Even accounting for how erratic their behavior can be normally, the Doctor gets extra bonkers after regenerating. ¡¡Reblog and explain your pick in the tags!!

Time and the Rani 1987

5/10
A fun regeneration episode. Not much happens, but I still enjoy it. I'm a big fan of the Rani, so she's a big part of why I like this one. Sylvester McCoy, of course, does a fantastic job.

Man, you're given absolutely no time to deal with Six's regeneration and then his Siamese cat pin mocks your grief.

About 3 minutes into the 7th doctors first episode and I can already tell he's gonna be a funny little gremlin man and I love that for him

Doctor Who: Time and the Rani
I rewatched this serial on 15 May 2023. We reach 1987; it was my first year as an undergrad student. I went to the Australian National University in Canberra, which meant moving out of home for the first time. I lived in college accommodation on campus, which involved a television shared by all 200 or so residents. Canberra only had two television stations then, too. By that point, my family had invested in a video recorder so I wasn’t too worried about missing new Dr Who even if it meant waiting several weeks to see it. You see, the college “jocks” wanted to watch whatever was on the rival channel, and according to the rules of 1980s college life, the “jocks” ruled.
Anyway, we begin with weird space stuff, the Doctor and Mel lying unconscious in the TARDIS. The Rani enters and instructs a monstrous Tetrap to take the Doctor to her laboratory… and the Doctor regenerates. All that occurs quickly before a new opening sequence, theme tune and logo. The Doctor wakes and is a force of nature; he recognises the Rani and eventually the Tetrap returns and knocks him out. When he wakes, the Rani pretends to be Mel to trick the Doctor into working for her. Mel, however, is with a Lakertyan, and she eventually wins him around. Lots of chaos and slapstick ensues.
Even though I took a few days break before embarking on season 24 after finishing season 23, the difference in look and sound between the two seasons is amazing. This is more to my taste, although not everything about it is good. It’s a pared down script in terms of characters and plot lines. Perhaps a little too much for four ~25 minute parts. The Doctor choosing his outfit from a variety of costumes, including many of his past selves, is sweet. There’s also a neat lecture about environmental sustainability.
So, welcome Sylvester McCoy and the behind-the-scenes team who reinvented Dr Who… again.

It’s honestly astonishing that Seven didn’t get murdered in his first episode. The sheer number of malaphors, bad puns, and malapropisms... it would have been justified if someone had had a whack at him. (and honestly can you imagine if they did that? Doc regenerates, is so annoying he’s promptly killed off and regenerates again, says something silly like “yes, we all make mistakes” and trots on...)
Part 1:
A bull in a barber shop
Fit as a trombone
A bad workman always blames his fools
I’ve drawn the short plank
A little portentous (pretentious)
Old hat? (literally 4s old hat)
Not frilled? (thrilled, 3s frilly shirt)
Absence makes the nose grow longer
Part 2:
More hasta less vista
A kangaroo never forgets
The proof of the pumpkin’s in the squeezing
Where there’s a will there’s a Tom, Dick, and a Harry
Part 3:
All good things come to a bend
Here’s a turn up for the cook
There’s none so deaf as those who clutch at straws
A bird in the hand keeps the Doctor away
Out of the frying pan into the mire
Part 4:
A fool and his formula are soon parted
Blessed are the firemakers for they shall make light pastry
Every dogma has its day
The faster a fat man runs, the fatter he’ll get
Two wrongs don’t make a left turn
He who dares, spins
As you snore, so shall you sleep
Waste net want net
Where there’s a will there’s a beneficiary
All hands to the stumps
A miss is as good as a smile
Memory like a dromedary
Time and tide melts the snowman
