of that theme is actually the burden of the living.

i just finished catching up on it (jjk 212 thanks for absolutely gutting me) and seeing megumi and tsumiki sort of clued me into what i think is really being expressed in many of the characters relationship.

from the beginning of the story, we see characters lose people that are important to them. yuuji and his grandfather, maki and mai, gojo and getou, yuuta and rika, nanami and haibara. but the story itself doesn’t actual center on their deaths. at least not in the sense we experience their deaths from their eyes.

i think jujutsu kaisen is ultimately a story about the burden of the living more than it is the grief of death. and its a burden that continues to pass itself down to the next generation. its parasitic and cyclical and ultimately an inescapable truth. everyone you love will die. it is also a a direct parallel of the structure of the jujutsu societies hierarchy.

clan politics, corruption, greed and power — all of these things are akin to the lifecycle we see so often represented are things that have the same black and white stagnancy. just like people will continue to die and their loved ones will live on without them - the society that is being upheld by the currency of that grief will not change. jujutsu society is a snake eating its own tail, and the only way to change that structure is to shake the atmosphere.

the trapping of gojo satoru, the slaughter of maki zenin, the culling games, the resurrection of both naoya and toji. all of these things stand to accomplish the same thing — with each side aiming to change the same structure stuck forcefully in its way.

in all of these stories, it is the sancity of the dead that is tarnished to foster power. it seems to be the only to make waves large enough for things to be different. the side of evil often disobeys the rules of dying, with kenjaku and sukuna both function as revivals of an existence long gone.

the question about jjks ending is never really about who will die. that is inevitable as has been proven over and over. it is about who will bear the burden of the living?

and were they able to do it with honor? were they able to honor life and death? ultimately, isn’t that what yuuji has always set out to do?

this could pretty much be any character icl, but i feel like it's mainly yuuji?? just cos its still such a weirdly positive song for how dark the lyrics actually are. that said, it could also be gojo,, mainly just because i feel like he would be able to see the parallels between megumi, yuuji, and nobara compared to his own high school friend group, and he seems reminiscent like 89% of the time.

idk why but i just feel like megumi would listen to bad blood? and also cos of the semantics of the lyrics!! basically it's the breakdown of a relationship, and i think it could def be applied to him and his childhood. and it could also be applied to the whole thing he has with sukuna and everything that he's done while being possessed(?),, and the deterioration of his relationship with himself.

this song is sosososooo angsty like?? but yeah, it fits all three gojo and geto and shoko!! it probs most applies to gojo and his feelings/emotions towards geto after his departure and the mass murdering thing he did. def a song i would sob to icl

weight of living

this fits nanami and shoko scarily well, like you can't convince me otherwise. those two with their eyebags and stuff definitelyyyy have heavier emotional baggage than they let on about their friends and death and stuff. that's ignoring that they're canonically the heaviest drinkers or wtv!!!

oblivion

oblivion is heavily implied to follow the story of a couple (whether platonic or romantic) where one is thinking about the other and the loss of them. it's vvv emotional and probs something that gojo would never listen to unless he was alone and properly in a sad mood, but it fits them scarily well imo.

get home

it fits nanami weirdly well? along with gojo (but, at this point, pretty much every song fits him lol), megumi, and yuuta i think? megumi mainly because of his lack of current ambition to continue living, and all that he's been through recently. and then yuuta fits this song in the period around rika dying?

poet

I LOVE THIS SONG SM okay, so i think it fits yuuta!!! like the period of time just after jjk0 where he sees rika for the final time and accepts her death and all that came with it. but it's definitely a more positive song, and could also acknowledge his development as he gains friends and accepts his new version of life!

what would you do

the woman being described in this kind of reminds me of toji, but i don't know if thats me being delusional about him actually trying to be a good father. the speaker would probably represent gojo, but him as a teenager as it kind of seems like a more immature pov.

finally someone who actually understands inuokko and doesn't mischaracterize as an alpha sigma male and Toge as an uwu boy! bestie you don't know how happy I am that you came up on my fyp.

omg hi anon !! 🥺🫶

i love analyzing characters way before any shipping, i could actually read nothing but found family fics because i just feel like they always catch the perfect dynamic. with yuuta and toge specifically, i do feel like you can appreciate aspects of how their dynamic is on an appearance level or how they fit certain popular tropes, but i don’t think it’s the driving force behind what makes them so good together.

i do acknowledge that if we default to the stereotypical gay men tropes without tangible reason, it’s more indicative of getting used to knowing how to write LGBT+ relationships and tending to default to what we might be used to in straight relationships. i say that without any offense intended, it’s just a part of the writing process. especially with toge as a character, who has so much of his characterization sprinkled outside of the manga and anime. a lot of his backstory and characteristics are derived from the fun facts, light novel, and now even the unreleased game has given us so much more content. but i also think that’s why he’s so popular, there’s so much freedom in exploring him, especially if you haven’t discovered the existing content. taking that with yuuta who is honestly a fan favorite of the chad dude straight bros and gets a little too much ‘alpha male’ treatment from them, it can be a little confusing. (it kills me a little to see some one say he’s an alpha male with a bad attitude and smoking guns when manga panels will literally have him looking like this (・・?) 😭)

i do have preferences in how both yuuta and toge are portrayed, but that’s just because i care about them so much as individual characters.

for me, toge is soft and kind, but he was also born as a weapon and has spent his life sacrificing himself over and over. you can still have that softness and kindness, even more so when experiencing certain things, but there’s also a degree of hardening from trauma. i do characterize him to be less overtly an instigator lol, but that’s personal preference in how i see him combined with canon material. i find a lot of his trolling to be slipped in and more of a double take than full on gremlin, but that’s less mischaracterization and more preference. i find his relationship with living and death so, so interesting, especially in how he tries to shield the first-years and yuuta from having any kind of blood on their hands. it implicates him to have done that very thing, and he spends his life silencing himself because of it. i do believe his language barrier is almost a relief, because it acts almost as a self-imposed wall. but despite that wall, he still reaches out because while he himself is okay being alone, the thought of someone like yuuta, someone he sees as exactly like him, suffering by himself is painful to him.

