Active Recall vs. Passive Recall Part 1/2 (knowing what they mean)

You night already have guessed it from the name title, but this is what I am going to be talking about today. As most of you know, active recall is a better studying method. Let me tells what they mean first. I know you have I’ll be only saying the main points. Short and simple. Right? Nope, this takes a ton of time because you have to get used to it and not use the easier way out.

Active Recall

Definition from Wikipedia:  Active recall is a principle of efficient learning, which claims the need to actively stimulate memory during the learning process.

So from what we got there, it’s just saying it is a very efficient way of learning and what it does is basically actively stimulate your memory whether you are learning or just reviewing. So examples are making flashcards, summary sheets (I’ll talk more about that in a later post), SQ3R method, spaced repetition, spider diagrams, etc.

Passive Recall

Passive recall on the other hand is basically learning the information over and over again, without fully retaining the information. Some examples are looking over your notes over and over again.
