On this day, 26 August 1972, Falkirk FC was due to play against Montrose in a Scottish League Cup football match, but Falkirk players had gone on strike and stated they would refuse to play unless a financial penalty imposed by their manager was rescinded. Players, led by later Manchester United manager Alex Ferguson (pictured), walked out during a prior training session, after manager Willie Cunningham withdrew food and travel expense payments from players to penalised them for losing a match, 6-1, against St Johnstone. Ferguson had previously been a union shop steward and taken part in wildcat strikes while working in the Glasgow shipyards. Following the walkout, the club owners sided with players against the manager, rescinded the penalty and ultimately the incident led to Cunningham leaving his post as manager. Bursa transfer Premier League Januari 2024 sudah ditutup. Ada banyak klub Liga Inggris yang mengumumkan transaksi pemain pada musim dingin ini.

Kompetisi Premier League 2023/2024 sudah berlangsung cukup seru. Pada bursa transfer awal tahun ini, klub-klub memanfaatkannya untuk meningkatkan kekuatan skuadnya.

BOOK REVIEW: 1977/78, A Historic Season For Rangers FC And A Treble That Ended An Era by David Herd (2023)

For top writer, David Herd, blue is the colour and of the Scottish variety in a land where, for many decades, there’s been little variety in winners of Premier league and Cups thanks to the stranglehold of Glasgow rivals, Celtic and Rangers.

In this new football book on PITCH released 1 May, 2023, Herd focuses on 1977/78 to review in fine detail, month-by-month, match-by-match; 1977/78 was a historic Treble-winning season for the ‘Gers with such (playing) greats in their ranks as Derek Johnstone, Davie Cooper, Derek Parlane, and - captain - John Greig (John is pictured in the book, including with singing-superstar, Rod Stewart); Greig also wrote a bi-weekly ‘Tartan Talk’ column for Shoot! magazine around this time.

So, we kick-off under Ranger’s manager, Jock Wallace, 13 August, 1977, Aberdeen v Rangers with Billy McNeil installed just across the road as the new Celtic manager, and round-off 28 April, 1978, with a home game at Ibrox versus Motherwell.

1977/78 rounds off the 224 pages with a Full results service, player statistics (appearances / goals).

An excellent read and matchless research & writing from David Herd. The supportive Foreword’s by Alex MacDonald (ex-manager, Hearts & Airdrieonians: ex-player, St. Johnstone, Rangers & Hearts).

SPFL fixtures 2022-23: Champions Celtic start against Aberdeen, Rangers visit Livingston

Celtic will start their Scottish Premiership title defence at home to Aberdeen on Sunday, 31 July, with Livingston v Rangers launching the season the previous day at 12:00 BST.

Promoted Kilmarnock return to the top flight by hosting Dundee United, with Lee Johnson's league debut as Hibernian manager a trip to face St Johnstone.

Hibs entertain Edinburgh rivals Hearts on the second weekend of the season.

The first Old Firm derby is on 3 September with Rangers at Celtic Park.

The Premiership has a five-week break for the World Cup after the 16th round of matches on 12 November and resumes on 17 December - the day before the final in Qatar. The lower leagues continue during the shutdown.

Queen's Park - back in the second tier for the first time since 1983 - begin away to Inverness Caledonian Thistle, while relegated Dundee face visitors Partick Thistle.

In League 1, newcomers Kelty Hearts welcome fellow promotion winners, the rebranded Edinburgh FC, and Dunfermline Athletic begin their bid to bounce back from relegation at home to Alloa Athletic.

Pyramid play-off winners Bonnyrigg Rose make their SPFL debut with a League 2 home match against Forfar Athletic.
