Could i request for a Conrad fisher X reader where reader has a younger sibling who gives her a hard time and her parents favour her younger sibling more. It's the reader's bday on the same day as belly's and her family doesn't get her anything and they don't bother with an excuse either and say they don't really care abt her so it doesn't matter. So Conrad comforts her later and if u don't mind u could include some smut at the end?
(this is my situation rn lololol but without Conrad to comfort me😭)

summary: request
conrad fisher x reader
a/n: i’m so sorry love, sorry this is a few days late but you are so loved and appreciated no matter what, hope this makes you happy today <3
it’s been a recurring theme for most of y/n’s life. the overheard quotes about the older sibling had eventually become a reality. they didn’t even wait for y/n to try and live up to them. instead, they just accepted that their daughter wasn’t as good as the rest of their children.
as upsetting as it is, kids experience it too much. y/n experiences it every day, so when she realized it wasn’t normal, that’s when it started to hurt more every year.
this day was supposed to be different. she was so excited, turning 18 and finally being an adult. free of her parents if she wanted to be. she thought that maybe, just maybe, her parents would think of her for a day, and make it about it. alas, the second she woke up and walked into the kitchen, y/n’s hopes were shut down.
“y/n, can you take y/b/n to practice? i’m going out with sharon today,” her mom said, barely even looking at her.
“uh, i’m leaving in a bit, remember?” she speaks, trying to sound as polite as possible. “the fishers invited me over for today.”
“hon, we get it,” her dad talks next, peering up over his glasses and newspaper of the town. “but, to some point, it’s just another day. just do what your mother asked.”
y/n looks at her little siblings at the table, messing around and receiving no repercussions. she still remembers when that was her. playing with her parents, happier than she ever was again. she loves her siblings to death, but she loves herself, too. y/n deserves more than she’s been given, so she confides. she drives her brother to whatever practice, wishing him luck as he whispers a happy birthday, then jumping out of the car to see his friends.
she’s already dressed up for the party for belly. the fishers had welcomed her with open arms, even having decorations and sweets for her on the table. everyone figured she’d have something going on at home, but oh, they were so wrong. she didn’t receive a single birthday message from the people who gave her life, so did it matter? even if she didn’t believe it, at least the fishers knew she was worth it. she was dressed in one of her best outfits, a simple dress with small flowers printed over. she had small wedges and her hair was done neatly. she felt pretty, she is pretty.
she walked into the house, belly hearing the door open first. she skips toward, engulfing y/n in a huge hug. “y/n!” she squeals. “happy birthday!”
“oh, belly! happy birthday to you, you look so cute!”
“are you kidding? your man’s gonna go wild when he sees you!” she whispers, making y/n blush toward the end.
“belly, stop!” she nudges. “he’s not my man… yet.”
they giggle together before moving back into the kitchen where y/n greets susannah and laurel, along with the rest of the boys. conrad stands up first, in a heartbeat. he walks over, almost lifting y/n off the ground in a hug.
“hey! happy birthday!” he tells her, excitedly as he pulls away. jeremiah comes piling in next, saying his words to the person he considers a sister.
“didn’t y/m/n have anything planned?” susannah asked from the pure kindness in her heart.
“oh,” y/n mutters. “we, uh, we did something yesterday.”
conrad can tell when y/n lies. he can read her like a book at this point. he’s spent so long fanboying over her that he knows what she’s feeling. when she’s sad, excited, pissed, he knows. it pulls at his heart when he can sense the disappointment in her voice. he starts to get more alarmed with every drink she takes throughout the day. she’s not even a big drinker, never really taking an offer. now he’s positive somethings wrong.
if y/n’s parents didn’t care about her, they don’t care if she drinks, right? she’s with her friends, she’s allowed to. plus. it’ll take the edge off of the internal wounds her parents have left her with. her feelings on the whole matter start to disintegrate for a while, until belly’s cake comes out and is handed to her. it’s so nicely done, perfect detail and so much love. they put time into her cake and party, and y/n can’t help the jealousy rising up. she vividly remembers every one of her younger siblings birthdays. all of them having their friends and a party, while y/n was just locked in her room on her birthday. the presents and the cheesy grins from everyone were overwhelming every year. she couldn’t help but think about what it could be like with her real family. maybe they could love her as much as she deserves, but in reality, they won’t. they can, but they chose not to, which hurts even more.
y/n stumbles around on the balcony, around people while carefully savoring every last drop of whatever is in her can. she’s probably had too many, but she doesn’t care. it’s almost like it’s reversed itself now. she watches belly open all of her presents and receive hugs and kisses, and the lump in her throat becomes thicker. she thinks of the alcohol as her enemy now, just bringing back the thoughts in her sober mind.
it’s not until everyone hears the clicking of y/n’s heels on the pavement that they notice her walking away. her hand is swiping away the loose tears and everyone looks at conrad. if there’s anyone y/n wants to see, it’s him. they’ve been in love for so long, it’s almost painful to watch. as she walks away, blurry vision from the alcohol and the tears, she tries to grab another can from the box before a hand stops her.
“i don’t think that’s a good idea,” conrad says, gently taking it out of her hand and landing it back in the box.
“oh, great. more fuckin’ judgment,” she retorts, making conrad’s face contort.
“hey, what’s going on? you’ve been off all day.”
“i am, perfectly fine,” y/n slurs. conrad places a hand on her shoulder, and takes them to sit on the steps. his arm is wrapped around her, the other one gripping her hand.
“i know you’re not. it’s ok to not be ok,” he looks at her nose scrunch and her cheeks turn red again. “hey, hey, don’t cry, you’re alright.”
“no,” she weeps out, putting her head in her hands. “i’m a mess! i don’t know what to do, i cant make it any better and i’ve been trying for 14 fucking years!”
“hold on,” he keeps his voice low. “what do you mean?”
“my parents don’t give a shit. they haven’t since y/b/n was born and they didn’t even bother about me anymore,” conrad pulls her into his arms, leaning back as her teardrops soak into his shirt. “i didn’t do anything for this, and belly’s being loved unconditionally without having to fight for it. and i feel like a bitch getting upset over it but-“
“absolutely not. don’t say that ever again. you don’t deserve anything they’re giving you. anything they’ve said to you is a fucking lie. i know who you are. you’re the most perfect, beautiful person i’ve ever met, inside and out. you don’t have to prove anything to them, because they don’t deserve your amazingness,” he speaks to her. it’s nothing but the truth, and nothing he would ever hesitate to say. “and i will spend forever trying to prove to you that you’re nothing but beautiful a beautiful person.”
y/n looks up at him, only bursting into more tears as he laughs a bit. “oh, my god, conrad. i love you, so much. i know i’m drunk but i mean it more than anything.” she’s felt nothing like she does now. she’s never had someone accept her so quickly and with so much appreciation. she feels like she can do nothing but cry and just love on him.
“i’m glad,” he begins again. “because i love you, too. no matter what your parents say or do. they don’t define you.”
and in this moment, for the first time in a long time, y/n knows someone loves her. and he’s not just saying it for comfort. she doesn’t need her parents to be loved. if they can’t do that, there will forever be someone out there who loves her just as much. she knows she’s enough, and that’s enough.

happy birthday aran!!! have some inarizaki hcs let's go
back when they first played shiratorizawa aran didn't know what to do bc tendou kept yelling weird shit at him and aran was, quite honestly, frightened for his life
tendou: "watch this i'm going to intimidate their ace so hard he won't be able to play properly and we'll win!" semi: "okay, what are you going to - " tendou, putting his hands around his mouth for the whole stadium to hear: "HEY NUMBER EIGHT, GET READY FOR ME TO PISS IN YOUR PANTS" semi: "dude what the fuck"
the twins are SO ready to fight and they probably would have if kita hadn't stepped in
kita didn't even have to do much he just stared down tendou with all the energy of "your most respected/favorite teacher is disappointed in you and you're going to cry bc of it" and tendou backed off
(for all of five minutes. then he started dumping on akagi but akagi gives what he gets so what the hell, kita let it slide)
this might be considered bad sportmanship tbh but it's funny as fuck so whatever
LMAO WAIT SORRY LOSING MY SHIT AT THE THOUGHT OF SHIRABU AND ATSUMU ON THE COURT AT THE SAME TIME THE IMPLICATIONS ARE SO FUCKED OH MY GOD
okay sorry back to the normal schedule
i think bc aran's the ace and court captain people try to follow his lead at school or ask him to make the final decision on things and such and he HATES it. it's soooooo much pressure and he really doesn't want to disappoint anyone!!
like no he does NOT want to be the tiebreaker for what their class should do during the school festival he just wants to walk around and eat a crepe. no he does NOT want to choose what paint color looks best for remodeling the garden fence why the fuck are you even asking him he's part of the volleyball club!!!! he always texts kita for help when this happens LMAO
and even if he DOES mess up the other students are always like, "ah, of course ojiro-san would do that!! he totally did that on purpose!! of course it's because [insert farfetched excuse here]!! why didn't we think of that either!!!"
if anyone's ever seen or read handa-kun (light-hearted prequel/spin-off to barakamon <33) it's basically that LMAO
kita's surprisingly good at telling scary stories
not just that but he tells normal stories in such a way that most people think he's telling a scary story first and then he says some totally mundane shit like "and that's why we no longer store our towels under the bed" and people are like. damn guess i'm not doing that either!!!
every day suna texts his sister one funny zero-context quote from practice. his sister has collected all of these and set up a twitter account for them.
gin thinks atsumu is going to get his ass kicked for not knowing when to shut the fuck up. atsumu thinks he's going to get his ass kicked because osamu paid someone to do it
osamu insists he wouldn't tho bc then he'd just do it himself for free
akagi, aran, and kita tease oomimi for being younger than them and make a running joke of ruffling his hair like a little kid which oomimi actually finds really comforting bc people usually shy away from being tactile with him. like guys come on oomimi is a sweetheart i love him so much

Milo information!!<3
finally lol
Tumblr media
Milo’s personality
She’s kind, pretty shy unless with people she trusts, she has separation anxiety and trust issues, she hates conflict, and she’s really silly especially with Tanjiro. She’s also kinda sensitive. Very indecisive, once it took her an entire hour for her to pick a movie for date night with Tanjiro cause he didn’t want to pick, he thought he should give Milo a chance to pick (he ended up having to pick anyway) She’s also quite easily distracted. This one time, she was training with Tanjiro and she saw a butterfly. Let’s just say Tanjiro has been very hesitant to train with Milo ever since.
Backstory (this is for both original and Kimetsu Academy)
Basically, Milo has had a rlly bad track record when it comes to friendship. She’s been betrayed by a lot of ppl, resulting in her shy and insecure personality (she’s always been this way, these things just made it even worse). She has a rlly hard time getting close to ppl as result of this, she thinks that no one actually likes her. She also used to be bullied by some of her family (like her extended family, not her parents) into thinking she didn’t deserve to be loved. The abuse of her uncle has caused her to always have to wear thigh highs to cover up the bruises and stuff. Her uncle killed her parents shortly after she became a demon slayer due to her not visiting him on time (she was in the final selection when she was supposed to go visit him).
What drove Milo to be a demon slayer?
This happened when she was 12. She was having a sleepover at her best friend’s house and a demon came in. It murdered her friend and her friend’s whole family. Milo escaped with just an eyebrow wound (that’s how she got her eyebrow scar, in Kimetsu Academy she got it from her cat when she was 5).
Milo’s family
Mother- Akane Suzuki (dead)
Father- Leno Suzuki (dead)
Uncle (father’s brother)- Haruki Suzuki (alive)
Aunt (mother’s sister)- Akari Suzuki (She married Haruki) (demon)
Grandma (father’s mother)- Hana Suzuki (dead)
Grandpa (father’s father)- Haru Suzuki (alive)
Grandma (mother’s mother)- unknown
Grandpa (mother’s father)- unknown
Adoptive Aunt- Aika Tomioka (yw @muichirothehashira)
Uncle by marriage- Giyuu Tomioka
Milo’s mother and aunt were raised in an orphanage and was never adopted.
Milo’s birthday
July 2nd
Milo’s age
14
Milo’s height
5’1.5
Milo’s likes
Tanjiro, strawberries, pringles, mushrooms, mild spicy chicken udon, her mom and dad, friends, affection, love in general, watching anime, reading manga, and designing clothes (the last 3 are for the Kimetsu Academy au)
Milo’s dislikes
Inosuke (she feels bad but she doesn’t like how loud he is and that he’s always picking fights), Zenitsu (same thing except instead of picking fights, she doesn’t like how he’s so weird with girls), bullies, her aunt and uncle, and demons
What Milo is like in school
She likes to be with Tanjiro constantly. Even if his friends are around. Tanjiro makes being with them more pleasant for Milo. She enjoys hanging out with her friends (especially Mari cause shes Milo’s favorite). She likes designing things like clothes, she has a sketchbook filled with things that she’s designed. Her favorite class is english because of her teacher. Her least favorite class is history because she’s never really been into that kinda stuff, and that is never gonna change. Also, because of her relationship with Tanjiro, and her friends, Milo is popular. She absolutely hates it, a lot of other girls don’t like her cause they like Tanjiro. This has often resulted in some bad things happening to Milo when Tanjiro isn’t around.
