Art by Yuming Li. Made me think of Kass from a gentler universe, somewhere kinder, where she is instead an angel of death. A different lens than her father's, but still, ultimately, the light reveals her.
GDI Morgan it's too early on a Thursday for me to be all weepy about Kass and this is just so beautiful and now I'm having heartbreaking thoughts about alternate timelines and I need to go lie down...

is this ai
It is not!
If you use the link to their instagram on this post they have a few process videos underneath the reels tab. It seems there are more videos up on their patreon but I don’t have the money to be subscribing to things for this blog, sorry haha.
Scrolling through their instagram I can see a clear development in style and skill from their earliest posts to their newer posts that use similar techniques and color palettes. Stylistic consistency is one thing you can look at to decide if the art has been human-created but artists are capable of exploring varying styles so don’t rely on it too much. (Though I do think even when an artist tries a new style there are still glints of their habits that will shine through).
When you zoom in you can see very distinctive brushstrokes which AI has a difficult time replicating (ai art usually looks really compressed and muddy up close even when its attempting to recreate a style with expressive brushwork like impressionism).
A close up of this artist’s work will show you very defined expressive brushwork. They seem to use some self created digital brushes (that I believe they offer a free download of). It’s clearly intentional and you can study the individual choices the artist was making with their brush in a way you pretty much never can with AI:
This is a close up of an ai generated piece that tried to replicate the impressionist style. you just see random splotches of color blending into one another in a way that is very indistinct. Which might pass for another style but if you’re replicating impressionism it pretty much fails step one:
Anyways yea. Thats a few of the reasons I can tell you that this art has indeed been created by human hands. It is also, very beautifully crafted in my opinion.
