Yulaan and Chale Jr Little Miss Savage is more than a bit similar to the Loud House now that I really embrace the fact that I all but stole Lucy's design for Yulaan (though I swear I just like mekakure girls in general). In fact, the more I learn about The Loud House, the more I almost want to reboot that whole concept. The show seems like it was horribly mangled and mismanaged in execution. As of 27 January 2023, Chale has five sisters: Valentina, Ramona, Esmeralda, Freyja, and Sigrun. But he used to have more. I'm on the edge of giving him more sisters as a result. So long as I can easily identify the differences between them, as the sisters Chale has are already pretty definable. Actually, I say that, but I was already committed to giving him at least one more, just so he'd have three older sisters with Hispanic names and three younger sisters with Icelandic names. I suppose the debate I'm having now is if I want him to have six, eight, or ten sisters. Six feels like it's coming up short, but ten feels too on the nose. Plus there's the fact that Little Miss Savage isn't actually supposed to be my take on the Loud House; it's Yulaan's story, not Chale's. Chale is the fun side-story more than anything. Decisions, decisions!

Yulaan the Barbarian, by Trollfeetwalker
Inspired heavily by Frank Frazetta and Boris Vallejo
Sol Yulaan on Planet Kollidor, doing what Yabans do best— getting thrill from fighting. In this case, she's slaying some bloodlusted Kegarin goblins. It's a savage fight by a savage bolloi against savage goblins. Yulaan's home continent of Subotai is a primeval hellhole, perfect for a species so savage as Yabans. The style is meant to evoke pulp fantasy art. Especially those old testosterone driven blood and thunder fantasy stories. Considering how macho Yulaan is, it fits too well.

Drawn by Societyliver69 and Salvamakoto Sol Yulaan fights Wushenshashou (无神杀手, lit. "Godless Killing Hand") in a bloody, brutal martial arts showdown. Classic macho shirtless fistfight, only notable because one fighter is female. It's also one of those cases of warriors doing what warriors do best. The whole world can burn; all that matters is the thrill of combat.  All that matters is the thrill of the ultimate fight.
Yulaan, driven by Yaban nexcidium and vroda ideals of Chaos and Honor, seeks a worthy battle against the demon-qi empowered Wushenshashou, who is a cold and powerful martial artist whose sole reasons for being is to hone his fighting skills by battling and kill strong foes as well as to fine-tune his "killing hand" to become a perfect assassin.
The battle is extremely brutal, with Godless shattering Yulaan’s skull while Yulaan rips off Godless’s arm and punches his jaw out of place. It’s a no-holds-barred brawl!

Sol Yulaan meets her human doppelganger in Royal Woods, Michigan
And later, Sol Yulaan and Sol Yuta encounter... similarities
So I don’t watch the Loud House much, if at all anymore. Its style of humor is just a bit too juvenile and spastic for my tastes and I’ve largely moved onto kung fu & wuxia movies and old ‘70s grindhouse shlock. But I still do enjoy myself a cartoon goth like Lucy, and Lincoln’s okay.
Again, wasn't intentional at all, but I thought about it and realized the surface similarities between Lincoln & Lucy vs Yulaan & Yuta. Brother and sister; one has pale skin and raven black hair that covers her eyes; the other is a boy with white hair.
Heck, there's even some inverse going on here. Lincoln wears orange; Yuta wears blue (the inverse of orange). Lucy's a human who wants to be a vampire; Yulaan is a Yaban, which is kind of like a vampire. I mean, they do drink blood and have fangs. Though they also have monkey tails and superhuman strength.
In the context of this image, I imagine it being that Yulaan's in Michigan with Vicente looking for the Michigan Dogman and investigating the Lake Michigan Triangle when she happens upon Royal Woods and sees a human girl suspiciously similar to herself. Of course the similarities are only visual, though it's not like Yulaan wouldn't get along with Lucy. What's the difference between goths and barbarians anyway? One loves the dead; the other loves making things dead. See? They're perfect for each other. Actually, canonically, Yulaan does get along with some goth girls in Little Miss Savage: the sisters Jex and Mir, and Mir's friend Renae. Not to mention that her Yaban best-bud Ura Kevelnege adopts a gothic style on Earth. And for a brief time, Yulaan herself becomes a gothic Nadsat droogie during the events of “Goth Devotchka.” So actually, it makes more sense than you think.
If I were a bigger fan of the Loud House/were 15 years younger, maybe I'd do something more interesting with this.
I wonder how Lucy would feel seeing someone who looks so much like herself, except is some buff, Saiyan-like primal monkey with electric hair and battle-scars everywhere. Let me guess: "Sigh."
Also canonically Yulaan does have a human doppelganger— one Zhang Chenxing from Jiangxi, China. But this is just a spot of fun.

