You can be a mermaid on @mikaa.crossing ‘s island Barbados! Be ready for waterfalls and lots of pretty symmetrical decor.

I’m resetting my acnh island soon so I can restart the game from scratch, but first I’d like to share some of my favorite places on New Haven with you all! And maybe convince you to visit in a dream ☺️ I’m saying goodbye to New Haven, but it’d make me happy to know it’s still getting visitors!
New Haven is a hometown island with all the eccentricities you’d expect of a town ruled by a friendly overlord. There’s something going on in every inch of the island, and you’ll find all sorts of people and places as you explore. I’ve spent over 1100 hours here, and I’ve put a lot of love into it ^^
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Visitors should feel free to explore the main thoroughfares of the island, including an after-hours stroll through the beach market
Tumblr media Tumblr media
There are three neighborhoods on the island, each with their own unique quirks. Every villager also has their own backyard that tells you more about them! Punchy for example is building his own rocket ship, and Pancetti enjoys birdwatching :D
Tumblr media
You’ll find gnomes in charge of running most island functions, while gyroids assist their fellow island resident, Alex, in running the local rec center. The rec is a fully-equipped facility for the use of any and all island residents
Tumblr media Tumblr media
For something more lively, there is of course the local carnival grounds and the concert venue nearby!
Tumblr media
Can’t forget to mention the rose maze. Your mission, should you choose to accept it? Make it to the winners garden at the end after finding and picking each of the nine rose colors hidden within the maze!
Tumblr media Tumblr media
I should also mention a few of the, ahem, other residential locations on the island. They range from an alien crash-landing site (with its accompanying conspiracy theorist camp), to a fairy forest in which you should not under any circumstances accept any strange candy found laying around, to a mermaid-pirate turf war with a gnomish encampment caught in the crossfires. New Haven is open to all sorts of folks who make their home here!
Thank you for taking this tour of New Haven with me! This island has brought me a lot of joy over the past couple years, and I think it shows. I hope you’ll consider visiting!

it's actually fun just fucking. overhauling my entire acnh island. just fucking shit up
Tumblr media
changed my river to just run across the bottom bc it felt like it was restricting my decorating by being all over the island. gonna move everything off the mountain and flatten that and move my house and my neighbors over to put a mountain over there with a waterfall river that will connect to the river down there.

