Bathtubs passing in the night by iain MacAdam Via Flickr: The iconic lodge peacock sign on the hill above Burton Drive. Randomly revisited these shots recently, I don't remember why. But we could use a break in the ocean and rocks over here I guess. Fuji X-E2 / 50mm Summicron-R v.1 (1968) (DSCF9369c)
Perhaps my fav car.

Looking for a Film Camera to Buy?
Film Cameras are making a phenomenal comeback across the world. In the Lower Rio Grande Valley, the trend has still not caught on. That is typical of trends, we in the Valley usually let the world be the alpha and beta testers of trends. No, just kidding. Our economic situation dictates when trends make their way down here. But, if you are a photographer, I would suggest looking at what the leading photographers in major metropolitan areas offering portraits, weddings, engagements and other such personal photography services are doing.
They are now incorporating film in their suite of offerings. Why? Because of the unique look of the film, its depth and dynamic range still remain unmatched by digital. Yes, there are presets and filters that you can apply in digital to get a retro or a film look but, a Client with a discriminating taste is likely to be drawn to a print produced through film photography over the clinical look of the digital, the sharper image. The film is not for everyone. Just like listening to vinyl is not for everyone. Just like grinding coffee beans every time you make coffee is not for everyone. Well, you get the point. Increase your revenue with a new stream from film photography. Make yourself stand out from your competition. Offering film photography shows prospective Clients that you are a sophisticated photographer. High school seniors love the look of the film. Don’t believe me? Shoot a couple of them with film and digital side by side and then show both sets to them and others and you will have your answer. Why do they love them? Because, they want to stand out. They want their unique identity or flair to stand out. The same goes for engagement and wedding photography. Or, a quinceanera.
For one, it is a hassle if you plan on developing it yourself. Printing from a negative is a bigger hassle. So, I recommend a hybrid approach. Shoot on film, get it developed and scanned. Once scanned, you can have the prints printed through your regular photograph printer. The results are exquisite using this hybrid approach because you are getting the best of both worlds - analog and digital.
I buy and sell old film cameras here, in McAllen. I clean them, replace light seals, and test them with a fresh roll of film. I develop and scan my films. Then, I list the cameras for sale. If a camera needs more extensive servicing, I send it out to the appropriate service facility. I warranty all my cameras designated as working with a 30-day warranty against any functional defects.
My list of available cameras is constantly evolving. With the prices of some film cameras exceeding new DSLRs, it has been keeping me busy. Here is a sample list of cameras that I recommend and carry as and when they become available in good condition:
