Rose: Perhaps you’ll let me know next time about faking hauntings in our B&B before things escalate? Abby: But I did! It was all in the proposal. The one that was on your desk with the big note that said, “Please read.” Rose: Well if you’re going to hide things on my desk of all places...

What Random Nancy Drew Characters Would Be Like Getting or Being Referred for Botox for Migraine
yes this is an extremely niche post but i got my first round today and i am NOTHING if not self serving on this blog !!!!!
Tumblr media
Abby Sideris - let’s be real she would not end up getting it and would tell anyone in her life she knew who was getting migraines that this really special essential oil blend she made would “totally cure them”
Tumblr media
lisa ostrum - also would not get it (maybe i should change the title of this?) but would loudly and incredulously say “WHAT? you’re not sticking needles in my HEAD!?! i’m outta here!!” in the most annoying voice ever and walk out of the appt never to return
Tumblr media
ethel bossiny - this bitch would not even react. she would just say in a level voice “ok doctor, i’m ready now,” sit in the chair with her hands crossed exactly like this and her face would not change at all with the needles going in. totally unphased!! absolutely nothing.
Tumblr media
malachi craven - oh this dude would be a NIGHTMARE. he’d get annoyed that he couldn’t inject himself and grumble about it the whole time and tell the doctor they don’t know what they’re doing/are doing it wrong and that he could do it better.
Tumblr media
izzy romero - she would literally be THRILLED. she would be so excited to get it because she’d think it would keep her from getting wrinkles and looking ~old~ 100%

G’day, Clue Crew! Dropping in, to talk about one of my favorite artists: Alphonse Mucha. His work can be seen in several Nancy Drew games.
Alphonse Mucha, was a Czech painter, illustrator, and graphic artist, living in Paris during the Art Nouveau period, best known for his distinctly stylized and decorative theatrical posters, particularly those of Sarah Bernhardt. He produced illustrations, advertisements, decorative panels, as well as designs, which became among the best-known images of the period.
The slider puzzle box, as seen above, was featured in The Final Scene. The tiles have Mucha’s Zodiac decorating them. But this was not Zodiac’s debut in a Nancy Drew game—oh, no, no, no. She can first be seen in Abby Sideris’ bedroom, in Message in a Haunted Mansion.
Tumblr media
Zodiac is again seen in the gift shop of Castle Finster in The Captive Curse.
Tumblr media
However, Zodiac isn’t the only piece of Alphonse Mucha’s work to be displayed in a Nancy Drew game. Emily Crandall, from Secret of the Old Clock, has no less than 5 Mucha pieces, in her bedroom. She displays every print from The Seasons series, on her walls.
This was Mucha's first set of decorative panels and it became one of his most popular series. It was so popular that Mucha was asked by Champenois to produce at least two more sets based on the same theme in 1897 and 1900. Designs for a further two sets also exist.
The idea of personifying the seasons was nothing new - examples could be found in the works of the Old Masters' as well as in Champenois's other publications. However, Mucha's nymph-like women set against the seasonal views of the countryside breathed new life into the classic theme. In the four panels shown here, Mucha captures the moods of the seasons - innocent Spring, sultry Summer, fruitful Autumn and frosty Winter, and together they represent the harmonious cycle of Nature.
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
You’ll notice that the picture that “mysteriously keeps moving,” is not part of aforementioned polyptych. This Mucha piece is called Friendship. It was featured in the New York Daily News on April 3rd, 1904.
The New York Daily News referred to him as "the world's greatest decorative artist," and dedicated its Sunday Art Section to Mucha on April 3, 1904. For the illustration on the cover of that section, Mucha created a wonderful allegorical image entitled Friendship, in which America and France are each depicted as women. America, with stars on both her tiara and gown and red and white ribbons cascading from her hair, appears as the young protégé of France, who watches over her, protectively adorned with lilies in her hair and fleur-de-lys patterns on her dress. As Jirí Mucha points out, the two women are jointly "holding a wreath of lime leaves, [a] national symbol of Czechoslovakia.”
Tumblr media
I personally adore Mucha’s allegorical style and really appreciate that he’s featured in the Nancy Drew PC games. One might even argue that Art Nouveau influences us, to this day. Perhaps it even played a part in the design and illustrations of some aspects of the games. Art is always changing—artists grow upon the backs of their predecessors. Mucha is still highly influential and relevant.
His work and the style he developed during the period of 1893 to 1903 came to define an era and forever serve as an influence to future illustrators
I loved the Alphonse Mucha pieces from the PC games, long before I went to university and wrote papers, on his work. I’d like to think I, in part, owe my love of Art Nouveau, to Nancy Drew. 🔎🖼
That is all. Happy scrolling.