Milo quotes-
“How much gasoline would it take to start a fire?”
“A pringle a day keeps the single life away.” (stolen from @muichinno cause that quote you made for Milo is literally my life rn and i absolutely love it)
“Live for the happiness of yourself not of others.”
“Learn to live not live to learn.”
“How do fires exist under water in Spongebob?”
“1000% silliness confirmed.”
“Milo Suzuki at your service, how can I help?”
“I hope to be Milo Kamado someday.”
*while reading fanfics at 3 a.m.* “I don’t need sleep, I need answers.”
Milo’s favorite animal
Definitely axolotl, or cat, or dog. Honestly it could be a lot of things.
Favorite season
Fall because of halloween, spring is ok except for all the pollen, winter is also amazing cause of christmas and the break from school, summer is just blahhh. It’s too hot.
Favorite type of weather
Cloudy cause you don’t have to deal with the sun in your eyes. No rain tho, just clouds.
Day or night
Night by far, Milo thrives in the night.
What Milo is like in battle
She’s actually very dependable in battle. She’ll do anything to protect the ones she loves, even if it means she could get killed. Better herself than anyone else, right? If someone needs backup? She’s right there. She often gets scolded by Tanjiro for how reckless she is in battle (like he’s any better). He doesn’t want to lose her like how he lost most of his family. Milo and Nezuko are all he has left so he’ll do anything to protect them. She has to try her best to keep from getting distracted by a bird or something.
Milo’s breathing style
Starlight breathing
First Form: Breath of Starlight - Releases a wave of stars to knockback/lightly wound the opponent
- First Form: Improved Breath - A wave of stars sends the opponent flying through the air, with light wounds
Second Form: Pool of Shine - The user stabs forward, and lets out a blinding flash of light that stuns/temporarily blinds the opponent
Third Form: Starlight Ripple - The user spins in a quick circle, releasing ripples of sharp stars that cut into the opponent
Fourth Form: Binding Stars - Binds opponent with stars and starlight, withstands only 5-8 seconds
Fifth Form: Yugata no Kurai - Darkness shrouds the opponent, letting the user run away or swiftly chop at the opponent (cheese move)
Sixth Form: Spinning Stars - The user leaps up and forward, sending a wheel of spinning stars to cut the opponent
-Sixth Form: Multi-directional Spinning
Stars - The wheel of stars comes out from different directions, forming a sort of spinning circle around the user
Seventh Form: Consistent Night - Sends a thick stream of starlight stars that bends and twists to the users command
Eighth Form: Hoshi no Dansu - Allows the user to float in midair with little to no control for 10-15 seconds
Ninth Form: Peaceful Sky - Sends a calm but deadly wave of stars at the opponent, deeply wounding them in a few spots
Tenth Form: Dead of Night (Deddobunaito) - Surrounds opponent and user in stars, galaxies, cosmos, basically the universe, and at the users command, implodes on the opponent. This leaves the user heavily damaged, but not fully dead (unless they are already wounded or weak)
(I got this breathing form from a quotev quiz awhile back)
This is all I can think of rn, I’ll probably add more eventually as I think of more stuff:)

Unbirthday - (Agape Series)
Tumblr media
                              Act 2, Scene 1
Song: I’ll Be Home For Christmas by Elvis Presley  Quote: “You trust her more than you’re own wife?”
TW: Blood/Injuries
Masterlist//Agape Masterlist
     ❥๑━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━๑❥
“Happy birthday to you,” a woman sang as she held a wide cake with blue icing writing across it saying: ‘Happy 7th Birthday.’ Along the top it was coated with seven coloured candles, bringing light into the dark room as it was carried from the kitchen to the dining table. “Happy birthday to you,” the child at the head of the table wore a party hat, grinning wildly as they eyed the candlelight that beamed off the delicious bake. “Happy birthday to TK-”
“And Kasey,” a small girl quietly sang to herself, sitting on the wooden flooring of her bedroom and leaning against the closed door, listening closely to the sound of her mother celebrating her sibling’s birthday. In her hands was a small cupcake with a single lit candle in it and her eyes watered slightly as she watched the flame dance cheerfully to the song.
“Happy birthday to you,” Kasey and Gwen sang, but both in different rooms and celebrating a different person’s birthday.
“Make a wish TK,” Gwen whispered, bending down slightly with a grin across her face as she placed her hands on her knees, watching TK and the cake carefully.
“Make a wish Kas,” the youngest twin said to herself, imagining as if someone else told her that, that someone else took the interest in her…that someone who wasn’t herself was celebrating her birthday too.
Both twins closed their eyes, thinking of something to wish for – one wishing for a toy they always wanted and the other wishing to be loved – before both leaned forwards, lips pressed into an ‘o’ shape before blowing out their candles – blowing their wish along with the smoke from the candles.
There was clapping coming from the room outside and Kasey hang her head down low, smiling sadly to herself as she nodded, coming to a quick realisation that this was how all of her birthday’s was going to go from now, that if she wanted it celebrated it was just going to be by herself…she was starting to realise the lack of people around her, the lack of people who are supposed to care for her…she started to see it all and a singular tear rolled down her slight tinted pink cheek, not liking the thought of being alone forever.
But most of all Kasey wasn’t upset…
…she was disappointed.
Kasey was disappointed in herself in making her small self believe that her parents would have an active care in her and wish her a happy birthday along with her twin…but alas it was only him getting the celebration.
She got passed a few gifts and cards in the morning from other people – none from her parents – that wished both her and TK a happy birthday…but selfishly Kasey didn’t care for any of that, all she wanted was for her mum to wish her a happy birthday…she just wanted to be remembered for once.
She just wanted to be loved the way TK was.
And of course she wished her dad did too, but she hasn’t seen him in over two weeks.
“Where’s Kas?” TK asked, frowning at his mum as she walked back towards him after switching the lights back on.
“Kas?” Gwen asked in confusion. “Oh, Kasey? She’s probably with your dad at the firehouse. You know your sister; every chance she gets she goes there.”
“Yeah but I always go with her,” TK looks down at his hands, “and it’s our birthday…if Kas was there then dad would know it’s our-”
“Knowing Kas she’s probably hiding from them all, not much of a people person that one,” Gwen interrupted, laughing as she began to cut the cake. “Don’t worry we’re save some cake for them.”
Kasey didn’t know how much time had passed when the door of her and TK’s bedroom door opened. It was decorated with random sets of stickers that interested the twins, mostly stickers of dogs and fire trucks were littered among the cream door of it.
TK walked in, stopping in his steps as he sees his sister on the top bunk. She was laying on her stomach, feet in the air as they went back and forth as she coloured in the pages of her book with her right hand whilst her left cupped her chin to rest in as her elbow propped her up.
“There’s some cake on the dresser,” Kasey mumbled, not sparing a look at her brother.
TK turned around to see half a cupcake placed on the top of the oak chest of drawers along with a card and present with his name on it. He picked up the present first before walking towards the door to close it.
His eyes glance up at Kasey who finally turned her head too look at him.
“It’s your birthday present from me,” she watches as he opens the small box. She sits up, leaning against the side of the bed by the wall, legs brought up to her chest as her chin rests upon her knees as she began to become insecure of her gift. “It’s not much,” she began, watching TK pull it out and swung it slowly in front of his eyes. “I saved up and saw that,” she pointed a finger at the silver necklace in TK’s hand. “It has a fire rescue embalm and I was thinking when you’re that amazing firefighter that you’ll get your station engraved in it and…you don’t like it do you? It’s okay I can take it back and-”
“Kasey,” TK interrupted, looking up at her once again, “this is the best present anyone has ever given me.”
“You’re just saying that.”
“No,” he shakes his head as he made his way to the ladder, climbing up it with the necklace in hand before sitting on his knees by Kasey. “This present is something I can treasure forever Kas, I love it!” He smiles. “Also happy bir-”
“Don’t,” Kasey uttered, shaking her head. “Please don’t…I don’t want to ever celebrate my birthday again…I’ll always celebrate yours though just not mine. So today is now known as your day, I don’t…my birthday isn’t a big deal to me anymore.”
“What do you mean?”
“Have you not been seeing how mum only celebrates you? It was better when dad was here, but…” she lets a breath out, “he isn’t here anymore.” Kasey shuffles slightly. “It’s like she doesn’t see me as her own child.”
“Don’t say that you know mum loves you.”
Kasey brought her lips into a small smile, wishing her brother could she how much of an outsider she truly was to the family, how alone she was, how lost she was at such a young age. She wish he saw the reason she felt like this but on the other hand she was glad he didn’t. At least he didn’t have to face the feelings she felt, at least he would forever be protected, and that’s all Kasey ever wanted for him.
For him to be happy, and to be loved, and to be protected.
She had no energy to argue, so she gave him that small smile and nodded.
“Okay,” she nods, “just…no more Kasey birthday’s please.”
“What? Kasey, no, that’s…” TK turns his head back to the dresser. “At least let us celebrate every year with half a cupcake and me getting you a card and pres-”
“Only half of the cupcake,” Kasey interrupted. “But that’s it, nothing else that screams Kasey’s birthday okay? And I’m only saying yes to that cause I like cake.”
TK laughs slightly, shaking his head as he moved to sit next to his sister, shoulders touching as they both looked forwards.
“So you really spent your last celebrated birthday in here alone?”
“Mum didn’t want to celebrate it out there.”
TK turns his head to look at her, hoping for her to look back…but she didn’t.
“I think she’s just mad at dad right now.”
That excuse can’t be used for the other five birthday’s she didn’t celebrate.
“Maybe you’ll understand when we’re older,” Kasey pitifully smiles at him. “I try for her, but she looks past me.”
“She doesn’t.” TK dismissed, refusing to accept that someone as sweet as their own mother could ignore TK’s favourite person in the world – his twin, her daughter.
“Wait till you grow up kid,” she laid her head on his shoulder, her small hands wrapping round his arm to hold him comfort and a genuine smile took over her face when she felt his head rest upon hers.
“I’m older than you.”
“Only by 16 minutes.”
TK laughs, “best 16 minutes of my life.”

Buck sat upon the sofa, arm across the back off the furniture as he watched the clock tick every second, waiting anxiously for it to hit 11:00 o’clock.
“Are you sure Kas is coming in today,” Buck questioned, looking behind his shoulder at Bobby who was eating a sandwich.
“She told me she would.” Bobby answered, wiping his mouth with the back of his hand. “It’s strange she didn’t ask for today off like she usually does.”
“Suppose we can finally celebrate her birthday then,” Chimney laughed, patting Buck’s shoulder as he passed, not hearing the hesitation of Buck. “Can’t believe she never let us before.”
“The station is all decorated Bobby,” Hen called as she walked up the stairs, walking towards the sofa to sit down, “we aren’t missing Kasey’s birthday this time, she can’t stop us this time.”
“It’s Kasey’s birthday?”
The voice came from the stairs, the 118 turning to face the voice of question, noticing Eddie stopping on the stairs, hands deep in his pockets as he gives a glance round the station before looking back at his team with raised brows. “Well?”
“Yeah,” Buck whistled. “We have never celebrated it though. Never comes in, always stays away until it’s closer to Christmas, then claiming it’s too  late to celebrate it and if we asked why she didn’t celebrate it she’s says, ‘it’s complicated.’”
“And you think this time be different?” Eddie asks.
“Well I-” Buck hesitates again. “Guess we will just have to wait and find out.”
The team nodded, going back to their day-to-day life in the station, small conversation’s going around as each one spared a worrying glance to the entrance, waiting in anticipation for the younger firefighter to come walking through.
Kasey never came though.
Nor did she come the following days after.

Their bodies landed on the bed, the mattress jumping slightly as they bodies bounced upon it. His arm was under her head and they both began to laugh, laugh at how bizarre it was to be in this position once again, a position they would have been in many years ago, and here they were repeating it all over again – and for one of them they still don’t know whether it was a good decision, but for now…for now they was just going to see how it plays…after all they were still their spouse.
“Oh,” the woman laughs, voice straining slightly from the laughter that was shared, hand being placed on her forehead as her eyes close as she recalls what has just happened. “We suck at this.”
Her hand moves from her forehead to the man bare chest beside her.
