“Get out of here.” said Meg, her voice rough with alcohol and unshed tears. “Before someone sees us.”

“Meg, please-” Thanatos reached out, wanting to touch her, calm her in some way, but his hand froze as she shot him a glare. Her eyes were glassy, vulnerable in a way he wasn’t used to seeing.

“You heard me. If my sisters see you here, I’ll never hear the end of it. I’m having a hard enough time already. I don’t need them gossiping behind my back about how I’ve gone soft. That I need a god to look after me.” She spat the word, and he couldn’t blame her. The Furies had a strained relationship with the gods, at best. Thanatos’ hand slowly fell back to his side, fingers curling in discomfort.

“If I go back to the House now... He’ll be there.” he said, quietly. He didn’t need to say who he was. They both knew all too well.

“You don’t have to go home.” Meg snapped, crossing her arms too tightly to be comfortable as she leaned against the wall. “But you can’t stay here.”

“Then, come with me?” Thanatos urged, trying his best to make his voice sound gentle. It didn’t come naturally to him, and Meg wasn’t usually the type to seek out gentleness. But for once, he wanted her to know he could be soft. That she didn’t have to be made of spikes and poison. “Let’s go to Elysium. Find an empty glade somewhere. Get drunk, sleep, blow off steam like we used to, I don’t care. Whatever you need. Just don’t make me leave you alone like this, with them.”

Silence fell for a moment, and Meg hiccuped. A small, terribly vulnerable sound, from someone usually as unshakable as stone. She smiled a weak, watery smile.

“You’re so good at vanishing from every situation that makes you uncomfortable. But the one time I tell you to bounce, you can’t manage it.” she muttered, uncoiling her arms long enough to lightly slap his side. “Damn you, Than.” The venom-less curse brought a smile to his face.

“Because you don’t make me uncomfortable.” He held out his arms, and she willingly slide between them, fitting against his chest just like old times. He tucked his face into her shoulder as he called upon his power to sweep them both away. “Not ever.”