Abby Sideris (MHM), Simone Mueller (FIN), and Yumi Shimizu (SAW)
As a child I adored the Nancy Drew PC games, and now as an adult, Im rediscovering old favorites and finding new entries to the series! I'm even getting my friends to play. So an expression challenge I was doing just turned into an excuse to finally draw some Nancy Drew suspects.

Replaying Nancy Drew without cheating - Part 2: Message in a Haunted Mansion
I am done with this game faster than you can say “Hasta la pasta.” I don’t remember this game being so easy, but maybe it’s because I have played it at least a dozen times. It’s amazing the things that can stay in my brain for 20 years, when my boss can explain something to me now and I will forget it by tomorrow morning. But ANYWAYS...
Tumblr media
This game was fun for nostalgic reasons, but I think it is probably one of the least challenging games of the series. It took me less than 2 hours to get through the entire thing. All of the puzzles were quick, the timeline is pretty linear, and I was not tempted to cheat even ONCE. That’s when you know it is super easy, because I am the laziest person I know. If I am stuck for more than 30 seconds, I am generally about ready to throw in the towel.
What can I say about this game?
1. It is a classic. It will always be a classic. It embodies what Nancy Drew PC games are really all about. There’s a slide puzzle, mysterious “accidents”, several really creepy moments (the whispering voices that you hear in the hall still gives me goosebumps. The ghostly laugh and the basement door swinging closed on its own used to make me scream in terror as a child). I think a lot of people played this as their first Nancy Drew game, so that will always make it special.
Tumblr media
2. Unfortunately, with the exception of Abby “Do You Dare Mock the Supernatural” Sideris, the characters are all boring as HELLL. In fact, this game in general is kind of boring. I hate to even say it, but I think it might be true. There just are not a lot of places to explore, and the culprit is the dullest person alive. This makes me very sad because I think this could be a case of me having played this through too many times, and so maybe the magic has worn off for me just a bit.
Tumblr media
3. Are Rose and Abby secret lesbian lovers? For some reason this is my head canon, although apparently Rose had some romantic entanglement with Louis in the book, so I have no idea where I got this from.
Tumblr media
4. Consistent with being the most boring culprit to ever exist, Louis comes up with this extremely low-effort threat on a piece of very boring brown paper. If a threatening note were a person, this threatening note is Louis Chandler. The thought of him slipping this under the door and then sprinting down the hall in his boring tie and his boring button down is hilarious to me.
Tumblr media
5. Nancy calls this a “cybermystery” in the very beginning. A cybermystery. I don’t even have the words.
6. Charlie tells Nancy that he doesn’t know how to do the work on the house but learns quickly, and then 2 seconds later tells her he couldn’t be behind the accidents because he knows how to do the work. Pick a lane, you filthy Ned knockoff.
Tumblr media
7. If there is one thing I got out of this play-through, it’s that it is the first play-through where I noticed THAT MOVING SWAN TABLE THING. Iykyk. Abby can fake-haunt the mansion all she wants with her amateur seance and her stupid tapes. If I actually saw this shit you would never see me again.
Tumblr media
I don’t dislike this game. I am very fond of it. It’s charming. It’s spooky. It holds a special place in my heart. It just doesn’t grab me the way it used to.
I’m sure a healthy dose of Professor Hotchkiss will be the perfect remedy.

My niece is starting a crystal and botanical shop. She showed me me some of the pendulums she was making and I instantly thought of Abby Sideris’ room in Message in a Haunted Mansion. She is a Nancy Drew game lover as well and she laughed when I mentioned it.
So please checkout her Etsy shop!

Conversation
Charlie: “A man with one watch knows the time. A man with two is never sure.”
Rose: What?
Charlie: I had fortune cookies for breakfast.
Abby: So... what? You had leftover Chinese?
Charlie: No, just the cookies.
Abby: Do you put milk on the fortune cookies?
Charlie: It's not cereal, it's a fortune cookie.