“Really?” He mutters, voice hoarse as if he had only just woken up. His pretty brown eyes were no where to be seen either as he closed them, not allowing the sun from behind the curtains to blind him. Or perhaps they were closed as he tells himself that this was happening again, that him and his wife were together once again in bed…something he thought would never happen again and truthfully he doesn’t know if he wanted it to ever happen, but for now he enjoys the feeling of somebody in his bed, somebody to take all the thoughts away from his head, somebody…he enjoys the blissful feeling of having somebody.
Then he thinks to himself maybe this was how it was always supposed to be, he did marry her, and this was how their marriage works.
Maybe his liking towards Kasey was all a make belief, he just liked her as she was somebody that made him feel warm, somebody that got him happy and somebody who make him feel normal – somebody that made him feel like Eddie.
“Cause I feel pretty good about how that went down.”
He blinks, opening his eyes up with a teasing smile as he listens to the laugh he hasn’t heard in years, and usually he would do anything to get her to laugh, to get to hear the sound that caused his stomach to explode with butterflies, feeling them futter round in his body…but hearing it again it didn’t make him feel like that.
He blamed it on the distance.
“You know what I mean.” Shannon sits up to move to lay on Eddie’s chest, arms resting too as her hands were brought up to her chin that rested against his chest as she looks at Eddie’s face, the one that has matured so much since the last time she saw him, but no matter what it was still the face she fell in love with, the face of the man she happily said ‘I Do’ to many years ago. “We say we’re gonna talk and work things out, but we just keep ending up like this.”
Eddie knew that wasn’t healthy, course he knew,  but he felt obliged to ignore it as Shannon was his wife and if they did it this way it can just be forgotten and swept under the rug.
But how much can that rug keep under before it begins to tear apart?
Eddie wished he could talk to her, but even when they were together it felt like they were strangers sometimes who were spelled into some form of a love spell. Eddie would look at Shannon sometimes and wonder who she truly was, he didn’t really know her just like she didn’t really know her. Maybe if they talked then his heart would still be rapidly beating for her, but it no longer did, not since their wedding.
But once again Eddie chose to ignore it and say to himself ‘she’s your wife, you love her.’
And he does love her.
He loves the Shannon he thinks he knows, but he doesn’t know-know her, neither one really does know the other as they never talked in that way before.
But he loves Shannon, she’s the mother of their child, and no matter what, no matter what he knows about Shannon he will always love the part he knows about.
Maybe the love isn’t strong enough, but Eddie doesn’t mind he’s happy to continue to love her in the way he can.
And with everything he chooses to ignore he just sweeps it under the rug.
Eddie sighs slightly.
“It’s a different way of working things out.”
He looks at Shannon and he imagines them being younger again, when they both felt like this was the best feeling in the world, where nothing could beat this. A time he believes that this was the woman he could never not love.
But time has changed and if it wasn’t for Kasey telling him that this be good for him then he wouldn’t be here with Shannon right now, he wouldn’t be choosing to ignore the thoughts that tried to reach him. If it wasn’t for Kasey then Eddie may have realised that the love he had for Shannon isn’t strong enough and he’s only allowing his younger self to think for him.
If it wasn’t for Kasey’s words, Eddie wouldn’t be sweeping this things under the rug.
Shannon chuckles, “Mm-hmm.”
Her hand traces a circle on his bicep, eyes watching her fingers very carefully as she copied the actions she used to do when they were younger.
“You’re getting the tree today?”
He sleepily hums.
“The annual tradition of convincing him that, no, a 16-foot tree does not fit in the house.” His hand rubs the back of her head carefully, just like he did when he was younger, just like her he mimicked the actions they did when they were younger.
She grins, moving her head slightly to look at him again, breathing through her nose slightly before talking once again.
“You know, I caved one year.”
Eddie laughs as he watches her, fingers running up and down her arm gently. Touches so soft that it was like he wasn’t even touching her.
“That last Christmas before you got back. He hadn’t been feeling well, and…we missed you.” A hand of hers moves round his shoulder, nails scratching the top back of it as she continues. “When Christopher looked up at that giant tree, I couldn’t say no.”
“Where’d you put it?”
“The backyard,” she laughs.
“Oh, yeah.”
“Of course,” she smiles brightly. “But we didn’t have enough ornaments to cover it, so we just loaded it up with lights and ribbon. And I got the sleeping bags out, and we laid under it, just staring up at the branches for hours.”
He hums.
“He must have loved that.”
“Yeah.”
Eddie sits up slightly, and arm of his behind his head whilst the other is behind Shannon’s bringing her into a kiss. It was pure bliss. Happiness. They were both happy…both ignoring how bad it was before, both sweeping those thoughts under the rug. They both just liked having the other’s touched, not once remembering how better they were when they weren’t together.
They tried to be their younger selves again, and so far it was working, but behind both of their minds they wondered how long will it last before time catches up to them and they get reminded of the things they tried to push away? How long before the rug tears and lets out every trouble they swept under?
Eddie sighs as he gets out of bed, Shannon beginning to feel cold at the loss of heat he provided when he was in bed with her.
“You know,” Eddie begins, pulling up a pair of grey joggers, “he still won’t tell me what he wants for Christmas.”
Shannon was now up and out of bed as she too got redressed in the outfit she wore yesterday.
“I’ve tried everything.”
“Did you take him to see Santa?” She questions, an idea that crossed Eddie’s mind once before he shut it down just as quick as it came.
“You mean the creepy guy at the mall with a fake beard?” He puts one arm through one hole and the other through the other before pulling the t-shirt up his chest to go over his head. “No.”
Shannon breathlessly laughs. “Oh, my God. You still haven’t let that go. Look just because you got scared and threw up over Santa, that doesn’t mean…”
“First off, yeah, that was very wrong of my abuela to tell you that story.”
She knew the parts of Eddie other’s told her, and for a moment Eddie questioned himself if he would have ever told her that story, a story he knew he would happily tell the 118…but questioned if he would have ever told his own wife.
But that thought…that questioning…he swept it all under the rug before telling himself, ‘yeah, he would’ve. She’s Christopher’s mother…his wife.’
“And-and second of all…I wasn’t scared. The old guy smelled bad, and I had a stomach flu.”
“Really?” Her nose scrunched up as she continued to tease the stuttering man. “Two years in a row-” she climbs onto the bed, walking across it on her knees to reach him, placing her hands on each of his cheeks as she brought him in close. “-You had the stomach flu? Yeah?”
“Yeah.”
She kisses him just as the front door opens, resulting in an alarmed Eddie to pull away from Shannon.
“Daddy!”
“Eddito? Are you here?”
Eddie rushes round the end of the bed and towards his bedroom door, stopping midway to pull his socks onto over his heels.
“Why is he here?” Shannon hissed. “I thought you were picking him up.”
Just like that the bliss was popped.
“I’ll distract them.” He points his finger out, waving his arm marginally. “You-you head out the back.”
One of the threading of the imaginary rug splits as Eddie begins to think of hiding Christopher’s own mother from him, it would be all so real, and the pain would all come rolling back over them if he allows Shannon back into their life – Eddie couldn’t do that if he wanted the rug to be sewen back together.
“Woah, w-wait.”
“What?”
“You want me to sneak out?” There’s a knock on the bedroom door. “That’s our son out there.”
Eddie ponders on the way she said ‘our’ like she has been there for the eternity of his life with Eddie as they raised him. But he ponders for it for a moment as Eddie couldn’t criticise as he too was out of Christopher’s life…but something within him screamed at him to not let her see him, to not let Christopher know.
“Look, we’ve been trying to figure out how to tell him-”
“Daddy.”
“-Maybe this is the moment.”
The voice continued to scream at Eddie, telling him he shouldn’t let her come back into their life that easily.
“Daddy.”
Another knock.
“Dad?”
He gently grabs onto her arms.
“It’s not the moment, okay”
Another piece of the sewing of the rug broke.
“You-you have to go. You have to go.” He rushes to the door, opening it ajar to only allow himself to open the door. “Hey. Hey, buddy.”
“Hey.”
Eddie waves his hand behind his back ushering Shannon to move out of view.
“Thought I was supposed to pick you up at Abuela’s.”
“Oh, he was so excited about decorating that he couldn’t wait to come home.” Eddie closes the bedroom door, walking out as he walks towards the brown sofa, kissing Isabel cheeks carefully before looking at Christopher who had many bags in front of him, but his attention gets taken back to Isabel when she questions: “did you have company?”
“What?”
Eddie is taken back, looking down as Isabel points to the two wine glasses on the coffee table along with the opened red wine bottle beside it.
“Oh,” Eddie rises his brows. “Oh…erm Kasey was here last night before she went out for her night shift at the station.”
Despite him knowing it was a lie, Eddie did wondered if Kasey did go on her night shift yesterday, a shift Eddie knew she had after they disgusted their work rota last week. He wondered due to the fact he hasn’t seen her in a few days, only seeing her the day before her birthday, and now it was quite a while since then and he still hasn’t seen a single caught a single look of Kasey.
Shannon slowly opens the bedroom door at the sound of Kasey’s name.
“Hey, show me what you got.” He pushes the bottle across the table before looking through the bags.
“We ended up with two Christmas trees. He said, ‘This is Daddy, this is me.’” Isabel says, pulling out a small red tree and a small green one.
“Yeah? Aw.”
Eddie took a glance at Shannon who stayed at hiding, and he felt ridiculous that he didn’t allow Christopher’s mother to see him, that he was hiding her from him, but he was doing it out of protection, out of need…so far everything was good between the two couple, has been for quite a while as they hid from everyone like they were two lovesick teenagers.
But somewhere in Eddie he felt like it wasn’t going to last…and one of those reasons why it wouldn’t last would be there in the station, waiting for the bell to ring before they all work together again…and if that reason wasn’t just a stupid thing then he knows…he knows that the rug will break even more, and he will have to let himself accept what him and Shannon aren’t.
“You loved this green one didn’t you?”
Tumblr media
She wasn’t there on her night shift.
That’s what Bobby told the team.
She wasn’t there on their last call.
The team knew that as they couldn’t see her anywhere in the station, nor did she run to their fire truck when the bell rang.
She wasn’t there for the charity work she helped organised to happen in the 118 station. – ‘The LAFD Annual Toy Drive.’
Kasey wasn’t there – hasn’t been for quite a while now – not even Buck, her best friend, has seen her – she wasn’t at home.
“Thank you,” Eddie says before looking up to pause, eyes somewhat widening when he notices it was Shannon handing him the toy fire truck. “Shannon.” He takes a small step back. “What you doing here?” He puts the toy into the bag as she watches his every moment.
“You won’t answer my texts or return my calls.”
“This is not the place.” Eddie puts on a fake smile, nodding a thank you to anyone who hangs him a toy.
“Maybe it’s the perfect place. We can actually have a conversation that doesn’t end up with us in bed.”
It was like everything went deadly quiet around him as Buck and Chimney looked up at him in slightly surprise, eyes moving from him to the woman in front of him before going back to Eddie.
Eddie notices this as he nods his head behind him; “follow me.”
He opens the glass door of the locker room, walking in first before Shannon followed behind before he closed the door, giving them slight privacy from the world he was trying to hid this from.
“I can’t do this here, not now.” He whispers, afraid that someone was going to hear them, pacing around the room to make sure there was no way someone from outside the glass room would be able to hear them.
“Then where and when?” Shannon quietly asks before raising her voice to show to Eddie her commitment to this, that she wasn’t as afraid as he was. “It’s been almost two months and right now, I feel even further away from him and from you than I ever did when we weren’t speaking. Are you ever gonna let me see Christopher?”
“Of course,” he shakes his head, squeezing his eyes in thought before adding, “Eventually.”
He walks away from standing in front of her.
“Does he know that I’m here?”
Eddie’s hand was on the door handle, ready to leave as soon as possible but paused when she questioned him once again.
“I didn’t want to confuse him.” He puts his hand out in a wondering manner. “Not until I was sure.”
“Of me? Because you seemed pretty sure when we started having sex again.”
“Is this how you see this?” Eddie waves his hand between the space between him and Shannon as he let go off the door and made his way towards her. “Some transaction?” He shakes his head ever-so-slightly. “W-what, you sleep with me, so I let you see Christopher?”
With much offence Shannon turns around to look at where Eddie moved to.
“I thought it was a reconciliation.” Her voice began to feel tearful, eyes not showing it though as she spoke up to Eddie about the situation they were in. “Right up until the moment when…you hid me from our son.”
“I didn’t know what else to do!” Eddie raised his voice, instantly regretting it as he looked out of the glass windows, wondering if anyone heard him.
He sighs before talking in a much quieter voice, “I didn’t know what else to do. And I’m not keeping you from our son like some kind of punishment.”
“Whatever I need to do to prove myself to fix things, name it. I am there. But you and me and hiding it from him? That is staring to make everything feel…more broken.”
“You keep looking to me like I have the answers.” Eddie shakes his head again. “I don’t.”
“No. Just the power. I’m the one who screwed up, the one who left, I know I don’t get to have a say. So I’m following your lead. But…where are we going? When will you be able to forgive me?”
