Could you please write on hero x villian (single parent troupe)? :D I love it sm!!
Just the idea of (either hero or villian) getting all friendly and warm with the other's kid
And the other, at first being like UH UH NOPE STAY AWAY FROM MY KID but soon, after some time of bonding,
the other is the only person they can trust with the safety of their child?
Mmmmm delicious trope yesyes…
(No reposts but reblogs appreciated <3)

New Recruit
Hero tapped their feet against the concrete flooring of Villains basement idly. Hardly paying any attention to their surroundings or the situation they were in, it was all too familiar. They were here a lot.
Ever since Villain got into the whole “kidnapping” thing, Hero had been a frequent visitor at the Villain estate. At first, it was frightening. Then, it turned more into friendly chatting and tea time than business and torture. Hero had nothing against that.
The large door finally began its opening—weirdly enough Villain was ten minutes early this time, that was new—but instead of Hero’s nemesis striding into the room, only a small head poked its way through the door frame. One of a child, a young child, ten at the most took a few nervous steps into the room before closing the door quietly.
Hero blinked in shock, the kid was a mirror reflection of their greatest enemy. Same nose, same eyes, same curious nature… just younger. Had Villain invented some sort of age regressing potion? Was this the same Villain of many years ago?
Lost in thought Hero hardly noticed the child puff up their chest and walk stiff-legged to a stop in front of them. Eyeing them up and down as they furrowed their brows slightly in an attempt to seem menacing. Hero had to stop the small chuckle from escaping their lips at the display.
“Who are you?” Despite the child’s best efforts to seem scary and in charge, their voice came out like a high pitched squeak as they shook a little in their stance.
“I could ask you the same thing.” Hero smiled, finding the younger one quite amusing, but the child didn’t back down.
“Are you Parent’s new lover.”
What.
“The other one isn’t coming back so are you the new one.” There was a slight look of disappointment that crowded the poor kid’s face. They looked upset, as if they had watched their parent go through many heartbreaks and tissue boxes, but was clueless as to how to help.
Parent must have been Villain. That was the only connection that seemed fathomable in this case scenario, besides Hero had known that Villain had a long line of past lovers behind them, so it was only reasonable that this child in front of them was Villains and not the villain themselves.
That was definitely new to Hero. They had never known Villain had a child, and Villain most likely would’ve kept them that way and out of harm for years to come if they had had the chance. Unfortunately for them, this kid was very curious and determined to save their parent’s broken heart.
Adorable. Hero couldn’t help the flutter of pride in their chest for the kid.
Hero contemplated telling Villains child the truth, they surely didn’t want to lie to them and con their way out of this situation—Hero had a feeling that would do more harm to the kid than good—but the truth wasn’t all that easy to explain either. And telling the kid that their only parent is actually a wanted criminal was probably not very smart and Villain would surely have their head for it.
But without having to dwell on it much further, the rushed footsteps of who Hero assumed to be Villain stomping down the stairs towards the basement sounded and Hero found themselves sure of their answer.
“Yes. I am.” Hero was confident in their tone for such a rotten lie, but something in their heart pounded again when the kid broke out into a grin and the stress seemed to evaporate from their shoulders. They were starting to grow fond of this kid and co-parenting with their longtime crush Villain was becoming more and more endearing by the second.

Brazen spoiled kids got what they deserved and are returning home.To be honest, I only wanted to draw Veruca in slop, but seeing how the fandom often draws her in scratches, burns and stitches, I decided to follow their example (yes, she is only covered in severe scratches and bruises. It still seems to me that she is more fortunate, unlike Violet and Mike)

Violet: I'm going out to fall down a Christmas tree.
Charlie: You mean cut down.
Violet: I don't know how to cut down a Christmas tree. When I look at it, I hope that it just falls down.

