Nancy had found herself falling back into the old habit of writing in her journal. She sat cross-legged on the sofa in her hotel room. The events of the last couple of days were heavy on her heart. So much had happened, and she hoped this time it was finally over. The brunette was lost in her thoughts when she saw a shadow in the doorway. “Oh goodness, you scared me half to death.”

Kinda want to write a one-sided ronance post S4 au (within a fix it obvs) where the older teens start actually hanging out and Stobin (eventually + Vickie)confuse literally everyone. They greet each other with cheek kisses, call each other babe (or "Stevie Baby". Listen. Robin calls him bud or buddy or bub or bubba or babe and it's like why so many B's?? Argyle is vibing with it though and joins the bud train) and one time at two in the morning had a coordinated ramble about the names of the cats they will eventually get. (Sassafras, moonshine, and Garborator)
Nancy and Steve haven't really talked about anything, other than Steve saying "hey. I'm sorry if whatever I said weirded you out. I was definitely a bit delirious and Robin and Eddie AND Dustin were all making comments about winning you back or whatever which is stupid, you made it clear where you stood with me. Which wasn't with me. That's fine. and like. Okay yeah when we were together I'd daydream about you being beside me in the motorhome but thats-- it was a daydream. I was sort of thinking I was gonna die and. I wanted to share a little dream that made me happy. And then got everything confused in my head and made it weird and I'm sorry. what I'm trying to say is I'm sorry for being weird and making things uncomfortable. I'm over you. I loved you then, and you were my first real love, and maybe if things were different I could love you like that again but. But neither of us want that or the same things out of life. And we'd crash and burn again. Plus you and Jonathan are together which is a non-starter. Cannot believe I forgot that when it was happening. Jesus. So. Yeah. Sorry for being not a great friend and hitting on you in the Upside Down." And Nancy had nodded and told him not to worry about it. He had been sort of bleeding out and planning on going back into the upside down. They could both be normal about it.
Sometimes Nancy and Robin try to have "girl time" at Nancy's suggestion because they're the only girls in the older group (sometimes. But Robin is not going to let that slip out) but it's awkward without a buffer. Robin is too nervous and rambles and Nancy is too annoyed by it. But they do get on well in group settings, and Steve and Argyle are actually the keenest to smooth over any awkwardness.
Robin laughs more with the group, and grins at Steve and smirks at Eddie and has a sharp tongue Nancy can admire. She's more comfortable with Steve around, insisting he sit beside her or on the ground in front of her so she can play with his hair. (And Nancy is shocked the first time she sees it, because Steve was notoriously protective of his "best feature", but she'd asked and he'd hummed quietly as she takes her fingers through his hair and put tiny, lopsided braids in it.) It's nice to see Robin less jumpy, and wonders what it would take to see more of the side of her Nancy only sees when Steve's around. She just wants to get closer to Robin. Wants a friend.
And somehow, beyond Nancy's notice, Steve and Robin's friend Vickie slowly joins the group. She wasn't involved at all in the spring, but has been hanging around Family Video and a movie night or two often enough that when she settles more permanently in the group it isn't a very big surprise. Eddie and Argyle welcome her in with open arms, Jonathan is only his normal amount of weary of new people, and obviously Robin and Steve are excited for their friends to be friends.
But it just doesn't sit right with Nancy. She can't pinpoint why, it just doesn't. When she sees Robin and Vickie giggling together, or having some back and forth banter that seems to feed into both of them smiling, or Steve throwing his arm over her shoulder, or Vickie leaning into Robin's space as they talk. She always sits beside Robin, Steve on the other, with Eddie beside him. It's usually a tight fit for whatever couch they're on, but the four seem happy as clams to not have any personal space. Once Argyle decided to lay across all their laps, and they just...let him. Finangled themselves so everyone was mostly comfortable.
Nancy figures she is uncomfortable with it because she hasn't ever had a close friend since Barb, and was possibly hoping she could be close to Robin along those lines. So seeing her so close with the others and mildly uncomfortable around her hurt, and seeing her and Steve incorporate someone unversed in the Upside Down into their little trauma club also hurt. Because what did Vickie have that Nancy didn't? That made Steve and Robin and now Eddie stick to her like glue? That made them want her there when she didn't know anything about what they'd been through and could probably never understand?
What made Vickie Summers so special that she's taken what should have been Nancy's place beside her friends? Because that's what really bothered her. It wasn't that Vickie didn't know, it's that Nancy felt she took her place. That Nancy wanted to be where Vickie was, and she didn't know how to ask for it. Asking, trying to talk about how Steve and Robin had bonded so well after Starcourt while she ignored them and then how they bonded with and absorbed Eddie halfway into their bizarre dynamic after vecna, would feel too much like begging or admitting that she isn't quite sure how to make friends.
Nancy is jealous. Jealous that she isn't friends like Vickie and Eddie and Steve and Robin are. That she isn't the one making Robin smile and giggle so cutely. So. She tries harder. Tries to be the friend that Robin and Eddie and even Steve deserve. She tries not to be annoyed by Robin rambling (it really isn't that bad, just. Not relevant. She likes heading Robin's voice, but thinks she could really work on having a filter.), or the way Steve always asks clarifying questions when he should really have known better, or Eddie talking half in different character voices. She thinks it's getting better, her relationship with them. But, still, Vickie is always there, glued to Robin's side almost as much as Steve is, and that always annoys Nancy. Niggles at her brain, that she doesn't deserve to be there because she didn't know what Robin had lived through and fought. Nancy did.
Eventually, Nancy figures out that she wants more from Robin. Doesn't want to be a friend she smiles at occasionally, wants to be the reason she smiles all the time. And that's terrifying. Because Nancy had never considered liking girls, never thought liking girls was a thing she could do. It was something other women did, not Nancy. She liked boys and always had, but. But maybe she always liked girls...too. maybe it wasn't something she that was one or the other. Being different in a town like Hawkins puts a target on your back, being queer in a town like Hawkins even moreso.
She's leaving Hawkins in the fall. But she thinks she wants someone to come home to. She wants Robin to come home to. Robin and Steve seem to be okay with it, from what she can glean of some veiled comments they've made that she's only caught now she's looking for them. They've made some remarks around the kids that make it seem like they'd be safe to come to, no matter what. And sometimes, some of the comments Robin makes about actresses seem a little...well. admiring.
They probably, hopefully, wouldn't hate her for this. And now Nancy and Robin have a friendship, she thinks she can. It's early July, and Nancy is going to ask Robin out.
She gets her alone, bites her lip, and asks Robin in no uncertain terms to go out on a date with her. Robin stares, mouth agape.
"oh," she says.
Nancy smiles, a little. "Yeah. So. What do you say?"
Robin blinks, and takes a shuddering breath. "Oh my god. I. Nancy I'm really flattered but I'm no-i dont- uhg. I'm dating someone." she groans, rubbing her hands over her face.
And oh. Nancy read the situation wrong "oh. Steve. It's fine! You don't like girls, thats--thats totally fine! Id just, um. That is,-"
Robin waves her hands. "No, no! I'm not dating Steve! You clocked me correctly. Definitely gay! Don't worry about that! Hah."
Something in Nancy twists. "Oh?"
"yeah. Yep. Not only am I a lesbian in a small town, I'm a lesbian in a small town that somehow also has a girlfriend." Robin says the word dreamily. Like she still can't believe it. Nancy's brain fills with static. She was too late. Too caught up with how she missed so many chances in the past, that she missed her chance now.
But Robin keeps talking. "And, like. Even if I didn't, I don't think it would have worked between us anyways. Too different, y'know?"
"what?"
Robin gestures with her hands between them. "Well, like. I like being your friend. But, I mean, I wouldn't date you?"
"why not?"
Blinking, Robin tilts her head. "Because of Steve?"
Something bubbles hot in Nancy. "What the fuck does Steve have to do with wether or not we would date?"
"Nancy. Steve's my best friend." As though that explains anything.
"yes? And?"
Robin looks uncomfortable, shifting sideways. "listen, Nancy. You're a good friend. And I've just rejected you. Maybe we should just. Ah. Leave this? I'm really sorry. I'll give you some space, just find me when you're ready?"
"no. What do you mean that we couldn't date because Steve is your best friend? Why would that have any effect on how you date?"
"it doesn't! Not really! Just. Nancy, you broke his heart. His soft, squishy heart! You kinda sorta cheated on him-details very unclear-and then just. Moved on. Pretended like nothing happened. I couldn't do that to Steve. Dating a friend's ex is a bad move. Dating an ex that broke a friend's heart is just cruel." She sighs. Looks sad. As though she isn't the one rejecting Nancy and tearing her apart for how a relationship ended almost two years ago. What did that matter, now? "You're my friend, Nancy. I like you! But even if Steve has moved on, forgiven and forgotten, and if things were a bit different given his full support for us dating if that's what I wanted, I think I'll always remember how he-- how much it hurt him."
"oh"
"I'm. Nancy I'm really sorry. I know how scary it is to put yourself out there, especially like this. It's not fair. I'm just sorry. But. It was true. Steve's the most important person to me. I couldn't ever hurt him. Not like that. Not even if he said he was fine with it."
Nancy stands and walks away. She doesn't cry until she locks her bedroom door.

