she wears a variety of colors, but prefers pastels. her favorite color is blue and that's obvious in her wardrobe. she will typically be married in blue, depending on the groom. blue represents freedom.

she will stick to dresses and skirts, no matter what era we're in. she doesn't like pants. she will steal various articles of clothing from her partners, but will not make it obvious.

in historical eras, she will stick to the fashionable and practical boot no matter what social class she is apart of. she only owns one pair of silk slippers which don't see much action as they were reserved for dances or balls. even post-canon, johanna doesn't attend very many of these.

she gets cold often so she tends to wear a cardigan or sweater. she doesn't like coats since they make her feel claustrophobic and some designs cling to the body too much for her own comfort. layers make her feel safer. in the winter, she will wear several layers of sweaters to keep warm. she does own a single coat which is usually tucked in the back of a closet. the most she'll allow is for a coat to be gently thrown over her shoulders. that more resembles a shawl.

a string of pearls gifted to her by anthony. that's the most jewelry she'll wear.

OBJECTS:

a cross necklace. this was her mother's, but johanna will never know it was from her. lucy had left it at the ball and without any use for it, turpin had it given to johanna when she was a child. the cross is to remind her of her virtue and that god's eyes are always on her. for johanna, this necklace reminds her of her faith and it gives her slight hope at times. the necklace is taken from her while in fogg's. she never gets it back.

when johanna was younger, she used to anxiously mess with her hair and chew on it to the point where huge knots would form and her nanny got cross with her. after she learned how to do her own hair, she began taking better care of it. however, the hair habits she formed dissolved into something else. when she's stressed, she'll tug on her curls to the point where sometimes her scalp begins bleeding. this has been a habit for so long that she no longer feels any pain there and has to check herself if she's bleeding. she doesn't realize when she's pulling too hard. usually, someone else will need to point it out for her.

while she works on just about anything, she hums or sings to herself. this can be hardly more than a mumble or passionately singing along to the b.eatles. johanna gets into whatever she's singing. she loses herself in it to the point of tears. but generally, she hums whatever song pops into her head. it started out as "singing for her larks" and has become singing for herself.

usually her hands rest at her waist or at her chin if her arms aren't just hanging. the point is to not direct any attention to her chest or her stomach. johanna hardly ever wants sexual attention ( unless it is from her husband ) and she considers her stomach to be a problem area. she will occasionally cross her arms over her chest when angry, but she'll quickly redirect her body language.

when distressed, she often bites her lip to the point of it bleeding. again, she won't notice until she tastes blood or someone points it out.

when happy, johanna will cover her mouth with one or both hands to hide her smile or laughter. she was raised in a "children are seen, not heard" type of household so she tries not to sound her emotions out. she will also bounce on her toes and grab at loved ones.

AESTHETICS:

caged birds: are they singing? are they screaming? wings flapping against the ivory bars. blindly flying around the small space. a song stuck in their throat, but all that comes out is a sob.

the ocean: it's impossible to trap an entire ocean. it is impossible to keep the waves from rolling. you cup water between your hands, yet some of it always manages to slip in between your fingers. the ocean is free and blue and beautiful.

pearls: a symbol of the path to perfection. a symbol of the sea. how pearl necklaces symbolize all of your tears meaning you'll shed no tears in your marriage and be happy. symbols of purity, innocence and loyalty. the only white johanna chooses to wear on her person and for good reason.

books: the gateway to escape. the front over is a portal to another world and all of your problems are left in this one. more knowledge and excitement than she ever thought she would know. a quick trip to spain or peru or the coast of france.

embroidery: birds flying between the clouds. a girl much like herself also stitching away. a bubble bee buzzing over a garden wall. anything that she can sketch out and sew into fabric. on handkerchiefs, on her husband's starched white shirts, on the edges of skirts, on stockings or socks, everywhere she can get her hands on.

tumbling yellow curls: thrown over her shoulder. swept to the side in bed. collected on the top of her head. braided down her back. yellow like wheat that waves with the wind. yellow as if the sun was spun onto her head.

once again complaining that everytime i take the time to properly style my hair it looks like shit but when i dont care and throw it into my silk scarf still wet with no products or anything not even a scrunchie to tie it up it looks AMAZING in the morning

reviewing the v3′s kids anniversary outfits

i know i’m late to the party shhhh

rantaro: lavender accents are an interesting choice for rantaro but the fedora tip....no.

kokichi: i know this is a controversial take in the kokichi fandom but i’m not overly fond of this one...it looks Fine but greasy casino owner is not a vibe i fuck w/.