The fact the children are the ones who are punished in Charlie and the Chocolate Factory has never made sense to me. Like isn’t the whole point that the parents are the ones at fault for the children’s behavioral issues and struggles? Every fucking song describes how the parents caused the problem.
The Gloops never taught Augustus self-control. The Beauregardes pushed and pushed on Violet to be the best to the point she valued being number one over her own safety. The Salts spoil Veruca to hell and back to the point she doesn’t understand the world doesn’t revolve around her. The Teavees neglect Mike and allowed him to essentially be raised on television and the internet, leading to him growing up too fast and not developing any social skills.
Like, don’t get me wrong, the children aren’t entirely exempt from their own actions, but I was under the impression catcf was supposed to be a cautionary tale? Like “raise your children properly as they will become a result of what you allow.”
I guess you could argue punishing the kids is meant to shock the adults into change since they’re being forced to face the absolute worst sides of their own children, which they created. However this, to me anyway, doesn’t work with all of Wonka’s vindictiveness? If Wonka agrees the children’s behaviors aren’t their fault then why would he punish them? It doesn’t seem fair?
Because traumatizing/killing children for their bad behavior literally does nothing to help them because, as the source material is literally trying to say, their behavior is stimming from their parents poor parenting. So why isn’t it that the parents are punished and forced to change so that the children may then change under better parenting?
Not only that but the things Wonka punishes the children for are sorta arbitrary, particularly in Augustus’ case. You’re telling me Augustus deserves to fucking drown because he happens to eat a lot and is fat? By this logic if you told me Wonka decided to kill off Charlie just because he’s poor and spent that dollar he found on what he wanted instead of his family I wouldn’t even be surprised!
Obviously I’m taking it too seriously, it’s not that deep, but I stand by my stance that the parents should have received the children’s punishments.

Who Knew Charlie and the Chocolate Factory was Controversial?
Welcome to my very first blog post. Today I want to talk about the children's story that we all know and love, Charlie and the Chocolate Factory. Whether it be the original book, or one of the two movie adaptations, we’ve all at least heard of this classic story in some way. Today I want to focus on the original children’s book written by Roald Dahl and the controversies it has racked up throughout the years.
Let's start with a little background on the author and a quick summary of the book for those of us who may need a refresher. Roald Dahl, who died in 1990 at the age of 74, was a British author who is still considered one of the most popular children’s authors. He is known for popular works such as James and the Giant Peach, Matilda, and The Witches, and his books have sold more than 300 million copies globally. He was known to voice some offensive opinions outside of his work and was also notorious for his anti-sematic remarks. Be that as it may, his works were still very successful. Charlie and the Chocolate Factory was first published in 1964 and is perhaps one of Dahl’s most popular works, having sold at least 20 million copies world-wide in 55 different languages. It has two different movie adaptations, and has even been adapted for stage performances. So no matter which form it’s viewed in, this classic continues to lure children in with its rags-to-riches tale.
The main character of the book is an 11 year old boy named Charlie Bucket who lives in poverty with his parents and all 4 grandparents. Everyday on his way to school Charlie passes the famous chocolate factory owned by Willy Wonka. No one is ever seen coming in or out of the factory and Wonka is very secretive. Charlie’s grandfather tells him that this is due to competitors stealing Wonkas candy-making secrets, causing the factory to shut down temporarily in the past. One day Wonka announces that he will be hiding 5 Golden Tickets inside chocolate bars and that the children who find them will be rewarded with a tour of the factory and a lifetime supply of his products.
