The Best of Batman!!!
Here’s my guide of the best Batman stories in film and TV.
I’m going the skip the theatrical serials because they are terrible and racist.
So that means our first example is
The 1966 TV Series
This series is a comedy that often made direct adaptations of comic book stories of the day. The reasoning being that the comic stories were so absurd that adapting them straight from the page would be perfect for yuks. Ironically despite making fun of the source material, this means that it’s also one of the most straightforward and accurate adaptations of the adventures of the Caped Crusader.
Most stories are at least two parts so for each I’ll name all the episodes that encompass them separated by a “/“.
Hi Diddle Riddle/Smack in the Middle
Batman is set up by the Riddler and is in danger of being forced to reveal his secret identity in court. But what is the riddler’s real plan?
The Joker is Wild/Batman is Riled
The Joker is tired of being bested by Batman and decides to create a utility belt of his own!
Instant Freeze/Rats Like Cheese
Batman must deal with his guilt over causing mad scientist Mr Freeze to be cursed with a condition that means he can’t survive outside of subzero temperatures. Meanwhile Freeze himself plots his revenge.
The Joker Goes to School/He Meets His Match the Grisly Ghoul
The Joker plots to corrupt the youth of Gotham by giving them free lunch. Batman must teach the children about the magic of capitalism. (Yes this is satire).
The Curse of Tut/The Pharaoh’s in a Rut
A man convinced he is actually the reincarnation of the ancient Pharoah Tut, goes on a crime spree, and forces Batman to dance!!!
The Movie
The Joker, The Penguin, the Riddler, and even Catwoman team up to make a bid for world domination.
Hot off the Griddle/The Cat and the Fiddle
Catwoman disguises herself as a senior citizen to perpetrate the purrrrfect crime.
Hizzoner the Penguin/Dizzoner the Penguin
The Penguin and Batman campaign against each other in a race for mayor of Gotham.
Surfs Up, Joker’s Under
The Joker and Batman compete in a surfing competition.
The Funny Feline Felonies/The Joke’s on Catwoman
Catwoman and the Joker team up to hunt for treasure. Catwoman knows it’s likely they’ll be caught, but she has the best lawyer in the business on her side.
Return of the Caped Crusaders
An animated reunion film made many years after the show went off the air. All of Batman’s enemies team up to defeat Batman by undoing his very being!

Ticking Like A
For @hatboyexchange 2023, I got to write for the amazing @vesperfloyd about Vega, Joker, and PTSD. Trigger warnings for PTSD, flashbacks, and sucky childhoods, but it’s okay in the end, thanks to our favorite hatboy. Read the whole thing on Ao3.

The silence chafes.
The Presidium itself isn’t silent. Their table overlooks the Relay Monument, a popular spot for tourists, diplomats, traders, refugees. He can hear the edges of hushed conversations and shouts of laughter and thundering footsteps. Even with his back to the mezzanine, he can feel the volume of the crowds that pass by on their way to some distraction or other. The constant thrum of noise behind them makes the silence at the table even more stark.
James shifts uncomfortably in his chair, arms folded.
The artificial sunlight glitters off of the reflecting pool in a way that almost reminds him of home. It’s been years since he’s been on a real beach, at least not without a hardsuit and an ammo block. He thought about going home once while he was stationed in Vancouver, but he never made the time. Too late now.
Instead, he tries to calm himself using the refracted light of the pool, imagining sand under his toes, surf filling his ears, water as far as he can see. He could almost believe he’s there, if not for the cacophony around him. Or the sideways-queasy feeling that builds in his stomach the longer he looks at the water. He wants to lose himself in the shapes made by the gentle lapping of the waves around the base of the monument. But he can’t.
He just can’t.
Joker, meanwhile, takes a sip of his drink, looking out over the view, cool as a goddamn cucumber.
James shifts again, his own drink untouched. “Do you, uh, want me to talk about it?” he says, voice low.
Joker shrugs, taking another sip of his drink, not looking his way. “Up to you, Vega. Don’t need to if you don’t want to.”