for yuuta, i am a big advocate for the continued acknowledgment of his anxiety, depression, and low key craziness. he had a normal childhood, but that somehow makes the transition to everything with rika so much worse. because he had that normalcy and it was shattered completely. he’s hurt, maimed, and killed people both unintentionally and intentionally. but he sees it as necessary in protecting the people he cares about the most. in a lot of ways, i think his dubious morality and how far he’s willing to go is an expression of his love. for example, killing getou in his eyes is the ultimate act of service to gojo, so he himself would not have to kill him. his character is such a juxtaposition compared to everyone we’ve been introduced to. here you have these child soldiers, ready and willing to sacrifice themselves, where death and suffering is more feasible than ever living their life to entirely. then they give us yuuta, who wants to live so badly in happiness that he’s willing to inflict and do everything for and against their society. it’s almost an unhealthy relationship to a degree, but it’s the only kind of relationship any of them know how to have.

together they work so well, because like i’ve said before, they defy each other’s expectations in what they ever believed they could have or deserve. despite their rough edges, the blood on their hands, the years they’ve lost to fighting battles they never started, they treat each other so gently. as if they are the better half, yet simultaneously knowing exactly how much they have done. yuuta who sees violence almost as a love letter, who absorbs toge’s curse as if it’s something to admire and adore. toge who sees himself as unforgivable in his crimes, who self-enforces isolation and barriers yet took a step out just to comfort yuuta from a mild spell of anxiety, because he couldn’t stand to see him suffer even in a minor degree.

i have so many feelings about them so i’m so glad that they come across the way i want them to !! i love all content, and i’m always willing to share my thoughts, but ty so much for the validation bestie, i’m sure i’m eating up your content as well !! 🥺

What’s the point of having multiple characters with all different types of Cool CT if Yuuta can just use them all

Yuuta in this arc is so boring ( and I’m saying this as someone who actually likes Yuuta )

Hana is literally right THERE

Her and Yuuji both have a relationship with Megumi! They both want to save him more than anything they both could’ve been dead if it wasn’t for him! They both want to repay that “debt “

Yuuji and Angel both have a hatred for Sukuna both of them have a lot history with him

Yuuta has none of that!

If they’re that scared of Hana getting hurt even more because of her having one arm then why not just have Yuuta be somewhat of a bodyguard for her? Maybe he could just use Rika to protect her

That would be a little more interesting!

While we’re on this topic can we please see Maki and Yuuji fight Sukuna again

ooohh honestly i’d love to hear about anything you wanna talk about!! but hmm maybe like.. favorite scenes with yuuta and maki that you’ve written in the published chapters. also anything about themes.. hmm ways they compliment one another and stuff? anything really :)

hi!! first off sorry this took so long to answer @__@ as for my favorite scene with maki and yuuta, it'd have to be their first meeting -- that's actually in my top three personal favorite scenes (along with getou vs rika in 21 and nanami and gojo's talk in 13 where nanami realizes tsumiki and megumi are/were toji's kids)

maki and yuuta complement each other in many ways, but for this post i focused on their parallel dynamics with their respective fathers!

both maki and yuuta's opinions towards their fathers are heavily colored by their first interactions with them, and the fact that toji and getou were the first people to see maki and yuuta for who they truly are. toji was the first person to ever see value in maki, while yuuta's relationship with his birth family had rapidly deteriorated after rika's death to the point where he ran away to avoid burdening them, even if it meant his death -- he had no misconceptions about his inability to support himself on his own.

because of this, they both have a tendency to look past toji and getou's respective flaws. i think this is pretty clear in yuuta's case, so i won't go too much into it, while instances where maki does this have been subtle but significant. there was one in chapter 31 i'll discuss soon, but this passage from 26 is particularly illustrative:

A sharp inhale scrapes against the bad connection like a saw through driftwood. “If you’re so determined for me to understand your feelings, why won’t you try to understand mine?” Yuuta insists, and damn, he might actually have a point. “What would you do if you found out your Papa took so many lives, too?”

His question slams into Maki like a toppled skyscraper. “He would never!”

“I’m not asking if he would!” Yuuta shouts. “Just what you’d feel if it were true.”

Maki curls into her knees, gaze drifting to the empty space where the little grass doll she made of Toji once lived. ‘It’s because you’re my hero,’ she’d said, when she gave it to him years ago on Christmas, after describing how she and Yuuji played superhero games with their homemade toys. There’s...no way Toji would do something like that. This is just a thought experiment, right?

If Toji doesn’t remember anything from his past, Maki wonders, why is he so convinced he was a bad person?

Maki feels like a hypocrite, unsure whether or not she wants to know.

“I’d want to understand... why,” Maki answers. “I-If there was a good reason. If they...deserved...”

“See?” Yuuta murmurs. Chilly northern winds meet warm drafts from the south. “You do understand.”

i think it's pretty clear maki has a fairly strong inclination that there is something dark in toji's past. yet despite this, she instantly tries to tell herself it's not true -- that this is just a thought experiment, and even if it isn't, toji must have had a good reason for doing whatever nebulous dark thing he did, right?

obviously, yuuta calls her out on it. it's a similarity between them she deliberately would not have seen unless yuuta specifically spoke it aloud and forced her to confront their shared flaw. in fact, despite having this glaring commonality pointed out, she still refers to herself as "yuuta's opposite" in her head later on in the phone call.

however, she's a bit closer to accepting her conscious decision to ignore whatever lurks in tojis's backstory by 31. when toji asks her why she agreed to train with him despite clearly finding him suspicious and untrustworthy at first, she replies:

“For the first time, someone said I had potential,” she murmurs. “Someone actually wanted to spend time with me. Someone thought I was worth something.” She pulls the blanket to her shoulders. “Honestly...I didn’t even care why you were there. You believed in me. That was enough.”

it's easy to forget sometimes with how quickly trauma has matured them in some ways, but maki and yuuta are kids. as such, they are inherently going to exhibit bias towards people who show them love and treat them with kindness, especially when it's in such a stark contrast to their lives before toji and getou. i'll conclude with this line in 27 from yuuta's pov that i think sums up his sentiments, and a bit for maki as well:

It’s not that Yuuta doesn’t mind, or doesn’t care.

