To Come Home

It’s A night not unlike any other night, in his building tenure as leader of the village hidden in the leaves. Too late to be respectable for anyone other than someone in his position (and even then not truly respectable).

Naruto unlocks the door and turns the knob to enter into his home. He knows without having to sense it that his family is asleep. Still, he whispers a light ‘tadaima’, and forces himself to keep the yearning in his heart at bay. He toes off his sandals and looks to the staircase just beyond the genkan. He hesitates as he takes the few steps needed to stand at the foot of it. The thought of being a stranger in his own home crosses his mind for the splittest of seconds before he tamps it down with a fury.

He’s come leaps and bounds from where he was years ago after all. Has learned to prioritize. Come to the thick headed realization that his family, the family he built for himself, shouldn’t have to sacrifice or be sacrificed for a mantle he himself decided to take up. That they never should have felt like they weren’t first in his heart.

Look how happy Himawari was before the time skip, just having fun and enjoying her childhood

Then for the next 4 years of her life, she grew up as an orphan with her parents sealed away and her brother a fugitive 😭😭😭