How about “I am not letting you walk out this house” “don’t cry sweetheart” and a “you’re safe with me/us okay?” With the yandere fruity four x angelface 😳🙏 I absolutely adore your writing btw 💘
ty!!!! 🥺🥺
ellie's sentence starter prompts
xxxix - "Don't cry, sweetheart."
xlv - "I am not letting you walk out this house!"
xlvii - "You're safe with me, okay?"
You know by the footsteps that it's Steve running after you, hurrying down the stairs of his house to catch up with you at the door. And while you're sure the others will be close behind as soon as they wake up, you keep tightening the laces of your sneakers regardless and haul yourself up off the bench in the foyer. If you don't leave now, you know you never will--and yet, the second you grab the front door's handle to turn it, a hand comes down hard on it right by your head before you can even open it. Steve's slid so fast down the hall he's almost crushed you against it, and thankfully not, because he's so big you probably would've busted a rib--he's just so strong when he's uncontrolled.
"I am not letting you walk out this house," He breathes, panting from the sprint, and brings his hand down just to turn you around by your shoulder and push you back against the door. It lays heavy in the middle of your chest, keeping you pinned where he wants you to be, while the other raises and settles on the other side of your head so he can lean in close. His brown eyes are stormy, hair wild and unkempt from sleep, and Steve is quite clearly more upset than he usually ever allows himself to seem. Above your head, you hear the pattering of more feet.
"You'll die if I don't. You'll all die." You want to keep the tears back, to be strong for him, but it's not working at all. It's even harder when you hear the voices upstairs and the steps coming closer. "The dreams keep coming. Something bad is happening to me, Steve, I...I don't want it to spill over. I don't want to hurt you."
He shakes his head, hair flicking out in every direction. "You're not gonna hurt us."
"I might not have a choice," Your words choke out, each one feeling like it might strangle you as you try in vain to swallow that growing lump in your throat. You're only aware of the tears spilling down your cheeks when Steve catches one, focused less on keeping you from stepping outside and more on thumbing those dreaded things off your face, and he's about to whisper something when a collective smattering of thudding noises breaks your attention away and turns both your heads towards the staircase, where Robin swings around the banister and stops when she sees both of you.
"Baby," She breathes, eyes wide and clear for you, and doesn't even have to make Steve step back because he does it on his own--he moves enough for her to rush past him and grab you, pulling you off the door and into a big, tight squeeze of a hug. As much as you wish it would last forever, she moves off you with haste, and clasps her hands against your cheeks to cup them with a shakiness to her breath. "Don't cry, sweetheart. We're here."
"We" is right. Nancy is only a few steps on the staircase behind, and Eddie close on her heels, the two of them equally as mussed from sleep but just as bright-eyed and focused as the other two. They hurry down the last step and crowd around Robin on either side, looking over her shoulders with outstretched hands to touch your arms, your hair, to assess you like they were worried you'd be hurt in the measly few minutes you've spent out of their reach. A shared look between you and Steve when they question what's going on is all they need to understand, and Nancy looks to you with fear in her eyes that you expected--but it's not from the place you thought it might be.
"You had another nightmare, didn't you? Worse than last time?" You nod, and though it's the truth, it drives a stake into your heart to see hers breaking in her eyes, because she worries more than most about your health and hates to see that familiar sadness etched into your features. Eddie looks over at her, at you, at Steve in that silence in between, and only he seems to break the tension that threatens to spill more tears from your eyes. He drops to his knees, and grabs you by the ankle for you to brace yourself against both Robin and Steve.
"You don't need these, then." He's so quick to unlace your sneakers it's almost uncanny, fingers working feverishly to undo what you had done in a hurry and hold your heel quite tenderly in one hand to slip off your shoe with the other. "Cause you're not going off on your own."
Once he's got both of them off, he makes a point of tossing them all the way into the living room just off to your right, your sneakers tumbling to a stop with one in the middle of the carpet and one rolling underneath the coffee table. You can just feel Steve holding his tongue, but some things are more important than his parent's carpet getting a little dirty.
"You're safe with us, okay? You'll always be safe with us." It feels like only then can you take a deep breath, you can dry the tears from your eyes with your sleeve, and allow yourself to collapse into a hug and a kiss on your temple. While you're certain all four of them would love to go right back to bed, none of them do--they usher you into the kitchen and light some candles to keep it dim, Nancy and Eddie find some milk and a pot to mix a batch of hot chocolate, Robin gets some paper and pencils, and Steve sits right by your side as he coaxes you into drawing out what you saw in your dream. Words aren't enough, and they're too painful for what you saw, but the four of them are so patient. None of them utter a word when you get focused, and when you need a break they take turns soothing you and taking you to the couch for a cuddle or putting on a song to calm you down. Whatever it is, they're there. And they prove to you that they were right--you are safe with them, no matter what haunts you in the deepest, darkest corners of your mind.