“I can forgive you.” Shannon looks at him hopefully. “I’m just not sure I can trust you.”
He walks towards the door, opening it slightly but pauses when he hears Shannon begin to speak again.
“But you trust Kasey?”
Eddie pauses for a long time, looking down at the ground as he tries to think of what she means.
“Why are you bringing Kasey into this again?” Eddie turns to look at Shannon who was facing the other door, looking at the entrance of the station with pursed lips.
She sniffles lightly, shrugging her shoulders.
“Kasey is not involved in this okay? Kasey is my best friend, someone who has helped me a lot since I arrived at the 118, that’s it. So, yes, I trust her, I trust her more than I have ever trusted someone in my life, a-and I haven’t known her for a while but…I trust her. But I don’t see how that relevant to us? Beside I haven’t seen her in a wh-”
“She’s at the entrance of the station Eddie.”
He turns around to look at the entrance and there she was looking like a lost puppy in her uniform, duffle bug over her shoulder as she looked around before focusing on Buck who jogged his way over to her, engulfing her into a hug before questioning her where she’s been, which she laughed and played it off.
Shannon watched Eddie, she watched how his body relaxed ever so slightly, she watched as he become calmer, and his eyes grew soft the moment he noticed her.
“You trust her more than your own wife?”
“It’s complicated.” Answered Eddie.
“I’ve known you for years and you trust her more than me?”
Eddie turns to look at Shannon who had tears in her eyes.
“Guess she’s proven it to me more than you ever have.”
With that Shannon walked out, Kasey noticing and as she walked past Kasey the young firefighter tried to greet her with a smile, only to be ignored which made Kasey shrink back slightly, frowning as she watches her go, wondering if she did something to upset her in the seconds they saw each other.
Tumblr media
“So where have you been Kas? You weren’t home the times that I checked and didn’t answer anyone’s calls or texts.” Buck questioned at the team were on their knees looking for some woman’s nose.
“Really Buck? This again?” Kasey shines her torch around, not giving a single glance at Buck. “I told you already, it was complicated.”
“Too complicated to even tell me? Come on Kas, whatever it is I can he-”
“Buck quit it.”
“We were finally going to celebrate your birthday!”
Kasey freezes for a moment before shaking herself out for it to continue looking for the lost nose, hoping that no one noticed her freeze up…but someone did.
“Anything?” Eddie questioned, interrupting the bickering two.
“Not yet,” Buck says as he shoots Kasey a look as she moves slightly away from them. “It’s not like it could roll.”
“Maybe it bounced,” Kasey calls over her shoulder as she continues to search under nearby tables for it.
It was another minute before Buck jumps up slightly, interrupting the group in front of him as he grunts a “found it,” holding the nose up proudly like he was showing off some prize he has just won.
Eddie crawls to Kasey as she sat upon her knees watching Buck hand the nose over to Hen. He bumps his shoulder into hers, offering a smile to her that she gives back with a small one of her own. Eddie slowly begins to take off one of his blue rubber gloves as he looks at Kasey out from the corner of his eye as she continued to look in front of her.
“So lost solider-”
“Not you too-”
“-I was wondering if you wanted to come with me to take Christopher to see Santa?”
Kasey head turned to look at him.
“Shannon didn’t want to go?” Kasey asked, wondering why he was asking her instead of Shannon and make it as a family trip as that sure did sound like a family thing to do. Sounds like a trip a mother and father would do for their children, not a father and a best friend and his kid.
“Christopher doesn’t know Shannon is back.”
“He doesn’t?” Kasey raises her brows for that one.
“No…should he?”
“She is his mum there isn’t any harm is there for him to see her if she’s back for good and-”
“Shannon and I are sleeping together.”
“Oh,” was all Kasey could say, looking down at the ground as she clears her throat before looking back at Eddie with a small smile. “Yeah,” she clears her throat, “yeah I’ll come see Santa.”
It didn’t take long for the pair of them to leave the station, climbing into Eddie’s car to pick up Christopher after Eddie assures Kasey her that he can take her to work tomorrow so she doesn’t have to worry about leaving her car at the station, and it didn’t take long for them to both sit in front of a fountain as Eddie took a video of Christopher.
“He’s a good kid,” Kasey grins. “Brave kid too. I love how he just happily does everything on his own with a smile and isn’t scared of anything.” Kasey admits to Eddie. “I want to be him when I grow up.”
“Yeah,” Eddie puts his phone down, tucking it into his pocket. “Me too.”
“You’re a good dad, Christopher is the luckiest kid in the world to have you as his parent, as the man he can look up to. He’s got a good role model.” Kasey sighs, rubbing her hands on her thighs slightly as she moves her eyesight from Christopher to Eddie. “I bet Shannon is a good role model, she seems really nice.”
“I didn’t plan to have her back in my life,” Eddie tells Kasey.
“I never said you did.”
“I only reached out to her because I needed her for help in getting Christopher into his new school.”
“Right.”
“We just kind of…ended up in bed.”
“These things happen Eddie,” Kasey laughs, shaking her head. “There’s nothing to be ashamed about, she is your wife.”
Eddie began to realise how foreign that word was for him, how foreign it sounded or even the thought of Shannon still being Eddie’s wife. Two months ago it felt like they were divorced, that he would never see her again and he can happily live his new life with his team and his son.
“Right,” Eddie clears his throat. “You’re right.”
“And as I said, it be a good thing if Shannon and you got back together and rebuilt your family with Christopher.” Kasey pauses, rubbing her eye before sniffling slightly. “Every family has their problems, and it was years ago since Shannon walked out, you both changed and-”
“Are you cold?” Eddie asks Kasey, noticing the way she rubbed her hands and the pink tint at the end of her nose as she sniffled occasionally.
“A bit, but I’m alright.” Kasey shrugged him off.
“No, no,” Eddie tells her, shaking his jacket off his shoulders and down his arm, ignoring her protests as he took his brown jacket into his arms handing it to Kasey who continued to shake her head at it.
“I couldn’t-”
“For my sake will you just take the jacket please.” He pleaded her with his soft brown eyes, eyebrows up as he beg her with a certain look, a look that made her huff a puff of air before taking the jacket with a roll of her eyes.
“I’m only doing this, so you don’t keep bothering me about it.” She mutters, shoving an arm into one sleeve and doing the same with the other, pulling the jacket up to cover her shoulders before pulling the sleeves down to cover her hands.
“Sure,” he chuckles, watching Christopher get picked up to sit on Santa’s lap.
“When are you going to tell Christopher?” Kasey picks the conversation back up, making Eddie sigh as he shakes his head, resting his hand on his thigh as they both keep an eye on his kid.
“I don’t know,” he whispers. “Yesterday I made her sneak out so he couldn’t see her.”
“Why? You trying to protect your kid or something? I get it, she did ran out on him and you, right?”
There was silence between them, Kasey looked back at Eddie to make sure he heard what she said, and he did, he always hears what she got to say, but he just didn’t know how to respond to her, not yet at least. Then the answer hit him, and he knew he could tell Kasey, he could tell her because he trusted her with everything within him.
“I ran out first.” He pauses. “I ran out on both of them. See, when Christopher was first diagnosed I was in Afghanistan. Right at the end of my tour. Instead of going back home…I reenlisted. I told myself it was to pay the bills.”
“But you were running away, too.”
He nods.
“Yeah. But I got to pretend like it was for a noble cause. Serving my country. But when Shannon broke, nobody thought she was a hero. She just got called evil.”
“And now she wants back in his life.”
“Yeah.”
“So why don’t you let her. Seems like she’s already back in yours.”
“That’s…” He bows his head down before looking at Kasey. “That’s what got me confused. Would I be doing it for Christopher or for me?” He rubs a hand across the side of his face. “I guess sex complicates everything.”
Kasey lets out a breath of air, laughing slightly before hitting her shoulder against his.
"She's your wife Eddie," Kasey points out as she sat upon the wall next to her friend, palms planted down onto the side of it as she watched her legs swing ever so slightly like a little kid.
"I know," he sighs as he looks around.
"You're always going to love her."
"I did love her..." Eddie confirms, eyes glancing at Kasey for a second before looking down at his lap, pressing his lips together and raised his brows ever so slightly, "but romantically I think there's someone who I could love more." He spared her another glance before uttering, "Shannon and I were always destined to fall apart."
Kasey turns her head slightly so she could look at him.
“Maybe this time it’s different,” she whispers. “Maybe this is the universe telling you that you and Shannon belong together, that this is your second chance, you are both here now, no more running. You both are here, and Christopher is there and-and you two love each other, right? What so bad of just rebuilding your family. You don’t have to go fast or anything, do it at your speed…just…I… I just want to see you happy.”
“So…keep on brushing these thoughts under the rug then?”
“What thoughts?” Kasey asks. “You tried for two months with her, and everything seems like it’s going okay, so maybe it’s time to open those doors again and be a family?” She hesitates, pushing as she leans forwards a bit, elbows moving to rest on her thighs, hands clamping together. “Unless…you don’t want to? You did say there was someone else.”
“Yeah…but maybe you’re right, maybe me and Shannon should try again, try the family thing again. Beside I don’t think this person shares the same feelings as I do, so no point in waiting for something that wouldn’t happen…and as you said she’s my wife and I love her.” Eddie speaks quickly, turning to look away from Kasey to see Christopher making his way back over to them with a woman dressed as a wife. “Uh, hey.”
They both raised to their feet, smiles across both of their faces as they made their way over to Christopher.
“How’d it go, pal?”
“It went great.”
“So what’d you ask for?”
“Can’t tell. Santa said he’d work on it.”
“Oh, man.”
Kasey laughs to herself, tucking her hands into Eddie’s coat pocket as she watches the interaction in front of her.
Eddie tucks his hands under Christopher’s armpits, picking him up as they walked away from the woman who brought Chris over, and Kasey watched them go with one of the brightest smiles on her face, eyes shining as she looks at them both.
“You two have an adorable son.” The woman says as she walks up behind Kasey who turns around to look at her.
She laughs slightly, trying to find the right words, looking over her shoulder to look at the duo who was waiting for her to catch up. She pauses to watch them, watching how Christopher waves madly at her whilst Eddie watched him as he laughed. He looks over at her, smiling at her with a smile that could lighten the night sky, she shyly smiles back, looking at them for another second to remember the entire moment.
“Yeah,” she whispers, spinning back around to face the woman. “Thank you.”
Tumblr media
“Dad.” Christopher whispers as he looks at his father that was crouching beside his bed, arms placed on the side to keep him steady as he looks at his son lovingly as he listened to the questions Christopher normally asks him before going to sleep. “Is Santa real?”
Eddie hums.
“Is Santa real? Why?” His brows became knitted, worried that someone has destroyed his son’s dream at such a young age. “Did someone say he wasn’t?” He bows his head, eyes softly squinting as the corner of his lips tug up in a small smile. “What do you think? Do you think he’s real?”
“W-when you were gone, I asked Santa for you to come back, and you did.” His voice was quiet like he was sharing a secret to his dad.
“When I was in Afghanistan?”
Christopher nods.
Eddie looks taken back by the information his son just gave him, but like any true parent he hid the surprise written on his face.
“You know buddy, Christmas wishes aren’t like birthday wishes. Yeah. You can say them out loud and they’ll still come true.”
“I asked him to find mum. Will he?”
Once again Eddie is shocked and surprise by what Christopher just asked him, but he hid it, running a hand through Christopher’s curls as he purses his lips in quick thought, smiling slightly with a small nod.
“He’s sure gonna try.”
It was another few minutes before Eddie stepped out of the room, softly closing the door behind him, and taking a small glance at the sleeping boy through the gap he left. He walked towards the dining room where the only main source of light was, his eyes stared at his phone on the table, wondering whether he should text them.
He steps forward towards one of the chairs, lifting it off the ground slightly so it didn’t scrape the floor when he pulled it out. He sat on it, leaning forwards for his phone, entering his passwords, and clicking on messages.
His thumb hovers over one name for a while, hesitating whether he should message them about what Christopher just told him about what he wants for Christmas. But instead his thumb presses on the name at the top, the name he most recently messaged.
Eddie: Hey, you busy?
He watches the three bubbles dance one by one, jumping up and down as the other person typed what they were thinking.
Kas: Not anymore, just got back from a call. So just waiting for the bell to ring again. What’s up?
Eddie poked the inside of his cheek with his tongue, thinking if it was just a good idea to leave her alone whilst she was at work, but he needed to talk to, and the only person he could talk to was Kasey…especially about this.
So, he clenches his hand into a fist, propping his elbow on the table and rested his cheek on the fist as he messaged her with one hand.
Eddie: Christopher told me what he wanted for Christmas…
Eddie: It was to see his mum again.
It took a minute before he heard a reply from Kasey.