Photorealistic Yulaan, aged 10.
10-year-old Sol Yulaan, a Saiyanthropus ferus (aka Yaban or Demonoid) barbarian from eastern Subotai on Planet Kollidor Though she starts out as a barbarian and fights as a primal warrior in her young life, she eventually begins shifting into a proper martial artist and Spartan-like personality. Coincidentally this shift starts around age 10. By pure chance, this made her sudden change to living on Earth that much less difficult for everyone involved. As has been mentioned, Yaban society exists at every point on the "Warlike Spectrum," from organized honor-coded militarism not unlike the aforementioned Spartans, Mandalorians, Klingons, all the way to animalistic nexcidium not unlike zombies or certain kinds of lower demons (hence their colloquial name 'Demonoid'). Unlike Spartans, Mandalorians, and Klingons alike, Yabans are cursed with nexcidiousness (i.e. an impulsive lust for battle and destruction), making pacifism and diplomatic existence impossible for their species, so they'll always lean towards the more ruinous ends of warlike existence as a whole, but individuals run the gamut. Some, like Ral Enekai and Sol Yuta (some of the most docile Yabans to ever live) are martial artists who only fight for sport. Yulaan, especially at this young age, is a more brutish kind of fighter. She becomes less brutish with age, but it's a slow evolution that starts with military training at age 7. She was born a Chaotic Yaban, but shifts into that of a Docile Yaban. Docile Yabans range from the "only fight for sport" types that could overlap with the great Son Goku to the regimented Spartanoid militarists with which Yulaan finds kinship. To put it another way, Liquid Snake would see "Docile Yabans" as the peak type of person— warriors not so brutish that they are literal animals, but who have discarded softness for a life of war filled with chaos and honor. Chaotic Yabans would seem similar to Chaos Warriors in the 40kverse. Driven to ultraviolence and war by higher guidance and a system of death worship, they are every warrior society thrust to the limit. Some also live not unlike Orks— they live just fight things and smash the other monkeys into pulp. They don't need gods or society to tell them to fight. It's Feral Yabans you need to really fear. You use Ferals not unlike a grenade or atom bomb, something which destroys everything in its path without thought or self reflection. This is Yulaan's people and explains why she is the way she is.

Art by Valeria Bossa The three Yaban sexes, represented by Basra Reika (gamale), Ral Gungarus (male), and Sol Yulaan (female) respectively.  Males are called Nagois (lit. "Warrior/Crusher Person") Females are called Bollois (lit. "Industrial/Heavy Labor Person") Gamales are called Yenois (lit. "Breeder/Mother Person") * "-oi" is the gendered term for person in the Yeren language.  "-jin" is a more generic term. For example, most bollois are also warriors and plenty of nagois are laborers. Nagois and bollois are of very roughly equivalent strength, being around 30x stronger than the average human male on average.  Yenois are roughly about 2x to 4x the strength of an average human male.  Yabans are extremely dense, with the average nagoi weighing over one ton and the average bolloi ranging between 1,800 and 2,200 pounds. Yulaan, who is 5'3" as an adult (unusually short for a bolloi), weighs 1,825 pounds secular. This weight amplifies their raw power. However, thanks to their ability to manipulate qi, they can adjust their weight to persist in more fragile environments.  Technically Yabans need only males and females to procreate, but their insanely low sex drive and insanely high ultraviolence makes this a poor gambit to survive. The Yaban god Getavara anticipated this and created yenois as a way to keep the species numbers high without sacrificing their raw warrior aggression or increasing their capacity for sexuality.  Yenois are hermaphroditic and can reproduce quasi-asexually. Even if the other Yabans were sexier, bollois are unlike women in a critical way— they have estrous cycles, not menstrual ones, meaning on top of their general sexlessness, they also literally are not capable of becoming pregnant for very long stretches of time. Yeren legend tells that once upon a time, bollois were actually female yenois, but one named Khorijin snuck into war and was crippled to the point of total sensory loss, trapped in a body detached from the outside world. But rather than accept her place, Khorijin simply willed herself back to a battle ready state via qigong awakening, attaching her broken body to armor and going out into battle to be slain properly.  Getavara was so amazed at the fanatical iron will of this female warrior that He uplifted all the female yenois into a new class called bollois, tripling their natural strength. In their place, He created yenois as dedicated breeders, vastly weaker than nagois and bollois if still laden with a Yaban warrior spirit.  It's debatable as to whether this is even remotely true, but it reflects the gendered realities of Yaban life.

Yulaan's bloody fight against Generalissimo Konrad, where the fascist brawler is taken aback by the bolloi's unnatural strength. He's met— and tamed— plenty of female fighters, but never a bolloi. Then again, Yabans rarely visit Earth, allowing them to be spoken of as myths and phantoms. The honor of fighting a Yaban vastly overrides the humiliation of fighting a chick, but he never expected this. Their reputation as demonic warriors of perfect combat prowess does not do them justice.
The brutal martial artist bout has left them both bruised, bloody, and obsessed with finishing their fight.
Dongfang Bubai watches this fight, stunned and impressed by Yulaan's raw power. The mighty eunuch isn't threatened, but seeing a girl so ferocious conjures ideas... Perhaps through the right intrigue, Yulaan's path will cross with Wushenshashou and Yüce Bey Serhan...