James scowls into the middle distance. By all rights, Joker should be furious. Yelling. Confining him to the Normandy. Bare minimum, he should be lecturing James the way his abuela used to when he’d disappointed her. But he’s not. He’s just…sitting there.
So James just sits there, too.
Uncomfortably.
The breeze from the recirculated air feels cool on his skin. Not like home, but there’s no tinge of the smoke he smelled in the days after the Cerberus attack, either. Just pure, clean air, stinging the exposed cuts on his knuckles like antiseptic.
He looks down to see his hands curled into tight fists on the tabletop. He makes a conscious, concerted effort to relax them.
He looks up at Joker again, who hasn’t moved since the last time he looked at him. Thirty seconds ago.
James sighs roughly, rubbing his closely-shaved scalp with one hand, wincing a bit in pain. “Look, man, I don’t know what to say.”
Joker sips his drink calmly. “I didn’t ask you to say anything.”
“Come on, comodín, you can’t—“
“Vega.” Joker cuts him off, finally looking over at him for the first time since they sat down. “You don’t have to talk to me.” He takes a sip of his drink, cocking his head slightly, thinking. “But—“
“No, man, don’t—“
“—but you should talk to someone. Probably.”
James blows his breath out in frustration. “I know.”
“Want me to call Cortez?”
“No,” James says quickly, firmly. “Esteban would just, you know…” He gestures inarticulately. “He’d blow it out of proportion.”
Joker raises an eyebrow over his half-empty glass. “You trashed a club.”
“Well, I mean…you know what I mean,” James says lamely.
Joker just cocks his head slightly to the side and goes back to looking out over the Presidium.
They sit like that for another moment, James shifting uncomfortably every few seconds, Joker lounging with preternatural serenity.
“You don’t have to sit with me,” James says when he finally can’t take it anymore. “I’m fine. I’ll…be fine.”
“I do, actually,” Joker responds calmly. “Terms of your release per Bailey. Someone in an ‘official role’ has to watch you for the rest of our leave. And with Shepard off doing who the hell knows what with Aria T’Loak, you’re stuck with me.”
James looks back down at his hands, tips of his ears burning with shame. “Sorry,” he mumbles.
“Don’t be,” Joker says lightly. “You got me out of doing paperwork.”
James ducks his head further down, hunching in on himself.
“Vega.” James looks back up to see Joker frowning at him. “It was a joke.”
James tries to smile. Really, he does. But whatever happens on his face only makes Joker frown harder. Which makes James feel even worse.
“We should, uh…we should probably just go back the the ship, huh,” James says, defeat thick in his voice.
“Is that what you want to do?”
James wipes his hands on his pants, trying to dry off the sweat. He avoids Joker’s calm gaze. Truth is, he doesn’t want to go back. He’ll have to talk to Steve if he goes back, and that’s…he’s not ready to talk. About what happened. Not yet. But it doesn’t seem right to take up Joker’s time just to avoid—
“How ‘bout a walk?”
James blinks, jerking his head back over to Joker at the interruption. The pilot just looks at him, head slightly cocked again.
“C’mon, let’s go for a walk,” Joker says easily, finishing his drink and standing up.
James looks up at the pilot. “Uh, sure, if you want.”
Joker grabs his crutches from where they rest on the railing and nods over the side. “Down along the reflecting pool?”
James looks over the mezzanine railing, the queasy feeling returning as he looks over the water.
Joker continues, “Or down through the wards?”
“The wards,” James says quickly.
Joker just nods and starts crutching off, James following closely behind.

Young Justice without their friend support system would all be Fucked Up. Tim, while lucid whispering to himself, but actually he's just talking to Conner whose always listening. Also could you think of the absolute insanity that would be the bats if one day JJ just disappears from the streets of Gotham and not even the Joker knows and it turns out that Conner just finally convinced Tim to leave. Find Tim and Conner in Hawaii where Conners going through his Superboy hero of Hawaii era and Tim's in therapy
Oh God, oh God, because when he's JJ at least they can keep tabs on him. They can tell if he's eating or doing okay. They've tried so many attempts to get him away from the joker because it's relatively obvious he's not wanting to be there. But then he just disappears and the general consensus is the joker just finally killed him. They don't have a body but there's no other explanation.