Kas: Maybe it’s time for her to come back into your life fully.
Kas: It be a good Christmas gift for Christopher. If you need help on how to surprise him, I’m happy to help.
Eddie: Thank you.
Eddie: Christopher asked me if Santa was real too.
Kas: I swear if someone made that kid not believe in Santa anymore at such a young age I will fight for him to believe in it again.
Eddie: No fighting needed; he still believes in the guy.
Kas: Good. He can’t be a Kasey and find out young.
Eddie: How old?
Kas: Seven.
Eddie pauses, squinting slightly to make sure he read that correctly, only to let out a low whistle when he realise he did indeed read it correctly.
Kas: Don’t worry though, as long as I’m around that kid will continue believing in the guy until a suitable age where he can find out that all the adults have just been lying this entire time.
Eddie: We’re lucky to have you in our lives.
Eddie: You really think I should bring Shannon back.
Eddie didn’t know what he wanted Kasey to say, but as he waited an hour for her reply, his heart sunk slightly at her response…and he thought that somewhere deep within him he knew what he wanted her to say, and it wasn’t what she said – but Eddie pushed it under the rug.
Kas: Yes.
Tumblr media
“Let’s see what we got.”
Kasey followed behind Bobby, anxiously playing the sleeves of her jacket that went over her hands. She blamed it on the coffee that she’s been downing all night due to the 24 hour shift she was working to miss all the days she didn’t come in for – still no one knows why.
“I’ll take the driver,” Hen calls, jogging over to the man sat on the step of a white truck.
“So, I don’t know how, but we have mostly minor injuries,” the cop tells Bobby and Kasey as they walked further into the scene, “some cuts and bruises, except for this guy, and I don’t know if he’s going to make it.”
“Sergeant,” Kasey calls as she kneels beside the man with the bloody uniform who was holding an injured man’s neck.
“That truck came out of nowhere, man.” He looks up as Eddie also kneels down too. “Piece of glass clipped him in the neck. Feels like it hit a major artery.”
“Carotid.” Eddie looks away from his bag and glanced at the uniformed man. “You got your finger in the hole?”
“That’s what we’re trained to do.” He mentions. “I’ve seen it before, unfortunately.”
“Me too,” both Eddie and Kasey says.
“Where were you?” Eddie adds.
“Leatherneck.”
“Ah. I was at Bagram.”
“Army?”
“Uh-huh.”
“Nobody’s perfect.”
Eddie nods towards Kasey.
“Strand here moved about a lot.”
The Marine froze at the name, looking up at Kasey with widen eyes as he swallowed slightly. “S-strand?”
Kasey furrows her brows, nodding slightly.
“Yeah, that’s me.” Kasey smiles. “Moved around more when I was 20 for the first 18 months due to finally getting to be an Army detective with my partner-”
“Trey Malik.” The man finishes off. “He was my best friend and I’m very thankful for what you did for him.”
Kasey said nothing but gives a small nod, bowing her head to not look at the man as her smile falls from her face to a frown.
Eddie gives her a small look as she clears her throat.
“I didn’t know you were an Army Detective.”
“I wasn’t for long,” was all Kasey said before helping Eddie to aid the injured man, hinting to Eddie that this conversation was over. “Let’s run the fluids wide open.” Kasey said, repeating ‘let’s’ twice after her voice cracked at it.
“You mind keeping your finger there for a moment?” Questioned Eddie. “You don’t have anywhere to be, right?”
“Right,” he nods. “I’m good.”
“Okay.” Eddie places a cloth on the neck. “On three. One, two, three.” He takes the place the other man once was, now covering the hole with the material in his hand, keeping it blocked so the victim didn’t bleed out, wrapping the bandage round his neck to keep it steady. “All right. All right, let’s move him out of here, guys.”
Kasey stepped back, staying away from the other uniformed man who she wished didn’t know her, didn’t know the story, didn’t know Trey Malik.
But her eyes look up from the ground and look at him as he stood on the other side of the stretcher. The man looks at her too and gives her a short nod, which confused Strand further.
Why wasn’t he angry at her? Why not scream at her? It was all her fault in the end of it. Why was this man thanking her when he should be wishing for her death instead?
She watches the man move, touching Eddie’s shoulder to grab his attention.
“Is he going to make it?”
Eddie nods.
“Thanks to you, Marine.” Eddie places a hand on his shoulder, head bowing down ever-so-slightly to look in his eyes, head moving to see if his eyes moved to follow his movements. “How you feeling?”
“Fine.” He looks at Bobby. “Anything else that I can do?”
“We’re good.” Bobby smiles. “Thank you for your service. Literally.”
Kasey walks towards the group, stopping to stand beside the Marine as her hands swung by her side. She clears her throat to grab his attention and his head snaps to look at her, offering her a thankful smile.
“Strand.”
“Is there anything we can do for you?” He looks at her, brows knitted before nodding slightly, jogging away from her and back to the destroyed bus to pull out his bag and phone, before jogging back to Kasey.
“There’s a show-”
“Let us take you,” Kasey quickly interrupts. “It’s the least we could do for everything you’ve done.”
The horn honks as they drove through the streets, lights flashing to pass all the traffic.
“You better hurry up and get dressed,” Eddie spoke through the microphone of his headphones. “We’re gonna be there before you know it.”
“I’m gonna cry,” Buck says, taking all the tissues Kasey was passing him due to the fact that she knew how she was, especially when she got a call a few months ago from Buck crying at two in the morning after watching reunions on YouTube. “I-I know I’m gonna cry. Those soldier reunion videos on YouTube always get me.”
The horn honks again.
The group jumped out the vehicle, running up stairs to reach the opened double doors at the top, the firefighters behind the man in a fresh new uniform, and they reached another double door, pushing through it to get to the main hall, where they all slowed down to watch one of the girls sing on stage, and by the looks of the man tearful eyes they knew it was his daughter.
She pauses, gasping after the word ‘Christmas’ when she noticed them, eyes widen with shock, and he smiles when they look at each other. The mother raised from her seat, her too with tears in her eyes as they watched him make his way towards the stage with a grin that stretched across his face, him trying to hold it the smile back to stop the tears from falling.
He picked his daughter up after she jumped into his arms, spinning her around as he held her tight to him, never wanting to let her go again and Eddie watched, knowing the feeling of holding your loved ones again after returning – holding Christopher again made Eddie realise that he needed to be where he son was, that he couldn’t leave him again, not after feeling the strong sense of home in Christopher’s grip.
Buck wipes his eye.
“Every time.”
Tumblr media
“Hey, erm, is this a bad time?” Kasey asks, clearing her throat midway to try and hide the way she truly was feeling.
Eddie closed his bedroom door after he gave one last glance at his family sat in the living room that he left to pick up Kasey’s call. Something Shannon gave him a weird look about after sparing a quick look at his once ringing phone to see the name ‘Kas’ written on it.
“No,” the door softly closes behind him as he walks towards his bed, sitting on the side of it as he listens to the sounds on the other line. “You at Athena’s yet?”
“No,” she quickly shot down. “Just got into my car.”
“You know you can still celebrate it here if you wanted?” He gently reminds her, only to be rejected once again by her.
“No, you’re with your family, I’m not intruding that. Did Chris like seeing his mum again?”
“Yeah, yeah he did, thanks for helping me with that by the way,” Eddie smiles slightly as he listens to Kasey hum slightly. “You’re not driving are you?” His voice quickly grew with an ounce of concern when he realised she told him she was in the car.
“No, I’m still parked outside my place.” She utters, voice slightly shaky but it wasn’t loud enough for Eddie to pick up on it.
“Why aren’t you going to Texas? You never told me why? You didn’t go for your birthday di-”
“That day doesn’t exist to me, alright?” she snaps, quickly apologising for it as she sniffles again.
“It’s okay,” Eddie coughs. “Is there something I can help you with?”
Kasey pauses.
“N-no. Just wanted to wish you and the family a…erm…Happy Christmas again…” Kasey voices breaks but she quickly hangs up, ignoring the ringing of her phone from Eddie as he tries to call back. The time it stops and begins again it starts to feel like background noise as she sits on the backseat of her car, on top of a blanket and leaning against a cushion against the door. Her knees were brought up slightly, arms wrapping round herself closely as she breaks down in tears, not sparring another look at the envelope that rested against her legs.
To Princess.

Flee the fire that devours
‧₊˚✩彡 a gift fic for my dearest friend @probablylilly. Happy birthday bro!! You mean the world to me fr <3
(link to the ao3 version just in case)
Tumblr media
The world, as they knew it, would be ending soon. Not too long after that, the Cycle would begin anew. The Cleansing, nearly at its peak, towered over the imaginary horizon. Ellowen, known as the Prophet by many, knew what had to be done. They were stuck in a cycle, destined to fail from the start. Except they weren’t. Not this time. This time, they chose to resist.
Or: a retelling of the scene following the aftermath of the Black Guardian's defeat.
Pairing: Jespar Dal'Varek x Ellowen the Prophet
Word count: Roughly 2k
Warnings: Major spoilers for the ending of Enderal: Forgotten Stories, angst and tragedy, implied/referenced character death
A/N: Ellowen uses she/they pronouns. I tried to use them equally without sacrificing the comprehensibility of the story, but as the writing fog set in, things just...happened. A friend pointed out that I, and I quote: "when it's real life/action related things, you use she/her pronouns, but when it's about their inside world, you tend to switch to they/them pronouns". As a fellow she/they, I refuse to comment on this.
Title is from Pale White Horse by The Oh Hellos. Beta-read by the amazing i'm your man on discord. thank you so much dude you rule <3
Tumblr media
It all begins with the dreams.
—Maybe you weren’t looking hard enough, hm?
It was the masked men!
First, you set this horrible fire to your sister’s crib… she screamed and screamed and Mommy heard it.
The dead don’t forget! Do you hear me? The dead don’t forget!—
Of what, you ask?
Many things. They can be haunting to some, beautiful to others.
But that is not important.
—Now would you look at that…our mysterious survivor has awoken.
And it came with these visions?
Quite the sight, isn’t it?
Oh, yeah, I do, and this goal is called ‘surviving’.
How unexpectedly death calls us to him…it is bitter, is it not? Unfair.
Three words: I…don’t…care—
Heed my words.
The connections you forged, your little adventures, ambitions, heroics— in the grand scheme of things, none of it really matters.
Now, now.
There is no need to get upset like that.
—Deep down you wanted them dead, didn’t you?
I thought about joining them when all of this is over…and let’s just say, I wouldn’t mind some company.
This is the last stand. They are afraid of us, I can feel it!
Let’s just…see where it takes us.
You just couldn’t handle it anymore.
Will you give yourself to Coarek as he said he would?
You saw an opportunity, and you took it.
You could have made the right choice, but you refused—
It will happen again. And again. And again. And again.
Devour. Strengthen. Cleanse.
They will reap, over and over and over.
It is pointless to resist.
------------------------------------------------------------------------------
The outcome has been decided from the very beginning.
People screaming and running away, foolishly trying to save themselves from their inevitable demise. Bodies littering the streets, charred beyond recognition, faces forever stuck in an expression of despair—
Everything hurt.
As they limped through the corridor, Jespar supporting most of their weight, Ellowen told him everything she learned from the Black Guardian.
Everything besides the two options to forestall the Cleansing, as well as her choice.
If the new information surprised him, he did not show it, but she did not miss the way he kept glancing at her with a worried frown. Her ribs kept hurting, a hollow pain that spiked with every step they took. It did not matter. They had to put some distance between her and the still smouldering body of a pretender God.
—You were meant to dissolve, like the rest of mankind.
Yet here you stand, and I tell you the truth.
This was never meant to happen—
They were stuck in a cycle, destined to fail from the start.
Except they weren’t. Not this time.
To Ellowen, the solution was obvious. Better her than thousands of innocent people. Still, it did nothing to calm her wildly beating heart. What would they tell Jespar? They searched for the right words, thinking of a way to soften the blow, but came up empty. How does one even tell their partner they want to sacrifice themselves for the greater good of mankind?
A dry chuckle, bordering on a sob, forced its way out of their throat. They immediately grasped their throbbing side, vision swimming.
“Whoah, hey! No passing out just yet,” Jespar said and shifted his arms around her body. Ellowen sagged against him. “One foot after another– that’s it, you’re doing well, just stay awake.”
His voice washed over her, mixing in with faint sounds of rushing water. The combination helped to soothe her frayed nerves, somehow. The next few minutes passed in a blur, as they focused more on breathing through the pain, rather than the surroundings. They couldn’t remember closing their eyes, but somehow they found themself in one of the open chambers of the Undercity, slumped against a cold stone wall.
“The Black Guardian…” Ellowen said, voice hoarse. Jespar dug through her satchels, hurriedly taking out healing potions and food. He set everything beside him and cupped her face with his left hand.