It just doesn’t make a difference.

their relationships with their respective parents as well as each other (and toji and getou's relationship, too) will continue to evolve throughout the story as they all grow, lessons are learned, and truths are accepted/revealed. i'm really excited to write more scenes between them, as their dynamic is one of my favorites in the fic!! thanks for asking this question and i hope you enjoy reading the reply :D

so yeah, thank you

F : Share a snippet from one of your favourite dialogue scenes you’ve written and explain why you’re proud of it.

there are. so many scenes i like in what i've dubbed my "tojiyuuta manifesto" (aka "If this unreliable self can become someone...", aka 28k words of an Edo AU i wrote so i'd have something to read when i have a craving for these two dysfunctional guys), which makes it hard to choose one

on the one hand that's a good thing, since i did write it with the intention of making the best text possible so i could trick people into caring about this relationship, but on the other it makes this question a hard one

so uh. here goes i guess :

Yuuta doesn’t need to add anything. He could let Toji-san call the doshin an incompetent bastard and move on. Let him think Yuuta’s night went by normally after that initial encounter.

Yuuta doesn’t need to say anything.

“He offered to let me stay in his room for the night, actually.”

The thing twisting and clawing inside of him, though, wants to. He doesn’t know why. Doesn’t understand.

There’s a bitter taste in Yuuta’s mouth, like sharp edges and mustard leaf.

“He what ?” Then, “please tell me you didn’t do that.”

Yuuta shrugs, falsely nonchalant.

“It sounded better than sleeping in the street. Quieter, too. He was only there for a few hours once his shift was over, so I got to sleep before that.”

Toji-san’s jaw clenches.

“And you just – Yuuta, you know samurai can’t be trusted !” There’s something tense in his voice, almost fearful. “What if he took advantage of,” Toji-san’s eyes widen for an instant, “did he try something ? Did he do something to you ? Is that why you didn’t want to talk before ?”

It should feel good, Toji-san’s worry, his anger at the thought of someone hurting Yuuta. Should feel warm. Should make Yuuta smile and reassure Toji-san and apologize for worrying him.

Instead, Yuuta just laughs, bitter and mean, sharp like Rika-chan’s claws and the sword Toji-san gave him.

Like the sword Toji-san taught him to use.

“Oh, please ! The last person who tried to do that without my consent was your cousin, and I’m sure you remember what Rika-chan did with him.” Blood and flesh and bones, not even human anymore, and Yuuta is so angry he doesn’t care. Maybe angry isn’t the right word. He doesn’t know. He feels like throwing up. “So really, I don’t know why you’re so worried.” Is that really his voice ? It doesn’t sound like him. “Or do you just think I can’t decide to spend the night with someone ? Because if so,” it feels like wood splinters are lodged inside his throat, painful and raw and Yuuta claws at his own neck, at the phantom sensation, as he spits them out, “then you’re a fucking hypocrite.”

He expects Toji-san to maybe be stunned, to give him the time to catch his breath before he answers Yuuta’s words. That’s not the case.

“You… why the fuck are you angry ? And wait, you’re pissed at me ? So you just, fucked a doshin !? Couldn’t you at least find someone less disgusting if you wanted to… what did you even want to do with that ? Make me jealous ? Is that it ? Because that’s fucking stupid ! And why are you even angry, it’s not like we’re-”

“I was scared !”

At this, Toji-san stops talking.

Yuuta’s eyes sting.

“You- Don’t-” He tries to breathe through the twisted knot in his throat. “I don’t care if you think I did something gross, I just. I was,” the feeling he was trying to keep at bay and hide all this time emerges from the torrent of words, like Yuuta’s very own ghost, “terrified. I thought maybe, maybe you would have so much fun, and I only ever cause trouble for you anyway, of course you wouldn’t want to come back. I don’t want to be alone, I didn’t, it didn’t matter who it was, I just… I thought if I could, I don’t know, do something normal people do ? Maybe I could live on my own, maybe, even if you get tired of me, I could still want to live.” Yuuta wipes a tear from his face, head low. “It didn’t work, by the way. It, Rika-chan was there the whole time and I thought she was going to kill him and I was. I was scared. I can’t go back to who I was before, I can’t…” His voice cracks. “I don’t want to be alone anymore.”

There’s relief, somehow, among the tears and the feelings he’s imposing on Toji-san. Relief at getting it out, at finally putting words on the anxiety that was eating at him ever since Toji-san left him yesterday. The lifting of a weight from Yuuta’s shoulders.

At the same time, there’s shame, crushing, pressing on him so hard he can’t even look up. Can’t look at Toji-san anymore.

How could he, when his true self is nothing more than a leech ? When he is burdening Toji-san with that knowledge ?

Yuuta stares at the ground. Flinches when he hears Toji-san’s voice once more.

“You… you’ve been feeling like that since we separated ?”

Yuuta nods.

“Why didn’t you tell me ?”

“I…” Yuuta’s voice sticks to the inside of his lungs. He takes a slow breath, tries to get the air out. “I couldn’t ? I mean, I just, I don’t want to make you feel bad, or,” breathe, just breathe, “or stop you from having fun. It’s your life, it’s, I don’t have the right to tell you what to do. And I already, I’m always trouble, with Rika-chan and how much you already do for me, it’s not, it’s not my place. It wouldn’t be fair of me, to ask you to stay. It wouldn’t be fair.”

Toji-san doesn’t say anything. Of course he doesn’t, what could he even answer to that ? It’s all true. Yuuta doesn’t have the right to stop him from living his life, from having his fun, even if it means Toji-san will realize how much he’s missing out on by staying with Yuuta.

Even if he decides to leave for good.

There’s a sigh, deep and so full of potential meaning it makes Yuuta shiver. He’s said too much, he’s made Toji-san feel bad, he –

Feels a hand on his head.

Toji-san pulls Yuuta against his chest awkwardly, his warm hand remaining on Yuuta’s head as if to protect him, like the hats the old man gifted to Ojizou-sama.

“I’m not going anywhere,” he says. “I need you. You know that, right ?”

Yuuta doesn’t. He shakes his head, pressed between Toji-san’s hand and the side of his breast, shoulder uncomfortably twisted to avoid stabbing Toji-san in the ribs.

“You’re the only one who sees any good in my worst part,” Toji-san says. Yuuta doesn’t know what he’s talking about. “Even Okiku, she just didn’t care about that. She couldn’t see, so it didn’t matter to her that I couldn’t either. But you… you said you’re glad.” His voice shakes a little. “You said you’re glad. So, it’s fine if you… if you can’t live on your own anymore. If you need me. ‘Cause I’m the same.”

