#Wei Ying said He’s my son!
Text
Never getting over baby a-Yuan clinging to LWJ’s leg while all those villagers scolded him for being a shitty parent/tried to offer parenting tips and he was like “no you don’t understand he’s not my kid, I’m not his dad”
Then Wei Wuxian was like “He’s my son! I gave birth to him myself!”
And Lan Wangji was immediately like “Oh okay I guess he IS my kid and I AM his dad and now I am going to buy him Every Toy because it is my right as his father to spoil him.”

One afternoon while Wei Ying is preparing dinner, A-Yuan looks up from his toy trucks and asks, “Baba, how comes lots of people in my class have a mom, but I don’t?”
Wei Ying’s hands falter at the chopping board. “Every family is different,” he explains carefully. “One mom, two moms, one dad, two dads. There’s loads of options.”
“But who decides?”
“What do you mean, baobei?” Wei Ying asks.
A-Yuan looks at him like he’s being silly. “Who decides who gets one baba, or two babas, or ten babas?”
Wei Ying laughs. He’s relieved A-Yuan only seems curious and isn’t upset. “Well, grown ups usually decide if they want a husband or a wife. And then they have baby radishes together.” He gives A-Yuan’s nose a gentle poke, making the boy giggle. “But some people like me decide to do it alone.” His explanation is probably not the best, but A-Yuan’s questions have admittedly taken him by surprise.
“So grown ups can have a husband or a wife…” A-Yuan holds up two sticky fingers to demonstrate. “And Baba still doesn’t have anyone?”
“I—” Wei Ying is gobsmacked. He stares at A-Yuan with his mouth agape. A-Yuan looks at him expectantly, like he’s waiting to hear an explanation as to why his Baba is incapable of finding love. Wei Ying quickly turns away and starts plating out their food. “Dinner’s ready.”
“Aunty Yanli said—”
“Eat up, baby.” Wei Ying grins wide and feeds A-Yuan a mouthful of rice, effectively shutting him up. And that’s the end of that.
Or so he thinks.
The next morning on the school playground, A-Yuan escapes from Wei Ying’s hold the second he spots Lan Jingyi, running into his friend’s arms like they’ve been separated for years. They see each other every weekday, and sometimes on the weekends too.
Wei Ying laughs and spots Jingyi’s dad looking similarly amused. The sun is out today and Lan Zhan’s pretty eyes sparkle in the sunlight. He’s utterly breathtaking. Wei Ying's heartbeat still stutters every time they see each other, and they see each other almost every day. It’s humiliating, really.
“Good morning, Wei Ying,” Lan Zhan greets, voice as rich and low as ever.
“Morning, Lan Zhan.” Wei Ying gives him a big, beaming grin. “How was your weekend without us?”
Lan Zhan doesn’t quite smile, but there’s laughter in his eyes. “Messy. Jingyi got into—”
“Mr Lan! Mr Lan!” A-Yuan runs back over and attaches himself to Lan Zhan’s leg like a limpet, creasing up his neatly ironed slacks.
“Yes, A-Yuan?” Lan Zhan’s hand instinctively goes to A-Yuan’s head, patting it like he does his own son’s.
“Baba needs a husband, Mr Lan,” A-Yuan says.
Wei Ying’s blood runs cold, his whole life flashing before his eyes. “A-Yuan, no—!” he splutters, trying to get the boy to stop.
But A-Yuan forges ahead without a care, voice filled with glee. “Can you marry my Baba please, Mr Lan? Then me and Jingyi can be real, actual brothers and be together forever! And then— And then we can all live happily ever after!”
“That’s enough, A-Yuan!” Wei Ying exclaims. His body feels like it’s on fire and he can hear the blood rushing in his ears. He crouches down to be at eye level with A-Yuan, despite the shakiness of his legs. “Remember what we said about thinking before we speak?”
“Ummm… that we should think before we speak?” A-Yuan blinks his innocent doe eyes up at him like he hasn’t just ruined Wei Ying’s life.
“Exactly,” Wei Ying sighs. But he doesn’t have it in him to get upset or annoyed with his son. “It’s time for you to head into class. Your teacher’s waiting for you.” He kisses A-Yuan on the forehead. “Bye bye, radish. Love you.”
“Bye bye, Baba! Love you too!” A-Yuan gives him a fat, slobbery kiss right back and then skips off to his classroom, hand in hand with Jingyi.
Wei Ying grits his teeth and slowly stands back up. Time to face the music. “I’m so sorry, Lan Zhan. I promise I didn’t put him up to it.” He doesn’t quite have the courage to meet Lan Zhan’s eyes. “He’s been asking questions about families and moms and dads and I don’t know, maybe I didn’t explain things properly. I’m so sorry, Lan Zhan.”
“No need to apologise,” Lan Zhan tells him.
“No, but there is!” Wei Ying insists. “Tell me how I can make it up to you?”
When there’s no response, Wei Ying braces himself and hesitantly looks up. Only to find that for some strange, inexplicable reason, Lan Zhan is smiling. “Let me take you out to dinner, Wei Ying.”
“What?!”
“A date,” Lan Zhan explains, like it isn’t clear enough already. “To make it up to me.”
“But Lan Zhan, I— You—” It seems that all Wei Ying is capable of today is sputtering and making a fool of himself.
Lan Zhan steps closer, still with that amused glint in his eyes, and gently brushes away a strand of hair that’s blown into Wei Ying’s face. “Don’t you want to live happily ever after, Wei Ying?” he asks.
Wei Ying feels like he’s died and gone straight to heaven.

marital customs
by shijieswife
M, WIP, 2k, Wangxian
Summary: Cangse, with the growing up on a mountain under the hand of an immortal cultivator who had not descended in several hundred years, often has not a clue, about a single one of the customs down the mountain. She has very little idea of customs, or respect for them, despite her decades living down from the mountain. And this, unlike other things, is something Changze has no experience in either - the art of dealing with suitors for your first born child’s hand. Kay's comments: Ah, I am so in love with stories where Wei Wuxian's parents live!! And get to see him grow up!! And get to see him fall in love and tease him about it!! And also get to look out for him that he's getting treated right by his Lan boyfriend he has!! A very cute and very funny story and I can't wait to see Lan Wangji actually meeting the parents. Excerpt: So, of course, when their sweet little boy comes to them, all blushing and sappy smiles, she tells him “Ah, A-Ying, you know we don’t need to deal with all those formalities.” “Mama, it’s Lan Zhan,” A-Ying says. “I told him we should just elope - we’re not even doing a proper wedding, anyways! Lan Qiren’s made a rule on that big rock, about that, you know - but, Lan Zhan said I deserve all the respect he can give, and apparently that includes asking my family for their permission.” Another thing Cangse has never understood - the tabooness of inter class marriage. Arbitrary divisions - her, considered high class, just because some immortal taught her a few kicks and talismans, even though she knew she had been found discarded, an offering to any beasts roaming the forest. Had she grown up here, she would have been considered the lowest of the low, not even worthy of talking to a servant of Changze’s standing - who, as things stood now, had risen above his station by marrying and having a child with her. So what, if Gusu Lan’s precious jade was getting married to a son of a servant?
pov cangse sanren, canon divergence, cangse sanren and wei changze live, no sunshot campaign, meeting the parents, fluff and humor, protective parents, parent-child relationship, happy ending, marriage, implied sexual content

