It had felt surreal to make up her face and feel the thick fabric of a party dress on her skin. Then even more surreal to actually leave her room, get into Giorgio’s truck and drive out to the mesa to meet a family of strangers. The world seemed to blur and tunnel into a stream of noise as they walked through the ranch toward the smiling faces waiting to greet them.
On unsteady heels she stood behind her brother, Zelda, and Violette, leaning onto Gio’s arm as they introduced themselves: Abraham Hines, third generation rancher and Antoine’s new employer; Jessamine Hines, Abraham’s grandmother and lifelong resident of Strangerville; Mabel Hines, local cook and native of Chicago; and then finally, their children Adeline, William, and Lillie Mae Hines.
As they proceeded with the awkward machinations of first time introductions, Josephine smiled in the background. With envy she thought back to all the moments she had been able to bring a group together with a witty retort and a laugh. Instead she stayed quiet as they got acquainted, their comfort with one another growing with every word, until finally the child who had introduced himself as William went to Violette in a stream of happy chatter.
Although she looked up toward her parents quizzically, unsure of how exactly to interact with anyone her own age, his movement and the subsequent giggles that rippled amongst them seemed to finally bring the party together. Smiling and chatting, they retreated inside for dinner. The children walked off first, Violette’s reservations still palpable, and then Zelda, Jessamine, and Mabel as they engaged in easy conversation on the state of the schoolhouse as Antoine and Abraham chuckled together quietly at the success of their plans.
Even as their voices disappeared behind the wooden walls, Jo’s feet remained firmly planted on the desert sand. Take a breath, Josephine. Go inside. Speak like you used to. You know how to do this, you must. For Violette.
Yet her legs seemed unwilling to move, to fall in line and follow everyone else. She wanted to turn and run, to throw her red heels into a valley and disappear amongst the orange rocks. Maybe no one would find her out there. Maybe Violette would be fine with her mother and father; maybe these new friends were all any of them needed. Maybe they didn’t need her, maybe she could disappear, she could run….
But then Gio turned around, his eyes soft and worried as he searched her face and read her thoughts. He extended his hand and whispered words of reassurance that he’d be with her every step of the way, ready to start up the truck and run with her if she needed to. His hand on her shoulder seemingly held her in place as the buzzards circled and the desert called. Run, Josephine. Run. Run before it’s too late. But he lifted her face to his and nodded, pulling her toward the house and away from the desert.
Throughout dinner the merriment of the table seemed to come from the other side of a glass, the rich and abundant food a memory from her past and not a current reality. Through it all she told herself that she was doing it for Violette. She was smiling and speaking and simply existing for Violette. She couldn’t have said at what point in the night that determination began to shift in favor of herself or when the words and the faces moved past the glass and into her reality, enriching her soul rather than draining it.
Maybe it was Giorgio’s constant attentive gaze, or Violette’s growing smile and dwindling fear, or perhaps it was just being surrounded by laughing strangers again, buoying her from herself and the empty space she had found in the silent room. But little by little Josephine found that she was enjoying herself more and more. Perhaps more importantly, as forks clattered to the table and children began to play in the adjacent rooms, she could recognize the smile on her face and the tenor of her own voice as it spoke to others. For the first time in months, she felt like herself.
After Mabel had cleared the plates and returned to her seat next to Abraham, the room was filled with quieter, adult conversation carried along by scratchy music coming from the small radio. They sipped their coffee as they discussed the state of the town and employment, until Abraham cleared his throat and looked toward the parlor, where the children sat gathered near his grandmother’s feet. Satisfied that they were too engrossed in her story to hear him, he turned back to his guests.
“Now as I told Antoine, getting Violette enrolled at the schoolhouse shouldn't be any problem. There’s only a handful a’ black children in town, and most of their families been here too long for any efforts at segregation. Luckily this town’s got a long history of safe harbor since before the war, back when my granddad settled here, and barring any Texan influx it should stay that way. But with that new road running through town and the price of our crops tanking, you’ve got to forgive myself and anyone else for the cold welcome you might have gotten these last months.”
He paused for a moment to look at the photo over his shoulder before his eyes settled back on Antoine, “But I’m no stranger to the rest of this country. Neither me nor Mabel. I know what you must have dealt with down there, and we’ve got to stick together. You’ll make it here, all of you. I’ll try and make sure of it.”
His tone was imbued with such a warm note of certainty, brighter and more steady than anything any of them had heard since they arrived, that each one of them actually believed it, even Josephine.