Oh.

in the end i chose this one, from “I need you, you need me (Won’t you say you need me too ?”, the third part of this series. the reason i chose this excerpt is because it’s a culmination of the story so far, and an emotional tipping point in Yuuta and Toji’s relationship

we have Yuuta, who learned from Toji how to be more assertive, and turns this assertiveness into something hurtful the same way as Toji sometimes does. Yuuta, who learned Toji’s coping mechanisms too, and tried applying them with little success by sleeping with the doshin

(and little does he know, but Toji’s attempts at compensating for a lack of emotional intimacy with physical intimacy doesn’t work that well for him either)

we have Toji, who learned emotional honestly from Yuuta, and used his big boy words for the first time to actually express himself

this theme of learning from one another, as equals, is one i explored in depth in the second part of this series, and although it was more focused on practical skills like swordfighting or laundry, the emotional through-line was still there - with Yuuta choosing to be stronger from the push Toji gives him, and with Toji showing kindness and care by applying the healing skills Yuuta taught him

so that’s one thing. and of course, with Toji admitting that he needs Yuuta just as much as Yuuta needs him, we have the official start of the codependent relationship i wanted to depict in this story. they’re both fucked up, but they’re happy together (i think), no matter what “together” looks like to them, so uh. good for them i guess

and, you know, it’s just a very emotional scene in general. i’m really proud of how it all came out (❁´◡`❁)

G : Do you write your story from start to finish, or do you write the scenes out of order ?

i tend to write everything start-to-finish, honestly

the only exception i can think of was in "I need you, you need me (Won't you say you need me too ?)" where i needed to like, ride the wave of inspiration the second it came in order to write the scene where the doshin and Yuuta start getting it on

(not that i actually wrote the “getting it on” part, mind)

but even that comes with the caveat that 1) i had the whole story mapped out by that point already and 2) i have never really written anything sensual like that before, so i really needed to take the words when they came to mind

so yeah

M : Got any premises on the back burner that you’d care to share ?

hmmmm sure i've got a few ideas and wips, i'm just not sure which ones i should share, since i'm notoriously awful at finishing things. ah, well, whatever. here's a few projects in various states of advancement, from various fandoms

"Quando corpus morietur"

a JJBA AU leaning into traditional vampire mythology to kind of rewrite Phantom Blood. Dio dies in a tragic accident, and then cattle start dying, Lord Joestar falls ill, and Jonathan is haunted by nightmares and horrible feelings of guilt. the local pastor finds a friend in a man who should be dead

the whole thing is planned, and the first three chapters, the ones that kind of set the scene, are already written. i just uh, y'know. i just gotta. yeah

unnamed winter horror project

this one on the other hand is still in the planning stages. i have the introductory arc down, and i know the rough events that i want to make happen, but it will take some time before i feel comfortable writing it

anyway, it's a JJK canon compliant fic (with the exception that i keep on forgetting that Yuuta comes from Sendai, so the whole thing takes place in Aomori) exploring Yuuta's state of mind after Rika's passing at the end of vol. 0, the way he worked on regaining his Special Grade status, and the horror that comes with finding out terrible things about a person who is already dead

there are mountains, and snow, and a yuki onna. there's the dead body of Rika's dad, lost in the snow. and there's the realization that a child shouldn't say her happiest years were the ones when she was dead, and there's nothing anyone can do to help her anymore

"Short circuits"

a Pokemon canon compliant... fic ? fics ? series ? anway, a young Volkner takes over the Sunyshore gym, and the engineering team in charge of helping him redesign all decide they hate his guts, so they throw the worst team player they have at him to make an early project, in the hopes that he quits. it's Cyrus, before he went full nihilist

in parallel to that, the Volkner from the games' present is fucking miserable, and we see him descend into the depressed state he's reached by the time the player character arrives. and also the world almost ends

it's all planned, the first chapter is done. just gotta write the rest

the one i'll write after Viper-lizard is done

AtlA canon divergence. Zuko isn't around for some reason, Katara doesn't get to learn how to fight at the Northern Water Tribe, Yue is a waterbender, and Azula isn't doing great. there's going to be focus on healing and medicine, the internal politics of the Fire Nation royal family, and i'm hoping to be able to fit some yuezula in there too because i just think they're neat :)

a lot of it is planned, in what might be too much detail, until pretty far into the story. i know the endgoal, more or less, so i can also keep on working towards that

i'm just going to wait until i'm done with "A viper-lizard's tales" before i start this one, since it's going to be at least as big a project, and one 150k+ fic at a time is more than enough i'd say

tojiokko kinky adventures

so the thing is that i've never been able to write smut, because the logistics just baffle me and i don't know how to make everything make sense

which means, of course, that last week my brain provided me with detailed ideas for 5 pwp one shots, and i've started writing one of them. it's... going alright ? for now ? so who knows, maybe i'll actually manage to finish that, somehow

Let us pretend that Rika Chan didn't exist here. But if I ever fall in love again, it better be the real version of Yuuta istfg. The way he loves her, no matter how she turned out, is just something I crave for. I just love that relationship of theirs with my whole heart. Now I'll start.

Y/N'S POV

"What's up guys??" I asked them, waving my hand as I approached them, my hands buried in the pocket of my hoodie. We were done with our dinner and everyone was chilling together in our everyday hangout place, except me. I was kinda nervous as he had come back to Japan now. He was with them. Yuuta. Okkotsu Yuuta. I had feelings for him since we first met but I actually never talked to him myself. Him being the sweetheart he is, always talked to me, making me fall deeper and harder for him. "We were waiting for you to join us so that we can decide what to do now." Maki said, putting her arm over my shoulder as I took a seat beside her. "Heyy" Someone whispered to me. I turned my head to the direction from where the voice came. I knew it was him. I turned to my left and saw him looking at me with a cute smile. I turned to him and waved my hand in such a way that no one else except Yuuta can see it. "It's been a while. How are you doing??" He asked me.