----
Lan Wangji didn't know where the rumor came from or how A-Yuan had heard about it but he supposed it wouldn't harm anything to give in (It had nothing to do with his son's pleading gaze, honestly it didn't it did).
The house from the rumor, if Lan Wangji is thinking of the right one, was just a few blocks away from the usual path they took home after trick or treating. It wouldn't be that out of the way.
"Alright. We can stop by that house on the way back."
A-Yuan screeched in excitement, "Yay! Jingyi is gonna be so jealous!" He hopped up and down, the bunny ears on his head flapping.
Lan Wangji really hoped this guy was as nice as the rumors made him seem. He'd hate to see his son disappointed.
---
The man was definitely as nice as the rumors said, he was also absolutely stunning.
Lan Wangji didn't speak much on a normal day but as soon as the man, Wei Ying, he'd introduced himself as, opened the door, all words fled Lan Wangji's brain except four–
'Oh no, he's hot.'
It got even worse (better) when A-Yuan eagerly wished the man a happy birthday and gave him a bunny drawing he made, gaining a bright, beautiful smile.
(A-Yuan informed him it would be rude to wish the man a happy birthday yet not get him anything. Lan Wangji wasn't gonna spend money on a stranger. They compromised on a drawing.)
"Aw, thank you! I will put this on my fridge! Front and center!" Wei Ying beamed, gently setting the drawing down on a small table by the door, "As a thank you, why don't you take a toy as well as some candy? If your dad doesn't mind, that is." Wei Ying glanced at him with a questioning look.
A-Yuan turned wide eyes up at him, expression pleading, "Please, please, please?"
How could he possibly say no when both A-Yuan and Wei Ying were looking at him like that?
"Mn."
A-Yuan jumped up and down with excitement, turning to Wei Ying with a happy grin.
"Okay, little bunny! Pick whichever you like." Wei Ying said as he grabbed a small bucket hiding by the door, it had a bunch of colorful little toys in it. Varying from, what Lan Wangji can identify, bubble blowers, tiny skateboards, small stuffed animals, bouncy balls, and a lot more. It definitely wasn't a small amount. He wondered how much Wei Ying spends on Halloween every year, considering he also had a big variety of candy on offer as well.
A-Yuan took a long moment, seriously debating which toy he wanted, eyes flickering back and forth between items before they apparently landed on the one he wanted.
A small stuffed butterfly.
"A great choice!" Wei Ying praised, his beautiful smile once more appearing. Lan Wangji would be lucky to leave this house with his heart intact. He wasn't sure if he even wanted to.
A-Yuan grinned right back, face flushed with happiness.
Wei Ying noticed his continued staring and looked at him with a, was that flirty?, wink.
"Now, Lan-gege was it? Thank you for bringing this cute little rabbit to my door. It was a wonderful birthday present!" Wei Ying ruffled A-Yuan's hair, right in front of the hood with bunny ears he wore, "Don't tell the others kids but—" he leaned down to stage whisper, "You're costume is my favorite of the night."
A-Yuan lights up like a lightbulb, clutching onto his new butterfly shyly. Lan Wangji felt a spark of pride at the words, they spent a long time debating which costume to get. The adorable bunny costume won by a wide margin.
"Really?"
"Definitely! It reminds me of my own little bunnies." He admits brightly.
"You have bunnies!?" A-Yuan all but screeched, immediately shooting his father a sheepishly look of apology afterwards.
"I do." Wei Ying shifted the bowl in his hands, letting it rest against one hip, "Two of them. They came as a pair, I couldn't separate them even if I wanted to." He laughed, a tingle of something Lan Wangji would rather not identify, but it felt warm and sharp, shot through him at the sound.
"Woah. Can I see them?"
Wei Ying glanced at Lan Wangji, then behind him, Lan Wangji didn't have to look to know there were more kids coming up the drive. He could hear their shouting and laughter getting closer, parents calling after them to be careful, they unfortunately needed to get going.
"Maybe another time, if Wei Ying is okay with that." Lan Wangji offered before he knew it.
Wei Ying was more than okay with that. As soon as the words left Lan Wangji's mouth, Wei Ying was already nodding, "Yes! I would love that! Uhm–" he looked once more at the approaching children, "Why don't you come over tomorrow afternoon? I work from home, so it won't be a problem." He said with a soft laugh, "And you already know where I live!"
Lan Wangji was supposed to have a meeting in the afternoon. He barely had to think before he replied.
"Of course. We will be here around 12."
A-Yuan nodded as well, happily taking his dad's hand as he made way for the other kids.
"And Wei Ying?" Lan Wangji said as Wei Ying started to turn towards the children crowding his doorway, "Happy birthday." he added, earning himself a truly breathtaking smile before gently tugging A-Yuan back down the driveway.
Maybe some rumors are worth listening to after all, he thought as he made a mental note to reschedule his meeting tomorrow, this one definitely was.

1. I'm looking for a fic that's during the Cloud Recesses study arc where, WWX I think, found out Wen Chao couldn't read and started teaching him. I think a couple of the other kids started helping him, MianMian maybe? I can't remember much but they definitely helped him learn how to read and became friends. TIA

2. hello!! All good? I'm looking for a collection of one shots, and I can't find it, I read it a little while ago but I remember a one shot, where Jiang Cheng and Wei Ying were discussing the fact that Wei Ying had saved the heirs of the sects in cave and Jin Ling was listening and Wei Ying was saying that if he hadn't saved the heirs Jin Ling wouldn't exist and Jiang Cheng said something like, Whatever.... Honestly, I don't even remember the tags, but Jiang Cheng and Wei Ying realizing that Jin Ling had heard, Wei Ying asks what Jin Ling wants. @sweettiebah

3. Hello !! Ive read this fanfic a while ago and I have multiple ss of it since i like to save memorable parts of the fic but now i cant remember it anymore </3 i dont remember the synopsis but there was a scene where Lwj and Wwx were in an inn while out night hunting, and wwx suspected the person serving them to have poisoned lwj, wwx got really angry and threatened the guy to the max
quote:
Wei Wuxian slammed him against the wall again, cutting off his rapid ramblings and jostling his fractured arm. "Your stories bore me," he spoke lowly, peering his head around slightly so as to almost look into Heng She's face. He still had yet to acknowledge Lan Wangji's presence. "Tell me why you poisoned the tea, or I will hang you in the street by your intestines, ripped open to let the crows feed on your liver." @jingyisbff

He rode wwx that night then let him knot him for 3x. They were on a date and lwj bought some robes for a girl the confronts wwx that he wants a daughter.... Thats all Ive read. I want to read the whole thread but my app closed. 💔 Can you guys help me with it? I cant find it anymore.

5. Hi, I need help finding a fic I’m pretty sure I’ve seen recommended on here a couple years ago.
I don’t remember the title or the author. It was on AO3. It was an Alternative Universe fic where WWX is an art student (and lived in a dorm with the Wen siblings) and LWJ has a very active but discreet sex life. WangXian know each other but they’re not together. Eventually they start sleeping with each other (WWX doesn’t realize LWJ actually likes him and he’s not just another hookup). There is also a secondary plot about one of LWJ’s past hookups stalking and tormenting them at a club or party at some point? T
his is all I can remember, unfortunately. I hope to reach someone who knows which fic this is by asking on here. WangXian nation, do your thing! 🙏
FOUND? show me a quiver, give me tonight by spookykingdomstarlight (E, 115k, wangxian, lwj/others, communication failure, mutual pining, artists, demisexual wwx, angst w/ happy ending) It doesn't match exactly but some details do

6. For fic finder, a fic I read a good while back.
It was one of those “jgs magically spies on the burial mounds to get people to hate wwx and the remnants” but in this one wwx and lwj did the “a-yuan is birthed from wwx” thing and the people spying believe it. Lqr passes out for a bit and lxc and jc start planning a wedding since lwj apparently deflowered wwx. I think it was completed
FOUND! Assumptions by draechaeli (T, 50k, WangXian, Canon Divergence, Mainly Novel with a few CQL and Donghua bits, Somebody Lives/Not Everyone Dies, Adoption, Adoption but WWX birthed them all, not mpreg, Not Established Relationship, Fluff, Canon-Typical Violence, Fix-It, gender non-conforming titles)

7. Hello! Here's one I've read a dozen times and would swear I have bookmarked, but now I can't find it. Basically, LZ is a courtesan/assassin who's sent by JGS to seduce and kill the powerful Yiling Patriarch. Meng Yao is working with LZ, although he has his own plans against JGS, of course. WWX later realizes LZ's brother is alive and looking for him, so he brings them together. (By the way, are you thinking of adding a Courtesan compilation? There are plenty of good ones to rec!) Thank you! @ladysalieri (we don't have a courtesan au specific comp but we do have a royalty one that includes a few! ^^ - Mod C)

9. hello! i'm looking for a fic from lwj's pov. he runs into wwx (dark) in yiling i think, after burial mounds but before his new body. lwj is horrified by how bad he looks and convinces him to go to an inn (wwx mean), they have sex. during this lwj realizes that wwx's bones are all broken from his fall in the burial mounds and he is holding them stable with resentful energy. he can't heal them, but the resentful energy is working as a stopgap. possibly of it's own volition? bittersweet? thx! @saydams

10. Hello!! I love this blog, where I find fics to read!! A few days ago, I asked someone to find me a fic, but I'm here again because I remembered med and another fic that I loved reading, but currently can't find.
The things I remember: Wangxian has an spiritual connection, which is why the golden core transfer does not occur (and it is qing who informs Wei Ying of the connection, as Madam Yu knew and gave tea to undo the connection but it did not work ) and if I'm not mistaken Yanli is the one who told Wei Ying that the spiritual connection no longer exists (which is obviously wrong)
If you can't find it, I ask you to recommend something similar.
Thank you ❤💛🖤 @sweettiebah

14. Hi! For next fic finder, could you help me find a modern wangxian au with combination of arranged marriage, marriage of convenient (i think it is), and contract marriage. YZY arranged a marriage between WWX and LWJ for a bussiness cooperation. WWX agreed to that so he can get away from the Jiang (especially YZY) and to make his own carrier. Then LWJ and WWX make a contract to make the marriage last until 2 years and decided if they want to keep the marriage or not. I think LWJ playing his guqin and WWX is used to that and when 2 years almost up, WWX didnt want to get divorce. The fic is focused about them getting to know each other. I think thats all i can remember. I read that in 2021 so the detail is kinda patchy. If you dont know the fic at least a confirmation that im not the only one that ever read this. Thank you! @idontknowwhattowriteforusername
Hi, im #14. Unfortunately its not the fic that iam searching for. The one that iam serching for focused on wangxian, other characters barely appears. Even the jiangs only gets mentioned. Wwx didnt work for Jiang, i think he is graphic design freelancer? The agrement for divorce is between the two of them, their family didnt know about their agreement. They choose how long they stay together before divorce after they think that the project between their family is finished so their divorce wont effect the project. WWX even has a plan after their divorce to open his own office. If i remember corectly, WWX realize he didnt want to get divorced is a few days before the day of their divorce. Like he is in his room and thinking that after their divorce, he cant listening to LWJ playing his guqin and spend their days together and he didnt want that.
I really hope i didnt mix several fic together. Thank you!