HLC REACT TO MC'S PUFFSKIEN ARMY
MC had enough to swarm even the toughest camp. No one could handle the mass of cute they commanded. MC felt more powerful than if they were controlling an armada of dragons. Forget a few dozen. MC has HUNDREDS of rolly polly puff balls. They breed rather quickly
SEBASTIAN SALLOW: He finds it hysterical! Watching MC command the flood of fur to overtake any suspicious encampment they come across is extremely entertaining. The enemies never know what hit them.
OMINIS GAUNT: He's not a fan of Puffskiens. He doesn't like their fascination with his nose. And for MC to willingly capture and breed so many of them is beyond him. He will never go inside the vivarium, even when invited.
ANNE SALLOW: She really likes hanging out in the vivariums. She can just lay down and be cuddled by hundreds of walking pillows. It's rather nice, as long as you wear nose plugs.
IMELDA REYES: Are they serious? No really, stop selling her this cock and bull story of puffskiens defeating wizards. She refuses to believe it until MC opens their nabsack and releases the horde. She has to escape them via broom.
NATSAI ONAI: She applauds MC's creativity. She is sure that the villains of the valley have many defenses against wizards, but who would expect puffskiens?
GARRETH WEASLEY: Unlimited puffskien fur. That's how he sees it. MC produces so much of the stuff, they could stuff a mattress.
LEANDER PREWETT: ...hhwat? This has got to be the single most insane thing he's ever heard of. A literal puffskien army? This will go down in the history books alongside the Bard that tried to teach trolls ballet.
AMIT THAKKAR: Are they sure that's actually safe? For them or the puffskiens? He knows the little things are pretty durable to magic, but they're not invulnerable.
EVERETT CLOPTON: He begs MC to let him borrow the nabsack to use in the Ravenclaw dorm. Why? They'll see.
POPPY SWEETING: This is a lot, even for her. Is MC sure they can handle this many beasts? They may be small, and relatively docile, but they can be quite a handful even in small groups. She does love the irony of poachers and dark wizards being defeated by them, however.

ELEAZAR FIG: He'll admit, of all the ideas MC has had, this is one of the weirder ones. As long as they're sure they can actually take care of all those beasts, he won't interfere.
MATILDA WEASLEY: MC is doing what with an army of what? Nonono, absolutely not. MC getting themselves into trouble on purpose is bad enough, but she cannot allow a student to run amok with an irresponsible number of beasts in their pocket. She will confiscate that nabsack until MC can use it responsibly.
CHIYO KOGAWA: She's impressed. No matter how small, magical creatures tend to have minds of their own. One has to be a pretty strong leader to maintain control over such a large group.
AESOP SHARP: As long as those beasts aren't running amuck in the castle, he doesn't give a niffler's ass.
ABRAHAM RONEN: He is endlessly amused by MC's depth for whimsy, even in dire circumstances. Fighting off villains with Puffskiens? BRILLIANT!
MIRABEL GARLICK: Oh dear, she hopes MC is able to care and feed for all of those beasts. That seems like quite a few to take care of.
MUDIWA ONAI: Is this...normal for British wizards? Seems a bit eccentric.
BAI HOWIN: That's one way to handle the poaching problem, she supposes.
DINAH HECAT: She'll have a drink with Sharp. This isn't any of her concern. MC is doing just fine. Calm down Matilda, honestly.
CUTHBERT BINNS: He never knows the goings on outside of his classroom.
SATYAVATI SHAH: She swears on the nine realms, if she finds ONE puffskien hair in her classroom, she's taking house points.
PHINEAS NIGELLUS BLACK: A student fighting dark wizards with puffskiens? Please, don't bore him with outright lies. He's too clever for those.