"It sure has been a long time. I'm absolutely fine. What about you??" I asked him as I sat beside him, Maki's arm falling off my shoulder. She knew about this so she wouldn't mind and I knew that. "I'm good too." He said with a smile. Now the awkward silence fell between us. Like always. I was fidgeting with my fingers, nervous because I was with him. Even though our friends were with us, it felt as if we two were in a different place, just the 2 of us. But it was a nice feeling. All alone with someone you like. "GUYS I GOT AN IDEA!!!" Nobara suddenly yelled, clapping her hands together and jumping.

YUUTA'S POV

Oh my god she's pretty as always. I thought as she joined us. After chit chatting for a bit, awkward silence took over. But the moment still felt magical as we were really sitting close. "GUYS I GOT AN IDEA!!!" Nobara suddenly yelled, clapping her hands together and jumping.

"Like what??" Megumi and Maki asked her. "Let's play 7 minutes in heaven." She said with a sly smirk on her face. "No why would we play that??" Megumi said. "What's 7 min in heaven?? We can see heaven for 7 mins??" Yuuji asked, his eyes shining out of enthusiasm and curiosity. "I'm in." Maki said. "Okaka.(yes.)" Toge agreed.

"Okay so Maki san, Fushiguro, Itadori, Yuuta San, Y/N San and me. Panda senpai is snoring and he can't play anyways. So let's do it!!" She sounded pretty excited. "BUT I DON'T KNOW WHAT TO DO!!!" Itadori whined. "Dumbass come here." Y/N whispered the explanation in his ears. He was already blushing. I giggled at him as Maki and Nobara settled the room. Megumi helped them even if he didn't want to. My heart was beating fast. What if it lands on me and Y/N?? What if we're in the room alone?? Many thoughts going through my mind. I didn't even see Y/N leaving to help them. "You'll be absolutely fine. Just tell her." Maki said, giving my shoulder a light squeeze and a smile, accompanied by Toge nodding as a sign of "Yes you'll be fine." "But what if she doesn't feel the same way and distances herself from me?? We're already too distant." I mumbled looking down at the ground, the background sound of Yuuji and Nobara fighting about something. "Just give it a try." Maki said. I nodded as she sat beside me, us having a bestie gossip talk after so long.

MAKI'S POV

"Only if I could tell them that they're in love with each other." I thought and let out a sigh. We spent some time having a shit talk gossip session as we had many things to talk about since 8 months

Y/N'S POV

"And done!!!" Nobara said as she kept her palms on either side of her waist. "GUYS GET DOWN WE'RE DONE!!!" She informed everyone to take their seats on the ground as it'd be easy to spin the bottle. "MY TURN FIRST!!!" Yuuji yelled and spun the bottle. It landed on *random member* . I was the third one to spin. 'Please don't land on yuuta…..' I thought to myself. I spun the bottle and joined my hands together nervously. GAWD DAYUM IT LANDED ON MEGUMI ARGHH!! I decided not to show any kind of sorrow on my face and we went inside the room. We were very close, he always thought of me as Tsumiki. We just had a normal and very light hearted talk for those 7 minutes and got out. After 2 more rounds, it was Yuuta's turn to spin the bottle. I was very excited and nervous. I desperately wanted it to land on me and at the same time I didn't want it to land on me. He looked at everyone and then spun the bottle.

YUUTA'S POV

I looked at everyone, took a deep breath and spun the bottle. I quickly closed my eyes, not to see who the bottle landed on. I opened my eyes as Nobara shook me and the bottle landed on…..Y/N. Y/N??? REALLY??? I freaked out inside and my heart was screaming inside.

I was happy, nervous and anxious. I looked at her, she was already looking at me. I got up as she nodded, signalling me to get up. "Oooohhhhhh~" Nobara and Maki cooed, teasing us. I blushed and got flustered and surprisingly, even Y/N was blushing. I got up and opened the door for her and got in after her. "Kiss her okay??" Maki said and winked at me as I closed the door behind me. Oh my God I can hear my heartbeats. We both were standing, awkwardly staring at the front wall. Y/N tried to take a step forward but tripped on AIR and fell down with a loud thud. I couldn't help but chuckle. "STOP LAUGHING AND HELP ME UP!!" She yelled grumpily and I helped her up. "Sorry I just tripped on something I guess." She said looking somewhere else as we were holding hands. "You have nothing to be sorry for." I said, trying my best to let out a genuine smile. It was coming out really weird as I was very nervous but I gripped her hand tighter. "Oh your hair is-" I said as I observed the loose strand of her hair which was about to fall on her face. I put it behind her ear and said, "Perfect. In every way. You're just so perfect." I leaned closer and bent down. I looked at her lips and then at her to ask her if she was okay with what I was about to do. She nodded and I kissed her lips.

I cupped her cheeks as she put her hands on my chest. I pulled away and smiled at her. "I love you so much." She said, looking down on the floor. I hugged her and placed my index finger under her chin and lifted it up so she looked me in the eye. I planted a soft kiss on her lips and said, "I love you too Y/N. I really do." And hugged her. Unfortunately,7 minutes ended at this. I opened the door and let her get out first. Everyone was looking at us with a smirk on their faces. "So you're together right?? Right Mrs. Okkotsu??" Maki said as she elbowed Y/N.

Y/N'S POV

Iblushed and hid my face quickly. "SHUT UP!!!" I yelled as I was getting flustered. Yuuta held my hand and gave it a comforting squeeze and let out a cute giggle. I removed my hands from my face and nodded at her. Everyone was so happy that I felt like we played this game just because they wanted us to get together. "CONGRATULATIONS Y/N SAN AND YUUTA SAN!!!" Yuuji exclaimed as he was already overflowing with happiness. "Congratulations Y/N San and Yuuta San." Megumi gave us a small and simple smile. "CONGRATULATIONS BESTIES~~~" Maki cooed with a sly smirk as she pulled Nobara close. "We should let the lovebirds be alone now." Nobara said, winking at me. I chuckled at them and looked at Yuuta, who was already looking at me. More like the stare of love and affection. He really loved me so much already. I looked at him with the same love and affection in my eyes, showing the fondness of love. "Ahem ahem I guess we should let them be alone." Maki said and dragged everyone out of there. Now it was only us. "Let's go to my garden. We can lay on the grass and cuddle comfortably there." I dragged him to my garden. We changed into some comfy clothing right before our game sessions so we just directly got in bed. He laid beside me and spooned me. "Wait up." He said and got up and searched for something in his pocket. "Got it." He said as he held my headphones. He put one earbud in my right ear and one in his left ear and connected it to his phone. "You're a fan of Ariana Grande right??" He asked, more like told me. He played the song Moonlight by Ariana Grande, which was my favourite romantic song. He kept the phone aside and pulled me closer as he placed a kiss on the back of my head. The game was worth playing. I was so happy he was mine now. "You're my favourite addiction." I said, turning to face him and kissed him on the nose. "And you're my favourite person." He chuckled and gave a peck on my nose, which caused me to squeak. (Yes. You ahem.) "Cute~" he said as he pulled me closer and we fell asleep on the ground, a cold breeze running and the sound of crickets surrounding us. Peace with Love.