kiibo: the fact that he has FORMAL ARMOR is hilarious - who do you think built that for him, miu or the professor??? also i must agree with my mutual quinn in that he definitely has the coat and scarf just so he can give them away. everyone knows that’s why but he thinks he’s being very subtle.

gonta: ABSOLUTELY BLESSED. ponytail gonta is a massive W and i think the suit looks genuinely really nice. his bowtie...!

shuichi: another controversial take but i love this one. is it hideous? yes! is it in character? also yes! he did NOT get it fitted and it’s too loose in the waist and too tight in the shoulders. he shuffles out onto the dance floor smelling like mothballs. everyone who sees him is immediately compelled to kiss him on the lips. sir i am captivated by your complete lack of drip.

korekiyo: this one is so good it’s my hc redesign for him. minus the fedora and ponytail of course but nobody’s perfect.

ryoma: WHAT THE FUCK IS THAT HAT

kaito: a really nice looking design and a win for all detective kaito talentswap fans 😌. similar to kiibo in that he wore that extra coat just to drape on someone.

kaede: very cute...a little tacky but in a fun prom way!! the bun looks nice and that chibi art of her sharing champagne with shuichi lives in my head rent free.

miu: PERFECTION. i absolutely ADORE mermaid dresses so this one was always gonna be a hit, but it’s just!! so good!!! the scrunchy...the big sunglasses...she is Living Her Best Life. hot partygirl energy is unmatched.

tsumugi: !!!!! ok i don’t know what those silk elbow-scarf things Are (i thought they were chinese bc i always see them on chinese gods but dr is japanese so maybe they’re just a general east asian thing?? idk) bu they are *gorgeous*. the elegance!! the flow!!! and what a nice springtime color scheme too. say what you will about tsumugi’s neverending torment of her ocs but good god does she have style.

tenko: similar to shuichi’s in that it’s hideous but we support that. they got so close to putting her in an actual suit!! maybe in another ten years kodaka will finally allow one of his female characters to wear pants. also never forget her giving himiko a rose in the chibi art that shit cute as hell.

kirumi: ohhh lovely. it seems like they played up her being a politician? it turned out great, i especially love the cape and boots. and she’s not wearing gloves!! that feels significant to me for some reason.

maki: very nice color scheme and the flower hairpiece is especially lovely. idk why but it feels like she’s matching with tsumugi. diversity win: the two most murderous women you know are on a date <3

himiko: so CUUUTE. the sheer tulle skirt over the lower skirt looks really nice, and i love the star pattern. can’t forget the waist bow also i love a good waist bow. the magicial girl aesthetic is great, but i do wish they’d made her hat bigger? it’s too big to be a clip-on but too small to be an actual hat and it just looks a bit silly to me.

angie: what kind of party city aladdin nonsense...THIS is what it takes for one of the girls to wear pants??? i’ll just wait another ten years thanks >:(

i’m doing the swimsuits next!! as soon as i can find a clear picture of them...

I’m always on the lookout for a great printed scarf and this one from Loewe will go with nearly everything! It would make a perfect gift that anyone (or you) would love! If it’s a little out of your price range, this one from Banana Republic is so cute and well priced!

I’ve ordered this necklace because I think it’s an amazing value and one I’ll wear absolutely every day! This one from Nordstrom is gorgeous as well!

Okay…I know…this is expensive and it’s not even the one I want! These bags from Bottega Veneta are so beautiful and the leather is like butter (this is my dream bag) This black one from Kurt Geiger is a reasonable alternative!

I own way too many coffee table books! There is nothing better than a chilly fall afternoon by a warm fire with a beautiful book to dream over! My recent trip to Paris was just long enough to make me want to go back and this book is a beautiful reminder of how much I love this beautiful city!

When my daughter Rebecca first moved to Boston she had a job at Aesop. Before that, I had never heard of the brand but quickly became a fan! These are beautifully scented products - packaged in an elegant minimalistic way! They make amazing gifts for anyone on your list! Aesop products range from skincare to candles to essential oils! If you haven’t tried Aesop…I highly recommend!

I found Hotel Lobby candles on Instagram and loved the aesthetic so much that I quickly ordered the Paris Nuit to try! It is a beautiful fresh scent and when it’s lit, I can picture myself in the lobby of the Four Seasons in Paris!

I’ve purchased many candles from hotels because the lobby smelled so good…the Thompson Hotel in Nashville has a delicious candle and my latest hotel lobby candle purchase was at the Grand Bohemian in Birmingham! What an amazing idea to create a company around this idea!