VICTOR ROOKWOOD: This is ridiculous!! It's bad enough he's losing territory and respect within the valley, but for his gang to be dismantled by bloody puffskiens!? It's embarrassing, to put it lightly.
ASHWINDERS: They're confused by the messages sent to them by Rookwood. "Beware the Puffskiens?" What's he going on about? They find out soon enough when the earth rumbles with rolling thunder as hundreds of fur balls descend on them.
POACHERS: Interestingly enough, puffskiens have been extraordinarily hard to find as of late. Perhaps they over poached the area and now they're gone. At least that's what they think, under they're buried under a mountain of fur.
RANROK: What. The actual. Grogtash? He has seen and heard of wizards doing some wacky things to fight back, but this is a first. Even when his loyalists use dark ancient magic against the horde, their numbers are too great.

DUNCAN HOBHOUSE: Lives in constant fear of the puffskien invasion. He sees them in his sleep. Hundreds of long, hungry tongues come to eat his brain! If he sees MC in the corridors, he runs away.

So many people thought Sasha in Rick’s exit was a fluke. However, I think of the three ghosts Shane “Past”. Hershel ”Present” and Sasha “Future” her presence was the most salient and most mirrors Rick’s exit.
Sasha doesn’t fear death because she was a preview of what was going to happen with Rick. Her last chance for life/love had died with Abraham. Like Rick says later he can’t go through that again finding a way to die while living. Sasha uses her death to try and help the others

Rick finally wakes up
Rick mirrors Sasha in that he was dead but comes alive in order to help others. This time Rick fights to stay alive and is bouyed by those who died (Carl) and those living (Michonne).
Physical and metaphysical suicides
Sasha: We don’t die
Michonne: Love doesn’t die
And this is why it is an EPIC LOVE STORY, without love Rick would have become Sasha.
Their stories even mirror their battles and battles to come with Saviors/CRM (same thing super long post coming) . Funny how no one complained that with a super long and tedious build up of the Saviors that it was over so quick with Sasha attacking Negan… Because most people back then had sense enough to realize that the entire organization hadn’t fallen, Just like the entire CRM hasn’t fallen because we were even told that there are secret factions, spies, charts and graphs. The truth of the matter is those who complained was because it did not end the way they wanted with a death or deaths of the main characters … go figure.
Anywho… Sasha’s angst and sorrow was a preview of the emotional turmoil Rick felt in the CRM. I still believe we got the Cliff-note version of what really happened to him and there is more to be revealed.

Crawly didn't save the children.
By the time she'd talked herself into trying, it was already too late. The ark was closed and warded against demonic interference, and she didn't have the kind of power that would let her walk on water or teleport with another living thing. Her miracles could be impressive to a human, but barely registered on Hell's scales.
She watched as the corpses of the valley floated to the surface.
She saw the old man who sold oranges on the third stall from the corner in the market. Young women she'd tempted to a bit of gossip the other day. A little boy named Levi who had just turned four, and had helped his sister Sarai braid Crawly’s hair with flowers last week. A farmer named Toviyah who she couldn't tempt to adultery; she'd been reprimanded for failing that assignment a year ago. A teenager she'd tempted into stealing some food from the kitchen where he worked who had made it a habit, a good gluttony-and-greed one-two. Ayalah, the woman who had turned the temptation tables on Crowley and shown her how to drink.
An infant, born just a four days before. Babies all looked the same to her usually, but this one was born with only one arm, which is pretty distinctive. He hadn't had his bris; Leah, his mother, hadn't named him yet: she had told Crawly she been planning to call her first son Noah. No relation to the man who was apparently God's chosen; it would have been in honor of her grandfather, who'd died suddenly about two years ago. Crawly had been supposed to tempt her into disobeying him, and had wound up comforting her in her grief instead.
Why was this Noah condemned to drown while Noah ben Lamech was allowed to live? What possible sins could a baby have committed?
Crawly watched, and watched, and watched, until the corpses sank again below the waters.
She'd seen divine punishment against humans before. It hadn't happened a lot so far, but the world was still pretty young, and God had seemed to get a taste for it when She'd cast half her angelic children to Hell. But she hadn't been around the other ones much. She'd been able to shrug it off as Her capriciousness, Her cruelty, something Crawly would never be able to understand but might as well accept. What was the word that the angel Aziraphale had used? "Ineffable."
But it was different, when it was people you knew. Crawly had been living here for three years. It was her fault this time, and not just by proxy of the apple thing.
And Crawly thought that maybe, just maybe, if she hadn't dithered, she could have saved some of them. Even if only the baby Noah.
Too late.
Author's note:
My information about Jewish naming customs comes from this website. Apparently male circumcision wasn't commanded until Abraham, but since this is Good Omens I decided to be anachronistic about it.
I tried to make sure I used the Hebrew version of all names, checking with Wikipedia or Behind The Name for accuracy, but since I can't read Hebrew I can't guarantee it.