2. Favorite canon thing about this character?

Ace: His relationship with Luffy. Finding worth and his identity through the way Luffy assured him over and over and over again that he loves him unconditionally. Siblings of all time they make me ill.

Yuuta: Hmm his character journey in JJK 0 is really satisfying, where the connections he makes at the school helps him to come out of his shell and to properly acknowledge and settle his relationship with Rika after so many years. He's an incredibly strong protagonist in 0 imo.

3. Least favorite canon thing about this character?

Ace: Uhhh I wish for more content with him he's very cool :(

Yuuta: Hmm I've had some issues with Mr. Okkotsu in the past...still mourning my wife everyday bc of this man :( It's not that though lmao uhhh I'm not a huge fan of the copy ct. Maybe the biggest retcon in JJK and I don't think it's the most interesting for me personally </3

12. What's a headcanon you have for this character?

25. What was your first impression of this character? How about now?

Ace: Mysterious boy hidden in the shadows, looking for Luffy? And he shows up and serves but also he's a lil polite goofball? Very endearing. Marineford arc and seeing how much everyone loves Ace despite the mess that was made and how much he loves them back is very heartwarming, he deserves the world fr. My irl friend is the true Ace fan though I feel like I'm not doing him true justice lmao but he is a character I like a lot.

Yuuta: First impression was he was a lil sad boy with some Issues. I actually saw the movie before reading jjk 0 so I was opposed to this man as the mc because I'm such a Yuuji fan but he did win my heart I can't lie. Rika and him have a very beautiful relationship and journey together and I think the core of that relationship really represents the themes around death and grief and purpose in JJK very very well. I haven't been the biggest fan of his role in the main story (mainly Shinjuku Showdown, I think I do like him well enough during Culling Games though not as much as 0) so we've had our ups we've had our downs but despite the downs I think his showing in 0 is so strong that I can never truly dislike him yk.

favorite thing about them:

ive said it before. ill say it again. if you give me a plot about a character learning that they deserve to live im gonna love it. please and thank you. and with yuuta it goes SO FUCKING HARD...honestly also his continued devotion to rika is genuinely like really fun, he loves his monster wife as he fucking should

i also think that his cursed technique is really really cool and kinda wish we could see more of it!!! OH ALSO I FORGOR THAT WE SAW HIS DOMAIN EXPANSION RECENTLY ACTUALLY THAT DID GO REALLY HARD

i havent been keeping up super actively with jjk but i think this is understandable

only other thing that comes to mind is yuuta and megumi but again thats very much a person opinion and i can see the appeal but its just not for me 👍

random headcanon:

yuuta was is not a morning person for most of his life and almost became one by necessity what with everything at tokyo jujutsu high, but did genuinely grow over time to enjoy waking up early because he likes the quiet he gets in the morning when no one else is awake and moving around

genuinely dont think i can do this one this time around because i dont know what the popular opinions on yuuta are anymore LMAO

ok it's not like you're some v possessive bitch who thinks rika, who has already passed away, can still steal yuuta from you. u know v well that yuuta has moved on already.

it's just that the bond they shared over the couple of years, before the curse has been broken, is different. it's definitely not your typical childhood friends kinda trope.

the circumstances here r totally different !! if it was just a normal childhood friends trope, it would've been a bit easier to weave though. BUT yeah, after what happened and all, ofc it's impossible for him to just suddenly erase rika in his brain. it's not like u’re forcing him to do that, u don’t even bring the topic up but yeah

he just simply reassures u that he is over rika and that's that.

he tells u that even if rika was still alive, and then he met you, he would choose you, and that he was sure of it.

u wanted to tell him that it was unnecessary for him to tell u that but if u were being honest, that really did cross ur mind. u thought that if rika was still alive, maybe ur relationship with yuuta would turn out differently.

u didn't really feel v bothered by the thought bcs it was pointless to think abt that now, but still, the thought still came to your mind and yuuta just made sure that u know he loves u so much.

ANYWAY ur relationship is very healthy!!!! the two of u have a rule to always communicate if something's bothering the other.

“okkotsu!” you cried out, feminine and shrill voice ringing in the air. the cicadas chirped melodiously, calling out their delightful songs in the spring air.

the young boy staggered around, losing his balance from spinning too fast. his fragile hands reached out, pulling in small grabby motions towards your innocent and joyous face.

you were always so optimistic, even when you were younger. yuuta could only huff and wail as his caretaker hauled him away from the playground, gesturing it was time for him to come home. thick and messy tears spilled out the corners of his eyes which hadn’t yet endured countless sleep devoid nights.

he was so far away, but that was okay because you knew you’d see him the very next day.

“okkotsu! promise to play with me again tomorrow!” you cupped your hands, exclaiming as much as your little lungs could endure. yuuta could see the tears heavy in your gaze, but even then, you prevailed. you grinned, all for him.

ever since the very start. till ‘death do us apart.

“okkotsu! come oooon, don’t cry, okay? (y/n)’s got your back! see, see?! look! they don’t bite!” you braved a smirk on your features, beckoning the shy and introverted young man over. his face looked uncertain and his lips wobbled as though he could crack at any moment. he took a few cautious steps, maintaining his distance between you and the furry animal on the floor.

“r-really? it won’t bite?” he coughed, reaching his unstable fingertips out.

“eh?! that’s the first time you’ve spoken to me! your voice is so nice! it’s so cool! hey! can i hear it again? pleaaaase? i know you’re shy but i’d really like to hear it! hey, okkotsu, say my name? pretty please?”

“um- i, uh.. it’s okay.. you can call me yuuta.”