20. Hello! I’m looking for a fic where during the Sunshot Campaign, Wei Wuxian was able to tame the Xuanwu, resulting in victory. However, he wasn’t fully able to control its bloodlust so it was sequestered onto an island in Lotus Pier.
However, he leaves one day for a brief visit to Jiang Cheng and Jiang Yanli, JGS paid a child to visit the island and the child is killed. This causes WWX to go with the Xuanwu into the water surrounding the island and he disappears for many years.
Later on, Jin Ling ends up trying to prove himself by going into the forest surrounding this island (which has since filled with resentful energy). And finds that WWX has come back and the Xuanwu has been purified.
I’m not sure if it’s been deleted??

The proposal
"How do you get married?" Wei Ying asked as he scooped porridge to his mouth.
Jiang Fengmian choked on his scalding hot coffee and started to cough. Yanli, bless her, pushed a napkin towards him. Yu ZiYuan frowned at Wei Ying from where she was feeding baby Jiang Cheng.
"You don't. You don't get married for another twenty years. Not under my roof."
"But Lan Zhan said we should get married so I can go live with him."
Jiang Fengmian dabbed the tears off his eyes.
"Don't you think you should wait for your mama and papa to come back before you get married? Marriage is a big decision, and you are, if you don't mind me saying so, kinda small."
"I am this many big." Wei Ying showed three fingers.
"No, add one more finger." Yu ZiYuan showed him. "You can add another one from next week after your birthday."
After much confusion between his thumb and pinky, Wei Wuxian held up the correct number of fingers.
"This many, auntie?"
"Yes. But you need to be able to show all your fingers and all your toes too before you can get married."
"Why?"
"That's the law."
"What's the law?"
Before Yu ZiYuan put a foot into the trap, Jiang Fengmian intervened. They'd spend the entire day at the breakfast table if they got into a circle of questions and answers with Wei Ying. Even two adults combined were not enough to answer all the whats and whys of an almost five years old.
"Hurry up and finish your porridge, A-Ying. You don't want to be late for school, do you?"
Wei Ying considered his options. On one hand, as soon as A-Cheng was finished with his bottle, he could be enticed into an exciting game of catching Wei Ying's fingers. On the other hand, Lan Zhan had pretty-pleased him to come to school early so they could talk some more. He could play with A-Cheng later. Wei Ying made up his mind and started to shovel porridge into his mouth. The rest of the breakfast was uneventful. Yu ZiYuan burped A-Cheng as she kissed her husband goodbye. Jiang Fengmian herded the children out of the door before they could go back for another goodbye kiss for the baby.
In the evening, once Wei Ying was done telling his parents all about his new friend and they were done patiently explaining to him how come it was still morning where they were even though it was late evening where A-Ying was, Yu ZiYuan took the phone.
"Your son," she looked specifically at Cangse Sanren, "is planning to get married."
As expected, Cangse Sanren burst into a fit of laughter. Her husband was less amused.
"I hope he's not bothering any poor girl in his new school."
"It's a boy. And from what I could gather, the proposal came from him."
Cangse Sanren wiped her eyes.
"Ah, puppy love. Remember how Fengmian was so besotted with you? So cute."
Jiang Fengmian felt warmth rising in his cheeks. There were some obvious disadvantages with having childhood friends who were witnesses to his early childhood transgressions.
"We were in middle school!" He hissed. "And I didn't ask her to marry me until uni."
Yu ZiYuan patted her husband's cheek to comfort his delicate sensibilities. Missy Jiang still had the same thin face as always. She tried to divert the conversation.
"But good for the kid, though. I was worried A-Ying would have a hard time making friends."
Cangse Sanren turned her head to look at her husband.
"Remind me to buy something for the kid before we return. After all, it's our son-in-law."
She broke into a fresh bout of cackles. Wei ChangZe smiled helplessly before bidding goodbye.
Jiang Fengmian found Wei Ying and Jiang Yanli taking turns to blow raspberries on a giggling Jiang Cheng's soft tummy. Soon, A-Cheng managed to grasp a pudgy fistful of Yanli's hair, and Fengmian had to extricate Yanli from a protesting baby.
"Come on baobao, bedtime." Yu ZiYuan picked him up. Jiang Cheng had a half an hour window after his dinner when if he fell asleep, he would sleep through the night until morning. A minute past that he'd get overstimulated and cranky. Yu ZiYuan carried him to his bedroom. Wei Ying followed her with his eyes.
Jiang Fengmian cleared his throat.
"Do you miss your mama too, A-Ying? She'll be back soon."
"No, no. I am not a baby." Wei Ying made a face. "Lan Zhan says I am going to be the mama for his rabbits. I don't know how to, though. I don't think I can carry a rabbit like the way auntie carries A-Cheng. Or give them baths," He confided.
Jiang Fengmian struggled to find answers.
"That's why you need to wait until you are a grown-up," Yanli chirped in unexpectedly. "You can carry two rabbits when you are old."
Jiang Fengmian smiled gratefully at his daughter.
"Twooo?" Obviously, the amazing feat of carrying two rabbits simultaneously blew Wei Ying's mind away.
"Even three, if you start working out and become strong." Jiang Yanli said sagely.
Wei Ying remained awestruck at the idea of carrying so many rabbits in his arms throughout bathtime. Jiang Fengmian switched the overhead light off and sat down on a chair between Wei Ying and Jiang Yanli's beds with the storybook in his hand, ready to pick up from where he had left it off. Wei Ying squirmed under his blanket as five-year-olds often did before bedtime. Jiang Yanli kept yawning but forced herself to stay awake for the ending.
The next day, when Yu ZiYuan picked up Wei Ying from school, he fished out a folded piece of paper from his pocket excitedly.
"Sit still, A-Ying. I am trying to buckle you in."
But A-Ying wasn't paying attention.
"Look at this! Lan Zhan drew this for me!"
Yu ZiYuan clicked the buckle into place and squinted at the paper. It was a red and black rounded blob.
"Er, that's a lovely- , um, ladybug?"
"Nooo," Wei Ying giggled at her ignorance. "That's me."
"Mnnn, an artist, eh? A bohemian? A debonair rogue? Is that how he lured my poor, innocent darling?" Cangse Sanren pretended to faint over videocall that evening.
"I doubt a five years old is indulging in cigars and absinthe wearing a dressing gown in a studio, my love."
"What an old-fashioned idea you have about artists, ChangZe!" A postgraduate in art history, Yu ZiYuan couldn't let the comment slide. But Wei ChangZe only smiled.
Jiang Fengmian interrupted.
"We are taking the kids to the beach tomorrow."
"Enjoy. I wish we could take some time off on weekends as well." Cangse Sanren sighed.
"That's not fair. You deserve some time off. You're working too hard."
"Well, it's a critical moment in the research. We are almost there. Anyway, we are travelling to attend Xingchen and Song Lan's wedding in California next month. That is something to look forward to."
The next day, Yu ZiYuan was woken up by soft hands patting her arm before the crack of dawn. She grabbed the squirming, squealing mass and spoke in a stage whisper,
"Fengmian, I caught a mouse!"
The squirming mass in her embrace giggled.
"I am not a mouse. I am Wei Ying."
"No, you are a mouse. Wei Ying is still sleeping in his bed because he's a good boy."
Wei Ying continued giggling. Jiang Fengmian spoke in a sleepy voice,
"Just feed the mouse to the cat, my lady, then go back to sleep."
"No, no. Don't feed me to a cat!"
Yu ZiYuan hid her smile in Wei Ying's curls. They didn't have any cats. The only pet in the house was a shy betafish in a small aquarium.
Wei Ying calmed down.
"When are we going to the beach? Lan Zhan will be waiting for me."
"Let's sleep a bit more, darling, ok? It's still dark. And we can't wake up A-Cheng too early or he'll cry."
Wei Ying nodded and then closed his eyes. Soon enough, his eyes were closed and his breathing became regular.
They all overslept that morning. As a result, they were quite late when they finally reached their destination.
Jiang Fengmian started to carry everything to the beach. But he almost tripped when an excited Wei Ying got in his way.
"Come on, A-Ying. Let's go buy ice cream."
"Yay! I want a chocolate one."
"Strawberry, please." Jiang Yanli started to dig at the sand with her toy spade. Jiang Fengmian spread the beach towel and put a bottle of water on each corner to stop it from blowing away in the wind. A woman slightly older than him walked towards them, carrying a picnic basket in one hand and holding a child's hand in the other. The child was about Wei Ying's age, cute with chubby cheeks in a blue t-shirt. They both had light honey golden eyes.
"Perfect," Jiang Fengmian thought to himself. A potential friend for A-Ying. He smiled up to the woman.
"Nice day, isn't it? I was worried it might get cloudy."
Jiang Cheng, who had drifted off in his sling, shifted and let out a small cry of protest. The other child moved closer to his mother.
"A shy one! Pity!" Jiang Fengmian thought to himself.
The woman put a reassuring arm around her son's shoulder.
"This is Lan Zhan."
Bingo! Jiang Fengmian observed his nephew's potential suitor with a new interest. It was hard to believe that the shy child hiding his face against his mother's midsection was actually forward enough to propose to Wei Ying in recess.
"Hello, A-Zhan. This is A-Li, and A-Cheng." Jiang Fengmian pointed at his children. "My wife has taken our nephew for ice-cream."
However, it seemed Lan Zhan had already spotted said nephew because with a sharp cry, he sprinted off like an arrow to where Wei Ying and Yu ZiYuan were walking back carrying icecreams.
Wei Ying must have noticed him too because he dropped his icecream and ran towards him. Yu ZiYuan made a split second decision to follow them.
She caught them by their arms and dragged both of them towards Jiang Fengmian and Lan Zhan's mother.
"A-Zhan, why did you run off like that?" Mrs Lan admonished.
"A-Ying, that's dangerous. Don't run..." Jiang Fengmian started as well.
"Look what you kids make me do! The icecreams..." Yu ZiYuan lamented.
But everyone came to a halt when Lan Zhan grabbed Wei Ying's hand and spoke with pride and admiration,
"This is XianXian."
Jiang Fengmian caught Yu ZiYuan's eye and nodded. She understood.
"Oh my, you must be A-Ying's A-Zhan. He has been talking about you for weeks now."
Lan Zhan nodded solemnly. It was absurdly adorable to see a child his age act with so much gravity.
Yu ZiYuan turned to his mom.
"We don't know how to thank your little boy. You see, poor A-Ying had to move in with us because his parents are on a research trip. We were so worried he'd have a bad time getting along with his new classmates. But, it seems like A-Zhan here was a perfect angel."
Mrs Lan asked a pertinent question at this point.
"Why does he call him XianXian?"
Jiang Fengmian extended his arm to ruffle through Wei Ying's curls.
"His courtesy name is Wei Wuxian. A-Ying is more of a nickname."
Wei Ying made a noise of dissatisfaction and jerked his head away. But he didn't let go of Lan Zhan's hand. Soon, the boys were in their own world.
Jiang Yanli was the first to remember.
"Mom, the icecreams?"
Yu ZiYuan sighed.
"Those brats! I'll go get some more. Would you like some as well?" She asked Mrs Lan.
Mrs Lan shook her head,
"Thanks, but my brother-in-law is bringing along my eldest child and his friends. Maybe I should wait."
"Oh, don't worry. I'll grab a few extra." Yu ZiYuan started walking towards the icecream van. But she stopped midway. Lan Zhan was staring at the adults defiantly,
"XianXian and I are getting married today."
"Oh no, you aren't! You two are collectively not even ten yet. No one is getting married until they are at least twenty-one." Yu ZiYuan put her hands on her hips.
Little Lan Zhan looked at his mom imploringly for support. But Mrs Lan looked like she was too shocked to speak.
Jiang Fengmian spoke in a soothing tone,
"Why don't we talk about it later? I mean, you still have to meet A-Ying's mama and papa and ask them for permission."
Lan Zhan slowly nodded while maintaining eye contact with Jiang Fengmian. What a curious little boy! Soon, a man leading three other children joined them. One of the kids looked like an older and smiley-er version of Lan Zhan. Jiang Fengmian knew the other two. They belonged to the Nie family. HuaiSang was at Wei Ying's age. The moment Lan Zhan spotted him, he put himself in front of Wei Ying.
"Saozi, what happened?" The frowning man asked.
"We met A-Zhan's XianXian."
"Oh, hello." The boy who was most definitely Lan Zhan's older brother waved. "I am Lan Xichen."
Wei Ying waved back. There was another round of introductions.
"So you are really real? Uncle kept saying you are just Lan Zhan's imagination." Lan Xichen sounded curious.
"Xichen!" Both his mom and his uncle exclaimed. Both the uncle and the youngest nephew were exhibiting matching pairs of reddened ears.
Jiang Fengmian laughed.
"No, he's real alright. Very much so. You can touch him to be sure if you want."
"NOOO!" Lan Zhan was standing in front of Wei Ying with his arms outstretched in a protective stance. " Xiongzhang, don't touch my Wei Ying."
"Okay, didi." Lan Xichen spoke in a soothing voice.
Jiang Fengmian sighed. This will certainly be an interesting summer.

