I'm going to have to write an entire mash fic in German just so I can include a scene of Charles offering the informal pronoun to Hawkeye
#mash#For those of you that don't speak German#German has informal and formal pronouns like thou/you back in early modern English#Since they're not introduced as friends in s6 they use formal pronouns with each other#Unwritten rules say that the person with the higher social status has to offer the switch to informal pronouns#'May I offer you the thou'#Or 'we may use thou'#And if your conversation partner is older or more experienced or in any other way above you in the social hierarchy#They have to offer it#It would be rude otherwise#This is an intricate social ritual and it would be great to see play out on mash