Then i assume They keep getting messages from tims call sign but the codes arent correct and the content of the messages makes no sense. But it's enough to go off of. Four months later jason is doing some spying on the new superhero in Hawaii and holy fuck!! That's his brother! Trying his best to live a normal life.
Also I do think if kon were like 25 doing his hero of Hawaii thing it would go over much much better. He's still weird from being under luthors shadow but he would be a lot more mature and understanding. I want them to love him. He deserves that.
Also.............Tim would like Hawaii. I think that's a very good place to deprogram your murderous clowning. Chill out eat a papaya. Maybe go surfing. Send ur dad another unanswered message.

Women Fear Me, Fish Love Me
August 1st (1/5)
The shoreside bar at high noon was filled with company, as the hot summer air filled in the steamy, sunburned water jocks from both the land and sea. These beaches have been the haven of peace between the men of surface and ocean for years, through the courtship at the tides, colloquially known as surfing. The fun distorted guitar softly rang out through the speakers, just under the noise of nasally hoarse voices and the impact of cold drinking glasses. A talkative group sat around a commandingly centered table, consisting of two fossils, and two saltwaters; one of them being the son of the late surf legend, who had just walked in to join the circle.
“Ha-Ran-Go in the hut!” A young man with a drink, leaning near the entrance, chanted, spoiling the presence of the Sailfish Surfer junior. A crowd of vocal, yet low-energy cheers echoed all around the bar, causing the sailfish to huff out a chuckle, waving up in recognition. He sat down at the last remaining chair of the table made of darkened pine planks, scanning his eyes around the table to look at his friends, who are all excitedly looking back at him.
“Hey man, finally!” A tall, many finned latimeria threw his arms up, moving his drink hand more carefully.
“How’s it going, Rango?” The lemon shark, sitting left of the sailfish, chimed in.
An anomalocaris idly floats between the two, blankly staring down the table, presumably.
“Ah… It’s been alright, Trachea.” Rango weakly grins. “I was busy helping the guys with organizing the surfboard shop and all that all week, sorry I haven’t been able to meet up here in a while.”
“It’s alright bro, you’re not the only one that missed the high tide. I had to help my girl out with something before coming here.”
“Sex?” The latimeria did not miss a beat.
“Ekos, that was yesterday, and it was with your mom.” The joke from Trachea prompted a laugh from the whole table.
“Come on, man, don’t talk about my friggin’ mom like that!” Ekos reached around the primitive crustacean to punch the shark in his very muscular shoulder.
“Well your mom is a pretty hot business woman.” The words that casually left Rango’s smiling mouth disrupted the table, even the ‘your mom’ joker was left a bit surprised. The sailfish seemed completely oblivious to the odd silence, turning to watch the gruff bartender showing off with his nimble prosthetic arm. “So, yeah… I really need a girlfriend. It’s been a little lonely in my life- I mean, I have you guys, but… you know.”
“Well, I’m sure you can find one super easily, man, just go up to a girl and have a conversation, you’re the Rango!” Ekos enthusiastically reached out an arm in gesture, towards the Rango.
“Yeah dude, you’re a studmuffin. The girls already love you.”
Rango nervously scratched the back of his neck with a bright smile. “Thanks guys… Maybe someday, right?” He turns his attention towards a nearby waiter, who had just finished jotting down the orders from another table. “Excuse me!” He shouted, raising a hand up.
The waiter was a pink haired person, wearing a bright shirt with a flower design, as well as an out of place white fluffy hat with bunny ears. He perked up, briefly staring wide eyed towards Rango before ducking his head down as he made his way towards their table. “How can I help you?”
“Could I also get whatever he’s making?” Rango pointed at the bartender, who's concocting a colorful and tall drink.