Lan Wangji getting drunk, but this time, terrorizing poor Sizhui.
Lan Wangji had been trying to increase his alcohol tolerance, so he indulged in a sip or two per meal with Wei Wuxian. Though at the beginning that was enough to get him tipsy, as days passed by, even those effects diminished.
Which led to overconfidence, which led to him trying a full cup and getting completely drunk.
Stubborn as always, as soon as he regained consciousness, he walked out from the Jingshi into the Cloud Recesses main compound, Wei Wuxian trying ineffectually to herd him back inside. A drunk Lan Wangji looked very much like a sober Lan Wangji, it was only his words or childish behavior that gave him away, so as to not gather attention, Wei Wuxian could only walk next to his husband, in whatever search mission they were into.
Lan Wangji checked the dining hall, then the library, and finally Lan Sizhui’s room - huffing in annoyance when he discovered it was also devoid of his son. He walked to the only other place he could think of: the rabbits' meadow
Sizhui was in fact there, with Jingyi and a couple of his friends.
Everyone scrambled to their feet when they watched Lan Wangji approach, bowing with a chorus of "Hanguang-Jun."
"It's alright kids!" Wei Wuxian breathlessly called from where he was jogging behind his husband. "You can sit down."
As soon as everyone settled down, Lan Wangji also lowered himself, gracefully kneeling down in front of Sizhui, holding his face between his hands.
"H-hanguan-Jun?" He stuttered, turning redder by the second. He tried to gently dislodge himself, but his father's hold was unmovable.
"Aiyo, Lan Zhan, let him go. Look how hard you're squishing him!"
Lan Wangji slackened a little his hold, but kept making Sizhui do funny faces, kneading his cheeks to his heart's content. By this point, everyone was aware Hanguang-Jun was drunk. They were trying their best to hide their laughs behind their sleeves, more than anything in commiseration to their friend, but they weren’t being very successful.
Sizhui turned pleading eyes on Wei Wuxian, but he only shrugged, knowing it was impossible to stop Lan Wangji if he was set on doing something.
As for Lan Wangji, maybe he had been feeling sad because Sizhui was starting to become more independent with each passing day, or maybe he and Wei Wuxian had been talking about Sizhui's childhood. Whichever the reason, he was feeling melancholic.
He finally stopped with the kneading, but before Sizhui could breathe in relief, Lan Wangji held his face once again, making intense eye contact.
"You're still my baby."
Sizhui’s whole face turned red.
"Father," he whined faintly, already planning where he was going to move after all this ended.
Then, to everyone's absolute horror, silent tears started to fall down Lan Wangji's cheeks.
"Baba, no. What." Squeaked a panicking Sizhui, hands hovering awkwardly in the air, unsure on what to do. Unbothered by his fretting, Lan Wangji started tracing the length of his forehead ribbon with his fingers, then fluffed up his bangs and finally settled his hands on his shoulders, cheeks still wet.
"You have grown so much. I am proud of you."
This time it was Sizhui's turn to cry. It was not like his father had never told him that before, either with words or approving glances, but watching him tear up had gotten him emotional as well. At his tears, Lan Wangji threw an alarmed look to his husband.
"Wei Ying"
If his hope had been for Wei Wuxian to do something to calm down their son, then he was going to be disappointed, because he was also sobbing into his hands.
"Xian-gege. A-die, don't cry." Sizhui said, which, of course, only made Wei Wuxian cry even harder. So at the end, the three of them ended up hugging and crying together, until Lan Wangji passed out and Wei Wuxian had to carry him back home