“yuuta! you’re going to be late for your first day of junior high! i totally told you to wake up on time too!” you stood with your hands rested firmly on your hips, face stern and tone impatient.

“sorry! sorry- it’s um, my hair. i don’t know how to style it.” he admitted, albeit sheepishly by trailing the last few words off into a murmur. you only gave him a sigh before kneeling down behind him, propping yourself up to take a look at his hair in the reflection of the mirror.

“how on earth are you so tall already? we eat the same food, you know. slouch over a little.” you pinched his cheeks before glossing over his hair.

when you ran your fingertips through his hair, you felt butterflies and anxiety rock your stomach.

that’s never been there before.

you’ve touched yuuta countless times, whether that was accidentally hitting him, holding his hand to cross the street…

so why was it different?

you could feel yuuta’s body tense up and run rigid underneath your touch.

that definitely wasn’t there before.

“relax. it’s me.” you cooed quietly, roughing up his hair into different styles.

“like this? looks like you just woke up, sorta, but i think it’s cute.”

yuuta’s heart rate skyrocketed through the roof and his breath hitched.

“cute?” he reiterated, chewing out the phrase like he’d never heard it before in his life.

“hm? yeah-“

you caught his gaze in the mirror, eyes half lidded and attention averted. the tips of his ears were tainted a deep red with small flicks of blush painting his cheeks.

“eh?! nononono- not like that i’m- i just think it suits you, you know? oh, crap, would you look at the time? okay we gotta go and leave!” you clambered out of his bedroom, thudding the door shut behind you.

yuuta only gawked at you with bewilderment, lips slightly parted and fingertips outstretched in his failed attempt to stop you.

he turned to himself in the mirror, studying his features before running one hand through his jet black locks.

“cute, huh?” he muttered, avoiding his own judgemental gaze.

the bittersweet part about growing up with a childhood friend is change.

for all the time that you’d spent with yuuta, you didn’t realise that your relationship with him was something to not take for granted.

especially with those around you who would kill for what you two have.

you’d always get mundane questions from high school girls who thought they could have a shot with him, “what’s his type?” “do you think he likes me?”

meanwhile you only played along with their charades, laughing inwardly when he was actually extremely introverted.

“so? what’s the deal with you and okkotsu-san? you guys dating?”

“no. we’re just friends.”

“seriously? you guys are always glued at the hip. you know he has a picture of you in his locker, right?”

“yeah? so do i. it doesn’t mean anything.”

“it’s kind of a shame, he’s such a nice young man.. gone to waste like that..”

“what’s gone to waste?” yuuta inquired with an indifferent tone, plopping down beside you with his bento box. the classmate sat opposite you only gave him a phony cheerful temperament, twirling her index finger around her hair.

“oh! okkotsu-senpai! we were just talking about you! how was your da-“

“please leave.”

you could only gape at him in your peripherals, sputtering on your sandwich as you watched the life drain from your classmate at his monotony. yuuta didn’t spare you or the girl a glance as he worked to unpack his lunch, hell the guy even murmured a small itadakimasu as if nothing happened.

“wh- okkotsu senpai?”

“listen.” he let out a deep sigh before proceeding.

“whatever shot you thought you had with me? it’s gone out the window. don’t disrespect (y/n) in front of me like that again.”

“you’re making us uncomfortable, so get up and go.” he motioned with his chopsticks, giving her a dead gaze towards another table.

the girl scoffed, mouth hung wide open as she picked up her bag and stormed out of sight.

whilst your face was as blank as a stone, internally, you were only screaming in the depths of piping hot hell visible from the sun itself.

baby girl? that was when you noticed how fucking fine of a man yuuta grew up to be.

“that was seriously nerve wracking.. my stomach hurts so bad right now” yuuta coughed through a bite of his sandwich, refusing to meet your gaze.

you slapped his back, because, holy shit??? awe painted your face like you just witnessed your own child talking or walking for the first time.

“what the shit? yuuta? are you kidding?”

“oh, huh? did i overdo it or something?“

“no?! are you kidding? that was fucking awesome! i swear! this is why i love you-“

yuuta let out a shrill squeak unbeknownst to any human being able to produce such a volume. it was a cross between a floorboard creaking, a mouse sniffing and him choking on his food. the poor boy had to excuse himself to the bathroom, hacking and sniffling in an ugly fit of coughs from the food that got caught in his windpipe.

your blood rushed to your head, veins lit ablaze, bones rattling as you could hear the chatter pound and drill into your skull, scoring you deep and down into your bones.

“did she just say she loves him?”

“i totally knew they were going out!”

“i can’t believe it…”

“do you think he’ll reject her?”

it replayed over, and over, and over. what a fucking fool you felt. did he even feel the same?

a blob of black clouded your vision and you could hear the glass breaking.

yuuta sat himself back down, excusing himself.

you could hear nothing but the tune of his heartbeat. or was it yours? it sounded too heavy to belong in either of your bodies.

his voice came as a wobble because of his anxiety, but this was the one thing in his life he’d be absolutely certain of.

“that’s okay. i love you too.”

“yuuta? you okay? you’ve been spacing out for at least five minutes. something on your mind?” you lightly shake your boyfriend, grip reassuring but firm. it takes a couple of seconds for his gaze to gloss over as he returns back to reality.

“sorry. was just thinking about our childhood, that’s all.” his voice comes out deep and masculine. it doesn’t have that tremor as it used to before, like he’d break down at any minute.

you can say with absolute certainty as you stare up your entire 5’10 boyfriend that he’s matured well.

his hand snakes around to your waist, pulling you into him for comfort.

some ways better than others, you suppose.

“can we stay home today?” he hums, resting his chin on top of your head,

“same as ever, yuuta, aren’t you? it’s fine, i’ll tell nobara my period’s making me act up. she’ll understand-“

“hm? you’re not due for another week though, right?”

you crease your eyebrows as you type out an apology to nobara for cancelling plans, glancing up at yuuta curiously.

“how the heck do you know that?”

“i’m not supposed to? i’d always count your cycle so i wouldn’t irritate you on the wrong day. besides, don’t you think it was too convenient for you to always find snacks in your locker when it rolled around?”

“those snacks were you?! oh my god! i was trying to figure that out for forever!”

“i know. i remember you ranting to me about it.”