Charlie happens to find some money sticking out of the snow while walking one day, uses it to buy two chocolate bars, and discovers the final Golden Ticket in one of them. When Charlie and the four other children enter the factory they are amazed by both its beauty, and the creatures who work there. These creatures are the cacao-bean loving Oompa Loompa’s, who Wonka explains are from a land called “Loompaland”. They are described as being tiny men with white skin and golden hair who love to sing, and are the only people Wonka employs to work in his factory. As the tour continues, the other four children suffer bizarre, and sometimes painful, consequences for their selfish and bad behavior. For example the bubble gum obsessed Violet Beauregarde steals a piece of experimental gum that turns her into a blueberry. The mischievous Oompa Loompas break into songs highlighting the children's bad behavior each time this happens. By the end of the tour Charlie is the only one of the 5 children left standing, so to reward him for his good behavior Wonka gives him the chocolate factory and that's how the story ends.
Now if you’re anything like me you may be wondering, where did people find controversy in that? Well to start, Dahl had originally described the Oompa Loompas as African pygmies that Wonka found in the deepest, darkest parts of the African Jungle. However, Dahl himself changed their description to white-skinned and golden haired fantasy creatures in 1973 after many complaints and protests by the NAACP. The NAACP even went as far as to demand that the 1971 movie adaptation be given a different name than the book so people wouldn’t make the connection between the two and read the book. And now today the books publishers at Puffin Books are going to be making even more changes to the story in their New Edition reprints of the book. The Oompa Loompas will no longer be described as “tiny men no higher than my knee”, but will instead simply be called “small people” to avoid offending short people and to erase the exclusion of women. Also the description of Augustus Gloop, one of the 5 children on the tour, will be changed from “enormously fat” to just “enormous” to avoid offending heavy-weight children. I really don’t see the point in either of these changes since you can clearly see their original descriptions in both of the movies, but to each their own I guess.
Charlie and the Chocolate Factory isn’t the only one of Dahl’s works undergoing these changes. They are all being edited in some way and this is upsetting many fans of the original works as well as other authors and anti-censorship advocates. British-American novelist Salman Rushdie had this to say, “Roald Dahl was no angel, but this is absurd censorship. Puffin Books and the Dahl Estate should be ashamed.” My main question is where do they draw the line? At what point are they beginning to read these books with the pretense “how could this be seen as offensive”? Were these changes really necessary or are the Sensitivity Readers in charge of pointing these things out just that; too sensitive. I believe we’re beginning to step into the danger zone of controlling the creativity and imaginations of writers by changing their visions for their stories. Most children wouldn’t read these things and see them as offensive, so all they’re really going to accomplish is softening children and making them believe everything to be offensive. But part of life is having to learn to deal with things that might upset you, or make you uncomfortable. And children should have to learn that not everything is a personal attack.
If you’ve made it all the way to the end thank you! I would love to hear your thoughts and opinions on this topic. Just remember to stay respectful towards each other in the comments section. You can disagree with each other, but still be kind and respectful, that’s how good debates work. Let me know if you’d like to hear about any of Dahl’s other works and their individual controversies and changes. And also feel free to make requests on what you think I should write about next.