Qiongqi Beast, one among the four legendary primordial beasts of China - Namesake of Qiongqi Path (MDZS) - The foreshadow of Wei Ying’s death. - Illustration by Shan Zhe, published in Guan Shan Hai, the compiled and edited version of the OG Shanhai Jing, by Hunan Literature and Art Publishing House.
Recently I got my hand on Shanhai Jing (Classic of Mountains and Seas), the 2200+ years old classical text on Chinese fantastical flora, fauna, beasts, strange people, and gods. Qiongqi is counted among Shanhai Jing menagerie. Below is my translation of the description of Qiongi Beast directly from Hunan’s Shanhai Jing.
窮奇 (Qiongqi)
- Text directly from the 2200+ year old Shanhai Jing: Qiongqi has the shape of a tiger with wings. It eats human, starting from the head. Those who it eats all have their hair unbound. It lives North of the Peach Dog’s den.
- Modern Anthropologist Notes (by Hunan Publishing House’s editing team):
1/ Qiongqi beast has the shape of a winged tiger. It is a vicious man eater. When it eats, it starts from the head. Those who are eaten by it all have their hair unbound.
2/ Qiongqi also appears on Xishan Jing (Classic of Western Mountains), where it is described as ox-like, with porcupine quills, and barks like a dog. This description is vastly different from the one in Shanhai Jing.
3/ Qiongqi is mentioned in many ancient texts. In the Records of the Five Emperors, Qiongqi is said to be the hideous, good-for-nothing son of Shaohao (son of the Yellow Emperor, one of the three legendary ancient emperors of China) (*). It is said to destroy those who are loyal and faithful and fawn over those who are deceitful and perverse.
(*: In other words, Records of the Five Emperor claims that Qiongqi was a human prince who fell to beasthood out of wickedness)
4/ Both the Records of the Five Emperor and Shenyi Jing (Classic of Strange Gods) agree that Qionqi is an evil beast that has completely reversed concept of good and evil. Shenyi Jing notes that Qionqi eats those who are good, honest, and loyal and will aid wicked liars.
- End Translation -
 .....................................................
Symbol of Qiongqi in MDZS:
If you have read MDZS, then there’s probably no need to repeat the name Qiongqi Path. The symbolism is readily apparent.
Qiongqi Path is the site where Wei Ying was repeatedly forced onto a death path by Jin schemes. The first time was when he rescued the Wen remnants (who were forced to move from a neutral territory Ganquan  甘泉 to Qiongqi Path, controlled by Jin after the Sunshot campaign, as per the novel). And the second time was during Jin Zixun’s failed ambush.
In other words, Wei Ying’s death was foreshadowed in the name of the location itself. Qiongqi beast destroys and eats the good, honest, loyal person with hair unbound. It eats from the head down, symbolizing the loss of agency and ability to call for help or argue the person’s own case. Wei Ying was symbolically eaten by Qiongqi.
If you want to look further, there is also correlation between Qiongqi’s origin as a human prince associated with the color yellow who fell to beasthood out of wickedness and the Jin’s origin as a cultivator House founded by royalty and whose primary color is yellow.

For a prompt, could you do an AU of Spilled Pearl's where Lan Qiren is the older one by many generations and Wen Rouhan is a young upstart, Maybe even the youngest in his generation.
ao3
“I’m having a problem with one of my students,” Lan Qiren said.
“Oh?” Baoshan Sanren said, and put down her cup of tea. “This is going to be good.”
Cangse Sanren, the honorable eldest disciple seated beside her honored teacher, sniggered.
(Lan Qiren had never regretted saving her life, even though it had nearly cost him his own, even though bringing her back to her master’s mountain and fighting through the prohibition on her return had led to the highly singular sequence of events that had brought him to his present position as the mysterious near-immortal of the Lan sect that spent most of his time travelling but who appeared like clockwork every ten years to teach a summer’s worth of lectures at the Cloud Recesses.
But that didn’t mean he didn’t sometimes want to strangle her.)
“I thought you’d seen it all by now,” she said, her eyes curving into crescents even as her master cackled, the sound of her croaking slipping out of the strictly human towards the end. “What is it this one? He can’t be any more mischievous than my A-Ying.”
Lan Qiren had a headache just thinking about Wei Wuxian, and not just because the rascal was currently married to one of Lan Qiren’s favorite grandnephews (several times removed). If they weren’t so blindingly happy together, he would have objected long ago on the grounds of Lan Wangji being far too good to be wasted on a brat like Wei Wuxian, no matter how brilliant an inventor the latter had turned out to be.
“If your child is second in shamelessness, no one would ever claim to be first,” Lan Qiren said dryly, and ignored Cangse Sanren’s sniggered “That’s my monkey!” “But as it happens, this one is also a genius.”
“A genius?” Baoshan Sanren asked. “And here I thought you were going to say he was another Nie Huaisang.”
“…I thought we agreed you would never mention that name in my presence again.”
“You agreed,” she said. “I didn’t. Why would I ever stop mentioning the one true blemish on your otherwise pristine teaching record?”
“Mm, indeed. On the same subject, how is Yanling Daoren doing? Recovering?”
Cangse Sanren caught her teacher’s hand and lowered it back down to the table before it hit Lan Qiren in the face. She was still smiling, completely unaffected by the interplay between immortal and near-immortal – though he supposed, in fairness, that she was used to it by now.
“Tell us about this student of yours,” she said. “What’s the problem? Is he terribly arrogant?”
“Well, he’s a Wen. Arrogance comes with the territory.”
“That’s what happens when your sect is founded by a doctor turned general, I suppose.”
“Nasty little thug,” Baoshan Sanren sniffed. Lan Qiren wasn’t sure he believed her, less because he had any particular respect for Wen Mao than because he knew that the old immortal hadn’t had a nice word  to say about anyone for as long as he’d known her…and that was quite a while by now.
“His name is Wen Ruohan,” Lan Qiren said, deciding to ignore her. “And sad to say, he’s every bit as brilliant as his arrogance suggests. Even your Wei Wuxian has accepted him into his personal classes.”
Cangse Sanren’s eyebrows arched, suitably impressed. Her son preferred inventing new calamities to teaching, and spending time with his husband over either of those, so he severely limited the number of students he accepted at any given time, allowing in only the truly talented (or family, of course). Of course, given his terrible memory, he could also be doing that so he’d be able to remember what all of them were called…
“He’s one of the younger ones in his generation, but he’s already an accomplished master of arrays,” Lan Qiren continued. “He’s invented a fair share of them, and his cultivation level is quite impressive, especially given his youth. Beyond his academic accomplishments, he’s well-mannered and charming, thoughtful and quite clever, a good conversationalist, with a decent number of achievements in night-hunting and the like under his belt…”
“I’d ask about his morality, but you’ve already said he’s a Wen.”
“He’s not as bad as all that. He has a younger brother he’s quite protective of, and that seems to have stimulated his desire to be a good role model. Even if his understanding of convention morality is – ah – imperfect, then at minimum he is willing to abide by the usual requirements of common social mores.”
“All right,” Baoshan Sanren said. “Now that you’re done singing his praises, will you tell us what the problem with him is?"
Lan Qiren contemplated throwing his teacup at her face. It would probably be suicide, but oh, how satisfying a death it would be...
Cangse Sanren removed his cup with the excuse of refilling it. “Go on, Qiren,” she said encouragingly. “Tell us the issue you’ve been having.”
“Well,” Lan Qiren said. “He appears to be…infatuated with me.”
“Big deal. If I had to count all the students you’ve had that’ve been hot for teacher, I wouldn’t have years enough to do it,” Baoshan Sanren grumbled. “Just because he’s been obvious enough for you to notice doesn’t make him special.”
“That’s not the issue,” Lan Qiren said, and almost on cue Cangse Sanren got it, which he knew because she started laughing hard enough that she had to put his cup to the side to avoid knocking it over. “Your reaction is unnecessary.”
“Oh no,” Cangse Sanren said, cackling, and Baoshan Sanren starting grinning ghoulishly as well. “It’s very necessary, you’ll find. Very necessary…tell me, are you actually sleeping with him, or do you just want to?”
“It would be monstrously inappropriate!”
“Just want to, then. You’re too repressed, my friend – if he wants to and you want to, what’s the problem?”
“I’m his teacher.”
“He’s of age, isn’t he? And a Wen to boot, so he’s not about to be intimidated by the fact that you’re more powerful than he is…tell me, is the age gap between you part of the attraction? Does he find how ancient you are unbearably attractive?”
“I hate you,” Lan Qiren informed his dearest friend.
“I think you should go for it,” Baoshan Sanren announced, and Lan Qiren glanced at her with arched eyebrows – she wasn’t the sort of person who encouraged people to do things, old doom-crow that she was no matter the color of her feathers. “It’d be funny when you crash and burn.”
Lan Qiren’s eyes narrowed. “I am not accepting his suit just because you would be entertained by it.”
“No, you’d be accepting his suit because he’s brilliant, well-mannered, and a good conversationalist, and because you’ll have far too much fun putting him in his place on a regular basis while he livens up the wrinkled-up miserable raisin of a life you live. It’s just that it will also be entertaining for me.”
“Once the season passes, you won’t be his teacher any longer,” Cangse Sanren pointed out. “You could offer to allow him to escort you on your travels for a little while – if he agrees, that means he values you above his ambitions, which is a very high compliment for a Wen. And you’ll get to see if you like it.”
“You make it sound like some sort of – spring fling.”
“Autumn fling,” she grinned. “You teach in the summer.”
“Cangse Sanren!”
“Oh, let me have my fun! This is lovely, Qiren. I support you entirely.”
“I came here to be talked out of this, not into it.”
“You came to the wrong place, then,” Baoshan Sanren said, rubbing her chin in a thoughtful way Lan Qiren didn’t trust at all. “You ought to have known better – no, to put it otherwise, you did know better, which means you didn’t really want to be talked out of it after all. This boy must be compelling indeed to get your attention to such a degree in such a short amount of time…”
She grinned, then.
Lan Qiren really didn’t trust that expression.
“What are you smiling about?” he asked suspiciously.
“I think I’d like to meet him.”
“Absolutely not.”
“Wonderful!” Cangse Sanren said, clapping her hands. “We should lure him in. I can set up a night-hunt in the area, separate him from the rest –”
“You are not hunting him down as if he were a weak sheep parted from his flock!”
“So protective. I really must evaluate him for himself –”
“Leave him alone!”
“Does he have the capacity to cultivate to your level, do you think? He must be very promising.”
Lan Qiren wanted to strangle them both, and then maybe himself for crushing on a young man so many generations his junior no matter how bright his eyes were or how jaunty his smile when he tried out the worst of his terrible pick-up lines on Lan Qiren.
Though if he really did manage to make it to Baoshan Sanren’s mountain and back, it would undoubtedly serve as an aid to his cultivation, making it more likely that he would eventually be able to cultivate to a level where he could live alongside Lan Qiren for longer than he might otherwise, if he were not powerful enough…
Lan Qiren huffed in disgust as he realized he had it exactly as bad as the two women cackling in front of him were insisting he did. Why was he friends with them again?
“Because you love us, because we last,” Cangse Sanren said, her eyes twinkling. “Just the way you do. Just give in and let it happen, Qiren – you really do need to live a little. Otherwise, what’s the point of being alive?”

