Untold Tales | Eye Of The Storm

cw: n/a ______ “You should stay back, Stormeye,” said the young warrior, ushering back the elder with a soft wave of his tail, “You could get hurt.” The warded cat’s muzzle, aged in flicks of silver, wrinkled in a vexed scowl, black lips pulling back to expose teeth. The overgrown fangs that protruded past his maw glinted even in the dimness of the moss-lined cave surrounding them. His lanky body, with its already ragged cinder-grey fur, bristled furthermore, and a once downtrodden tail now flexed sharply side-to-side.

“Hurt?” Echoed the old tom, the word like a venomous bite. With a scoff, he gestured with a toss of his head to the marred patch of skin laid across the right side of his face. Besides the wicked scar, a singular eye was lit with a luminous green fire. “Getting hurt never stopped me, boy. Do I look bedridden to you?”

The warrior seemed staggered by the confrontation, jaw taut and brows pursed. He began to protest, “But your leg-”

The elder stepped forward on nimble pale paws, seasoned muscles shifting beneath the bare skin that stretched over his defaced figure. The ugly tan scar ran across his back, leaving the fur in patches, and rounded over his right shoulder down to a single shortened nub.

“What about it?” He snapped with pinned ears. “I’ve never needed that thing. Or both my eyes.”

The warrior swallowed. “Y-you shouldn’t be fighting, Stormeye… As a warrior, it’s my duty to defend our people, and that includes my elders.” That seemed to inspire a bit of spirit in the younger feline, and he forced his following words out with the confidence of a cat his age. “You could get injured in the fray, and there’s no guarantee that I could save you in-”

“-Save me?” The old tom gave a listless chuckle, swaying his rumpled whiskers. He moved beside the young warrior where he stood in the mouth of the cavern, and his grey brow furrowed. “I don’t need saving. I’ve been saving since before you were born, boy, and even longer before. I’ve fought monsters you can’t imagine and flown through hellfire, and here I am, still kickin’.”

Stormeye straightened himself on his three limbs, giving a shake of what remained of his pelt, and sucked a breath of damp, mossy air into his lungs. Even through the mess of tangling underground caverns beyond, he could still hear the echo of war bounce off the walls. Above, it sounded like a distant storm, the earth rumbling with thundering paws in a whirlwind of teeth and claws.

It called to him like a Chieftain's war-cry.

“Now, if you’re done squabbling on,” said the old tom, “-It’s time we fight as warriors.” Pushing off his back legs, the warrior charged into the awaiting darkness, where the bellows of battle would guide him straight into the eye of the storm.

____ AN: An old OC from a dark warrior cats roleplay group I tried to start up years ago called "That What Lies Below" on DeviantArt. I never got to use him much, but I still love him to bits. CAN SOMEONE EXPLAIN WHY VENTI’S BURST ICON IS THE WAY IT IS

Out of all the 70+ characters in genshin, Venti’s burst is the *only* icon out of everything we’ve seen in the game where the icon does not line up whatsoever with the burst itself.

Venti’s skill and normal attack icon matches up just fine with what the attack actually does, meanwhile the burst icon looks somewhat like the old crosshair icon- said icon does not show up in the burst in any way shape or form.

Interestingly enough, a very minuscule version of the icon does show up in the Skyward Blade (and depending on your copium levels the emblem thing on the back of Venti’s cape, and the clock icon in the paimon menu).

This symbol clearly has significant meaning, but out of all the mysterious and lore-important characters, why is Venti the only one with a burst icon that diverges from what the burst actually does? Is it intentional for lore reasons, or did Hoyoverse accidentally screw something up at some point? (I’m pretty sure Venti is currently the only character with only two burst voicelines, though I may or may not have heard “rhythm take you” in a demo video or smth)

If you read the Elite Operator profiles, it seems like even if the IS exclusive elites have incredible battle experience (Sharp has 25 years of experience and no mention of being a child soldier, making him 40+), none of them were actually a part of Babel and only joined once it was Rhodes Island, a clear difference from the other elites like Ace and Scout who were part of Babel.

Even Stormeye, a Kazdelian Sarkaz who lived through the civil war, felt that both Theresis and Theresa's factions were indistinguishable, and instead set up his own group focused on protecting people caught in the crossfire. He was so skilled that even if he didn't wield the ultra powerful originium arts that Theresis' and Theresa's groups wielded, Babel had already taken notice of him. He later joins Rhodes Island when he negotiates a deal for a local Kazdel village, acting as their protector.

I think it's neat how their profiles flesh out the Kazdel civil war as well as Babel itself. As Babel, they were essentially royalists, siding with the current monarch and opposing the Kazdel military commission. You get info like Touch initially refusing to join them because Babel was seen as a political entity, only joining later when it was Rhodes Island and after they've declared their mission to be in medicine.

It kind of makes me wonder if Theresa /had/ to die to accomplish her mission of creating Rhodes Island. As long as she was alive and the recognized King of the Sarkaz, her landship would always be a political entity. But passing away AND passing the crown to an adopted child that isn't even a Sarkaz and therefore would not be recognized, that would make her dream come true.
