Antebellum Period (pt. 1: White Women)

During this period white women (espesially those of the upperclass) where put into even stricter gender roles, confining them to be on a pedistal of society were they were to be seen and not heard, as well as being submissive to the males population while simultaniously being “protected” by them.  

These strict gender roles include the prominent doting wife/mother/ daughter role who’s life long role was to please the  male head of the household, and domestic work or the overseeing of it in the case of wealthy slave owning families/ women.

White women (mainly in the north) took on leading roles in the Abolishionist and the sufferage movements.