“you just sat there?! yuuta! you’re so cheeky sometimes, i swear!”

“only for you.” he chimes, peppering a soft kiss onto your head. you smile against him, though unfortunately pry out of his familiar and welcoming touch.

“i’m gonna step out for a second tho, ‘kay? i think that’s itadori at the door with my chocolate and painkillers” you snort, giving yuuta a bold wink as you put on your best act, keeling over and clutching at your abdomen as though you’re on death’s door.

“you’re awful.” yuuta chuckles, slumping down onto the sofa to hear the events unfold right in front of him.

you clear your throat and slouch your shoulders as you pry the apartment door open.

“(y/n)-senpai! i came as fast as i could and i brought you some of your favourite sna- oh, okkotsu-senpai! hello!”

“hi there.” he leans his head back, giving itadori a small wave.

“i won’t interrupt you guys so get well soon! and fast! cause i wanna hang out with you! bye!”

you cradle the necessities itadori brought whilst gleaming at yuuta with a wicked grin plastered on your face from ear to ear.

“you want anything?” you cock an eyebrow, showing him the arrangement of snacks.

it’s not the answer you were expecting, but it definitely wasn’t unwelcome. it made you feel warm inside, like eating warm and soothing soup on a cold winter’s day. this, for you, was okkotsu yuuta at his best, stripped clean and vulnerable.

you’re the only one who he can relax around, act like the world is carefree. like he’s young again, prancing around in that dingy colourful playground he met you at.

“i want you to kiss me.”

hii can u post a review of the new jjk movie when u watch it? i watched it and ITS SO GOOD i wanna see what u think abt it:)))

jjk 0 spoilers (obvi)

buckle up bc once i start talking, i don’t stop

the opening sequence felt cinematic. and i love how they used music to structure it like an anime op. god i love it here.

i ADOREDDDDD how we got to see yuuta function as the mc to his own story versus just adding him to yuuji’s story, because it helps establish the world of jjk and how it’s existed before yuuji was apart of the bigger picture. fantastic world building. i’m so jealous of akutami and isayama as writers ☹️

jjk 0 also made me realize the difference between a backstory and an origin story. like i’d say yuuta’s backstory was rika, but his origin story elaborates on to the final parts of the movie—when he fights getou and sets rika free after actualizing his goals as a character. and the goal-identifying part is what’s significant for establishing an origin story.

s’like in the mcu, how spider-man has three movies and they all work to establish his origin story? yuuta’s backstory had multiple components to it; the movie didn’t just show us his tragic past, but it also showed us how he comes to be yuuta okkotsu, the legend.

also!! i really liked the scene when maki is pressuring yuuta into identifying what his goals are as a character. there’s something addictive ab the line “i want to make sure no one else gets hurt” (or a variant of that, i can’t remember the whole line, but it occurs after he and maki get trapped in the curse belly.)

that dialogue tag, specifically, really set the movie on fire and added so much to yuuta’s character—yuuta isn’t just a sorcerer because of rika, or because of some blood debt he feels he owes her. he isn’t just a sorcerer because he has this melancholic view of the world and wants to use jujutsu to brood over it. he’s a sorcerer because he wants to protect everyone else from experiencing that kind of pain ever again. his learned optimism is his greatest strength i love him :(

i also LOVE that we got that little flash forward to the present <333 i need to know what he’s been up to, and what he has to do w the narrative now. i saw that one manga panel of yuuta dragging yuuji out of ?? SOMEHWERE by his scruff and i’ve had an eye on yuuta since. so it’s nice to have a personality for a face i’ve been seeing for a year now 😭

speaking of character depth, it was wonderful to see getou’s actual personality LOL?? i feel like s1 gave us absolutely nothing so knowing getou’s motivations as the villain helps me understand s1 better.

THAT being said, gojo’s relationship with getou will forever stay with me. even after all this time, gojo STILL TRUSTS HIM?? “he was my best friend! the only one i ever had.” my fucking stomach hurts. and the way gojo sounded so happy to call getou his best friend?? i know he might be keeping up appearances but there was sumn genuine in that fr. sumn wistful.

ALSO WHAT DID GOJO SAY?? WHEN HE SQUATTED DOWN TO TALK TO GETOU WHEN BRO WAS BEAT UP IN THE ALLEY WAY???

the fight scenes were fucking spectacular. maki and yuuta’s sparring session was so clean. also—they hyped maki up so MUCH in this movie!!!! i just fucking adore how everyone looks up to her 😭 she’s so influential and she doesn’t even know it. been that bitch, still that bitch LOLLL

inumaki’s look in this movie is the superior look. panda was goofy as always <333

RIKAAA MY BELOVED!!!! she was the star of the show. when yuuta let her out and she tore that fucking curse apart ???? THE RAINING BLOOD??? i forget how easily jjk switches between child-friendly and… not. the gruesome scenes never disappointed, too.

anyways, back to rika—there was this one part where the screen goes black and then all you hear is rika’s, “it’s a promise!” i don’t know what facet of story telling / movie making that is, but the visual and auditory structuring of her narrative was fucking insane. I GOT CHILLS.

and she, herself, was amazing. i cherished every bit of screen time she had. her and yuuta’s relationship was very sweet. childhood-friends-gone-wrong is always a beautiful trope to display the corrruption of innocence.

i do have to say that rika’s face didn’t look babyish to me??? like it felt like they drew a grown woman’s face into a little girl’s body and that was so uncomfortable 😭😭 they might have done that to prep us for when she’s finally set free at the end of the movie, and looks to be older than she was when she died. but maybe i’m just tripping.

the yuuta obsession was also very much felt 😭 one thing ab rika? she gon go to war for hers! i did get so sad though, when yuuta snapped at her to put maki down and she was begging him not to hate her. i’m glad she’s set free from that bc it seemed like such a burden to be tied to someone so feverishly. exhausting for the spirit.

is there anything i missed 😭

NANAMI OMG. i moaned when he came on screen i’m not sorry ab it either. and that one scene w gojo switching from his glasses to his bandages. the kitty was purring.

lastly, my favorite scene is definitely getou calling yuuta a womanizer LMAOOO getou said verbatim what i was thinking, but it’s ok bc like yuuta said—“it’s true love!” he’s so annoying omg. i miss him i need to go see the movie again.
