I'll never understand why neurotypicals are so hell-bent on forcing recovery onto disordered people. You tell someone you have a disorder and the first thing that comes out of their mouth is "okay, so how can I fix you?". It's disgusting and infantilizing, they make it very clear they don't view you as a person but purely as a problem to fix. To them, we are just a project for them to work on, a game for them to play out their saviour complex so they can feel good about themselves for helping someone they see as less than them.

What makes it even worse is when you tell the person you have a disorder that is incurable and permanent, a lifelong disorder that can't be fixed. They immediately become defensive and accuse you of playing the victim card, tell you that you don't want help you just want to be sick, or insinuate you're faking it, along with telling you that it can be cured when it isn't true because they can't cope with a problem they can't fix. They take it as a personal offense that you won't let them control you like you're their child and force you to heal as immediately as you tell them you are sick.

I like people the same way I like art pieces, without touching, and without contact. I like thinking about them and the way they behave, but not enough to get close. Having a relationship sorely based on respect and interactions is enough for me to consider someone a friend. I like my friends, the people I get along with are just fine since they don't expect anything from me.

I love seeing your shiny life through pictures, but I don't want to be part of it. I love you in my own way, but please don't perceive me or worry about me. I'm just an observer.

you have to bite through the fear of being misunderstood again, of being dismissed or shunned. they'll make assumptions, but you're not doing it for them. you don't have to fit yourself into a mold that's more to their liking. you dont have to translate yourself into their language. this is not something that can be done on their terms. for once, it's not about them. it's about you.

you're doing it for you. to keep your own damn head above water. this is your life. these are your words. uncertain as they may be in the beginning, jumbled and vague, barely distinguisable. thats okay.