All it took was a simple lie.
Jiang Fengmian was tired of the accusations, of the rumors on the streets, of the scorn from his wife. Ever since he had brought little Wei Ying back from the streets, Jiang Fengmian had to deal with so much stress. But it was worth it. To care for the child of his best friends, it was worth it.
It was true that he loved Cangse. He loved her personality, her laugh, the freedom she represented. But the moment she rejected him, Jiang Fengmian had backed off and stuck with friendship instead. It wouldn’t have worked out between them anyways. Cangse lived her freedom and that was the one thing Jiang Fengmian couldn’t give her. So he was sontent with the friendship and even more so when she proposed to Wei Changze.
The two of them, his most favorite people in the world, would get married and stay in Lotus Pier. They would help him teach his disciples, show them the joys and hardships of life, help him out with the sect.
But that kind of wishful thinking was shattered when he was forced to marry Yu Ziyuan. Jiang Fengmian never wanted her. True, she was a strong, capable woman. But her personality grated against his and he knew he would crumble beneath her. But it was his terrible mother’s wish to see them married and he could not go against her as his father supported the marriage as well.
So he got engaged to Yu Ziyuan and had to get to know her. And she….wasn’t as bad as he thought her to be. Sure, she was volatile but underneath all of that, she was a wonderful woman. That’s what he thought, at least, until he found out that she had forced his friends away from Lotus Pier.
Evidently, rumors about his previous infatuation with Cangse had reached her ears and with his mother’s help, kicked Wei Changze and Cangse Sanren away from him.
Jiang Fengmian grew resentful of the two after that. But perhaps he should have done more to comfort Yu Ziyuan that he didn’t like Cangse that way.
Well, what’s done is done. He can’t change the past. But he can do something right now.
He had found Wei Ying sobbing and on the floor, a red handprint on his cheek with Yu Ziyuan standing over him.
With a shout, he gathered Wei Ying towards him and questioned Yu Ziyuan, “Why did you hit him?!”
The woman scoffed. “Why can’t I? He caused trouble so he should be punished for it.”
“He’s nine! What kind of trouble could he have caused?”
“Does it matter?” She sneered. “You would always have come to this brat’s rescue. Even though you would never do the same for our son! Or am I right? That this brat is your child with that woman!!”
“I have never even touched Cangse in that manner, how dare you! I would never betray Changze like that!!”
“Well how am I supposed to know?! He looks so similar to you! And with the way that that woman flirted, you would think—”
“YU ZIYUAN! Don’t you dare complete that sentence!! There’s a child here!”
“Oh? Why can’t I? That brat deserves to hear what kind of a woman his mother was!”
Jiang Fengmian shook with anger. Without thinking too much, he blurted out something to make her stop. (Something he wished was true.) “Wei Ying is my nephew, San-Niang!! Wei Changze was my half brother! Why wouldn’t I care for the last reminder of him?!”
Silence reigned in the room save for Jiang Fengmian’s enraged breaths and Wei Ying’s sniffling.
“…..What?” Yu Ziyuan breathed. “He’s…..”
Jiang Fengmian just computed what he said. But he would push forward with it. “He’s my nephew. My father had a tryst with a woman and Changze was born. I never knew until my father had told me so on his deathbed.” Jiang Fengmian could only thank the starts that both his parents were dead and wouldn’t be able to contest against this. “I never brought it up to save our reputation. Are you happy now?”
Yu Ziyuan still seemed in shock so Jiang Fengmian took this time to retreat.
“I hope I never see anything like this again, my lady.”
He closed the door.

Hello!
I wanted to ask if you know what's canon about Wei Wuxian's parents? I know Cangse Sanren shaving LQR's beard is a thing but I'm not sure about other information I've seen
Like, is it canon that she attend the lectures at the same time young masters did and met JFM and Wei Changze (if he even attended) there? Was JFM really in love with her or is that a rumor Madam Yu believes? Was he trying to court her in his youth? Did wwx's parents elope before or after jfm married? What kind of servant was Wei Changze, something similar to Madam Yu's servants, who have a low status but can fight or did he not fight much at all
I know there's very little information about them and the novel is long but you seem very knowledgeable so I thought it wouldn't hurt to ask if you know the answers to some of these 😅 Of course you don't have to answer all of them, I have no idea if they even can be answered with available information, I hope I'm not being too bothersome!
I joined the fandom this year so I'm still diving deeper into this series (I watched the donghua and read some chapters online) and I love your takes so much! You've opened my eyes on a lot of things and put into words some of my own feelings, big fan!
Hello anon!! I had to take some time to think about it, but I think I have some answers for you.
So what’s specifically canon about Cangse-Sanren and Wei Changze? Well…
We know that she descended from Baoshan-sanren’s mountain as a young woman and met Jiang Fengmian and got along decently well with him, but fell in love with Wei Changze and eloped with him before Jiang Fengmian married Yu Ziyuan or even seemed to be clan leader. We know that she and Wei Changze were nomadic, they traveled around together with a donkey and they later had a baby boy, our dear Wei Wuxian before dying on a nighthunt together near Yiling when Wei Ying was five.
There’s not really a lot that’s known in story, and some of the details repeated are either pretty clearly made up (in the past, no one but Yu Ziyuan, her best friend and her best friend’s son ever make mention of Jiang Fengmian having feelings for Cangse-sanren) but it’s pretty clear from what little we do get is that she was a woman who loved her family, who laughed, who taught her son how to not hold grudges because it would let him fly free, and seemed to be a good, caring person. As for what kind of servant Wei Changze was, there’s just so little about him in the story that we can never be sure. Whatever his role was, he seemed to be able to learn to be a cultivator and became a rogue cultivator with his wife.
As for the parts with her shaving Lan Qiren’s beard, that is pretty much just MXTX talking about things she knew about the characters that had no room in the story. Basically the reason why Lan Qiren holds a grudge is because he, Wei Changze and Jiang Fengmian all went on a nighthunt that went very wrong in part to him being exceptionally rigid, she came in and saved all their lives, then shaved off his beard for putting them in danger. Which is really quite the chain of events there.
They are very interesting for what little we get of them, but there is very little to be gotten. They are fragments of ghosts in Wei Wuxian’s memory, people who he still cares about and misses, but doesn’t remember all that well. Most character details we get are from brief thoughts or Wei Wuxian’s fragmented memories. That being said, they probably were very good parents to him for the short time he had them and the things they were able to impart carried him through both lifetimes.
Thank you for your ask, and your patience! Welcome to MDZS, it’s always fun to have more people here, and I hope you enjoy your time in this fandom. Come stop by again if you ever have more questions or just want to say hi!