Ideas for a less #Problematic Charlie & The Chocolate Factory
Inspired by thoughts about the differences between the book and two movies (dunno anything about the stage plays) and the current scandal about a publisher heavily revising Dahl's books.
Disclaimer that my feelings are mixed on the topic of revision without an author's consent and I won't go into that here. These are ideas that would apply to a hypothetical adaptation rather than changing the text of the original book. Mostly just having a bit of fun.
Oompa-Loompas: Once the thought occurred to me I was stunned that this hasn't come up in any of the adaptations (that I know of), but since they're already described as being improbably small, sing songs, and delight in the misfortune of others, they should probably just explicitly be Fey Folk rather than indigenous foreign humans smuggled to England in boxes. They come to Wonka asking for jobs rather than vice-versa, and they provide the practical know-how and/or magic to make Wonka's fantastical ideas real. Bonus meta-joke points if "Oompa-Loompa" isn't the name of their people but the acronym of their labor union.
The Kids: The story is structured as a moral tale where naughty children are punished, but as has been often criticized or joked about, a lot of the punishments seem disproportionate to their crime. So this section will take a lot of cues from the Tim Burton movie where the kids are more despicable and the parents' treatment of them is highlighted. For full moral tale impact, the kids learn a lesson and change from their experience, and Wonka as their judgmental god (or Charlie as Wonka's successor) rewards them for changing.
Augustus Gloop: Focus on his unhealthy diet rather than his size. His parents are too busy or lazy to cook and only feed him junk food and takeout. When they're leaving the factory, his parent insists that they go back and demand the lifetime supply of candy they were promised, but Augustus groans that he never wants to taste chocolate again. He's so traumatized by half-drowning in chocolate that he can't stand the taste of sugar and therefore can't eat anything his parents used to serve him. They're forced to take up cooking and find that they enjoy it since Augustus is such an appreciative audience. He grows up to be a cook himself and partners with Wonka to make a line of ultra-healthy candies.
Violet Beauregarde: Like the 2005 version, she's ultra-competitive with parents who push her to win at everything she does, reveling in the fame she gets. She insists on being the first into the factory, and she has the line (rather than her parent) about being the first person to eat a chewing-gum meal. When they leave the factory after her juicing, her parent is frustrated but remarks that at least she'll still have time to make it to one of her dozens of lessons/practices/rehearsals. Violet refuses, saying she feels "drained" and just wants to go home to take a nap. As Violet remains blue, the whole family finds they hate the unrelenting 24/7 attention from paparazzi and passersby taunting the blueberry girl who got kicked out of Wonka's factory. They stop seeking the spotlight and instead go into hiding. When Wonka develops a cure, he gives it to them along with the resources they need to live incognito far away, where they find they quite enjoy the quiet lifestyle of an unremarkable, ordinary family.
Veruca Salt: As in every version, a selfish entitled girl whose rich parents give her everything she wants. When they leave the factory covered in garbage Veruca berates her parent for letting her go after the squirrel, "if you REALLY loved me you'd have STOPPED me." Her shame and garbage chute trauma lead into a tantrum when she gets home where she can't stand the sight of any of the things she'd demanded from her parents and starts throwing them all away. Someone sees her do it, asks for something, and Veruca pushes it on them in disgust, but their gratitude makes Veruca realize she prefers being liked over being feared, and she grows to be incredibly generous. (She also convinces her parents to pay a settlement rather than fight the charges when they get into trouble for diverting their entire workforce to unwrapping candy bars for their daughter.) Wonka helps her set up a charity to provide for the less fortunate.
Mike Teavee: Emphasize that he's obsessed with TV to the exclusion of everything else. His parents neglect him, just plopping him in front of the TV instead of playing or talking with him, so he's completely sedentary and has no social skills. He rushes into Wonkavision not to experience teleportation, but to be inside his beloved TV. After the taffy-puller overstretches him to a ridiculous height, play off the book line about how basketball teams will want him and he gets recruited to one. This gets him out of the house and exercising and socializing, and taking him to games makes his parents more involved in his life. He appears in TV ads for Wonka taffy encouraging kids to go outside and play.
Etc: This part is more of a ramble than a pitch, haha. No particular thoughts on Wonka, Charlie, or the other Buckets since I find all interpretations interesting and valid:
Book Wonka as a grown-up kid looking for a kid who understands him (though the morality tale aspect emphasizes a "well-behaved" kid who won't get into trouble, and indicates an "obedient" kid who will follow Wonka's methods without questioning or altering them);
1970s Wonka as a lying trickster who's been betrayed and is looking for someone honest that he can trust, and who will trust him (Charlie taking the Wonkavision bar when asked VS Mike refusing to try since he's sure it's impossible);
2005 Wonka as an antisocial loner who learns to care about others through Charlie's love and empathy (aside from the obvious scenes of Charlie valuing his family, he's constantly asking Wonka questions about himself, caring about Wonka as a person rather than focusing on the factory like everyone else).
Apparently some stage versions have Wonka living in disguise as the candy man at Charlie's local shop, and deliberately slipping Charlie the Golden Ticket, which is interesting but definitely makes him more conniving and less whimsical VS the other versions leaving his search for an heir completely up to chance. Then again it's pretty conniving to announce the Golden Ticket competition and send your sales skyrocketing as the whole world searches for em, haha.
The 1970s version eliminating Charlie's father to put the pressure on Mom and Charlie to take care of the whole family, and to present Wonka as a replacement father figure, is dramatic and fun, and I also love the 2005 version's arc of Mr. Bucket being replaced by a robot at the toothpaste factory (toothpaste sales skyrocketing along with Wonka candy sales) only to be hired back to repair said robot, getting the family out of trouble without needing Wonka's help.
TL;DR I'm thinking too hard about Chocolate Factory and my only solid conclusions are that the kids could better deserve and be changed by their fates, and all Wonkas are valid

I’m relieved because the vet said it’s nothing to worry about for now....
But still, Ruby has gotten a bit tubby.
I noticed her tummy was very round and googled “is my cat fat.”
Google said, “look down at your cat from above while she’s standing up, and you should be able to see an indentation above her hips, like a waistline.”
So I tried this with Ruby and my first thought was... “She’s shaped like a blueberry.”
Look at this picture of her next to Sacha for comparison—
Tumblr media
Her body is just a sphere. She’s like a balloon.
By the way, she’s coming up on 11 months already. See how she’s about the same size as Sacha? Well, actually the vet said she weighs a little more than him now. Which makes sense since... you know. Blueberry.