Goth Devotchka
Enjoy some krov-plus, droogie During Little Miss Savage, Yulaan befriends some goths and alternative types. Through Gideon Crowley, she also discovers the murky, hazy world of 60s and 70s arthouse and grindhouse film. Yabans aren't satisfied by human storytelling. Yabans are a people who prefer and understand dynamic action and reaction as a constant, rather than rise-and-fall narrative, so human-made movies are frustrating to follow. Still, she does come to like plenty of them, and one in particular is A Clockwork Orange. When she decides to go out trolling the night with a couple of goth malcontents, Yulaan uses the opportunity to go out as a black-nadsat droogie. This is the basis of the short story, "Goth Devotchka," that takes place during the second season of LMS, It Came From Skinwalker Lodge. The only reason Yulaan drops the style is because she starts angsting about the fact that she could never actually be like Alex DeLarge. It's impossible for Yulaan or any Yaban to be a "clockwork orange" as it were. They'd be more like clockwork grenades. There's no point making a grenade out of clockwork gears because it's going to blow up anyway. Likewise, Yabans are specifically designed to be violent. Nexcidiousness is impulsive violence, after all. Think about it. Just think for a moment. Alex DeLarge is a man. A boy, really, but "man" is more important. A wayward boy was he who took to a life of criminality in a degenerated society. He could have been so different. He could have been nicer, or at the very least not an asocial psychopath. What's more, as a Man, he had the opportunity to choose against doing violent deeds. Anthony Burgess's point in the novella was that Man is an animal with free will. We're sculpted by our past, but we're not slaves to it. Doing good and doing evil should be your choice. As evil as Alex DeLarge was, it was still his choice to do evil. When the government stepped in to regulate his choice for him, he was no longer a Man but a Clockwork Orange, someone who seemed sweet and proper on the surface but was mechanical and soulless on the inside. He chose to do evil and certainly wasn't the good guy, but the State was the greater evil. This is why he was so extreme and callous and why A Clockwork Orange cannot be faithfully remade for modern times— Alex being as evil as you can get was entirely the point, and that final controversial chapter of the book completed the fable that free will was our greatest trait. Alex wasn't reformed, and he wasn't any less of a narcissistic psychopath, but he had decided to stop doing evil— he was cured of the State's control and acted upon his own free will, and that's what was important. He was an apple. A rotten apple. But no longer a clockwork orange. Yulaan literally cannot relate. Yabans don't have that choice. Even her cute little brother Yuta is damned to a life of violence by his genes, making the humans' fawning over him tragic. It's a similar dilemma J. R. R. Tolkien had with orcs, except in real life (in the Yabanverse at least). Tolkien's faith informed him that anyone sapient can be Saved, but orcs seemed to go against this completely as they were inherently evil and corrupted. Did they not have a choice? If Alex was a Tolkien orc rather than a Man, the book wouldn't have worked. Now of course, fantasy has expanded the role of orcs ever since. Some orcs are just as naturally evil as Tolkien's, while others are just misunderstood. Indeed, Vinter-kobolds of Planet Sarrat are basically orcs and they're definitely of the 'misunderstood savages' lot. Yabans are the "naturally evil" orcs. Nexcidium controls them to do evil. Even "good" Yabans are driven to fight and risk. If Alex was a Yaban, the book would have worked even less. Indeed, it would have had a much more horrifying end. If the totalitarian state tried to brainwash Yaban!Alex into becoming a clockwork orange, they'd have actually pulled the pin on their new clockwork grenade. Nexcidium will overpower you. A nexcidious crisis takes a few months to build up. Yabans who do not fight or destroy (whether in reality or virtually) will suffer a nexcidious crisis at some point, making a pacifistic lifestyle utterly impossible for them. And if the crisis comes without being rectified, it'll transform into a nexcidious breakdown, turning that Yaban into a feral no matter their sapience level beforehand. And when that happens... well, there's a reason they call Feral Yabans "explosions with tails." Explosions just destroy. Explosions kill and maim. They don't think or reason. They're simply destructive forces. Yaban!Alex would have suffered a nexcidious crisis and breakdown that would overpower the Ludovico Technique and everyone would pay for trying to tame a monster. This is why Yulaan finds it pointless to roleplay as a droog. She's just playing dress-up with the cool part and missing the whole point of the story. It feels inauthentic to her to dress like a nadsat brat when she doesn't have a choice in the matter. She has to engage in the old ultraviolence because it literally comes naturally to her. The only thing that's her choice is choosing how much she gives into the violence lust of nexcidium. "But you can still not be a bitch and just enjoy the cosplay," so says Gideon, who gets a cane smashing his balls as a response.
