now taking a break of talking about my little man to actually address the game: it looks pretty amazing so far. melinoë plays much differently from zagreus, which was a welcome change - it feels fresh and new instead of just a rehash.
the new characters are really good too. with all due respect, i'm finding melinoë more compelling than zagreus as a protagonist. she has a lot more pressure on her shoulders and is still quite naive about the world and her circumstances. she's more serious and subdued and has a lot of space to grow in the game as she learns, i think.
but i think the most interesting part of it so far is that from some of the dialogues i've seen, the war against chronos may not be as black and white as it first appears. chronos will still probably be a douchebag but they're also putting a lot of time in showing us that, to the mortals, the gods might be worse than he is.
some mortals are siding with him to bring back a 'golden age', a time which aphrodite described being boring because 'nothing happened' (meaning, it was a lot more peaceful). nemesis also straight up states that mortals had it better when chronos ruled compared to now, and appears conflicted over that, saying that maybe what happened to them was their long overdue comeuppance.
and there is, of course, arachne, who is the most vocal about mistrusting the gods ever since she was cursed by athena, and who unlike sisyphus, orpheus, achilles and dusa, who were all punished by gods but gracefully resigned to their roles and accepted their fates to the best of their abilities until zagreus intervened, arachne hates what was done to her and suffers because of it even now. she remains a friend to melinoë, but her discomfort with how she's being aided by the olympians does not go away, at least for now.
aside from all of that, hecate and odysseus are plotting something that involves 'attacking olympus', which seems to disturb melinoë until hecate corrects herself to say 'attack, defend... all the same'. so really, i'm curious to see where they're taking all of this.

Do you guys think charon looks after melinoë in a way because
1. he’s doing it on behalf of zagreus
2. he misses hypnos and thanatos and he misses taking care of them when they were younger

Zagreus had mentioned how he doesn't hate his father. That even though, for his entire life, Hades neglected him, yelled at him, gave him nothing close to familiar affection.. Zagreus never actually hated his father.
And isn't that so much worst?
If you hate someone, it's so easy to write off every little thing they do/say against you as something you shouldn't be bothered with. I speak from experience, it's so easy to have someone you hate yell at you and belittle you and to just ignore it. The memory leaves your mind because you just tell yourself that it doesn't matter. You hate them, why should anything they think about you be important?
But Zagreus doesn't hate Hades. So how is that worst?
Because Zagreus thinks about everything Hades does. He tries to find reason in why his father is like that. Every time his father talks down to him from his aggressively massive throne, he thinks of what he could do to make it better. At least in the beginning, but I think at some point it turned into indifference, feigning ignorance. But I don't doubt that, in his mind, Zagreus held onto every little thing Hades ever said about him. He probably thinks about it, in the few quiet moments he has. Thinking about something, constantly turning it over in your mind, is so much worst than just.. erasing it from memory.
I can't imagine how many nights young Zagreus might've stayed awake, restless, thinking about his father. Wondering where this resentment came from? Why won't he look at his own son, why does he nitpick every little thing Zagreus does? Why isn't he allowed in that one locked area next to his chambers, and why did his father get so upset when he asked..?
It's so much worst to repeatedly play over and over again in your mind why someone acts a certain way towards you, to dissect every sentence to find the pieces that will form an explanation that you'll never be given.

So I've noticed that, by this current point in the Hades 2 technical test, we are missing a total of 5 Olympians, four of which were in Hades and I just wanted to theorise as to where they are (under the assumption that they will be in the end game).
I'll begin with the 4 from the previous game, although the reasoning for some is rather obvious.
Athena, is a war Goddess, in the middle of a current war. We're not going to be seeing her frequently, but I'm sure that at certain points in the story that she may appear, especially with tie-ins like Odysseus and Arachne.
Similarly, Ares, also a war God, and with his domain with the heat of battle and blood lust and such, would probably be in the front lines and keeping the lines from falling back. He's busy at the moment. Although, again I feel, once you've reached a certain point in the story, that we'll see and interact with him as well.
Hermes, here we know the technical has briefly mentioned what he's doing and what his current role is. So, for him, it's a waiting game for the story to progress for further information and hopefully interaction. But no matter what, he, in some form, is already confirmed in the game.
This leaves Dionysius, who I've had the most fun theorising as to where he is, and I believe his absence is connected to Zagreus. In the first game, Dionysius and Zagreus play a prank on Orpheus and tell him that they are the same person, and he believes it and even creates music from it.
Now, we know from Demeter that Zeus created the myth that she was his sister, but that still didn't make it so. However, we don't know what human beliefs do in certain ways, and I believe that this prank may have tied Dionysius and Zagreus together in a way that's not leaving Dionysius having the best time right now. For all intents and purposes, I believe the prank connected the two in some way so that Dionysius is experiencing some form of what is going on down in the underworld and it's driving him insane, and as such, unlocking the God of madness.
This leaves the last Olympian who has been neither seen nor heard throughout the first game or the technical so far, Hera. As we currently have no information on her or how they will show her or what myths they would use, she's effectively free real estate for theories, but I do fully believe by the end of Hades 2, we will have seen all the Olympians.
There's two ways I believe this could go. In the first, I believe you will not be able to unlock Hera until you've proven yourself, Ie until you've beaten the big boss for the first time, similarly to Demeter in the first game.
The other is far more theoretical but follows the line of the Dionysius prank. Hera is not a good guy in the song that Orpheus creates from the prank and if any of my theory about what's going with Dionysius is true, then Hera may be working with Chronos.

thinking about how hades achilles' purpose in the house of hades is being zagreus' mentor, to introduce and teach him battle prowess so he's able to defend himself if he is ever exposed to anything beyond the house among other things.
thinking about how hades achilles provides more of a parental figure, or at least a guardian than zagreus is able to confide with, zagreus telling achilles about his journeys through the underworld, and so much more. they are family.
thinking about how hades achilles must have felt when he finds out zagreus had been taken by chronos. how he failed his duty, his purpose, and his role. was it like losing the son he never had, but raised and accompanied nonetheless? had he grieved, is he still?

it’s my blog and i can add snippets of brain rot here if i want to
“Here, I found this.” Zagreus presses the bottle into Thanatos’s hand. “Open, let’s drink it together right now.”
Thanatos hesitates. His internal clock chimes impatiently. There’s so much work to do. But Zagreus’s cheeks are pink and warm. He touches his lips to Zagreus’s cheek and feels the blood rushing within, life so close to the surface of his skin. He brings the bottle to his lips and pulls the stopper out with his teeth.
The first sip of nectar always tastes like the moment Zagreus pushes him against the thick feather bed in his room, the space between heartbeats and between kisses, the sweetness of a kiss, the heaviness of Zagreus’s warm body over his. He lets it wash over him, this small luxury in a line of small luxuries he’s been enjoying since he let himself be loved. Zagreus kisses a drop from his lips and swallows eagerly. Thanatos brings the bottle to Zagreus’s mouth and carefully tips it, watching the glowing golden liquid pour past his lips. A thin line of nectar drips down his chin. Thanatos licks it up and feels it burst on his tongue.
“Doesn’t drinking this make you hate the Olympians just a little?” Zagreus whispers. “When I get up there, I’ll bring a whole mountain of nectar down to you. I love the look on your face when you drink it.”