Cheating in video games is a venerable and time-honored tradition, and the pearl-clutching gamers and developers of recent years can shut the fuck up and sit down about it.
Sometimes playing with cheats is more fun and rewarding, and sometimes staying within the parameters of an “honest” game is more fun and rewarding, sometimes different playthroughs benefit from different approaches, but all of that’s up to the individual, playing for fun in their free time, not the moralizing peanut gallery.
I’d go so far as to say that haterous gamers who have never cheated could stand to live a little, and those who have cheated and hated the experience are totally valid but have no leg to stand on trying to extrapolate that personal experience onto others.
As a reminder in case people have forgotten or are too young to have experienced it, developers used to not only make cheating available, they made it easy and rewarding. I don't play a lot of new games, but I get the feeling that maybe this has changed, because I don’t know where else the pervasiveness of this attitude could have sprung up from. Some of it must be from the mainstreaming of video games, of course. The average human being likes to imagine themself as much more rule-abiding than the hacker-adjacent nerds (and outright hackers) of the late 20th century. And so it goes. The culture within gaming changed. But I suspect developers buy into this culture as well and we’re poorer in gaming experience options for it. Nintendo sure as hell hauls ass to make their systems and games as cheat-hostile as possible. Who the hell asked them to?
(And even Nintendo, mind, has not gotten rid of the capacity to time travel in ACNH, so they clearly remain a hell of a lot cooler with playing around and gaming the game than some modern gamers.)
My examples of warm cheat-friendliness from developers will be limited to just three, and I’ll start with Spyro. Yes, you could cheat code your way to 99 lives, thus making it an “easier” game, but those same 99 lives allow you to fuck around until you break the physics in Bamboo Terrace without worrying that your waterfall-suicides trying to find the glitch spot will cause a game over. Then you got the Big Head cheat and the cheats to change Spyro’s color. Those differ from 99 lives in function, and yet they’re all as easily accessible. The developers welcome players to input 99 lives just as much as they welcome the player to mess around with their favorite colors. They encourage talking about Spyro cheats with your friends and spreading them by word of mouth.
ZooTycoon went much further with the intricacies of their cheats. Yes, you could print infinite money, but it would only give you $10k at a time and damage your enclosure fences. If you’re going to cheat, you’re much better off doing it bigtime and at the very beginning. Kid me would start up a new game, jam the (was it Shift+4?) keys down with something narrow (like pencil tips I think), go eat breakfast, and then come back to find millions in the bank. And that’s just the start of it. Unicorns, inaccessible in an honest game, could be cheated into your zoo. Birds could swoop down and attack your guests in a nod to the Hitchcock film. These are cheats that were put there lovingly, for replay value. Honest-game Easter eggs also exist of course, but the message is very different when they’re simply sitting there vs when the developer hands you the keys to the car and says, “It’s up to you how you crash it. Have fun!”
Civilization II had an interesting cheat interface where it wasn’t even hidden. Anyone could open the literal goddamn dropdown menu of cheats and choose the one that suited them, or use the clearly labeled keyboard shortcuts, and the only “repercussions” iirc is that your save file would have a cheating mark on it and the cheat tab would be highlighted red so anyone could see at a glance that you’ve accessed it. You couldn’t pass off a cheated victory as an honest one, but no one sat there and tried to stop you from hacking the whole process to pieces. And that’s aside from non-cheat features like being able to build playable maps, and being able to play as aliens in an alien invasion of earth, with essentially an entirely guaranteed victory. Is it as rewarding or time-intensive to crush the human species when your tech is all unfathomably more powerful than theirs? No, not really. You’ll have to play an honest game from scratch to satisfy that itch. But man, is it a boatload of fun for a quick game.
Unfortunately, I don’t have much to say in the way of actually hacking games, modding, or writing bots to cheat - the closest I ever came to anything like that as a kid was my trick with jamming the keys for an hour to print infinite ZooTycoon money. But if games don’t offer to let gamers run off the rails for funsies, it really is up to the gamers to find out ways to do it regardless.
Cheating, my friends, is entirely for shits and giggles. And last time I checked, so is playing video games in the first place.

More ACNH stuff (outside)
Tumblr media
Here be where you would come in from the seaplane. The whole island is overgrown with flowers and weeds and stuff but whatever
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Then we got whatever the hell this is,, Bad Trip Area and wheat field that makes the game lag with how much wheat there is
Tumblr media Tumblr media
This cool kinda area which also gives you a view of the sunken waterfall
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Campsite and path leading to it
Tumblr media Tumblr media
The waterfall view also overlooks this pond/lake that you can hop across w the little squares of land
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Then we enter the "campus" area
Tumblr media Tumblr media
I put the couch out there bc I noticed in college a lot of people would just put couches clearly meant for indoor use on their porches. And of course it's surrounded by "beer" cans.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Enter the Mario block tunnel...
Tumblr media Tumblr media
...Which spits you out at Cherry's house and her adjoining diner

can we see how ur acnh island looks?
it is so ugly 😜
LMAO but give me like a week! bc i just finished unflattening (don’t think that’s a word at all!) everything and all my buildings and villager houses are towards the front BUT this is the general idea for it
i unfortunately got an island where my resident services is at the very front and i’m trying to work around that and keep everything as symmetrical and even as possible bc if i don’t it’s going to make me crazy.
AND THEN I CAN START DECORATING
i still have so much left to do like fitting in lakes and waterfalls and stuff but having the base of everything has made it so much more fun bc a few days ago i was ready to scrap it LMAOOO
