Another year, another Gravity Falls lyric comic, because I am always in my feelings about it!! I could froth at the mouth for ages about Stan and Ford being more similar than they might think - self-isolating, determined, desperate - but instead I drew this.

This is another one I had cooking in the back of my head for, probably, years, because my brain makes so many connections between TMBG songs and GF. I hope you like it!!

STANUARY 2024- Sacrifice

Maybe not your classic sacrifice example for Stan but a sacrifice all the same ;)

Nice perspective practice too, altho Ford looks a bit 2D/flat at the bottom there 🤣

Poor Ford got knocked out mid-monster fight and his gun and glasses went flying when the monster’s tentacle smacked him in the head. Stan is horrified but leaps into action to stand between his brother and the monster. He sees Ford stir and hopes he can hold it off long enough for his brother to wake and flee into the cabin of the ship. He refuses to risk losing him again by leaving him defenceless on the deck to try to get to the cabin (or wheel) himself.

Turns out, these old men are great for drawing inspo! I’ve knocked more than 3 of these drawings out in 48 hours!

I like the idea that Ford has seizures after a Weirdmageddon.

The idea is cruel, but quite real, I doubt that everyone came out healthy and unharmed after Bill's abuse.

‘through suffering look to the stars’

The translation changes a bit depending on where you look but it mostly stays the same. When you are struggling to believe you can achieve something great, look to the stars.

I think about the implications of it being in one of the first pages of Journal 3 alot. Ford writing down a phrase that means You can do great things. And if you're ever in any doubt, gaze up.

I wonder if Stanley, struggling with the portals machinery and calculations, believing he wasn't smart enough to bring his family back. Wondering whether Ford was even alive, whether he'd even be able to get the portal to work, looked up and stared at a gateway to the stars. And got back to work.
