This time last year I launched the first episode of my webnovel A Galactic Star. It features a non-binary main character by the name of Neon.
Neon is not transgender, but I am.
I am non-binary, intersex, transgender, and aegosexual. People are complicated 😸
Neon faces many conflicts (the book would be boring without them,) but being misgendered, or forced into binary gender roles that don't fit them, are not problems they have to face. Part of it is that Neon has been out since before they started their career, but mainly, that is not the focus of the book. The focus is the relationship that got fucked up and Santa Claus trying to destroy the universe. It's an urban fantasy romcom at it's core, not some statement, although Neon is a bit bitter at times. 😆
My latest work in progress has a transgender main character and is a lot darker than A Galactic Star. It is a isekai novel I have named Ashbourne Caterpillar for the transformation the characters go through. I hope I can do them justice.
If you like pop-culture, demons, romance, urban fantasy, music, a whole slew of LGBTQIA+ characters, action, gangsters, hero's journeys, and (sort-of) love triangles, A Galactic Star is the book for you. It is free to read on Tapas.
This week has been Transgender Awareness Week. The aim of Transgender Awareness Week is to educate the wider community about transgender and gender non-conforming people and the issues associated with transition and identity.
We are sharing a few resources here that may be helpful to those of us that want to be better allies, or deepen our understanding of the issues facing transgender people the world over (and a brilliant graphic with full credit to the the wonderful Courtney Ahn Design)
But MORE over, this week we also want to celebrate TRANS JOY! To ALL our trans family across the world - WE SEE YOU, WE SUPPORT YOU, AND WE LOVE YOU.
If there are trans people in your life or trans creators that you would like to give a shout-out to in the comments - please feel free to share so we can spread a little love.
And remember - awareness is just the start. Real allyship is about action.
It's #sk8transweek2023 eve!! Could not be more grateful for the support that's been given to this event so far 🩷🤍🩵. Don't forget to use the sk8 transweek 2023 tag and/or tag us throughout the week to make sure we share your work! Also: our AO3 collection is now live, link in carrd.
Happy Trans Awareness Week! I published an op-ed in @time 🏳️⚧️A few months ago I went through a challenging targeted media attack. I was harassed, doxxed, and received death threats daily. I’m no stranger to receiving hateful comments online, but this experience was unprecedented. Everything I posted in June was met with over-sexualized comments, transphobic rhetoric, and hateful vitriol. I found it paradoxical how the same people could slut-shame me for being a woman, while simultaneously calling me a “man”. This later led me to have conversations and to journal about my feelings of being over-sexualized and harmed due to trans misogyny. Thus came my Op-Ed, “The Desire to Cruelty Pipeline: The Oversexualization and Violence Toward Trans Women.” Go read it and then comment here what you thought!
Whole Woman's Health Alliance: Trans Folk are Kin Folk!
Dear Sean,
It's Transgender Day of Visibility (TDOV), a time to celebrate transgender, gender nonconforming, and nonbinary people and their contributions to our communities and our country. The Pro-Abortion movement and the movement for Trans rights have been increasingly targeted by hateful, bigoted, racist and sexist legislators last year and this year. For our Trans folk, 2023 is only getting worse.
According to a study published by the UCLA School of Law, Trans Americans are four times more likely to be victims of violent crime than their cisgender peers. Also, one in four transgender women who were victimized thought the incident was a hate crime compared to less than one in ten cisgender women.
As crimes on trans people and their rights escalate around the country, it's incredibly important to recognize the work that still needs to be done so they can be treated with the dignity and respect they deserve.
The same states introducing cruel and unjust abortion bans are also attacking bodily autonomy through anti-trans legislation.
In fact, we continue to see trans folk in our clinics for abortion care. Trans people, much like the thousands of others Americans that live in states where abortion is banned, are now forced to travel for care including abortion, gynecology, and gender confirming counseling. Even if a trans-man lives in a state where abortion is legal they are more often than not dealing with the stigma that is playing out against their lives on a national scale.
This year, the Republican party is introducing an onslaught of legislation across the country targeting LGBTQ people and specifically the Trans community. All of this in name of their Election platform for 2024. They are moving swiftly to ban gender-affirming care, continue to push "bathroom bills," and "religious liberty" bills and make it almost impossible to update Identification Cards and Documents according to Vox News.
What can I do? (pssstt... tackle the Stigma!)
The best way to combat these attacks and combat stigma is to learn more about trans lives, share their stories, and take action against these unjust laws. Today is TDOV, but this year marks the third annual Trans Week of Visibility, a campaign that is designed to mobilize and confront the increasing legislative attacks against the transgender community. We encourage you to explore their website to learn more about their mission, why it is important, and find out ways to take action.
If you like podcasts, you can listen to activist and writer, Raquel Willis, on What a Day, discussing how the issue of trans rights spans over different states and intersects with different movements for justice.
Follow the hashtags #TDOV, #TWOVA, and #TransWeek on your social media platforms to hear directly from trans people and learn more about their lived experiences.
You can also find additional resources on how to support the trans community through the Human Rights Campaign, Trevor Project, GLAAD, Trans Lifeline, and more.
As both an abortion provider and advocacy organization we believe that all people desire the ability to live, thrive, and obtain the healthcare they need in their own communities. Full Stop. Our patients deserve to live without fear of prosecution or discrimination from authorities, politicians, or religious bigots. Consider donating any dollar amount today to help us continue to provide abortion care to everyone that walks through our doors.
Happy Trans Awareness Week! We’ll be highlighting different trans people from history throughout the week, starting today with a few facts about Iranian activist Maryam Khatoon Molkara.
Dressed in a black velvet suit with red flames on it to go out in Tehran as a teen 1970s
Secured a fatwa (Islamic legal statement) from Ayatollah Khomeini, the leader of Iran, recognising trans people’s right to gender confirmation surgery in the 1980s
Ran a support centre for trans people fleeing violence or seeking support through their transition from her home in the 2000s
Check out our podcast to learn more!

For the next seven days, we'll be celebrating all trans San work, so be sure to tag us in anything you write, either by using the #transteez, or by @ mentioning us directly!
If you have a trans San WIP that you've been working on, this is your sign to post it!
And, for the first time, we are allowing fanart submissions, too! So if you have any trans San fanart, make sure to tag us!
We hope you'll have a great time participating, and that some of you may join us for our group writing session, hosted in our discord server. Happy transing!
Rules: Post the names of all the files in your WIP folder regardless of how non-descriptive or ridiculous. Let people send you an ask with the title that most intrigues them and then post a little snippet of it or tell them something about it! And then tag as many people as you have wips. (You can make your own post or reblog this one!) I have deemed that this isn’t just for writing either. Sketch titles? Comics? DnD campaigns? If you have an unfinished project, it counts!!