I saw prompts so I just gotta put in this funny concept that’s been vibing in my head where my dear meow meow Jiang Cheng gaslights himself into believing Wei Wuxian is completely innocent and that everyone else was the problem and now he and Lan Zhan are the members of “Wei Ying did nothing wrong ever” club and making it everyone else’s problem
Oooh, okay let’s see trying to make this work without making JC horribly OOC was a challenge, hope this works!
It is difficult to remain impartial when faced with Jin Guangshan’s wealth. Oh, the man grieved the loss of his son and daughter-in-law.
He grieved it.
Extensively, with women and alcohol and lavish parties celebrating the defeat of the Yiling Patriarch by the Chief Cultivator.
All while Jiang Cheng lost a sister, a friend and—well, he’d lost Wei Wuxian long before his death, but he’d lost him finally now, hadn’t he?
Stupidly, Jiang Cheng had expected that in a couple years perhaps, Wei Wuxian would be free to leave Yiling and the Wen to their own devices, that there’d be a solution, that he’d get his brother back, but now he knew better—
“And?” he heard Jin Guangyao speak.
For a moment, Jiang Cheng considered making himself known. He hadn’t exactly meant to cross half of Koi Tower in his effort to get away from everything, but he’d done it anyway.
“Same as last week,” another voice replies. “The guy won’t fucking move no matter what I do. You have to hand it to the Founder, the Ghost General marched to his tune.”
What.
No! Wen Ning was gone, his ashes scattered, all the reason Wei Wuxian had even gone on a rampage.
“Father is expecting results,” Jin Guangyao said.
Someone clicked with their tongue. “Well, then maybe he shouldn’t have let Wei Wuxian blow himself up. Would have worked out much better if he’d actually allowed the guy to come to the little brat’s celebration, huh?”
But Wei Wuxian had been invited, he’d been supposed to come, only he had to bring Wen Ning and—and—
Lanling Jin was doing exceptional well for a sect who’d just lost its heir. They still had more than enough heir to spare. And hadn’t mother always needled a-Jie to be meaner to survive this snake pit? Arranging her new betrothal had been a nightmare, Jin Guangshan so keen to take all he could and why wouldn’t he keep taking when everyone let him?
Everyone but Wei Wuxian.
Jiang Cheng needed to get Jin Ling out of here. With Jin Guangyao soon marrying, there was no insurance they’d keep the heir they currently had, that a-Ling would be safe here.
And then—then Jiang Cheng needed to figure out what actually happened, why Wen Ning wasn’t ash, why Wei Wuxian had been pushed into a corner. His sister had died trying to save him and what had Jiang Cheng done? Let them both die.
But first he needed to get away from here and figure out the truth. If it was as hinted at, then Jiang Cheng would put his brother’s tablet in the family shrine, would bring him home and burn everyone involved in harming Wei Wuxian—
Jiang Cheng paused, halfway out of the courtyard.
He hadn’t thought back to that night since it occurred, unwilling to remember but…
What exactly had Lan Wangji been doing again? Because it wasn’t fighting Wei Wuxian, not really and, well, the man was still in seclusion.
Maybe, just maybe, Jiang Cheng should ask him just what his goals had been that night.
[TLDR: Jiang Cheng overhears one conversation out of context and jumps to conclusions because life is easier if his sister didn't die for someone actually doing all he's accused off. MDZS but the CQL plot is Jiang Cheng's new headcanon.]

Here late, but here all the same! This Wip Wednesday, have some more huli jing!wwx and ohoho, in between wangxian flirting, is that some Plot I see? ;)
--
Mo Village was much smaller than Yiling but also seemed both richer and yet less welcoming. The few travelers they crossed path with on the road warned them of the rich family who bore the surname Mo:
“If you’re rich, they’re sweeter than honey,” one woman said with a helpless shrug, “but dare ask for something or look a bit down on your luck and suddenly no one will serve you. The villagers aren’t all bad but they’re too scared so they’d rather close their doors than risk offending the Lady Mo.” Her companion nodded, “It’s no wonder the Second Lady ran away with her son. I heard she was treated terribly while she was there, for being the daughter of a servant. That Lady Mo sure has a temper! And her son is even worse! He broke my stall in a fit of rage because I wouldn’t sell him one of my products at a loss and when I went to complain, our whole family was driven out of the village!” “Why does no one complain to the kingdom?” Wei Ying asked, seemingly absentmindedly, his hand patting the family’s donkey, “This seems like the sort of thing that would be of interest to the officials, would it not?” The woman shook her head, “If only we could, gongzi, but the Lady Mo is close with the officials of the region and some even say she has ties to Lanling! What can a few lowborn merchants like us do against her word?”
The couple ended the conversation with another warning before taking their cart and donkey to try their luck elsewhere. Lan Wangji wished them luck. Wei Ying watched them leave. He’d never lost his smile while they talked, but it had taken on a pensive turn.
“Lan Zhan, what do you think?” he said, softly enough that A-Yu, who was walking ahead of them wouldn’t hear, “Things seem a little more complicated than a simple case of family bullying their weak links if the Lanling kingdom is involved.” “Mn. I cannot say,” Lan Wangji shook his head. Making assumptions without knowing the full picture would serve them ill.
Somehow, Wei Ying must have understood what he meant, because he relaxed and nodded.
“You’re right Lan Zhan, let’s wait until we’ve spoken with the Mo family — after frightening them first of course. It wouldn’t do if my reputation suffered because I couldn’t help little A-Yu!” “Indeed,” Lan Wangji inclined his head. Wei Ying’s smile widened as he suggested, “I’ll go put up the talismans at night — people are less likely to notice a fox running around than a young master like you. Even with the grime of the road, you’re too handsome for the countryside Lan-er-gege! Maidens will swoon as soon as you come into town! You’re lucky Madam Mo doesn’t have a daughter, otherwise she’d be begging you to join her family.”

M, WIP, 45k, Wangxian
Part of the MXTX Epic Journeys Big Bang
Summary: Before the ill-fated nighthunt that took their lives, Cangse-sanren chose to send a letter imploring and threatening a man who held a life debt to her that if things should go wrong, he would find and take in her child, swearing otherwise that she would haunt him to the end of her days. Lan Qiren was not pleased by the reminder, but for whatever else that anyone has to say, he is an honorable man. If this is what she will accept as a fulfillment of the debt that he owes her, then he will undertake it. A Wei Ying grows up as a part of Gusu Lan AU. Kay's comments: You know, sometimes I just need that good old Wei Wuxian grows up in the Lan Sect story featuring: actually, Lan Qiren isn't as bad as in canon. Admiranda and AshayaTReldai are also an amazing duo of authors and the story is really beautiful. I love the world-building and the general vibes of the story and it's also just really soft. And, Wei Wuxian is a little older than Lan Wangji, which I adore, because that's one of my favourite headcanons. And the story also features beautful art, so it's really delightful all around! Excerpt: Oh yes, he could see Wei Changze in his son; if the eyes weren’t a dead give-away, then the quiet strength the child projected would be. He has clearly been surviving on his own these last however many weeks. The mix of strength and vulnerability was winsome, and Lan Qiren felt a part of his heart he’d long buried and thought dead uncomfortably spark with life. Wei Changze… why her? He could see the child was thirsty, and handed over a water jar, removing the stopper. The boy guzzled a couple of mouthfuls and handed it back, wiping his mouth with a dirty sleeve. “A-Ying, I knew your parents when we were young. I’m a friend of theirs. Your mother asked me to come and find you. I don’t know what happened to them, but if they haven’t returned to you by now, it’s likely that it’s because they have been unable to do so.” The boy’s eyes were fixed on him unblinkingly. Lan Qiren reached into his sleeve, glad for his prescience in thinking to stow half of his breakfast away, and drew out a steamed bun, offering it to the child. A-Ying’s eyes went round with desire and uncertainty. “Go on,” Lan Qiren said gruffly. “I wouldn’t hold it out to you if I didn’t mean you to have it.” Immediately a grubby hand grasped it gently and brought it to his lips. But before he could take a bite he paused, broke the bread in two, and offered the larger bit to Lan Qiren. And that, right there, was Cangse-sanren, generous to a fault, putting others before herself.
pov alternating, canon divergence, canon era, wei wuxian isn't adopted by the jiangs, orphan wei wuxian, loss of parents, friends to lovers, slow burn, childhood friends, childhood friends to lovers, good uncle lan qiren, good sibling lan xichen

