It is finally warm enough to go on prolonged walks and Will is using the sunny spring day as an opportunity to stretch his feet. At least it was the plan as mentioned in an owl Will sent to Andrew this morning. He did not expect to be surrounded by a small group of older students who Will did not recognize. Perhaps they are from some other school or have already finished Hogwarts?
William does not particularly care who they are as the intricacies of his status and prefect position would most likely be lost on them. But he keeps up the conversation until he spots Ravenclaw robes somewhere behind his new acquaintances.
"Oh, hi, love!" Will calls out cheerfully. The boys surrounding him glare at Montrose and say nothing, most putting their hands in the pockets of their robes. Apart from one guy squeezing Will's shoulder tightly. Oh, Will does not like that but not the first tense situation he has to wiggle out of.
"I was just giving those gentleman directions! What a coincidence, they are going to the same place I am! Want to join us?"
If Will is doing strange gestures with his hand, visible to Andrew, while his face shows none of the same nervousness.
Montrose’s eyes are immediately narrowed in on the group when he spots William, beautiful weather forgotten.
His smile is a forced one at Will’s cheerfulness, his movements clipped as he approaches. He tries to force relaxation back into his posture as he gets closer, but when he does he sees the squeeze of some git’s hand on Will’s shoulder and his jaw tightens.
He makes a point to let his eyes narrow on that touch before settling on the offender, nothing in his expression conveying a single, sorry hint of anything that could be interpreted as a friendly hello.
In fact, mostly what the look on his face says is that the hand better move off of Will before Montrose breaks it.
Especially as he tracks the frantic movement from Will’s hand, subtle but clear enough.
Montrose doesn’t quite respond as his eyes are still on the student with the traveling hands, in a bored tone he mutters, “Looking for directions, are they? Do you need directions on how to keep your hands to yourself?”
The hint received, the hands move off, Montrose keeps his eyes trained on the group, despite wanting to move to Will to make sure he’s okay. He draws Will subtly behind him just in case.
“That’s better. I think I will join….but perhaps you all go on ahead without us.” His eyes harden on them again with a threat. “Unless you need further directions…that is?”
The answer was clear in the group moving on, and only then did Monty let himself relax and look back towards Will, eyes roaming over to check no damage had been done.
“Are you alright?”

I don't ship lumity.
I don't hate them, I have no active animosity towards them, but like-
I....Don't really like... teenagers. In general. Or teenage romance. Or highschool dramas. Or coming of age shows. I also don't ship huntlow. Or that one dude everyone seems to think is perfect for Gus even tho he's literally twelve and like, a baby, no matter how deep his voice has gotten.
I really only like Luz bc she's part of a found family storyline. Which is what I actually do like. And which is why I keep de-aging her in all my writing tbh. Bc teenagers r just...idk. they're too old to be cute but too young to be old.
Old people are waaaay more interesting. Specifically older women, but we ain't taking about that today bc y'all already know my thoughts on that.
In conclusion, I, Itonomen, hate teenagers, and do not ship the teenage gays, and I am willingly put this out onto the internet for all to see, more than ready to accept your rotten produce and scathing remarks as you abandon me to my fate at the stake.