“Shh, shh, just stay still for a moment, alright? Can’t have you dying on me, now can we?”
Slowly, the pain subsided as the potions did their work. Her vision cleared, breathing coming out less forced, but her chest still ached– ached with the knowledge of what was about to come.
They both stayed silent for a while, pretending as if they hadn’t nearly died just now– Ellowen watched the river pass by and tried to collect their thoughts, while Jespar busied himself with storing away the now empty potion flacons.
Jespar was the first one to break the silence before it got too unbearable. “You wanted to say something. About the Black Guardian.”
Ellowen swallowed. They worked their jaw, still collecting their thoughts. “Yes, he…before he attacked me, he told me of a way to circumvent the Cleansing,” they began softly and forced themselves to look him in the eyes.
“More than one, actually. One, we flee to the Star City and escape death, while the rest of Vyn is wiped out. We do not age– we become immortal, Gods, in our own right.” They wrinkled their nose and scoffed. “This allows us to oversee the creation of a new world, give birth to a new humanity. They will not know pride, they will not know deceit, effectively starving the High Ones and stripping them of their power.”
“A utopia,” he spat out the word. “A senseless fairy tale. And the other one?”
Ellowen looked down, carefully choosing their words.
“Two, we destroy the Beacon and halt the Cleansing. It will drive the High Ones away for a while, giving us the time we need. I know which one I want.”
“Alright,” he said, reaching out to grab their hand and intertwining their fingers. He stared at them for a while, seemingly mulling over something. When he spoke again, his voice was even, but she could feel something else hiding underneath the surface.
“Your decision… is it final?”
“Yes.”
“I still don’t understand this…fleshless thing. I mean, you’re here, right before me, and I can see you. Touch you, hold your hand. Could you really be an…an illusion?”
Ellowen looked at their connected hands. They opened their mouth to respond and—
Jespar hunched over and gasped in pain. Ellowen barely had the time to catch him by the shoulders.
They brushed a couple of strands of hair out of his face, noting the way he seemed to glow from within. Their heart skipped a beat. “Are you alright? What is it?”
“It’s– the Cleansing. Agh, my skull…burns, it burns– like it’s on fire,” he gritted out, holding his head. “You…seem to…Don’t you feel anything?”
“Faintly, it feels…dull, somehow.”
He took a deep breath. “Your…situation– it, it protects you. By the Wise Hermit– it burns, if this is how it feels down here…fate have mercy on those who are on the surface.”
They slowly got to their feet. “I have to go. Before it’s too–”
“No!” his hand shot forward and gripped her leg. “No, The Black Guardian is right, sacrificing yourself would be pointless. Even– even if I somehow manage to escape the explosion from the Beacon.”
Ellowen watched him struggle to get up, torn between helping him and leaving when they still had the chance.
“No, no, no– you can’t.”
“I have to. I have to stop the Cleansing.” Ellowen took a deep breath. “I can’t let all of those people die, I can’t let all of this be for nothing.”
“Then I’m going with you,” he said and stepped forward, raising his chin defiantly. His tone brooked no argument.
“Jespar, I’m not going to let you do that.” They took a step back. “There's…there’s no need for you to die as well.”
“And I’m supposed to let you?” He laughed bitterly. He threw a hand up. ”We have an out, we can both live if we escape to– to the Star City, as bizarre as that sounds.”
Silence settled between them, so heavy it was almost suffocating.
Ellowen watched as his body lit up and he spasmed again. They couldn’t turn back. Not now.
“I’m sorry, but I can’t,” they said, voice soft. On the verge of breaking.
I’m sorry, Jespar.
“You and your fucking idealism, what about all of the things you still want to do? What about Lethonia?”
They balled up their fists, ignoring the sting of pain as her nails bit into the flesh. Looking anywhere but his face. I’m sorry. I have to. “After the High Ones are defeated, you can still travel the–”
“—It doesn’t mean anything without you!”
Once again, silence descended over them, but this time it was tinged with something else. She searched for something, anything, to say– anything that was not a hollow apology or a fake smile.
Jespar gasped softly, realising something. A mask slipped over his face, eyes distant and cold.
—Burning, blazing– their screams echoed through the modest wooden house. Ellowen, young and full of righteous anger, eating away at their insides like acid, just watched. Watched as the flames licked their way up the building, hungrily devouring everything in their way. They deserved it, after all the things they have done to her—
“But this isn’t about saving everyone…is it? You think if you sacrifice yourself, it will finally make up for what you’ve done to them. To your family.”
“Jespar, don’t–”
“Is it not?”
—You wanted them dead, didn’t you? You wanted them dead, didn’t you? You wanted, wished, prayed, desired—
Jespar reached his hand out— to grab them? They did not know anymore. Everything spun. They were sure their breath was coming out of their chest in shallow, erratic bursts. It was too much, too much, crushing guilt and endless sorrow, when will it ever end? —and retracted it, swallowing. He stepped closer. Ellowen automatically took a step back, all of their senses on high alert. Blood pounded in their ears.
They had to do something. Stop this. Fix this.
I’m sorry, Jespar. I’m sorry, I’m sorry, I’m—
“Ell, you have to stop letting this dictate all of your actions, you–”
Her hand moved unnaturally fast, unerringly finding his temple. A brief flash and he stopped dead in his tracks.
Ellowen forced out a weak sigh, which quickly turned into a sob.
Jespar’s gaze became unfocused. Distant.
“Please forgive me,” they whispered, ”for doing this, but this is the only way I can make sure you can get to safety.”
Ellowen swallowed. “And maybe you’re right…maybe I am doing this for selfish reasons, but…it’s the choice that has the potential to save everyone.” They gave him a tired smile. “Ultimately, it doesn’t matter, does it?”
They took a step forward, brushing his fringe to the side with a shaky hand. They touched their foreheads together. A tear slipped down their cheek. “I wish we had more time together.”
Jespar’s face remained blank, eyes glassy.
“Find a Myrad and get to Qyra. The spell should wear off within an hour.”
They kissed his forehead and closed their eyes.
“I know you can beat the High Ones. Kick—” their voice broke, as did her resolve. Tears streamed down her face, unbidden. “Kick their asses extra hard for me, alright?”
“I’m sorry. I love you, you know that? All this is– was worth it. All of it. Travel safely.”
Ellowen turned around, clearing her mind. They hastily wiped their eyes and took one last look back. Out of their sight, a solitary tear slid down Jespar’s cheek.
They made sure their weapons were in their respective places. The Cleansing, nearly at its peak, towered over the imaginary horizon. They had a job to do.
------------------------------------------------------------------------------
The last Black Stone shattered and soon after that, their vision went dark. The Prophet, known by many as simply Ellowen, ceased to exist.
The world was safe– for now.
------------------------------------------------------------------------------
The entire world mourned, but it did not know why. Something tremendous had happened– something important, that much was certain –and only a selected handful knew the truth of it.
Yet, only a limited amount of time remained until the Cycle began anew.
It all begins with the dreams.
Breathe.

I Need To Vent
TW// Outting, homophobia
This is completely unrelated to Colson so feel free to keep scrolling if you want but I need to get this off my chest .
My dad and I have had a shit relationship since I was like 8 and destroyed our family by cheating on my mom. His new GF was crazy controlling and physically abusive. My dad was not allowed at any life event of mine growing up, birthdays, graduation my wedding ect.
I dunno how many of you remember the story of my step sister outting me as bi to my dad when I was like 13 and my dad flipping out saying it was “against the bible” and me gently reminding him that so is adultery but that didn’t stop him from cheating on my mom ….. well that was the last he mentioned it until today.
I recently came out on FB about being poly and Me and my husbands relationship with M. Well my dad just called me crying to ask why he had to find out about it from his now Ex , and why I didn’t tell him and I quote “ I thought we had the kind of relationship that you could tell me anything”
THE FUCKING AUDACITY!!! This man doesn’t even know my fucking birthday ( he had to call and ask me for it for his life insurance paperwork) He doesn’t even know my daughters name ( he says it wrong every time despite my correcting him) He hasn’t been there for me for anything yet somehow thinks we have any semblance of a relationship and is privy to personal information about my sexual orientation and life choices especially given how he reacted when I was 13!!!
I said “well you didn’t exactly take it well when my stepsister told you I was bi last time, you told me it was against the bible and I said so it committing adultery”
He claimed he didn’t remember that …. Well that’s funny cuz I remember it very vividly and I definitely remember 13yr old me sobbing in the bathroom after!!
He said “I remember you having a relationship with that girl at school and I had you pulled out and sent to a different school so you could get your life on the right track, but I don’t remember THAT” (This is not even what happened but that’s a story for a different day) Then he said “but your an adult now and can make your own decisions and as long as you’re happy I’m happy and I love you”
I should be happy he ended it saying that but I’m literally FUMING! I’m 36 I don’t need his love and support now I needed it when I was a fucking CHILD!! The audacity of him saying he thought we had the kind of relationship where I can tell him anything it what pisses me off the most!!!
Sry end rant.

but what I wanna know more about modern morgott au
Well, anon..... You asked
So I might've ended up concocting an entire storyline just because of a throwaway bit of joking with my friend, but what can you do??? So I imagine that in a modern setting the omen twins wouldn't end up getting shunned like in canon (because in modern days imprisoning people in the sewers is generally frowned upon, big surprise lmao), but they'd still be in quite the shitty situation. I haven't exactly thought in details about the worldbuilding, there's prob a bit of magic realism going on in this brave new AU, but any case they still be rocking those horns because. C'mon. They wouldn't be the same without. And while Omens might not be as openly and violently reviled as they are in canon they are probably still looked upon with suspicion and distrust. I can imagine the family situation is a mess. Perhaps in this AU Marika is the matriarch of a rich/powerful family and thus there are certain Expectations(tm) thrusted onto the unsuspecting offspring born in said family. Morgott, ever so desperate to gain the love and approval that has been denied to him since birth, would prob readily sacrifice himself in trying to grasp what he so desperately want, and Mohg... Not so much. (There's also a bit of Fun Gender Fuckery going on because I a 100% unironically headcanon canon Morgott as trans and this is also present in the AU, so he'd prob try to deny his true self and to conform to the gender he's been assigned at birth -but not forever-) Even tho they grew up super close, were best friends and each other's only confidant etc., during their teen years they slowly end up growing apart because Mohg can't stand how subjugated and servile his twin is to the whims of their family, and viceversa Morgott is unnerved by Mohg's increasingly more rebel attitude and his constant sneering "No"s whenever he's asked (ordered, really) to do anything he does not like. They end up having a very ugly fight when on the days before their upcoming 18th birthday Mohg, in a desperate last ditch attempt to save his brother from the grasp of their oppressive family, tells him he intends to escape the moment he is a legal adult, and tries to convince Morgott to come with. So things get broken between them. Mohg follows through with his plan and he's gone pretty much the morning of their 18th birthday, whereas Morgott stays behind, even if it kills him a bit inside to be apart from his twin.
Now Mohg is out there in the world barely a legal adult, broke and not really knowing how to survive because of how oppressively sheltered their upbringing was, and he ends up falling for the lure of the cult of the Formless Mother (who is a real human person I suppose lol), whereas Morgott still tries for a bit to be accepted, approved and loved by his mother... But at some point, finally accepting the knowledge that it will never happen, Morgott also ends up leaving the family and building for himself a quiet, modest and unassuming life somewhere else. (His only contact with any blood relations ends up being his half-sister Nepheli, who is actually a pretty cool young woman who sometimes visits him, bringing baked goods and telling him about her life in college. He finds said visits pleasant, even if he only gets half of what she says because he doesn’t understand the slang of ‘the youth’ but he’s only like, 37 or something lol) But he’s not happy. Sure, now he’s finally accepted himself as is, and is living his own life as he sees fit, but not a day goes by without him feeling Mohg’s absence like a live wound in his heart. He feels so guilty for taking so long to finally realize his twin had been right all along, and for not going with Mohg so many years prior. Feels like an idiot for wasting so much time before truly living as his true self, and feeling like not even knowing where Mohg is, if he’s alive and well, is a punishment for his own idiocy.
He’d probably has some kind of quote unquote “lame” old man job that allows him to be on his own. There’s people in his life that actually care for him and consider him a friend (like Nepheli and his biker gang), but Morgott is blinded by self-hatred he still carries and while he is courteous to them, he doesn’t think they are his friends because he unconsciously thinks himself unworthy of friends and affection. Let’s just say that he has a lot of unpack, and emotionally speaking he has a lot of growing up to do, still.