💠💙Unavoidable
By:diamondbruise
Summary:
Lan Wangji, generally speaking, did not make note of people. Of course there were exceptions, once faced with special kindness or distaste, but most often others left an imprint so light that it would fade from his mind in only a few days, if not minutes.
He didn’t feel right in his skin for the rest of the day after meeting Wei Wuxian.

or, lwj cannot remember wwx
Chapter:2/2
Words:18,522
Status:Completed
he still remembered his brother, their childhood together. Mother’s smile, the gentian house. The suffering of war, the joy of raising a son. He had kept the important memories, so it was of no consequence. A few details lost meant very little in the grand scheme of things.
~~~
The line of his mouth flattened. “Xichen-ge?” “Yes, yes, your brother, the First Jade of Lan, the sect leader, a good friend of mine,” the man replied, waving his hand with the words. “A good friend,” Lan Wangji said and wished desperately that the sourness in him could not be heard through his voice. Brother had not mentioned their relationship was this close.
~~
...Not that it mattered. Wei Wuxian could spend his time smiling at any disciple he wanted or calling Lan Xichen familiarly as much as he wished. It was no business of Lan Wangji’s.
~~
“I’ve been spoiled rotten, I know,” Wei Ying said, and then his voice softened into something almost too gentle: “I just miss my husband very much.”
Lan Wangji’s fingers tightened around the box of buns until there was a small crack. For a long moment, he felt like the only thing he could hear was the blood rushing in his ears. Then, he took a step forward. Another one. Like that, step by step, he left the voices of his brother and Wei Ying behind him, unable to focus on anything but the word ‘husband’ echoing in his mind, over and over.
Wei Ying was here to break a love curse. Wei Ying had worked tirelessly for months, looking through spells and curses and making notes, like his life depended on it. Wei Ying had ignored his own health in order to work more, work faster.
Wei Ying had pulled back the moment he’d noticed Lan Wangji’s feelings. Like he hadn’t wanted to give him hope. Because he had a husband.
Something ugly and desperate in Lan Wangji wanted to confess, still. Wanted to make Wei Ying know, wanted to make him consider the life Lan Wangji could give him.
He’d sleep with him every night, would bring him breakfast, would hold him whenever he so wished. Brush his hair in the evenings, buy him anything he wanted, take him
night-hunting, love him and cherish him and give him his absolute, unwavering devotion. He would give Wei Ying anything he asked, if only – But marital vows were ones not taken lightly. That someone else had been lucky enough to be the first vying for his attentions
successfully, could Lan Wangji blame him for it? And this person was someone dear to Wei Ying. Someone whose death Wei Ying had prevented, who Wei Ying tirelessly wanted to cure to have back that married life he’d clearly loved.
The ache in his chest grew into a full-body feeling, raw nerve exposed to the world that did not fear cutting him.
~
Lan Wangji had fallen ill and lost memories months back, during the time that Wei Ying’s husband had been cursed. This timing, surely it was not a coincidence.
~~
Not once had he considered the memories lost anything important. He had not realized a love this deep, this all-consuming could be taken from him. It felt like something integral already, a part of him that would, if taken, feel like a missing limb.
He had memories of Wei Ying from before. He had a life with this man he knew nothing of. He was married.
Lan Wangji buried his face in the side of Wei Ying’s neck, breathed in his scent, no longer restricted by his sense of propriety or the thoughts of other men getting to do it. There were months of frustration simmering under his skin. Had his self-control not been what it was, he might have surrendered to this need. Were they not married, after all? Was Wei Ying not his?
~~
“I remember everything I should.”
Their first meeting. The first kiss, stolen during a hunt. The war, the fear, the death, and the resurrection. The sound of laughter breaking the monotony. The feel of soft lips against his. Three bows, not taken during a ceremony, and the three bows that were, when they’d been clad in red.
Each version of Wei Ying there had been, and each version of himself that had been there to witness them.
Wei Ying smiled at him, still. His love, his heart. “Good. And you better not forget.” He would not.
a/b/o #DarkLanZhan
For about 6 months or so, Wei WuXian has been dating an amazing alpha. He is handsome, caring and very mature. However... Something is wrong...
Wei WuXian feels that there is another person in Lan Zhan's heart.
And he is not wrong.
Wei WuXian noticed the first signs when he met him. Lan Zhan had a subtle scent of milk, as if he had been with a pup for a long time.
He said the pup was his brother's son, but... Why after these months could he still not meet this brother and nephew?
The young omega tried not to think about how that hurt his feelings.
The next signs became clearer. Lan Zhan never invited him to his house, never introduced him to his friends either and, Wei WuXian was not considered someone toxic, but Lan Zhan never allowed him to touch his cell phone.
When did he get the last piece of the puzzle? When Lan Zhan was taking a shower in the hotel shower room.
Lan Zhan's cell phone kept ringing. Wei WuXian took the device out of the alpha's coat.
/MianMian/
Wei WuXian swiped right without noticing.
"Mr. Lan?"
"... No..."
"I'm sorry, I thought it was your husband. I'm calling because your little A-Yuan is feeling sick to his stomach and won't stop crying. Could you come get him? His mom's pheromones always calm him down"
"... Sure... "
"It will be good to see him again."
"..."
Wei WuXian hung up.
When Lan Zhan came out of the shower he saw Wei Wuxian crying sitting on the edge of the bed.
"Wei..."
"When were you going to tell me that I'm your lover?!"
"..." Lan Zhan didn't know how to react and froze.
"God, you have a husband and a son, A SON!"
The omega's sadness flooded the room with a bitter aroma of rotten apples.
"You have a son..." he sobbed "dammit.... You made me a home wrecker..."
After that, Wei WuXian did not let himself be comforted by the alpha, he only accepted the alpha to take him home. That would be goodbye.
"What are you doing? This is not the way to my home."
"It is" the alpha's voice came out a little broken.
It took a few minutes to reach a very luxurious area.
"I don't know what you're planning, but fuck you, I won't be the one to tell your omega husband that you're putting your fucking alpha cock in another hole!"
"Language," was all he could say. Lan Zhan had a complicated look on his face, something between sadness and anger.
Wei WuXian tried to fight the alpha, but Lan Zhan was much taller and stronger, dragging him in was easy.
"Help! HELP!"
"Wei Ying!"
Wei WuXian stopped fighting, Wei Ying, who was Wei Ying?
Entering the lobby, Wei WuXian soon realized, thanks to the many pictures lining the walls, he was right.
Lan Zhan had an omega husband. He had someone in his heart.
And it was him.
Lots of pictures of trips together, pictures of dates in the park, pictures of the two of them holding a baby.... His baby... His A-Yuan.
Then he saw down the hall, a large, elegant room and baby toys. It was wrong. It was still wrong. That wasn't his house.
His original house had a lot of blood, the living room was somewhere else. Wei Ying was hugging his little baby to protect him from the attacker. Wei Ying was so covered in red and was so scared.
Wei Ying remembered the fear and terror. A strong blow to the head caused him to lose consciousness, he prayed that the attacker would not touch his defenseless pup.
Wei WuXian's brain felt oversaturated with information and the young omega fainted in the alpha's arms.
---
Wen Qing checked the IV and made some notes.
"I thought I stressed the importance of not giving him strong stimuli? The lifestyle you have triggers those bad memories. His amnesia brought him back 3 years before he met you, before he was surrounded by luxuries and before that stalker of yours tried to kill him."
"He... He was going to stop trusting me. I couldn't..." Lan Zhan squeezed the hand of Wei Ying, who lay unconscious on the hospital bed.
Wen Qing sighed.
"You're not mated, obviously he's still a young omega who meets an impressive alpha, he's not going to trust you at all"
Lan Zhan caressed Wei Ying's soft skin. If they had been bonded everything would have been easier. Wei Ying's idea of waiting to mating up until the wedding was a bad decision.
He wouldn't make any more mistakes.
"When he remembers, he's going to hate you for this."
"Mn. It'll be fine."
Lan Zhan approached the young omega's neck. He couldn't wait, he didn't want him to think they were strangers again.
They would reset everything, this time there would be no mistakes.
(End. Stay with this thread like this. Don't make me drag it out or I'll ruin it because you know my Darkjis aren't very cute xD What happened to the stalker? Well, it's hard to swim in the sea when you have your legs and hands tied :3 And Lan XiChen went for A-Yuan. The happy ending lives in your hearts!)