I got the Farmer Thoughts™ again.
So you know how the Farmer can do magic in the vanilla game, and SVE expands on this concept even further. They can see Junimos, they can transmute metals, they can teleport to another continent. And with the Magic mod, they can blast their enemies with a meteorite or standard Fireballs.
But unlike Morgan, the Farmer was never taken away from their family to train under a more experienced wizard or witch. They lead a regular life prior to Stardew Valley, minus the skeleton in the neighboring cubicle at their job.
I got an idea as to why they could lead a normal life, and I'm sure as hell incorporating that into my Farmer's bio.
The Farmer's a late bloomer in terms of magic. They did not show signs of magical talent when they were Morgan's age, which came with a sigh of relief from their Parent. The Parent, after witnessing the tragic death of their mother (RSV Granny) due to a magical curse, wanted their kid safe AT. ALL. COST. and away from anything magic. They most likely never developed any magical skills themselves, or they too are a late bloomer (I like the second option). And they were thinking they were in the clear, finally.
...Until their kid, the Farmer, came to Pelican Town and got involved with Magnus and the Junimos within the first week of them living there. Shit.
Bonus:
The Parent got a major grudge against the Cult of the Lady with the Red Tail and said Lady with the Red Tail for being the cause of their mother's untimely death.
While they don't necessarily feel any hatred towards the Wizards of Stardew Valley, Magnus and Mr. Aguar, they still don't trust them fully because of magic. Definitely not a huge fan of Magnus after the Parent learns of the forest magic potion the Farmer drinks.

I have to say, your thoughts on headcanon almost perfectly describes my Farmer Julian's lore.
As you said earlier, in theory, everyone can manifest magic at different ages: some from early childhood (like Morgan), some a little later or after forty etc. (Julian and the other Farmers), and some will have magic "no awaked" (Julian's father, Abraham, who inherited magic from his father, the Farmer's Grandpa). Given that Julian's parents are aware of the existence of magic, but not in detail, it raises a lot of questions. And Granny's death, according to the RSV lore, could put an end to trust in all things magical, you're right.
Also thoughts about Magnus and Mr. Aguar is so funny 🤣
Farmer's Parent to Magnus: What do you mean my kid drank "tea" made of fly agaric?!
Farmer: Mum/Dad, don't kill Magnus...
Magnus: *praying for his life*
There is also speculation that it was after they moved away that the magic manifested in Farmer because of the Stardew Valley itself. This place full of forest spirits, magic, and monsters can't help but affect residents and visitors alike. Especially those with an innate magical gift, or those who haven't yet developed one.
I still don't quite understand, however - how exactly Morgan was taken from their family and given to Magnus for training. Does the Ministry discuss it with the parents of the gifted child, is the child "persuaded" by promises of teaching interesting magic and tricks, or is the child taken away almost by force and without any compromise? If by force, I can see why Farmer wasn't taken away for training - after all, a child can be persuaded or intimidated, but try to pull that off with a young adult who can still kick your ass. But that's just a theory, I wanted to provide the Ministry not as a completely evil and corrupt society of mages and witches.