Mohg on his part initially feels at home in the cult. Finally, a place accepting of him as he is! Where he is given love unconditionally and where he can be who he is! But that’s only at the start, of course. He gets lured in by these sweet promises, and everything is all fine and dandy for a while. He has friends, he has a mother figure who watches upon him with benevolence, he’s not forced to do anything he doesn’t want to do... But then slowly things change. He starts to get asked to do things. But it’s fine, right? He’s been given so much, it’s only right that he also gives back. And he gets lured in deeper, warped and molded into something his younger self would’ve been horrified by. But it happens so slowly he doesn’t really realize it, and by the time this new him fully emerges he’s in too deep to even realize what is going on, and he think he is happy, now, being a higher figure in the cult, someone people goes to when they need help. He feels like he’s being the person he so desperately needed when he ran away from home, that he’s helping the same way he’s been helped at his lowest, and isn’t that fantastic?
But of course it isn’t because cult. Cults are generally not a good place to be. He probably ends involved in stuff that’s outright illegal.
(Also there are those nights when he just can’t sleep and stares at the ceiling, doubts nipping his mind, like a constant disquiet feeling of something being wrong, and yet he’s entirely unable to pin-point what it is. And as precise as clock those nights his mind can’t help but wander away, toward that little pain he always carries in his chest, and pretends he does not. Those nights find him wondering where his twin is, and if he’s ok. Is he happy? Does he miss Mohg as much as Mohg misses him? But then he promptly shuffles away those thoughts, pushes them deep down, and goes back to pretending everything is just fine.) So for years the two of them live their lives apart, not having any clue where the other is, zero contact whatsoever. That is until an unsuspecting morning like any other Morgott is getting ready for work with the morning news going on in the background and he just so happen to glance at the screen while the busting of an underground cult is being talked about, and how the head of said cult + the most important figures working in it got arrested.
And what does he sees if not his own twin in cuffs, looking lost of confused, being dragged away by the cops. And for the first time in his life Morgott calls a day off work, jumps on his bike (biker gang boss ftw lol) and immediately books it for the city where Mohg has been arrested. He can’t even think, he doesn’t have a plan or anything, all he knows is that Mohg needs his help now. Considering he probably lives a very modest, frugal life he has a good chunk of money put away, so when he has to pay bail to get Mohg out of his cell (and later get him a lawyer lmao) he pays without even thinking twice about it.
When Mohg gets guided out by very disgruntled police agents he genuinely has no clue who could possibly have paid to get him out... But then he sees Morgott and everything makes sense. Of course. And that’s how after what is probably decades, the last words they even spoke to one another being insults and recriminations, the two end up living together in Morgott’s tiny apartment; having to re-learn how to be with one another, having to really get to know each other because they are such different people, now.
Having to re-learn how to be a person who exist outside of the insular community of his cult, for Mohg, and just having to learn to finally stop stifling his feelings and to fully accept himself, and subsequently the fact that people care for him unconditionally, now, for Morgott-- But together, with that link to one another that they’ve always kept close to their hearts like an incorporeal treasure, I’m sure they’ll climb above those obstacles ; D (also there be court room drama because now Mohg has to go on trial lmao. Adding spiciness to the AU) (I thought about this way too much kfjhgkfdh)

morning with the pups. I have a headache from crying but I bought myself a small treat (orange scone from panera) and managed to get some good work done this morning. I will be honest I feel Bad still but am trying to ground myself so I don’t spiral off into the deep despair again.
here are five small positive things:
I am being actively befriended by this very gruff middle-aged women’s studies faculty member who was on my search committee. I thought she hated me for the entire Zoom interview and the first seven hours of the campus visit but then in the last hour of the visit it suddenly became apparent that she liked me a great deal and just has a very brusque no-nonsense demeanor. we have been emailing back and forth all morning about this faculty pedagogy fellowship she’s leading and I think we are going to co-teach a couple workshops together. also we’re going to start going on walks together because we live so close. it’s nice to be befriended! and it’s nice to think about work as a place where I could build more friendships, especially with people who are there for the long haul.
my best friend lives so close to me now 😭 it was nice to break up the crying jags last night by going over to see her.
I’m genuinely excited to be an aunt. there is a lot of pain around it too and it is going to take some time to work through that but it will be so nice to have a baby in the family. also I am requesting nicely of the universe that if my brother & sister-in-law MUST have a baby before I do, please let the baby to be born on my birthday so we will have a special aunt/niece or nephew bond forever. I do not think this is too much to ask. ugh my heart hurts a lot but I am being brave about it.
last year I wrote a long letter of rec for my old boss/beloved grad advisor for this major mentoring and leadership award she was up for. she won the award and I guess they sent her the file with the letters attached. anyway she sent me a box of woolf & vita sackville-west books, a beautiful handmade glass vase, and a long letter where she said my rec letter made her cry and cry. it was really nice to hear from her—she’s been dealing with really scary long covid health issues since early 2020 and there was a period of time where she was in and out of the hospital so often with such serious issues I thought she might die. she is doing better now though and she says she’s retiring this year, which will be a huge loss to the university but I hope good for her. idk I was happy to hear from her and it was nice to get a surprise package of books (with more on the way, apparently).
oh friends. to quote that tumblr meme from the other day, they should invent a way out that isn’t through. I just don’t want to do the soul-work of trying to break down this grief and metabolize it and integrate it into my sense of self all over again. I’m just sad, you know? I’m sad and I’m tired of feeling sad, I want to feel otherwise, but it’s exhausting to think about clawing my way through these feelings again. I want to be on the other side of this experience and I thought I was there but I see now that I’m not, or maybe that the grief and painful agonizing uncertainty about future losses is going to keep surging back every time something reopens the wound. I feel like I’ve spent the past seven weeks swimming so hard for shore, and I’d finally managed to haul my exhausted self up onto the beach only for a massive tidal wave to crash down over me and pull me back out to sea. and I know it is just the start. liz will be pregnant soon and my SIL will have the baby and people in my social circles will continue to post their pregnancy announcements online and ugh. ugh. I just have this hugely selfish wish that everyone would hold off for like six more months so I could crawl a little further inland before the next wave hits. this is not a positive thing from the day but I can’t quite wrangle myself into feeling gratitude for all the good things in my life today. I think I’m just going to be treading water for a while.

Modern au peneloise headcannons
There was about 5 months where the family thought they were in a secret relationship, but didn’t say anything because they didn’t want to force them to come out.
In the Bridgertons defence they did do a lot of couples activities together including an all inclusive couples holiday for Eloise’s 22nd. And they did give violet a joint birthday gift that year as well. So there was reasons to suspect.
They both went to Oxford, as they are both old money and both incredibly smart
Both of them are night owls which worked well when they shared a flat as they both liked to work at night
Eloise is an investigative journalist who mainly covers political corruption
Pen is an editor as well as an author of a fairly successful book series
Eloise is a huge caffeine addict.
Penelope DESPISES coffee. Literally will not, under any circumstances drink it no matter how much Eloise tries to convince her
Eloise is a complete over-sharer and thus Penelope knows FAR more about Phillips sexual abilities than she ever wanted to
Obviously Penelope can’t share as much once she gets together with Colin. But thankfully there is a Bridgerton wife/girlfriend night once a month with Sophie and Kate
Eloise never fails to complain about the lack of invite even though Penelope continually explains that she definitely does NOT want to know a lot of what is said on those nights once they have all had a drink
When they were 15 Eloise convinced Benedict to buy them alcohol, they got absolutely shitfaced and violet found them the next morning sleeping in the garden wearing trench coats with their hands covered in glitter (they don’t remember why or how that happened)
They were going to get their ears pierced at the same time but Eloise chickened out at the last second and only pen got them done.
She did eventually get them done but only has the one set of piercings whereas pen decided she quite liked it and has multiple piercings in each ear
Eloise was silent for 4 whole minutes when she found out about Pen and Colin. It was broken only because Colin said well this is definitely the longest I have ever seen her quiet which prompted Eloise to begin yelling at Colin threatening bodily harm if he ever hurt pen.
The effect was kind of ruined however when she turned to pen 0.5 seconds later and started gushing about how happy she was and omg now that can properly be sisters
Colin asked Eloise to help pick out pens engagement ring. But since neither of them knew much about jewellery they went to 6 different shops before giving up and calling it a day. Only for Eloise to get home and see pictures of some rings on the counter with a note saying ‘for inspiration’
Penelope immediately bonded with Oliver and Amanda after meeting them. And absolutely spoils them at every occasion possible.
They like to have early 2000’s chick flick movie marathons and can both quote the legally blonde courtroom scene by heart. Gregory can as well because they used to watch it when Eloise was babysitting.
They got matching tattoos for their 21st’s. It was a mini tattoo of a bubbling cauldron as they were OBSESSED with becoming witches when they were young

jujustu kaisen ; as a teacher at tokyo tech!
notes!!
i just really like this concept and wanted to write a random thing for a bit lolol .... enjoy!
m.list
Tumblr media
you "chose" to be a teacher at the tokyo high school location... chose being quoted because, shock horror! you were forced into it
you hold a grudge against each and every person that eventually persuaded you that it was a good idea, esp shoko and nanami because she's an older sister figure to you and nanami was the first out of that group that you were friends with
you scold yourself for trusting them because you know that they are both deceiving with how mischievous they can be
anyway, once you joined the staff of the school, you had (and continue to have) an... interesting experience to say the least...
but despite the ups and downs, you overall love everyone there — both teachers and students they love you too
so, let's begin with how you first met the rest of the group, starting with gojo!!
entering nanami's newly purchased apartment when he wasn't there felt illegal, is what you thought as you slid the front door open after unlocking it. boxes were lined neatly along a small portion of the living room wall, hardly noticeable in comparison to the elegant and pristine furniture that graced the room. you wondered how nanami was able to afford it. stepping into the area, you closed the front door behind you as you slipped off your shoes and paced further into the living room, setting down the obnoxiously big bags that you had smuggled there beside the coffee table. you would typically never enter one of your friend's, even someone as close as nanami's, home without their consent. however, for this time and this time only, you thoroughly believed that all you would do was give him a break. it would only take you an hour to find out how wrong you were. you pulled out the various colourful decorations that you had bought a little while ago: beginning to hang them around the scarily clean room as you hummed to yourself. it was nanami's birthday, and when you found out earlier the same day as you gave him his present that he had no formal plans because he was tied up with work, you took it upon yourself to organise a party for him. yes, you knew that he would probably complain about it but you had yet to get him back for cutting off your coffee supply when you called him at four am once. "what are you doing here?" an unknown white-haired man stepped out of the shadows suddenly, making you jump higher than you ever thought you could. and, as you were opening your mouth to answer, the male took long strides towards you and brought you into a hug. "are you nanamin's girlfriend? i'm so happy that he's finally got someone to help him destress! but... why didn't he tell me?..." whilst the delusional and comically tall man spoke to himself, you slowly backed away and went to grab the bags you had just placed down. least to say that you were not staying around here to find out what else the unknown male would say or do to you. and that was exactly what you were about to do — walk out of the nanami's flat and instead celebrate his twenty-fifth birthday by getting rid of whoever, or whatever, was in his home. but then the front door unlocked and you knew that both you and the other man were going to have to run from nanami instead. ㅤ it took exactly three minutes for nanami to enter his apartment and have you and the white-haired male sit on his sofas: the whole situation seemingly parallel to two kids getting scolded. "so let me get this straight." kento began as he folded his hands in his lap, one of his legs crossed over the other. "you both snuck into my apartment as a birthday gift?" the phrasing made you realise the ridiculousness of the situation, and it wasn't aided when the guy next to you opened his mouth in retort. "when were you going to tell me that you had another friend besides me, nanamin?! i thought it was just us!" both you and nanami mutely made eye contact with each other; the two of you were clearly done with the male next to you, despite the fact that you had yet to even know his name. "no. it was never 'just us'." the harshness of nanami's voice made you unintentionally wince and feel a tiny bit bad for the person next to you. "and you knew that i had other friends; stop trying to make (y/n) feel bad." the two continued to argue back a forth as you shifted uncomfortably on the sofa, now feeling like you were a child watching their parents fight instead. so you took the only opportunity to get out of the situation — trying (and failing) to sneak off of the couch and out of the front door. it only took one movement for nanami's eyes to snap over to your figure as his piercing stare displayed that he was not in the mood for your habit of running away whenever he attempted to chastise you. least to say that that alone was enough for you to hastily plop back down next to the other man. and then came the man's cheesy grin as he held out his hand in greeting. "i'm gojo satoru!"
you can still recall your utter confusion from that day, something that both you and nanami (for his sake and not yours) hoped you could one day forget
anywhooo ... soon after that gojo began to bug nanami about calling you to all of their hangouts even going as far as to rant about the very little he knew about you to the other members of their group
and, as you can guess, they were quickly becoming fed up with hearing about a certain "(l/n) (y/n)" that was according to gojo nanami's girlfriend ??? another thing that both you and nanami wish you could erase from your memories
so they decided, why not invite you out to have a meal with them?