He turned to look for a solid 5 seconds, before curtly nodding and walking away, leaving the interaction without making any eye contact during it.
“Uh, okay, thanks…” Rango trailed off as the waiter quickly disappeared from speaking distance.
…“That guy’s still so friggin’ weird, man.”
“Yeah, no idea why Benji still keeps him around, it must be so sweaty under that hat, dude.”

oh snow!! i would be more than happy to go off about her ;-; i don't have any other ocs yet, this is the first time i've ever delved into something like this and i LOVE IT it's so much fun
these are mostly headcanons and little bits of info that i haven't really put into anything proper yet 💚
so uh yeah here's more info on my self-insert, very self-indulgent oc u-u (and everyone has to be nice because the only reason i haven't made an oc up until this point is because people were mean to me in the past lmao)
so uh her name is conundrum (i'm toying with a real name, is it dumb to have her real name be connie drum? probably but hey it's dc)
she grew up in gotham with an aunt who she would rather never speak of. after a brief stint of sleeping rough and couch surfing in her teens she found a job at a diner doing whatever anyone else didn't want to. they held a weekly trivia quiz and she usually managed to scrape extra money by winning that because she's good at remembering facts and trivia.
alfred frequented the diner, as an escape and a guilty pleasure, and he became fond of her. they have a sweet relationship, a sort of honorary father figure, offering to have her move into wayne manor with them. she rejected the offer because she's very much "eat the rich" but she did accept his offer to pay for her to go to university under a wayne scholarship. she has no ties to bruce and has only interacted with him twice.
at university she studied psychology and criminology and met harley. they've remained best friends since. they're both chaotic, a little bit silly, adorable and perpetually cheery while being a little bit scary tough. in fact, it was harley who encouraged her to put her skills and knowledge into working in gotham's criminal world (even though connie wasn't sure that joker was... right for harley) and so naturally, connie decided that someone smart would be the best to tie herself to.
eddie is with her in every sense of the word. and he likes to maintain that it's begrudgingly so, despite the fact that he knws fine well that he loves her and she's everything to him (hello my wishes and dreams lmao).
she's eddie's goofy little cheerleader, entirely dorky and unapologetically in love with him and supportive of every horrible thing he does. she's fun and sweet and he's mean and grumpy, the perfect match.
unlike me, connie is not afraid of getting hurt and does not have motion sickness, so she roller skates everywhere and is in a roller derby team with harley. she also skates everywhere in the sewers and in eddie's workshop which really irritates him, but she's faster at passing him his tools (or at least going to get him the right tool on the second or third try). her favourite skates are glittery with neon, glow in the dark wheels that have flashy lights in them.
eddie gives her a weekly stipend which she calls her pocket money, and he hates that.
she's a big strong fat girl, and eddie likes having her around because she's soft and squishy. she has a gap tooth, on the top row of her teeth, the same colour eyes as him, her natural hair colour is red, she has anxiety, ocd and autism, she's a chaotic bisexual slut, and she has a huge crush on poison ivy so she avoids her at all costs because anytime she's ever been near her she's been unable to focus or speak.

Alright, this was most likely cheating but Ashe had brought out Miraidon in 'surf mode' to traverse the water while Kianga had joined her on the back of a Mantine that had been swimming nearby. Both siblings decided to split up with Leon watching from the sidelines, enjoying some time with Bahamut.
That being said, Ashe found herself looking up and down and all around, but something caught her eye; a lone truck parked nearby. Carefully Miraidon swam closer before Ashe heaved herself off and onto the small port. Taking a look under said truck, it was a bit dark to see, but she had to wonder...
Meanwhile, Kianga on the back of the Mantine and Lavender clinging to his back on top of that found himself finding a small little beach that was just out here in the middle of nowhere. Nothing special about it it seemed, but he thanked the Mantine and asked him to wait before the two began digging about, searching for anything out of the ordinary...
Meanwhile, a Floragato, Joker, was sent out at mach speed by Leon once Ashe returned with a message and later would be sent with Kianga as well.
