So I created a new Tumblr account and here's what I saw. Just like Twitter before I left it to come here, the "For you" tab is now the default. If you click the home icon, that's what it goes to, even if you switch to the "Following" tab first. It will always default to "For you".

For comparison, I included a second screenshot of what my dash controls look like when I'm logged in as @striderstable. The "Following" tab is the default, and "For you" is just there for you to switch to if you so choose.

So what is "For you"? Well, you can bet that it ISN'T "For you." Even if it seems so now, it is definitely not "For you". It's for THEM. For their advertisers and promoted sites and so on. And you can also bet that if they're doing this with new users now, it's only a matter of time before they implement it across the board.

It also confirms some users suspicions that getting rid of avatars was in order to sneak paid-for content onto your dash without you noticing. Sure, longtime users won't be fooled by this, but unfortunately they're not the target audience anymore.

The perpetrators of this great villainy still think they can grab a sizeable share of users from the site formerly known as Twitter, and perhaps they're right.

Regardless, this heralds the end of those halcyon days when small sites could hope to have a chance to be seen on this platform.

I remember I found this post about how Tumblr isn’t the fandom site because there are bad hot takes. However as a Gunvolt fan, I don’t see it. So far Tumblr has much more reasonable Gunvolt 3 takes than a large chunk of Gunvolt Twitter. It’s like people actually fucking read and pay attention to the story here for the most part.

Look all I am saying is that if the “worst” Tumblr take I have found so far is “I wished Gunvolt 3 was more connected to what was happening in Gunvolt 2,” then Gunvolt Tumblr is fineeeeeeeeeeeeee.

I figured it out. All of the insufferable twee energy of Old Tumblr got shunted into one person who was then tasked with running the Tumblr Twitter account.

It dilutes the fun of memes and makes shit takes there so we can have fun here. Thank fuck I came back to Tumblr because queer friends said they were going back and didn’t see the Tumblr Twitter beforehand. This is Not the vibe.

So I just want to get my two cents in about the Twitter situation, I left that site well before Elon Musk bought it, and honestly I don't miss it. The discourse on that side was already unbearable at the time. At least here there's a decent community, I may not understand a lot of things that go on with LGBT+ groups and stuff like that but I try to. I'm mostly just here to have fun and engage in my fandoms. Anyway I wish all of our new Tumblr goers a good time and good luck.