you dipped your head down slightly as you sat on the spare seat that was reserved just for you, smiling to the other adults that had crowded around the restaurant's table. "(y/n)!" gojo announced happily as he leapt out of his chair and pulled you out of yours: crushing you in his embrace as he acted as if you hadn't seen each other for ten years. "it's been so longggg! how have you been? how has my favourite underclassman been?" grinning awkwardly, your eyes darted to the various faces around the table before you redirected your line of sight to the white-haired man. "does that mean nanami's been demoted?" your question prompted a laugh from most of the people around the table, a deep (and tired) exhale from nanami, and a hearty laugh from gojo as you both pulled away from the hug. "anyway! introduce yourself so that they don't think that i'm making you up anymore!" gojo's comment was obviously meant to be a joke, but somehow you could tell there was some sort of urgency for him to prove to his companions that he wasn't just making you up. pivoting to face the collection of companions, you smiled once more as gojo returned to his seat. "i'm (l/n) (y/n), it's nice to meet you all." and that prompted them all (bar gojo and nanami) to repeat their names back to you — all of them equally sharing the smile that had infected you. it was odd, really; how all of you were so much more relaxed than usual and how you just seemed to slot into place as if you were a long lost piece to their almost complete puzzle of a friendship group. and so, with the most logical choice being to adopt you as one of the youngest members of their posse, they did exactly that.
after you had met them all, it didn't take long for you to develop a close bond with each and every one of them
nanami and you would do what you typically did; you would both arrange small hang outs at various cafés or restaurants on the days where neither of you had missions
but, if push came to shove and there were no days where neither of you were free, you would have a late dinner together!
with gojo, you two would go out shopping together — often at homemade sweet shops — and just buy a week's supply of them until you went out again
the downside to this was with how often satoru downs unhealthy amounts of confectionery, you would get texts throughout the days when his supply had run out complaining about his "lack of time with you"
he claims he misses you but you're all too aware he just uses you as a bag holder for when he buys his sweets
you and shoko had made it routine for you to go out and get spa days at least once a fortnight after you both had a bad week once
it had become a habit but neither of you were complaining; your frequent visits had even led you to both get a 50% off discount for each future one! and who were you to turn down a deal that good and miss out??
last but not least, you and utahime spent a good portion of your days off together at each other's homes!
it didn't really matter what you two were doing, though it usually simmered down to baking or something of the sort, both of you just enjoying the little time you had together rather than worrying over external factors
all in all, it really didn't take long for you to be one of the key people in the group, which is why it didn't particularly shock you when gojo stated that you should work alongside him at jujutsu high...
nanami had warned you when he received a voice message from the lanky male an hour prior
you declined at first, but as time went by, you couldn't help but feel increasingly bad for him... but mainly megumi
you and megumi had a close bond — not a mother and son one but more of an older sister and younger brother one
ever since you had become close to gojo, around when you were twenty-five and he was twenty-six, you had been one of the primary people that he had relied on to look after megumi when he was away on some sort of mission
(gojo wouldn't let many people touch megumi, contrary to his laid back attitude, because he deemed them either "too irresponsible" or "too serious")
this led you and megumi (or as you would call him "gum" after a traumatic yet hilarious incident with gum and his hair) to form a close relationship: one that gojo would often complain about because you were "stealing his little boy away from him"
anyway, referring to the proposition for you to work at the school, you consulted your friends, all of which stated that it would be a good idea
so in the end and after a week's worth of mental debates, you reluctantly agreed and thus began your teaching career!
each and every student that you co-taught with gojo would say that they preferred you, and not just because you didn't load your missions onto them you also gave them snacks and sometimes pocket money
but yeah, when it was megumi's turn to become one of your official first-year students after training for so long, you were vvvvvvv proud
however!! you were not overbearing like some people **gojo** and megumi was more than thankful for that
but the others (yuuji and nobara... esp nobara who then told yuuji) were a bit too aware of their classmate's bond with you...
"are you megumi's mum?" the blunt question that was presented to you from nobara made you choke slightly on the water you were sipping: your eyes widening in surprise at the abruptness of the ask. "sorry, what did you just say?" nobara responded exactly how you had expected her to: with a roll of her eyes and a click of her tongue before clearly repeating what she had just said. disregarding the quip she had made about how you must be ageing quickly because of your lack of hearing just then, you cleared your throat that had suddenly become increasingly dry. "no, i'm not his mum. i know him and stuff but— i think it's more accurate to describe us as brother and sister? just not biological because that would be—" "so you're not his mum?" the teenager quizzed after holding up her hand in a successful act of silencing you. you shook your head though you were still partially stunned that the girl had assessed your bond with the fushiguro teen that quickly. huffing as she muttered something about there being no excitement around, kugisaki departed from where you were seated, leaving you to blink a few times before going back to drinking your water.
it only took a day for yuuji to confront you about the same topic, though it didn't come with some more accusations that were a little more accurate
you were at a classroom desk whilst gojo was teaching the class: taking your rare break to mark some leftover papers from your students. and that continued until there was a soft knock on the classroom's door to which yuuji soon entered after you called out for whoever it was to enter. glancing up from the pile of papers in front of you, your eyes met with yuuji's and a smile soon replaced your concentrated frown. "what can i help you with, yuuji?" you commented as you pushed the work to the side and turned your full attention to your student, studying him silently in the case he had come to you because of some sort of injury. "well..." the boy began as he paced over to where you were sat and glanced at his hand. "i was wondering what... your relationship is with fushiguro?" it didn't take a genius to figure out what was going on and your suspicions were correct as you glanced at yuuji's hand. messy handwriting was scrawled across his palm, some of it smudged and other parts barely legible, but it was clear that it was some sort of script. staring dumbly at the writing for a moment more, you allowed your mouth to fall open in shock at how nobara would not let the "megumi's mum" thing go. "...did nobara put you up to this?..." yuuji nervously chuckled prior to hastily excusing himself — more than eager to remove himself from the situation and from possibly getting caught with detention for his (and kugisaki's) scheming.
despite those odd encounters that you now look back on with humour, you do truly value all of the current first-year students that you teach
and, although you were often scolded by nanami for doing so, or even by gojo for trying to become the favourite out of you two, you did enjoy spoiling them (and the second-years) as if they were your own relatives
for panda, yuuta and toge, you often come into work with a selection of their favourite snacks and drinks!
whilst it isn't as much as you want to give them, and certainly isn't what you like to limit yourself to, you don't get to spend more than ten minutes with any of them outside of lessons :(
they won't say it to your face but they often miss you... esp when they're stuck with gojo
and at some point without your knowledge, they got a hold of your phone number? so you now have weekly video calls! gojo gave them your phone number
you take maki and nobara out for weekly shopping trips, though more often nobara because of your contrasting schedule with maki :(
and yes. you spoil them a bit too much sometimes, to the point where nanami has to cut you off from spending any more money
but then your number one enabler, mr gojo satoru, just gives you more so don't worry too much about not being able to afford your rent !
and finally, you spend time with megumi and yuuji by taking them out for dinners; often just the three of you
each week you let the boys choose a new restaurant to eat at, no matter the cost or the location so long as you're back by the next day
gojo often bribes himself to come along with you by saying that he'll just teleport you all to wherever so long as he can eat with you... you allow him
in summary, you are vvvvvvvvvv close with practically everyone that surrounds you and your now co-worker, gojo
and they all adore you !!
but yeah! whilst you have your ups and downs with them, each person you met (directly or indirectly) through nanami has made your life so much more rich with happiness and with wealth
though, all jokes aside, you often feel bad for taking gojo's, or anyone's, money as it just? feels?? wrong???

claire biggs and gerard gibson quotes in keeping 13
“Gerard," Claire coaxed. "It's okay. You can have dinner with me."
"Can I eat you?" he asked, sounding playful once more.
"If you're good," she replied, patting his shoulder.
"What?" Gibsie's voice rose so high, it was almost girlish. "I mean –" he roughly cleared his throat several times before adding, "What?"
Feely chuckled quietly. "Lost for words, Gibs? That's a first."
"I know, right?" Claire giggled, using her finger to close Gibsie's mouth. "I think I broke him.”
“Sinking down on the grass beside Claire, he huffed out a breath. "Now, I'm fucking depressed."
"Oh, come on. He'll come back to you, too." Hooking her arm through his, Claire leaned her cheek against Gibsie's shoulder. "And you can't be too sad, Gerard – we're having babies together this summer, remember?"
"Yeah, I know," he sighed heavily as he rested his chin on her head. "But I'm still not sure we're ready for that kind of responsibility, babe. I mean, I'm only seventeen."
"Well, ready or not, the babies are coming," Claire replied, patting his knee. "And it's your fault for letting him in.”
“Brian," Gibsie explained in a glum tone. "Turns out he had an undescended testicle and wasn't shooting blanks like we thought."
"And that explains why you're having babies this summer how exactly?" Katie choked out, eyes-wide.
"He had sex with Cherub," Gibsie wailed. "We caught them at it in Claire's room back during Easter break. And now she's pregnant."
"Our cat Cherub?" Hughie demanded. "Brian got her pregnant?"
"We've had our suspicions for a while, but the vet confirmed it last Wednesday," Gibsie groaned. "We saw them and everything, didn't we, babe?"
"Uh-huh – on an ultrasound monitor," Claire agreed. "She's having six kittens.”
“That's it. I'll father them. I'll do the night feeds with you, Claire. I'll be there at the birth. But that's it. Yours are the only babies I'm claiming. I know nothing whatsoever about Mrs. Lovell's tabby or any other woman's pregnant pussy. That's my story and I'm sticking to it."
"You two are made for each other," Katie chuckled. "It's so adorable.”
“Well, I don't know what I'm doing yet," Claire announced. "I haven't even thought about it."
"You should skip," Gibsie encouraged, waggling his brows at her. "Then you're one year closer to me."
"And what good would that do me?" Claire teased.
"It'll put us ahead of schedule," he replied, not missing a beat. "It's a good omen. I can feel it in my balls."
Claire rolled her eyes. "You and your weirdness.”
“At least your sister had the imagination to think this whole trip up. We'd be sitting in Biddies, downing pints and warding off clingers if it wasn't for her." Turning to Claire, he said, "Don't you mind him, babe. You did a great job." With his free hand, he tugged on her ponytail, forcing her to look up at him. "You keep that head up," he ordered, tipping her chin with his thumb. "Don't you dare hide that angel face from the world."
Claire's already pink cheeks turned as red as the balloons she was clutching in her hands. "Thanks, Gerard.”
“Say it one more time and I'll burn your tent with you in it," Gibsie snarled, glaring at Hughie. "You think I'm messing? Keep upsetting her and see what fucking happens –”
“Claire's eyes filled with tears and she hurried off through the woods in the direction of the camping site, mumbling something about a fly being in her eye.
"Oh my fucking god!" Gibsie roared, clearly livid. "If any of you have a problem with being here, then get back in your cars and leave!" Gesturing behind him to where Claire had hurried off, he added, "Think very carefully about your next move, because if you're coming, then you're going to be happy. You're going to smile, and you're going to have a good bastard time. You're going to eat the cake, you're going to sing all the happy fucking birthdays, and you're going to thank that girl for spending the last bloody month organizing this trip for your unworthy asses!”
“We left our heavily pregnant cat at home for this, and Claire's anxious enough about Cherub without all of you breathing down her neck, so if you upset her, again, I will legit take leave of my senses and lose the fucking plot." Eyes bulging, he added, "Don't push me, because I'm already half-way there!”
“It's okay, Gerard," Claire soothed as she knelt in front of him with a towel in her hand. "Shh…" With aching tenderness, she gently dabbed at his face and hair. "I'm right here with you." Moving onto his shoulders, she gently dried him off with the towel before wrapping it around his shoulders and cupping his pale face in her hands. "Deep breaths." Pressing her forehead to his, she stroked his cheeks and whispered, "I'll keep you safe.”
“Can Gerard and I have your keys?" Claire's voice filled my ears seconds before her head popped through the opening of our tent. Without a word, Johnny grabbed his keys off the tent floor and handed them to her. "Thanks," she replied before disappearing once more.
"Do you think he should be driving after what happened?" I asked, worried.
Johnny shrugged. "Probably not, but he needs space," he told me, brows set in a deep frown as he focused on plucking wet strands of grass off his shin and then tossing them away. "He'll go for a drive with her, she'll do whatever she does that brings him back down, and then he'll bounce back again."
"Claire?"
"Claire," he confirmed with a nod.
"I think they have secrets," I admitted, shifting closer to him.
"I think you're right," Johnny agreed. "But whatever he needs right now, he'll get that from her.”
“Everyone screamed with laughter as Gibsie cleared his throat and started to sing his own drunken rendition of Richie Kavanagh's My Girlfriends Pussy Cat at the top of his lungs. Smirking, he locked eyes on Claire, and I knew right there and then that he was directing every word to her. He was singing these words at her and he wanted her to know he meant the opposite of the lyrics.”