“I’m serious!” Nancy couldn’t help laugh, even she knew how ridiculous it sounded. Since high school, she’d gained a reputation for being high-strung and high-maintenance, but she wasn’t always that way. “You’re looking at the former Lady Nael of Hightower.”
She spoke the words with an air of dignity, and a bowing gesture to pair. She hadn’t spoken of her Dungeons & Dragons character in ages, but she still held the memories of those sessions close to her heart. It had begun when Mike was learning to play, devouring the PHB he’d gotten for Christmas with such ferocity he nearly tore the pages out. The two Wheeler children had sat on the floor of the basement with character sheets spread on the floor, their father’s stubby golf pencils in hand, and building their own little world to play in.
She’d chosen the name Nael after Mike informed her that Nancy wasn’t a very Elven name. So, she’d taken the first two letters of her first two names-- Nancy Elizabeth-- and thus Lady Nael, the High Elf Ranger was born.
“And, believe it or not, I even dressed the part. Mikey and I sat at the dining room table and cut out elf ears and a little bow and arrow out of carboard and fishing wire. It was fun.” Her smile turns sad for a moment. Times were easier then and childlike imagination and creativity were still encouraged. Nowadays, the same type of passions were labelled cultic or weird, at best. “But then it got less cool to hang out with your snotty younger brother, so I stopped showing up to sessions. And I’m sure Mike and his friends didn’t want his annoying older sister around anyway. But I’m glad he has you guys now.”

Tbh I'm pretty neutral on stancy I think it might be kinda cute because I love a wife stan and a fierce woman lbr BUT in canon I don't really like it because they need so much more time to talk and work out what went wrong (and acknowledging that it did) that I don't think it would actually work. But the real problem is there isn't enough fanfics that really dig deep into those issues that held them back and broke them up within a canon context that makes me get behind it. So much of the meat and juice of their break up is swept away or ignored when! That's part of what makes their dynamic and their characters interesting! That messiness between them partially defines them! And it isn't really addressed in a satisfying way I've found. (And won't be in canon tbh. Not enough time and the Duffers won't recognize the actual issues in it) Does that make sense?

Another Stranger Things Thing.

"Oh what fresh hell is this?"
Eve muttered to herself as she caught a glimpse of what looked like somebody wielding a makeshift weapon on school grounds after school. Eve had gotten stuck with detention after intentionally skipping last period to nap behind the gym bleachers. She had been trying to make up for the lack of sleep she had been having since moving to town. The entire place was just a rabbit hole of the heebie-jeebies and nothing felt normal. Now she was stuck at school waiting for her mom to get off work and come get her. "Um...HEY!" She called out, some sense of moral duty or whatever to make sure they weren't gonna hurt someone. Or themselves. It had only taken two weeks before she heard all the terrible rumors of what ran around Hawkins.
While she wasn't scared of the folk lore and boogey man stories that spread around, she did like to think that she had some common sense. And yet, while ,most people would have just kept their mouths shut, and ignored the situation. Eve couldn't tell if it was bravery or stupidity that caused her to alert the person across the parking lot. "What the heck are you doing?" She called after them, stepping off the front steps and cautiously trying to get a better look at who they could be. "If you don't drop the weapon...I'll...I'll call the cops!" She tried to threaten, not very intimidating her opinion but better than nothing.
"I'm serious! I know all the twisted shit going on in town! You're not doing anyone any favors carrying that around!" Eve added, her arm jutting out at what they were carrying. "What are you even doing around here? Schools been out for hours." She added with a tone that as just judging their plan from the start. "Is this some kind of weird vigilante roleplay you got going on?"

Nancy was already running late to work since her mom had asked her to drop Mike off at school first. She would’ve been on time had he not taken his time getting ready. She was taking the back way to work instead since it was faster, mostly just because she could speed. She had the radio playing in the background in an attempt to distract her from her racing thoughts. The brunette had taken her eyes off the road for a split second to check the time, letting out a curse to herself the second she saw it. She let out another string of curses when she looked back at the road. Nancy quickly hit her breaks, the front of her car mere inches from hitting her friend. Without even thinking twice about why Caspian was covered in blood and nude in the middle of the road she shut the car off and jumped out, racing to the brunette man's side. “Oh my god, Cas, are you okay? What the hell happened to you?”

“Hey, Maximillian.” Nancy teased as she rolled down her window, slowing the station wagon to a stop. The skatepark was nearly barren at this time of day, but Nancy assumed it was better that way. Putting the vehicle into park, she slid out of the driver’s seat and looked up at the sun, half of it peeking over the trees. “You ready to hit the road?”
